Trans!Hiccup later in life becoming more confident in himself and coming to terms with the fact knowing how to and doing things traditionally viewed as 'feminine' doesn't make him any less of a man my beloved.
He canonically knows how to sew. Like his attempted cover was he was 'making outfits' so why not? He definitely made his own armor, he probably makes his own clothes when he has the time. He said he wanted to he a 'bread making viking' (and yes i know it was a hasty lie but hear me out) so I'd like to think he knows at least how to bake and probably how to cook as well. And he enjoys these things and indulged in them when he's able to.

Elrond: Your Majesty- I mean, Gil-Galad, you’re in so much trouble!
Gil: Huh?! For what?
Elrond: Did you burn Erestor’s account book?!
Gil:…I might’ve.
Elrond: Gil-Galad
Gil: Fine, yes.
Elrond: You can’t go around burning things! Especially if you’re using your own breath!
Gil: Why not?
Elrond: Because you’re supposed to be acting like an elf!
Gil: No, I’m supposed to be LOOKING like an elf. Mission accomplished, as you can clearly see.

Feel like the only author I know of that I think could properly capture the Vibe, the Essence, of Httyd other than Cressida is Lemony Snicket
Something about the way they tend to make use of a more Whimsical and Silly way of writing coupled with The Horrors™️ is just so very satisfying to me
Which its also kinda funny because the stories are very different, but their core is actually Very Similar
The Well Meaning Adults are kinda dumb and Dismissive of the Children, who are constantly in Danger from Sinister Adults who take advantage of that fact, and Cycles of Events that seem to Repeat themselves, all wrapped up with themes of Hope and Kindness and Love Preserving through even The Worst of Times
I don't really have a point to this, I just think it's cool and felt like rambling a lil bit

Hello everyone I'm back for another round of "Things about the httyd books that make me feral". this time, quotes! (with occassional commentary). Only have ones for books 1-8 right now, the rest will be up Eventually
"We're all snatching precious moments from the peaceful jaws of time."
"Listen," said Hiccup, happily, just before passing out. "The supper is singing."
And I bend my head, not too close, and I am sure I can just hear very, very faintly:
Once I set the sea alight
with a single fiery breath….
Once I was so mighty that I thought
my name was Death….
Sing out loud until you're eaten,
song of melancholy bliss,
For the mighty and the middling
all shall come to THIS….
The Supper is still singing.
"I'm rotten to the core and I like being rotten. The treasure has got me and I like being got." (love this one it sums up Alvin so well)
"But then if Hiccup had been a traditional Hooligan Hero, he would have been dead as a kipper several books ago."
"There were heroes when I was a Boy" (the callback to there were dragons is so good)
"Stories come from somewhere," said the witch. "The past haunts the present in more ways than we realize." (our first hints into how important cycles are to the story)
"It was the second time Grimbeard the Ghastly had tried to kill his son. And this time he succeeded" (this one does things to me. the resigned tone alone is enough but oh man the context of the witches story added on?)
"I should warn you, Boy-Who-Has-a-Name-I-Once-Loved, that not a speck of that love remains. Not a jot. Not a whisper. One hundred years of captivity has drained every last drop of that love from me, and I am cured for ever." (This. oh god this. The fact that Furious' love for his brother has ended in believing love is posion? heartbreaking)
“You have to have a heart to make a promise.” Growled the dragon, “And my heart was broken long ago. With the half that is left I'll keep HALF my promise.” (This line is my other favorite, because of how cleverly worded it is. and for Furious to use his broken heart as justification when he thinks love is bad is a whole other concept)

something I've been thinking about is how interesting it would be to see the goblincore/gremlincore/corvidcore type aesthetic to evolve into an actual subculture. obviously for starters we should change the name bc anything ending in -core just doesn't sit right with me? unless of course it becomes that "placeholder name turns true name" sorta deal but ANYWAY.
main three key elements I've noticed that tend to make up a subculture is: style/outfit presentation (the optional part), belief system, and music genre(s).
