Famous since the day he was born, Regulus has often felt the weight of the Black family legacy firmly on his shoulders. The youngest child of ORION BLACK [father] and WALBURGA BLACK [mother], Regulus was their golden son. The one who was seen and not heard. Who did as he was told and felt comfort in the routine that this expectation offered him. Whilst most children kick against authority in some way, Regulus found the act of disobeying one's parents to be an unnecessary one and regularly struggled to find any form of common ground with his elder brother SIRIUS BLACK [sibling] because of this. Curiously, Sirius had always been more interested in the world outside their own. It was a peculiar prospect to him that someone from such a high station as theirs would give a fraction of a thought to how muggles listened to music or what they learned at school. To Regulus, much like his family, muggles were a necessary nuisance, like the bitter cold in winter or the heavy rain just after a storm; something to take note of and not worth considering much thereafter. 

He would like to say that looking back through his life, that his earlier years at home were peaceful ones, and in many ways perhaps they were. At 12 Grimmauld Place, Regulus developed his love for reading and his love for various loose leaf teas and learned how easy it was to drown out the shouting matches between his mother and brother, from the window seat at the back corner of his father’s study. Hogwarts offered Regulus some true peace, the Slytherin dormitories were a happy place for him, chatting about school work by the fire with his cousin ANDROMEDA BLACK [cousin] and taking tea in their favourite green velvet chairs with his other cousin NARCISSA BLACK [cousin] as she mooned over the prospect of finding her perfect husband. Regulus proved popular amongst his fellow Slytherins, due to the notorious nature of his house, his connections and his skill as Seeker for their house team. His closest friends were from his own year, VICTOR YAXLEY [best friend/potential love interest] was his best friend and a fellow younger son from a notable family, they became close with their doormates AMIR GIBBON [best friend] and WYATT JUGSON [best friend] who rounded off their group of four.

Victor had always been his favourite. His intellectual equal and sparring partner, he knew what it was like to be related to a long and complicated family with elder siblings that were often hard to love. He was the first person that Regulus had ever loved outside of his family, though beyond a kind word and the softness of an occasional touch he had never acted on it out of fear of losing his best and oldest friend. The life of a teenager is complicated enough, figuring out oneself and one’s way in the world; though Regulus would argue in the pages of his diary that he had it harder than most. When he was fifteen his brother was officially ostracised from their family, leaving Regulus as the only son and their legacy. With Sirius finally out of the house, he felt the walls cave in. Their home was no longer theirs, it became a meeting spot for his father’s friends who whispered long into the evening with his eldest cousin BELLATRIX BLACK [cousin]. Open doors were now closed and from his bedroom on the first floor he could hear his name occasionally mentioned in raised voices by his cousin and the importance of his role in the coming months.

By sixteen Regulus had been given the tattoo on his arm that Bellatrix called “an honour”. The first at Hogwarts to receive such a gift, it was his task to spread the word of THE DARK LORD [leader] to his peers in whispers and recruit those who would strengthen his following. Regulus didn’t know much about The Dark Lord; other than his politics and that he had the backing of the figureheads of the most prominent families in society. The Dark Lord believed that those of pure heritage should be raised above the rest, and as someone who saw himself in government one day Regulus readily embraced him and was eager to carry out his message if meant keeping the good word of his family and securing a prominent seat at the table. Recruitment was easy, the sons and daughters of the noble families. His own friends and notable Twenty-Eight alumni PERSEPHONE WILKES [close friend] was a welcomed additions, which made his father and cousin incredibly pleased. Upon leaving school, Regulus secured a position as a researcher for his cousin Andromeda and her boss RODOLPHUS LESTRANGE [boss] working at The Department of Defence for The Ministry of Magic. 

His role was important for two reasons, his own personal interests in law and power- and Bellatrix had expressed great desire to know what was going on from inside the office and the allegiance of her sister and Rodolphus. It was The Dark Lord’s wish that all respected members of The Sacred Twenty-Eight pledge their loyalty to him and those with important standing in government or society were important to procure. In the beginning the work was easy, until Regulus began to have more knowledge on the cases than the people he was working with. The death of the Minister’s son, BOOKER BAGNOLD [person of interest] was the turning point in Regulus’ career, in the dark until the moment Bellatrix had been arrested for his murder, his death began a game of playing dumb to Andromeda and Rodolphus letting them know what information The Death Eaters wanted them to know and when it was best to reveal it. Years of hard work sabotage enough behind the scenes and helping them win cases as and when it was appropriate soon earned Regulus the title of associate barrister to Andromeda. Regulus was climbing the ranks at work and had established himself as a loyal servant to The Dark Lord. 

