My OC’s Versions of the “I Can Fix Him!” Trope

Katherine: He better fix himself before I start contributing. I am NOT doing all these renovations by myself.

Xiulan: I’m trying to fix him but he’s making it very difficult. I’m more likely to snap him like a twig at this point.

Cierra: No fixing needed. We’re too busy painting each other’s nails.

Shuǐ: Why would I fix him? It’s more fun wondering what he could possibly fuck up next.

he knows he's losing time. a haze sometimes settles over him , and he can feel his body move , see everything as it happens , but nothing catches. it reminds him of the earlier years , when it was almost kinder to not be present. but , he doesn't know , why this , why now. endeavour is not here , can never be --

it's not until @4heroes's question penetrates through the fog that shōto seems to finally be aware. he's sitting in the classroom , somehow now devoid of students even though it had only be full what feels like moments before. midoriya is the only one standing in front of him , eyes concerned. he glances at the clock -- it's closer to the end of the lunch hour , but shōto doesn't even remember anything that happened in the morning classes.

there's silence for a few minutes more before shōto realises that midoriya may be looking for an answer. ( he doesn't know. he could have stayed here the entire night and not known ). his voice is somehow hoarse as he states , ' i didn't feel like eating. ' it has the decency to be true. shōto hasn't been eating , not much.

Uraraka: Woah! Todoroki you can’t say that !

Midoriya: Oh! Uhm, actually Uraraka? A lot of queer folks are reclaiming the word as a way to take power back from oppressors and give it to our marginalized community, so by saying it, Todoroki actually-

When Shouto opens his eyes it's to Katsuki's bright red.

The fingers stop at his ear and do not move further.  Nothing is said for the longest time. The quiet was getting more and more familiar. Not as strange anymore when Katsuki had no words to say.

He moves in slowly, pressing forehead against forehead.

“Don’t fuckin leave okay?” He hears Katsuki say.

“Never” Shouto replies.

Ok so I’m this post I showed off my Spider-Sona. Originally it was for a Spider-Man x Mha AU. Specifically one in which Todoroki was Spider-Man. It was only recently that I really started to come up with story for that au. I wanted to share what I have so far, but I’ll probably be splitting it into parts since the google doc is like 8 pages. So this first part will be before UA.

The MHA earth is gonna be Earth-2016, and it’s basically gonna be canon mha. So quirks are still a thing. But now todo has his quirk + spider powers.

He got them a year before UA. And that was when endeavor took him to his agency, shouto got in trouble for doing something at the house and Enji decided that he would not be left alone, and got bit by a radioactive Spider.

The spider in question was brought in as evidence from a drug lab bust that was performed about a week prior. The only reason they noticed the spider was because it was kept in a container and had the “warning radioactive” sticker in it. The agency looked at the files but there wasn’t much on the spider. On that day, the spider managed to somehow escape its enclosure, and while a completely unaware shouto was wandering the halls the spider bit him.

So he feels pretty normal the rest of the day, but that night he starts to feel sick. He goes to bed and the next morning he’s magically feeling better. (Also in this au his vision in his left eye was damaged from the boiling water.) He wakes up and can suddenly see perfectly out of his left eye. He goes to get out of bed when he hears a rip. He looks at the bed sheet in his had to see that he had ripped them with a pair of talons that had grown on his hands. (The talons are retractable and not as big as Miguel’s) He shoots out of bed and runs for the door, his hand gets stuck to the door knob for a second before he finally gets free and makes a beeline for the bathroom. His mouth had felt weird since he woke up. It was unnaturally dry and felt as if it was overcrowded. So he looks in the mirror and sees a large set of fangs protruding from his top gums and a smaller but still unreasonably big set on from his bottom gums. (Unfortunately for our poor boy these are not retractable. He has a venom that is released through his fangs. He also has natural spinnerets in his arms now)

Anyway: time skip, he gets his suit made (it has web shooters built into it as a back up)

(Also in this au todoroki is more similar to my todoroki, so he’s pretty loud. But because of the fangs he now has to hide he started speaking much softer. (No one really noticed a change at home since shouto definitely wasn’t very loud there, and since he was homeschooled he didn’t have to worry about any classmates noticing) so that will explains why he’s so quiet and kinda mumbles in the show.)