style and presentation: (like what you wear), that part is already obvious if you ever followed the aesthetic at any point. (it was trendy for a time I think, is it still trendy? bc idk if it is but that's not stopping me from loving it.) basically wearing majority earth colors like browns and greens, stuff like hobbit-esque cloths or sweaters and stuff. definitely LOTS of nature based themes or just wearing weird trinkets. gotta go for that "creature directly out of the chronicles of spider wick" type look you know?
with the clothes (and often interior design I've noticed, which my entire bedroom would probably fit the aesthetic actually) one thing I've noticed for most who are into the aesthetic is there is a LOT of DIY. also going out and collecting things you find (anything from mystery trinkets to dead bugs and sticks and rocks, which I grew up doing and would call myself a tinker bc I made stuff out of what I found very often).
belief system: I feel like, above all else, beliefs commonly held among people in this aesthetic is to respect and be in nature, as well as do not waste, reduce and reuse. a lot of environmentalist like stuff, as well as seeing and respecting the beauty of nature, from butterflies and flowers to dirt and corpses. I don't have a solid concrete answer for belief system, but hopefully that sums up my view on it.
music genre: folk/folk punk, fantasy DND type genres, and nature based lyrics and vibes. from my experience and digging around, there's less artists who catch the vibe of this aesthetic all around (bc that's not what they're trying to do), and moreso having a couple or handful of songs that fit so very well. unless of course it's a genre of music that is enheritly matching to this aesthetic.
anyway, I'm not great at explaining the music aspect of it, but I feel like if it's magical and yet sorta punk-like that can work. no limits here yet, I have a playlist on my youtube that definitely pushes the boarders but who cares? the thing has celtic woman and httyd score on it. I just think if this evolved into having music for the genre (idk if we could call it a music based genre since it didn't start that way but I mean overall having a genre of music dedicated to this aesthetic-turned-subculture) it would be really interesting to hear what comes of it.
circling back for a minute, I feel like punk comes hand-and-hand with a couple of things here, but specifically mainly eco-punk. like diy, reduce and reuse, etc. as well as the music, while not deeply punk still feels like it would have a punk undercurrent.
I also think this could parallel well with goth, with the dark romantic sorta stuff. the music and belief system having love and adoration for the strangest and darkest aspects of nature, similar to goths seeing beauty in the darkness and creepiness of the world.
if anyone actually read this I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on my little rant (suggestions for bands/musicians and similar subcultures/subculture parallels are very encouraged) bc I grew up doing pretty much everything within this aesthetic long before I knew it was a thing or maybe even before it was a thing. that isn't meant to be gate keepy. I mean that when I found out just how many other people liked and did the same things as me, it was just so cool. so I just really wanna talk to people about this and I think something like this aesthetic could easily become a subculture one day.

And they literally turned Light Fury into a tampon with glitter, a dragon Barbie, etc. The whole point of her design is not in the "sea theme". NO. It's the fact that she is so smooth and feminine stupidly because Toothless needs an ideal female, so that even a one-year-old child can understand that she is a WOMAN.They turned graceful, sarcastic Toothless into a fucking slobbering muscular dog with giant eyes, removing the last drops of intelligence and elegance from him (probably because males can't be elegant, right???). And they literally turned Light Fury into a tampon with glitter, a dragon Barbie, etc. The whole point of her design is not in the "sea theme". NO. It's the fact that she is so smooth and feminine stupidly because Toothless needs an ideal female, so that even a one-year-old child can understand that she is a WOMAN.
