I have to wonder why the showrunners decided on Giancarlo's character being called Stan Edgar instead of James Stillwell? I know the show is going for a different approach to the comics and that's honestly a good call because the comics are mostly poorly written edgelord crap. But James Stillwell was a good character and it's obvious Stan Edgar is an adaptation of him.
Madeline Stillwell never felt like an adaptation of James Stillwell to me, she has the last name but other than that and being in the same position at Vought the personality doesn't remind me of him at all. She's way too close to Homelander and is also scared of him.
James Stillwell was not scared of him at all and only viewed him as a bad product just like Stan does.
The other cases of gender swap are interesting because to me Grace Mallory feels very much like Greg Mallory from the comics with the only difference being their gender. And Victoria Neuman is the inverse of how Stillwell was adapted because Victoria is a likeable and intelligent secret Superhuman Politician. Vic the Veep was just a dumbass Human politician clearly designed as a fictionalised version of George W. Bush lol.

Remember when in The Boys Comics when Vought installs Vic the Veep as the vice presidential pick with the plan being president Dakota Bob dying in his first term so Vought can functionally take power for their own goals?
Well guess what the same thing is literally fucking happening right now in real life but with JD Vance and the 78 year old Trump who is clearly in poor health.
Vance will be waiting to invoke the 25th amendment and take control of the presidency at the first possible moment. Then his handlers will enact project 2025. Vote like your freedom depends on it because it does.

So what were they actually trying to do?
Convenient date.

Glad she kicked him out
holy shit, Homelander flashbacks
He’s just dead behind the eyes
Good priorities.
You mean the events of Gen V?
oooh I think like half of those are from the comics
Where’s Redlands?
love that the name Hyperion is a Disney thing and used for a sexy lady here
You are proving his point
Making you miss Starlight and Maeve, huh?
“the Jew section”
oh so they were trying to kill Neuman.
So what do you need to make it stronger?
I hate her already

holy shit he’s in regular clothes
I want to know what’s in her library
why avoid the term “crisis”
omg “Nazi bae”
I would die for Sage
James Patterson catching strays
omg healthy communication I love it
Pete Davidson catching strays too
Sacrifice?
Okay who are those other two guys
Is that a good idea?
Oh yeah, protect Colin
Uh-oh
I see, the old Ryan is still in there somewhere
Are they at all weirded out by the fact that Noir can talk now?
holy shit it’s Tilda Swinton
aw Hughie
oh it’s his mom!
I see, it’s ghost Becca

Season 3 endgame & Homelander speculation
(includes comics spoilers)
So, thanks to observations by @homielander and @vought-thot, I’ve got some thoughts on where Homelander’s arc this season might be leading. It’s not just him going craaazy, but trying to evolve into his final form.
Homelander has always been desperately seeking not only power, but family and purpose, and I think by the end of this season, he might have found both.
Stormfront started him on that path, telling him he’ll be the “one to lead us”... but her Aryan army bullshit was a serious boner killer, and also she killed herself on his birthday, which is extremely inconsiderate, so fuck her.
Does Homelander want to be Jesus? The perfect god who died for the pathetic humans who failed to appreciate him? Hellll no. But now he’s reading up on MLK, airing his grievances on live TV... and he’s got a new idea.
You know what’s better than Jesus? Supe Jesus.
Or, y’know, basically Magneto.
When he tells Butcher they share a destiny, he’s not just prepping for a showdown between the two of them, but between Supes and Humans. Shock and awe, blood and bone. And in the end, only one of them left standing.
He’s starting to reach out and make alliances, helping other powerful supes throw off the “shackles” of their human overlords -- starting with Victoria Neuman, who he seems to have respect/understanding for due to their similarly traumatic upbringing, and might view as a surrogate half-sister via Stan Edgar. In the comics, "Vic the Veep” was Vought’s plant in the US government. In the Boys TV, it’s likely Victoria will end up running for president against Robert Singer or as his VP, and be the political arm of the Supe Uprising.
Who else might join his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants Family of Supercool Supes?
Well, A-Train and the Deep are the foot soldiers, whom he pits against each other to ensure their loyalty. You gotta have pawns.
We’ve got Soldier Boy, the Homelander-before-Homelander, and a big question mark at this point. But we know he disappeared around the time Homelander was created, and that Vought could’ve used his DNA to make a replacement, which would make him Homelander’s biodad. With Soldier Boy comes Crimson Countess, and there’s also the Payback connection to Black Noir.
And then there’s Ryan. Butcher left him hurt and rejected, which makes it the perfect time for Homelander to swoop in and sweep him back into his new family. He has a perfect pitch at this point: humans will always fear you, try to use and control you. You can never trust them, the only family you have is your people. Mallory isn’t likely to survive this encounter.
And there are many more supes with a lot of trauma, resentment and power on their hands. Like the supes of Sage Grove Center and Red River.
Hey, maybe Homelander could finally make peace with his ex-nemesis, little teleporting Teddy Stillwell.
What do you think?

