Mm, let's go with some stuff about when I thought of Hope's Renegades things. Implied major nexomon extinction spoilers and also fic spoilers below.

(sorry I rambled about a fic you have no investment in, I only realised after I wrote this entire thing)

Amelie being a Renegade? The same day I made the document for the fic, so the same day the fic progressed from a vague vibes-based "nexomon four protagonists au" to an actual idea. Hope didn't even have a name at the time, that's how early this was!

I'd come up with the premise of Renegades being like this, the idea that Ross Coco and Nora were going to be the Renegades of the protagonist, and the fact the protagonist was going to be very mute.

I briefly considered Storm for Hope's name, but by the time I started writing the second chapter I'd decided on Hope, partially because it made the title sound really cool (I hadn't had a title at the time, but I'd been considering some things). Also, I don't know why Hope-verse keeps having spoilery titles... Some people got it immediately, others did not.

A little over a week after properly starting the fic, I had four and a half chapters written and one posted. This would set the speed for the remainder of Hope's Renegades. How I planned, wrote, edited, and posted 138k in less than 5 months... I just hyperfocused the fic. Really hyperfocused the fic, like I'd never done before.

What Amelie does in the finale I thought of very shortly after that, before I'd finished writing chapter 5, in the middle of the night. Yes, I had in fact been planning this practically from the beginning. Yes, it was really difficult not to tell people, but thankfully for most of that time the only nexomon person I was talking to already knew because I tell her everything.

I was trying to foreshadow it as much as I reasonably could, short of psychic intervention, but when it's something as out-of-nowhere as that... there's only so much you can do. I've been focusing on Amelie a lot throughout the fic, but to expect her to not only redeem herself but to do that - I tried to establish it as a possibility (repeating the fact that Vados was vulnerable to his own powers multiple times, for example), but it wouldn't have seemed likely.

And I believe a little after thinking of Amelie's choice, I came up with the idea for the Sunset Arc, which I then made sure to build and plan towards.

Conversely, some of the things that seem like they should have been planned for ages actually really weren't.

Strawberry Cake, which happened pre-canon, was first thought of when I was writing the third arc (at which point I started referencing it whenever possible).

The turning point in Bolzen's revival was thought of on the spot as I was writing it.

So was Nora's realisation about Hope being more vulnerable to Tyrant sensors without their Renegades! I did purposefully say they weren't easily sensable when separated from their Renegades because of the Renegades thing, but I only figured out the implications for the Sunset Arc when Nora did. Which is probably why it flowed so well.

So were... a lot of things, actually. A fair few scenes that weren't in the chapters when I initially wrote them. A couple of chapters that kinda weren't, for example making the Mysteries Arc two chapters longer. A lot of directions conversations went, like Ada finding out about Ulrich. Characters just do things.

So Yeah. thank you for the ask!

FALLOUT

Tony Stark went missing and it was Steve's turn to go find him. Traveling around America in his search for his friend, he found himself fighting an off-shoot sect of hydra, where his enemies captured and froze him once more. They chose to display him as a prize in one of their secret Vaults, where Steve lay for hundreds of years. Discovered by two wanderers, Steve was thawed--but was still bent on finding his friend. One trek to New York and back--with Tony in tow--Steve settled into the Commonwealth, taking over as the General in the Minute Men and beginning the rebuilding effort in true Avengers' fashion. 

STATS & GENERAL

in general, stats like ENDURANCE, STRENGTH, and AGILITY are his highest, with CHARISMA and PERCEPTION being his next highest.

fallout characters would be familiar with captain america, not just as a wwii figure, but a figure also just before pre-war and nuclear fallout. he was also most likely used as a propaganda figure upon going missing.

verse is built with @homestations' zetta and riley as dual sole survivors ocs and @overclocks' tony stark. general interactions will take place after steve has been thawed and retrieved tony from new york.

FACTIONS & WORK

MINUTEMEN - steve’s main faction. his goals align quite well with them, and he finds a kindred spirit in preston garvey. they both work hard to rebuild the minutemen, preston with his knowledge of the commonwealth and steve with his ability to inspire and rally. he, reluctantly, takes on the role of general, working on getting the minutemen up into a fighting force in the commonwealth. he seeks to use the minutemen to allow settlers to settle in more places, effectively rebuilding farms and homes and gaining some semblance of normalcy.

