#venom is a new Big Fucking Fave basically

The quote retweets you'd see on like, every new Bridget figure announcement were always so fucking weird, a bunch of people pretending to care about how "ohh my FAVES like Faust and Bedman will NEVER get figures" or "they'll NEVER make a figure for Nagoriyuki or Venom just this white girl," and it's like, for one, notice how it's only male characters mentioned, and two, they'd like, always follow up about how this is the fault of ArcSys pandering to Big White Transfem when, in reality, these figure companies approach ArcSys and not the other way around, which is a big reason why Guilty Gear PLUSHES don't have this "problem" of Bridget bias.
And with Elphelt it's basically the same thing just usually without the transphobia... unless it's directed at her fans, then suddenly the panic about how Big White Transfem is responsible for Guilty Gear Strive apparently having an "annoying" fanbase returns, followed by shitty jokes about how all GGST fans should be "killed" over this.
And like, on that note, don't you think it's like, weird, how for all the handwringing about white (trans) women specifically, isn't it a bit odd these people just never bring up Ramlethal? Or Giovanna?
And don't get me wrong I think there's a conversation to be had about Guilty Gear and racism, especially antiblack racism, between both the fanbase and the series itself, hell even as far as Elphelt in particular goes I think it's really gross how commonly people call her a "snow bunny" over her being attracted to Nagoriyuki, and as far as FIGURES go I think it sucks one of Ramlethal's official figures is one of her whitewashed alt palettes (something that's been an issue with GG alt palettes for a while).
Buuuut it also feels like people are just putting "white" in front of blatantly (trans)misogynistic remarks in order to "soften the blow," so to speak.
Gotta say it's really refreshing to be on here instead of Twitter as a fan of Guilty Gear, because it was starting to get really fucking obnoxious seeing everything relating to Bridget and/or Elphelt having a bunch of people make weird borderline (trans)misogynistic remarks about those characters and their fanbases but, oh, don't worry! It's okay because they put "white" in front of said weird remarks.

i don’t normally make posts like this, but for the sake of my fellow monster-lovers, i feel it’s my civic duty:
Venom was a fantastic movie, holy hell, go see it & don’t believe the bad critic reviews.
long story short & no spoilers, but this absolutely turned out to be one of those cases where the bad reviews are largely coming from the point of fanboys being mad that the interpretation wasn’t a gritty grim dark bloody angst fest (which, one, the movie’s PG-13 so no duh it wasn’t going to be extremely gorey, and two, if you watch the trailers it really gives you the vibe of the movie very accurately).
seriously, if you like monsters, if you like shenanigans where monsters and humans figure out how to.... operate together, if you like hilarious amounts of sass and excellent comedic timing from Tom Freaking Hardy, then go see this movie.
#nightpix general#venom is a great movie and you can't change my mind#it isn't meant to be a narrative masterpiece i mean cmon the point in this one is Eddie (Tom Hardy) and Venom being THEM#seriously i went for tom hardy and venom and the relationship thereof and BOI HOWDY IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT#seriously it's not meant to be a masterpiece plot or anything either but it also wasn't boring at all?? i read some of the#negative crits after getting out of the midnight release and was /baffled/ because it was like they didn't even watch the same damn movie#bit of a shape of water scenario too - where a lot of the movie critics were like 'whaaaat why'd she wanna fuck the fish'#LEMME FUCK THE FISH#basically#venom is a new Big Fucking Fave basically#definitely gonna get this on dvd#monster fuckers unite dammit#slash monster lovers#just.... if you like monsters/aliens period XD#also tom hardy did a stellar job so no surprise there#nice laying of groundwork too considering its one a lot of people don't go into knowing the origin etc of

Vaespar Lore Dump
@gay-werewolves inspired me, I'm going to do a lore dump about my special boi(/gurl), my fave OC and secondary sona, Vaespar. (READ BELOW)
The setting I invented that Vaespar is from is a fantasy setting that is both post-apocalyptic and post-human;
in the near future, a goddess of a forgotten religion, The Midnight Lady, reawakens. She sees the state of the world, which has become even more fucked by cryptocurrency among other things, and is fucking pissed.
She promptly reintroduces magic to the world at an explosive rate, mutating all life on earth (except dogs, cats, and corvids, whom she favors) into strange new forms via a magical blight known as the Raven Plauge, and causing the collapse of civilization.
(This also wakes up the other gods in the Midnight Lady's pantheon, who advise her that there were probably better ways but are too late to actually stop or undo her actions. They're important later.)
Most humans end up mutating into funky fantasy races, but the worst of the worst get reduced into some kind of shadow sludge. From this sludge the demons were born.
Demons in this setting are basically like the Venom symbiote. They're ineffectual small shadow blobs on their own, but they bond with other beings and give them enhanced magical power in exchange for sustenance. Now, most demons don't require much in the way of sustenance (though what that is tbd) and aren't particularly harmful, but a rarer, more powerful, and more malignant strain exists, known as archdemons.
Archdemons are much more powerful than normal demons and use their hosts to devour the bodies and souls of others, turning into darkness to engulf and digest them. And one of them manages to find the last human.
Now exactly how one human survived has been lost to time to the point not even the gods know, but this human was once a great hero before being tempted into bonding with an archdemon. And it turns out an archdemon with a human host is EXTREMELY powerful.
Eventually over time the archdemon and human basically merge into one being. And that being... Is Vaespar.
He's a cruel, prideful, sorcerous evil overlord type who has ruined countless lives and devoured countless people. He's immortal and nigh unkillable at this point, so many have attempted to seal him away, but he always breaks free eventually.
His magical powers are incredibly strong, and include some degree of shapechanging ability. However, he can only perfectly *mimic* another being if it's one he's eaten.
He CAN turn into a floating face, or a snake man, or, most importantly, trans his gender. (He's genderfluid babyeeeeee! he/him or she/her pronouns, though leans former, as I've been using)
And when he absorbs enough magical power at once he transforms into his monstrous Ascending Form, which is powerful enough to devour and kill the local gods.
And he did in fact do that once!
See, Vaespar's goal in life is to transform into an eldritch god dragon and rule the world, and he attempted to devour a god (exact identity of said god pending) in order to attain that. But he just kind of... Hemorrhages all the power. And also in this setting killing a god has DRASTIC CONSEQUENCES based around whatever the god was a god of, so it fucks things up big time. HOW is again undecided but.
Vaespar eventually learns in order to get the results he wants and have them stick he needs to devour one particular god specifically: Gliar, the god of light, who's sort of a nega-him. This is around when he gets his signature outfit - it matches Gliar's and is Vaespar's most petty way of messing with him.
He does try to get to Gliar in more significant ways, however.
See, there's this forest spirit goddess lady (name TBD) who is good friends with Gliar. She also has a girlfriend who's a flower goddess named Iuzurva. Vaespar ends up seducing and magically corrupting her to give himself more advantage against the gods and have someone to try and get him to Gliar.
Gliar is despondent and terrified and goes into hiding. Iuzurva is even MORE despondent and falls into a despair that makes her more malevolent and eldritch.
(Also said goddess being corrupted does a fucky to the world's forests, making them even more dangerous places. Not as bad as if Vaespar has killed/eaten her but. She has remained an ally of Vaespar ever since)
There is one person who got oh so close to defeating Vaespar. And that was Evithyan Zerdali.