much to process about the finale. too much. still working through it in fact.
becca was wasted so bad man, but i just. didn’t trust them to keep her alive so i’ve been anticipating her death since she showed up basically and knew it was a near certainty she wouldn’t make it past this finale. but it was still a waste of a character and a waste of what they could have done and almost what they were trying to do. they were really on to something when they decided to reveal she was not only alive, but deliberately refusing butcher’s help bc she knew she never really saved him (but maybe she did!!! regardless--), only to continue leveraging the story on her rape and the ultimately her fridging, after intially choosing to subvert that. at the end of the day she still only existed for butcher and for now, ryan, but it’s still not much better than it would have been had they killed her from the get go? don’t get me wrong, i still am glad they didn’t, and i appreciate her addition into the story and i still enjoyed it on a baseline level, but the way this show started off so aware of what they were doing, only to fall into the same trap? i was HOPING for better. i didn’t expect it, mind you, but i was hoping and im still disappointed that they didn’t.
that being said im glad i was wrong about butcher going off the rails and killing ryan, though there was a moment there when i really thought he’d try to do it. becca’s impact is that she did manage to make a difference in butcher’s violence and anger and she (hopefully) saved her son from inheriting both his and homelander’s issues.
the church of the collective does seem to have been relatively pointless in the long run. we know stormfront kept all her n*zi memoriabillia so they could have found that information through other means, than to waste a good chunk of screen time that would have been more useful going to other characters on this shoe-horned scientology bit though i will cede that it was so satisfying watching the deep completely fail once more.
and the last bit that i can’t wrap my head around entirely is the neuman reveal. i can’t believe it didn’t occur to me that she might be a play on vic the veep from the comics, but she really bares no resemblance in any way that i can recall, unless there are some more massive reveals to change her role up entirely next season. she’s even more recreated than stillwell was. i’m not necessarily mad at THAT part. but i’m a little disappointed they couldn’t give us just, one public person who isn’t a complete scumbag, working to actually better the world. the show could use at least one figure like that. i think her addition this season was something that brought a lot of hope to the story, and definitely resonated with real-world context, so to have, once agian, that be steeped in ~hidden agendas~ is almost exhausting.
but i did enjoy the trajectory of the finale. i can’t recall being that physically tense for an hour of tv in a long time. the kimiko and frenchie stuff was appropriately moving, maeve saving the day TWICE and choosing to fight the fight was a great pay off, the scene where they all beat on stormfront was wildly enjoyable, butcher leaning into his better nature and being a father figure if only for 5 mintues made me incredibly emo, mm finally getting to see his daughter, addressing hughie’s issues with attaching himself to others and trying to forge his own way....all very good and well earned payoffs as a viewer imo.

Rewatching veep s2e4 (The Vic Allen Dinner). I love how Dan adds “I’m like you!” at the end of his desperate pitch to Kent, who was looking for someone to join his Dream Metric team
Lol, I love how this statement isn’t *really* true, but is a sign of Dan’s profound desire to move up in the Hughes administration. His relationships with Ben and Kent were really interesting from a character perspective...he craves their status and influence within Washington, but he’s also borderline intimidated by them (more so Ben) and, like, objectively not as good as his job as they are (yet). Of course Mandel just glosses over it, but Ben’s invitation to Dan to set up a political consultancy is a sign that he think Dan’s matured enough to play with the big boys in politics, and you’d think that would matter a lot to Dan, insofar as anything does--past-Dan would be THRILLED, he’s a natural fit for an independent consultancy because he would get to have his fingers in a lot of pies at once and it naturally stoke his ego to be able to choose clients/dump them as necessary. I miss ambitious, neurotic Dan.