RAILROAD - steve is not subtle enough for any sort of railroad work. as much as he believes in their goal--which he does, incredibly so, ai’s have always been people to him, so why not synths--nothing about a man wearing a red white and blue flag says ‘i’m ready for spy work.’ beyond that, after working with shield, working with another bunch of sneaky secret-y types who won’t tell him the whole truth about a situation sets him on edge.

BROTHERHOOD OF STEEL - no.

THE INSTITUTE - honestly, he’s worked with a lot of nerds and big brains in his day, and he knows that a whole group of them clustered underground is just a big feedback loop that created this whole mess. in his mind, they’re not bad or evil, just misguided and disconnected from what’s truly going on and the average commonwealth experience.

RESIDENCE

THE CASTLE is the main place of residence--steve once more continues the tradition of living where he works. however, the castle has undergone renovations in order to support larger numbers living there. under the planning of steve, preston, and ronnie (and the engineering genius of tony stark) the castle’s walls are rebuilt, power restored, canons installed alongside running water, and a farm is created. perhaps the biggest, most important undertaking is ensuring that the radio tower is up and running, allowing the castle to send broadcasts all around the commonwealth, announcing their return.

GOALS

create a wide and easily accessible communication network - primarily operating over radio, steve’s goal is to set up waystations around the commonwealth that tap into a specific frequency used just for minutemen emergency calls. it allows for more connection directly with the people who need their help the most, and can allow for groups to be deployed to the right location “at a minute’s notice.” also if tony says it’s the hotline 2.0, then so be it.

secure trade routes & expand safe zones - for no fee, the minutemen will guard caravans and traders from settlement to settlement upon request. they’ll protect general routes from wild animals, other factions, and create small waystations for shelter during bad storms. in order for more people to settle in larger numbers without having to live behind walls, there needs to be an effort of expanding safe areas to live. only after the feral ghouls and other factions have been cleared out can people reclaim buildings and begin rebuilding and expanding their living areas.

build homes - there’s a lot to rebuild, but the most important thing to steve is making sure everyone has a home. not just four walls and a ceiling over their head, but a place to safely raise a family, to feel safe in, to thrive and not just survive. he wants to make living easier, and that’ll happen by getting running water and electricity for everyone.

reinvest in nature and wildlife - not only humans suffered when the bombs dropped--the flora and fauna were affected too. by encouraging the greenery to make a comeback, more wildlife will follow suit. the main goal is to give parts of the city back over to nature by making parks and natural green space, not just more farmland.

tony stark goes missing. with protests rising about increasing military violence and the superhuman community thrown into upheaval, steve sets out on a mission to find him. instead he is frozen in ice by an off-shoot hydra sect. hydra, in their arrogance, arrange for a frozen steve to be brought to vault 109, where he will serve as decor while hydra prepares their own secret vault for long term research, development, and defense--though the front is fashioned to look like a department store. unfortunately for hydra, the bombs went off before they could fully outfit the operation, leaving the vault mostly empty with its frozen prisoner.

it’s by accident that steve is thawed--found by two wanderers in the glowing sea seeking shelter for the night. they help him adjust to life in the wasteland. steve, of course, can’t be deterred; he had one solid lead before his accident, and he won’t be put off for long in finding tony--if there even is a tony left to be found. he spends only a month with zetta and riley before hiring the former gunner maccready to assist him in his travel to new york, seeking out the stark building’s basement. and lo and behold, he does find tony stark, in a statis tube of his own making, still intact and able to be brought back to consciousness. once tony is awake and stable enough to travel, the three make their way back to the commonwealth, to do what avengers do best--assemble.

I’m still fixing up my verses page for Eva but until that is properly set up, I’m just gonna write up a quick list of what verses I have for her and what they include:

seasons 1-5/6: these verses are set throughout seasons 1 of tvd right up to season 5. basically each season will have it’s own tag/verse. even though eva is mainly seasons 1-5, i will have a verse for season 6 as that is the season when eva comes back to life after dying at the augustine during early season five however it will be heavily canon divergent and selective on who i write with in that verse.

human verse: basically an au where damon never turns eva (he attempts to feed on her during his escape but her blood burns him and she’s able to get away) and she is human throughout the series.

pre tvd verse: this pretty much says it all - a verse set before the start of tvd 1x01. it can be set from anywhere from eva’s childhood, right up to the start of the series or just before really.

emotionless verse: eva shuts off her humanity when her father dies. this verse is mainly set during season one (as the lost of her father becomes too much for eva to bear, especially after just turning into a vampire hybrid) but can really be set during any season.