I agree with you on some points, have some extra opinions, and disagree in some places. I don't like what they did with the movie, it was inconsistent with 1 & 2. They were trying to hard to tie it back to the books and forgot about what they built outside of the books, and as someone who has read and watched both it makes me sad because they were both great independently. I understand they needed to end it (Or not since there's an upcoming live-action but I digress.) and they did it decently with what they had. It was always going to be sad, but I feel like they could've done better with the plot, in the end it was a good movie but only okay to a hard-core fan. (I happened to be one.) I know they wanted to end with a win and that's why Grimmel and the hu ters were deafeted, but it would've been better if there was still an actual not nullified threat. If we could see the danger just on the horizon so they sent them to safety then the win would be seeing the dragons had escaped and had families years later. I don't like how they villianised deathgrippers, "There are no bad dragons just bad people." -Valka. As for the lightfury design I'm actually ok with that, as you see in the hidden world the whole species, even the male lightfuries, look like that. It's unique, no other dragon is as glossy or shiny, but it makes sense other dragons have been fighting and getting tougher while in the hidden world lightfuries just chill out. I would've very much liked another nightfury, but the show did reiterate in just about all things httyd that Toothless is the only one, but at least he now isn't alone. (Also side note watch the short homecoming it's nice to see Toothless never forgot Hiccup.) I agree I think Toothless's design wasn't the greatest in the third movie (my fav versions of him are httyd 2 and gotnf). As far as his design goes I think they leaned more towards an expressive dog than they were trying to make him more masculine. Thanks for the ask!

thinking about how httyd (especially the first one) is about hiccup realizing he'll never live up to stoick's expectations and eventually deciding to stop trying to and just be who he is and really coming to his own as a leader, a friend, a son, a person etc etc, and if the story was told from snotlout's pov there would be a VERY similar core message there

I might as well ask you this because I enjoy your writing and way of expressing your opinions. Why do you personally ship Sonamy? What got you into Sonamy? What’s your favorite moment between the two? I know this is a very common question, but I hope you don’t mind me asking. 😅
Oh, this ought to be fun XD I don't mind at all. Send all the asks you like, I like to talk about my interests. I tend to ramble, so excuse my long texts. Gonna insert a break line so I don't torture my followers (that sentence makes it sound like I'm running a cult.)
Why do you personally ship Sonamy? What got you into Sonamy?
These two are connected, so it's fair to answer them both in one go. I'm very new to the fandom, unlike most of the people I've met who've been here for as long as they can remember. I originally had no interest in the franchise. Yeah, I played some games and watched the anime a few years back and had some cheap plastic toys from fast-food kiddie meals, but the franchise never stuck with me back then.
I got reintroduced through Sonic Prime around last year, which led to me reading the IDW comics, which is where I started getting into SonAmy. I really liked Amy in particular; surprising, seeing as she hadn't been my favorite character as a child. I liked Tails and Silver more back then, but the comic solidified Amy as my number one. In every fandom I've been in (HTTYD, MHA) I almost always gravitate toward characters who embody love, and that's the core of Amy.
Sonic was harder for me to decipher at first, seeing as he's more of a person who shows his emotions through action rather than words (in some iterations, at least.) But seeing him be more receptive in the comics and treating her better in more recent media portrayals piqued my interest because this wasn't how I remembered these two from when I was a kid. Seeing the progression from how their dynamic started to how it became made me feel proud of them.
And I'm one of those who likes to hypothesize that their affection used to be more one-sided but became mutual over time. Things change. Feelings change. People change. And I love that.
What’s your favorite moment between the two?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This. I think this is when I started seeing the ship as something I'd like. I've inserted the second panel as well because, while I know the first one is a no-brainer for some SonAmy shippers, I don't see many of them bringing up the follow-up panel.
Before this scene, Sonic kept rejecting Amy's proposal to go back to the Resistance with her (he had his reasons, as he saw investigating the circumstances of Eggman's absence and the waves of Badniks as a higher priority. Get to the snake's head to find the root of the problem.) He was in a hurry to get going. It wasn't until Amy told him she loved him for who he was and that she didn't want to change him that he stopped, got a little flustered, and proposed she come with him instead.
And she declined. She, too, had priorities.
Before this moment, it was possible he didn't see having both Amy and his stubborn way of doing things his way possible, but after, it might've finally clicked in his head that, Oh wait, I can have both? He's asked Amy to come along with him for other adventures afterward.
Also, can I just say how much I appreciate Sonic (who has a history of being touch averse) being more welcoming to her affection? Cause I do.
