thank you this is a great addition! i always have so much trouble looking him up.
I want to get a job at the strip club near my house and then I want to see how far I can push pretending to be an actual irl vampire. if you're unfamiliar with sex work you need to have the context here that there is no stupider person on earth than the average hetero male sex work customer and that this idea has a nonzero chance of actually no-joke seriously convincing more than one of them and I just think that would be funny

Tumblr media
You knew the deal. Nine words spoken in a nonformal contract to you the first time Miguel clawed his way into your apartment, bloodied and bruised.
“I cant promise you I’ll come home, mi alma.”
And you knew the words after that, too.
“… but I can promise you that I will die trying, with you in my thoughts, always.”
That night, he sat you down. Made you swear that you would never get too attached. Being a superhero in New York was a lethal deal, and you had to be prepared for anything— everything. Miguel wouldn’t stand the thought of breaking your heart, at least without warning, so he forced you to seal it, everything you loved about him buried away in the depths of your mind.
Yet, human emotion was the victor concerning the inner workings of your heart. And, when he comes home, every little detail of that contract you made shatters.
Miguel treads the glass of your longing heart with fatigued steps, focused on nothing but the sweet capture of your embrace. You feel as if he is a gift sent from the heavens themselves, gazing upon shades of brown that reflect tawny in the light. The light stubble he grew scratches against your jaw as he draws thick sighs of relief, and you feel as if you’re in a fever dream, hands tiredly fumbling for your belt as you sing your praises of his return.
And still, nights like those are a rarity. The words he uttered to you years ago float through your head like a lost prayer, and you’re left lost in the shadow of his absence.
You often find yourself waiting for Miguel to come home. Through all four seasons, the same spot on the couch awaits you night after night, TV static spitting dull reflections of the world outside as you stare up at the ceiling. Some nights, you wonder if he’s finally met his maker and run short of luck.
You still wait. Days turn into weeks, and weeks turn into months. Just as you’re about to lose hope, he returns, just the same as you remember. Suit roughed up, gashes and cuts adorning his skin. He’s nonchalant to the fact, sultry eyes staring you down— a look that you know is just for you. Your fingers find homage in the roots of your hair, brushing thick, unruly strands from his gaze. A little longer than you remember.
“Qué bueno verte, tesorito.” He mumbles, tracing his teeth against your neck as he picks at your skin. “Te extrañé.”
[“IT’S GOOD TO SEE YOU, TREASURE. I’VE MISSED YOU.”]
You hum, eagerly latching around the collar of his suit as he pulls your shirt off. Heat trails along your thighs as his bare hands run along them, dipping his head to kiss you while his index finger loops around your panties. He tastes lightly of cedar and pine, and you smile against his lips as the familiarly of him settles deep within your chest.
“I’ve been thinking about you, day and night.” His voice is just above a whisper, fingers dragging along the slick folds of your pussy. “Couldn’t wait to come home and…”
His sentence trails off into a hitch in his throat, blinking slow at the sight of you, practically drooling for him. His fingers swipe lazily at your bud, kicking the rest of his suit off before snaking over you. You’re panting lightly, face tinted in a dusted pink as he strokes his cock, teeth lightly tugging at his lips as he does so.
“Don’t tease me, Miguel.” You complain, softly pinching his arm. “I want you, now.”
He huffs in amusement, lips perking up in a smile.
“You haven’t changed a bit, cariño.”
[“HEART.”]
The shift of his hips is sudden, and you gasp at the sudden intrusion of his cock filling up your hole. A heavy breath escapes you as he struggles to push his way fully inside, hands planted firmly on your sides, head just inches from yours. Sensing your discomfort, Miguel peppers kisses over your lips, seemingly making the way he bullies his way into your walls more bearable.
“So pretty, mi alma.” His words are soft, flowing in both ears as he draws himself back. “Sé que puedes tomarlo, breathe.”
[“MY SOUL. YOU CAN HANDLE IT.”]
You do as he instructs. Tears prick at your eyes as he thrusts in and out of you, cock heavy with lust, dragging against your tight walls. With each slap of his balls against your pussy, you can see Miguel’s gentle nature slowly escape him. His breathing becomes rugged and hot, panting against your neck in rough takes. Tiny beads of sweat collect at the base of his forehead, and he grips the headboard above you to stay grounded.
“Mmh- feels so good Miguel.” You whine, hands clawing at his scalp. “Don’t stop.. please.”
Your words toy with his self control, twisting a knot deep in his abdomen that furrows his eyebrows tightly together. The growl that emerges from his throat is nearly animalistic, and you bite your lips as he lifts your neck up with his nose.
“Need to taste you, por favor.” His words are strained, mouth hanging open to flash the canines rooted into his gums. “I’ll be gentle, ah- I promise.”
[“PLEASE.”]
His pace is unrelenting, in sync with the fangs that sink into your flesh. Miguel moans against your skin, sending a deep vibration to your nerves that makes you squirm. Blood drips from the puncture when he releases himself from you, lifting a thumb to stifle the bleeding.
The taste of your own blood fills your mouth as he kisses you, and you feel a wave of heat flash over your body. Your stomach tightens, and you cry out against his mouth, faintly gasping as he presses down harder on your throat.
It’s all too much— yet not enough. Miguel groans your name, pace stuttering as spurts of cum paint your insides white. His hold on your skin lightens at the feeling of you gushing over his cock, thrusting sloppily against your spent pussy a few more times before pulling out.
He fully snaps back once his dick flops against your stomach, thick strands of hair messily coating his eyes. You pant in synchrony, chests heaving, blood slowly flowing from your cheeks. He looks so pretty like this— glassy eyes fighting to stay open, fangs prodding against his mouth, slightly ajar.
Such a sight reminds you of why you wait for him to come home, no matter how long it takes. After all, you knew what you signed up for, and his return only made you yearn for him further. Never could you imagine putting your life in anyone else’s hands.
You push at him lightly, gesturing to the open wounds on your neck. Miguel scrambles once he sees them, hurriedly returning to you with a large wrap of gauze and a bottle of rubbing alcohol.
“Lo siento, cariño.” He mutters, gently sticking a few thick layers of bandaging against your skin. “I should’ve controlled myself, I’m-“
[“I’M SORRY, LOVE.”]
You cut him off by pressing your index finger to his lips, smiling as his mouth slowly falls shut.
“Don’t worry, Miguel. You’ll let me get you back, won’t you?”