older verse: eva during her older years, like 30+ or so. this would be linked with her human verse as eva is, well, human in this one.

the originals verse: crossover verse with the originals. she originally heads over to new orleans after hearing there might be some info on her kind there but of course ends up being caught up in the storm happening there with the mikaelsons. this is set during any season of the originals.

teen wolf verse: crossover verse with teen wolf. eva overhears klaus planning to turn the werewolf residents of beacon hills as part of his hybrid army so she heads over first to warn them. this is set during any season of teen wolf.

twilight verse: twilight crossover: basically when the cullens are searching for other hybrids like renesmee to help prove to the volturi that she’s not a threat, as well as to get some assurance for themselves that renesmee will live a happy life, they come across eva: who hates being a hybrid, thinks she’s a freak of nature and has some serious anger issues.

hey yall! I officially hit 750 followers (a few days ago, I blew past the benchmark without even realizing!), which is... insane. I truly can’t believe that so many people over the last year have enjoyed my presence in this fandom enough to continue to follow my work. you guys are so great and I love you all so much, so I decided to put together a gift for you!

this is a list of my favorite geraskier fics from the fandom, which I have been putting together over the last year or so. a few of these are big in the fandom, but a lot of them are smaller pieces that I feel deserve more attention! I have provided ao3 and tumblr links where I could find them, as well as ratings and summaries. Most of these are canon!verse because I’m not personally a big fan of modern au’s, but there will be a few of those scattered throughout as well. Another fascinating addition to the mythology of the Witcher. Jaskier’s slow rediscovery of himself is so well done here. One I’ve come back to again and again.

This is one I read early on in the fandom, and it really stuck with me. The dynamic between Jaskier and Geralt is perfect, and the misunderstandings between them feel so realistic. The non-con is not extreme, but do mind the warnings.

When Geralt crosses paths with Jaskier in the spring, the world is dressed in green. Quite literally. Everyone everywhere is wearing green, and it all comes down to a song Jaskier has written that, to his mortification, has become popular throughout the Continent. It's torment, being forced to preform the song over and over again and have his heart broken anew. But who is this Lady Greensleeves the people say Jaskier is so maddeningly, heartbrokenly in love with? At the baron's wedding party, Geralt is determined to find out.

This is one of my personal faves - there’s just something about Jaskier’s feelings being put on blast while Geralt remains totally oblivious that I think is so very them. And the resolution at the end is delightful.

I Don’t Wanna Fall (If It’s Not In Love) | E | 13,902 | @writinglizards

The first time it's out of desperation. Things get rapidly out of hand from there.

OR the building of a relationship through mutual wank sessions.

I love everything Ashley writes, but this one was the first fic I read by her and it still has a warm place in my heart. I also highly recommend It’s Been A While (makes me cry every time) and Tell Me Honestly

Like a Storm, Like a Flood | T | 1065 | @valdomarx

Jaskier is leaving for the winter, and Geralt can't bear the thought of not seeing him for months.

It was soooo hard to pick only one fic by George, but this one is so soft and sweet and yearning I just had to go with it. This is really just about Geralt finally hitting a breaking point and saying enough is enough.

“Well, then. I’m a ghost.” Jaskier spread his arms grandly. Geralt held his gaze for a moment, then dropped his head and laughed. Jaskier put his hands on his hips. “Do fill me in on what’s so funny.” It wasn’t funny. It was just so - ridiculous, the things Geralt’s fucked up brain would invent. This had to be the last nail in the sanity coffin, it just had to be.

Or: Jaskier is a ghost, and Geralt is a mess.

Jaskier dies and comes back as a ghost to haunt Geralt into taking care of himself. Geralt does not handle this gracefully. This fic is so sad and heartbreaking, but the ending is so sweet.

Geralt wakes up warm, peaceful, and utterly content, which is how he knows that something is severely wrong.

Sigh. This fic. This is a time travel fic - Geralt ends up in the future living with Jaskier on the coast, just after the mountain. It’s slow and beautiful and extremely bittersweet, all about how we choose to love people despite how much it can hurt us.

With All the Continent A Stage | M | 4745 | @greyduckgreygoose

Later, Geralt learned that the play was four hours long. Four hours long. It didn’t feel like it. Most of it passed by in a fever dream of ominous music, dance-fighting and dryads in gossamer leaves, swinging from hoops attached to the ceiling. Yennefer made an appearance, played by Priscilla in a glittering negligee. She sang a song to Geralt about putting him “Under Her Spell”, and they had a sensual dance number which was made a little strange by a sickened Jaskier (played by Jaskier) coughing loudly in the background.