Tumblr media
Okay, switching to Frontiers:
Tumblr media
This scene is mostly quiet (I like nonverbal communication in general) and I found it too adorable to not mention. It's just for a few seconds, but the way Sonic does a little giddy skip when she waves him over, and the the fact that he just smiled so innocently the whole time he made his way over is just pure sweetness.
Tumblr media
This short little misunderstanding/confrontation. This one's just plain fun for me. Sonic's impatience and inability to articulate his reasoning leads to him sounding like he's abandoning the Koco Amy really wants to help. She's putting the Koco before herself when Sonic's just worried about her. As soon as the misunderstanding is cleared up, Amy calms down, seeing it from his point of view now. It's a subtle little exchange, but knowing how these two used to not be great at communication in past games, and seeing them now deescalate a little misunderstanding this calmly brings me joy.
With each Koco the characters help, there's a certain theme associated between the Koco and Sonic's friends. The inventor Koco and Tails, trying to be of use to others; the soldier Kocos and Knuckles, both who had their people wiped out. For Amy, the Koco (the only Koco who goes by they/them, so that's what I'll be using for them here) is trying to reunite with their lover who had gone into battle. Throughout the game, Amy in her ghostly form can't touch anyone, and she expresses symptoms of dissociation, of feeling 'detached', that she's flying in a dream, but she wishes to just land.
Tumblr media
Remember, Amy is a physically affectionate person, but she can't do much of anything, let alone feel anyone, in this situation. She has to leave it to her love, Sonic, to go into battles. She knows all too well how the Koco was feeling, being separated from their lover. When Amy and Sonic watch the Koco reunite with their partner for the last time, it hits Amy hard, and Sonic knows how affected she is by this. He gives her some time to grieve because he knows her well enough to understand this hit her hard. He tells her, "They're together now." And that's all that matters. And I love that scene. It's so mild compared to what others in the community might bring up, but I'm a sucker for the quieter moments like this.
I have to stop myself now before this turns into a novel lol

hiii kris! i am a long time fan and your fanfiction is probably the only fanfiction I still follow to this day because your right is just TEWWW GOOD. i wondered if you have ever envisaged what Astrid/Elsa meeting for the first time would be like? either modern AU or a crossover within their universes? i recently watched HTTYD 2 and noticed a lot of parallels and also a lot of differences between them - but ultimately thought - what would they even think of each other? how would they interact?
HI thank you so much. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🙏 ilu 💕💕💕💕 thank you so much for this super sweet ask and your SUPER SWEET WORDS.
also, GAH, i love this idea. i had definitely considered their potential interactions in the context of rotbtfd settings (and i briefly briefly played around with a modern/magical-realism/mermaid!au take on this in frosted sea glass, but as those who have read the story already know, elsa has a very complicated dynamic with the others, astrid included). but now that you've brought up this idea, with a specific focus on the two of them in particular...? how might a friendship begin? an alliance? i am intrigued, i am intrigued, thank you for this. 💕
I DID NOT MEAN TO WRITE ANOTHER FICLET/ONE-SHOT AHHHHHHHHHH
also, FULL DISCLOSURE, to be absolutely honest, if you’d asked me this question 4 days ago, i would have had a completely different vision/response. (maybe i’ll still write this other version one day???) however... 3 days ago, i reblogged a fanart of elsa with her own ice dragon, and it’s been living RENT FREEEE in my head ever since, so, therefore, my reply to this ask, in this moment, is HEAVILY INFLUENCED and very much inspired by this gorgeous fanart on twitter/X from @Kiddo_hah (which i found from a re-post shared by @humongoustreemoon). i, too, have reposted the fanart inside this ask for dramatic effect™ but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be sure to GO TO THE twitter/x POST (linked again at the bottom of the ficlet too) and like, reply, and share this glorious creation, especially since i don’t have a twitter myself, thank you thank you 💕💕💕💕

“I know, I know!” Astrid urged Stormfly forward, patting her neck and gritting through the unnatural chill, the sharp-like blades of wind on the skin not protected by her armor. “Almost there!”