I absolutely loved your take on a hunger games AU!! I know it is a once shot, so my question is this. What are some headcannons you have about Wednesday and Enid in this particular AU?? ❤️❤️ just any that you think would be accurate?
Thank you so much for reading it, and for the ask and kind words! I spent about an hour thinking about the background before I wrote the little fic, and here is what I came up with!
For this AU, I was thinking 60th Hunger Games, or something in that ballpark. I put Enid in District 2 not just because it seems sort of close to where she is from in canon, but also because I felt like her overall aesthetic and demeanour would put her somewhere a little more proximal to the capitol, and I liked the idea of her being an unorthodox career tribute. I played around with the idea of Wednesday volunteering as well, but I thought she would ultimately be more ethically opposed to the Hunger Games than intrigued by the gore and violence.
I didn’t explicitly mention this in the oneshot, but I pictured her in District 6, with the Addams family being sort of upper-class in the district like how Madge’s family was in the original series, to track with her privileged upbringing from the movies and show’s canon. Fencing lessons felt appropriate for a macabre kid who was a little bit better-resourced than most. I feel like she would have a distain for the capitol but would take the route of using their tools to play her own game rather than outright trying to start a Revolution or something— she always struck me as a bit of a reluctant hero who found her way into saving the world out of her own fixations, (initial/put-on) self-centeredness, and moral code. So, if she won the games, she would make her impact once she was a Victor rather than trying to blow the games apart as a tribute.
They are both 16 in the AU I wrote (hinted at that but didn’t directly say), and Enid’s family sent her off to the academy to train pretty young, whereas Wednesday was always very into school and by nature is entering the arena without formal training but with quite the encyclopaedia of knowledge and without being afraid to get her hands a bit dirty.
No powers in this AU, of course, but Wednesday has good instincts for guessing outcomes based on meticulous analysis and gut instinct, and Enid has modded her canine teeth into fangs á la Enobaria. I think her show-stopper move in the arena would be eviscerating other tributes with her nails but without fanfare or claiming the kills outright. Silent but deadly, and the polish hides the blood underneath her nails. Wednesday grabs a sword at the cornucopia and kills a tribute in the process, but she doesn’t see Enid make any attempt at grabbing a weapon or allying herself with the other careers, which she makes note of.
Wednesday gets a high score for her training test because she was able to demonstrate a exceptional degree of competency in pretty much every area, but especially because she was able to predict other tribute’s scores and the game makers were kind of weirded out and impressed (in my mind, she has a near-photographic knowledge of all the prior games because she is a Weird Kid™️, and uses that as well as her observations during training and readings). Enid got an 11 for dissecting the model dummy with a surgical precision using only her nails.
I’m open to the idea that either one of them dies in my short AU, or that they both do. My MO, which is consistent throughout all my fics, is to show that my core belief is that they are evenly matched. I don’t think Wednesday has the upper hand on Enid, and I think Enid can be a victim of fandom character flattening— I like to call back to the fact that, in canon, she’s not only very popular amongst her peers (a skillset Wednesday lacks), but extracurricularly engaged and being called on by the headmistress to give tours of the campus, which tells me she is probably a high achiever. And, Bianca sees her as a threat to some degree, and she’s the reigning popular AND smart girl. Maybe her grammar and spelling could use some work, but she’s not inherently less smart than Wednesday, and the “this kitty has claws” scene in the pilot deliberately set her up to be Wednesday’s equally balanced foil. So, for this AU, I didn’t want Wednesday to just sweep the games because she’s Wednesday, I wanted Enid to be real competition to her.
The following part of the story would be Enid starting an alliance with Wednesday where their tension and bond continues to grow and eventually they have to decide to kill each other or separate and let other people kill them. I think Wednesday would kill Enid and come out of the games extremely resentful of the Capitol for constructing that situation, or they would separate but she would kill a tribute making a shot at Enid to save her, just further complicating their mutually assured destruction. Enid, however, I see preferring to just separate. Is there room for a situation where they are fighting together and, after they vanquish the final enemy, the camera pans to show that one of them has fatally stabbed the other accidentally? If Enid wins, she gets her scars during the games.
I also considered an AU where Wednesday was a mentor who freshly won the previous year’s games and Enid was the new tribute she had to train, but thought it might strike a bit close to home since the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes has a mentor/tribute dynamic going on. In that case, though, I see Wednesday winning her games through mostly tactical moves and a fair amount of well-timed and executed (pardon the pun) kills, possibly starting to get a bit creative with them which won her some points with the capitol. I imagine Enid wanting to take a more charismatic approach to win over the sponsors and form alliances, which she butts heads with Wednesday “I work alone” Addams about.
Anyway, that’s sort of what I was thinking for this particular AU! I feel like there must be an awesome collection of fics with the Hunger Games AU prompt out there, and although I haven’t read those, I bet there are tons of cool directions to take the lore.
Thanks so much for the question and for reading the fic!!! 💕

