Queen Adelaide’s Fringe Necklace
Tumblr media
In 1831, King William IV, uncle of Queen Victoria, commissioned Rundell and Bridge to make a necklace for his wife, Queen Adelaide.
At 46cm in length, the necklace was made up of of 133 sections, consisting a total of 1,456 stones, which had been taken out of redundant pieces of jewellery owned by King George III and Queen Charlotte.
Upon the death of her husband, Adelaide gave the necklace to the new monarch, Queen Victoria.
On 15th November 1837, Victoria wore the necklace, which she had created into a tiara, to one of her first visits to the theatre as Queen.
Tumblr media
In the 1858 inventory of jewels, the necklace was recorded to be considered a heirloom of the Crown.
Tumblr media
Elizabeth, the Queen Mother had the fringe remade into a necklace, adding a "concealed snap". Although her husband died in 1952, Elizabeth was allowed to keep the necklaces along with other pieces of jewellery. However, after her death in 2002, they were returned to the crown.
Unfortunately Queen Elizabeth Il never wore the necklace publicly.

Prix de Thornolie: 25 May 1850, 15:30
Madame Adelaide: Douairière, I did not expect to see you!
Tumblr media
Douairière Comtesse de Deauville: Madame, what a pleasure! Might I introduce you to mon fils, le Comte de Deauville. I don't believe either of you have had the pieasure.
Comte de Deauville: Not properly at least...Bonne journée.
Tumblr media
Madame Adelaide: Oh....bonne journée, Monsieur.
Douairière Comtesse de Deauville: And of course you know le Marquis de Beauvais and Mademoiselle Fleury.
Tumblr media
Marquis de Beauvaus/Mademoiselle Fleury: Madame.
Madame Adelaide: I do hope you all are enjoying the races. The weather certainly showed up to offer us all a lovely afternoon.
Tumblr media
Douairière Comtesse de Deauville: En effet. I always look forward to this time of year. Never fails to remind me of my dear Gustave. The races were always his favourite activity. Something he and mon fils have in common.
Comte de Deauville: Mère, I am sure la Madame has no desire to be bombarded by your reminiscence.
Tumblr media
Madame Adelaide: Au contraire, Monsieur. Perhaps it may surprise you what information I wish to be bombarded with.
Comte de Deauville: That is certainly surprising.
Madame Adelaide: And what makes you say this?
Comte de Deauville: I simply never imagined la Madame Royale had any care for the lives of all those beneath her.
Tumblr media
Douairière Comtesse de Deauville: Arthur!
Madame Adelaide: What a curious observation. It seems you are not as observant as you claim to be.
Comte de Deauville: I beg your pardon?
Tumblr media
Madame Adelaide: Oh, have I offended you? If you were as observant as you suggest, you would know I spend a great deal of my time with women in need of companionship. If you were as observant, you would be aware I call upon votre mère at least once every week to offer her said companionship, so she might have someone to talk with. Especially when her only child would rather spend all his time away from home and neglecting his family-
Tumblr media
Marquis de Beauvais: Pardonnez-moi, Madame, but I'm afraid ma sœur and I must take our leave.
Madame Adelaide: Of course.
Tumblr media
Comte de Deauville: We shall join you. Mère, we are leaving. [Leaves]
Tumblr media
Douairière Comtesse de Deauville: Oh, I do apologise, Madame. Coming to the races is always a difficult journey for him. Reminds him too much of son père.
Madame Adelaide: Consider it forgotten. Perhaps now he will consider his actions and spend more time at home with you.
Tumblr media
Douairière Comtesse de Deauville: You are a kind soul. As much as I hope you are right, I'm not sure it'll make any difference. Though I cannot deny it gets lonely in that big old house when he's not around.
Madame Adelaide: You'll have to excuse me, Douairière. I know my family are preparing to leave and they'll be wondering where I am.
Douairière Comtesse de Deauville: Of course. And please, Madame, try not to judge mon fils too harshly. Underneath that callous exterior is a heart of pure gold. He simply hates for others to see it. [Curtseys and Leaves]
Tumblr media
Mademoiselle Maybelline: How curious...
Madame Adelaide: If you have something to say, just say it.
Tumblr media
Mademoiselle Maybelline: I couldn't help but notice the way le Comte de Deauville looked at you before he stormed off.
Madame Adelaide: Quoi?
Mademoiselle Maybelline: I could have sworn I spotted a smile-
Tumblr media
Madame Adelaide: Don't be absurd. Are you sure he was not simply looking at you?
Mademoiselle Maybelline: Perhaps...but would it be so terrible if he did?