She was a powerful mage (of one of the more humanlike post-human species) and also a good friend of Gliar, who tried to figure out the secret to killing Vaespar. She was very close to uncovering the secret to killing Vaespar before he ultimately devoured her during a major confrontation, but she got him sealed away again in the process. After her death Gliar became even more reclusive and even started spreading rumors he was a false god.
It is said something of Evithyan still lingers, however...
Vaespar is assisted in his endeavors by various minions and henchmen, and in the "present day" of the story is most closely aided by Loveland, a member of a race of frog people, who resembles a firebelly toad (and thus is Vaespar's literal toady). While not particularly malevolent in and of himself, he is fiercely loyal to Vaespar and the two work closely together.
Vaespar also has the power to access other universes, though he hasn't bothered conquering any... Yet. (This is how I explain interactions with characters and species that wouldn't exist in his home universe.) Some notable jaunts:
-Vaespar once visited a CERTAIN Pokemon universe briefly, and even had a child named Seigbert there. However he has yet to engage in Trainer shenanigans in any other Pokemon universes. Yet...
-He has also become a Summoner in the world of Fire Emblem Heroes, and commands a cabal of fucked up and evil heroes, and had a child with one of them too, Arvis. Their daughter is named Igol.
-He has also ventured into the world of Final Fantasy XIV, having transformed into a Viera, and is doing Typical WOL Shenanigans there
Other Vaespar Facts:
-He has ink blot like markings on his body that reflect his nature as a human/demon fusion, though the exact pattern changes often.
-His height depends on his current form but defaults to 7'6
-In addition to being genderfluid he's pansexual and autistic
-He does still consume normal food and drink, but the urge to consume those is different from his urge to consume other beings (though can overlap if he transforms someone into food)
-His hood has a long "tail" to it, very important
-Those things on his robe are tassels, not cravats, including the one on his neck
-Here's a chart of how his major forms all link to each other
-And a slightly outdated size chart of them next to my other sonas
And finally, because people asked: Even though he's partially a sona I don't mind if people say he's hot. I'm FLATTERED, he's meant to be. (This goes for my other sonas too.)
I tried to keep the images in this thread limited to my own art, but plenty of other people have drawn Vaespar, either because I paid them to or of their own volition. You can see them here! (remove spaces): https :// toyhou.se/ 5157929 .vaespar
This was really fun to write up and do! Feel free to ask any questions. Maybe I'll do my main sona Umbra next.

As requested, books / series I read in 2020 in the order I read them, with a few brief thoughts. (This took me a hot second because there are a few and also I moved cities) Should I keep a consistent goodreads? Yes I should but I didn’t think of that at the time, so bone apple teeth & sorry if I offend you abt your faves x
P.S. I can’t figure out how to do a read more on mobile so long post ahead!
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas - This is one of the most vivid published fantasy books I have ever read... I read it twice in rapid succession. The fandom POPS off. I must say I have issues with certain aspects e.g. fae lore completely ignored à la Twilight, all love interests 500+ years old and technically a different species, etc (I’m not going to deconstruct the entire series here but just know that I could... Nesta deserves better)
Cruel Prince by Holly Black - This fucking slaps, HB clearly has done her research, the lore is near immaculate, and it explores the Fae in such a unique way, tying it to the modern world subtly and seamlessly. My only qualm was that the books felt quite short; truly wish there had been more content.
Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas (6/7) - So basically I read this in one single, hyperfixated fit which meant I literally locked myself in my room for three days straight and read all six books back to back in a row from morning to the wee hours. Which is not to say it was spectacular; although it was a VERY rich world, sometimes it was too much... this felt like 6 stories in one. Ik she was young when she wrote this but it is my humble opinion that SJM needs a better editor & I personally think Rowan is a grade A asshole / straight up abusive (& personally think the ACOTAR Tamlin plot was born from that?). It’s good but not as good as ACOTAR. Skip-read the last book.
Grishaverse (Shadow and Bone) by Leigh Bardugo (3) - This is essential to read before SOC but was very much simply a YA fantasy book, although the world was cool and the way the love plot played out was, imo, a subtle middle finger to the fantasy trope. Felt very much aimed at younger readers though? Really liked the sandwhich structure of the Proluge and Epilogue, especially in #2
Six of Crows series by Leigh Bardugo (2) - INCREDIBLE continuation of Grishaverse, better than the original series by a mile. It has the range, the diversity, the representation (the male lead is a disabled asexual and still the most cunning of the entire cast of characters), the plot is phenomenal, and it manages such a well rounded plot in only two books which means nothing is stretched out or squeezed in more than need be. Deserves all the praise it gets.
King of Scars series by Leigh Bardugo (0.5/1) - Personally I don’t consider this book canon, and while it’s nice to see the rest of Nina’s journey & the world again & everyone else, I don't like it. I will, however, be reading book 2 when it comes out, so shame on me, I suppose.
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo (1/1) - this was incredibly cool although it went off in a completely different direction than I thought it would based off the first few chapters? One of my favourite YA-author-debuts-New-Adult novels in 2020 though!
Crescent City by Sarah J Maas (1/1) - This was supposed to be SJM/s New Adult debut, although personally I would put her other series in New Adult, and I can’t say a remarkable amount was different with this except they said “fuck” and “ass” a lot. WHY is the romantic interest 500 years old AGAIN. I just... don’t... I just don’t think it was necessary... the world was cool though, and the last half of the book was riveting, but the beginning was quite slow and I thought the sword thing was predictable. I am interested to see where this goes though.
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab (3) - This world is so fucking cool... four Londons aka parallel universes & the one in ‘our’ world is set in industrial era London. Magic, girls dressing up as boys, thieves, pirates, royalty... it all just slaps. Schwab is an incredible writer & I was completely immersed.
Midnight Sun by SMeyer - I didn’t think anything could possibly detract even further from the Twilight story but I was sorely mistaken... seeing the stalking from Edward’s POV - and it was worse than depicted in Twilight, for the record - completely obliterated any sort of romance the first half of the original book may have portrayed. I still hold the opinion that the entire series would have been better if some kind of vampire lore had been abided by, if only to see all of the villains thwarted by someone dropping a bag of rice on the ground, forcing them to have to count them all.
An ember in the Ash by Sabaa Tahir (3/4) - This was just a very stereotypical ya fantasy series, emphasis on the YOUNG... it wasn’t anything to write home about but I remember quite enjoying it at the time.
The Power by Naomi Alderman - This book is FUCKING incredible and EXCEPTIONALLY thought provoking... essentially women alone develop a power of electric shock etc. and then take over the world from men, and it explores feminism and the balance between equality & tipping the scales in the other direction. Written by a friend of M.Atwood in a similar tone to handmaids tale, I would say? Content warning; there are some exceptionally graphic scenes in the latter half of the novel.
Hamlet by Wllm Shksp - I can’t believe it took me this long to finally read it but Ophelia is my favourite name in the entire world & we love to see a woman go batshit (although she didn’t deserve that).
Catherine House by Elisabeth Thomas - this was unsettling in the best sense of the word... it was a little slow & honestly more of a concept than a big reveal, but I couldn’t stop thinking about it after I finished it? A Secret History vibes but make it blurry like the memory of all those dystopian novels you read when you were young?
The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue by V.E. Schwab - This is without a doubt my book of the year, and probably the best book I read in 2020? I stayed up all night on a friend’s couch reading it, got a book hangover and reread the ending, and then thrust it upon my mother who doesn’t usually read but read this, and loved it just as much. HIGHLY recommend and you HAVE to read it, it’s beautiful and endearing and just plain wonderful.
Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat (3/3) - I went into this knowing it was going to be terrible, because I had received a blow by blow telling me as much; although I must say that it did learn a remarkable amount of new words, the books did get better as the series went on, and it did have a rather charming ending? BIG content warning for almost everything.
Sapiens by Yuval Harari - mind-expanding & must recommend for everyone, there is everything in this and I daresay everyone should posses this kind of knowledge? I listened to it as an audiobook (which I recommend because it’s rather hearty) but will be buying this in hardcopy & rereading it with annotations.
Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller - Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful novels I have ever read, and certainly the most beautiful portrayal of the story of Achilles and the battle of Troy I have ever seen. Patroclus deserved the justice that was given to him in this book; indeed, all of the characters were written with justice and grace. Highly recommend.
Trials of Apollo by Rick Riordan (3/5) - Apollo is my favourite Greek God, and the sexiest greek god, and Rick Riordan’s writing slaps, as always. It did pain me to see Apollo, the sexy immortal, have to be forced back into a 16 year old’s body but everything else? Whimsical & wonderful, as expected.
These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong - a retelling of Romeo and Juliette, except it’s set in Shanghai in the 1920′s, and the protagonists already have a history. Very well done, characters are incredibly diverse in race, sexual orientation, gender, and ability / disability (and honestly, representation has never appeared so effortless and elegant). Also it includes a monster and possible magic. Incredibly underrated and highly recommend.
The Once and Future Witches by Alix. E Harrow - this was such a unique concept, and truly captivating, the story was charming, and felt like the kind of beautiful fairytale you would read as children but with more grit? ABSOLUTELY recommend this one
The Pisces by Melissa Broder - I hated this so much, not my vibe at all. Mermaid smut x therapy but make it cynical and judgemental (I know there was a moral in there but that’s not my point) also the dog dies.
Library of the Unwritten by A.J. Hackwith (1/2) - really interesting & unique concept (all unwritten novels / ideas reside in a special library that is part of Hell and then sometimes the books can come to life) however, my first thought upon reading this was “this reads as if it’s stemmed from one of those writing prompt tumblr posts” bc of the tone and whatever and as it turns out I was somewhat correct, it did stem from a short story (not bad just obvious). It did kind of settle down as it went on but I found reading it kind of a drag, and I don’t think I will read the second one.
Abandon by Meg Cabot - 1. Meg Cabot’s writing always fucking slaps 2. Hades and Persephone but make it modern & very 2000′s & somehow kind of unique 3. I literally loved this, sue me
Medusa Girls (Sweet Venom) by Tera Childs - Like Percy Jackson except they are descendants of Medusa so they are Gorgons and have fangs & venom (hence the title). Gave me very 2000′s vibes? Quite cool but tbh I found the books quite short (like two hours each, if that)? Do NOT read the GoodReads description of the book before you read it, you will spoil it for yourself.
Bring me their Hearts by Sara Wolf - In my opinion, this is one of the most underrated YA series I read in 2020. The heroine is endearing, self aware, witty, and loves to look pretty even while kicking ass which in my opinion is an incredibly underrated trait. Also, immortality without being hundreds of years old? VERY sexy. HIGHLY recommend.
A Deal with the Elf King by Elise Kova - High commendation to be given for the fact that it is a standalone and yet manages to fit in the plot of what would usually be a full fantasy trilogy without cutting corners or being a million miles long? Also sweet storyline & beautiful ending? If you liked ACOTAR you should read this as a “what would have / could have been had SJM had a different editor” (No shade I promise).
The Iron Fae by Julie Kagawa (4/4 + novellas) - Incredibly detailed faerie set around the modern world & our current use of technology & iron in it. Very neat adventure-style series, by the time I read the last novella I was well and truly done with the world (aka provided enough content to be fulfilling). Was definitely aimed at a younger audience though, NO smut / smut was brushed over.
The Modern Faerie Tales by Holly Black (3/3 SS) - This is technically the prequel to Cruel prince, set in the modern world, but with the fae world inside it as it traditional? All I have to say is that it is excellent & I highly recommend it.
Bridgerton series (The Duke and I) by Julia Quinn (9/9) - I read this after watching the Netflix show twice through and I am obsessed, although the books were not quite as elegant as the show, and some parts that made me cringe either by their portrayal (it is very firmly set in the 19th century and thus some things are not handled with tact or grace), the characters were exceptionally loveable and I am so excited to see where the show takes them! Lovely language & an abundance of words I had never seen before (always a plus).
#the number of these which I hate with a passion now#fuck my life#HATE SJM#MAD about grishaverse#ASHAMED of bridgerton and the feminism leeched from my soul after reading this

For the ask! How about 7, 8, and then one that you want to do off the list :D
Hooo boy you sure know how to ask the hard ones don't ya?
Also these are gonna reference the newly re named Savages (formerly die Uhr dort droben) a fic which is basically my OC and Samael hating on and relating to each other Hannibal - esque style with Rin as an unfortunate collateral and try-to-be savior. (Or, Samael needed a good foil so I used what I had to make one)
WARNING: This gets dark pretty fast.
7. Favorite description in your WIP?
Is waaaaay too long to post here, but I really am proud of my description of some of Kage's body language. She communicates primarily through that, so I needed to get god level good at writing descriptive text and sometimes I actually feel like I made it. The entire camping/initial mission scene is really one of my faves, and one of the the dialogue below is taken from that scene.
8. Favourite dialogue in your WIP?
This is where it gets dark:
I couldn't choose between the camp scene and another, later scene so I will post both, sans the major spoiler parts:
Yukio scoffed, growing sense of irritation further confusing the teen. Rin was right. What was it about this...this animal, that aggravated him so much?
"You don't even say at our place, you always go back and forth to Mephisto's house. So why don't you just stay there? Or better still - why go back there at all?" Yukio leered with a wry, bitter smirk. He managed to catch himself from yelling at her, but only just.
...Kage stood still for a while, breathing unsettlingly steady. Yukio knew he'd struck something, but he hadn't quite decided if it was gold or pig iron. He braced himself for the latter when she turned her head slightly to make herself more easily understood.
"I am merely a stray dog that has found a new home. One which, coincidentally, has a much more benevolent master."
"Benevolent?" Yukio scoffed incredulously. A bud of confusion bloomed into a stark flower of regret as her body tensed almost imperceptibly. Her body turned toward him just enough for her to engage him with one hardened eye, its depths distressingly hollow but no less harsh when her reply came in softened tones, which had seemingly soaked up as much venom as she could muster without outright betraying that fact to the uninitiated.
"One should assume that would answer most of your questions about what sort of life I've led up to now." Kage paused, her monocular gaze trading some of it's hard, heavy edges for lighter ones, the hollowness filling up with a sad and resigned look that Yukio didn't know how to place.
"As well as why I can't afford to trust you."
And then there's this monster of a scene (oh god the angst. For some context, this is a scene that involves torture of the psychological kind. You've been warned.)
Shima felt a sick feeling settling into his gut, almost like going into shock. And he was shocked. What the hell? Shima felt his body beginning to tremble involuntarily as he resisted the sharp urge to choke on his tongue. What the hell?!