So he becomes the Spider-Man of (whatever Japanese city he’s nearest to as well as a few others) and you may be asking “well what’s his uncle Ben moment?” Well when he’s starting out, he hasn’t the slightest idea of how to be a vigilante though he does try his best. Eventually a much more experienced vigilante( idk her name yet or her quirk) feels kinda bad for him and decides to take him under her wing. They get really close and she kinda becomes the mother/aunt figure that shouto has never had but always desperately wanted. Until one night they’re both working together to try and take down a gang that’s been extorting people for “protection”. There’s a lot of gang members and the two are out numbered but they’re managing. That is until someone either shoots his mentor or she gets impaled by someone’s quirk. She goes down and shouto sees red. He takes down the gang, webs them up and runs over to her.

She dies in his arms.

The person that killed her fled as soon as shouto began overpowering the gang. Shouto chases after her killer and eventually corners them. He hangs them high above the ground, and he wants to freeze them to death, or drop them, he’ll he’s even mad enough to burn them. But he stops. Killing this person would make him just as bad as them. And it’s definitely not what his mentor would want.

So he ties the thug up and leaves a note.

This is the first time Spider-Man makes the front page of the news, It’s all Japan can talk about for weeks.

And also right before UA he actually gets recruited to the Spider Society. So he has the “Goober” or dimensional travel watch. (He gets invited a few months after across the spider-verse happens as well as the events of beyond the spider verse. Miguel and miles have made up and are working on it) So he also is constantly wearing the watch. Miguel along with noir are his spider mentors. Miguel helps with the talon and fang aspects of his powers (how to properly retract his talons and how to deal with the fangs and how to hide them. Noir trains him with hand to hand combat, detective skills (noir is a private eye), stealth, and also pickpocketing and a couple of other tricks.

So the typical Spider-Man villains aren’t the big guys in this au. The League of Villains is still the biggest concern. And while shouto does fight them sometimes. His villains are still threats but definitely aren’t as well known or as feared as the league. Anomalies are also still occurring, So sometimes another spiders villain will pop into another’s dimension.

That was the easy part, and Izuku didn't even know how to communicate the difficult part. Should he start with explanations? Go over why he had turned up out of the blue, covered in blood, and looked as though he had not slept in days...again. Offer reasons as to why Japan's no.1 hero was not defending his home country, and instead, fleeing off to a foreign one like some sort of outlaw?

"I...don't know where to start." His head was a mess. "Can I borrow your shower first?"

          it’s been...well, years since he last saw Todoroki. the years after graduation had been a whirlwind of excitement and fear and change — Izuku heading off to America, Todoroki apparently training in both America and Korea and before he knew it, he hadn’t seen his friend’s face in more months than he could count. guilt simmers low in his gut, travels through every fidget of his limbs as he stands in front of Todoroki’s agency.

          it’s impressive, the building a tribute to all the work Todoroki must’ve put into the building, standing tall and proud. honestly, he’s a bit starstruck. Izuku hadn’t left nearly as big of a mark anywhere as Todoroki did with what this building suggests.

          — and yet he’s still fidgeting on the sidewalk before the front doors, wondering exactly what he’ll say to his friend if he ever gets the courage to go inside. that’s even including if Todoroki is even there, since this is definitely a surprise call.

          ❝  okay, Izuku! stop being a coward and go in!  ❞  he tells himself, slapping both hands against freckled cheeks, brow setting into determination. straightening his shoulders, he enters the building, and soon he’s standing awkwardly in a lobby while a secretary tracks down Todoroki. he’s got it in his head now. he’s not leaving until he sees his friend and no anxiety is gonna change that.

Himiko moved slightly closer to the boy, he looked so familiar but at the same time he didn't. She shrugged it off though, looking his body over. Her nose scrunched up just slightly.

"And what is with your clothes? Why are they so dirty?"

Tonight's whumpril post: chapter one of "Of Balrogs and Other Setbacks", a further sequel to "Stranded" and "There and Back Again".

I don't have a full outline, but the first chapter is about 70% written. I should have everything else figured out by the time I post around 8pm my time (GMT -5).

