Her Vampire OC Vess Falke with a Bat Falcon! :D This was really fun to work on as I don't often get to draw animals realistically in my commissions. And I always appreciate a fellow bird-fan 😌

Gaelinien Falke Refsheet, 2024 edition~

Finally got my girl Gael to let me in and get a feel for her character over the course of The Risen War campaign! She doesn't have her rogue archetype yet as of this posting, but that's where she'll be going!

Gael, who is Vess's great-great-grandniece, is a Knight Confirmand of the Grim Knights of Greymoor. Above the unproven/recently sworn knights, but below the ranked officers. She's got a good amount of field experience under her belt, but all the same, with the war on the horizon for her home country, waged by her country's new king, she's not so sure of herself anymore.

That said, she's a surprisingly bright person, mood-wise, despite her faction's grim reputation. She's chatty and good-humored, and tries to watch out for her new companions.

(Un)Life-Changing Decisions

During the final third of the Risen War in Greymoor, Northern Auscives, Vess Falke was partnered with monster hunter Theron Silvas. Reason: Taking her off the front lines and minimizing any damage she might cause to Resistance forces as a vampire. And ensuring this solo-operator hunter had someone as a partner. Though a rocky start to their working relationship, Theron and Vess learned to work together quite well.

Theron learned that, not only did this girl come with vampirism; she came with pre-existing enemies. One such being a vampire spawn close to but above her in age, with an axe to grind and revenge to take. And she nearly did, putting Vess through her paces and through the wringer. Thank goodness for Theron, who was able to take some of the heat off Falke and help her put an end to the opposing spawn.

Poor Vess, expecting nothing more and nothing less than a similar end, offered to let Theron add her to his career kills list. 

To both of their surprises, he didn’t.

Vamptober 2023: Day 31

"I only regret that I don't get the chance to know you personally, Gaelinien. But I suppose I wouldn't have, anyway, had I remained mortal. May you do great things -and moreover, stay safe- in this war, my distant niece."~ Vess Falke

The final Vamptober entry is a snapshot of when Vess pledged to keep a watch out for her great-great-grandniece, Gael. It hurt to know that she had family so close, and yet, unable to make contact. Forbidden, lest she make their lives more complicated.

But at least they fight in the same war, for the same side, and against the same common enemy. Vess from the shadows, Gael in the light. And that just has to do.

Vamptober 2023: Day 3

Making her debut today is my villainess vampire, Lua Caerlinae. Formerly a vampire unicorn with a supremacy streak, now a Fallen Aasimar vampire who embraced her darkness and wields it with merciless abandon.

Where she may be in the world of Ulei'Var is currently unknown. But she claims to be the originator of the shadowborne lineage, the same bloodline that has begotten Vess Falke, and her bastard sire Alistair Lyon. All I can say is, she doesn't GET to pick whether she is or not, that's my call! xD

Meet Gael~

Gaelinien Falke is the newest addition to my roster, and it's no coincidence she shares her surname with my vampire, Vess!

Gael's not immediately related to Vessinia, though. She's Vess's great-great-grandniece! Vessinia was the second of 5 children, and this half-elven gal is the descendent of Vess's older brother, Andry. I also spent an inordinate amount of time actually mapping out the Falke family tree in order to figure out when and where Gael came into being in the world setting.

I don't know a lot about her personality yet, but I will as time goes on and she starts bouncing off existing characters in Ulei'Var! The only vibe I have on her right now is Ranger; will probably multiclass later, but she's as stubborn as any Greymooran, for certain!

Vessinia Falke Refsheet, 2023 edition~

Vess may have just gotten her refsheet in October '22, but with all the artwork and storycrafting she's been getting since, a more comprehensive one was called for!

Or two, as it happens! One for her (un)lifetime as a vampire, and another for her mortal life~ As well as actually mapping out her inventory. Since her Shadow Blade tattoo comes at a cost of limited per-diem usage, she has a physical longsword to use when the spell isn't an option. And a hunting knife, to help in drawing blood when she doesn't want to use her fangs. Notably, if the blood source is humanoid. To help keep the vampiric beast within from gaining a foothold.

She gives off so much anime girl energy in her posture, it's ridiculous. xD At least, I think she does~

Oops my hand slipped~ Shipping’s not my thing if it’s not organic. But these two grew close enough that it just. Happened~ Adorable awkward dorks of vampire-hunting vampires!

@bluebrush09arts’s monster hunter guy Theron Silvas, after the attack that left him a vampire; and my vampire gal Vessinia Falke, have just realized they’ve caught feelings for each other. Just a wee bit!

After Theron was turned, Vess has been right at his side to guide him through the muck and mire that is adjusting to being the monster you once hunted. To teach him how to get by without giving in, to pull him out of spiraling, and just to keep being there as his friend and field partner. He gave her the chance to prove she is a monster with her humanity intact; it’s the least she can do.

Both of them want to give the other the opportunity, should they find it, to get their mortal life back, to find the solution that doesn’t end in their permanent death(s). Vess’s window in which to receive that chance is closing. Theron’s is still wide open for a while. But both would give the other the chance first.

