Prisma, did you know kirby was white before being pink?
Interesting cause in Japan he was always pink haha. Someone in America forgot to give the boy his colors
#ask#not art#spyrojm#tbh i dont think prisma would know that in america they colored him white rather than pink on the DL1 boxart#iirc nintendo of america thought people wouldnt play since pink was too girly or childish and the video game market was mostly boys and men#i dont remember exactly but i think that was the reason#also why they tried to make him look extra hardcore and tough in some commercials#pink and cute just doesnt sell as well in america as it does in japan

(18Trip Translation) Tao Kinouchi SSR: Best Wishes Snap - Level +1
proofread by jellyfish_apple, azurecrystalz and niri
While the story uses the male protagonist's name (Kaede), the differences in the script depending on the protagonist you play as have been noted down
Part 1
Location: HAMA House Living Room
Everyone at HAMA Tours: Happy birthday~!!
[Pop, pop!]
Tao: Thank you so much. You really went out of your way for me today…
Tao: Like, everything’s amazing. The living room is decorated so beautifully, and the food looks so fancy and tasty.
Chihiro: Hehe ♪ We’ve got all of your faves here, TaoTao~! Meat, fish, naan curry… ♪
Chihiro: But celery’s banned from HAMA House for today, sorries~
Raito: The information you put in your profile book was a great help. By the way, the curry is authentic and ordered from an Indian restaurant the Kitakata family has close ties to.
Nagi: We tried baking the naan ourselves. The Night Team will take responsibility and eat the uneven ones, so please enjoy the pretty ones.
Nayuki: Good grief, to think they were even discussing getting a tandoor installed for this.
Liguang: In the end, we simply asked Kamina how to make it in a frying pan.
Kaede: We’ve got seconds, so eat to your heart’s content!
Tao: Okay, thanks. The smell alone is enough to make my stomach rumble…
Chihiro: The cake absolutely meeeelts in your mouth! Props to our in house Chef Ushipoyo!
Chihiro: It’s a cube cake tower made of TaoTao’s fav game consoles and video game boxarts♪
Kinari: The cake has been recreated to look like the original “Surpass The Original! A Chronicle Cake For Veteran Gamers”, with icing used throughout.
Tao: Amazing… There’s so much attention to detail. Even the buttons from the very first Enstation are exactly the same.
Liguang: Doing such thorough research is a good trait of Kurama’s
Kuguri: So, where would you like to start? I will feed you whatever you want.

Nagi: My gift is the complete collection of Elephantastic Memorial discs. The volume 1 debut performance footage includes a bonus scene that’s a must-see for all fans. But, um…
Nagi: I hadn’t considered the possibility that you might already have this. If you’d like, you could maybe keep it to show it to your friends, or you could use it for emergency funds in case of financial trouble.
Tao: I don’t own a single one, so this makes me really happy. Let’s watch them together at some point.

Akira Toriyama's work is the very reason I started drawing. As a child I watched and loved Dragonball Z. It was the show me and my friends would all obsess over! One day I saw Chrono from Chrono Trigger on some boxart while walking by a local mom n' pop video game store. I recognized the style right away and that moment is what drove me to design my very first OC, a red haired Chrono rip off with a giant sword.
Toriyama's work was a huge influence for me growing up, and knowing he's gone has affected me more than any other celebrity death I've ever heard about. His impact on Latin American communities both among diaspora in the US and in their countries cannot be overstated. I remeber visiting the Dominican Republic as a child and everyone would rush to watch Dragonball when it was on. No one even called it by it's title, instead choosing to excitedly point out that Goku was on TV. When you spoke with your friends about DBZ there, you would be asked if you watched Goku last night.
I don't really know where I'm going with this, except that I really appreciated the man's work. He really was the GOAT.

