NAME: Vegetable Lamb
ALSO KNOWN AS: Barometz, Planta Tartarica Barometz
RARITY: ★★☆☆☆
THREAT LEVEL: ★☆☆☆☆ | Don’t worry about it.
DESCRIPTION: Vegetable lambs are grown all over the world in supernatural circles, but they can be hard to raise. It is recommended that only experienced botanists try to grow one. They will generally fit in a pot, and as saplings they can be easily moved around. They live for about two years. Like other sheep, the vegetable lamb can be sheared and its wool used to make clothes, although it’s in a small quantity. The vegetable lamb has both animal and plant physiology. It reproduces like a plant would, but it has an animal’s bones, blood, and flesh. They are capable of feeling pain, but are known to taste pretty good. In the spring they produce fruit which are said to be extremely sweet-tasting. There is a mutation that occurs in domesticated lines that sometimes causes the back half of a lamb to bud instead of the front half.
WEAKNESS: Why would you ever.
NOTE: Wooliam the vegetable lamb has won “most impressive vegetable lamb” at a local fair for 6 years in a row now.
OTHER VARIANTS:
Vegetable ram: Some vegetable lambs become vegetable rams in maturity, which lack the sweet temperament of the lambs they once were. Rams are likely to headbutt anyone who tries to touch them, even a trusted owner who raised them from a sprout. This can be emotionally challenging for those rearing vegetable lambs. However, the horns of a vegetable ram are potent ingredients for any kind of earth magic, and are also used in some potions. They regrow on the ram after a few months – which means you’ll be free of painful headbutts within that time frame too.
Alpine barometz: Rarely bred in captivity, these vegetable lambs grow in high altitude areas. They have thicker wooly coats and impressive beards, as well as sharp horns that don’t curl around like those of a vegetable ram. Alpine barometz don’t root into the ground, but instead use their very long roots to cling to the sides of even sheer cliffs that face the sun in the morning. This can look alarming as they resemble half of a sheep or goat stuck to a cliff. They have little need for water and are able to stay hydrated from rain and snow alone. While non-aggressive, they can make it difficult to climb the areas they cling to, and will try to eat your clothes if you attempt to pass them. Their thick wool, when harvested, can offer supernatural protection from the cold, though this typically requires a lot of wool for good coverage.

Just thoughts of Toji being the most clingy, obsessed, bear boyfriend ever. You could be getting up from the couch to go get something to snack on from the kitchen and he'll hum and click his tongue like that's a no no, not even looking up at you when you stand, as he asks "where are you going?" in his deep voice. It makes you sit down again, but if he feels you're even an inch off from where you sat before, he'll fix that so quickly, bringing you right back to where you were, thigh to thigh with him.
Even when you're sleeping he likes to keep you attached to him. He either tangles his legs with yours or puts his leg over your hip when he's spooning you. If you're sleeping facing him, he keeps a hand on your back and digs his palm in so that you're pressed as close as you can comfortably be against him.
Oh, but mornings are a task and a half with him. It's hard enough to escape his arms because when you do manage to get out, he catches you by the hem of your shirt, not caring if it gets stretched out, and pulls you right back into his arms and doubles down on strapping you tightly in his hold by wrapping his forearm around your bare waist and keeping one of your legs locked between his. He grunts when you successfully escape, and roll out of bed. He's squinting, barely opening his sleep ridden eyes to look at you, yet he's dead set on luring you back into bed with him. He taps his hand on the space directly in front of him and mumbles a low "Come back" that brings you back, even if it made you roll your eyes. If you don't get back into bed, he follows you around all grumpy and groggy. Rests his chin in his palm all sleepy as he sits down and watches you make breakfast.
Speaking of food, he will not get out of the way when you're cooking. He's that attached to you. You're cutting vegetables and he has his arms wrapped around your waist, resting his chin on the top of your head. If you cut yourself because you're trying to move too fast, he's dragging you over to the kitchen sink to rinse off the cut and wrapping your finger in a paper towel just for the time it takes him to run to the bathroom and get a bandaid. Will mumble into your ear, telling you to slow down when you start rushing your chopping again. Hums into your neck as you put all the prepped ingredients into a big pot. He ignores the stressed sighs you let out as you try to jump from space to space with him latched onto your back. King of "can I try it?" You tell him no and every five minutes he goes "can I try it now?" "How about now?" "Smells good. Now?"
Small NSFW section
During sex, he likes getting all the skin to skin he can get with you. Doggy style? He's leaning his body over your back and holding onto your tits as he rams into you. You're riding him? He has his hands on your hips, his forearms resting on your thighs. During missionary, he runs his hands all over your body, but since he wants to look at you as you lose your mind over how he fucks you, he refrains from leaning into you unless it's for the purpose of kissing or marking up your body. Loves prone bone because he gets to weigh you down and slowly make love to you while whispering sweet nothings into your ear in that honey-like voice.
Yeah... just Toji being a suffocating, clingy bear.

[SUMMARY: After roughly taking your virginity unknowingly, Joel does his best to make the second time around more comfortable for you.]
“I’ll make you feel it again and I promise it ain’t gonna hurt this time”
Part one
Smut
(There is a 50 limit on people who I can tag, I didn’t know so many would want to be tagged sorry I didn’t get everyone!)
It was early in the morning when you woke up to Ellie still asleep and Joel nowhere to be found. You figured he was out keeping himself busy close by, and so you decided to make something for everyone to eat using what you had. Your mind never stopped thinking about what you had just done the day before, you wondered how he was going to act with you in front of Ellie.
Cutting up some vegetables that you grew you heard the door open and knew it was him. Joel walked inside to find you by the kitchen area before looking up to his left and seeing Ellie was still asleep.
“Hi” you spoke softly as his eyes found you again. He gave you a nod as he walked towards you while you struggled to think of something else to say.
“So um, I’m making-“
“You still in pain?” He suddenly asked in a rough low voice. Of course you were, not even twenty four hours earlier Joel had just rammed himself in you not knowing you had never been touched. You shook your head before you could think of a word to say to his unexpected question.
“N-not really, maybe a little but I’m fine” you assured him as once again you began to think of how good it ended. It was worth it to be a little sore. Now if it was ever going to happen again, you weren’t sure, but you couldn’t help but ask how else you could make yourself feel that wonderful high he made you feel.
“Joel um…can I ask you something?”
“Mhm” he stood across from you.
“Well…um, you know that feeling I told you I felt when you made me-“
“Mhm” he cut you off being careful Ellie wasn’t eavesdropping yet eager to hear your question.
“How can I feel that same feeling again…I mean…I know we probably won’t um do that again but I want to feel it…how can I in another way?” You question was hesitant, you almost felt stupid.
He took a deep breath trying to find a way to not react in that moment, an image of you laying in bed with your hand between your legs making yourself cum now in his head and you didn’t even do it purposely.
“Joel?” Your voice snapping him out of it making him look back at you.
“You’ve never-“
“No. I mean we had health class and people spoke but I never…” you tried to explain when Ellie’s voice caught you both off guard.
“Hey are you making those vegetable fritters again?” Ellie asked with excitement running up beside you as Joel silently walked out the back door.
“Uh, yes. Hey why don’t you finish cutting these for me so I can go collect the rest of the vegetables.” Ellie nodded and took over with the knife in her hand as you walked out.
Joel stood in the back staring off into the woods trying to control himself with the thoughts you just put into his head. He knew last night shouldn’t have happened, especially not the way it did but how the hell was he suppose to ignore this urge for you. His thoughts being interrupted by the sound of the door slamming shut as you walked out.
“Sorry, I just needed to get a few things” you uttered low as he looked over his shoulder at you.
“What the hell are you trynna to do to me?”
“What?” You asked confused as he turned looking behind you making sure Ellie wasn’t following you out. Quickly he stepped closer to you, with a very similar look he had the night before.
“I’m trying my best here to not-“ he cut himself off, his eyes drifting down to your lips.
“To not what?” You asked confused making him look back up, but he didn’t speak.
“Look Joel, if you don’t wanna tell me what I asked-“ he suddenly grabbed your face and kissed you making you stumble back against the wall. Still holding your face in his hands he pulled his lips away, his eyes darkened.
“No I don’t wanna tell you,”
“I wanna show you” his words sending a tingle to the pit of your stomach.
“You wanna feel what you felt last night, darlin’?” His eyebrows furrowed as his hands dropped to your waist holding you close.
“Y-yes”
“I’ll make you feel it again and I promise it ain’t gonna hurt this time”
“Joel…I…I don’t care if it hurts...I just want-“
“Hey, I’m done cutting the vegetables!” Ellie called out from inside making Joel quickly turn away from you thinking she came out. You took a deep breath grabbing the vegetables and walked back inside not saying another word.
That evening the three of you sat at the table together having dinner as you usually did. Ellie raised her brows looking back and fourth between you and Joel as you both didn’t lift your heads up from your plates.
“So uh, I was gonna ask if I can try fishing later?”
“By yourself?” Joel quickly looked up directly at her.
“Uh yeah, I mean its right there. We have most of the area closed off. Why not?”
“I don’t know, Ellie. I doubt you’d be able to catch more than I can anyway” he teased her making you look up.
“Nuh uh, wanna bet?”
Joel knew exactly what he was doing, Ellie out of the cabin leaving the place to just you and him…exactly what he had in mind.
“It’s on” Joel chuckled making you smile, it was rare to see Joel in a light hearted mood.
After dinner you watched as Ellie excitedly packed her stuff to fish with Joel making sure she had all she needed.
“You sure she’s gonna be safe there?” You asked making him look up at you.
“I wouldn’t let her go if I thought she wasn’t” he responded as you stood by the counter.
“Ok” you whispered as they finished up packing before Joel walked her to the lake leaving you alone in the cabin.
Being alone with Joel in doors bought an excitement to you that you never felt before. You knew what this meant with Ellie not there and had an idea. Looking at a tiny dirty mirror that was hung on the wall you began to undress yourself. It was strange, although this man had already taken your virginity, he still had yet to see your naked body.
With only a sweater on you watched out the window until you saw him finally approaching. Quickly throwing the sweater aside you positioned yourself by the counter that he would see the second he walked in. Your heart racing hearing the door knob turn until it finally opened, your naked body catching Joel completely off guard. Clenching his jaw he shut the door behind him as you stood awkwardly not sure what to do with your hands. Joel could tell you were nervous, your innocence arousing him a bit more. His eyes slowly finding the sight of your breasts, he began to make his way towards you without taking his eyes off them. Neither of you said a word but he could see you began to breathe heavier as your chest rose and fell in a fast pace. He stopped before you, slowly looking back up into your eyes.
“Now I’m trying my very best to not sit you up on that counter and take you just like I did last night but you’re making it too damn hard for me to not-”his eyes wandered to your naked body again.
“To not just do what I wanna do without thinking. But I promised you I wasn't gonna hurt you, and I keep my promises, darlin”. He looked back up at you.
“Joel-“ you whispered.
“Mm mm” he shook his head,
“I don’t wanna hear a word…not unless you’re cumming for me. I just want you to lay yourself on my bed” he proceeded to take off his jacket as you looked at where he slept. He watched as you nervously lay back on his pillow as he slowly lay beside you turned towards you. Silently his eyes drifted down to your body as you nervously took a deep breath. His large rough hand gently brushing over your hard nipples, he wondered if any other man had the pleasure in ever seeing them before let alone touching them. Slowly he moved down to your bare thigh as you looked up at him curiously.
“What are you gonna do?”
His eyes found yours as his fingers creeped to your inner thigh. He didn’t respond, gently pulling your thigh towards him, making your legs spread. He instantly felt you leg jerk back a bit, he knew you were nervous. You didn’t even realize you had done it.
“C’mere” he whispered pulling your leg completely against him before feeling his fingers trace your slit delicately.
“I’m gonna make sure you’re ready for me” his lips brushing against your ear sending goosebumps through your body just as you felt his finger on your very clit. Slowly he began to move his finger in a circular motion building up the pleasure little by little. Moaning softly he watched as your body began to squirm with excitement before sliding his finger down and feeling how wet you already were.