(Jaskier invites Geralt to a musical production inspired by his own life.)

Jaskier basically writes Geralt a love letter in the form of a four hour long play. Geralt is an idiot about it.

Multi-Chapter Fics

A Lover’s Lament | M | 25,364 | @somedrunkpirate

So,” Jaskier begins, as casually as he can, “you are telling me, that in theory, if I were to be in love with someone — anyone — that person could well be in terrible danger?”

Of all terrible and ridiculous things that have threatened Geralt’s safety, Jaskier’d never thought that loving him might be what will get him killed.

I honestly can’t count the number of times I’ve read this fic. The monster is so interesting, and the mythos of it fits seamlessly into the world of the Witcher in my mind. Jaskier being so afraid that his feelings are going to put Geralt at risk, clearly unable to see that Geralt is going through the exact same thing. I think about the scene with them looking at each other almost daily. 

A Pair of Gloves, the Scent of Roses | M | 24,134 | WARNING: Graphic Depictions of Violence

In the bustling days before the Midsummer festival, Geralt is sent into the countryside to deal with a monster - with Jaskier once again by his side. But the bard has not forgiven him, and while he's not hiding his contempt for the Witcher, he is recalcitrant about revealing his true motives for joining him. As the hunt turns into a desperate mission to save an innocent man and the monster is not what is seems to be, Geralt learns a few new things about his old friend and decides to finally attempt to mend the rift between them...

This is one of my favorite’s in the fandom - it feels so believable, the world is so rich and the oc’s are convincing and charming. Geralt and Jaskier feel so honest here, stumbling around each other but still drawn together. Beautiful beautiful beautiful

Bearing the will of the flower | NR | 11,449 

The way Jaskier sees it, his hobby of following a witcher around was always pretty likely to get him killed.

The fact that it's happening now because the witcher in question doesn't love him, he thinks as he coughs up crumpled flowers, hardly makes a difference.

My favorite hanahaki fic in the fandom. I’m such a sucker for these, and these two idiots being so incapable of talking about their feelings really makes them prime candidates. 

Food of Love | T | 22,488 | @wallatile-qvibbler

I brought a dead princess back to life through the power of song is the kind of thing that would have got an eyebrow raise even from the stone-faced Geralt of Rivia, so it's a good thing he and Geralt will probably never see each other again.

(or: the one where Jaskier channels magic through his songs, and it almost never goes as expected.)

This is a Jaskier and Renfri centric fic, which wasn’t something I knew I wanted until I read this. Jaskier is a bard which in this AU comes with magical powers, but it feels so well integrated into the universe that I wish it was just... how the Witcher is. Renfri is so good here, and even though Jaskier and Geralt barely even interact you can feel the tension and love between them. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Geralt is just supposed to pass through the quiet Lettenhove area. He's not anticipating being begged by its people to help save their viscount from a curse that keeps him from daylight. Lord Jaskier, they call him, and he's likely dying.

As Geralt struggles to untangle the ugly web of history that has lead to the increasingly complicated curse, he finds himself spending more and more time with the strange young viscount and wondering just what he might have been before the curse, and who he might be after. But things are not always as they seem, and as the curse tightens its grip on Jaskier, Geralt is forced to face the fear of failing yet another person whose choices were stolen from them.

Jaskier is kept from becoming a bard. Geralt finds him anyway.

This is a fic that haunts me. It’s very scary in parts, and mind the tags - there are some very heavy themes here. But it’s beautiful and touching, and Jaskier feels very true to himself even though his origin is so different.

Geralt and Jaskier fake marriage proposals to get free deserts and shit but it goes tits up when Vesemir catches them in the act. Not knowing how to fess up, they go along with it for a while, which is hell because they’re both pining like mad. As I said, I don’t love modern au’s, but it’s merry so of course this one had to end up on my list.

Under da cut for feral blueberries due to potential spoilers for stuff like Fate/Grand Oder and Persona 5

Feral Kamille #1: This goes to FGO verse Kamille. Now normally he’s calm and level headed but in those times where he snaps he snaps HARD. Using enhancements from several Casters and other Servants Kamille when properly enraged can be a force of violence especially following the element of him pummeling Goetia with little more than his Command Seals, Mash’s shield, and his own fists. In some ways it’s actually fitting that for my NA account named after him that his first 4 star Servant from the free summon was Heracles.