This isn’t how this meeting ended up going down, but I was drawing it before I wrote it so I needed to finish it!

Vess Falke and Avyrin Zephros are two peas in a pod, in that they’re unwilling vampires who escaped their sires, enacted/catalyzed said sires’ destruction, and generally speaking, nonconfrontational.

How it actually went down is thus: Neither one like letting undead, especially other vampires, roam freely. Vess is pursuing a cure for her best friend, Theron, by way of a true resurrection artifact. Avyrin is saddled with guiding the spirits haunting his mind back to Heriot. 

Avyrin, with his friend Wynde the gunslinger, went after Vess and Theron as the latter two were searching for a huge temple full of clerics that could maybe possibly answer some very difficult questions. He challenged Vess one-on-one first, and as the dice rolled it, she proceeded to completely mop the floor with the poor cleric. She didn’t want to; she was acting out of self-defense. But poor Avyrin did not, could not, get a blow in edgewise. So she incapacitated him without knocking him unconscious, and she and Theron bolted.

Avyrin and Wynde ended up catching up to Vess and Theron that same night, once more initiating combat, in which Vess persuaded them to talk about things peacefully. And her one failed save of the night was against his upcast Hold Person, which Theron shook off and Vess did not, leaving the rest of the negotiations to Theron. xD

Vamptober 2022: Day 20

Theron Silvas is @bluebrush09arts‘s vampire/monster hunter, and a friend to Vess Falke. An unlikely duo they began as, that later became a much more relaxed friendship as the vampire proved different from what Theron’s parents and trade had taught him. c:

Alas, even a good hunter can become the hunted, and this explores that outcome for Mr. Silvas, after he’s come to terms with his new reality after being attacked and turned by a different vampire. He even picked up a cool new trick from Vess, who stood by him and helped him through the tumult so he can (try and) get his life back. Wielding a Light to grant him a blade of darkness pulled from his own shadow~

Vessinia Falke Refsheet, 2022 edition~

Bonus artwork for my girl Vess! Rather, I needed this in order to make her Vamptober entry. She hasn’t had a canon version ref, ever, and I needed to change that this year! c:

I think I’ve really hit a breakthrough with drawing her, because I’m so darn happy with how she came out in both her Vamptober picture and the refsheet~ She’s eluded me designing her for some time, and I think it’s mostly because she didn’t like the ideas that were previously in my skull. Which is fine! I got this look out of it for her! :D And it really fits well for her~ I’m happy with it!

Her shadowy birds don’t actually do anything, but they are a fun flavor thing that just fit with her falconer past.

Vamptober 2022: Day 8

Debuting her human/canon form this year is my former falconer, currently vampiric undead hunter, Vessinia Falke! 

Hailing from the same region of Ulei’Var as my War Cleric Hestara, and having existed through the exact same war, Vess fought for the Greymoor Resistance against their king, “Madman” Morvaine. The monarch was trying to turn the region into a haven for intelligent undead. Just... Not very considerately of his living subjects.

Not pictured here is Hestara about to try and punch the snot out of her just for being a vampire. Vess, honey, you can’t reason with Hestara; she’s too aggressive and you’re too vampiric. xD

A page of doodles of some of my OCs~

I decided to give Rori’s pony version an update and make her a pretty buckskin instead of a plain golden yellow horse. It’s stuck so well that it’s going to be permanent. x3 The sketch off to the top right is what would happen if my wild mage/ice sorcerer Soren met my anti-magic thief/swashbuckler Qirani. Soren is highly dependent on her magic, almost to an instinctive level. Qirani, on the other hand, does not appreciate magic or magic users at all.  Under that is a design I was toying with for an OC I’d forgotten about but recently reminded myself that she exists. A high elf x wood elf combat caster gal named Alaena Galathen, retainer for and lover of the Captain of the Guard for a high-elven capital city.

Bottom left is a wing-arms-crossed unimpressed pony!Vess, and to the right of that is what would happen if Vess and Soren met. Shadows moving on their own, and ice creeping up limbs. Intriguing to both of them, though shadow magic is more unsettling for Soren than ice is for Vess. lol

I gotta get some new and updated refsheets out for these gals.

Sometimes I read back through old RPs and I remember just how much I enjoyed playing a character. To the point of just really wanting to talk about them and hope folks engage with me about them. owo

This time, I’ve remembered my fantasy vampire gal Vess and how much I really haven’t written down about her. owo Despite drawing her in pony form on and off over the time I’ve spent on Tumblr.

Vess, short form for one Vessinia Falke, is my shadowmancer vampire and anti-undead agent for a faction in her world known as the Grim Knights, specifically the Shadowguard section of it. Colloquially they’re known as the Deadhunters, a title well-earned through their efforts opposing a necromancer king and his armies. She didn’t have the greatest of starts with them but she’s become invaluable since~

I’d love to have asks about her and/or her world, if such could be had! o:
