Ok this has to be the last Verleth thing I draw for now, I have other things to work on, but seeing people say what I was thinking in the tags of my last drawings.. I just had to draw a quick and silly little comic :)))

The clear solution to Keyleth's ongoing immortality/love interests dying problem

Verin Thelyss already loves and admires the Ashari culture, is also basically immortal and will always return to Keyleth, AND is a genuine delight 😄

I really am not gonna get over Keyleth/Verin as a ship because like, they are WILDLY compelling for having come out of nowhere:

Verin will at the very least live another six hundred years, and is quite possibly functionally immortal via consecution.

They can commiserate about being thrust into the responsibility of commanding a force against extraplanar existential threats at a young age due to the (temporary) death of a parent in the role before them. This really does feel like a two nickels situation, if I'm being honest.

What are air magic and graviturgy if not different methods of achieving the same effect?

He's even a dramatic, long-haired goth with a complicated relationship with a fate deity and, if we're being honest, mommy AND daddy issues. Look at his Netherdeep art. Don't tell me Vax wouldn't approve.

I cannot bring myself to classify this as a crack ship because it is genuinely, bizarrely compelling in character.

Some verleth headcanons because this ship has a hook in me and I need more content:

Verin and Keyleth become penpals and he learns how to press flowers and flora properly so he can send her little things from Xhorhas he thinks she’d like with his letters

Keyleth keeps them all in a book because she finds it cute (he blushes when he finds out)

Verin tries desperately to keep a plant in his home alive so he can proudly show Keyleth if she comes to visit. He calls it his “Keyleth plant” and talks to this plant about her (like the himbo he is) and when Keyleth finds out she thinks its adorable

Keyleth lets out her rage in sparring matches with Verin and finds it very cathartic, he’s a good sparring opponent but she always wins

When talking about Vax everyone in VM is too close to it all and she feels very free talking about it with Verin, who understands grief and offers a different approach and perspective on it as a drow

Verin really admires Keyleth’s leadership and becomes a better commander in Bazzoxan because of it

One evening during one of his visits to Zephrah they’re lying on a hill looking at the stars and Verin is telling Keyleth Xhorhassian constellation stories and she’s so peaceful she falls asleep on his shoulder. He keeps watch and it’s the best night watch he’s ever had

CR Non-Endgame Ships Bracket Take 2

Hello my friends! Some of you may recall that just about 2 years ago now, I ran a series of polls for ships from Campaign 1, Campaign 2, and EXU Calamity that were not together at the end of their respective series. I excluded any Campaign 3 and modern era EXU ships, since at the time, those storylines were still open; Imodna weren't even together at that point. However, now that C3 has reached it's conclusion, I thought it was a good time to revisit the concept. I also didn't feature M/F pairings last time around and now is a good time to make that right too.

So! Let's get into the rules and paraments parameters:

The phrasing "non-endgame" was chosen as certain relationships present were together at some point in canon but are not longer (ex. Blumendrei) or there was an either mutual or one-sided attraction that did not result in a relationship (ex. Widojest). It doesn't feel right to me to simply call these ships "non-canon", though they are featured alongside plenty of purely fanon ships (ex. Verinwulf), so. Non-endgame. It's a little clunky, but it works.

I've reincorporated pairings from the first poll that lost in the very first round, potentially giving them an opportunity to shine further! Any ship from the first poll that made it further than that is not present this time around. These pairings are: Widofjord, Fjordwulf, Vaxmore, Fjolly, Jester x Reani, Polynein, Vexleth, Perc'ildan, Beaukeg, Vexahra, Beastrid, Beaureani, Polymachina, Beaujester, Lucigast, and Widomauk. Please do not ask me where they are.

Almost every ship will feature fanart of the characters in question, included of course with permission from the artist. Links to the original posts will be included and I highly encourage giving them some love if you vote! Any ship that doesn't have a piece of fanart has a little tableau designed in HeroForge by myself. Grogleth is the only exception, with a still from TLOVM.

This bracket is for fun. Ship hate will not be tolerated. You will be blocked if you act poorly in the tags.