Feral Kamille #2: Persona 5 Kamille is probably the most intense of the Persona verse Kamilles when facing Shadows. This is because, similar to Makoto, he holds in a LOT of his anger issues from the public, namely because his father doesn’t want anything getting in his or his benefactors way. But in the Metaverse, with the unleashing of one’s hidden side? You’re better believe he can go full feral in combat, especially with his melee weapon being wrist mounted blades. I’d say he could rival Black Mask Akechi in savagery when fighting Shadows and while he’s calm outside of battle there’s a certain tenseness even then, a sense of the calm before the storm, waiting for the next fight.

Feral Kamille #3: Canon Kamille, especially pre character development is a feral little gremlin who will do his damn best to rearrange your face if you even so much as imply that his name sounds like a girl’s name. Like he is a menace in early Zeta because he’ll throw hands with just about everyone, including his own allies. Like no wonder he gets his ass beat a lot through Zeta by his own allies, I’d probably be urged to slap him too back during that point in time.

Vampire NHS. JGY staying at the Unclean Realm for the duration of a terrible storm, got unknowingly fed on at nights.

SangCheng timetravel. JC is a time traveler. CQL verse for the most part. Pre-time travel JC was married to NHS.

Post-canon NHS accidentally waking up to an AU world where he was the one who died instead of MMJ. Kinda like worlds collide thingy.

Some second son dynamics between LQR and NHS, relating over suddenly having the responsibility of managing the sect and discarding one's interests once thrust to the role of a sect leader.

Modern AU Niecest. NHS is an immortal and found NMJ's reincarnation who goes by the name of Xu Mingjue, made friends w/him but they fell in love w/each other instead. Mingjue first after finding someone who truly understand him.

Niecest route of Third Sun. Not connected to the main series so basically like an AU of an AU fic. The fear of falling in love with your husband who also happened to be your younger brother in the original timeline lol.

Another fic in the Orbiting Starburst series (Nie bros role reversal) but in Meng Yao's POV where he got recruited by Sect Leader NHS who was posing as a healer from Qinghe.

Time traveling post canon NHS. Time traveling to NMJ's younger years & was surprised kid NMJ could see him and thought of him a ghost.

Different take on Empathy by WWX. NMJ keeps seeing this ghost/mirage of a guy (WWX in Empathy) & is basically told that he's already dead and WWX is just in his mindscape. Like that thing where they said your life flashes back on you for 7 mins before you die, and NMJ is experiencing that 7 mins.

Short continuation fic of that Witch NHS. Where the Witch of Qinghe got invited to a party in the Unclean Realm, NMJ's bday (probably). Different kinds of awkwardness for young adult NMJ + WRH who still coveted the witch's power/magic.

Time traveling NHS. Post Sunshot in LXC's POV. NHS secretly murdered JGY (then MY) right after war victory.

wolfstar + story of another us

my greatest discovery of the day is the fact that story of another us by 5sos fits all too perfectly the story of wolfstar from remus’ pov. here’s why :

(disclaimer : this is way too long and maybe excessively useless but i’m posting it anyway, hoping that it’ll reach the people gravitating in both the marauders fandom & 5sosfam)

because i may have masochist tendencies, one of my favorite things about wolfstar is how doomed their relationship is -- okay, maybe not my favorite thing so to say, but it’s something that i’m a sucker for because it makes it all ten times more tragic than it already is (and i know y’all love it too, don’t lie to yourselves).

story of another us begins with an ending. the very first verse deals with the end of a relationship, compared to the dreaded end of a movie : 

Play the scene over again Before the credits rolling in Inside my head I don't recall a single word They hit me faster than I heard Inside my head

aside from the cool meta-reference it could simply be to the hp movies themselves (haven’t we all rewatched the shrieking shack scene over and over and over again), an ending being the subject of the first verse seems to anchor the relationship into the only thing canon wolfstar could ever be : relaying on second chances yet fated to be destroyed. it sounds so dramatic, i know, but that’s why it’s such a touching story.

