[spoilers] the noble and anciente house of rosier<3
as requested on ao3 by people who wanted spoilers afhslghsljfhgsjkdhfj - i'll be tagging this type of post as 'atfhv spoilers' so you can block (or search for) these posts as desired!
if you do NOT want spoilers about what's going on with evan, then do not click the read more. i'm not going to fully unpack it because i do want to leave some things to be discovered, but it's going to be a LOT of information way before you'll find it out in the story
okay, with that disclaimer, hERE WE GOOOOOOOO
okay SO. this might not make sense if you haven't read chapter 27 of ttdl. i mentioned in the comments that i think now people have enough information to potentially call evan out on a very specific lie, which was......... a true but slightly misleading statement
so here's the thing: that lie is not a lie evan ever told us, because regulus told it for him way back in chapter 6:
The Rosiers are one of very few Dark families that claim not to have a family magic. Evan insists that for them, practicing Dark Arts is really more about being friends with the right people. He attends every meeting of Regulus's Dark Arts study group and spends the whole time chatting with the other members instead of working on anything. The other Dark families are collectively skeptical about whether the Rosiers really don't have a specialty or whether they're just pretending, because they're one of the oldest families in the network—they've had generations upon generations in which they could have developed a family magic. And maybe there is a specialty. But as far as Regulus knows for sure, Evan's practice of Dark Arts extends only to flipping through Regulus's books sometimes and pointing out spells with funny names.
now, regulus *is* aware that this might not be true, but frankly, he doesn't devote a lot of mental energy to it, because he has a lot of other shit going on and evan just doesn't seem to. care that much? about practicing dark arts? (which renders his interest in joining reg's side a little unexpected, hmm??)
let's get into the lie. as you've probably guessed by now, it's about the rosier family specialty, which absolutely does exist and has been cultivated for centuries to be as subtle as possible, much like the family image. evan's used it before - evan uses it a LOT, actually, although there are a lot of details about its use that i'm not going to get into on this post (feel free to ask if you want the whole rundown on how it works but this post is really about evan not the family magic).
but the first time evan uses it really blatantly in front of regulus is in chapter 27, and here it is:
He trails a hand along one row of books like he's looking for something, speaking faux-absentmindedly, but it doesn't stop almost every person in earshot from looking at least vaguely interested. Some people even blatantly look up from what they're doing. Evan has distinctly become the center of attention, without even needing to talk particularly loudly.
aaaaaaaand some more:
Regulus is interested despite himself—he knows Evan is making all of this up, and yet something about how he's saying it makes Regulus want to know more, as if this is real information that Evan is sharing with him.
regulus is interested despite himself. he KNOWS it's fake, but the magic evan is using is catching regulus along with everyone else in the room. regulus just doesn't notice it happening. (this is a little bit of an unusual use for the rosier specialty - it's not out of the ordinary, but it's very blatant compared to how they normally use it)
as for what type of magic it is....... you know how regulus is good at runes because he learned them very young for the black specialty? yeah<33
okay now go reread chapter 12 and take a look at how long it takes for regulus to start telling evan things

God the Jojolion readers on /a/ are getting unbearable. I swear they don’t even enjoy the manga anymore and all the wild speculation/toorufags/kaatofags are killing me.
I get your frustration about that. As a platform free of moderation, trolls are very free to invade threads there. The comments expressing their hatred and disappointment regarding JJL also wears me out... like "shut up and get out! Just stop reading it and bitching about it here!" unless it's their first time to express that and also include legitimate criticism of why do they think so.
And about those wild speculations too, yeah... sometimes I don't get why some readers often think too far about every drawings there, as if everything must have a deep meaning.
However, there is a plus point for platforms/threads that are free from moderator's 'grip', that we can be more honest and outspoken in expressing our opinion and challenging other opinions without sugarcoating it for the sake of being respectful (which potentially will lose its true meaning).
In fact, I often find brilliant thoughts and ideas on this platform (4chan) more than on reddit!