The events of the day start under the cut.
Out of desperation, Direthorn ran off to try and get more pie. This is when the others decide that now is a good time for lunch. For that, they go to the Blue Water Inn at the center of town. They order food from the owner, and while they do, they meet an interesting individual.
Tumblr media
Rudy is a half elf bard with an ornate pan flute around his neck, and he’s playing his lute when they all come into the inn. Flopsy takes interest in him, since he’s been thoroughly convinced that he’s a bard, as well. He insists that he should show Rudy his talent, and he does. Rudy’s reaction isn’t quite what Flopsy expected.
The bard tells him that there can be ways to improve the sound of his music. He can see that he really enjoys playing his banjo, so Rudy wants him to get better. He teaches Flopsy how to play the strings of his banjo using his nails as picks.
Rudy also takes a liking to Ismark, acting flirtatious with him. The feelings seem to be mutual, and Ismark decides to give Mangus another impromptu lesson. This lesson assures Mangus that love and romance doesn’t have to just be between a man and a woman. It can happen between two men, two women, or even people that aren’t necessarily men or women. With that, Ismark decides to talk it up with Rudy after that.
As they’re eating lunch, the group comes up with a game plan as to how they’re going to take care of the coffin shop investigation. Neracahne and Nyra decide that they’re going to go during the day first after lunch. Once they build a good rapport with the coffin maker and can get permission to investigate further, then they would be in great shape. They all agree that this is a great idea. The only one that doesn’t go with them in their group is Ismark, because he decides to stay behind to hang out with Rudy. The party teases him by saying he only wants to stay for the wine, but he’s defensive over that and insists that there’s another reason for him to stay behind.
Going to the coffin shop are Abrascus, Adelaide, Escher, Flopsy, Ireena, Mangus, Neracahne, and Nyra.
When the party gets to the coffin shop, Neracahne and Nyra tell everyone else to “distract the bunny,” because once Flopsy gets inside, their little ruse is over. Using this opportunity, the rest of the party does, indeed, distract Flopsy. Mangus brings up his confusion over the discussion he had with Ismark the night before, and he asks the group what he means by that.
Flopsy is more than happy to give him a more in depth lesson on “the birds and the bees.” Of course, this is from a man’s perspective, and he gets into so much detail that there are hand gestures. Escher is so horrified that he covers Adelaide’s ears so that she couldn’t hear what Flopsy was saying. However, Ireena gets to hear everything. Her response to this awkward talk is, “I don’t think that’s how that works.”
Adelaide looks up at Escher after the talk is over, and tries to ask about one of the gestures that Flopsy made. Her eyes weren’t also covered, after all. Flopsy tells her that he can show her, which hopefully was a bluff. In response, Escher is so furious that he glares at Flopsy. Unfortunately for Escher, he suddenly reveals to Flopsy that he has fangs in the process. Through what Flopsy knows about vampires, he comes to the conclusion that Escher is one.
Flopsy tells Escher that he knows, in a way that won’t rouse too much suspicion. Escher’s a little paranoid and doesn’t want him to tell anyone. There’s a little bit of blackmail involved, however. Flopsy tells Escher that he won’t tell, if he tells him how Flopsy can become a vampire, himself. They agree that they will talk further later on in the day.
Meanwhile…
Neracahne and Nyra are able to get a successful introduction with the coffin shop. Henrik van der Voort is the owner’s name. He has great slogans, such as, “Welcome to my coffin shop. Who died?” in a rather deadpanned voice. They tell him that they’re here to investigate and need to come back at night. Henrik looks a little nervous about that, but he agrees. They’re so nice to him that he complies. Besides, this investigation was initiated by Izek Strazni.
The Baron’s Dinner.
Next on their agenda is having dinner with the Baron. Only the player characters went to dinner, save for Direthorn. Direthorn will be given a sort of “to go” version of what the others had for their meal. There, they meet Vargas’ wife, Lady Lydia Petrovna, and his son, Baronet Victor Vallakovich.
Tumblr media
Vargas seems very pleased to be ostentatious with his meal choices for them. They’re given a four-course meal, with the prized course being a uniquely crafted goulash. This stew was used with “locally sourced” venison. The Baron got a special treatment for his plate, for he also had a heart. It was his favorite part of the meal.
The only people that didn’t have the goulash were Victor and Flopsy, who instead had salad.
Flopsy has been sitting beside the Baron’s wife, who’s at the other end of the table. He notices that she’s acting strange, laughing at whatever her husband says and making small talk with the others. She doesn’t quite seem to be fully engaged. So, Flopsy talks to her through napkin notes, asking if she’s happy and if her husband is good to her. She answers “no” to both of those. Flopsy manages to successfully communicate with Neracahne about the situation, and he wants to try and see if he can help her while the Baron doesn’t notice. This will have to be something for a later time, though.
During this course, Abrascus is picking at the meat in his stew, taking it out but eating the rest of it. The Baron questions this, for if he didn’t want the meat then he should’ve just gotten the salad. Abrascus tells him that he didn’t want a salad and just wanted the stew. Vargas seems to be delighted when offering to eat the meat that he didn’t want. However, Abrascus takes this offer to throw the bits of meat at the Baron. Appalled and irritated over that response, Vargas looks like he’s showing restraint when he tells Abrascus, “I really don’t like you.”
Izek during dinner gives Vargas a letter, which seems to be notifying him of what the adventurers are about to investigate. He’s pleased by this, but he tells them that if they don’t figure out what’s disturbing the peace before the festival, then they will be arrested. There’s then a debate between him and Mangus over whether saying “retire” for resting was appropriate or not, and he leaves them with his son.
Now that they are alone, this is when Victor really talks to the adventurers about being from outside of Barovia. He tells them that he wants to leave, and he’s been trying to work on something to help him get out. The magic users (as well as Flopsy) are able to discern that he’s been working on a teleportation circle. Under the guise of wanting to see Lady Lydia, Flopsy agrees to stop by to help. Victor assures them that they will probably be more than welcome to join one of her tea parties, which she throws rather frequently. Victor also tells them that Lady Lydia is his stepmother, and he suspects that she’s unhappy, too. If his own brooding wasn’t anything to go by, the general consensus around the Baron is “not an okay dude.”
After dinner, the party goes back to the Von Holtz manor first. They grab Escher so that he can help them, and then they set out to the coffin shop. Direthorn still has not reunited with the group yet. Despite that, they all continue without them.
First, they debate over how they’re going to go inside the shop. Mangus asks Flopsy to throw him through one of the second-story windows. Flopsy refuses, thinking that Mangus will just hurt himself. Neracahne and Nyra are ready to go through the door. Since Henrik knew that they were coming, the door was unlocked. Abrascus tries to look around on the ground floor, but the search turns up nothing. There are no incriminating things on the ground floor. During this, they also mull over going upstairs.
Escher suddenly tells them all to be quiet, since he hears something. The only one that doesn’t quite hear the conversation is Mangus. They hear Henrik and another mystery voice conversing briefly. Paraphrasing, the conversation goes as follows:
Unknown: “You need to lie low.” Henrik: “Please. They’re onto me. I can’t keep this up!” Unknown: “Lie. Low. Three more days.”
Abrascus leads the way upstairs, blocking the entryway to the other rooms at the stairwell. He corners Henrik, who is startled at seeing him. He claims that there was no one else here with him. And, sure enough, there’s no one else in here with him. However, Flopsy was able to detect schools of magic from downstairs. He tries detecting it up here. He does find six very clear pings of necromancy from different areas of the second floor. Henrik tells them that he has no idea what necromancy even is, but he does look nervous.
The interrogation turns to Escher, for a brief moment. He’s a necromancer, after all. He’s even mentioned that he was in a previous investigation, though they didn’t find anything at that time. However, Escher immediately shuts that theory down. The last time he was here was twenty-two years ago, and a lot can change in twenty-two years. His reasoning takes a little too long for them to accept.
Flopsy has had enough of the meandering, so he decides to take action. He goes to the nearest crate that he sensed necromancy and yanks it open. When he does, out springs a very hungry vampire spawn. When one does, the other six do, as well. When they all come out, Henrik suddenly panics and tries to persuade the spawn. “Stop! It’s not time yet, it’s not time yet!” However, there’s no trying to persuade six hungry vampire spawn when there are many different food sources right in front of them.

A lot of places are named after historical events, battles, and people, so keep that in mind. God/Goddess names tied to your world also work well. Places are also often named after things that the area is known for, like Georgia being known for its peaches.
My brain was fried by the end of this so feel free to add more!
I hope you find this reference helpful and good luck world-building!

His name was Victor. Or Viggo. He did not remember correctly, it was so long ago. Zahid was scared, that was true. A fledgling rarely controlled their fangs when they are first turned, the faintest heartbeat could trigger their animal instinct. Zahid recalled the first taste of blood, a passerby who wanted to help him. It still haunted him. "I was...but it made me better, I think." That's what he liked to believe. Zahid rarely thought of the past, and pushed down any indication to do so. The past was the past, it was meant to stay behind.
"I am sure." Zahid pulled his collar down, exposing his neck. "It won't hurt, my love. And I can pull you off if I need to." He was her maker, he was stronger than her by most margins. Zahid didn't want to lose the love of his life, and in turn exposed her to this existence. What cruel, cruel fate.
Tumblr media
She didn't want to move. She just wanted to stay there, wrapped in his arms where she was safe. She knew it was a temporary haven and she would have to face reality sooner rather than later. But for now, she curled her hands into the material of his shirt and let her eyes close. She listened to him, letting his voice wash over her. He would be there every step of the way. He would pull her through.
She had to count on that.
Sabine opened her eyes to meet his gaze. She frowned when he explained that the vampire who made him left him to fend for himself. "That should have never happened...you must have been so confused, so scared..." She hated to think of him in that state. Her face flushed at the thought of blood. Already she could feel an ache in her mouth, fangs threatening to just dig into flesh. She placed a hand to her lips to try and quell the urge. "Are you sure?" She didn't want to hurt him. She knew logically that he was stronger than her but part of her worried that she would latch on and then not let go.