His family loved and respected them and besides Andromeda they had no secrets, which would all be soon rectified in time. In society he was a popular eligible bachelor, with only his mother standing in the way of him being snapped up by an eligible witch or wizard.  Although focused on his career, Regulus believed that he deserved the very best and ADRASTEIA GREENGRASS [acquaintance/potential love interest] had beauty and grace that rivalled even that of a veela. Regulus often finds himself enjoying polite conversation with her at functions, but not knowing where the political allegiances lie of herself and her brother ARISTAEUS GREENGRASS [acquaintance] he is careful to pursue her until he knows more. The biggest thorn in Regulus’ side however is neither his job nor the marriage market. Recently, Regulus has noticed his estranged brother watching him, after years of silence on both their parts. Curious by his sudden keenness, Regulus has been keeping an eye on Sirius whilst digging into his background, without mentioning it to his family. With whispers in the alleys that a rival group is forming to challenge The Dark Lord, Regulus has his suspicions that someone as stupid as Sirius would be likely to put themselves in danger and join a ridiculous organisation that might get him killed and their name disgraced.

Lenora’s Love: A Tom Riddle Fanfiction

Chapter 5: Firestarter

In which our Lenora scares the living shit out of a flock of deatheaters and makes our Tommy Riddle very jelly.

It was a larger turnout than expected. Mulciber Sr and Mr. Malfoy both shot each other a look of accomplishment as Eldritch Diggory made his way through the crowd with a line of followers.

"Minister" Mr. Malfoy shook his hand, "what an honor".

    Men of all pure blood houses arrived to compete, the word had been spread. Nora sat on a chair in the lawn, watching them all pour in like ants.

"This is ridiculous" she snorted, "why is it only men?"

Abraxas sat in a chair next to her, "fairer sex".

She laughed and kicked his chair.

"Nora" his tone shifted to a serious one, "please just stay out of the way".

She glared at Malfoy who was standing to join Tom and their group standing near the minister.

"We all know you can duel" he began to walk away, "you have nothing to prove".

Abraxas stood next Tom who was speaking with the minister. They shook hands and he winked at the boys, "I've got money on this boys. Don't let me down".

Arden Yaxley strode up to them with Jence Greengrass in tow.

"You should tell the minister to save his money" Yaxley looked at Tom.

"Especially you golden boy, I bet you're not as good as they say"

Tom looked unphased by his comment, " in order to get the honor to duel me today Yaxley, you have to get through two duels and then Nott" he crossed his arms on his chest, "I won't have to lift a wand to you".

Yaxley gritted his teeth, "Oye Nott" he picked up his chin, "if I best you, say I get that pretty little blonde that's always on your  neck".

Theo lunged with Mulciber and Black catching him.

Mr. Mulciber walked over, "save it for the duels". They all straightened and took their seats.

Nora sat in the back alone watching. She had to admit they impressed her. The first set of rounds they all sat back down within fifteen minutes. Every single one of Tom's group won their first two duels.

    Greengrass was matched against Tom. He was in their year but they never shared a dueling class. He was supposed to be top of his class, he was quick as fire some parent in the audience told her.

Tom bowed, taking confident strides away and turning at the ready. Greengrass could barely draw his wand before Tom disarmed him, leaving the crowd to gasp. He hit him with a leg locking spell knocking him to the floor. Within minutes he was claimed the victor. His moves were formal, loudly pronouncing spells he could easily do in his mind. The duel was clearly a performance to entice the pure blood audience to be in awe of his powers.

   He even removed the leg lock on his opponent when the duel was done. Giving him his hand and pulling him up slapping him on the back for a good attempt

"Maybe next time Greengrass".

   Eldritch Diggory beckoned him over afterwards, having him sit and talk while the next round started.

Theo stupefied Yaxley who flew back. He caught himself hitting Theo back. An electric buzz echoed as magic flew across the area.

"May I?" Cygnus approached Nora who watched intently, moving her head as he stood in front of the duel.

"Only if you do so quickly!" She snapped back and he smirked at her intensity as she watched them duel.

  There wasn't any letting up from Yaxley, Nora watched with her teeth gritted fearing for her friend.

Come on Theo she thought, hit him with something stronger She thought as she watched her mouth moving silently.