“Oh there it is” he whispered just as he slid his large finger in. You softly gasped as he leaned his lips against your face, you could feel his hard on against your thigh. Your fingers digging into the covers beneath you, just like that he was slowly finger fucking you…
So many thoughts running through your mind had all just melted away with what he was doing to you, you hadn’t even noticed just how focused he was on watching you as he continued until he spoke.
“That feel good, baby?” You looked up barely able to speak. The sound of your wet pussy speaking for itself, arousing him more.
“Joel..” you choked out jerking your hips upward, he knew what was about to happen.
“Joel…I think…I think it’s happening again” you rolled your eyes back as he moved his hand faster pressing his lips together. You grabbed onto his shirt, nails digging in, he watched as your back arched and lips opened but no sound came out before you cried out like I never before.
“Oh my god-“ you whimpered, your body still shaking against his as his hand slowly stopped. Your legs moving uncontrollably…you both locked eyes.
“Joel-“
“Shh, just feel it, baby” you panted looking up at him and pulled him in for a passionate kiss.
Joel kissed you before suddenly whispering something you didn’t expect.
“Get on me, baby” he began to undress himself quickly before you could say a word. For some reason your heart sunk at the thought, you didn’t know how to ride a man much less a man of his size.
“Joel, I can’t-“ you whispered looking down at how hard he was.
“C’mere” he pulled your arms landing your hands on his bare shoulders.
“Joel wait, I don’t know how-“
“Look at me” he pulled your leg over him as you struggled to keep your balance holding onto him, you froze feeling his cock begin to enter you.
“Look at me, baby. You don’t have to do a damn thing” he held onto your hips as he slowly pushed upward while pulling you down on him. This angle only made him feel bigger, still sore from the day before the you winced making Joel instantly stop.
“You alright?”
“Yes” you whispered looking down at him. It seemed no matter how aroused you were, it was still bound to hurt, being sore also didn’t help.
“It’s ok just..just do it” he quickly shook his head at your suggestion.
“Don’t tell me that, I told you I wasn’t gonna hurt you” you felt his hands squeeze your hips, you knew he was doing his best to control his urge to thrust.
“Joel” you insisted with a look while leaning on his chest. Without saying a word, with full force he thrusted upward making you loudly gasp. The fullness you felt you were almost afraid to move, he remained still beneath you allowing you to adjust to his size.
“Dammit” he whispered breathlessly seeing the discomfort on your face. His hand gently brushing up your body, caressing your face. Slowly he pulled your body down completely against his, kissing you he attempted to distract you from the pain. You could feel his heart racing against your chest as you felt him very slowly pull out half way before sliding back in. You whimpered against his lips as he moved as gentle as he could. He continued this way until he felt your body relax, moving at a steady pace until you pushed yourself up and began to move on your own. He watched as you balanced yourself on him and began to ride him with ease.
“That’s it baby” His hands down on your thighs as he looked down and watched himself disappear in you. This position felt different but you liked it, he could feel how much you liked it. Closing your eyes you moaned throwing your head back when you felt his hands cup your breasts. He didn’t say much but he didn’t have to, the sound of his breathing and the way he touched you said enough. Moving in a faster pace he groaned appreciating the view of you on top, watching your hips grind sensually. His hands abruptly moved down your body as he unexpectedly took back control. You felt his legs lift up beneath you while holding you in place. His hands grabbing your ass he thrusted upward as fast as he could, watching your expressions change from the overwhelming pleasure.
“Joel-“
“Go ahead, cum for me” he demanded out of breath. Both of your bodies sweaty, your hands sliding up his chest but he held, the pressure you felt was much bigger than you had felt before.
“Oh my God-“ your nails digging into his chest, this time it felt much more intense, you didn’t think you could handle it.
“Joel, I can’t-“
“Yes you can” he panted. You squeezed your eyes shut, he felt you tighten up when ecstasy erupted throughout your body. Moaning almost in desperation, you held onto him barely able to keep yourself balanced. His mouth open watching your breasts bounce to his quick movements, he felt your cum drip down his balls. He watched you in awe, holding you steady on him as you felt complete loss of control.
“Oh yeah..” he whispered just as he felt himself about to explode. He quickly lifted you up and moaned in a way you had never heard before. Still on top of him, you leaned back, watching his hips jerk upward as his warm load spilled out of him.. Another harsh sound escaping his lips, yet you couldn’t take your eyes off his cock. His hand wrapped around it, finishing himself off, he looked down and noticed how you watched. He could barely speak taking a minute to catch his breath.
“You ok?” He whispered making you look up at him.
“Are you?”
Joel chuckled as sweat dripped down the side of his head and nodded.
The two of you were silent as you got dressed but you could feel Joel’s eyes on you. He knew there must’ve been alot running through your mind but he wasn’t a mind reader.
“You alright darlin’?”
“Can I ask you something?” You looked at him curiously.
“Of course”
“Does….does it feel the same way for you…the way it does for me….when you-“ Joel chuckled making you cross your arms.
“Why are you laughing, it’s an honest question”
Joel pulled your arms wrapping them around him, as he wrapped his around your waist.
“It can feel pretty intense…like just now” he responded calmly with a slight smirk.
“It almost made it hard for me to get you up on time” and you knew exactly what could happen if he didn’t. He pulled you in for a kiss as you were still lost in thought.
“You know-“ you gently pushed him back.
“It felt a lot…stronger today..while I was on top of you.”
“I take it you like riding me then, huh,” he whispered as he kissed the side of your face.
“I wanna try different things, Joel” your eyes rolled back feeling his scruff against your neck, his lips leaving a trail of soft kisses.
“We will” you smiled when the random thought of how much of an ass he used to be with you came to mind.
“Hey….why’d you always give me a hard time at first” your question making him stop as he took a deep breath. He took a step back as he looked down thinking of how to respond.
“I was trying to avoid this”
“Having sex with me?” You almost laughed making him look up, the seriousness in his eyes made you quickly stop.
“There’s a lot you don’t know about me and I just didn’t think it was a good thing for you” he rubbed his facial hair as you raised a brow.
“So what’s the difference between then and now?” Joel cleared his throat knowing a moment of weakness from him was what made the difference.
“Seeing you wearing my shirt that night” his words making you blush.
“Do you regret it?” You asked hesitantly.
“Of course not” he responded quicker than you expected.
“I only regret not knowing you were a virgin, for your sake.” You didn’t exactly know how to respond and so you looked down with slight embarrassment.
“Hey” he placed his hand on your waist pulling you in.
“I’m glad it was me” he whispered before kissing you gently and making his way to the door.
“We’ll be back in a few” he left you standing there silently, you couldn’t help but wonder what this meant although you promised yourself you wouldn’t think too much into it…

Regular prayer
Dionysos, god whose arrival is swift and certain, enduring friend of women and men whose welcome is warm, bringer of light, we see you in shadows. Dionysos, granter of great blessings, your presence is a heady wine. Kind-hearted god, to each you give as is fitting, each vessel you fill only as we can bear, and yet with even a sip, we are drunk upon you, and our faith is affirmed. Awesome god, by our own will we drink deeply, with you we become lost, we wander, we are found.
Litany to Dionysos
Dionysos of the vine, rich-tressed god of wine, potent and lusty, unmixed, undiluted, with full force you come to us, vital and robust, rich and strong and surprisingly sweet. Dionysos, I praise and honor you, I thank you for your blessings. Ivy-bearing Dionysos, god of the green, of the power of root on stone, the force of life that will make its own way in spite of all who labor to hold it back, no will or work can bind your might. I praise and honor you, I thank you for your blessings. Dionysos of the deep earth, of the dark world, of the unknown expanse beneath the black soil, beneath solid stone, of mysteries you know much, of death and of what lies beyond. God of secrets, I praise and honor you, I thank you for your blessings. Dionysos the inspiring, granter of words of prose or poesy, words heard best by the drunken and the mad, words forgotten with the passing of night and delight. Bacchus, granter of rare transport, I praise and honor you, I thank you for your blessings. Dionysos Soter, holder of the hearts of men, you free us from the cares of the world, each brilliant frenzied moment a shining jewel, each glimpse of the sacred more precious than gold. I praise and honor you, I thank you for your blessings. Kindly Dionysos, granter of good to men and women, giver of gifts to all who seek your blessing. Gracious Dionysos, accepter of offerings great and small, friend of mankind, I praise and honor you, I thank you for your blessings.
Regular Prayer to Dionysos
Dionysos, deep-hearted one who knows the souls of men and women, whose hand is ever open, ever within reach. Dionysos, god who runs in the dark, who sees with eyes shut tight, who dances to the heart’s strong beat, ever are you yourself, ever constant, ever changing god of those who are trapped, those who seek your truth and their own, those who seek vision beyond seeing, those who seek wisdom beyond knowledge, those who seek the self, pure and sweet, those who seek clarity beyond definition, who seek to embrace the uncertain, to hold, but loosely, to what is true beyond trust.
Regular prayer to Dionysos
I praise Dionysos, lord of the vine, lord of the far reaches of the mind; in the thick of the woods, along darkened paths, in the shadows of dusk and of dawn, you roam the world, the satyrs and the pretty nymphs dancing in your wake. Son of Zeus and fair-haired Semele, bold-hearted Semele, who dared to look into the face of glory, beautiful Semele who you carried into life again, Semele reborn who men called Thyone; beloved of clever Ariadne, quick-witted one, so dear to your heart, your bright-eyed bride and consort; Dionysos, friend of women, friend of the blissful, wild-eyed maenads, pilgrims and pioneers, those who seek, your cheer and inspiration, those who seek your release, from sorrow and despair, those who are lost in joy, and those who have found themselves in you. Dionysos, god of the darkest dark and the deepest deep, boundless one, endless one, fathomless one, in you we see the edges of ourselves, in you, we find our life’s journey, in you we find our home.
To Dionysos
I call to Dionysos, great god of the vine, son of thundering Zeus and headstrong Semele, loving husband of warm-hearted Ariadne. From the east you came, old before the ancients, throughout the elder world were you beloved; in Naxos and Boitia were you celebrated, in temples and in the savage wilderness, the fleet-footed maenads running in your wake. The sweetest, strongest wine is ever your drink; the mind’s release, the body’s loosening, your gift. O Dionysos; thyrsus-shaker, ivy-crowned god, we see you in the shadows, we see you on the edges, we see you in the haze of ecstasy, where we know the truth of passion, where we find the essence of our being. Bacchus, I call to you!

we finally have them all so I tried identifying all the things that could help determine what the hell these cards are trying to represent. Under the cut is just the alt text copypasted.
Senkuu holding up test tubes, standing before a lab table. Behind him is the medusa device. In the background is the moon rising over the earth.
Ryusui sitting cross legged over a throne, featuring a ship's wheel over the backrest and two ram figureheads at the arm rests. In the background is the ocean and the horizon.
Chrome sitting cross legged in the air. He's inspecting a green stone in his hand and holding a bindle over his shoulder. Behind him is (?) one of the copper plates that he made for the hand crank generator. The background features distant rock formations on the horizon.
Ukyo standing holding his bow and nocking an arrow. Behind him is a set of scales. Behind that is a radar display. The background is the ocean floor.
Kohaku posing in a golden field. In the foreground is bunches of red and white flowers. The red flowers are larger, I'm uncertain if it's five or six petals. They look similar to lilies or amaryllis but the leaves are ovate rather than linear. The white flowers are tiny, with five petals and no discernible stem structure. Behind her is a male lion, followed by an image of her iron shield. The background is field, green hills, then sky.
Tsukasa standing, holding a shell necklace in one hand. He is framed by a wreath of leafy vines. In the foreground is clouds framing the bottom part of the picture. The background is a blue sky.
Suika standing in ankle deep water, near the shore of what looks like a river. In the foreground are leafy vines. The leaves have three distinct lobes and the leaf margins are entire rather than undulated, so they're unlikely to be watermelon leaves. They look more like passionfruit. Surrounding Suika are six floating 8-pointed stars. The one directly over her head is gold while the others range from white to pale blue. The background is land scattered with sparse vegetation, and a night sky.
Yuzuriha and Taiju standing together under their camphor tree. They are holding a large red ribbon that twists over their heads.
Hyoga standing holding his spear. He is surrounded by ice shards blowing off of the glacier around his feet.
Kirisame and Moz standing before a cliff. Kirisame is holding a small club while Moz is holding a spear. There are stylized clouds surrounding them. Behind them is an image of the Petrification Kingdom's emblem.
Kinro and Ginro standing before Ishigami Village's entrance bridge, crossing their silver and gold tipped spears. A circular image of an Ishigami village home's entrance with its dark purple curtains is behind them. Save for Chrome's tower, all the village buildings have these purple curtains for doors.
Nikki and Minami sitting together. Behind them is an image of the ISS crew's glass record cut into the shape of a crescent, behind which is Minami's camera lens. The background glows orange surrounding the record/camera image, and it's hard to tell what exactly it is. It could be the sun.
Gen sitting criss-cross on the ground. There are five 8-pointed stars floating around him. He is holding up one hand, above which floats a glowing purple crystal. It seems to be night time.

Gimme A Break - Eddie Munson x Reader
An As You Wish Story
Collaboration with my beloved @munson-blurbs
Summary: A trip to the grocery store has you running into some familiar faces--and one not so friendly.
Note: Let Brittany bashing commence!
Warnings: talk of body image
Words: 2k
[As You Wish masterlist]
In your opinion, there’s no such concept as a bad time for soup. The dead of winter, the stifling heat of summer—it’s all good.
The fall weather that’s rolled into Hawkins has inspired you to try your hand at making some from scratch, bringing you to Bradley’s Big Buy on a Sunday afternoon. You’re inspecting a bag of carrots for freshness and tossing them in the cart haphazardly when you feel a sudden thump against your leg.
“Wha—” you start, ready to confront whoever was careless enough to ram into you. Your scowl immediately softens when you see the two smiling faces looking up at you. “Oh, hi boys!”
Luke, unsurprisingly, is the one who ran into you at full speed. Ryan is a few paces behind his bull-in-a-china-shop brother, but his expression is equally happy.
You crouch down to give each of them a hug. The way they both wrap their arms around you radiates love’s warmth, and it melts your heart.
“Are you buying anything good?” you ask, knowing they’ll be wholly unimpressed with your basket full of vegetables.
Luke nods vigorously. “CHICKEN NUGGETS!” He bellows, drawing irate glares from nearby shoppers. “Daddy has a cool-pon.”
“It’s coupon,” Ryan says with a gentle roll of his eyes.
You’re still stuck on the mention of their dad. Eddie’s here? And you don’t have on a lick of makeup—of course.
“Where is Daddy?” you ask, looking up and down the aisle in the unlikely event that you missed him.
“He’s uh…” Luke trails off, scrunching his nose as he searches for his dad. Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain” crinkles over the PA system after being interrupted by a call for assistance in the frozen food department as Brittany appears at the end of the aisle.
An irritated voice calls out from the end of the aisle. “What’s taking you two so—oh. You’re here.” Brittany crosses her arms over her chest, huffing out an impatient sigh when she spots you.
Luke pipes up, still attached to your leg. “We can’t find the asper-, uh, aparag, the um…”
“Asparagus,” Brittany corrects him as if the five-year-old should be able to pronounce words perfectly by this age.
“Oh,” you say, turning to exactly where you know the asparagus is. “Here you go.”
Ryan gladly takes it from you with a grin. Huh, maybe there is a Munson who shares your affinity for veggies. It certainly isn’t Luke—or Eddie, for that matter.
“You’re the best!” he says cheerfully, placing it in the cart that Brittany’s been pushing.
“Boys.” It almost sounds like she’s admonishing them for being kind to you. She looks at you with unkind eyes. “Maybe you should work here instead of for us,” she says, trying to play it off as a joke, but you can tell there’s some underlying threat.
Luke is not amused by this, his little fingers digging into your leg as he clutches onto your jeans even tighter. “No! She has to be our babysitter forever and ever!” He pouts, eyes welling up with tears at the mere mention of you leaving.
“Maybe not forever,” Ryan points out, always the practical one, “because one day we’ll be grown-ups with our own kids—”
“And then she can babysit them!” Luke declares, proud of his idea, loosening his grip on you.
Brittany shakes her head, immediately eschewing the notion. “C’mon, let’s get going,” she says tersely. “Dad’s gonna be wondering where we are.” The cruel curl of her lip serves as a painful reminder of what’s hers; more specifically, what isn’t yours.
As if on cue, Eddie meanders out from a nearby aisle, a canister of quick oats tucked under his arm. He’s wearing gray sweatpants that lay low on his hips and leave little to the imagination. Somehow on this brisk autumn day you have sweat beading along the back of your neck as you take him in.
“You’re So Vain” fades out on the speakers above, only to start playing the infectious opening notes of “Uptown Girl” by Billy Joel.
“Britt, I couldn’t find the old-fashioned kind, but will this—oh, hey,” Eddie says, stopping in his tracks to acknowledge you. “You here to make sure these gremlins don’t lock themselves in the ice cream freezer?”
Luke grins, lets go of your leg, and takes your hand proudly in his as if it was somehow all his doing that you’re here in the grocery store the same time as they are.
“Hi,” you greet before realizing you have a dopey smile on your face. “Uh, yeah. And it seems like I got here just in time. This one here almost had the lid off a rocky road before I caught him.” You shake Luke’s small hand in your own for emphasis and the boy wrinkles his nose up at you, the spitting image of his father.
Eddie chuckles and goes to respond, but his wife cuts him off.
“I guess those oats will work,” she says as she takes the canister from him—or snatches it, more like. “Come on, we didn’t even get to the dairy section yet.”
“Or,” Luke ventures, his hand gripping yours tighter in the chill air of the produce section, “we could get a cow in the backyard and get our milk that way.”
Eddie chuckles. “Hard pass, little man. We had to bring in reinforcement just to handle you and your brother.” He looks over and winks at you.
It takes all of your strength and will power not to immediately vomit right then and there at the wink. Such a simple gesture from this man has you ready to lose all control of your body.
Brittany huffs, clearly annoyed at the interaction. How dare anyone be having a conversation in her presence that doesn’t revolve around her?
“Well, we need to keep shopping.” Brittany turns on her heel, spotting a red bag of fun-size KitKats in her husband’s other hand. “And put that back. The last thing you need is more junk food.” Her eyes flit down to his stomach, which has softened with time and a steady diet of pretzels and Mountain Dew.
The tips of Eddie’s ears turn pink, and he tries to hide them behind his curls. He clears his throat, the whole time avoiding your eyes, and tosses the KitKat bag onto an empty spot of a nearby shelf. He’s clearly embarrassed, but you’re seeing red. Fury scorches you from the inside out and it’s so potent that it might just dry up some of the vegetables around you. There have been many times in the past where you’ve wanted to tell Brittany off, but this one takes the cake. The callous yet truthful words rest on the tip of your tongue, but you know it would only make the mess bigger for everyone involved. You don’t want to add any extra stress for Eddie. Brittany is the one who should be embarrassed for treating her husband that way, not Eddie. That man is drop dead gorgeous and he still would be if he inhaled a bag of those KitKats every single day.
Leave it to Luke to break the tension that he wasn’t even aware of was surrounding them all on this produce aisle. The young boy spies a can of spinach on the shelf and snatches it up, staring at it with wide eyes.
“Will this make me strong like Popeye?!”
“Sure, sweetie,” Brittany says, not paying any attention to her youngest son whatsoever.
Brittany turns and heads towards the end of the aisle, no goodbye to you, no saying where she’s going, just leaving and assuming the guys will follow behind her.
“We’ll see you tomorrow after school, right?” Ryan asks, bouncing excitedly on the balls of his feet.
“I’ll be there,” you assure him, booping the tip of his nose. He gives you a quick, strong hug around your middle.
Luke, still holding on to the can of spinach, blows you an overdramatic kiss which you pretend to almost drop into a bed of lettuce. The little boy giggles and it’s one of the best sounds you’ve ever heard.
Eddie takes a step closer to you, still feeling the sting of embarrassment, and speaks in a soft voice. “We, uh, should get going.” Eddie clears his throat. It kills you to see how Brittany zaps the life out of him. “I’ll—we’ll see you tomorrow, yeah?”
“I’ll be there,” you promise once again.
Eddie offers you a small smile before turning to his sons.
“All right, come on. Let’s catch on up to Mom.”
The boys don’t look too enthused about that, and it warms your heart that they’d rather stay here and hangout with you.
“Bye guys,” you say, waving to all three of them as they head down the aisle.
Once they’re gone you heave a heavy sigh. Being in Brittany’s presence for two minutes was exhausting enough, you have no idea how those three manage to live with her.
You try to refocus on your shopping, however impossible that might seem now. When you’re checking over the items you already have and look back up at the shelves, you spot the red KitKat bag that Eddie had wanted to buy. There’s no hesitation at all to pick it up and add it to your pile of groceries.
The Munson car isn’t hard to spot as you step out into the parking lot of the store. You see it almost every day and the gorgeous, familiar looking man loading groceries into the trunk is also a huge indicator.
Not surprisingly, Brittany is in the car while Eddie does all the work. The boys are in the backseat and from what you can make out of their silhouettes, they’re arguing with one another. They’re kids, they’d probably be more of a hindrance than help to Eddie. But Brittany could at least be doing something.
Steeling your nerves, you take a deep breath and head over to him.
“Eddie?”
His head whips around. “Hey,” he says with a small smile. “Everything okay?”
“Mhm,” you nod, summoning all of your courage and handing him the candy. “You left these on the shelf.” You try to play it off casually, but the slight tremble in your voice gives your nervousness away.
He starts to take them but pulls back. “I probably shouldn’t,” he mumbles, shoving his hand into his pocket. “Britt’s been on me to lose the ‘dad weight’ for a while.”
You shake your head, mostly to keep from opening your mouth and saying something about his wife that you’ll regret.
“I think you look good,” you say. “Um, like, you don’t need to lose any weight.” You’re perfect the way you are, you ache to tell him, but you shouldn’t. You can’t.
Eddie senses that you have words unspoken, but he doesn’t press further. “Well, um, thanks.” He takes the bag and opens it, grabbing two before giving it back to you. “Can’t get caught,” he explains with a laugh.
You grin at him, an idea already taking form. “I’ll bring one each day I babysit. Sneak it in like contraband.”
“As long as the boys don’t find it first,” Eddie chuckles, crossing his arms over his chest. “The last thing they need is more sugar.”
You agree with a laugh. “Deal.”
Eddie tucks the KitKats into his jacket pocket.
“Thank you, by the way,” he says softly.
“No problem. Just some candy,” you shrug.
He shakes his head. “No, it…” he trails off. “Just…thank you.”
You smile as he ducks into the driver’s seat, and you walk back to your own car. As you pack up the back with your groceries, you mentally calculate how long this bag of KitKats will last if you bring Eddie one every day that you work. You purse your lips as you slam the trunk closed.
“That’s not nearly long enough for my liking,” you mumble to yourself as you slip into the driver’s seat.
Once you put the key in the ignition, the car rumbles to life and the purr of the engine sounds like it’s coming from your brain as it churns out an idea.
You smile to yourself and shift your car into gear.
“Guess I’ll just have to buy some more bags of candy.”