I was a redditor and I've been hanging out on JoJo's subreddits for over a year. I've been really eagered about being on r/StardustCrusaders... until the quality of moderation there began to decline.
I'm the kind of person who always being cautious before action so I always make sure to read the rules before posting. I have successfully posted several times by following the rules (regarding tags and so on) until one day my post was rejected.
After communicating with the moderator, the reason s/he gave was fair and reasonable and I could accept it. But when I reposted I no longer care to check the status whether it was accepted or not.
Then when I submitted another post for the second time, somehow it was immediately 'rejected' as if it was done automatically for reason that is very vague either!! Even though I've checked them as best I could (including spoiler tag and the rule for title).
Should I contact the moderator again about this? Well, from then on I was already tired with it. Do I have to beg the moderators every time I want to post something there? No thanks, I'd rather just leave the sub altogether.
You may think that I was being childish, but imagine if... in order to post something there you had to repeatedly ask the moderators to negotiate the approval.
Besides, the quality of subreddit has also declined with the spread of fanart posts which drown out the other posts that might be worth to discuss. Not to mention some potential posts that may have been rejected.
And lately there have also been redditors who have complained about the removal of their comments for no apparent reason.
I'm not saying that 4chan is objectively better than reddit, it's just that right now I feel more comfortable with 4chan... and youtube comment section too because yeah... no moderators there policing your thought.
And to be honest, toorufags/kaatofags/jobinfags are everywhere (not just in /a/), but the best place to fight them is in 4chan at the moment. At least we can be blunt and treat them like a joke there than have to take them seriously in reddit.

Today in the America.n Gods tag I discovered that some of the ships for this show are not what I expected! Some intrigue me, some I could probably live without, and others just have me really really sincerely concerned that people legitimately do not realize what theyre shipping and ... might wanna read the novel before they become too invested in the idea.

i just saw your rb of my thread and gotta day that jlo gif speaks directly into my soul. about the movie, i vaguely remember acknowledging some parts/plot points as good but in retrospect i cant remember a single of them so i feel like that says a lot. didn't know how else to reply to your tags so here i am sliding into your ask box. thanks! and im gonna take a while to stop being mad about it too xx
Hi! Your whole live blogging thread really put a smile on my face so thank you for that, I had to share cause I know I have a few followers here who feel the same way about the movie ;)
I can’t bring myself to watch it tbh, I’ve heard spoilers very early on and then the trailer made me cringe so hard I knew I couldn’t handle 2 hours of that. Now that the movie is available I’ve read even more reviews that confirm what I feared about how bad it is. I adore Seb but there are limits to what I am willing to sit through for him lolIt’s just frustrating cause he’s such a talented guy and he ends up with so many crappy projects that just waste his potential and that kinda makes me mad/sad.
Also the fact that this fandom romanticizes and idealizes Frank as this fluffy sexy boyfriend instead of the manipulative douche that he is. Plus the fact that the movie also romanticizes Daphne’s incredibly toxic behavior and thinks this is a movie about something deep or meaningful and real which are all excuses for cheating and selfish behavior imo
So yeah, there’s just a lot about this movie that makes me mad lol

Here’s a post to kind of talk about the shows I’ll be watching this season, just in case you guys want some recommendations, or might want to talk about them!
Just keep in mind that I might add more shows to this post, or possibly even drop some, this will be in order of air date (more or less)
Osomatsu-san 2: So I absolutely adored the first season, it was so so funny, and I can’t wait to see more. Overall I think the first episode could have been a little stronger, I know it’s Osomatsu-san, but it was kind of weird lol. But yeah, I’m sure it’ll get back to normal (as normal as this show can be) for the second episode.