"It wasn't as if I had a choice." Kage explained, her voice entirely too calm, as it had been the entire time she stood over the demonness writhing silently beneath her. "If I hadn't complied, I'd of been killed." She shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly, seeming to think for a moment how best to respond. " I merely had to discover my sense for humanity, that's all. I discovered the human parts of myself for the first time, was made to really reconcile with them for the first time. It was either figure out how to be human, or die." She breathed a sigh, expression becoming owlishly keen as she tapped the side of the demons face with her sword, head cocking to the side in a way that made Shima's stomach churn.
"I simply started with the bad side of them. That's all." She paused, turning to look at Shima, a hot and hollow soul taking the place of where her eyes were supposed to be. A soul that didn't feel real. A soul that didn't belong to her. Not her, not Kage - no way. No fucking way. Not like this. Not like this.
"Not like I started out with the best examples of them, anyway."
And I choose 16 for Kage since this is about her anyway
16. a. What motives do you give your OC? What drives them?
Kage is motivated primarily by her own personal values. She values fairness and honesty above almost anything else, as indicated by her lack of ability to lie and insistence on reciprocity. She is also highly motivated by access to resources and ability to maintain social order. Be it hers or someone else's.
b. How much tragedy did you subject them to?
Ha. Ha ha. Ha. It was much worse when me and my concept of Kage were younger, but Kage is the ultimate survivor, let's put it that way. You don't live for nearly 300 years and not see some shit. Especially if you're a half breed.
And just for fun I'll do 27 too.
27. Do you have playlists for your WIP? What are some songs on it?
I do have a playlist for Savages but I don't want to give away more than I already have, so I'll list some character songs that suit her and her relationship with Samael
1. Unsurprisingly, Become the Beast by Karlienne was a big inspiration (as was the show Hannibal upon which it is based)
2. Liz Robinette's version of Unravel (Tokyo Ghoul OST)
3. The Wild One by Shawn James and the Shapeshifters
4. You Are The Moon by The Hush Sound
5. Fernes Uhrenticken by Clockwork-p on YouTube (from which the original title was taken) (I strongly recommend turning down the speed to .75 if you don't speak really good German)
6. Shrike by Hozier
7. Bad Apple (Liz Robinette's version) from Tohou
8. Burn the Witch by Shawn James
9. It's a Dangerous Game from the play Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
10. And Don't Save Me by Noctura ( which describes her relationship with her father, but oh well)
Hope you enjoyed!

.: Day 1 - F/O February :.
Reverse Self-Ship: You are your F/O’s F/O!!
I’m from a video game series akin to an odd mix of Watch_Dogs and Grand Theft Auto. Things can get a little pervy, hijacking cars is involved, stealth and adventure abound...but so is a bunch of ridiculous, silly things, like a petting minigame that triggers randomly when interacting with my cat.
There’s a single-player mode focused on my background and meeting up with past friends or exes...and is story-based, allowing you to attack and kill them, befriend them again... All sorts of stuff.
Also, the option to adopt more cats and become a crazy cat lady...in spirit.
Shit, romance people if you want! Live life!
Marcus got Wrench (Reggie) the game as a birthday gift. It was mostly a joke, because Reg REALLY thought he wouldn’t like it....and what else do best friends do but give their bffs prank gifts?
Still, Marcus bought it for him new... So Reg boots it up and gives it a chance, anyways.
......holy shit, he actually likes this WAY more than he first thought he would.
First of all, he HATES animals; every one he’s ever met seems to hate him and hurt him, so he’s turned his back on animalkind. However, throughout the game, I’m NOTHING but kind to every animal and suspicious of every person I meet.... Some of which he understands completely. There are some ASSHOLES in this game!!
Also, the way I croon to my cat and get into baby talk... It’s so damn cute to him. Really makes him feel some kinda way, which he flushes over. (Haha, wow that’s embarrassing.)
The point is, he ends up hating animals a little less and starts loving cats a LOT more.
Actually had to put down the controller and walk away from the game when doing a dancing minigame. He could barely focus on the button commands with how cute I was being while doing the dances.
Proceeds to look up people who 100% the dances just so he can save them to his phone. Watch them whenever he wants.
Later deletes them, 100%s them on his own, and THEN saves them onto his phone. Is a lot more happy with them, cause they’re HIS gameplay videos and not someone else’s.
LOVES messing around with outfits. Someone on the staff was either a big fan of cats or just...made that my most out-there personality trait (second only to the games and show in my world that are obviously knock-offs of real-world games), but he’s not complaining. Running around in cat ears and a cat tail? So damn cute.
His personal favorites are the masks I have combined with the matching jackets; it makes me feel more relatable to him...but he’s a greedy man and always eventually takes them off so he can look at my face.
Has SO MANY PICTURES on Facebook of him playing this damn game. Marcus kinda thought he was pranking at first, but now the whole squad knows Reg is a bit of an addict.
They got him the other games on Christmas and he cried. Everyone was....kinda in awe.
Josh got him a t-shirt with my character on it that reads “Bee Paw-sitive~!” on it. He wears it a LOT.
He definitely started up a collection that rivaled....basically no one else in the fandom.
HATES seeing the fandom pairings. And since you can romance anyone due to my sexuality canonly being Panromantic...it’s frustrating.
(Well, he’s Bi, so some of the people he wouldn’t mind sharing with, yeah....but he’s specifically venomous over the people he’s SURE are my friends only. Or are/were super toxic to me in my past. So, so bitter that anyone likes those ships, but holds his tongue only bc he got a figurine of me doing some cutesy pose next to his monitor. It helps him keep his head.)
Literally has a savings account reserved for merchandise. If it exists, he wants to buy it. If it doesn’t, but someone’s commissions are open? He’s gonna buy it.
Has bought art, jumped on art-trades/requests to get MORE art of us together. Has two plushies of me, as well as a body pillow. Continues to seek more things.
Is honestly upset that my size is medium (and so he can’t wear my canonly fitted clothes), BUT that doesn’t stop him from owning a single shirt in my size AND getting items that mimic my wardrobe.
He likes to imagine we can match together....or I can wear HIS version of my fave shirts when mine are dirty~!
Is still debating getting a kitten. Until that day, cat plushes are among the only other plushes he has (aside from mine).
Weird as he felt about it, he later admitted to his friends that he....kinda felt romantically towards me? And was thinking about just being fictoromantic...
Josh was the first one to see no problem with it and fast. People can be hard to work with, so... You do you. (Reg then felt bad about bullying him so much....oop.)
Horatio was also quickly on board. “Hey man, they make you happy. If it helps, it helps.”
Marcus....was a little more confused, but got in the spirit of it, regardless. “man, if I knew you would’ve actually liked it, I woulda got it for you a lot sooner!! Have fun, man.”
Sitara doesn’t quite get it, but.... It sure explains why Reg kept pestering her to tag “Purrfect Anarchy” in certain places and commissioning her for stylized art of him with them.
T-Bone....kinda harasses him about it, but the group stands by Reg. Josh is pretty upset about it, though.
He also follows every piece of news and publicly shares it, after admitting to being ficto. LOTS more pictures like, “Cutie’s got good taste.” [selfie with him sticking out his tongue and wearing one of the replica shirts] “Dinner date with bae!” [screenshot of me looking at the screen of his laptop, dinner and candlelight between us]
Everyone rolled with it more and more over time, so now it’s entirely not uncommon for them to bribe Reg to do things by dragging me into it...
