JUGHEAD JONES.

           Uncomfortable was an understatement, painted nails tap idly on her forearm as brown eyes scour the room, she was so painfully out of her depth. She wanted to be there for Archie; to be the perfect supportive girlfriend, but she could feel the blind panic rise in her veins as the minutes ticked by. Archie was talking to the nurse across the room at the nurses station and Betty had disappeared with her mother somewhere, leave only she and Jughead sitting anxiously in the waiting room. The silence breaks finally between them as she turns to Jughead, “ if Mr Andrews doesn’t make it --- if god forbid the worst happens, Jug --- I have no idea what I’m suppose to do. He has to make it, he has to -- “

       A careful eye on Archie as she continues, he didn’t need to over hear Veronica’s concern, “ I think Archie’s holding back --- i think something else happened in pop’s -- maybe,  I don’t know.” maybe she was over thinking, over analysing.  “ -- do you think, do you think he could be holding something back? --” if anyone could tell it would be Jughead.

          you’re eight years old and your mother starts acting strange; she forgets things but you’re too young to notice much, it get’s worse until one day your father tells you she’s sick ( frontotemporal dementia  but you’re too young to know what that means darling) , and that all the medicine in all the world will never fix her. on the day you and your father bury her you’ve brave, because she told you to be brave, even when you’re scared, oh and sweetheart you’re scared ALL THE TIME.  

        you’re eleven years old now, and your father finds peace in the bottom of a bottle at nights when you go to sleep, you can here him cry and you wish you could take his pain away. he doesn’t really know what to do with this scrawny little hyperactive kid, he loves you, and you know that. but he needs to do better, so one day you come home from school and he tells you you’re moving, a FRESH START he calls it. 

        RIVERDALE is a nice town, but it isn’t BEACON HILLS and you miss your best friend so much, your anxious and nervous when you start your new school,no one wants to be the new kid.but one girl, this little blonde haired ball of sunshine comes bouncing up to you and introduces herself as Betty Cooper, you don’t know it yet, but she’s going to end up being one of your best friends. a few days later, your exploring your new town and you bump into a equally scrawny kid wearing a weird hat at the twilight drive-in movie theater with an even weirder name ( which later you find out isn’t his real name either && he is the only one who knows yours, to everyone else your STILES.) you both find a shared love in movies, and you’re so happy to have found someone who’s the quirky loner kid too, maybe this town isn’t going to be so bad after all...

      you’re sixteen now, you’re still the awkward scrawny kid who gets picked last at sports, and you’re just ass surprised as your team is when the coach picks you for first line in your sophomore year, things could be worse you have good friends, the bubbly blonde, and kid with the weird name are your best friends, and you dad doesn’t douse his feelings in whiskey anymore.  

         you still go back to beacon hills on the holidays, and you always joke now nothing ever happens in RIVERDALE only on the 4th July this year the unthinkable happened; JASON BLOSSOM son of one CLIFFORD BLOSSOM and PENELOPE BLOSSOM was murdered, and his body dumped in sweet water river.

         when all eyes turn on CHERYL BLOSSOM, the last person to see her brother alive you are the first to defend her, although you haven’t spoken a word to her since your freshman year ( ahh unrequited love! ) if only you could actually work up the nerve to TALK to her, maybe one day?...

A GOOD CLOSET CASE →

SETTING  → Sweetwater Lake, late evening || Minutes and hours after Kevin and Moose come upon Jason’s body. 

CHARACTERS:  → Kevin Keller with cameo by Moose Mason, mentions of The Kellers, Reggie Mantle, Betty Cooper, Cheryl Blossom, The Blossoms, etc. 

NOTES  → This is my take on Kevin’s reaction to the whole discovering Jason thing and I would be absolutely happy to expand on this in threads, etc.  But, I felt like this needed to be done because Kevin’s reaction is something pretty necessary. 

All of the words before it felt empty - Kevin tried to remember the details as the police officer kept asking him question upon question. “Why were you out here so late at night? You kids and your Sweetwater Lake..” the officer’s voice rang through Kevin’s mind as everything leading up to it played like a weird movie. 

It had just been some stupid hook up, that’s all it was meant to be and Kevin couldn’t turn down a classic closet case. Everything took such a drastic turn as Kevin tripped, and despite a quick recovery - it was anything but. “Oh my god, Jason..” Kevin’s voice filling his own ears as he let the events continue to play before him. Moose had been quick to start to panic, but did Moose trip over the dead body of someone? No, he hadn’t, but then again panic was a typical reaction from a closet case. 

“Go - go.. call the police..” Kevin found his voice and finally spoke, shivering slightly as suddenly the warm end of summer early autumn night chilled. Moose dashed off back to his car, Kevin stood there, his eyes glazed over as he pulled his shirt back on trying to warm himself up as if it was possible. In ear shot, Kevin could hear Moose on the phone with the police, but it was faint as Kevin’s eyes glanced down at Jason and he suddenly felt sick to his stomach. 