Famously, the video game Clock Tower for the SNES takes a lot of direct inspiration from the Italian horror movie Phenomena, down to modeling the game's heroine, Jennifer, on the movie's heroine of the same name.
But, and I wish I'd remembered this earlier, the developers have said that another key influence was 1977's House. I remember reading about that years ago, but didn't quite remember it concretely enough to wanna say it.
Thankfully I started discussing House with another fan, and they reminded me, so I know I didn't just make it up!
Point is, if you've ever wondered why Clock Tower's boxart doesn't remotely match anything in the game:

now my experiences might not be universal but as far as im concerned you asked far fewer questions about video games when you were a kid. the first time you encountered waluigi in mario tennis or mario party or whatever other mario spinoff you encountered him in for the first time because they only put him in spinoffs you didnt say "who's this goofster stomping around like he's a member of the crew?" you said oh ok that's waluigi i guess.
super smash bros melee the crossover fighting game starring all your favorite nintendo characters (well pikachu was second party but thats pikachu everyone knows who pikachu is) had a whole three characters who nobody in north america knew who the fuck they were, two of which were from games that weren't localized at all and one of which was from a game that was enough of a commercial failure in the united states hardly anyone remembered it a little under a decade later. now to be fair ness was in the one on the n64 also but its not like he'd gotten another game. "oh earthbound's failure was overexaggerated" you say that but my brother lived the super nintendo era and not a single one of his gaggle of friends had even heard of earthbound it was not on anyone's radar come on. but no one said "hey these aren't iconic nintendo characters" we all went "well i guess they can be here too" and now we say "you cant main a smash character if you havent played their game" like we werent saying "thats marth i dont know who the fuck he is but hes like a brother to me" in 2001
youd just go into the store and look at a game's boxart and decide you wanted that one and yknow what it usually worked out for you. i did this longer than you'd expect too i was in 7th or 8th grade and thought to myself "yknow i havent really played any console rpgs lately" so i looked up "rpgs for the wii" and i saw a gamefaqs rec thread or some shit where a guy went "well xenoblade is coming out." and i looked up xenoblade and found virtually no information about it other than that it was coming out and thought to myself "yeah xenoblade... that looks like an rpg i could get into." and you know what i did? i preordered it this may very well have been the first game i ever preordered i thought "well they were talking about it on gamefaqs so it must be a big deal i wanna make sure i can play it day 1" but i didnt need to reserve a copy of fucking xenoblade chronicles the store probably could have given me every copy in stock for no profit loss when i walked in there with my gir t shirt and my little receipt because i was one of all three and a half people in north america who played this game counting the gamefaqs guy. and xenoblade chronicles knocked me flat on my ass it was one of the best games i'd ever experienced i'd played plenty of story heavy rpgs before but this one hooked me in a way none of them ever had.
fast forward around 4 years the 4th smash game comes out but this one was different. this was when we really started to go in on the crossover fighters, character slots were now real estate that potential entrants had to earn the right to occupy as if one game ago they didnt make a failed NES peripheral a playable fighter and give it an emotional subplot in subspace emissary. no longer was it "cool i guess this guy is here" it had become "who the hell is this and what do they think they're doing in smash bros?"
and thus came that fateful night when amidst crazy new character reveals like the fucking wii fit trainer they unveil a cinematic trailer and announce that shulk from xenoblade chronicles was joining the fight. to which the unilateral reaction was "who the fuck is shulk why was this trailer framed like we already have a rapport with shulk i dont know this man why does he say stuff like 'im really feeling it?'"
but i knew who shulk was.

Considering this game will be 20 years old next year, I thought I would take the time to talk about "Animaniacs: The Great Edgar Hunt".
I first heard about this game back in either 2008 or 2009 when I was perusing through Gamefly. I found this game in the GameCube category, and I had no idea this even existed. Years later, sometime in the 2010s after establishing my "Animaniacs" OCs, I was curious about how to plan my characters into the game itself, even though a full walkthrough of the game was never surfaced on YouTube until user, chimanruler15 uploaded one at the end of August 2015. But how I'd plan to put my OCs into "Animaniacs: The Great Edgar Hunt" will be another topic for another day.
Getting back to my image, I had noticed this game doesn't have any form of advertisement. But if there was ever a TV commercial for it, what do you think it should look like?
Feel free to comment your own suggestions for commercials Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Warthog Games, and Ignition Entertainment should've done at the time. It can be a commercial that uses live action footage before cutting over to the gameplay footage (A common video game commercial technique), a commercial that uses the characters' hand drawn animations combined with the live action footage (ex. The "Animaniacs" Sega Genesis and SNES commercial), a commercial that uses original animated footage with in-game CG models and assets, combined with the actual gameplay footage (ex. The "Bugs Bunny Lost in Time" commercials featuring Daffy Duck in CG, mixed with footage of Bugs Bunny in 2D animation,). Or just about whatever style you prefer.
For my own concept, I would think it should use silent clips from the cartoon such as the intro, combined with footage of the gameplay. And maybe have the commercial end with the boxart for the GameCube release (considering that's the only way to play it in North America) be in front of the Water Tower from the game's ending cutscene. At the same time, boxart for the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS title, "Animaniacs: Lights, Camera, Action!" can also be shown after the trailer announcer's "Rated E for Everyone" for the GameCube title. As for the music playing in the background, maybe it could be the main theme you normally hear whenever you're in the Warner Bros. Studios (which acts as your central hub) and also in the game's "Press Start" screen.