Sitara: Hey, you leaving? Wrench: ...yeah, why? Sitara: Can you get me a coffee while you’re out? Wrench: Wh-? Why should I get you-? Sitara: I bet Rachel would like you doing something like that, y’know. Wrench: .....That’s cruel. You’re cruel. Sitara: I know~! You know how I like it, thank you, and Rachel loves you. Wrench: [sputters audibly and shuffles out the door, muttering to himself, embarrassed]
They don’t do a LOT of crimes anymore, but... Definitely still fuck shit up w/ cops. Reg daydreams a shitton about a masked romance and the anarchy we could commit together... After all, I helped him be braver. So he could help me, too, and then..... So much glorious chaos. Maybe makeouts in his car...
Was literally the type to not give a SHIT about marriage or kids, but now nonstop thinks about our lives together. Anarchy and domestic lifestyle shit can coexist, right? We can be married, have our cute lil’ two story (three, if you count the attic AND a basement), and some kids.....and also go create anarchy and throw bricks at cop cars and cause so much damn trouble..... Right?
He’ll even get a CAT for our home. It’ll be our first kid and not only will he be SO COOL, but they’ll name her (yes, a girl) Princess Leia and I’ll probably cry in happiness!!
Reg is DETERMINED to be the best husband/boyfriend ever. Doesn’t matter which, cause whatever speed I’d like to go at? Hell yeah, he’s down for it. Just as long as he can still hold my hand and gush over how cute I am and-
Has gushed about me and my series before and WILL do so again, prompted or not.
Actually participated in the fandom a little. Mostly does reblogs and such, but has written a few stories (self-inserts are the majority), done some not too shabby art, and prides himself on being the BIGGEST fan of the series with all the merch he has AND commissions bought.
Made a select few friends who also are fans, but... Is constantly anxious about his self-shipping. Either that they might eventually think he’s weird, send more anon hate (he’s gotten some in the past for “being a creep”), or- worst yet- also self-ship with me and he’s still dealing with that idea.
Until then, he’s got a wedding ring he bought cheap at the jewelry section of some store, so.... Coping skills, babey.
#FOFebruary#FOFebruary2020#Aki speaks#otp; purrfect anarchy#self ship#self ship community#oH LOOK I'M DOING THINGS ALL OF A SUDDEN.....#O D D#anyways have this thank u

kay i read the horny venom comic and it wasn’t like amazing but it was alright! i mostly enjoyed it for what it was, which, when it comes to venom comics is like, high praise lmfao
the main thing that seemed to stick out to me was the dialogue. goodness eddie, wash that mouth out with soap--but eddie’s speech patterns have varied wildly in the past 20 years so like, i don’t really mind that much even if i personally prefer an eddie who’s a little more... verbose. also like, when i first wrote a few venom fics, when i’d read a feeewww comics and seen the movie, i wrote him with a pretty similar way of speaking so eh. took me like 6 months and a decade’s worth of comics to reach the voice i give him now.
it felt like the comic was originally longer and then she presumably pared it down to the most important parts... i say this because it felt like the dialogue didn’t really flow into itself between pages. like each page was a new conversation, almost. that’s not... necessarily bad? it had an odd, disjointed quality but also like... that kinda works. it’s a weird little comic with kinda weird dialogue. and anyway like, ngl, when i write comics (and then never ever draw them), i also tend to write really weird, sparse dialogue myself, with basically no narration ever, so.... same/similar hat, ms. williams.
symby had good tone, said some good stuff, tho there were some weird “we”s in there but that’s also not particularly new or surprising. seems like a lot of authors never quite know how to juggle we vs. i, even costa who overall had a fairly consistent (if extremely simplified) grammar for the symbiote, broke those rules sometimes. But she gave the symbiote a consistent and distinct voice for her own style, which is more than i can say for donny tbh
That very large panel full of a bunch of venomized monsters (and t-rexes dfhjfg) making out? EXTREMELY inspired. “we can’t show them fucking but we CAN show them licking each other’s tongues, go nuts”
symbiote immediately waking eddie up when he gets legit frightened? also good. interesting that the scene that made him panic involved being chased down. i think that actually ties into some of eddie’s issues with consent in a way that was maybe not intentional (but who knows)
also the peephole.... him being like, heck no!!!! like... yep that sounds about right.
also the panel of the symbiote talking about eddie’s strong heartbeat, i liked that.
and i liked that the noodle came out of his shoulder in the mirror to look at him when he woke up... like... hey it’s me, your blob, don’t worry
definitely not actually 80s but i already figured that from the previews.
i don’t think eddie is actually all that afraid of monsters but.... that’s not exactly a dealbreaker, and headcanons or reads like that can get tricky/muddled from all the canon anyway. it did seem like his fear was a little less about the monsters and viscera and more about .... like... like i said, the being chased and consent stuff.
also the art like... i don’t hate, it’s fine and the dreamscape stuff is good, but it’s not really my fave. idk if it’s the colors or what but it has a weirdly..... squishy quality that i’ve seen in some other comics as well... dude can draw good venoms, for sure, but everyone and their mom knows i like my eddies with a big nose and bigger eyebrows so unsurprisingly i was not particularly into how he was drawn XD
(also brunette but that’s just for my own fanart)
(also hairy but hairy eddie seems to be a relic of the past... he’s been smooth since at least the 90s Unfortunately. i guess marvel decided to go from “every single dude is a shag rug” to “every single dude waxes”)
ANYWAY
overall
it was alright, i enjoyed it, nice to read something short or standalone, still wondering if maybe i did miss a page or something but i don’t think so? i don’t have a way to actually know so, shrug

An old fandom friend @stardustandseas asked for some Caleb whump recs, so here!! Have forty eight of my personal favourites (alongside some quality angst-fic because that’s in the general spirit of whump, too). Feel free to reblog this post and add your own faves / plug your own writing! And I’m sure more excellent hurt!Caleb and sad!Caleb will be written in the future, so I may reblog this and add to it at some point.
If one of your fics is listed here and you’d like your tumblr url added to the credits, drop me a message and I’ll try to do so.
(Please check the tags/warnings on the fic itself. I’ve tried to tag for spoilers as best I can - I’m counting spoilers as Caleb backstory stuff and recent [as of August 2018] campaign developments. I’ve not tagged triggers on these, but several involve graphic descriptions of violence, sexual assault, and other similar upsetting things – such is the nature of whump.)
-
“Betrothed” by MeBeShe (@matt-the-blind-cinnamon-roll) [Caleb/Molly; 70k WIP]
After nearly a decade of war, Archmage Caleb Widogast has brokered a peace with the Xhorasian empire. It comes at the cost of his hand in marriage. They send the Nonagon, leader of their bloodhunters, to marry him. He wasn't expecting a beautiful tiefling. He wasn't expecting Mollymauk Tealeaf.
[A truly delicious mix of slow-burn relationship, sexual tension and pining, and ongoing physical health issues and angst on Caleb’s side. It’s both soothing and emotionally satisfying, it’s currently my “save to read before going to bed” fic, and I love it so much.]
-
“the mist upon the hill” by BucketofWater (@ereborslionheart) [Caleb/Molly; 80k WIP]
Caleb is a mottled canvas of thin, white lacerations so many that Nott can hardly begin to count them all, she wouldn’t even know where to begin.
Or, the soulmate au where some soulmates share injuries and Caleb is very tired and very sore.
[My other current “save to read before going to bed” fic. It’s got everything – slow-burn, soulmates, angst, Caleb trying to hide his injuries, miscommunication… I also adore this one and honestly, the whump is just so satisfying.]