Speaking of season 5, I was reading a thread on Reddit about whether the show gets better after season 2 and there was an interesting comment about the change in staff writers/directors:
“Was just about to chime in that 3 and 4 are peak Iannucci. 5 starts out strong but clearly the format has changed with the installation of Mandel as showrunner and his staff of writers (yes, a different showrunner doesn't change the show completely, but in this case when Mandel came onboard, he also changed out a lot of writing and directorial staff - Georgia Pritchett was the only writer who was around for both Iannucci and Mandel's run, and even she was gone halfway through S5).”
https://www.reddit.com/r/Veep/comments/dgypt0/watched_the_first_2_seasons_so_far_not_quite/
I was curious, so I looked up the writing/directing credits for all the episodes in season 5 to see which members of the original team stayed on. The credits include Georgia Pritchett and Will Smith as writers and Chris Addison and Becky Martin as directors.
Will Smith wrote Chung (1x04), Midterms (2x01), Running (2x09), Some New Beginnings (3x01), Fishing (3x05), Storms and Pancakes, and Testimony (4x01), along with Thanksgiving (5x05) and C**tgate (5x06).
Georgia Pritchett wrote Fishing (3x05), Crate (3x09), Joint Session (4x01), Storms and Pancakes (4x06), along with Thanksgiving (5x05) and C**tgate (5x06).
Sean Gray wrote Catherine (1x03), Chung (1x04), Hostages (2x03), Running (2x09), Some New Beginnings (3x01), Alicia (3x03), Convention (4x05), Testimony (4x09), and Thanksgiving (5x05)
Chris Addison directed Signals (2x02), Hostages (2x03), The Vic Allen Dinner (2x04), Some New Beginnings (3x01), New Hampshire (3x10), Crate (3x09), Joint Session (4x01), Storms and Pancakes (4x06), Election Night (4x10), along with Nev-ad-a (5x02), The Eagle (5x03), and Thanksgiving (5x05).
Becky Martin is the only one from the original team who stayed on to occasionally direct episodes after season 5. She directed Camp David (5x08), Inauguration (5x10), Georgia (6x03), Qatar (6x06), and Super Tuesday (7x05).
I just thought it was interesting that there was still some influence from the original team in season 5, especially in regards to the writing. After that, to quote Reid, “Season six was when you really saw the new regime's voices come into their own.”

Thoughts on The Boys
season 3, episode 1
LET’S GO
oh this is definitely the movie
I can’t believe charlize theron gets to be in two superhero productions in a cameo capacity within about a month
she couldn’t have less of an accent if she tried
god, Homelander
this ear-ringing shows up a few times in these episodes and it’s interesting
Adam Bourke doesn’t really have a Zack Snyder vibe to me
I’m glad Hughie and Starlight can be together in public now
oh boy
gosh, this must be so awkward for both of them
Oh dear
perfect response
It really does
so they’re calling themselves that now?
I can’t believe they’re advertising Amazon in an Amazon show
Karen my love
Is this her real singing voice?
so is this man meant to be a version of the atom, or scott lang ant-man
this would almost be nice if it was a different show
jesus christ
YIKES
ew. ew. ew.
no thank you
also these fucking madlads really did the “Thanus” move, didn’t they
this is kind of a bop
Simon Pegg is back!
Mean Girls “how do I describe Regina George” vibes
I can’t believe she’s the future Vic the Veep
Not gonna be in peacetime for long
mood, Ryan
it’s weird to hear swear words coming from a small child
this is nice
accurate
oh good for him
ah yeah, this guy
so is the cult supposed to be like that one we can’t talk about, or NXIVM?
oh he knew alright
sure you are, buddy
awwww
that’s a lot of money
aha, Dakota Bob!
he’s not wrong
I’m sure it won’t take that long, aren’t there only supposed to be 5 seasons
Bob isn’t wrong either
I recognize those names
Maybe you’re winning, but Butcher isn’t
Outgunned, outmanned, outnumbered, outplanned…
Don’t talk to Kimiko like that
awww
He has the footage too?
YES, MY GIRL
of course they did
Homelander wouldn’t accept Maeve as co-captain
It’s a tempting offer
is that not the American Ninja Warrior logo but with different words
ANNIE
Hughie…
Starlight in her girlboss era
oh that’s just rude
love that comic art in the background
yikes
oh fuck that
of course they found each other on 4chan
can’t believe she’s still alive
homelander like “I can excuse racism, but I draw the line at being a literal fucking nazi”
Maeve looks so good
The Maeve-Butcher dynamic is fascinating
Soldier Boy’s name is still silly
There probably isn’t actually a weapon
So Gunpowder is his Bucky?
I was wondering if Scarlet Witch and Captain America ever hooked up, and it turns out yes?
(credit to my friend @hanabi-09 for finding that)
She has a point
is that a Terror cookie jar
this creepy motherfucker
this dynamic is also interesting
I have a feeling that’s how the series is going to end, like between the two of them they’re gonna destroy almost everything
oof, he has the newspaper article about Robin dying
Red River, huh?
oh no
Ew
It’s raining blood and guts
Who’s she calling?