meeting friends and family @bucktommypositivityweek
a bit of bucktommy fluff that unfolded as i wrote it
--
putting the car in park, buck checked his watch. shit, he was late. he was so late. he eyed the bags on the seat next to him and wondered if he should have bought the other two types of muffin as well. but he was so late, and today of all days, that he seriously doubted if tommy's love of cake might work in bribing his forgiveness.
but it hadn't been his fault! he couldn't just stand by when kathy went into labor right there next to the chicken nuggets! or it might have been kate, buck wasn't sure he heard her equally pregnant friend (mallory?) right the first time she'd moaned their names at him before thrusting two shopping carts containing two toddlers into buck's free hand once he'd introduced himself as a firefighter and dialed 911. then she proceeded to lean against the walgreens freezer and talk both herself and her friend through lamaze breathing, while buck clutched his phone with his shoulder and gave directions to sue blevins and at the same time tried to keep the toddler in the green bear tshirt from biting the toddler in pink, taking turns smiling encouragingly into their crying faces and the equally distressed but less snotty face of the walgreens manager.
and once he'd calmed the kids down a bit and nowak and wyatt from the 127 arrived, he couldn't just leave them to go to the hospital on their own. luckily, it didn't take very long for melanie's (?) partner to arrive, but still.
so now buck was late, by about two hours, on the evening that he and tommy had offered to babysit jee for the first time together.
remembering his own complete exhaustion after he'd spent an afternoon running around his niece that first time maddie had him watch her, buck was sure he should have bought those extra muffins.
buck didn't really know what he expected to find when he opened the door to his loft, but it definitely wasn't his niece sitting in her high chair at the kitchen island, quietly nibbling a carrot stick and staring at his boyfriend as though he was a new paw patrol character.
at a second glance, buck closed the door behind him and felt a bit like doing the same.
because tommy was holding a large piece of cucumber and two leaves of ice berg lettuce on the other side of the kitchen island and...
"...and like we said, because newton's third law of motion says that any action has an equal and opposite reaction, like when-"
"when i jump on the trampoline!" jee pulled the carrot out of her mouth to yell in excitement as tommy grinned at her in approval. buck felt a little faint.
"exactly, princess! and when the airfoil here," tommy shook the lettuce, "splits the air, the air pressure on top is smaller than on the bottom, that makes the air move faster downward and that generates lift!"
"lift!" jee yun cheered and danced in her chair, and buck had no idea whether she actually understood the lesson in beginner aviation just now, or if she just liked how tommy nodded approvingly at her as he handed her a wedge of cucumber. buck watched in disbelief as she rammed it into her mouth like a little chipmunk and grinned wide and green at his boyfriend, who couldn't possibly appreciate it for the miracle it was.
buck had been forced to pinky promise her never to include cucumbers in any of her snacks, "not even hided in yummy dip!", because they were "wet and ew".
although buck had to admit, he too would do (and had done) a lot of crazy things in order to get tommy to look and smile at him, so he couldn't blame jee yun too much for her change of heart.
he must have make some sort of a sound, because in the next instant jee was wriggling on her chair so much it was a wonder it didn't topple with her in it, and tommy was throwing his vegetable airplane model back into the salad bowl as though he'd been caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
"uncle buck! uncle buck!" jee yun yelled, interrupting his stunned staring. "this is uncle tommy!" she added when he came up to her and at her request, lifted her into his arms.
"yeah?" was the only thing buck could think to say, as he pressed a scratchy kiss against her cheek, and turned to stare some more at his gorgeous boyfriend the tips of whose ears were turning a lovely shade of pink.
"he's a pilot!" jee yun continued to cheerfully shout in his ear.
"no way!" buck gasped.
"way way!" she yelled, and then went on to explain very seriously that she shouldn't jump on the bed because she didn't have a "jet-gin" or an airfoil and so she wouldn't fly because she couldn't "genate lift". buck nodded, also very seriously, and agreed that uncle tommy was "so cool!"
"the coolest," he said as he watched tommy start to put away the groceries.
buck had a feeling that the title of the favorite uncle that he had won from albert by knowing which brand of dino chicken nuggets to buy had just been stolen but he couldn't say he minded very much.

Writing Notes: Ritual Sacrifice
Sacrifice - a religious rite in which an object is offered to a divinity in order to establish, maintain, or restore a right relationship of a human being to the sacred order. It is a complex phenomenon that has been found in the earliest known forms of worship and in all parts of the world.
A wide variety of animals have served as sacrificial offerings.
Example: In ancient Greece and India, oblations included a number of important domestic animals, such as the goat, ram, bull, ox, and horse.
In Greek religion, all edible birds, wild animals of the hunt, and fish were used.
In ancient Judaism, the kind and number of animals for the various sacrifices was carefully stipulated so that the offering might be acceptable and thus fully effective.
This sort of regulation is generally found in sacrificial cults; the offering must be appropriate either to the deity to whom or to the intention for which it is to be presented.
Very often the sacrificial species (animal or vegetable) was closely associated with the deity to whom it was offered as the deity’s symbolic representation or even its incarnation.
Thus, in the Vedic ritual the goddesses of night and morning received the milk of a black cow having a white calf;
the “bull of heaven,” Indra, was offered a bull, and
Surya, the sun god, was offered a white male goat.
Similarly, the ancient Greeks sacrificed black animals to the deities of the dark underworld;
swift horses to the sun god Helios;
pregnant sows to the earth mother Demeter; and
the dog, guardian of the dead, to Hecate, goddess of darkness.
The Syrians sacrificed fish, regarded as the lord of the sea and guardian of the realm of the dead, to the goddess Atargatis and ate the consecrated offering in a communion meal with the deity, sharing in the divine power.
An especially prominent sacrificial animal was the bull (or its counterparts, the boar and the ram), which, as the representation and embodiment of the cosmic powers of fertility, was sacrificed to numerous fertility gods (e.g., the Norse god Freyr; the Greek “bull of the earth,” Zeus Chthonios; and the Indian “bull of heaven,” Indra).
The occurrence of human sacrifice appears to have been widespread and its intentions various, ranging from communion with a god and participation in his divine life to expiation and the promotion of the earth’s fertility.
It seems to have been adopted by agricultural rather than by hunting or pastoral peoples.
Of all the worldly manifestations of the life-force, the human undoubtedly impressed men as the most valuable and thus the most potent and efficacious as an oblation.
Example: In Mexico, the belief that the sun needed human nourishment led to sacrifices in which as many as 20,000 victims perished annually in the Aztec and Nahua calendrical maize ritual in the 14th century CE.
Bloodless human sacrifices also developed and assumed greatly different forms:
a Celtic ritual involved the sacrifice of a woman by immersion, and
among the Maya in Mexico young maidens were drowned in sacred wells;
in Peru women were strangled;
in ancient China the king’s retinue was commonly buried with him, and such internments continued intermittently until the 17th century.
Bloodless Offerings. Among the many life-giving substances that have been used as libations are:
milk,
honey,
vegetable and animal oils,
beer,
wine, and
water.
Of these, the last two have been especially prominent.
Wine is the “blood of the grape” and thus the “blood of the earth,” a spiritual beverage that invigorates gods and men.
Water is always the sacred “water of life,” the primordial source of existence and the bearer of the life of plants, animals, human beings, and even the gods.
Because of its great potency, water, like blood, has been widely used in purificatory and expiatory rites to wash away defilements and restore spiritual life. It has also, along with wine, been an important offering to the dead as a revivifying force.
Divine Offerings. One further conception must be briefly mentioned:
a god himself may be sacrificed.
This notion was elaborated in many mythologies; it is fundamental in some sacrificial rituals.
In early sacrifice, the victim has something of the god in itself, but in the sacrifice of a god, the victim is identified with the god.
Examples:
At the festival of the ancient Mexican sun god Huitzilopochtli, the statue of the god, which was made from beetroot paste and kneaded in human blood and which was identified with the god, was divided into pieces, shared out among the devotees, and eaten.
In the Hindu soma ritual (related to the haoma ritual of ancient Persia), the soma plant, which is identified with the god Soma, is pressed for its intoxicating juice, which is then ritually consumed.
The Eucharist, as understood in many of the Christian churches, contains similar elements. In short, Jesus is really present in the bread and wine that are ritually offered and then consumed. According to the traditional eucharistic doctrine of Roman Catholicism, the elements of bread and wine are “transubstantiated” into the body and blood of Christ; i.e., their whole substance is converted into the whole substance of the body and blood, although the outward appearances of the elements, their “accidents,” remain.
Sir James George Frazer, a British anthropologist and folklorist, author of The Golden Bough, saw sacrifice as originating from magical practices in which the ritual slaying of a god was performed as a means of rejuvenating the god.
The king or chief of a tribe was held to be sacred because he possessed mana, or sacred power, which assured the tribe’s well-being. When he became old and weak, his mana weakened, and the tribe was in danger of decline.
The king was thus slain and replaced with a vigorous successor.
In this way the god was slain to save him from decay and to facilitate his rejuvenation.
The old god appeared to carry away with him various weaknesses and fulfilled the role of an expiatory victim and scapegoat.
Henri Hubert and Marcel Mauss, French sociologists, concentrated their investigations on Hindu and Hebrew sacrifice, arriving at the conclusion that:
“sacrifice is a religious act which, through the consecration of a victim, modifies the condition of the moral person who accomplishes it or that of certain objects with which he is concerned.”
Like Smith, they believed that a sacrifice establishes a relationship between the realms of the sacred and the profane.
This occurs through the mediation of the ritually slain victim, which acts as a buffer between the two realms, and through participation in a sacred meal.
The rituals chosen by Hubert and Mauss for analysis, however, are not those of preliterate societies.
Another study by Mauss helped to broaden the notion of sacrifice as gift.
It was an old idea that man makes a gift to the god but expects a gift in return.
The Latin formula do ut des (“I give that you may give”) was formulated in Classical times.
In the Vedic religion, the oldest stratum of religion known to have existed in India, one of the Brahmanas (commentaries on the Vedas, or sacred hymns, that were used in ritual sacrifices) expressed the same principle: “Here is the butter; where are your gifts?”
But, according to Mauss, in giving it is not merely an object that is passed on but a part of the giver, so that a firm bond is forged.
The owner’s mana is conveyed to the object, and, when the object is given away, the new owner shares in this mana and is in the power of the giver.
The gift thus creates a bond.
Even more, however, it makes power flow both ways to connect the giver and the receiver; it invites a gift in return.
German anthropologists have emphasized the idea of culture history, in which the entire history of mankind is seen as a system of coherent and articulated phases and strata, with certain cultural phenomena appearing at specific levels of culture.
Leo Frobenius, the originator of the theory that later became known as the Kulturkreislehre, distinguished the creative or expressive phase of a culture, in which a new insight assumes its specific form, and the phase of application, in which the original significance of the new insight degenerates.
Working within this context, Adolf E. Jensen attempted to explain why men have resorted to the incomprehensible act of killing other men or animals and eating them for the glorification of a god or many gods.
Blood Sacrifice is linked not with the cultures of the hunter–gatherers but with those of the cultivators; its origin is in the ritual killing of the archaic cultivator cultures, which, in turn, is grounded in myth.
For Jensen, the early cultivators all knew the idea of a mythic primal past in which not men but Dema lived on the earth and prominent among them were the Dema-deities. The central element of the myth is the slaying of a Dema-deity, an event that inaugurated human history and gave shape to the human lot.
The Dema became men, subject to birth and death, whose self-preservation depends upon the destruction of life.
The deity became in some way associated with the realm of the dead, and, from the body of the slain deity, crop plants originated, so that the eating of the plants is an eating of the deity.
Ritual Killing, whether of animals or men, is a cultic reenactment of the mythological event.
Strictly speaking, the action is not a sacrifice because there is no offering to a god; rather, it is a way to keep alive the memory of primeval events.
Blood sacrifice as found in the later higher cultures is a persistence of the ritual killing in a degenerated form.
Because the victim is identified with the deity, later expiatory sacrifices also become intelligible: sin is an offense against the moral order established at the beginning of human history; the killing of the victim is an intensified act restoring that order.
Another interpretation of some historical interest is that of Sigmund Freud in his work Totem und Tabu (1913; Eng. trans. Totem and Taboo).