I keep thinking about how uncreative the Aussie states and territories are named. Like
There is already a place called Wales so we can't name it that. Well it’s a new land and it’s south let’s call it: New South Wales
We should name something after the Queen so let’s call this part : Victoria
I think we need more named after the Queen so let’s call this part: Queensland
This part is north and it’s a territory so let’s call this part the: Northern Territory
This part is south so let’s call it: South Australia
This part is in the west so let’s call it: Western Australia
Tasmania was just named after its European discoverer (you're not on the mainland so)
And finally let’s name the Capital of Australia: Australian Capital Territory

The Sun in summer 2022:
The Cambridges' new pad Adelaide Cottage needs no extra taxpayer-funded security or costly refurb. It's understood the family will have no live-in staff, with any aides commuting to Windsor instead. And sources say they dream of a "modest" home with a garden so the children can play outside together. One insider told The Sun: “They were adamant they didn’t want anything too showy or anything that needed renovating or extra security so as not to be a burden on the taxpayer." The property was modernised back in 2015.
The Daily Mail in June 2022:
Prince William and Kate Middleton will move their family into a four-bedroomed home on the Windsor estate this summer. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are reportedly set to uproot their family from Kensington, west London, to Adelaide Cottage in Berkshire in order to be closer to the Queen. Re-erected in 1831, the Cambridge’s new Grade II-listed retreat is just a short walk from St George’s Chapel and Windsor Castle, and sits proudly on the 655-acre royal estate in Berkshire.
Victoria Ward for The Telegraph on 14 August 2022:
But in the coming two or three weeks, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will do the opposite, swapping their grand Kensington Palace home for a relatively modest four-bedroomed cottage on the Windsor estate, a move that will see them navigate life without a live-in nanny for their first time in their children’s lives. [...] Although Ms Borrallo will be kept on full time, she will live elsewhere, as will the handful of other support staff that have long “lived-in” with the family at Kensington Palace, thought to include a housekeeper and a chef.
The Sun on 03 September 2022:
“They had to have moved in this weekend, because the children have to start at their new school next week. “The renovation is no-frills, by royal standards — and is certainly in stark contrast to the £2.4million work Harry and Meghan had done on Frogmore Cottage. It will have been a builder’s finish.” Kate and William spent around a year searching for a home in Windsor so the children could go to school together. They settled on Adelaide Cottage, as first revealed by The Sun, because they believed it needed no major renovations. They decided to go with existing furniture and fittings but had a fresh coat of paint to make it feel like home for the children.
LESS THAN TWO YEARS LATER...
The Mirror on 15 April 2024:
Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly hatching surprise plans to transform a secret home into something of a sanctuary as part of the Princess's recovery process. The Royal couple is said to be contemplating renovations and extensions to a little-known redbrick annexe adjacent to their Adelaide Cottage residence in Windsor. The family, who relocated to the Berkshire estate towards the end of summer 2022, currently divide their time between the four-bedroom cottage and their cherished Anmer Hall retreat on the Sandringham Estate. While Adelaide Cottage offers an ideal location due to its closeness to Lambrook School where Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis attend, insiders suggest the family are considering plans to expand a currently vacant annexe to assist in the princess' recuperation. However, this decision is not without its challenges, as sources indicate that the Prince of Wales is "conscious of public scrutiny" regarding Royal expenditure and is taking a cautious approach to personally funding the costs. "They [William and Kate] absolutely adore Adelaide Cottage, but it just about fits the entire family, whereas Anmer Hall is much larger with extensive grounds," the source revealed to OK!. "Adelaide Cottage is being used as a term time property while the children are at school nearby and Anmer Hall is for long weekends and holidays." Insiders have spilled the beans on plans to revamp a run-down redbrick annexe at Adelaide Cottage, aiming to turn it into a perfect retreat for the Wales family and their aides. While the project is on pause as the Princess of Wales focuses on her recovery, the plans are reportedly simmering away in the background, ready to spring into action when the time is ripe. "Nobody knows that there is quite a spacious red-brick annexe building that's not being used next door to Adelaide Cottage," an insider said. "It's currently inhabitable and needs extensive renovation works if it were to be used. Discussions have been ongoing for a while about using the property as part of the overall cottage grounds, but it's just about finding the right time to kick the project off." The need for space is more than a luxury; sources say it's vital for Kate's path to wellness, providing her with a serene environment to manage her treatment's demands. Anmer Hall is the top pick at the moment, thanks to its generous size and seclusion. Mindful of past backlash over public funding, the Wales clan is considering footing the bill for the Adelaide Cottage annexe's refurbishments themselves. "William is very conscious of the public scrutiny over the Royal Family's spending habits, so he is looking at the best way to cover any renovation costs," a source revealed. "It's a project that's very much been put on the back burner for now due to the family's unfortunate position, but it will be looked at again when the time is right." Adelaide Cottage, tucked away in the Crown Estate's private 655-acre Royal park, was originally constructed in 1831 as a sanctuary for the wife of King William IV, Queen Adelaide. The cottage underwent significant refurbishments in 2015 and boasts some seriously opulent decor. It's said that the master bedroom's ceiling is adorned with gilded dolphins and rope ornamentation, according to various reports.
Well, well, well...
Adelaide Cottage "just about fits the entire family."
"Just about" but not quite, apparently.
Is four bedrooms no longer enough? It was perfectly fine two years ago when they selected it as it "needed no major renovations."
But Kate needs this annex renovation completed for her "path to wellness"? I've never heard of a person undergoing "preventative chemotherapy" needing extensive renovations to their personal real estate to improve their health, particularly when they already have above average living space.
There is a time limit to "preventative chemotherapy." She shouldn't need to be doing "preventative chemotherapy" forever. If she's just doing "preventative chemotherapy," then she should be able to recover within a few weeks after she completes "preventative chemotherapy." (Unless she's really not doing "preventative chemotherapy" to begin with...)
But, hey, if she needs more "space" at home for non-"luxury" reasons, then The Mirror is supporting my previous statement that Kate "is going to be more reclusive for the next year or two."