For a moment, the blond paused, but allowed Kiki to change the subject.
Garridan couldn’t help but smile, shyly looking away at the scenario. Another sleepover? How lovely. “W-well...of course, that sounds wonderful...though I’d rather prepare with...snacks...I’m sure you wouldn’t just like tea.” He bent his knees, resting his head on them for a moment. Biting into his lower lip, he could feel anxiety swell in his stomach; but thinking of his maker’s face instantly calmed him down--despite the pang of grief that came with it.
“I don’t mind, actually....ah, it’s kind of a long story, my transformation... so I...I hope I don’t bore you, just...please let me know, alright?” Flashing a small, nervous smile, Garridan hugged himself a bit tighter as a rather dreamy expression traced his face.
Closing his eyes, the vampire retraced his steps, far back into his memory. To a time when the world ran turbulent with war, with bloodshed; but he could remember so vividly...
“1944.” Uttering the year, he seemed to fall back into time, oblivious to the current surrounding. “I was...twenty-four years old, in Cluj-Napoca. A town in Transylvania, Romania...my home.”
“It w-was...an era marked by tragedy. Nazis invaded on one end, the other the Soviets...I was about...ah, I was twenty four. My tată  was rather old, he couldn’t serve...and there were so many bodies, Kiki...so many. More than I could count--I didn’t serve, I couldn’t--I had to assist my tată . One night, I happened to meet the most handsome man I’d ever seen…” A small grin traced his lips, though there was a sadness in the vampire’s eyes. He could see it so clearly, so vividly…
“Though he was a soviet soldier, I...I was so entranced. I’ve never met another man with as much beauty as he…” Garridan realized he was trailing off, losing focus and shook his head, bringing his knees closer to his body.
“...we fell in love. But as the war...it raged on, and...I...we both knew that I...I couldn’t bear the thought of losing him, and neither him me...one night, he took me away from my hometown...and he made me into a vampire, just like him.” Thinking of that night, Garridan knew that despite his regrets, such a decision he wouldn’t have traded for the world.
“He took me somewhere in the nearby mountains, and we went underground...he was so tender with me, he was…sunk his fangs into my neck, drained me of my blood and in return offered me his...and then the next night I awoke--a vampire.”
Tumblr media
“You most definitely need to get some snacks! As good as your tea is I need my munchies” she made herself comfy with her back now leaning against the gravestone she was sitting by. Devoting her full attention onto the story that her friend was willing to tell her. Many looks crossed her face as he told his tale from shock, amazement, and finally joy. “Ohhhh that’s so sweet I can see you really adored him” but her smile turned into a frown as it dawned on her that Garridan was alone and Victor didn’t seem to be in his life. “But....where is he now?”

@galaeus said:  rough touch (thg!tony) 18. my muse clutches their hand tightly around your muse’s mouth to silence them.
The boom of a cannon sounding was rivalled by a crack of lightening striking the large tree that seemed to loom high in the circular arena, as though it tried to carve itself out as the biggest threat in a place where he had already almost lost count of how many threats had been encountered thus far.
His face is dirtied by dried blood -- none of it his own, or that of their fellow tributes. The rain that had lashed down on him had felt like a relief after the fog, until he realised the heaviness was due to the fact it belted blood.
( What or who’s was a horrific notion he didn’t have time to dwell on, which was the only reprieve of the Games. )
Their feet had barely touched the sand of the beach before they had been forced to retreat back into the forest line by snarling fangs and an impossibly large imposing figure stalking the shoreline waiting for their next victims -- no one could say Enobaria and Brutus didn’t thrive in a bloodbath setting.
Fallen tree branches rustled beneath their feet as they moved in a fast pace, so much so it had taken him a second to realise that the sounds weren’t stemming from them solely.
Tumblr media
His first mistake had been looking back, brown eyes meeting brown eyes as the District 2 once victor sought to utilise her knife skills and take him out from a distance. It was an easy shot too -- Tony barely had time to brace himself for the knife edge that barrelled through the air towards the soft of his throat.
In this reality, a quick death from a Career was a mercy.
                                                       The blow never came.
Instead, the knife was stopped by what seemed to be a phantom wall, completely transparent and separating Tony and Echo from Brutus and Enobaria -- leaving the latter pair as perplexed as he was.
That’s when Tony realised he could hear his heart beating in his ears. Not the scream of genetically modified monkeys looking to tear flesh from bone, not the crack of thunder, not the heavy patter of blood rain or the eerie low whistle of poisonous fog rolling in on the horizon.
                                                  He could hear himself think.
                                                           It was silent.
That alone made his heart rate increase in a way the knife he thought would send him to his maker didn’t, causing him to turn on his feels in a half scurry so fast he nearly tripped over a jagged rock that lay innocently on the ground.
That’s when it started. Booming and cruel, a sick symphony that came with the flap of wings.
                                                           Jabberjays.
The scream that they sang was one known to him and detrimental to her -- his fallen tribute, her dead younger sister, a scream so loud and gained so cruelly it had rumbled through all of the districts in her games.
( Not even moonshine had been able to lull him to a dead sleep that would enable him to unhear it. )
The sound of the squawks was louder than he ever could be, their intention he’s sure, and when he finally reaches her he can only shout deafened reassurances that fell short of the magnified sound.
The barrier wasn’t for protection, it was to cage them in.
Letting go of his hold on her upper arm, all Tony could think to do was cover her mouth harshly with his hand, forcing her to look at him and not give the Capitol in the peanut gallery in the comfort of their homes what they want.
“It’s not Davis, look at me, it’s not her.”
Tony could keep it together for the both of them -- then the noise that reached his eardrums changed, morphed into the same sound with a different octave. He could no longer identify Davis’ screams, now he was plagued by Echo’s.