Freud’s theory was based on the assumption that the Oedipus complex is innate and universal: It is normal for a child to wish to have a sexual relationship with its mother and to will the death of its father; this is often achieved symbolically.
In the primal horde, although the sons did slay their father, they never consummated a sexual union with their mother; in fact, they set up specific taboos against such sexual relations.
According to Freud, the ritual slaughter of an animal was instituted to reenact the primeval act of parricide.
The rite, however, reflected an ambivalent attitude.
After the primal father had been slain, the sons felt some remorse for their act, and, thus, the sacrificial ritual expressed the desire not only for the death of the father but also for reconciliation and communion with him through the substitute victim.
Freud claimed that his reconstruction of the rise of sacrifice was historical, but this hardly seems probable.
Sacrificer. In general, it may be said that the one who makes sacrifices is man, either an individual or a collective group—a family, a clan, a tribe, a nation, a secret society.
Frequently, special acts must be performed by the sacrificer before and sometimes also after the sacrifice.
In the Vedic cult, the sacrificer and his wife were required to undergo an initiation (diksha) involving:
ritual bathing,
seclusion,
fasting, and
prayer,
the purpose of which was to remove them from the profane world and to purify them for contact with the sacred world.
At the termination of the sacrifice came a rite of “desacralization” (avabhrita) in which they bathed in order to remove any sacred potencies that might have attached themselves during the sacrifice.
There are sacrifices in which there are no participants other than the individual or collective sacrificer.
Usually, however, one does not venture to approach sacred things directly and alone; they are too lofty and serious a matter.
An intermediary—certain persons or groups who fulfill particular requirements or qualifications—is necessary.
In many cases, sacrificing by unauthorized persons is expressly forbidden and may be severely punished:
Example: In the book of Leviticus, Korah and his followers, who revolted against Moses and his brother Aaron and arrogated the priestly office of offering incense, were consumed by fire.
The qualified person—whether the head of a household, the old man of a tribe, the king, or the priest—acts as the appointed representative on behalf of a community.
Serious illness, drought, pestilence, epidemic, famine, and other misfortune and calamity have universally been regarded as the workings of supernatural forces.
Often they have been understood as the effects of offenses against the sacred order committed by individuals or communities, deliberately or unintentionally.
Such offenses break the relationship with the sacred order or impede the flow of divine life.
Thus, it has been considered necessary in times of crisis, individual or communal, to offer sacrifices to propitiate sacred powers and to wipe out offenses (or at least neutralize their effects) and restore the relationship.
Example: Among the Yoruba of West Africa, blood sacrifice must be made to the gods, especially the earth deities, who, as elsewhere in Africa, are regarded as the divine punishers of sin.
For the individual, the oblation may be a fowl or a goat;
for an entire community, it may be hundreds of animals (in former days, the principal oblation was human).
Once consecrated and ritually slain, the oblations are buried, burnt, or left exposed but never shared by the sacrificer.
There are sacrifices in which the victim does serve as a substitute for the guilty.
In some West African cults a person believed to be under death penalty by the gods offers an animal substitute to which he transfers his sins.
The animal, which is then ritually killed, is buried with complete funeral rites as though it were the human person.
Thus the guilty person is dead, and it is an innocent man who is free to begin a new life.
Fertility. Another distinctive feature of the first-fruits offering is that it serves to replenish the sacred potencies of the earth depleted by the harvest and to ensure thereby the continued regeneration of the crop.
Thus, it is one of many sacrificial rites that have as their intention the seasonal renewal and reactivation of the fertility of the earth.
Fertility rites usually involve some form of blood sacrifice—in former days especially human sacrifice.
In some human sacrifices, the victim represented a deity who “in the beginning” allowed himself to be killed so that from his body edible vegetation might grow.
The ritual slaying of the human victim amounted to a repetition of the primordial act of creation and thus a renewal of vegetational life.
In other human sacrifices the victim was regarded as representing a vegetation spirit that annually died at harvest time so that it might be reborn in a new crop.
In still other sacrifices at planting time or in time of famine, the blood of the victim—animal or human—was let upon the ground and its flesh buried in the soil to fertilize the earth and recharge its potencies.
Building Sacrifices. Numerous instances are known of animal and human sacrifices made in the course of:
the construction of houses, shrines, and other buildings, and
in the laying out of villages and towns.
Their purpose has been to consecrate the ground by establishing the beneficent presence of the sacred order and by repelling or rendering harmless the demonical powers of the place. Example:
In some West African cults, before the central pole of a shrine or a house is installed, an animal is ritually slain, its blood being poured around the foundations and its body being put into the posthole.
On the one hand, this sacrifice is made to the earth deities and the supernatural powers of the place—the real owners—so that the human owner may take possession and be ensured against malevolent interferences with the construction of the building and its later occupation and use.
On the other hand, the sacrifice is offered to the cult deity to establish its benevolent presence in the building.
The organization of sacrificial rites in the different cultures and religions has undoubtedly been influenced by a number of factors.
Example. Economic considerations certainly have had some impact upon primitive peoples in the:
selection of the victim and
the time of sacrifice and
in the determination of whether the victim is consumed or totally destroyed and
whether the sacrificer is an individual or a collective group.
The importance of such factors is an aspect of sacrifice that deserves increased investigation.
Nevertheless, sacrifice is not a phenomenon that can be reduced to rational terms; it is fundamentally a religious act that has been of profound significance to individuals and social groups throughout history, a symbolic act that establishes a relationship between man and the sacred order.
For many peoples of the world, throughout time, sacrifice has been the very heart of their religious life.
Accusations of human sacrifice in ancient and modern times have been far more widespread than the ritual practice ever was.
The ancient Greeks told many myths that involved human sacrifice, which has led some researchers to posit that rites among the Greeks and Romans which involved the killing of animals may have originally involved human victims.
At the end of the 20th century, however, archaeological evidence did not support this claim.
Some early Christians were falsely accused of cannibalism, consuming sacrificial victims at nocturnal feasts, a misunderstanding probably due to the secrecy surrounding the Eucharistic rite and the use of the words body and blood.
From the Middle Ages until quite recently, Jews were often maliciously accused of having sacrificed Christian children at Passover, an accusation which has been termed the blood libel.

Words: 6,623 Pairing: Daryl Dixon x Reader Era: The Whisperers Reader pronouns: she/her Warnings: language, discussions of past trauma (nothing super graphic), discussions of violence, allusions to child abuse (Alpha to Lydia), alcohol A/N: You can find the other parts to this series on my Master List! Check out my pinned post. Previous part here!
Daryl had to ram his shoulder into the door of the little cabin a couple times before it gave way, ripping off part of the doorframe in a shower of splinters. He thought you shot him a bit of a look afterward but he couldn’t be entirely sure what your intention with it was or what it was even about. After all, you weren’t happy that he’d, umm, tagged along. He signaled for Dog to enter first and he followed after with his crossbow at the ready, but the interior of the small cabin was completely quiet.
Inside, the rooms seemed to still be stocked with almost everything someone would need to actually live there. The furniture was shrouded under sheets to keep off the dust and most of the windows had been reinforced or boarded up, although their glass was smudged and dusty and a few panes were now cracked or broken out from wayward branches or hailstones. Daryl drifted back to the front door to call you inside. He found you staring at the building with a queer expression on your face, almost a haunted look. Your arm was draped across your body to press your hand to your side right over the bandage that hid Alpha’s knife wound.
“Hey,” he said gently, snapping you out of whatever had been going on inside your head. “S’clear. C’mon.”
You nodded and whistled to Achilles, who burst out of a tree above and landed on your shoulder. The noise of his wings as he fluttered down was reminiscent of wind through leaves. You climbed up the steps and across the small wooden porch to follow Daryl in. As soon as you could, you relieved your body of the burden of your pack and quiver, setting your bow beside them as well. You started pulling the dusty coverings off the furniture and clouds of speckles drifted in what little late afternoon light could still filter through the gray panes. You moved around in a way that suggested to Daryl that you knew this place well; uncovering this but not that, running your fingers along the oak mantle over the fireplace. He drifted after you as you went into the kitchen and he watched as you thumbed open the pantry. Inside were rows and rows of dusty canned vegetables, clearly homegrown and preserved.
You seemed to have felt his eyes on you and looked over before quickly shutting the cabinet again. You squeezed past him where he was standing in the doorway, nearly brushing your body against his, and stepped back into the main room. Daryl’s heart seemed to have jumped into his throat for a moment, inexplicably. He tried to gulp it back down where it belonged.
“What is this place?” he asked you. Dog had already settled down on the rug in front of the hearth like it was an old home he’d warmed his fur in many times. But Dog had a way of making himself at home that Daryl envied.
You paused, halfway through tugging a sheet off an armchair by the fire. “A cabin,” you said, looking at him with a tinge of annoyance.
Daryl sighed and frowned at you. “Ya know that ain’t what I meant. And that ain’t just it.”
You stayed frozen there for a long moment before you finished tugging the sheet off the chair and then glanced back at him, your expression distant. “It’s just—someplace I stayed once… a long time ago,” you said vaguely.
Daryl chewed on his bottom lip and nodded. “Alrigh’,” he drawled, but you could tell he knew it was more than just that. “I’ll take the couch,” he said, tossing his pack down.
“Obviously,” you retorted. “There’s only one bed and only one of us has a stab wound.” He was surprised to hear some note of jest in your voice and he looked up to catch just the momentary wink of a smile at the corners of your mouth. “You’re far too noble to make me sleep on the couch. You barely let me walk out of that community today.”
Daryl huffed a little and sat down on the couch, his mouth tightening into a thin line for a moment. “If I’d had my way—ya wouldn’t have. Ya’d still be in that clinic with Enid watchin’ ya.”
“And probably you too,” you retorted. “Yeah, I know. I’m well aware… and now I have a tail to shake off,” you retorted, easing yourself down into the armchair you had just uncovered. Your cautious movement wasn’t lost on Daryl. Your body ached and panged. You let out a heavy sigh as you sunk into the cushions.
“Good luck. Dog can track. And so can I.”
You smiled at him, a small one that seemed almost knowing. Daryl’s brow flinched down for a brief moment. On your shoulder, Achilles let out a happy sound and his large bill began to pick through and nibble your hair as if he was preening you. Your eyes crinkled in a smile as your head tilted toward the glossy black bird. You reached up and stroked the feathers on his breast and he let out a sound that was almost like a purr. You whispered something to him that Daryl couldn’t quite hear.
“How’d ya end up with him?” Daryl asked, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees as he sat forward on the edge of the couch, his attention intense.
Your eyes met his and they were tired, but soft. “Probably the same way you ended up with Dog. He came to me,” you said. Achilles climbed down your shoulder and perched beside you on the arm of the chair. He let out a harsh click click click and looked inquisitively at Dog as he lifted his head and stared back at the bird, his head tilting and his ears at attention.
Daryl nodded. “Dog wandered up to me when he was just a pup. He started comin’ round and hangin’ at my camp,” he said. He ducked your eyes and you could tell he was holding some piece of the story back, but you didn’t begrudge it.
“Your camp?” you asked.
“Mhm,” Daryl hummed, staring down at his hands and fiddling with a rough spot on the back of his thumb. “Ain’t like I’ve always lived inside walls. Lived way more outside of ‘em. Even before the world went to shit.”
“Mm,” you acknowledged, studying his features; his wavy hair, the sharpness of his cheekbones and jawline, the scar running above and below his left eye. You stroked Achilles’ head feathers as he bent toward you in a bow, asking for attention. “Achilles was an orphan. Fell or pushed from his nest when he was far too small. Ravens are usually cared for by both parents, so I can only assume that one or both of them were lost in a storm or to predators… I’m not sure. But he was just this tiny, helpless thing. I hand fed him and kept him warm, safe. Taught him to use his wings when he was big enough. Ravens are incredibly smart. He did the rest pretty much.”
“And now he lets ya use his feathers as a thank you?” Daryl asked, mainly joking.