and if you look closer into the lyrics, i can’t help but think of the fights that might have occurred during the first war just before all hell broke loose. the narrator here feels the words flash past them in the violence of the argument, and who other than mr. sirius orion black is there to lose his mind in such a way? the fact that they would end up so wary of each other to the point where they’d doubt the other’s trust could only result in heated arguments and repetitive scenes with either of them storming out of the room, flat, whatever. they couldn’t communicate, and when they did it involved cutting words coming from a place unknown to the other, all of this resulting in an impossibility to understand whatever one might say, thus ‘they hit me faster than I heard.’ their shared stubbornness and inability to get over themselves led them to terrible fights and possibly breakups and, despite pretending that they’re not affected by it, they so obviously are -- the scenes can only replay themselves in their minds as well as in the real world. it’s what they inevitably gravitate towards. the start of something new brings along its fated finitude : beginnings and endings come as one.

the first pre-chorus follows : 

And now I'm shaking, wearing thin I always wonder where you've been Tell me if you wanted it at all

easy enough : halloween 1981 happened, leaving remus in shambles and questioning whether or not it was all a lie from the start. and despite trying so hard to leave sirius behind, he can’t help but wonder, wonder, wonder again because how could it have been a lie? 

the first lines of the second verse follow the same idea and period in remus’ life (being the twelve years of thinking sirius was the killer) :

Memories are pay-per-view It costs too much to think of you I'm hanging by a thread

remus dwells on the past, analyzing every memory for a clue, something he might have missed while being terrified of what he might find, hence the ‘cost’ of thinking about sirius. 

then, looking into the chorus, i can’t help but see the ‘long-term plan’ of getting over yourself and your hurt crushed by the ‘short-term fixes’ of alcohol and whatever drugs which only bring relief for a few hours at a time. remus ends up with this ‘wasted heart’ battered by each full moon, each disappearance of the sun behind an all-encompassing, frightening ‘eclipse’. ‘trust’ turns to ‘dust’ in the tragically unlucky course of his life as he reminisces one of the multiple ‘us’ that he and sirius have been. 

I got a long-term plan with short-term fixes And a wasted heart that just eclipses And I'll push my luck from trust to dust enough That's the story of another us

but then sirius comes back. and he’s innocent. and here comes another cycle of trust turning to dust, another us. remus desperately needs the chaos of sirius escaping azkaban and of the overall panic striking the wizarding world to be the ‘one last ditch’, the last obstacle to ‘a new beginning’. once more, upon being given a second (third? sixth? fourteenth?) chance, they bleed into each other, unable to be together in any other way than completely, atomically and metaphorically -- only for that semblance of rebuilt trust to vanish into to dust again as sirius slipped into the veil.

One last ditch, a new beginning So take this heart, put yourself in it This surprise ending I'm depending on Could be the story of another us

during all these years, and despite trying his best not to, remus wished for the impossible, the ‘surprise ending’ of the problem resolving itself. and it happened... right? 

skipping the first lines of the second verse (that i already mentioned as they refer to desperation previous to sirius’ return) and here comes my absolute favourite part of the song :

An epilogue before we're done A sequel to what we've begun I'm hanging by a thread

for a minute there, they seem to get the happy epilogue. a short one, yes, but an epilogue nonetheless -- they’re together again, they’ve got harry back. but that’s not all of it. because if the (non-existant) optimist in me sees this ‘sequel’ as a continuation of the marauders’ early years (back when they were all happy and, well, not dead), the friendships they built and the joy they spread, my (deep-rooted) pessimism can only interpret it as an illustration of the fact that wolfstar were fucking doomed from the beginning. whether it was the first or hundredth chance they got, it still ends in the same way -- with hurt, with things untold and memories that won’t let themselves be forgotten, with a love so raw it can only bleed out.

And now before our hope is lost My heart is here at such a cost Tell me if you wanted it at all

finally, the last bridge sung by michael wraps it all up together. if last chance it is, they’ll suffer through it one last time together, each of them reminding the other of the people they’ve lost, the hurt they’ve endured and caused. the last two lines immediately bring to mind their role in both wars against voldy -- each time at the front row of the conflict. the first time they’d blindly followed the dangerous man that was dumbledore until they’d all lost something (whether it was their life or their sanity), teenagers at the front line of a war they’d become devoted to ; then turned into the ‘last resorts’ of a new army, attempting to protect another generation about to get slaughtered in a conflit thrice their size.

between the constant mention of doubt and wavering trust and the foolish dream of living a different ending, story of another us perfectly shows the cycle in which two people can get stuck. it doesn’t mean they didn’t have their happiness and their love, they did -- of course they fucking did. but i feel like the longing for something else, something new, along with the paradox of needing to forget the unforgettable can definitely be linked to our favourite depressive bookworm wolfboy, the one and only remus lupin <3

(now someone please make an edit with this song so i can die feeling miserable but it’s okay because it’s wolfstar)

(i hope all of this was somewhat understandable, i wrote it in one shot without thinking it through whatsoever)

“You stupid, mongrel, dog!” 