-
“Traveling Hearts” by CatKing_Catkin (@pangurbanthewhite) [Caleb/Molly; maybe spoilers?; 117k
A figure from Lucien's past shows up to collect on an old arrangement. When Molly doesn't want to talk business, the stranger takes him and the Mighty Nein for himself instead.
Caleb is only just able to get Jester to safety in time. But when the rest of his friends fall victim to their captor's vampiric thrall, that leaves him trapped and alone against the twisted attentions and easy cruelty of a wizard more powerful than he's ever dreamed of being.
Jester struggles to understand her enemies and make a plan of attack. Her friends are counting on her to save them, even if some of them don't know it anymore, and so she is determined to be the light in the darkness for them and all the people of Tanner's Crossing.
With a little bit of magic and a little bit of research and a whole lot of determination as they fight their own battles, Caleb and Jester might just save their friends before they lose themselves in the bargain.
[I’m… genuinely unsure if anything I could say about this fic would do it justice. Please, please read it if you haven’t already, because I adore everything about it and it’s delightful and stressful and upsetting and plotty and incredibly whumpy aahhh. I’d probably put it in the top ten fics I’ve ever read, which is high praise indeed.]
-
“The Trauma Cafe” by MeBeShe (@matt-the-blind-cinnamon-roll) [Caleb/Molly; major spoilers; 114k WIP]
There's a cafe that specializes in rehabilitating people with trauma. That cafe was home to Mollymauk Tealeaf. Now it's home to cult survivor Caleb Widogast.
[Another of the big campaign two fics that I suspect is something of a fandom classic by now. It’s less whump and more angst, past whump, and recovery, but I do suspect there might be some whump in the next few chapters. We’ll see. You absolutely have to read it, though, as with the above three.]
-
“The Mighty Fieber” by hufflepirate (@hufflepirate) [Gen; (major?) spoilers; 13k]
When Caleb gets very sick, the rest of the Nein take care of him. The fever draws some of Caleb's issues to the front, but if Beau can figure out how to use punching for medicinal purposes, she can figure out how to talk about feelings. Maybe. Caleb isn't used to being cared about, but sometimes if it's masked enough, he can navigate it anyway.
[Hey you know how good the “comes down with a fever and people don’t notice at first, and then they do and are really scared by how ill the person is” trope is? This fic is basically Entirely That.]
-
“starwalker” by ashinan (@ashinan) [Gen; 8k]
Those whose souls are claimed by the Fey are to be feared. Briderall learns this lesson the night Caleb is taken.
[There’s only a little whump in this, but it’s high quality whump, and the rest of the fic is so fucking good honestly. I adore terrifying unknowable eldritch creatures that dote on humans so...]
-
“Oversharing” by Verity_Kindle [Caleb/Fjord; 7k]
When a spell goes wrong, the group tries to deal with the fallout. Fjord’s biggest concern is for Caleb’s well-being, while Caleb’s is...complicated.
Otherwise titled, Why Magic and Secrets Don’t Mix: The Autobiography of Caleb Widogast.
[Old and now jossed, but I still love it - accidental / uncontrollable telepathy is such a good fic conceit, and this one has it in spades. Somewhat au since this was written with the first few eps of the new campaign, iirc, but I adore it nonetheless.]
-
“More Than This” by CatKing_Catkin (@pangurbanthewhite) [Gen; spoilers; 22k]
The Empire got a lot more unfriendly towards “unauthorized” mages, after the attack. Molly hadn’t even been aware that “unauthorized” mages were a thing beforehand, but suddenly they were. That was just the way things worked in the Empire, now more than ever, and it was one more thing The Mighty Nein had to roll with.
(Or, post Episode 12, the Mighty Nein get in trouble with the law by virtue of being a group containing a goblin, two tieflings, and a couple of mages. Caleb pulls off some heroics to let them get away, and by the time they find him again he's been hit with the Feeblemind spell as punishment. Rather fumbling attempts at coping ensue while the rest of the group tries to fix things.)
[I honestly can’t remember a Huge amount about this, but I remember it being angsty and kind and gentle, and I remember loving it. It’s also written by CatKing, and I love All their stuff, so that’s a point in its favour. Plus, feeblemind has such good angst and h/c potential tbh.]
-
“This is Not an Asphyxiation Kink” by Catzgirl (@fenesvir) [Caleb/Fjord; 3.5k]
Caleb is hiding some secrets from the gang, and they come back to haunt him at the very worst of times. Fjord is there to catch him.
[Hey remember when we were all convinced that Caleb had been waterboarded / drowned at some point, and was terrified of water? That was a good time tbh.]
and, from the same series, “The Leaving of Caleb Widogast” [Caleb/Fjord; 31k]
When there's no way out, Caleb makes his own.
[This is… honestly, very fucking good, and gripped me the whole way through. A beautiful mix of Caleb’s PoV and the panic of the others trying to find him, engaging all the way through to the climax.]
-
“the sea, take us back” by vannral (@vannral) [Caleb/Fjord; 9k]
The sea says: You are not welcome here. This place is not for you.
Caleb Widogast fights with everything he has to get back what was once ripped from him.
[A fun twist on the “Caleb is a werewolf” theory that everyone had at one point. Or, well. Not so fun for Caleb, but fun for the whump fans. Very intense and dramatic, very satisfying ending.]
-
“confession / absolution” by duckbunny (@duckbunny) [Caleb/Molly; spoilers; 8k]
Molly risks a glance over his shoulder – Caleb is a private kind of man, he won’t want to be stared at – and sees eyes so wide that Molly might have been ten foot of venom and claws. “No,” he says, slowly, “I don’t think you want to be alone. What’s up?"
[More emotional h/c and angst than whump, technically, but a favourite so I’m including it anyways. Also has some really nice smut as an added bonus, which is always fun.]
-
“[untitled]” by words-writ-in-starlight (@words-writ-in-starlight) [Caleb/Molly; 3k]
viciousmaukeries asked: Molly/Caleb, both of them injured, waking up beside each other. hell, maybe there's even a cave-in somewhere in there?
[Both Caleb and Molly whump, my favourite combination!]
-
“Suggestion” by pok3d3x (@tamiyos-pokedex) [Gen; maybe spoilers?; 6k]
In a world where mind altering magic is cheap, it's unwise to drink alone. The Mighty Nein step in to protect Caleb a little late.
[Caleb gets magic-roofied, and the team closes ranks to protect him and deal with the emotional fallout. Very intense and at times upsetting, but a delightful, emotional read.]
-
“Everything’s Coming Up Flowers” by thismagichour (@calebwidogasts) [Caleb/Fjord; 5k]
The Hanahaki Disease is an illness born from unrequited love, where the victim coughs up flower petals until the love is requited, or death.
Caleb loves Fjord, to the point that it's literally killing him.
[I’m always a slut for the Hanahaki disease trope, which is a cross between soulmates and whump in the best way. Also, this list is uhh… super Widomauk-heavy, so it’s nice to have a wee bit of variation.]
-
“till the last flower” by vannral (@vannral) [Caleb/Fjord; 8k]
The Hanahaki Disease is an illness born from one-sided love, where the patient coughs up flower petals. The infection can be removed through surgery, but the feelings disappear along with the petals.
Caleb Widogast is heartbroken and very tired.
[Hey look, I did say I’m a slut for this trope…]
-
“swallow up the flame like me” by words-writ-in-starlight (@words-writ-in-starlight) [Gen; major spoilers; 8k]
It has been nine days since Fjord, Jester, and Yasha disappeared in silence and left nothing behind them but blood and scuffed grass. When the rest of the Mighty Nein manages to capture someone who might have information, Caleb decides it's time to take things into his own hands and convinces Beau to let him.