You caught the jest in his tone but answered more seriously. “We’re bonded. To him, it’s like the bond he’d have with a mate or family member. Ravens are highly social. As for the feathers, it’s just that black feathers are the strongest and the most resistant to wear. A convenient fact,” you said. “And he’s kind enough to share.”
“S’that true?” Daryl asked curiously.
You met his blue eyes and a strange sensation ran through you when yours connected with his. You couldn’t quite name it, but it was… almost destabilizing. You sat with it for a moment before you answered. “Yes. That’s why many white birds, like seabirds, will have black edges to the feathers on their wings and tails. The dark pigment, melanin just like in people, actually strengthens the feather structures. It’s why they work so well for fletching.” You returned to stroking Achilles’ back, watching the shine shifting in his dark feathers as he moved.
“Hmm,” Daryl hummed, nodding. “He got anymore tricks I should know about? Besides yankin’ out my hair on command?”
You allowed yourself a small amused exhale and Daryl liked how the corners of your mouth turned up subtly and stayed there. He thought it was maybe the first actual smile he’d seen on you since he’d looked up at you in that damn tree as you told him to forget about you.
“He can talk, mimic sounds he hears. But he’s not a parrot. He won’t do it on command. Ravens are—” you paused thoughtfully, searching for the right word. “—suspicious. He’s not comfortable around new people or even new objects sometimes… Everything must be thoroughly vetted,” you explained. “If he does talk around someone, it means he’s comfortable. That he’s accepted them. They’re very wary.”
Kinda like you, Daryl thought. But he didn’t speak it. He nodded and glanced at Dog who had gone back to snoozing. “Hungry?” he asked you, climbing to his feet.
“Not really.”
“Well, too bad. ‘Cause ya gotta eat somethin’. Need to get your strength back up. Ya’ve got a lot of healin’ to do.” He started toward the kitchen and your eyes followed him across the room and through the doorway.
“You’re gonna cook?” you called after him. Achilles took off from his place on the arm of the chair and soared over to a large armoire and perched on the top.
He appeared in the doorway again and the expression on his face nearly made you laugh. “What? Ya think I can’t cook?” You shrugged and now did laugh a little. “Alrigh’, I may not be no damn chef but I can cook. I mean, it’ll at least be edible.”
“Well, that generally is the most important quality in food—that it’s edible,” you said, pushing yourself up to stand, wrapping an arm around your midsection again and pausing as some pain shot through you.
“Would ya just sit down and—”
“You aren’t exactly inspiring confidence in me about your kitchen skills,” you argued.
“Nah,” he scolded you, shaking his head. “Sit yer ass down. Now ‘m gonna really have to figure somethin’ out in here,” he drawled. “Ya should be restin’ and I dun want ya breathin’ down my damn neck while ‘m workin’ out here.”
“Breathing down your neck?” you laughed. “Christ, I wasn’t planning on that.”
“Well, I dun want ya—supervisin’ or starin’ or judgin’ me anyhow, so sit back down,” he scolded you again.
You considered him for a long moment but being on your feet again reminded you of how tired you were. “Fine. I’ll just get a fire going and then I’ll sit out here with Dog. Just try not to burn the place down or waste my ingredients, would you?”
Daryl rolled his eyes but disappeared back into the kitchen. You soon heard the clanking of pots and pans and the slamming of cabinet doors. You glanced up at the armoire to see that Achilles had made himself comfortable and tucked his head under his wing for a nap.
“Hey—anywhere to get water ‘round here?” he called out from the kitchen.
“There’s a covered well out back—least… there was when I was last here. But you should probably boil the water just in case,” you said.
You heard the back door being unlocked and tugged open. Dog lifted his head from his paws to look toward the kitchen, apparently concerned about his master leaving.
“He’ll be back,” you told the Malinois. You walked over to the hearth and Dog’s eyes followed you. You sank down to sit on the hearth, wincing at the pain running through your torso. “Fuck,” you murmured, wrapping you hand around your middle again.
Dog tilted his head and whined lightly, looking at you with bright, inquisitive eyes.
“Oh, hush. I’m fine. I don’t need you worrying about me too,” you told him, straightening and turning your attention back to the fireplace. You leaned in and opened the flue, wiping the dark smudges of soot that transferred to your hand on your pants. The basket beside the hearth still had faded newspapers, tinder and kindling piled in it and there was a large stack of dry wood beside it too, now shrouded in cobwebs and coated in dust. But you reflected on the fact that it really looked like no one had been here since you’d left… and that had been years ago.
As you busied yourself with getting a fire started, you heard Daryl enter the kitchen and get back to whatever he was doing in there. You soon had a happy blaze crackling away and it cheered and soothed you instantly, casting the previously gloomy and neglected interior in a warm glow.
Dog had already settled his head back down on his paws, but as the flames licked around the logs, he shifted more closely to it and it drew an appreciative chuckle from you. You slipped off the stone ledge of the hearth and knelt beside him on the floor. “Feels good, doesn’t it?” Dog let out a content sigh and closed his eyes, the fire warming his back. You sunk your fingers into his soft fur and he quickly exposed his chest and belly for scratches, which you provided with a smile. In no time, Dog was snoozing on his side again and you propped your back against the stone ledge of the fireplace. It warmed your back and shoulders. It felt good. It helped your focus on something besides the pain in your body from your fight with Alpha. Your fingers ran through Dog’s thick fur absently, almost meditatively, and you let your mind drift for the first time since you’d left The Hilltop.
Daryl appeared in the doorway and looked in, surprised to see you nearly cuddled up with Dog on the floor. You must have felt him looking at you because you glanced up, and it was like a lightning bolt shot through him at the exact moment your eyes met his. His heart jumped in his chest and he found himself inexplicably nervous. “Dog’s won ya over, huh?” he drawled. “I might have to ask him for some tips.”
“Not anything you could emulate,” you joked.
“Nothin’?”
“He’s not a person. I tend to prefer most animals to people.”
Daryl smiled briefly. “Yeah. I think tha’s fair.” He ran a hand nervously over the back of his neck. “Well—food s’almost done. Can’t say whether it’s any good or not—”
“It smells good,” you remarked. “Even if I don’t feel much like eating.” You started to try to climb to your feet, grimacing and struggling to even get your feet under you at all, let alone stand up. Daryl hesitated for a split second before rushing over.
“Uhh—can I—can I please help ya up before ya rip a damn stitch?” he asked.
You struggled for one more second, but sore and exhausted, you relented and gave him a hesitant nod. He extended his hands and you delayed a moment longer, looking unsure, before placing yours in his. He gently pulled you to your feet and for some strange reason the two of you were frozen for a moment. The time had passed when he should have let go and you both felt it. Your breath seemed caught in your throat until he finally slipped his hands softly away from yours, tingles left behind like the ghosts of his touch, and he cleared his throat. “I’ll just go check on the—the food. Ya should go sit down,” he drawled, and he made a hasty exit for the kitchen.
Ten more minutes passed and Daryl came out with two steaming bowls. Funny enough, both Dog and Achilles perked up as he handed one to you where you had sunk into the armchair again. “S’just—some dried beans and bunch of those canned veggies ya had in there. Tomatoes, onions, garlic, uhh… peppers, I think? Careful. Bowl is hot.”
“Thank you,” you murmured, accepting it by the top edge of the bowl. Your fingertips brushed the back of his hand and Daryl swore there was a static charge, though you didn’t seem to react as if you’d been shocked. Achilles stretched and then fluttered over to perch on the back of your chair, letting out a squawk and interested trill as he peered over your shoulder at what was in your bowl, tilting his glossy black head this way and that. Dog trotted over to beg at Daryl’s side and while he watched Daryl eat, a string of drool grew in length until it touched Daryl’s knee and pooled a bit on his black pants.
He let out a disgusted noise. “Agh… Dog! Dammit, get back!”
You couldn’t help chuckling a little as you scraped at the last of your meal.
Daryl looked up in surprise. “What? Yer laughin’?”
You glanced up still smiling and shrugged a little. “Maybe,” you said, unable to hide another chuckle at his expense.
“Yeah, real nice. After I cooked ya this five-star meal,” he joked.
“It was actually pretty good,” you admitted. “Maybe I was hungry after all.”
“Ya should be,” he murmured, chewing his last bite and wiping at his mouth with his sleeve. “Ya ain’t had anything in how many days?” He stood and came to collect your bowl.
“No—I’ll deal with the dishes,” you argued. “You cooked.”
“Nah—look at ya,” he growled, taking your bowl. “Ya can barely stand up. And ya sure as shit ain’t haulin’ more water like that. Just lemme do this.”
You watched his broad shoulders retreat toward the kitchen. “I can stand you know! We walked how many miles today?”
His voice rang out from the kitchen again. “Exactly. Ya did yer standin’ and walkin’. More than ya shoulda. Ya should’ve been in bed all damn day!”
You rolled your eyes but got to your feet anyway and threw a couple more logs onto the fire, blowing on the coals to get them to catch. Dog came back to the rug in front of the hearth and circled a few times before laying down. You wandered over to a painting hanging over a long, low bookshelf. It depicted an early morning landscape shrouded in fog. The grass was luminescent with dew and you could practically taste the verdant smell of the meadow as you looked at it. But you lifted a hand and nudged it aside. It swung on the wire hanging over the nail and revealed a little nook behind it.
Daryl was walking back out of the kitchen and froze at the threshold. “What’re ya doin’?” he asked, his brow furrowed. He watched curiously as you withdrew a glass bottle and then replaced the painting. You straightened it carefully before you looked over at him.
You held it up so the light from the fire cascaded through the deep amber liquid inside.
He frowned. “Uhh… should ya be drinkin’ in yer condition?”
This drew another dry laugh from you. “I’m not pregnant. I have a knife wound. And… some other bruises. It’s fine.”
His brow furrowed. “Dun ya have a concussion?”
“It’ll be fine. Look—I need something to take the edge off, alright?”
“Yeah, ya should’ve stayed in the clinic,” he said for what felt like the fiftieth time that day. “Enid woulda had pain meds for ya.”
“Well, I didn’t,” you replied. “Am I drinking alone or what?”
He fixed a long stare on you and then sighed, giving in.
“Great. Get some cups from the kitchen, would you?”
He returned with two mugs and handed you one. You poured in a healthy share of whiskey and then held the bottle up to offer him some. He held his mug out. “Not sure I should be encouraging this…”
“Come on. After all the trauma I just went through you can’t let me drink alone,” you joked wryly.
He shook his head at you but took his glass over to the couch and sat down, planting his boots up on the coffee table and taking an exploratory sip. “Mmm. S’pretty damn good whiskey.”
“Yep. Medicinal grade,” you said, gulping down a good amount. You were hoping it would ease not only the pain in your body, but quiet your anxious thoughts a little too. A slightly fuzzy head sounded good at the moment. Either way, a nightcap hit the spot after the decent meal and with the fire crackling in the fireplace… You could almost forget outside was a hellish nightmare of death and violence. Almost. You never could completely forget.
“Pretty nice place ya got here. And pretty well stocked,” Daryl said, interrupting your train of thought.
“Who says it’s my place?” your retorted.
“You did.”
“No. I just said I stayed here once.”
Daryl gave you a knowing look. “Alrigh’. Maybe ya didn’t say exactly, but ya know where the damn hidden booze stash is… And I could tell even before that. Ya moved around in here like ya knew it. But… ya left so many things behind, especially all that food in the kitchen. Ain’t exactly like ya can walk down to the grocery store and pick up what ya need anywhere.”
You ducked his gaze and ran a finger over the curving handle of the mug in your hand. You raised it to your lips and took another big sip. The burn down your throat and into your stomach felt good.
“Ya have to leave here in a hurry?” he asked. You didn’t answer, but Daryl didn’t seem to need you to and he wasn’t deterred. If you had looked up, you would have seen his blue eyes narrowed perceptively, flickering over your features. “Ya left it all here on purpose. As a… like a safehouse,” he said, nodding. He didn’t ask it as a question. “As a ‘just in case’,” he finished. “Yeah. Ya seem to live your whole life with a ‘just in case’.”