Stormfly cried out—willing, trusting, but cold, and she ain’t happy about it—charging forward, her powerful wings slicing through the frigid air as they neared the towering ice fortress.
Her eyes catalogued potential weaknesses, entry points, barriers. It’s not like Valka’s old hideaway… The structure loomed on the horizon, its crisp spires piercing the bright white sky. It’s so… unnatural…
Unliked the Ice Beast’s jagged spikes, these constructions were symmetrical—crystalline.
Hiccup—where are you!
Astrid decided on their entry point and swooped down to surge through the crevasse —for better or worse.
The biting winds were replaced with a bone-deep chill, and with a screech, Stormfly instinctively slowed their pace to mitigate the burn. Astrid’s armor was not comfortable, but removing it was not an option. What is this place? The deeper they ventured into the glacier, the more Astrid’s breath crystallized in the air. Impossibly, the bright ice around them shifted and shimmered as they flew past—as though the ice itself was breathing.
As if it were alive.
“I know, I know,” Astrid soothed Stormfly, but they couldn’t leave, not yet. “Don’t you feel that?”
And she knew the Nadder could; there, at the center of the structure, a pulse of power—something ancient and formidable.
Another Ice King?
Stormfly slowed to nothing more than a glide as they slipped into what could only be the deep core. This far inside the glacier's cavernous heart, there was no wind, no sound; only eerie, imposing, suffocating silence… save for the occasional cracks and bending twangs of the glacier, in the haunting song that only ice sing.
“Hiccup!” Astrid called out, unable to bear it, but although her voice echoed through the ice tunnels, there was no response. Astrid carefully surveyed the walls, searching for breaks, for sign of weakness, but the ice was immovable, vast. Astrid swallowed down the fear, the instinct to stay quiet, lest the ice respond, and crack, and break.
Was this a mistake?
—no. You’re here now.
Face it.
But what she found within the heart of the glacier was neither the hulking form of an ice beast nor the hollow emptiness she had feared.
What she found—was a face.
At the core of the glacier was a throne of ice upon a frozen dais, delicate yet commanding... atop which sat a figure draped in flowing robes as pale as the snow. Her garments were soft and flowing and light—better suited for autumn or spring, rather than the deepest core of a glacier. Astrid knew, beyond all doubt, that this creature… was not human.
Not human, not human, how, how, not human—
Stormfly drew back, screeching a warning, as Astrid's keen, analyzing, calculating gaze took in the sight of the woman—a monster in disguise?—at the center of this impossible fortress. The woman—this being—stared back.
Despite the Nadder’s every instinct, Stormfly followed Astrid’s formidable will and took them to the icy floor before the impossible throne. Without letting her nerves overwhelm her, before she had the chance to doubt, Astrid dismounted in a single fluid motion, her axe at the ready; this deep into the glacier’s core, the metal was already showing signs of burgeoning frost.
Although she wasn’t sure what she’d been expecting, exactly, she still hadn’t believed that the figure would rise from her throne. The woman lifted herself, her movements graceful yet commanding. Unnatural.
Astrid tightened her grip on her axe, ready to defend.
“You are lost,” said the woman. Her melodious, soft voice carried all throughout the cavern, against and through the reflective ice. All at once, the walls and floor seemed to shimmer with sunrise hues—glimmers of soft pinks, light blues, fresh lilacs.
Her hair, as white as the frost itself, cascaded down her shoulders, crowned with intricate icicles that sparkled in the dim light. But it was her eyes—cool, piercing blue, as light as the glacial ice itself, and glowing with the same unnatural power—
“I am seeking someone,” Astrid announced loudly, fiercely, with more bravado than she felt. Not human, not human, not human— “A man, riding a black dragon. His trail led me here.”
The woman’s surprise seemed genuine, but Astrid wasn’t ready to trust.
(Who are you! What are you!)