I'm envisioning 3 chapters, and not sure if they'll post in succession or be broken up.

it is fair to assume that katsuki had no plans to stay awake for an entire night . he , who doesn't like to stay up until ungodly hours of the night , who doesn't see a point in such trivial rumours and baseless assumptions , had - true to him - no plan to pull through the new year's night to see a sunrise . why would he be awake at dawn just to see a new day in a new year ? the earth doesn't stop spinning .

but shouto asks . maybe he is asking for some truth , or maybe he is asking for honesty , or both - whichever suits the blond more / katsuki sits in the space offered to him with crossed arms . it must seem like he is thinking of a response , the way his brows furrow and his jaw tenses a fraction and his gaze never quite lifts to meet heterochromatic gaze , but perhaps it is more accurate to say he is debating on whether he should invoke the full honesty of his reply . weaving opinions in with the fact he hadn't experienced it before , or omitting a truth to make way for the sharp judgement behind a sentiment of a new year's sunrise .

❛ dunno , ❜ katsuki finally admits . ❛ never bothered to stay up for the first sunrise before . sounds like some weird-ass superstition to me . ❜

but how could he prove it as superstition if he's never seen it before ? he finally glances at shouto , observes , bites his tongue ... [ because if he stays up and the sunrise is exactly what he expects , he can prove his point , that it is just another morning . but if it meets this expectation that it is different - perhaps more beautiful - then katsuki would have at least spent that first sunrise by shouto's side . ] ... and he huffs . ❛ i'll prove it . ❜

the night will be filled with bouts of light and broken sleep , but he will stay awake before dawn creeps across the horizon , and he will wake shouto up to see it , and then he can reveal the truth - whatever it might be . and either way , there would be a sense of success / he would be right , or this first sunrise would meet shouto's expectations , and katsuki would've shared it with him .

how could he lose ?

❛ i'll wake you up to see it , and i'll show you it's just another day . ❜ katsuki shifts to lay down where he can fit , using one of the young todoroki's legs as a headrest / he glances up with a glint of determination in his gaze . ❛ so hurry the hell up 'n sleep . you'll see what the hell i mean . ❜

and in the end , katsuki will wake shouto minutes before the sun rises , and he will drag the boy outside to see it from one of their dorm balconies , and he will find that he doesn't have the words for the view he sees . because , even though he may still believe it as a rumour , that morning's dawn was mesmerising / the rays bleed through the scattered clouds on the horizon , tint them various colours of yellow and orange and pink , further brightening the sky to showcase its never-ending bright blue .

[ and it is worth it , to see the way it shines back in shouto's eyes ; a reveal of something he wasn't sure was true . a good omen that the new year would be a good one for them both . ]

Izuku's expression seemed innocent enough. "What?" he replied back to Nacchan. "I don't have to announce your differences to everyone here, but I thought at least Shouto might like knowing some hints."

"He guessed pretty well on his own anyways..." He glanced at Shouto. "Do you wanna know some differences or would you rather learn on your own?"

Icyhot both dismantled the entire ass game and pointed out his brother in one fell swoop. How. The. Fuck.

Of course, then Izuku, the only person who could tell them apart reliably, stepped in and confirmed the ruse. Natsuki couldn't help his disgruntled look at that, especially when he went to start spewing the differences between the two. Ruinin' half their damn fun, no fuckin' fair.

"Y'do that n'ya ruin the whole damn game," he huffed out in annoyance. "The fuck, 'Zuku?"

He blinks, once. Twice. Three times, and still the tightness in his chest will not dissipate. It feels as though his ice has grasped his heart in a vice grip, and he lacks the fire to melt them away.

Forgive himself? He wants to laugh at the absurdness of such a statement, but he cannot get air to move through his lungs. He has spent so long believing that his view was right, that he had been wronged and this path was the only way to correct it. To abandon that now would be akin to killing himself. Who was he without the hatred, the anger?

Finally, the words come. And with them that cold, unfeeling mask that feels like home. "I have nothing to forgive myself for. You need to stop chasing me, I am not that scared little boy at the festival anymore. Shouto is dead, I burned him away a long time ago."