Sure, Jason Blossom was a jerk and sure he could have certainly used being taken down a peg or six, but no one deserved this.. not even Jason Blossom. Closing his eyes, Kevin turned away, running his hands over his face as he tried to keep himself together because surely Moose wasn’t going to be the levelheaded one in this situation. However, no matter how much Kevin tried, he couldn’t keep it together and his eyes began to fill with hot tears. “God, Jason..” Kevin muttered to himself as he could hear Moose’s footsteps drawing closer to him, barely hearing him as he mentioned that the police were on their way. 

There they stood, the only sound filling the night now was the lake as Kevin wiped his face and slowly looked up at Moose. “How are we going to explain this?” Moose asked as Kevin gave him a look, shaking his head and laughing bitterly to himself. “Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone what we were planning to do.” Kevin said watching the tension slip off Moose’s face, if only Kevin had been so lucky. The silence returned as Kevin wrapped his arms around himself, trying and failing to keep himself together as this just shook up his entire world. Sure, it was fun to talk about Jason’s disappearance and Cheryl, but now - being a part of the story wasn’t nearly as fun as talking about it. 

The sound of the police car whizzing into ear shot brought Kevin back from his thoughts again as he watched Moose go dashing off in that direction. From there, it felt like an episode of small town Law and Order, the police examining the area around Jason’s body and calling the coroner’s office to collect his body. News as it often does in a small town spread like wildfire and soon the entire town was there, and many people had questions for the boys who found Jason Blossom. 

“Care to answer my question, son?” the police officer asked as Kevin blinked, shaking his head slightly. “We went to the dance, came up here to star gaze - I’m an avid star gazer..” Kevin said making something up that was pretty plausible. The police officer nodded, jotting down a few notes in his little pad as Kevin could see all of his friends and people from school filling the area. Slowly, Kevin was cleared to go, finding his parents in the crowd of people and hugging them tightly. Because Jason Blossom was never going to get to do that again.

After a few minutes, Kevin assured his parents that he would be along soon, he had to go check on Betty first. Slowly, Kevin made his way over to the rest of them, standing near Moose and Reggie. Moose glanced over at Kevin, but kept his distance - yet another typical closet case move. Out of the corner of his eye, Kevin watched Cheryl and the Blossoms standing with the officers - Mrs. Blossom hysterical, clinging to her husband as Cheryl wept in pure shock. The finality of this all was hitting them as attention around Kevin began to shift, the whispers and glances falling on him as word was getting out that he had been the one to find Jason Blossom. 

Every journalist will tell you - never get involved with the story, but what happens when you become the story? Kevin slowly broke from the group, heading toward where he’d promised to meet his parents. Was he okay? No, how could he possibly be after such a thing? Things had become far too real for Kevin - far more real than anything on HBO could have prepared him for. The next day at school was sure to be swell, and to think - it all began with the love of a good closet case.

  Despite the fact that Casper had promised he wouldn’t haunt her place; he couldn’t keep away either. The cold weather had started to get nippy and the rush of the holidays could be felt even in a grim place like Riverdale. For a Spirit, the energy was uplifting. Even leaving a light blue glow to his edges as he hovered in a seated position in the girls living area.

              Her father’s unexpected early arrival left the raven haired girl with outrage and defiance burning in her veins. How dare her parents think they could control and manipulate her like they had; and her father’s arrival back in Riverdale on the very day that Fred Andrews was shot felt nothing at all coincidental. Hiram Lodge’s hands were already tained in this town. Perched on her end of the blondes bed she sighs loudly, eyes rolling as she begins to unravel before her best friend. “B, I can’t believe he’d here --- my father shows up on the very day Fred Andrews is shot, as if that doesn’t scream conspiracy. I wouldn’t be at all surprised is my mother was the one who paid that lowlife to shoot Mr Andrews --- please tell me something good, gossip, anything ---  speaking of good, did you and Jughead mhmm? “ a hint of something akin to a smirk curves of the raven girl’s face, as a manicured brow raises in anticipation of Betty’s answer. Veronica couldn’t help wonder if she and Archie were the only ones to indulge in each other.  “ come on -- don’t be shy, spare no details, okay spare some  i don’t need to know everything --”

Whisper to a Scream: An alternative “canon” verse where Billy somehow survived and comes looking for Sidney and Maureen sometime during Maureen’s childhood/teenage years.

Wait and Bleed: An AU verse in which Billy lived (but went to prison) and Debbie Loomis succeeded in not only killing Sid during the events of Scream 2, but pinning the whole thing on Mickey -- leaving her free to raise her granddaughter until her son was released from prison.