“I’m sorry,” the woman said, with soft confusion, with (feigned?) sympathy. Astrid’s gloved hand, her cold and aching fingers, tightened over the wooden handle of her axe. The air was so cold, Astrid half-wondered if the metal blad might simply shatter at first contact. Stay calm, stay calm, not human, not human—
The woman's expression softened slightly, as if hearing Astrid’s very thoughts.
“You are safe from me, warrior,” she promised, and Astrid carefully eyed the sympathetic slant of her brows, the reassuring tilt of her smile. Astrid inhaled, unsure, and exhaled, determined. “But you should not be here.”
“I’ll be on my way,” the words left Astrid’s throat before she could piece the puzzle together, “as soon as you explain who… and what… you are.”
The woman’s smile disappeared; the soft line of her mouth flattened into something stiff, her gaze hardening, sharpening. The air seemed colder.
“You must leave,” said the woman, soft yet unmistakably a command. “Your friend is not here. Leave at once and forget this place. I shall not be here if you return.”
Thousands of questions begged to spill from Astrid’s lips, but the woman—the queen?—turned her back on her—Astrid’s hackles instinctively raised at the slight, at the offense, at the dismissal—and she glided across the perfect, unmarred ice back to her throne. Astrid stepped forward, compelled into action, as the woman lowered herself on the seat with an unnatural, eerie grace.
“Please!” Astrid’s face twisted with confusion, with indignation, with annoyance, and—although she’d never dare—perhaps a tiny bit of trepidation. “You may not have sensed him, but I know he’s here. We were—that is—our home is under attack.”
The woman—she must be a Queen, she must have been, she must be—looked on, her eyes widening, as Astrid dared move even closer, approaching the dais. Astrid hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. But there was something in the Queen’s presence—a strange, cold purity of truth that persuaded her to speak.
Her instincts had never steered her wrong… so far.
“The carnage led us north, where we found destruction all through the frozen lands… There was a sign of struggle, a great battle—we thought… we thought the damage was borne from an Alpha—an Ice King,” she admitted.
The queen’s smile was faint but genuine—and a little bit sharp.
“I am no Alpha. And I am no King.”
Astrid was in no danger, but its prospect hovered in the air, tingling on her skin, threatening the possibility.
“Please,” Astrid insisted. “I’ll leave you be,” she declared, not knowing if it was a lie. “Tell me what you know of the battle that took place outside these walls—who you faced, and how—so that I can find him. I’ll never return.”
From the way the woman’s brow raised archly, it seemed both of them seemed to sense the mistruth in Astrid’s claim; the Queen’s chin raised, considering; her keen eyes, defiant. Sharp. Astute.
Damn. Only honesty, then. No trickery.
Only honor, and duty, and valor.
“I will tell you what I know,” said the ice Queen. “But you will not like what you hear.”
Astrid swallowed, brow furrowed, and nodded. Her armor was growing frost, and it was starting to sting.
“I am bound to the ice,” she declared, and her expression slipped into something cold, something aloof. “As I have been, for an age… I know nothing of your politics, your land disputes, and I no longer care for anything beyond these walls. But I can confirm that when unwanted visitors encroach upon that which is mine—I shall respond in kind.”
“So… it was you?”
Behind her, the air itself seemed to shimmer, and then crack—like a frozen lake underfoot.
Astrid’s breath hitched as she watched the very essence of the ice condense, swirling like a storm gathering strength.
From nothingness, a massive form began to materialize—
Astrid gasped escaped her, as Stormfly shrieked, as the unnatural surge of power took shape, coalescing into the distinct outline of a dragon.
Its form—its body?—a thing of haunting beauty, shimmering with unnatural, almost ethereal light as it slinked forward. The dragon's head was massive and menacing, its piercing eyes glowing with an intense, cold light.
Its mouth was filled with sharp, ice-like teeth, lined within a jaw no doubt capable of unleashing a blizzard with a single breath. The ice demon of a dragon let out a piercing, shrieking warning call—to Astrid, to Stormfly, who was furiously cowering and spitting at the stranger’s might, unable to summon flames in so deep a cold—but from its horrible, beautiful maw, the ice dragon spat frost like sparks.