Seven Reasons to Celebrate Lon Chaney by Pablo Kjolseth
As a Colorado native, I can say that Lon Chaney is a local hero. Born in 1883 on April 1 in Colorado Springs, he was the son of deaf mutes. It’s not an exaggeration to say that he gave his life to his craft, as he endured countless agonies that distorted and crippled his body in dangerous ways to achieve macabre, ghastly, haunting and grotesque effects that still astound to this day. Chaney got involved with the stage at the age of 11, working first as a prop hand, then comedian, dancer, actor, stage manager and even selling tickets at vaudeville houses around the Southwest. From 1913 through 1919, he found work in the movies, mainly as an extra. His work over the next two decades would go on to cement his status as one of cinema’s most iconic actors. If you had to give yourself one film a day over the course of one week to appreciate his genius, below are seven titles that celebrate the “Man of a Thousand Faces.”
Tumblr media
Wallace Worsley’s THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME (’23) was Universal studio’s biggest money maker that year. Based on Victor Hugo’s tale, Chaney’s portrayal of Quasimodo would launch his career. Elaborately reconstructed Parisian street sets and big mob scenes all added to the excitement, but at the center was Chaney’s physical transformation assisted by a breastplate attached to shoulder-pads; a hump made of rubber weighing 70 pounds, which was attached to more pads in the back; and a light leather harness that connected the breastplate and shoulder-pads in such a way that Cheney was hobbled throughout and unable to stand erect. Add a skintight flesh-colored rubber suit, affixed with animal hair, mortician’s wax, fang-like teeth in a painful mouth device that kept him from closing his mouth and, voila, the master of disguises was ready to horrify a nation.
Between THE PHANTOM CARRIAGE (’21) and THE WIND (’28), to name two favorite films of mine, the amazing Victor Sjöström directed HE WHO GETS SLAPPED (’24). This was the first production for the newly formed MGM and is the first feature to use the roaring Leo the Lion logo. Anyone who has ever been humiliated by their peers will have lots to dig into here. Bonus: a young Norma Shearer.
Tumblr media
Rupert Julian’s THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (’25) was based on a novel published in 1911 written by Gaston Leroux. Set in the Paris Opera House, which had been finished by 1879, Leroux claimed his novel was based on the true story of a ghost that inhabited the honeycombed corridors below the main stage. Leroux was a former theater critic, which made him well aware of the building’s history, including a fatal chandelier accident from 1896.
Before the controversy of FREAKS (’32) or his big success with DRACULA (’31), Tod Browning made two exceptional films starring Lon Chaney: THE UNHOLY THREE (’25) and LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT (’27). The former would be remade five years later as a “talkie” by director Jack Conway and also starred Chaney in what would be his only sound film as well as his last film. The latter would become one of the most celebrated lost films of all time. The last known copy of LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT was destroyed in a 1965 MGM vault fire. In 2002 a 47-minute-long reconstruction (22 minutes shy of the original 69-minute-long print) was put together using the original script and film stills. This is the version also available to FilmStruck viewers.
Tumblr media
Given his early death and the lost films, it seems appropriate to end with one more tragic clown saga: Herbert Brenon’s LAUGH, CLOWN, LAUGH (’28). The original source material was a 1919 play by Fausto Maria called Ridi, Pagliaccio. LAUGH, CLOWN, LAUGH has been cited as Lon Chaney’s favorite role, and the song with the same name, which was often played to audiences before screenings of the movie, rose to the #1 spot on the 1928 hit parade and was played at his funeral.

WIP Tag
Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous.
now i dont have a WIP folder, per se, just WIPs in general, if that makes sense. I’ve decided to separate them into different categories, fanfic and original, and for fanfic i’ve organized it by fandom alphabetically. let’s go.

CRIMINAL MINDS
Untitled [spencer reid x oc]: this is an idea i’ve had for a while that im finally getting around to writing. i made a plot bunny post for it here. basically family murdered, blame put on the largely black and brown vodou community, the team gets a mambo/manbo (depending on which term u like) to help and ooooh boy spencer falls hard and fast.

CHART 2021 Architecture Competition
CHART 2021 Architecture Competition Finalists, Leverage by Rumgehør, Copenhagen Architecture Design Contest
CHART 2021 Architecture Competition Finalists News
Nordic Architecture Design Contest News – pavilions to house gastronomy, media and artistic partners
post updated 27 August 2021
CHART 2021 Architecture Competition Winner
CHART is delighted to announce that Leverage designed by Danish studio Rumgehør is the winner of the 2021 CHART Architecture competition. The winning team was selected from five finalists who each designed and created a temporary pavilion in response to the theme of Social Architecture. The finalists presented new ideas on how architecture can be a powerful tool for creating collective spatial experiences. After a year of social distancing, the finalists’ pavilion designs explore ways to encourage people to come together again and share common physical experiences.
Leverage design by Rumgehør, Denmark:
Designed by the Danish studio Rumgehør, made up of Rasmus R.B. Maabjerg, Nikolaj Noe, and Victor Tambo, Leverage investigates the perfect leverage between social interactions and temporary architecture. The playful and experimental pavilion uses moveable dunnage bags to create a light and futuristic structure, and provides users with the ability to reorganise the 16m2 space in many ways, and create intimate spaces of all kinds.
The winner was selected by an international jury of architects including: Bjarke Ingels (BIG); Shohei Shigematsu (OMA); David Zahle (BIG); designer Sabine Marcelis; director of OPEN HOUSE, Simon Lamunière (CH); and artist, Nina Beier (DK). The pavilions are on show in the courtyards of Kunsthal Charlottenborg during this year’s edition of CHART (26 – 29 Aug 2021).
The chairman of the jury Bjarke Ingels said: “The level of quality this year is extremely high, both creatively and in terms of execution,” and complimented Leverage’s playful use of dunnage bags as primary material meaning that “the entire pavilion weighs less than 50 kilos – you can crumble it together, put it in a suitcase and take it with you.”