Scorpion withdrew his curved dagger from the man’s body only to stab him again, piercing through his abdomen into his second kidney. He raised his arm until the man was on his tiptoes to keep the knife from slicing up through his body. He couldn’t speak; blood from his severed tongue dribbled out of the corner of his mouth.

“If it wasn’t for your insufferable, gutter-filth greed-!” Scorpion’s voice cracked on the last word, breaking entirely after a seeming eternity of spitting venom at his incompetent former partner. He threw the man off his dagger and kicked him as he slumped to the ground.

Impotent rage cracked and screeched out of his throat. Lightning crackled in the distance just before thunder crashed around them. The storm’s rain was long gone, taken by the wind to the other lakes, but it had done its job. The fires set to hide Scorpion’s work had long been put out and it was all the dying man’s fault. 

With a vicious snap of his neck, Scorpion flung his wet hair over his shoulder. With his left hand, he held his throat, but touch alone did nothing for the shards of glass inside. He was enough of an apothecary to treat something as banal as a sore throat - and with his internal energy, it would heal overnight, but only once he’d drunk the tincture and slept. Until then, all he could manage was a growl.

He pressed his muddy boot onto the man’s chest, aggravating the ribs he’d broken earlier. He let the man’s gasps and whimpers mollify him somewhat.

At least until he heard the faint sound of footsteps on wet ground. He slid the dagger into an oiled cloth he kept secreted in the breast of his robes to keep the bloody blade from staining them. He backed down the alley and made a show of squeezing the water out of the length of his hair until he ‘saw’ the dying man and affected startlement. 

Just as the newcomer arrived.

It was Zhao Jing, the husband to the daughter of the Tai Hu sect leader, so new to the position that the pots used to serve the family tea hadn’t even fully cooled. Nevertheless, he dressed the part of the spoiled young master with colorful robes covered in fine, gilded embroidery.

Zhao Jing stepped up to the dying man and moved him with a heavy foot on his shoulder. He visibly scanned the man’s face and then down his body at the other injuries. Eventually, his eyes caught on the severed tongue, half-hidden in the mud. He clasped his hands together with a loud ‘thwop’ and turned his piercing stare on Scorpion.

“My, you did quite a professional job on this one,” Zhao Jing said with a voice twice as cultured as his bloodline.

Scorpion shook his head and twisted his eyes and mouth into a half-mournful, half-fearful expression. He clutched his left hand to his throat and left out a ragged croak to indicate that he couldn’t speak. His right hand was still bloody, not very bloody, but people in his line of work had to be careful with members of the martial world. He clasped the sleeve of his innermost robe and tried to wipe the evidence away. 

Zhao Jing laughed and stepped closer. He put a far too-familiar hand on Scorpion’s shoulder. He said, “Now, now, no need to be so modest. I’ve been aware of you for some time, Scorpion.”

Scorpion refused to let his body tense, but his nostrils flared with the sharp breath he took.

Zhao Jing chuckled. “Come now, you didn’t think you could act in the Tai Hu Sect’s territory completely unknown? Your associates were quite busy today, but…” He clicked his tongue several times in disappointment. “Sloppy work. And setting the fire just before the storm? Amature. I know you can do better than that. I’ve seen it.”

The last sentence was layered with praise, with thirst.

Tentatively, Scorpion let some of his true feelings show on his face. He waved his blood-stained right hand in a gesture for Zhao Jing to continue.

Zhao Jing lifted an elegant eyebrow. “Injured your throat?”

Scorpion held both hands palm up and shrugged while mouthing, “Regrettably.”

“Shame. Smoke is terribly rough on one’s voice. No matter, we’ll make time to speak properly soon.”

Scorpion lifted an eyebrow of his own.

“You’re an enterprising young man. I can help you make the most of your skill set.” Zhao Jing put his arm over Scorpion’s shoulders. “With me to guide you, there’s no need to limit yourself to the pitiful range you’ve worked in up to this point. Set your sights higher, my boy. If you don’t fail me, I won’t fail you.”