You looked up at him, your brow slightly furrowed. “What does that mean?” you asked, an edge to your tone.
He shrugged. “Nothin’. Sorry. I dun mean anythin’ bad by it. Prob’ly just means—ya didn’t have a ‘just in case’ sometime when ya needed it. And ya ain’t ‘bout to make that mistake twice.”
You gulped, feeling how exquisitely close to the mark he was deep in your midsection as a tense knot materializing somewhere behind your navel. You downed the last of your whiskey and eyed the bottle again.
“Must be a lot for ya to have me here, lettin’ somebody else know ‘bout it. Thanks for trustin’ me that much.” You did. You didn’t know why, but you did. You couldn’t even remember the last time you’d trusted some—wait. Yes, you could. “Ya won’t tell me a thing more about ya? About what’s happened to ya?” he asked. “Bout the trees? Bein’ up there?” His voice was gentle and patient. Your eyes flickered back over to where he was sitting reclined on the couch, his hands absently twirling his mug.
“Why do you want to know my story?” you asked in a low voice.
He shrugged. “‘M just—tryin’ to understand ya,” he drawled.
Your brow furrowed. “But why?” you asked softly. “Why does it matter?”
Daryl fiddled with his now empty mug and shrugged again. “It just does. To me. Ya saved my life and I can’t shake the feeling that yer in somethin’ with these Whisperers, Shepherds as ya call ‘em. And if ya are, I want ya to know that ya dun gotta do it alone. My place, the communities ‘m tied to, they’re full of good people. People who’d help ya. People who did help ya.”
“And this has nothing to do with the fact that I recognized Lydia and know about The Shepherds? All these questions,” you said.
“No. But I ain’t gonna lie and say I don’t wish ya’d just tell me what ya know.”
You grabbed the bottle and poured in a generous amount of whiskey again. You leaned forward, ignoring how it sent a sharp pain through your stomach, and set the bottle in front of him on the coffee table. You considered him for a long moment. You thought about his people who had saved you, about the place they’d brought you to. It had seemed wholly good. He seemed wholly good. Your gut was telling you, over and over, that you could trust him. It had told you that since the night he’d ended up at your tree in the storm. But you’d been wrong before and you had to consider this all carefully. What harm could come from opening up, just a little bit, to this one person? Logically, you didn’t think much, but it still felt… scary. You took a small sip of whiskey and let it sit on your tongue a moment, the smokiness of the oak. “I can’t really tell you one without the other, I suppose.”
“What d’ya mean?”
“About them and about me, at least some of it. In some—sick way, we’re connected.” You froze for a moment, truly wondering where to start. Daryl leaned forward and poured another share of whiskey into his glass before sitting on the edge of the couch, leaned forward, ready to listen intently. “I know a lot about The Shepherds,” you said. “More than probably anyone alive who isn’t one of them.” You gulped and tried to suppress the flashbacks that were threatening to surge forward. Your hand shook as you raised your mug to your lips again and took a big drink. “Alpha is not someone you want to fuck with lightly. She’s ruthless, even to her own people. The things I’ve seen her do—” You broke off and shook your head, shutting your eyes for a moment as you tried to retain your composure. You licked your lips and went on. “Look, without going into my whole backstory since the world went to shit—I was part of a community once. One that was probably a lot like yours. All of a sudden, Alpha comes out of nowhere and starts telling us that we’re trespassing on her lands when we’re hunting the same areas we’d been hunting for years. She threatened us with consequences if we didn’t pay attention to her borders. But the reality was that we had hungry people, hungry kids to feed. It was winter and game was already scarce. Supplies were tight. I wasn’t going to wait around listening to the leaders sitting on their asses talking while kids starved. I went out and hunted like I felt I had a right to. The way I had been…” You felt as if a concrete block had just materialized on your chest. It was built of residual anger and grief and guilt and blame… “‘Fuck her borders,’ I thought.” You averted your eyes to stare down into your mug, swirling the whiskey inside and chewing on your bottom lip. Daryl swore he could see the color draining from your face. “One of them saw me. Of course they did… we didn’t know they wore the dead’s faces then... But I figured it out real quick when what I thought was a walker started attacking me with a knife. That one and two more ended up dead.” You sighed and your head fell back against the chair. Achilles, still perched on the back, picked at your hair and let out a soft rasp. “If they’d managed to kill me, that might’ve just been the end of it,” you thought aloud. “Probably not. But maybe.”
Daryl gulped. He had a bad feeling about where this was going. “What happened after that?”
You let out a dry laugh and blinked away the moisture burning in your eyes. “Alpha went back to my community, where the leaders themselves were enjoying the venison and rabbit and quail I had shot, and offered them a deal. But she didn’t come alone this time. She brought a horde with her, and delivered a note into their hands. A final warning. If no one else crossed her borders again, she would leave the community alone. But there was a caveat. She wanted me in exchange,” you said.
“Dun tell me they—” but Daryl broke off, reading the answer on your face. He couldn’t even begin to contemplate that level of betrayal.
“They did. More than that, they did it right proper, with a vote. Yay, democracy,” you said wryly. “They traded me for their safety. Turns out one of the ones I killed was Alpha’s number two. Beta. Not the same Beta she has now, obviously. A different one. And she was pissed. She was pissed that I’d killed them, but more than that she was pissed that I had defied her, ignored her. If there’s one thing Alpha hates, it’s people who aren’t intimidated by her. She wants people scared, even her own. It makes her feel… powerful.”
Daryl stared down into his mug and then downed the whole thing. “I’ve known—plenty of people like that.”
You nodded. “Yeah. They seem to do well these days.”
“So, what? They took ya prisoner? And your community just went on livin’?” The rage in his chest was starting to boil over.
“Not exactly.”
Daryl’s brow was low over his blue eyes, casting them in shadow. “So, what happened?”
“I was taken to Alpha’s camp as a prisoner,” you said, resting your hand over the knife wound again, which seemed to pulse and burn as you talked about the one who’d given it to you. “I think I’ll—I’ll gloss over the finer points of that experience…” Your voice went soft and trailed away.
He ducked his head. Though across the room, he could feel the waves of pain and suffering radiating off you. He cleared his throat finally so you’d look up at him again. “Look, ‘m sorry. Ya dun gotta tell me any more of this if—if it’s too—”
“We already started,” you said, straightening up again. “Might as well finish.”
He nodded. “Where’d Lydia come in?” Daryl asked.
Your expression unstiffened, became less stony. “She was really just a kid then. Little. I saw Alpha beat the shit out of her countless times for screwing up, which was really just being a kid with normal needs. Sometimes, at night when she couldn’t sleep which was often, Lydia would come and talk to me. She’d ask me questions about the old world or about where I came from. Bring me whatever little bit of food or water she could. There was a—a kindness in her that her mother couldn’t kill. But it didn’t stop her from trying. Eventually, Lydia saw that they were going to kill me. I was going to die. Whether it would be from exposure, or hunger, or sickness, or the fighting, or whether Alpha just decided ‘today is the day’… neither of us knew, but I was going to die there.”
Daryl drew in a sharp breath as he realized. “She let ya go. Lydia.”
You nodded. “Yeah. And I tried to take her with me, to convince her that she didn’t deserve everything her mother—” you broke off and shook your head. “She wouldn’t. She was young. She was afraid. She almost didn’t remember any other kind of life…” Daryl watched you wince at the thought of leaving her behind.
“S’not yer fault,” he said. You looked up at him quickly, vague surprise on your face. “Ya tried. Ya can’t help people if they ain’t ready for it.”
You let out a wry laugh. “That sounds familiar… considering recent events,” you joked, giving him a semi-sheepish look.
“So, what happened after ya escaped?”
“I… went back. After what I’d seen out there, I had to try and warn them. Even if they’d traded me like a fucking sack of corn, I had to tell them. They betrayed me, maybe as good as killed me in some ways, but there were plenty of people in there who didn’t deserve what would come from The Shepherds, from Alpha. They were scared…”
Daryl’s brow furrowed more heavily. He stared in disbelief. “Ya went back… to the damn people who—”
“No.”
“No?” he repeated, confused.
Tears welled up in your eyes again and you fought against them, blinking rapidly to clear the blur. “No. I was too late. There was… nothing to go back to. No one. They were all dead. The whole place was ransacked, destroyed. Alpha had brought her horde in. She’d lied. There was never any fucking deal. She put the community board’s heads on pikes,” you said, your face distorting in disgust and anger as you remembered it, could almost taste the copper in the air.
Daryl’s heart sunk into his boots. “Fuck… ‘m—‘m sorry.” The distant look grew in your eyes again. You seemed to fade away, behind some gray veil where he wasn’t sure he’d be able to reach you again. Your voice drifted out from behind it.
“I still wonder if I hadn’t gone out hunting there again,” you shook your head, “maybe none of it would have turned out that way. All those people… families. Kids. They’d still be alive. Maybe the community would still be standing.”
Daryl’s chest ached. He felt hollow. Not just because of what you were telling him, of what had happened to you, but at the thought that it might happen to the people he cared about—The Hilltop, Alexandria. “Look, I’ve done things—things that I felt led—to some real bad shit happenin’. Got people killed.” Flashbacks of the line-up burst behind his eyes and he had to close them for a moment and steel himself before he could go on. “But we dun get to know. We don’t. It ain’t how it works. So, ya can’t keep on carryin’ that guilt. Maybe shit woulda turned out different, but maybe it woulda turned out exactly the same. Hell, maybe it woulda been worse. Ya made a choice to try and feed some of yours. Ain’t no blame in that.”
You looked up at him for a long moment and finally sighed. “After that, I just… I left. I hid.”
“Here?” Daryl asked.
You nodded. “Yeah. I found it and I built it into some kind of a life until I was ready to go after them.”
“Alpha.”
“And the others. She has a lot of loyal followers who are nearly as fucked up as her. If I get the chance to take them out, I do.”
Daryl set down his empty mug and clasped his hands between his knees. “Why was Lydia so angry with ya? When we went to see her at The Hilltop?”
“Because I’m killing them. Because she knows I want to kill Alpha. Because she knows she should have left with me? I don’t know. All of the above.”
Daryl’s mind was whirling, but he could see that you were exhausted, physically and now emotionally. “Thanks for tellin’ me,” he said. “I mean it. That—that can’t be easy to talk about. And… I understand why ya felt—unsafe at The Hilltop. It’s a community and it’s got people and I sure as shit would have some fuckin’ trust issues after that,” he said.
You let out an amused exhale. “Trust issues? Who says I have trust issues?”
“Oh—Nah, I—No, I didn’t—”
You let out a laugh and it broke the tension immediately. “Relax, Daryl. I’m kidding. You nailed it. But—I also suspect you may have some,” you said perceptively.
“Me?” he retorted. “Nah, I trust ev’rybody. ‘M a real open book…”
“Uh huh…” You leaned to one side as Achilles suddenly took off and landed almost silently on the rug beside Dog. He hopped closer and tilted his head one way and another, puffing up the feathers on his head and chest. Dog lifted his head lazily and turned to look at the bird. Achilles let out a low croak and strutted closer. “Achilles,” you said in a warning tone. “Be nice.”
He flapped his wings a little and walked around toward Dog’s tail. “Achilles…” But the raven showed no sign he was listening. He took a hop toward Dog’s long tail, the Malinois looking on, and then seemed to consider something for a moment. He made an exploratory grab at Dog’s tail, which the Malinois quickly flicked away and punctuated the action with a low growl. Achilles’ head tilted this way and that, thoughtfully, but the next second he hopped closer and repeated the annoyance. Dog rearranged himself more strategically on the rug, flicking his tail away again and curling his front toward the bird. He let out an annoyed noise. Achilles flapped his wings and gurgled, taking in Dog’s much closer muzzle and watchful gaze. Then, apparently undeterred, he darted forward, took hold of the end of Dog’s tail in his bill, and pulled. Dog lunged and barked. “Achilles!” you scolded him as he flew away with his prize, a tuft of Dog’s fur, and soared a victory lap around the room back up to the top of the armoire again.
