"Your Grace! Should you really be saying such things about your brother so loudly?" Trysta gaped at Aegon, eyes bright as she tried to hold back her laughter. They'd been having a few drinks, perhaps too many in the case of the King, and then it seemed that his mouth had turned into a fountain of gossip.

"Honestly, if we're going to start sharing family secrets, you've got to learn how to be sneakier about it." Thankfully, the hour was late enough that the only people nearby were members of his Kingsguard, otherwise she wouldn't have taken him up on his offer of wine in the first place.

Tourneys were so boring, and she found that they didn't keep her attention at all. Yet here she was, being forced to watch men try to knock each other off horses, in hopes of coming out on top. The idea alone made her want to roll her eyes, she was trying to figure out the best way to move away from her seat, her family was all focused on the action and it would allow her for the best opportunity to just, disappear. Maybe she'd even managed to find some forgotten weapons in the flurry of activity and get to practice her skills. When she was certain no one was paying her attention, she rose and began to move towards the exit, finding herself face to face with someone she hadn't expected. "Apologies" she said quietly, avoiding eye contact in an attempt to continue her escape.

{☾} The magazine slaps on the table beside her at the pool, her legs stretched out under the sun. Alicent glanced down at the cover from the top of her sunglasses and frowns. EXCLUSIVE, it read in all caps. Superimposed over a picture of Alicent and Criston, taken on the beach. They'd been holding hands and completely oblivious to the world. It was a recent picture and she could already see the weight of the world being lifted off of her shoulders--her smile was lighter, her gait was easier...

She looked HAPPY for the first time in years.

Alicent looked up at her stepson and pursed her lips to the side. "Nothing was going on while I was married to your dad, Aegon," she answered truthfully, sitting up from her chair. "I...Criston and I had broken up before and...he's just..."

She bows her head a little, picking at her fingers again. "He's had my heart since the day we met. It's not just a fling."

❝ your grace , how you flatter me. ❞ a smile is drawn out onto features , hands reaching behind her. for a fresh delivery of desserts were brought to her chambers , and she was eager to share with the king. she cannot control herself , she isn't sure what has come over her , but sansa takes the cake and smashes it in aegon's face , crumbs scattered about. ❝ oh , your grace , i'm so sorry. i don't know what's come over me! i would never act so foolishly. ❞

Sometimes Alicent thought she had already experienced as much pain and heartbreak as anyone could ever do. Every single one of those times the gods seemed more than eager to remind her that grief was far from a finite thing.

Her already fragmented heart broke further as she laid eyes on her son. Her firstborn, her sweet boy, burned and broken on that wretched bed. He reminded her of his father like this, and just the thought of equating Aegon to Viserys was more than enough to make her stomach turn. Still, she focused on the task at hand. The Maester had long since left the King's chambers, leaving her with meticulous instructions on how to clean and redress the burns on her son's side. Who better to tend to a hurt boy than his own mother? "Shh. It's alright, my love," she said quietly. After dipping a soft cloth in cool water, she began to gently tap at his burned flesh, hoping to give at least some relief to his pain. "I am here. Mother is here with you, and I shall not leave."