While she watched the duel Black watched her.

Theo was hit on the shoulder, he cried out dropping to the floor but kept his wand up defending himself. Yaxley closed in as Theo struggled to stand .

Lenora gasped  Fiendfyre, use it to push him back. Fiendfyre she thought frustrated.

  Flames sprouted from the ground, crackling and growing. Yaxley began to step back as it grew. Fear flooded his face. The crowd gasped and murmured in panic, Theo looked in awe and sprung to his feet.

Black touched her hand "Nora" he said but she was in a trance her lips moving.

Tom stood in surprise and looked to Theo whose face looked as shocked as his own.

His face poured over the crowd until he saw Cygnus and Lenora.

  Her mouth was moving as if muttering. Black looked scared trying to shake her arm.

Tom excused himself from the Ministers box and  drew out his wand, "Finite Incantatem"he began to utter trying to reverse it.

He could keep them at bay but was unable to completely extinguish.

Black tried not to draw too much attention to her as he tried to get her attention.

Abraxas and Avery looked at Tom, was he doing the spell? They couldn't figure it out until Tom caught their eye and shook his head.

Abraxas saw Nora in the crowd, he knew.

Lestrange saw everything happen from a distance. He began to tear through the crowd ready to kick her chair out from under her to stop her.

The pull was strong, the flames were growing up to eight feet within minutes, even Mulciber senior called out "Alright Nott, you've got him now let's end this".

Black and Tom made eye contact for a moment. Do something.

Black put one hand around the back of Nora's neck. He pulled her head to the side with a quick tug and caught her cheek with the other hand. Then he kissed her roughly.

Almost pulling out her of her chair. His hand snaked around her waist and she made a muffled sound. Lenora's mind cleared for a moment. She felt his tongue collide with hers and she gasped. He smelled like leather and vanilla, she was surprised at how roughly he grabbed her although  it that moment she didn't mind.

Happily she returned the kiss, her hand touching his shoulder.

   The flames died down and Theo yelled "expelliarmus" disarming Yaxley and was declared a winner.

    All the boys took a breath of relief except for Tom. He was too busy watching Black pulling back from their tawdry exchange.

→ OVERVIEW:

The youngest of the infamous Yaxley twins, Victor Yaxley could be described as an outlandish character for those who had not met his sister ELEANOR. Born into a very wealthy family a few moments after his older sister, Victor followed Eleanor into the world and would spend his life doing the exact same thing thereafter. The only son of ELIJAH YAXLEY and ISMENA FLINT, Victor would have had an easy life if he had been an only child. The Yaxley family were fabulously wealthy, with influential ties to the Ministry through his uncle CORBAN. It was tradition that the eldest son, would take over the helm of the Yaxley family after the passing of Victor’s grandfather, but Victor’s father had always been more concerned with the stage than with balls and advantageous unions, prompting his grandmother ZARIAH YAXLEY to pressure his father into settling down and eventually marrying his mother. A larger than life man, Elijah had worked in the theatre since graduating Hogwarts, which Victor’s grandmother had always despised. A traditional woman, Zariah fiddled in the lives of her sons as she would later come to fiddle in the lives of her grandchildren. Before his marriage, Elijah had lived a life of chaos, chasing chorus girls and putting on lavish productions at the playhouse which made their family cringe. Victor had always gotten the impression from his father that marrying into the Flint family had broken his creative spirit in some way.

Despite being raised to always think of how you were perceived by others, Ismena did her best to ignore the constant whispers as she clapped for her husband and told her children how proud she was of their father. It was when Victor and Eleanor began to grow old enough to hear the whispers themselves his mother urged Elijah to give up the stage. When it came to drawing up marriage contracts both Ismena and Zariah knew families like the Blacks and the Malfoys married their children to Pure-Bloods entering society, not the children of an actor and playwright. Despite no longer working for the theatre, the Yaxley family could not outrun Elijah’s passion. The people he’d worked with were replaced with his children and Victor’s sister became the star of the show. Eleanor, like their father, demanded attention and whilst Ismena and Zariah tried to rear Victor to one day be the head of the family, as it seemed his sister was destined for a life like her father, Eleanor didn’t quite seem to get the message and treated him like her personal assistant rather than a brother. 