Finalists of CHART Architecture 2021 Talent Competition Announced
Copenhagen, June 2021 – Relax under a freshly grown field of microgreens, listen to sounds from suspended ventilation ducts, and create your own space with industrial dunnage bags. The finalists for this year’s CHART Architecture competition have been selected for the new and creative ways they investigate creating social and sensory experiences.
CHART unveils the five finalist teams chosen to realise their design for a temporary pavilion in the historic Charlottenborg courtyards in Copenhagen during this year’s CHART (26 – 29 August 2021). The finalists were selected by an international jury of architects including: Bjarke Ingels (BIG); Shohei Shigematsu (OMA); David Zahle (BIG); designer Sabine Marcelis; director of OPEN HOUSE, Simon Lamunière; and artist, Nina Beier. A total of 46 proposals were submitted by young creative talents representing 28 nationalities.
Based on this year’s theme of Social Architecture, each of the five finalist teams have presented new ideas on how architecture can be a powerful tool for creating collective spatial experiences. After a year of social distancing, the finalists’ pavilion designs explore ways to come together again and to share social experiences.
ʺWe are excited to see how new collaborations emerge across architecture, design, and art in the five finalist projects selected by our jury. With CHART Architecture we invite young talents to explore new crossovers and frontiers of architecture and I look forward to presenting the unexpected architectural and social installations as we gather our audiences of international and regional guests in Copenhagen this August,” says Nanna Hjortenberg, Director of CHART.
The five pavilions will be installed in the courtyards of Charlottenborg in Copenhagen during CHART, 26-29 August, where they will also serve as bars, restaurants, stages, and social spaces.
This year, the bar and food partners include a selection of Copenhagen’s gastronomic entrepreneurs such as the innovative craft distillery, Copenhagen Distillery; the Danish, social-oriented brewing company, People Like Us; the organic burger bar Gasoline Grill, and Copenhagen’s first oyster bar, Rouge Oysters.
FIELD by Torsten Sherwood and Benedicte Brun: images courtesy of designers
A restaurant placed under a freshly grown field of microgreens. An experience that blends food and architecture to trigger all your senses. This is the idea behind FIELD. Interdisciplinary designer and architect, Torsten Sherwood, and MA in Economics and International Management, Benedicte Brun, have experimented with alternative materials to test how architecture combined with a culinary material can invite people to socialise.
CURTAIN CALL by Rosita Kær, Nina Højholdt, Thomas Christensen, Sam Collins, and Lauda Vargas:
CURTAIN CALL is an opening of the home to the public. Artist/maker, interactive designers, and architects/spatial practitioners Rosita Kær, Nina Højholdt, Thomas Christensen, Sam Collins, and Lauda Vargas have created an architectural and programmatic framework of curtain walls made of reused textiles. The pavilion provides an ever-changing and adaptable space to bring people together and engage in dialogue, music, food, and workshops.
Leverage by Rumgehør:
Leverage is a playful and experimental pavilion using dunnage bags to create a light and futuristic structure. The Danish studio Rumgehør, made up of Rasmus R.B. Maabjerg, Nikolaj Noe, and Victor Tambo, have created a pavilion which investigates the perfect leverage between social interactions and temporary architecture. The moveable dunnage-bags provide users with the ability to reorganise the 16m2 in many ways and create intimate spaces of all kinds.
OM by guilt.studio:
The intention with OM (Romanian for BEING) is to stimulate curiosity. Diana Claudia Mot, Marius Mihai Ardelean, Claudia Lavinia Cimpan, and Mihkel Pajuste, who make up guilt.studio, have created a pavilion of suspended aluminium ventilation ducts. The interaction between the tall structural elements creates unexpected, sensory experiences. The wind becomes sound, voices are echoed, rain is redirected, and light is reflected.
Situated Exterior by Kathrine Birk, Anja Fange, and Joe Mckenzie:
Situated Exterior is created from a common strong appreciation of materiality and the human scale experience of architecture. The team consists of Kathrine Birk, Anja Fange, and Joe Mckenzie, who share a background in both architecture and design. Using architecture as the anchor for our urban cultures, the pavilion attempts to explore how we attach these cultures to physical forms through the skeletal reconstruction of Charlottenborg’s facades.
CHART Architecture 2021
CHART Architecture is an open 72-hour competition inviting graduate students or newly graduated architects, designers, and artists from across the Nordic region to present a proposal for a temporary pavilion.
The 7th edition of CHART Architecture took place in Spring 2021. Participants were challenged to explore the idea of Social Architecture and the crossovers between art, design and architecture. An international jury selected five finalists who will be given the opportunity to realise and display their projects in the courtyards of Charlottenborg in Copenhagen during CHART 2021.
This year’s architecture jury consists of founder and partner at BIG, Bjarke Ingels (DK); partner at BIG, David Zahle (DK); partner at OMA, Shohei Shigematsu (JP); designer, Sabine Marcelis (NL); Director of OPEN HOUSE in Geneva, Simon Lamunière (CH); and artist, Nina Beier (DK).
CHART Architecture 2021 is made possible in collaboration with CAFx, Arup, and FRAME, and with support from the charitable association Realdania, The Dreyer Foundation, Danish Arts Foundation, Copenhagen Municipality, and FOSS.