Astrid breathed hard, trying to keep her heartbeat steady as it leered forward, curling itself protectively around the throne and the woman upon it, its mighty claws never once gauged the perfect ice beneath. The beast's wings expanded, curling about the dais, each membrane almost translucent, laced with veins of ice.
Astrid was highly aware of Stormfly’s extreme displeasure, of Stormfly’s fright and distrust, even with her confidence in Astrid’s steady presence.
Look, Stormfly, look, she willed silently to the Nadder behind her, as she stared at the ice dragon's scales—a deep, frigid blue, glistening like frozen crystals in the pale light, rolling from deep indigos to pale lavenders. Don’t you see? Maybe this is what we were looking for—maybe she’s…
The ice around her rippled with power and, Astrid realized, in that moment—
She was the ice.
The ice dragon—is her!
Astrid’s heart raced. Is this—is she—an Alpha, after all? (A new, unknown species? Is she the dragon, or is it a part of her? An extension of her? The power emanating from this Queen and her dragon was unlike anything she had ever encountered. Hiccup! Did you see?
Were you here?
Do you know!)
“What are you? Who are you?” Astrid demanded, breath shaky, awed and alarmed as the ice dragon coiled more fully around the Ice Queen, radiating calm menace—and a deep, deep core of protection. Stormfly growled lowly, still clicking her displeasure, but fell briefly subdued when the veil of danger lessened... despite the ice dragon's dark, eerie presence.
This is it! Astrid's mind whirled through the possibilities, the calculations. If they could convince her to join them—if Astrid could convince her that they should be allies—
The Queen’s gaze held hers, steady and calm, as she folded her hands delicately atop her lap, resting upon her knees.
“I was once known as the Snow Queen,” she intoned, her voice steeped in quiet, ancient power, now impossible to ignore. “But those days are lost to time… and you, Dragon Warrior, stand in my domain. If you wish to find your friend, you must listen to the counsel, and the warning, I shall grant you.”
Ignoring her better judgments, yet heeding her instincts—
Astrid did.

Roughly 1000 after his death, Emperor HIksti Hræðilegt Haddock III remains one of the most relevant and influential figures of history. From being the social pariah of his tribe to becoming an emperor, his story had captured the hearts and imagination of countless people.
With Nowflix announcement of creating a live-action series about the emperor and his dragon riders. The Daily NIghtfury recount how pop culture portrayed the emperor Hiksti Haddock III in the last 300 years.
How to train your dragon series (1704) by Cressida Howell
300 years later, Cressida Howell’s ‘How to train your dragon’ is still influential in how pop culture view the emperor. As one of the more popular children’s books in the North and South America, it ignited an interest about the life of the late Hiksti Haddock III.
Charming, dutiful, sarcastic and slightly awkward. The Hiskti Haddock III from ‘How to train your dragon’ (1704) by Cressida Howell is an adventurer and an engineer who wanted to explore the world and just happened to be a very endearing character. Originally released in America as a children’s book, it was a breath of fresh air compared to the gritty portrayals of the emperor in a serious and dramatic historical novel of Europe in the late 1600’s and early 1700s. It was released in Europe 5 years after its American release with mixed reviews from European critics. Though a century later, Europe have warmed up to the slightly whimsical portrayal of the emperor.
Where no one goes (1806) by Richard Broom
Introduced in 1856 to a polarising audience, it goes against the common depiction of Emperor Hiksti as a charismatic military commander in a dramatic historical novel full of glory of the war. ‘Where no one goes’ simply portrays King Hiksti III as a man in his 30s and so full of melancholy, unlike the popular novels which focused more during his youth and great battles he fought and less about his older self during the time of peace. Battle hardened and weary, ‘where no one goes’ depicts the brutally of war as the now adult King Hiksti recounts his youth. Of sleepless days where he dreams of enemy soldiers who burned to death by dragon fire, his question of morality as he builds another weapon of destruction and in the end of the novel ends with the emperor longing for the simpler times of his youth.