As she stood in the family parlour during her one woman shoes, Victor was reduced to making costumes and dressing her in them or ushering their family in to watch her sing. His sister was the only thing that eased his father’s departure from the theatre, but even Victor could see Eleanor wasn’t enough to make him happy. No one ever commented on it, but Victor would watch it all unfold silently. His mother would often tell him to stand up to his sister and demand her respect but Victor found it difficult to take advice from a woman who had allowed her husband to treat her so terribly. It was frustrating feeling to know that in their family Victor and his mother would only ever be supporting characters though he resided not to argue with his parents or sister about it. In Victor’s opinion, Eleanor was only capable of loving herself. She was a dead ringer for their father who had never taken an interest in anyone who couldn’t give him something he wanted. As he listened to his family he made a silent promise to himself to not end up like them. Unhappy and thrown together into a situation of convenience that would never manifest true happiness. He had hoped Hogwarts would be the start of finding that happiness he so desperately desired. Although Victor was much quieter than his sister and overlooked because of that, he had all the grandeur and showmanship of his father. 

Out of his school robes, Victor only wore expensive, hand tailored clothing and often had a hand in the process of designing all of the garments he wore. It was his love for his appearance and an ability to withstand being around very strong personalities that attracted the attention of NARCISSA BLACK. Sorted into Slytherin alongside her, Narcissa was everything his sister could never be but what Victor’s mother and grandmother hoped strict schooling would turn her into. Narcissa was image conscious and constructed a friendship group of beautiful people like him and his sister. VIOLET BULSTRODE and PERSEPHONE WILKES were perfect till they opened their mouths and REGULUS BLACK and RABASTAN LESTRANGE were handsome, stoic and quiet which seemed to be how Narcissa preferred her company. Although Victor was fond of her, the constant noise from the people that surrounded her and close proximity to his sister drew him to become friends drew him to become friends with WILLIAM GOYLE and ALECTO and AMYCUS CARROW, fellow Slytherins who floated on the edge of his original group of friends. The new group allowed Victor to explore a side of himself he’d never been brave enough to look at. Alecto and Amycus were trouble maker twins with a relationship which made him envious. Amycus let Alecto take the lead but was always there to catch her when she fell or jump aboard a plan she had to make the lives of those she hated miserable. 

He wondered if he and Eleanor could have been that way if he’d been more comfortable giving her the limelight or if she’d have been happy to share it. At first his friendship with the twins and William was to help boost his ego but then it became about something else entirely. Amycus Carrow was feared by all who knew him, but Victor saw something else. He was always seen as a monster, but Victor told himself it was mostly for show. The love he had for Alecto seemed too pure for him to be completely evil and although Victor projected a very firm and cold stance to the outside world, he allowed Amycus to see a softer side to him he believed they both shared. Victor found beauty and meaning in every owl he received from him and each glance and kiss exchanged after parties in dark corridors filled Victor with the promise of something more. Even when Amycus and his family were disgraced due to his father’s gambling, Victor was still willing to marry him and offer him every happiness. The Yaxley family refused to hear of it. As they lectured him on appearance and the importance of strong ties, his father sat oddly quiet. Elijah had never been much of a father but with their family reputation in the balance, Victor had thought he would say something, but he wouldn’t. Unbeknownst to Victor, his mother and sister, his father would have been a hypocrite. More than the love of the stage had prevented him from being a proper father and husband, leaving him with little a leg to stand on. 

CHRISTINE MAY was a Muggle actress and ¼ veela who had worked opposite his father for many years. Their professional chemistry had carried off screen and due to his stupidity or perhaps out of love, three children had been born. ADAIRIA LINWOOD and LAUREL LINWOOD were born before he’d married Ismena and had been swept under the carpet by Zariah. MAREN LINWOOD was born after Victor and Eleanor and had been a closely guarded secret his grandmother and father had tried their best to keep. A year their junior, Maren had been a favourite target of Victor and Eleanor’s at school to bully. A Muggle-Born witch, they’d known her from choir and despised her talent and prettiness, none the wiser her talent ran in their veins too. Knowing that if their birth was made public it would ruin the family, Victor’s grandmother had done her best to steer the family away from drama and draw up good contracts for the rest of the family to wither the storm should it come. As such she had thrown the twins at anyone she deemed worthy and sent numerous owls to RITA SKEETER to push her endeavours and make them seem more eligible to other families. Sick of her interfering, Victor hatched a plan to keep his grandmother at bay and plan his path to happiness. Scheming with former schoolmate Persephone Wilkes, the pair have been plotting a scandal sure to keep their annoying relatives at bay and cause the right kind of stir on the Sacred Twenty-Eight social scene.