Victor and Adam: NaNoWriMo Day 2
Making his way to the east side of the castle. The door to the ruins looked no different to any other in the castle and anyone would think opening it would lead to another room. In a way it did lead into the dilapidated remains of a large room. A room with no ceiling and only one wall. As Adam stepped through the door he felt a shiver of excitement. Entering the ruins this way always felt like entering another world. Like in that film he’d seen the other week. Though the door in that film was a lot more impressive. Adam closed the door behind him and took a deep breath. He liked being outside at night, when it was hard to see, and by extension to be seen, and hardly anyone was about. When he was living on the streets he’d learnt it was best to only move about during the night. Keeping himself hidden when the streets were busy. Not that he liked thinking about those days. He hadn’t known much about the world and people didn’t seem to like that. They didn’t seem to like him. Monster they’d called him. Though Adam couldn’t see how he was a monster. He had no fangs, no horns, he wasn’t covered in fur or scales. Sure he was bigger than most kids his age and no one had skin like his but those seemed small things to get upset over. Well there’s no point worrying about the past, he thought as he picked his way over some stones embedded in the floor.
‘The past is to be learned from not lived in.’ that was one of Igor’s mottos and one Adam liked to repeat to himself. Eventually the ground beneath him became soft grass and Adam stood for a moment wondering which way to head next. He could head towards the pond and check for frogs and toads. Or he could see if the mice had found the food he’d left for them in the tower. There was also the one part of the ruins he’d never explored. It was probably the least damaged part of the ruins with all four walls still standing. Though one wall was noticeably shorter than the others and there was no sign of a roof anywhere. The door had long since disappeared leaving an empty stone archway as the only entrance. For some reason that one part gave him the creeps, which naturally made him all the more eager to explore. And yet… No not tonight he thought as he headed for the pond. The pond wasn’t really a pond. More a pile of stones that lay in such a way whenever it rained they’d trap the water. Just as Adam was about to bend down to check under an old plant pot he’d put out for the frogs to hid under he froze. At first he was unsure why he froze. Then he heard it again. Those soft squelching sound of someone walking across mud that was almost dry but not quite. It’s probably just Igor or maybe dad. But his instincts and his hammering heart told him it wasn’t. That he should stay still, stay invisible. People notice you more when you move. Especially in the dark. Besides, he thought, Victor never went to the ruins, and Igor couldn’t move anywhere near as fast as these footsteps. Especially on this kind of terrain. Straining to see if he could hear more Adam realised the footsteps were now making their way across something solid. Realising whoever it was wouldn’t be able to see him from where they were Adam turned round and crept towards the one place he never wanted to go. His body was screaming he should head back inside. But he knew if he did his curiosity and regret would keep him awake all night. Taking care not to stay out of view of the archway he peered round the side listening. He could still hear those footsteps and a muttering voice that seemed to be of changing clarity. He’s pacing, Adam thought. Straining to hear what the man was saying Adam caught only glimpses of what was being said. ‘Clever. Very clever.’ ‘Of course I should have…’ ‘…Not on my own of course, but perhaps….’ Adam frowned. What on earth was going on? Who was this guy. He’d seen plenty of old homeless guys who wandered around muttering nonsense to themselves before. But why would one make the effort to walk all the way up the hill to wander around the ruins attached to a castle everyone knew was occupied. As he leaned further round the corner in hope of hearing more Adam suddenly felt a stone he’d been pressing his hand against begin to shift. Oh no! he thought realising he’d been leaning to hard on the wall. No, no, no. He tried to grab the stone but too late it had already popped out the other side and though he couldn’t see it he knew it was heading for the ground. Hoping as hard as he could the stranger hadn’t seen anything yet giving him at least a couple of seconds Adam made a break for it racing back inside as fast as he could. Which turned out to be faster than he realised. Once inside he didn’t stop running until he was on the second floor where he nearly crashed into Victor. ‘What the hell is going on!?’ he demanded as soon as he’d recovered from the shock of nearly being run over. ‘There was. Someone in the ruins. A man.’ Adam gasped. He’d forgotten how much running could hurt. Victor frowned at him. ‘And why would anyone be bothering with that dump?’ ‘I don’t know but they were muttering something to themselves and…’ Victor held up a hand to silence him. ‘That’s enough. I don’t have time to play games with you. No one would bother coming all the way up here just to wander around some piles of stone.’ ‘I know that’s why I’m worried. Something doesn’t feel right.’ ‘I said that’s enough.’ ‘But da…’ Adam stopped himself realising his mistake. ‘Victor there really was someone there.’ Victor just shook his head at him. ‘Maybe you should go to bed. Or at least stay in your room for the rest of the night.’ For a moment the two just stood neither moving. ‘Okay let me rephrase that. You will go to your room and you will stay there.’ Realising there would be no reasoning with him Adam headed to his room. This time making no effort to not slam the door. There was something almost satisfying about watching the wood shatter and hearing the snapping sound as it did. Though he’d probably be in trouble the next day he couldn’t really care less at the moment. He doesn’t want to be my dad but he has no problem punishing me like one, he fumed. Kicking off his shoes he lay down on the bed and stared at the ceiling. What am I doing wrong? He thought. Igor said he hadn’t done anything wrong. Well he knew that wasn’t entirely true. Everyone did things wrong. That was human nature. And Adam had done something very very wrong. The kind of wrong you couldn’t take back. But Victor had hated him before that. From the moment he’d first, woken up, been born, existed? He wasn’t sure what the right phrase was. Adam’s first memory was of seeing his fathers face and seeing an expression of what? Fear, loathing, shock? Maybe a little bit of wonder. Thought that may have been wishful thinking on his part. Though he didn’t know what those things were at the time he knew they made him feel bad. Sighing he rolled over and stared at the open doorway to his room his mind running through everything that had happened. Not just tonight but in his whole life. It wasn’t a very long list but it wasn’t a pleasant one either. Eventually exhaustion go the better of him and he closed his eyes and fell asleep.
Victor
A loud knocking on the door interrupted Victor from his reading. At first he thought to ignore it, Igor would deal with whoever it was. Then he remembered he had gone into town to buy a replacement door for Adam’s room. Adam had gone with him, offering to help with any heavy lifting so Victor was completely alone in the house. Well except for the house keeper but she had a rule against answering doors of homes she worked in. Slowly and reluctantly, half hoping whoever it was would give up before he reached the door Victor stood up and made his way to the front door. The knocking whoever never ceased until Victor yanked it away from the fist the pounded at it so incessantly. ‘Yes, can I hel… Oh it’s you.’ His ghost of a polite smile disappeared as soon as he saw he stood on his doorstep. Ramaker, as he always insisted on being called by his last name by everyone, even his own parents. Was a pleasant looking man, a little on the short side with a plump freckled face and strawberry blonde hair which curled a little at the base of his neck. But looks could be deceiving and Victor did not find him pleasant company. In fact no one really did, his school nick name being rat maker due to his nature. Though once Victor had called this man his friend it had less to due with one liking the other, in fact neither man had ever thought very highly of the other, and more to do with the fact they thought all their other classmates too far bellow them to even bother with. ‘Good to see you to Victor,’ Ramaker chuckled. ‘You seem like you weren’t expecting me.’ ‘I mistook you for an intelligent man.’ ‘Ah so you do make mistakes.’ Victor glowered at him. ‘I still stand by what I said.’

Ethereum Classic suffers 51% attack twice in five days
The Ethereum Classic (ETC) blockchain has experienced a second 51% attack in a week. This is not normal for a blockchain that is in top 25 cryptocurrencies, at the time of writing.
What is a 51% attack?
A 51% attack is an attack on a Cryptocurrency’s blockchain by a group of miners or other bad elements, controlling more than 50% of the network’s mining hash rate.
The attackers prevent new transactions from gaining confirmations, allowing them to halt payments between some or all users. They would also be able to reverse transactions that were completed while they were in control of the network, meaning they could double-spend coins.
Attackers would almost certainly not be able to create new coins or alter old blocks. It only affects those blocks when the 51% attack occurs. Remember, it is not easy to attack a big network and requires a lot of resources and spending. A 51% attack would not destroy blockchain based digital currency fully.
What is Ethereum DAO?
The Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) was a complex smart contract that was going to revolutionize Ethereum forever. Building a decentralized venture capital fund that will fund all future DAPPS made in the eco-system is a revolutionary idea.
It is a governance token. You can think of Maker (MKR) governance token that has control over DAI and DSR in the current world scenario.
If you wanted to have any say in the direction DAPPS that would get funded, then you would have to buy DAO Token exchanged for Ether. The DAO tokens were indicators that you are now officially part of the DAO system.
The potential of the DAO and the flexibility, control, and complete transparency that it offered was unprecedented; people fought to get their share of the pie. Within 28 days of its formation, it accumulated over $150 million worth of ether in a public crowd sale. It was 14% of all ether tokens minted at that time.
How Ethereum Classic came into existence?
To opt-out of the DAO,  an exit door was created called the Split Function. You will get back the ether (ETH) you have invested or create your own Child DAO (Think of Reddit and subreddits). Not all can be that easy right? Yes, there is a catch.
There was one condition in the contract that you need to hold on to your ether for 28 days before you could spend them, after splitting off from the DAO.
On 17th June 2016, someone exploited this loophole in the DAO and siphoned away one ($50 million dollars) third of the DAO’s funds. The loophole that the hackers discovered was pretty straightforward in hindsight.
Ethereum decided to hard fork and refund the addresses that lost funds to DAO hack. People who were against hard fork refused to change to the new blockchain and decided to remain in the old blockchain christening it “Ethereum Classic” or “ETC”.
First 51% attack on August 1
Ethereum Classic uses Proof of Work to mine its blocks and include transactions.
According to analysis from Yaz Khoury, the potential attack took place in the early hours of August 1 when someone mined 3,693 extra blocks on the ETC blockchain.
Decrypt notes, Yaz suggested that they could have been generated when a rogue miner lost internet access for several hours while continuing to mine. Internet access is required to receive information about previous blocks in the chain, but miners are able to continue to generate invalid blocks even without this information.
According to blockchain data company Bitquery, 807,260 ETC (worth about $5.6 million) was double spent. Victor Fang, CEO of Blockchain Ecosystem Intelligence Anchain.ai, confirmed that the attacker address belongs to the OKEx exchange.
Second 51% Attack in a Span of Five Days
Bitfly on Twitter says the second attack occurred on Thursday morning. Binance’s alert system also quickly caught the attack. As a result, both Bitfly and Binance have halted ETC payouts, withdrawals and deposits.
A new chain reorg of 4,000+ blocks has occurred on @eth_classic $ETC at block 10935622.
Our alert system caught this immediately and automatically halted withdrawals and deposits.
It appears to be a follow up 51% attack.
We will update you as things unfold.
— Binance (@binance) August 6, 2020
Today’s attack is the second 51% attack on ETC in just five days. The value of today’s attack is not immediately apparent. It will come out in a few days once the blockchain analytics firms dig in further.
ETC should just switch to proof of stake. Even given its risk-averse culture, at this point making the jump seems lower-risk than not making it.
— vitalik.eth (@VitalikButerin) August 6, 2020
I totally agree with Vitalik after so many proof of work 51% attack. Bitcoin can afford to be on proof of work with its massive network but other smaller chains can be attacked with manipulation from miners. It is better to adopt Proof of Stake for smaller chains.
Parting Thoughts
While attacks against more well defended blockchain are far less likely than the one potentially made against ETC, the event and subsequent investigation serve as a potent reminder that every system, however centralized or decentralized a blockchain is, has a weak point.
Blockchains are still in its early stages. DYOR before investing.