Highland seas series (1989) by Rachel Brook
Derided by the critics as a shallow bodice ripper novel, nonetheless it managed to have a dedicated readers to become a series. Set in an alternate universe where Hiksti Haddock III did not become a king and instead became a runaway before the final test against the monstrous nightmare, he finally become an adventurer he was meant to be. Readers have bemoaned the lost potential of the novel, setting aside the wonderful worldbuilding from the first chapters to focus on romance and softcore porn.
The Great King (2007) by Hiksti Blackwood
‘The Great King’ by Hiksti Blackwood took Emperor Hiksti’s steady image and shook it to its core. It’s a historical novel about Emperor Hiksti Haddock III but also works as a study on childhood and coming of age in medieval society, child marriages and traumas of war.

God I love HTTYD the movie but I'll never forget reading the book for the first time in 6th grade and being lowkey a little upset cause I was just "WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN POKEMON BUT ITS VIKINGS AND DRAGONS WHY DID THE MOVIE CHANGE THAT"
I think HTTYD the movie is very Pokemon core but especially getting a dragon in the books reminded me so much of Pokemon and lowkey I want them to make a more direct adaptation of the books for like a show or something

school of dragons baby whispering death model t pose my beloved
whispering deaths will forever and ever be my number one fave dragon. they were so important in riders/defenders and i thought they were just the COOLEST. they have rows and rows of teeth that rotate to dig through the ground which is so often SOLID ROCK on those islands in the barbaric archipelago and blow RINGS of FIRE?? ALSO THE LACK OF IRISES AND PUPILS UUUGH THE GHOSTLY EYES!!
i love these sharp noodles <3<3
7. Do you have any OCs? If so, talk about their appearance, backstories, and personalities.
ermintrude!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
she's a bog burglar who's a musician!! she plays the lute mostly but she dabbles in other things!! the flute, pan flute, the lur (basically a wooden trumpet vikings played!!), and more!! she genuinely enjoys making and playing music and she uses it to her advantage! she plays in public places to distract people while her fellow bog burglars are pickpocketing :)
she's born and raised a bog burglar, her mother is a bog burglar & she doesn't know and doesn't care to know who her bio father is bc no bog burglar does bc ew men. she's as vocal as any bog burglar comes and is not a fan of men. she's quick-witted, dry, passive aggressive, and very empathetic, despite trying to hide it due to a slight worry of judgement from her fellow bog burglars (some do judge, not all). she's all talk and doesn't have much of a bite but her talk will have you so confused she escapes or you'll be on the floor crying.
smth i've mentioned but haven't gone in depth abt is her fear of dragons. it runs deep and is paralyzing, due to witnessing a friend of her's and camicazi's be killed by a hideous zippleback during a dragon raid (bog burglars experienced similar dragon raids like the hooligans). when rumors circulate abt berk amassing a dragon army/training dragons she laughs and finds it to be the most ridiculous notion of all time.
until she meets snotlout and hookfang. hookfang helps her slowly get over her fear, although she nevers gets a dragon herself. she thinks snotlout is pathetic but can be alright (for a boy, of course :)) they're never in a fully commited relationship but when they're around each other they have each other's full attention & when ermintrude realizes she's fallen in love... he fell first, she fell harder. but at her core she can't bring herself to leave her life as a bog burglar and it's why they never marry. but they write to each other. she writes songs for him and he'll write poetry to act as lyrics & she's one of the only ppl he'll do that for.
depending on the au they have a child together :)
i'm still working on her and her story but!! i like developing characters as i write & figuring out how they respond to situatuons rlly quickly narrowing down their personalities!! i gotta do more with her ;_;
11. What are your favourite locations in the Barbaric Archipelago?
oooooo......
(old) berk is def one of them!! i used to want to live there so badly!! i love the cove so much and i'm saddened it never came back in the films (it did come back in riders/defenders :'))
dragon island looks cool as fuck esp the concept art
Tumblr media
dragon's edge is also cool!! as a teenager i also yearned to be there </3