Although Victor certainly questioned the merit of opening the usually closed event that was the Summer Solstice Ball to the public, the decision had certainly led to its fair share of drama. Enough to keep him interested, to be sure. First, of course, there was the downfall of the Linwood girl. Victor was none too bothered by it, of course, considering their history and how irritating she and her sister were. It’d teach people like the Linwoods not to show up at events that weren’t intended for them. 

However, what truly interested Victor from the night of the ball was not any social interaction or choice in outfit. What kept him up wondering late that night when he lay in his bed was the voice that had whispered, speaking directly to him. It should have given him pause, as it was a bit like an invasion. However, instead, it replayed in his mind as if on a loop. He’d never given much thought to corruption in the Ministry. Truthfully, he’d never cared much for politics one way or another. Victor hadn’t gotten much time to think about it at the actual event, considering how pretty much immediately after, all hell broke loose. Victor would much rather trade insults than hexes, and he did his level best to get the hell out of the fighting. He only hoped Amycus had done the same. 

The next morning over coffee, he spotted his sister. The two of them rarely spoke of things that mattered in depth, so he settled for a simple, “Morning.” However, he was interested to hear her thoughts about how the night unfolded. That was, on the off chance she had any. He took a sip of his coffee, eyes scanning the Daily Prophet.

Victor was still getting used to this, the feeling of a case file dropping on his desk for him. He feels like he’s been semi-lucky with partners for his first two cases –– even if the cases themself have been stressful and intense. He had Brittany, who he trusted more than anything. Eris, who he was familiar with even if only because they sat across from each other every day. He isn’t proud of it, but he’s been shying away from most of the office, afraid of what they’ll think of it. He isn’t sure that its done him any favours, and it may have only begun to play in to the gruff assassin persona, the way he silently prowled around the office, or stuck to his desk. 

He casts his gaze around, when he flips through the new case file on his desk. Emerson Yaxley was a bright pop of colour, compared to the rest of the office. He knew logistcially that she wasn’t really that much younger than him, a few years, but she had a youthful gleam to her that made her seem like she was from a different world. He’d noticed that about her most of all. She was bright, and he thinks that Ileana would like those bracelets that she wears around her wrist. He feels a swell of nervousness at the idea of working with someone new, someone who he hasn’t spoken to much already. He hopes, above all else, that she isn’t scared of him or something. He wouldn’t blame her if she was, but he can still dream that people will realise at a glance that he’s put away all weapons and claws, left his more vicious instincts behind him. 

There’s no way forward but to leap straight in, he imagines. He’s sure that no matter what she ends up thinking of him, she’ll be a good lead on this case. He slips away from his seat, silent footing leading him in the direction of her desk. He’s glad that it faces his own, so that she can see him coming from across the room. He gives her an almost sheepish look, when he arrives at her desk. “Um. Calliope’s name was inspired by mythology and they are as interesting, creative and ancient as their namesake. The second child of Ignatious Malfoy and his wife Asteria Malfoy, Calliope escaped any of the weight of their family name felt by their elder sibling LACHESIS MALFOY [sibling]. Instead, Calliope preferred to exercise themselves creatively, intent on using the Malfoy name to gain access to the most lavish theatres and dance halls the Wizarding World had to offer. Calliope spent their childhood writing elaborate scripts and monologues they would perform for their family and working away on songs by the piano under the strict gaze of their music teacher. Unlike many Sacred Twenty-Eight families, Calliope had noticed that their parents encouraged their children to follow their respective passions. Whilst they overheard the Black family at parties dreaming up the fates of their children, Ignatious and Astreia knew their children would achieve greatness, the area in question being entirely up to them. 