Summary: The Georgetown Morgue is Seattle’s scariest haunted house. In fact, according to the haunted house marketing company American Haunts, it’s the best haunt in the entire Pacific Northwest. Their crew of engineers, welders, and designers spend all year completely redesigning the haunt. The actors work long hours to get into costume and perfect their characters. When people go through a haunted house, they’re not thinking about the artistry or the engineering, they’re mostly just focused on getting through in one piece.
Captions: 1) Owner Scott Kolling stands in the Georgetown Morgue dressing room on Friday, October 27 after all the actors have taken their positions in the haunted house. For Kolling haunting is a family business. His father was designed haunted houses in the 70′s and 80′s, he’s been designing haunted houses professionally for 23 years, and now his 21-year-old son is managing a haunted house. “People don’t realize this is really like a theater act,” Kolling said. “I think people kind of take it for granted. We wanted to be able to establish a place here in Seattle, to have a landmark, where people know they can come back to get scared year after year.”
2) An actor waits for his base layer of face paint to dry before getting his intricate scary clown makeup. He’s the last clown you come across before the exit and wields a loud, revving chainsaw. “We love having the chainsaw at the end because it really gets people screaming and running out the back exit,” Kolling said.
3) A handheld electric rod sprays sparks when it comes in contact with the chain-link fence. The actors here use this to their advantage in the dark, claustrophobic area where people have to feel their way through hanging body bags.
4) Brianne Goree enjoys a lollipop before getting into makeup. “It’s the only time I can scream in someone’s fact and get away with it,” Goree said. “It’s funny when the high school girls come through with their boyfriends because the boyfriends will just hide and cower behind their girlfriends.”
5) Professional acrylic fang maker Victor Moray drills a custom fang for one of the security guards at the Georgetown Morgue. Moray used to be a dental lab technician, but after a bad relationship with his ex-marine boss, he started making custom fangs and has been for the last 28 years.
6) Cast coordinator Cara Carman shows another actor a funny meme on her phone. Carman has worked with the Georgetown Morgue for seven years and has always been a big fan of Kolling’s haunts. She’s one of the few year-round employees and is usually the first one to get into makeup. “Haunting is such a sweet release,” Carman said. “Sometimes I do such crazy shit during the haunting and people get so freaked out that I have to go in the back and just laugh.”
7) Head makeup artist Rachelle puts the final touches on the evil doctor’s ghoulish face paint. Every afternoon before the haunted house opens, the three person makeup team completely transforms the cast of 30 people into zombies, clowns, aliens, or whatever scary character they want to be that day.
8) An actor ties on his bandana before heading downstairs to rev his chainsaw at the unsuspecting line of patrons.
9) Chad Meade gets a coating of fake blood before heading down to his post at the door. One a night like this, he might funnel 4,000 people into the haunted house over the six hour period. He likes working at the door because it allows him to talk more personally with the patrons and get them psyched out before they even step foot inside. “I love this job,” Meade said. “What’s not to like, I get paid to be an absolute asshole to people and they love it.”
10) Two actors take a selfie before while waiting for the haunted house to open. The clown on stilts is one of the outside actors who interacts with the crowd as they wait in line.

the process is that you go to meet Victor at a place he has set up to make fangs that day. he used to have semi regular hours working out of Gargoyles in the U District (and may still, you'd have to call them) and he also appeared at most local conventions and made fangs out of his hotel room. he takes about three clients at a time and has a system where one client will be waiting for their resin to cure while he works on the next person. he keeps up a jovial patter the whole time, like someone's slightly inappropriate uncle (he's not creepy he's just a goof).
there's a binder with pictures in it where you can pick which style of fangs you want. he can do a full set of shark teeth, double canines like the Interview movie, upper + lower canines, or just the basic set of uppers (most common). more teeth = more expensive, base price is $65 according to the gargoyles link.
he has to match your tooth color, fit your fangs onto your teeth, wait for the resin to cure, and then he will use a dental drill to file the fangs down smooth and take off all the extra resin, and make them as comfortable for your bite as he can. the fangs will interfere with your normal teeth bite alignment. the drill never touches your teeth but he does have to put his fingers in your mouth a bit. this is uncomfortable and the resin smells bad but it's tolerable and he has never ever made me feel uncomfortable about contact or physical proximity to him (obviously you have to sit close). on the inside of the right fang he puts a dot of red coloring so you know which fang is which. he will ask you how they feel and if there are any snags or pointy bits, and also ask if you would like the fangs to be sharp or if you would like him to file down the tips a little. if you leave them sharp they will poke the inside of your mouth and hurt until you grow some protective calluses (I always leave them sharp because I'm a psychopath)
the fangs have FULL warranty and free repairs. if anything goes wrong with them he will fix them or remake them free of charge. he is a true craftsman
the last time I got fangs from him was about six years ago so this information is not current. Victor is an old school dude and afaik does not do business on Etsy or anything, he's almost entirely word of mouth and I think maybe slightly on Facebook but I'm not sure.
he's very hard to Google because apparently now there's a tech guy named Victor Fang lol
anyway I'll try to post pics later, the fangs really are exceptional and who knows how long he's going to be making them. I think he's got to be approaching 60 years old now. I wonder if he ever takes on apprentices
EDIT: IMPORTANT: you WILL have a lisp until you have practiced speaking with your fangs in for a few hours!!! do not plan to wear your fangs anywhere serious and talk to people with them in until you have worn them at home long enough to fix your lisp lol
edit 2: you can't do any of this remotely, it has to be done in person. sorry to all non Seattle goths, it's just a factor of them being custom fit and custom color matched to your actual teeth