[Not… technically whump but it’s such a nice, angsty, awful emotional portrait that I can’t help but include it…]
-
“a country far away as health” by LoosePilgrim [Gen; major spoilers; 2.6k]
In the fall of a certain year, in the north of a certain kingdom, a man took a body to a box and laid the body inside. He walked away from the body, and the body stayed there for many years.
When the body had been a boy (a man; a boy) it had had a good memory.
The body in the box had a good memory too. Here is what the body remembers:
[Kinda experimental and very weird - ymmv on whether it counts as whump, technically speaking - but, as with all the other kid-of-whump things on here, I love it, so. It’s staying.]
-
“be gone” by mnemememory [Gen; maybe spoilers?; 3k]
Beau has had this conversation before, in a different place, with a different man.
(or; beau walks out of a cupboard, and can't seem to find her way back)
[I’m… legit unsure if this should be on here, but it’s gorgeously written, and grindingly dark and unhappy, so I think it’s earned its place.]
-
“Disguise Self” by Agrotera (@agrotera-ilisos) [Caleb/Molly; maybe spoilers?; 10k]
“Even huddled beneath a cold, driving rain, Zadash was a brilliant city. It wasn’t substantially larger than the other cities Molly had visited when he was with the circus, nor was it especially more beautiful. The people certainly weren’t kinder. It stank of mud and horse dung, and the rain only helped to make the smell all the more oppressive. But there were little carts that lined the main avenues, and the proprietors of those little carts would sell you a bladder of still-hot mulled wine and an armful of cardamom and pistachio pastries for two silver coins and a smile.
All things considered—the gnolls, the fool bandits, the gods-be-twice-fucked weather—Molly couldn’t complain.”
It's their first night in Zadash, and Molly needs to get away. Caleb, unsure of Molly's motives, follows him.
[Less whump and more a character portrait with hints of past whump and trauma, with a copious helping of smut, but I love it, it’s on here, deal with it etc. etc. Honestly, I spent the whole time reading this sighing dreamily with delight at the perfect mix of sexy and Concerning, so like. You know it’s gotta be good.]
-
“A puzzled love of the light” by ottertrashpalace [Caleb/Molly; spoilers; 16k WIP]
Molly, possibly the most flamboyant queer individual ever to exist, wound up saving the life of a homophobic Christian picketer. It's not the weirdest thing that's ever happened to him, but suffice to say that it has long-ranging consequences he did not expect.
[Ymmv on the fic’s conceit (I personally enjoy it tbh), but it’s an enjoyable read with plenty of angst and emotional catharsis, and hints of more to come later...]
-
“a lighter in his pocket / a matchbook in his socks” by ScreechTheMighty (@screechthemighty) [Gen; major spoilers; 11k]
‘and a block full of charred skeletons / closeted, begging to get out’
The ghosts of your past catch up to you eventually. Sometimes, they bring more than just the memories with them.
[Again, unsure if this… technically counts as whump, but there’s enough miserable, stressed, panicking Caleb that I’m going to count it, honestly.]
-
“the echo valley” by vandenburg (@momlymauk) [Caleb/Molly; spoilers; 5k]
Sick from the incessant raining on their way to Shady Creek Run after a job well-done in the Labenda Swamp, Caleb receives some comfort – from Kiri.
[Sickfic!! Sickfic!! Sickfic!!! Also, Kiri being adorable, as an added bonus.]
-
“Snow Rise” by AiraKay [Gen; 1k]
Injured and alone, Caleb Widogast takes a moment to contemplate the falling snow and his place in the world.
[Somewhere between character study and whump, but very lovely.]
-
“Check the Cards” by Catzgirl (@fenesvir) [Caleb/Molly; 3k]
Molly ignores his foresight and everyone suffers for it.
[More from Molly’s PoV as Caleb gets injured, but it’s still a nice fic - very well-written and I love the way the author weaves Molly’s tarot cards into the narrative.]
-
“sunset” by aviators (@farfel) [Caleb/Molly; 3.5k]
Caleb brings a trembling hand up, cupping Molly’s cheek and pressing his thumb to his lips, wetting them with his own blood. “Hush, Mollymauk.”
“No. No,” Molly gasps out, hand meeting Caleb’s and grasping around it until both their knuckles turn white. “You’ve never known me to stop speaking my mind when I’m set on it. I’m not about to stop now, even for you.”
[Dreamy sighs about this fic tbh. Lovely Caleb whump, lovely Molly angst, long and difficult recovery, character introspection… hhh.]
-
“Scorched Bonds” by Akiko_Natsuko [Caleb/Molly; maybe spoilers?; 8k WIP]
“No!” It comes out as a strangled shout, his chest heaving and breaths coming in frantic pants. Too close, he had come so close to surrendering to the charm and if he had…the flames are roaring in his chest now, reminding him of what he can do, what those whispered words could have made him do.'
When a fight goes wrong and magic ensnares the rest of the Nein, Caleb is left alone, facing his friends… his family… and he's forced to make a choice.
[A lovely mix of whump and angst, with the “having to fight your friends” trope, and some aftercare as an added bonus.]
-
“Little Monster” by Lesetoilesfous (@lesetoilesfous) [Gen; 21k]
Nott hasn't been in prison for very long when she gets a cellmate, a human called Caleb.
This story follows the development of an unlikely friendship, and the way it saves two people who'd long since decided to give up on the world.
Or: prison is not the first place Nott imagined she'd find a family, but she isn't complaining.
[A Nott and Caleb meeting fic, with assorted whump and angst and getting out of prison shenanigans. Good, clean straight-up torture for both of them tbh.]
-
“My Friend Filthy” by 99BottlesOfBeerOnTheWall [Gen; maybe spoilers?; 21k]
Nott is a goblin with no friends, and nowhere to go. Caleb is a human with no family, and no hope left. They don’t expect each other, but Caleb is empty, and Nott needs something to care for. So they work with the broken pieces.
Together is better.
[Another, slightly longer variation on the above theme - I just love All the ‘Caleb’s in jail and miserable and barely a human’ fics. This one plays especially hard on the ‘barely a human’ bit, which is delightful.]
-
“twisting the kaleidoscope behind both my eyes” by confines (@wholeneinyards) [Gen; maybe mild spoilers?; 5k]
Nott and Caleb meet in jail. They escape together and then they survive together.
[A nice whumpy, angsty backstory elaboration piece.]
-
“The Courage and The Fall” by mollymauks [Caleb/Molly; 4k]
Prompt: “Shivering long after everyone else has stopped.” After ending up fighting a battle submerged in a frozen lake, the Mighty Nein strip off in their camp to dry out and warm up. All but one. Content warning: this fic deals quite a lot with scars, if that’s not your cup of tea, maybe avoid.
Teaser: “I’m going to stop you freezing to death, you idiot,” he said simply, hand still extended. Caleb still didn’t move. “Trust me,” Molly murmured, his words only for the darkness and the wizard staring up at him, the firelight glinting on his pale eyes making them look strangely opaque and ghostly. “I should think I’d proved myself quite adept at keeping you alive after all this time.”
Caleb stared at him for another long, thundering heartbeat, then he let a soft laugh huff past his lips. He reached up and grabbed Molly’s forearm, letting him pull him to his feet.
[What kind of whump rec list would this be if I didn’t have a “cuddling for warmth” fic on here…? A terrible one, that’s what.]