Due to their respective passions, Calliope grew up close to Lachesis. Respective right and left brain thinkers, they could always count on Lachesis for a fresh perspective on a piece of work or an idea, whilst they could count on Calliope to flip a rigid plan upside down and look at it from a more interesting perspective. Lachesis was their first friend in the world and Calliope was loyal to them to the end, which meant a united front on putting their cousin LUCIUS MALFOY [cousin] in his place. In an ideal world Calliope may have been friends with their cousin, their shared love of peacocking might have been enough to bond them; but the look in his eye as he attempted to get one over on their sibling was enough to rub Calliope the wrong way. The group was far more troublesome than Calliope liked, like their friends they had a fondness for making the right sort of people feel small, and whilst they occasionally used their powers to turn into a clown or jack-in-the-box and frighten unsuspecting classmates, Calliope preferred to use their creative and academic prowess to beat others into submission and was known for doing their best to be heard above the noise of JAMES POTTER [adversary], SIRIUS BLACK [adversary], PETER PETTIGREW [adversary] and REMUS LUPIN [adversary] they had the displeasure of sharing a year group with. A friend of the marauders, Calliope met Maren through choir and immediately disliked her. It was strange to them that a muggle-born could be so talented and so beloved, but it didn’t just irritate Calliope. Younger Slytherin ELEANOR YAXLEY [best friend] shared their bitter hatred for Maren, and the two found common ground and a blossoming friendship through their deep hatred of her. Through Eleanor, Calliope found themselves associating with a new group of people, becoming close friends with Eleanor’s twin brother VICTOR YAXLEY [close friend], REGULUS BLACK [close friend] and half-blood SEVERUS SNAPE [close friend] from their own year. Calliope was surprised they would be able to befriend a half-blood, having staunch opinions on blood purity that had been handed down to them by their family, but Severus was quietly calculated much like themself and Calliope appreciated anyone who shared their dislike for those who did not belong in the spotlight, like the marauders and their irritating gang of fans. 

Upon leaving school there was only one career that Calliope and that was one on the stage. Their family name was synonymous with political ambition and meddling due to rumours floating around that their father and their uncle Abraxas had been involved in the ousting of a previous Minister for Magic. Not that Calliope would care to admit it, but they were glad of how much their cousin Lucius had done to pave the way into changing this image. Lucius had many key figures in their world in their pocket and whilst Calliope was not known for their warmth toward him, they were happy to use his name as and when to make connections in the theatrical world, eventually landing themselves in shows at The Beausoleil Theatre. Whilst not the biggest name in Wizarding London, no one can deny Calliope dedication to their craft, especially older stories and their ability to change their features to commit to a role have made them a beloved presence on the stage and a crowd favourite. But as well as being an actor, Calliope has much more going on in their world and furthering their families political careers is one of them. 

It was their father’s wish as he lay old and imbolie in his bed that Calliope and Lachesis follow Lucius in joining THE DARK LORD [leader] in his quest for power. Whilst being part of an anarchist political group was not part of Calliope’s initial plans for their future, they understood the importance of securing the Malfoy family at the top and more importantly seating Lachesis close by his side. New to the death eaters, Calliope likes to see themself as Lachesis special weapon, having shifted into multiple people to help their sibiling. DOLORES UMBRIDGE [person of interest], Calliope slipped her a potion and sat in on an important meeting to feedback to their sibling, once they even became HARRISON BAGNOLD [person of interest] just to see how much his mother might say. AMYCUS CARROW is TWENTY-FOUR YEARS OLD and a BARMAN at THE GRAVE AFFAIR in KNOCKTURN ALLEY. He looks remarkably like DACRE MONTGOMERY and considers himself NEUTRAL. He is currently OPEN.

→ OVERVIEW:

The strong, silent and sadistic type, Amycus Carrow has always enjoyed feeling like the most powerful person in the room, no matter what it takes for him to gain that feeling he craves. The eldest child of IRIS HOOKUM and EROS CARROW, Amycus has always been someone who liked to cause mischief but knew when exactly to step aside and allow everyone around him to take the fall when the going gets tough. A strong yet silent charmer, despite his beauty Amycus has been used to being slightly overlooked due to the large personality of his twin sister ALECTO. A few minutes separate Amycus from his younger sister, though in his mind it might as well have been a decade. His best friend from the moment she was born, Amycus wasn’t exactly certain when he had made the pact with himself to protect Alecto but he has spent a lifetime looking out for her and oftentimes taking the brunt of punishment for her actions. A schemer, Amycus enjoyed playing small pranks on the elves they had working at Carrow House. Curious about their magic, Amycus enjoyed prodding the elves to see what magic they might use against him and if despite his youth he would be able to counter their magic. The game between him and the elves was one of cat and mouse and began his interest in pressing the buttons of others to gauge how much he would get away with. For Amycus it was all about power. How much power could he wield over others and what he had in his possession.