Arden & Eleanor Hart, Day 85, Part 1
Tumblr media
Time for some red hands to sort those fun bars out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arden and Eleanor have a different way of dealing with fun bars!
Tumblr media
Arden: Yeah, I think you can handle being picked up and carried around by multiple kids multiple times a day.
Tumblr media
Tori: How is it? How is it? It's my very first try and I think I followed all the structions properly.
Eleanor: It's lovely, sweetheart.
Tumblr media
Tori: That's not what your face says.
Eleanor: It's just a little dry. Did you have the oven up too high?
Tori: Oh, maybe. I'll check and turn it down a little when I made Daddy his!
Everyone except Eleanor had several different wants about getting a pet, so Arden went out and adopted a cat, who the kids named Austin.

It really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things but something I always found ??? about the Queen Charlotte Bridgerton series is the refusal to engage with why Charlotte and George's daughters were so late to marry and, yeah, it was partially Charlotte needing her daughters as emotional crutches when George completely lost his mind but also George's sisters and aunts were beaten abused and humiliated by their husbands and yes that really did colour his engagement in discussions for potential matches.
His aunt Mary was frequently beaten in Hesse, his sister Caroline Matilda's story in Denmark was so bad she was dead by 23 and his great aunt Sophia Dorothea in Prussia once watched her daughter nearly be murdered by her father during one of his rages to the point where it was the servants dragging him off her, not to mention her repeatedly trying and failing to protect her son from his father too. These were well known and publicised moments, these were not secrets. People knew.
So like... British princesses did not do well on the continent and George knew that was was extremely cautious about where he would be sending his daughters. This is the guy after-all who was known for being rather out of step for how much he enjoyed being a father.
I know Bridgerton is dumb fluff but it's still really teeth grinding in its erasure of George's caution when it came to safeguarding his daughters before he became incapable of making arrangements. And that in itself led to them being taken advantage by older men in their households because they were the only men the girls knew. They never stood a chance.
That's more interesting and heartbreaking than the girls meekly saying they wanted to stay with their mum to be her personal punching bags. Charlotte did need her daughters, and they resented her for it and turned to less than stellar men offering them a way out. Not the other way around. George loved the girls and had seen his own family be abused and beaten. His over-protectiveness led to them being taken advantage of.
Idk. This is just a ramble, but giving the daughter's this selfless motivation to stick by their mother when they had well and truly been failed by their parents (never intentionally!!) I guess makes for a less complicated tv story.