-
“Süss” by drekkeri (@tragedyboycentral) [Caleb/Molly; 3k]
Caleb was pretty sure he was dead. It was the only logical explanation.
He was drenched in sweat, trembling, and the mere act of thinking for more than two seconds took more effort than he could manage. As he tried to get out of bed he grabbed onto the wall, holding his head as he saw spots of back.
Yeah, he was definitely dead.
[A lovely fic involving diabetic!Caleb’s blood sugar dropping too low and his friends having to work out what’s wrong and help him. Whumpy, plenty of the ‘panicked confused friends’ trope, and with a happy, fluffy ending.]
-
“A Lovely Man” by Justanotherfangirl [Caleb/Molly; 1.5k]
Caleb gets injured, and Molly can’t keep his feelings for him a secret any longer.
[Whump, love confessions, bleeding out…? What more could you want from a fic.]
-
“Me for You” by MeBeShe (@matt-the-blind-cinnamon-roll) [Caleb/Molly; 5k]
Caleb gets badly wounded when a mission goes awry. Molly uses his Bloodhunter powers to heal him, despite Caleb's protesting.
[Another excellent whumpy character study thing, short and sweet but delightful, fluffy schmoop for an ending.]
-
“Another Part of Surviving” by notsoappropro [Caleb/various; 1.5k]
He doesn’t anticipate it, the first time. He’s head to toe in filth, having slept under trees and in city alleyways for an uncountable number of days on Nott and his neverending escape. The grime under Caleb's fingernails is aggressively visible in a clean store he clearly cannot afford to be in as he counts his silver. He only has four, it’s all they have between the two of them, and it’s many coins short for the medicine they need.
[A kinkmeme fill technically, but angsty enough to be included here, just about. A series of vignettes on the times Caleb is forced to prostitute himself.]
-
“Hot and Cold” by Emberforge [Gen; 3k]
It was all going well, until it wasn't.
[Caleb gets poisoned, and the team deal with it; mild whump, plenty of aftercare and worrying. Short and sweet.]
-
“What Friends Are For” by Justanotherfangirl [Gen; maybe spoilers?; 8k]
It’s been a long time since Caleb had any friends, since he had deserved to have any friends. But with the Mighty Nein, he found himself caring almost in spite of himself. And the Mighty Nein might just care about him too.
[A lovely collection of drabbles exploring Caleb’s relationship with the other members of the Nein, through the medium of whump and comfort/care.]
-
“Here with You” by Akiko_Natsuko [Caleb/Molly; 1.7k]
It was a terrible plan from the start, but it was the only one they had. Fortunately Molly and Caleb were together, and that might just be enough in the face of a situation that brings the past pressing in on them.
[Less physical whump and more delicious descriptions of panic and misery, which imho count as whump / give me the same whump feels as physical whump does. Also, Caleb locked in a cell!]
-
“Dominate Person is Never Really A Good Time” by sterphfy [Gen; 4.5k]
The title kind of sums it up. Some angst, some implied Molly/Caleb, but painfully little physical contact. probably done, but may write a companion later.
[More fun with mind control and hurting friends! I’m predictable in the tropes I like.]
-
“bruises and comfort” by vannral (@vannral) [Caleb/Fjord; 643]
After a random battle, Caleb's less than fine and Fjord's there, helping.
[Pretty much exactly what it says on the tin - Caleb’s hurt, Fjord looks after him and comfort him. Short, satisfying, sweet.]
-
“Hidden and New” by Avorna [Caleb/Nott; 3k]
Fighting a horde illithid is well above their job description.
In the midst of battle, Caleb is caught by a desperate illithid and it decides to play with his more well kept memories.
[On here primarily for the first half, where Caleb nearly gets his brain eaten, and gets thoughts and memories he wants to keep secret broadcast to the MN - which is always a good time.]
-
“Storm After the Calm” by UzbekistanRules [Gen; major spoilers; 1.5k]
Caleb deserves nothing. Or... so he thinks.
[More self-loathing and emotional h/c than whump, but some nice mentions of past whump and tbh panic attacks probably count as whump? The aftercare in this is also very lovely.]

“What Was, What Is” by lostsometime [Gen; mild spoilers; 1k]
Caleb would have been able to stop himself from causing collateral damage with his spells, once. He can't now.
[Again, more angst than whump; again, I like it enough to include it here, and also panic attacks / dissociation totally do count as whump in some circumstances tbh.]

“Fever Dream” by Chaya (@fieldbears) [Gen; major spoilers; 245]
Someone asked for either Caleb or Molly to be delirious with fever. This is probably the least creatively titled thing I have put up in a while, but at least there's plenty of angst?
[Honourable mention, as it’s a very short little drabble - but what there is of it is delicious, so I couldn’t leave it off.]

“Feeblemind” by Chaya (@fieldbears) [Caleb/Molly; spoilers; 13k WIP]
There are some ugly spells out there. Sometimes you just have to do your best to get through it.
[Fun times with the feeblemind spell, and then the emotional fallout from that for the whole group. Bonus Molly angst too, which is always nice! May or may not have been abandoned, but what’s there is somewhat complete in and of itself, so...]

“Under His Gaze” by EllenofX [Gen; maybe spoilers?; 4k WIP]
Caleb is a smart man. It is a fact that he is more cautious of now, with how far astray it once led him, but one that is undeniable. So, when a stranger wakes them in the dead of night, it does not take him long to figure out that he and his companions are being toyed with. That they have been toyed with for quite a while, now.
[Another ‘is it abandoned?’ fic - essentially a variation on the theme of ‘Travelling Hearts’ recced above. First chapter seems pretty whumpy though, so fingers crossed it continues!]

“Our Early Days Are Always With Us” by sandssavvy (@sandssavvy) [Gen; major spoilers; 8k WIP]
Sometimes the past won't let you rest.
After a run in with Trent, Caleb isn't sure he will ever find rest again.
[Again, unsure if this has been abandoned?? It’s not terribly whumpy as-is, mostly angst, but if it’s not on permanent hiatus then it should get whumpy…]

Lastly (and shamelessly), I’m gonna plug my own writing here. The only whumpy fic I’ve written for Caleb is “lesser of two evils” [Gen; 2.4k]:
Caleb’s running a fever by the time the rest of the Mighty Nein find him.
He was expecting that much – he’s done this before, after all, knows that it’s a bad idea and will not go well in the long run. However, bleeding out in the middle of a forest is also not a good idea, and will also not go well in the long run. The difference is that bleeding out in the middle of a forest will go exceptionally poorly in the short run, so it’s a lesser-of-two evils sort of thing. He’s well-versed in Faustian bargains, made both unwittingly and otherwise. It’s fine.
(In which Caleb gets separated from the rest of the group, and then injured, and then some rather ill-advised DIY field medicine involving fire. The rest of the Mighty Nein are left to pick up the pieces when they find him.)
However, I’ve got other whumpy tidbits and headcanons under my general #critrole 2.0 tag (though my blog / that tag frequently contain nsfw or triggering material, as a heads-up).
#critfic#caleb widogast#whump#stardustandseas#critrole 2.0#fic rec#this is legit 48 fics i'm not kidding#it's taken me the majority of friday sat in a coffee shop and my sunday evening to do lmfao#donation of time to the Glorious Cause of caleb being hurt and / or miserable#(tho tbh canon blesses us with plenty of that already like. the boy's a projectile weapon magnet)