When some elves were promptly punished and dismissed by his mother for their insolence, he didn’t feel sorrow as many children did. Amycus felt pride. Proud he had engineered such an encounter and interested to see what else he could get away with. Alecto also enjoyed punishing the house elves, though Amycus noted that it came from a completely different place for his sister. Alecto was consumed with rage, enjoying the pain she inflicted on others and doing anything in her power to feel the thrill of the reactions she garnered from both the elves and their family. At first, his mother presumed Alecto to be behaving out of childish wickedness, but as she got older it hinted as something a little darker. Alecto loved chaos and to be the master of it sitting at the helm and watching drama unfold before her pale green eyes. Despite his sister being quite willing to throw him under the Knight Bus headed straight for London in order to get out of trouble, Amycus felt very protective over her. If Alecto took some scissors to his mother’s gowns in anger, Amycus was found holding them. She wanted to eat biscuits before dinner, he was caught by their father getting them off the shelf and passing them to his sister. Having a very mischievous side, Amycus was always happy to aid Alecto in any of her schemes and took little to no persuasion to be part of her double act, but when their parents eyes focused in on them, Alecto was quick to point the finger and Amycus was happy for her to do it.

They were different in their pursuits of chaos. Amycus liked to get his hands dirty, Alecto preferred to watch other people carry out her dirty work for her. Alecto was the only person he would ever take the heat for, otherwise Amycus was quite a selfish person but his selflessness for his sister cost him his relationship with his father to a degree. Alecto was their father’s undisputed favourite, whilst Amycus held the favour of their mother. Though both the twins were high spirited, Amycus was more predictable than his sister. Away at school, he continued his role of keeper to Alecto. Slotting into a group of mischievous fellow Slytherins which jettisoned off NARCISSA BLACK’s court of subjects, drawing out the cruelty in an otherwise subdued VICTOR YAXELY and giving WILLIAM GOYLE and outlet for all of his most wicked thoughts and feelings. Narcissa might have ruled Slytherin with a cold heart and an iron fist, but Amycus and Alecto left people running scared. Muggle-Borns in particular ran in fear, but some fought back. MEAGHAN MCCORMACK was particularly mouthy, but Amycus enjoyed seeing how his persistence might mentally break her down. That was Amycus bread and butter long before he would learn of the unforgivable curses, toying with the kids of others like a cat with a ball. Even his own friends weren’t safe. Amycus had long suspected his best friend Victor as having feelings for him which Amycus mainly entertained for his own enjoyment. 

The reality of it was Amycus was only drawn in by people of strength and whilst most people found Victor’s twin sister ELEANOR YAXLEY unbearable, Amycus could see more of a future with her due to her unwillingness to be walked on. Amycus had a very high opinion of himself and whilst he has enjoyed various flings throughout his life, he truly believes no one is his intellectual match. At school, this high opinion of himself manifested in his attitude to teachers, constant trips in and out of detention hindering his grades and stunting whatever natural ability he had. Despite being a talented wizard, his arrogance and willingness to protect his sister above all else ensured his future would only ever be as the head of Carrow House. Alecto by his side and elves at their back and call it was enough for him, but his mother wanted more for her children. The Carrow twins might have been horrible characters but they were very beautiful and from a Sacred Twenty-Eight family which instantly made them desirable prospects for people who might try and tame them or had aspirations of marrying into an elite family. Eros had very little interest in marrying off his children, but cared about the continuation of their line and needed at least one child to carry it forward. Amycus had very little interest in children and was bored by the idea of marriage but allowed his mother to do her very best to try and match them up with someone.

If Amycus was to marry he wanted a challenge and would only settle for his equal in charm, beauty, blood and intellect, which was a fairly tall order. PERSEPHONE WILKES was a witch who liked things her own way and played second fiddle to no one which Amycus found interesting. Over the course of their courtship, Amycus tried his best to get in her head and under her skin, but only found boredom and distain from her. Tired, he focused his attention on trying to steal away THORFINN ROWLE from under ANASTASIA DUPONT’s nose but that only entertained him for so long. Iris was irritated by his behaviour who seemingly was showing the door to any suitor who knocked on it including Victor Yaxley but at the very least someone was there knocking. No one was even stupid enough to try to make a play for his sister and this realisation made his mother resort to desperate actions. Urging Eros to join the poker nights of CECCILY GREENGRASS, CYGNUS BLACK, WALBURGA BLACK, ILLAR TRAVERS and EELIS BURKE in the hopes of marrying off Alecto. It was eventually decided Alecto would be passed off to CAIUS BURKE, filling their mother wit joy, Alecto with anger and Amycus into fits of laughter. With his mother drawing up a contract with the Burke family, Amycus was left to his own devices, as was his father who had gotten a real taste for gambling whilst the back of his family was turned. Quietly, Eros had been getting a hole of debt which saw Ceccily Greengrass in possession of their home and demanding money from the family they no longer had. It wasn’t long before RITA SKEETER found out and it became known the family was broke. 