EDIT: It did get better! The second episode was much more of the Osomatsu-san I know. Can’t wait to laugh more lol
Juuni Taisen: If you’ve been following me for the past few weeks, you’ll know how invested I am in this show. I have, no exaggeration, been aware of this for months and months and months. It was first announced in March, and I’ve been following it since a couple months after that. It had updates every 12th day of the month, and you bet your ass I was waiting for every single one. The characters, concept, setting, literally everything drew me into this. It hadn’t even aired yet, and Usagi was already like top 5 characters of all time lmao. IN TERMS OF THE ACTUAL EPISODE: I think it was an extremely strong start, with plenty of twists (although I already know who dies because I like spoilers lol). I can’t wait to see more, and I’m reading the manga that’s coming out alongside it, you can find it on viz media. Literally the only thing that bothers me about this is the fanbase. I’ve seen so many creepy people in the tag going “OMG I LOVE USAGI, I’M SUCH A PERVERT XD” like no. Stop. Usagi is not just his appearance, stop being gross, thanks. Also Boar talking over a lot of other things kind of bothered me, but I doubt that kind of format will continue, or at least it won’t be as annoying.
EDIT: Holy fuck this is such a good show. The second episode was amazing, but I won’t really talk about that, because I want to talk about the original light novel. It was recently translated officially to English and released, so I bought it obviously, and read it. FUCK ME IT GETS SO DARK, GOREY, AND VIOLENT. Like seriously, I won’t say who it happens too, but there are people biting off their tongues, having their lungs collapsed, and getting their arms ripped off. If you don’t like really gorey stuff, you might not want to watch this.
Sengoku Night Blood: I had been vaguely aware of this for awhile, I think I saw the original game opening video when it first came out. It’s a bunch of pretty boys, so obviously I’m interested. In terms of characters, I’m both interested and intimidated lmao, if you watched the first episode, you’ll know that there are so. many. damn. characters. Like there were four or five factions, each with at least four characters in them. There are a lot of characters. But at the same time, each of them manage to catch my interest, and I’d like to know more about them. The world is also interesting, with vampires and werewolves, but also being historical. Now in terms of it being an otome, I’ve never been a fan of the stupid and weak main female character, when it comes to an anime adaptation, they just aren’t interesting as characters. But she showed a couple of interesting characteristics, such as willing to fight. We’ll just have to see I think.
EDIT: I’m really enjoying this now! While yeah, the MC is the classic can’t do shit girl that’s really annoying, I think the other characters make up for it. I see a lot of potential, and hope to learn more about the characters that I actually give a shit about lol
Ancient Magus Bride: I watched part of the first OVA awhile back, and truthfully I’m not quite sure yet? By themselves, I think the characters are all very interesting, I like the dog lol.  But in terms of relationships between them? I’m not so sure. I understand that this is a romance, but I’m here for the setting, the magic, and the characters by themselves, rather than the actual romance. Overall I think it can be a very beautiful, in many aspects, anime. I just hope it’s more than the romance.
Houeski no Kuni: So this one just came out today, and I literally just watched it like 15 minutes ago lol. I was surprised with how much I enjoyed it to be honest. I’m not really sure how to describe the animation, but you’ll know what I’m taking about if you watch it. I’ve never been a fan of that style, so it was kind of off-putting when I first started the episode, but by the end I think I didn’t really mind it, and it actually had some very pretty scenes. In terms of the characters, I’ll just explain in case you didn’t read a synopsis, there are basically a bunch of these genderless characters who are made out of gems (?), they’re like a new species, who are being hunted for the beauty of the gems. The idea of genderless characters was really cool, but the problem is the voices... They’re like, literally all female. If they’re going to do genderless people, at least make it sound ambiguous? Or some masculine, some feminine? But no, I’m positive that not a single character that we met in the episode was voiced by a male. All female voice characters. I tried my best to kind of push pass the voices and think of them as genderless, and at least some of them have male features, the character named Cinnabar has some male qualities (but again, female voice actor). I typically dislike female-majority cast shows (I just think anime has poor females tbh), so that’s why the voices are off-putting to me. But anyway, the designs were pretty cool, for how many there are, they’re all unique at least. This one went on a little long, but it’s mostly because I think it has a lot of potential to be amazing, so we’ll see!
DROPPED THIS WEEK: Tsukipro, Taishou Chicchai San
So there we go! Let me know if you agree, disagree, anything! If you have any questions, want to know more, just let me know!