I cannot believe that the Verin / Keyleth ship was what broke me free of my crippling case of writer's block. Enjoy the first excerpt here, and read here on AO3!

For what was probably the millionth time that week, Keyleth wished people would stop tiptoeing around her like she was the last fragile leaf on a snow-covered tree. They murmured condolences, then promptly avoided her like the plague as she sat on the bench staring at the Raven Tree of the Ashari.

It was the anniversary of the Whispered One’s defeat.

Which meant it was also the anniversary of Vax’s life getting stolen away by the Matron.

Even though forty years had now passed by since that day, the wound felt too fresh for her liking. Not that it was entirely her fault. Some of it was, of course, she wasn’t blind to her own damage. But people continued to poke and prod at her tender, healing heart until it broke and bled. The ravens kept on circling overhead like the scavengers they were. Keyleth would make real, honest progress, only to have someone or something throw painful reminders back at her like Grog used to throw Keyteor.

And so, Keyleth sat. She tried to push down the feelings of unrelenting bitterness as she made eye contact with the single corvid perched in the Raven Tree before casting her gaze over the rest of Zephrah.

Things were good. Peaceful. It’d been a long while since the last crisis, and she could appreciate that her duties had eased off into cordial diplomatic meetings and occasional trips to visit friends across Exandria. Keyleth was supposed to be heading to one of them in a few hours; a memorial service in Vasselheim with the remaining members of Vox Machina and their families.

As usual, Keyleth would be going alone, if you didn’t count the raven she was currently staring at.

She would have asked Korrin and Vilya to join her, but as Air Ashari Elders, they were required to stay and watch over Zephrah in Keyleth’s absence. And bringing any of her guards just felt…wrong. Keyleth’s unique contributions to Exandrian history caused the new generation of Tempest Blades to revere her as a symbol of their culture. Of those serving her in the present day, Orym would unquestioningly be the least likely to engage in such hero worship (even then, he still had moments of idolisation), but he was visiting the Silken Squall with Dorian. And who was Keyleth to deny the man some well-deserved time with his in-laws?

Besides, it was not like Keyleth needed her Blades. She was capable of protecting herself and would be surrounded by other influential figureheads, all with guards of their own. She only wanted company.

“Company that doesn’t have a beak and feathers,” she said aloud to the raven still watching her, expression caught halfway between anger and disappointment.

“Do you want me to shoo her away?” asked a voice over her shoulder.

Keyleth spun in surprise. Who’d have the stones to sneak up on one of the most powerful druids in existence? She could have blasted them with a lightning bolt in a half-second!

Dressed in a simple, dark outfit rather than his regular armour, Verin Thelyss stood behind her. His white hair was tied up in a casual ponytail, although a few strands had fallen loose and hung to frame his sharp blue eyes and soft smile. He looked far too charming despite the irritation Keyleth could only imagine the oppressive sunlight was causing him.

i have been itching about verin and keyleth and i cant explain WHY. this is the first time i've ever had a CR crack ship/rarepair in my mind for more than a minute. someone save me.

Also while the ending with Vax and Keyleth was so sweet and beautiful with them trying to start over and fall in love again and that was wonderful…if you think I’m giving up on the crack-ship of technically-immortal Verin Thelyss courting technically-immortal Keyleth because of a silly thing called canon, you must be new here

Nonwal I have to say you make the most compelling reasons for this ship. I add to this with the base carnal reason that they would always be the hottest mfs in the vicinity

I’m not currently keeping up with C3, I am with the plot I’m just not watching, and with the birth of Verleth I have to share something—

Years ago, An old online friend I no longer talk to and I wrote PAGES of Verin/Vax rp for a few years. So I have this image

Of art I made of them Just on my phone. (Ignore the bad art quality I was just leaving high school) I can’t explain why we had started writing them together, I think I just wanted to write vax and she just wanted to write Verin so we made it happen?

Now I haven’t thought about this in a few years and I’m only tangentially tuned into CR (I’m really just there for the sweet sweet Dorym clips)

So IMAGINE my surprise when the Keyleth and Verin art starts hitting my dashboard.

Truly such a trip. It took a while for me to remember why that felt so weird and also familiar? And this is why. So thought I’d share