Alecto lost her contract, powerful people lost interest in Amycus and suddenly they had nothing. Power and status was everything to Amycus and now the stares of fear and admiration in his friends and foe had been replaced by pity. He was disgusted. Like a flash, his life had changed. He was the heir of Carrow House and now he was serving drinks to his friends at The Grave Affair. His reputation had followed him and his sister and it seemed that only CHRISTIANO and ANDRESSA PARKINSON felt pity for their situation. Amycus and Alecto did their best to pass their sentence working at the bar, conning people out of their money and mixing drinks that were so strong they could knock you out to those they despised. It was a small shred of what he had but it didn’t make him happy. Then one day he set his sights on someone who brought a glimmer of hope back into his life. LUCILLE JONES was a slightly older witch with so much self-confidence she seemed like a tough nut to crack. From a liberal family with a wicked streak similar to his own, Amycus has been slowly getting to know her and has felt shards of himself return as he watches her from across the bar. Although Amycus never thought someone would be able to play his intellectual games, Lucille has proven a formidable opponent, even if she is only a Half-Blood. With the aim of getting Lucille like putty in his hands, Amycus is interested to see how much he can get to do for him. Give him inside information? Steal from her aunt? Turn her family? Only time will tell.

You were there the day of the Diagon Alley attack– you were there for what you’ve come to realize was the true opening shot of the war. It made you realize how you’re all not just kids with some dream of saving the world anymore– this is real. Real people died while real people watched. It’s made you re-evaluate the person you thought you wanted to be, re-evaluate how you look at your friends. God, you wish you could still be the idealist you were when you walked into the bookstore that day.

HISTORY:

Sometimes Peter Pettigrew wished that he had been a muggle instead of a wizard. He had told that to his mom once, and she had laughed it off as she pinched his cheeks. She understood especially because his father had been one. Peter had looked at the old war pictures and he couldn’t help but think he was the greatest man alive, even if he couldn’t remember. It wouldn’t be so awful to not have powers if it meant he could be like his dad and like the story books he had left in the house.

That’s why when he got the letter to go to Hogwarts he wasn’t as excited as his mother. He had hoped that his late magical abilities meant that he wouldn’t get in, but instead he was hustled into a world he didn’t particularly fit into. All the other kids knew what house they belonged to – he got a hat stall that ended because the house thought that his visions of bravery could be realized. He guessed no one had really told the hat that just because you wished to be the protagonist of the story didn’t mean that you were.

Still, for a while at least he was lulled to the idea that he could be a great wizard. He had made friends, and had adventures with them, and although they could tell he wasn’t in their league they still cared about him. It made him bolder, and sometimes stronger knowing that the marauders were around, and he was forever grateful. Although it never got easier, especially around wizards who were powerful and knowing that he was never going to reach their heights. He tried for a while, sneaking around reading textbooks and trying to get his wand to just do the spell. Still no matter how many nights and he tried, it seemed that he wasn’t going to progress well.

So instead he took his position beside his friends and tried to hide the fact that he didn’t belong.  He tried to obscure the fact that he was a muggle in a wizard’s world, while keeping up he’s debating skills.  He tried to pretend that he was a slacker, while hiding his muggle books under his bed. Still when his friends joined the Order, he knew that it was his only chance to also be great. Although he could see the hesitation in Moody’s eyes, they let him in and he was determined to prove that he could be useful. Instead of a solider he could be a philosopher and try to debate them. He could show that muggle knowledge was worthwhile and useful to their society – when he plucked up the courage to actually say something. He was going to have to work on it, but he was sure that it would be great.

That was until he went into work one day, and all the chaos broke loose. He managed – just barely to get out with his life. There wasn’t any time to save others, and even if he had it wouldn’t make a difference. There wasn’t any right or wrong that he could come up with, just those who had power and those didn’t. He wasn’t a hero, and he wasn’t strong enough to become one.

Now Peter understands how wrong he was. Just because they were on the right side doesn’t mean that they were going to be the victors and being noble didn’t keep you out of a body bag. All of the ethics in the world doesn’t matter in this war, only those who have power and those who don’t. Not only that he realized how truly useless he was in the grand scheme of things. Now the fear has set in, the only thing Peter can focus on is the fact that if he doesn’t choose to safe himself no one else will save him.