Todays rip: 15/07/2023
*** EVERYTHING IS FINE ***
Season 7 Featured on: SGFR Presents: Shovelware from Beyond the Deep!
Ripped by MtH, Moder112
youtube
Seven years removed from it, there's an undeniable magic to the first Season of SiIvaGunner. Setting nostalgia aside, I think the best way to describe Season 1 in particular would be...chaotic? It was a time before the channel had much of any quality standard, where any little idea could be tried just for the hell of it, and where a lot of rippers pursued individual passion projects disconnected from the main direction of the channel. I've covered one of those on this blog already - Collision Chaos Good Future JP [CD Beta Mix] - but today, we're taking a look at the legacy of a certain Barbie game's music on the channel.
Late in Season 1, during the channel's normal procedures, a peculiar figure named Mr Rental began showing up in rips of his own made-up game. Dissecting that entire storyline isn't really relevant for where we're going today: All that needs to be established is that the Mr. Rental rips were effectively ms-paint cartoon episodes about the titular character's absurd and often violent tendencies. In one episode in particular, Mr. Rental declared a mission statement to "ban all mashups", and thus began to show up suddenly in otherwise innocuous rips. What this translated to in-universe was Mr Rental being a full-on serial killer.
youtube
Which transitions us to the Season 1 rip, Intro Title / Minigame Theme - Barbie Horse Adventures: Blue Ribbon Race, a rip with barely any music, and no album release. In truth, its not really trying to be a rip, once again playing to the chaotic nature of the Season I described before. The Barbie game in question is infamous for its title screen music being strangely eerie for the type of game its in, which this rip runs with - it plays the music to unsettlingly uneven camera footage of a CRT with the game's boxart, which slowly distorts Barbie's face before smash-cutting to a US Emergency Alert screen. In the midst of the channel's normal upload schedule, viewers got to see full-on analogue horror, as the majority of the video uses the Emergency Alert to inform viewers of a serial killer running loose in the SiIvaGunner universe - Mr Rental. As the rip ends, the words "EVERYTHING IS FINE" ominously flash before some ARG clues flash.
The storyline would eventually end, and this rip in particular never quite amounted to much in the end beyond scaring the shit out of unsuspecting fans. Yet those fans - like myself - were never able to forget it. It would appear that the team didn't forget, either: In both Season 3 and Season 4 Episode 1, the original rip would be referenced with remixes of the actual song, and now finally in Season 7 we have todays rip. As part of SiIvaGunner Fusion Records, *** EVERYTHING IS FINE *** is an extremely high-level, genuine quality arrangement of the original song, finally leaning headfirst into the full on horror sound of it with utmost sincerity. Several more layers are added to the track as it goes on to give it a sense of escalation, and at parts it feels as if its transitioning into a fully new piece with the lead melody. The original track's short nature was used as a baseline to craft something even darker, even moodier...and best of all, its able to play on that Season 1 nostalgia to heighten those emotions althemore.
For as much content is put out on SiIvaGunner over the years, it never feels like any piece of it is forgotten. A rip like Intro Title / Minigame Theme - Barbie Horse Adventures: Blue Ribbon Race, despite its original storyarc having ended and sitting below 50K views, keeps getting these loving nudges, reminding us of just how long its been.