Daryl couldn’t help himself and laughed at the bird’s antics. You rolled your eyes. “Don’t encourage his bad behavior,” you said. “Achilles, come on!” you said, pushing yourself up to stand. “Bedtime. Let’s go.” You held out your arm and he soared over and landed gracefully. You scratched his head affectionately. “Sorry, Dog. He can be pretty incorrigible.” The Malinois blinked at you, sighed, and went back to sleep. “Alright,” you sighed. “I’m pretty tired so… I think I’ll turn in.”
“Yeah. Yeah, good idea,” Daryl said, standing abruptly and awkwardly rubbing a hand over the back of his neck. “Dog and I will hold down the fort out here…”
You nodded and started toward the door that led to the bedroom. “Night.”
“Night…”
When you got to the threshold, you looked back at him. “I meant what I said, you know. About Alpha. You and yours should take The Shepherds seriously. Especially since you have Lydia, the whole community could be in danger. To her, Lydia is a possession.”
He nodded, a little confused by the abrupt warning. “Yeah. I got it. Thanks again, for tellin’ me.”
With another nod, you disappeared into the bedroom and shut the door softly behind you.

The Feeding Barn: your experience at The Feeding Farm
There you sat, fully naked in a row of other girls. Some were petite, others were quite chubby, but most were absolutely obese.
You fell into that last category. Rolls upon rolls, your tits hanging done almost to your belly button, a gut so large and ruined from constant stuffing that it made up most of your frame, and an array of stretch marks and cellulite from head to toe.
You had done this at least a few hundred times now, but the anticipation and excitement still swelled inside you.
Your piggy brain was at the point that it could only think about a few things. Food, getting fatter, and having your cervix rammed by a breeding machine.
You began to whine, as did the others around you. You were all starving, which was absolutely torturous.
Finally, the double doors swung open, and an army of volunteer feeders stepped in, each carrying a bucket in their arms. One after another, they began to fill your troughs full. Hot dogs, whole pizzas, milkshakes, brownie batter, nacho cheese, bacon, biscuits with gravy, and curly fries.
The thinner new girls looked on in shock and horror, some excited to begin the fattening, and others mortified. The chubbier girls who were now used to this type of feeding either groaned or cheered based on how well they had accepted the piggification process. Finally, every single girl over 300 pounds began to dig in as soon as the first bucket began to pour, so hungry for more fat on their bodies that they had no choice but to eat everything in sight.
You began to dig in, using your hands as shovels. Grease and frosting covered your hands, face, and body as you consumed thousands of calories in mere minutes. You could feel your belly swelling like a balloon, being able to stretch so massive thanks to your constant feeding.
As you ate, you thought about the fat being added to your body and felt a raging lust growing inside you. Luckily, the volunteers were passing out vibrators, which you snatched and immediately turned to the highest setting.
Many girls were already tapping out, either getting sick from the concoction of food, or just being too full, however you weren’t even close. After an hour, your trough was nearly empty, so it was refilled.
Your belly now sat between your legs, red and swollen. It sat on the ground and pushed your legs further and further apart. Your jaw hurt, your belly was screaming, and you were covered in sweat and grease, but you only stopped when you were finally made (temporarily) immobile and couldn’t reach the trough.
You breathed heavily, unable to make a single coherent thought.
Once again, the volunteers returned, funnels in hand. They inserted the tube into your mouth and began to pour a mixture of vegetable shortening, maltodextrin, and simple syrup straight down your throat. It burned as it went down, but you could literally feel the pounds being added. For another hour they continued to pour until you me belly was the size of a yoga ball and you began to drift off, consciousness fading as the food coma began to take over. Another 48 hours would be lost to you as you slept and digested the over 400,000 calories you had just consumed, but that was a sacrifice you were willing had to make.

Hiya! It's me, dude!
Seeing as we finished our moth one, I have to keep you busy. So, I have a new au for you!
This one is based on The Last Unicorn. I'm not sure if you've seen the movie, but you should definitely watch it. It was made in the 80s, so it's a tad old. But it's a gooden. I've changed the story a little bit.
I'm going to try and keep it short, but you know me.
Adam is the last unicorn, basically just living his life. Every other unicorn have been killed for their power.
Alastor is the big bad in this. He's the Red King and has been using the unicorns for their power. He's basically immortal at this point.
Lucifer is a knight in this. His story is that he's the real king and is trying to kill Alastor. So there's a bit of a selfish reason behind him helping Adam.
Lucifer knew there was only one unicorn left, and if he could capture it, he could use its power against Alastor.
Unfortunately for Lucifer, he finds the unicorn, but as it's being attacked by the Red Deer, a minion of Alastor.
Lucifer decides to turn the unicorn human to stop the deer from being able to find it. That's where he meets and names Adam.
Adam hates Lucifer at first, recognizing that he's only wanting to use him, like every other human. Lucifer tried to convince him otherwise, but it didn't work out very well. Eventually, Lucifer finds himself falling for Adam. He doesn't know if he wants his king title back or to just run away with Adam.
Adam doesn't enjoy being human. Everything is so different. He doesn't trust anyone, especially anyone who could work for Alastor. It takes him a while to trust Lucifer, but he eventually gets convinced that he helped him to keep him safe. But in the back of his mind, Adam knew the real reason.
Lucifer falls first Adam falls a lot later.
Of course, there has to be some angst. Alastor eventually works out that Adam is human, and he actually manages to kidnap Adam.
And I'll leave it there. It's basically dark fantasy- but it's not too dark! I promise!
Ima right a little bit- feel free to join if this interests you 😫😫
---
Lucifer trudges through a thick forest. The trees are suffocating. Everything made Lucifer feel uneasy, like he's being watched. But he needs to be here. He needed to find it.
The forest was so quiet, but Lucifer could sometimes hear the snapping and crushing of dead wood. The sound was all around him, sometimes far away, sometimes close.
Looking up, he could barely see the sunlight, but small beams were able to penetrate the trees, illuminating the way in front of him.
He heard the breaking of branches and trees again. This time, he could also hear the heavy falls of hooves.
He managed to duck behind a fallen log when, in the distance, he finally saw what he had been looking for; a white unicorn. It was beautiful. It's furr glistening and looked so unbelievably soft. Lucifer could see its golden eyes from here.
Lucifer was brought out his trance as his vision was assaulted by a giant, red flaming deer. Its huge antlers smashed through ancient trees, its hooves crushed vegetation, and killed small animals that were too slow to get out of the way.
He recognized the creature instantly, a minion of the Red King Alastor. The bastard manipulated his father, lying about Lucifer. His father made Alastor King.
He needed that unicorn before the Deer got it.
He sprinted off after them. Lucifer didn't have a plan, but he knew he had to do something to the Red Deer. That fucker was going to make Lucifers plan difficult.
Finally, Lucifer made it to a large clearing. But in front of him was a large, jagged cliff. The fall would kill anything, even a unicorn. That's when he saw the deer and unicorn running straight towards the cliff.
While running, he had an idea on how to save the unicorn. He just needed to get a little closer.
As he ram towards them, he could feel the head from the deer. Is wasn't warmth from a fire bit more the air around him reacting to the beast. It's skin looked sick and acidic.
Lucifer yelled some ancient words towards the unicorn. His mother was well versed in magic, so he picked up the arts easily.
With a flash of light, Lucifer saw the unicorn disappear, and the red deer ran off the cliff. But it didn't fall. Instead, it took off to the sky, soon turning to a thick smoke before disbursing.
Lucifer looked from the sky to where the unicorn was. The light is now gone, and left behind is quite surprising to Lucifer. A brown haired man lay in the grass.
Lucifer ran towards him, the clanking of his armor woke the man up.
Lucifer stopped in his tracks as he saw how beautiful the man is. He looked perfect in every way. The only thing that wasn't human about him was the four pointed, golden star on his forehead, where his horn was.
Lucifer unclipped his white cape and quickly covered the man, he didn't look completely aware yet.
But what took Lucifers' breath away was his stunning, golden eyes, that captured the sunlight.
---
Hope that set the scene and made it more interesting for you 😫
Okay- bye!
I haven't seen the movie but man!! Hit me with this! I love Al being the bad guy so much hehe. Bare with me because I will go off script lol 😆
-
Adam could feel the soft grass against his cheek, when did he lay down? He was running away only moments ago and now it was as if he collapsed. But he didn't remember falling.
He felt something get draped over him, so he opened his eyes to see a human man looking at him with equal parts wonder and concern. It had been so long since a human had been this close it freaked him out. He jumped and tried to back away, they killed all his friends and family!
Luicfer: Hey, woah woah woah, it's okay I'm not going to hurt you.
Adam: Says you.
Did that come out of his mouth? Since when could he speak English?
Lucifer grinned, oh good he would be able to talk to him that would make things so much easier. He helped him up into his wobbly two legs.
Two!?
Adam looked down and..... He was human!? What the fuck was this sorcery??
Adam: What did you do to me!?
Lucifer: I saved your life from that deer thing! It was chasing you and..... Well unicorns do exactly fly.
That was Pegasus, another one Alastor was hunting but because they could fly they were a little harder to get.
Adam glared: I know that! Fuck....
He never thought a unicorn would have such colorful language.

Chapter Eighteen - Mother Clucker
As Tyler pulled into his aunt’s driveway, you noticed the sign saying Daisy Dream Acres and the little hut with a closed sign on the window. You smiled slightly, knowing someday you’d want something like that. You looked down the driveway to see a light blue farmhouse with a wrap-around porch, set with a swing and a big Saint Bernard perched on top of it. You looked to the right and saw the huge garden full of fruits and vegetables at peak harvest, to the left of the driveway you saw another light blue building with a sign saying ‘Mother-Cluckers.’
“That must be the chicken coop?” You asked, gesturing to the building.
“Yeah, Auntie B loves sayings like that,” he chuckled, putting the truck in park behind her Ford F-150.
“You finally trade in that damn Ram 3500 for a real truck, Ty?” A voice called from the porch. You looked over and saw a woman with dark brown light curly hair, her gray roots showing her age. She had on yellow overalls and a dark blue shirt covered in small daisies.
“No, ma’am!” He said proudly while getting out of the truck, “This is (Y/n)’s truck.”
“Damn, and I was just starting to think you were comin’ around, boy,” she said, “Breakfast is almost ready and coffee is hot.”
While you were getting out of the truck, you noticed this flash of brown and white, and then Tyler was on the ground. You walked around the back of the truck to see him being slobbered with kisses by his Saint Bernard, Cash. You smiled, but it made you miss your pups at home.
“I missed you, too, bud,” Tyler laughed, scratching Cash’s back and hugging him tight while Cash whined with happiness.
“I can’t wait to see my boys,” you said softly, kneeling next to him to greet the dog.
“Just think, it’ll be tomorrow,” Tyler said, sitting up and brushing the dirt off his shirt, “Maybe we’ll bring Cash with us so they all can play together.”
“That’ll be good,” you said, “Hey buddy.”
Cash came over and almost knocked you over, slobbering kisses all over your face, too.
“Cash, c’mon man, I kiss that face,” he said, chuckling while standing up and holding his hand out for you.
“Like I don’t kiss yours,” you said, taking it and standing up.
“I am pretty kissable,” he said while smirking, “Let’s get inside and wash up before Auntie B yells at us.”
“On it,” you said, brushing your knees off while walking up the stairs to the front door. He grabbed the handle and pulled the door open.
“Ladies first,” he said, smiling and giving your butt a light smack while walking inside. This was new, but you were in front of someone else so you had to play it cool, but made a mental note to ask him about it later tonight when you were alone.
“I’m glad to see that you’re still a gentleman, Tyler,” his aunt said, “Your momma would be proud.”
“Well, I had two amazing women to raise me and whip me into shape,” he said, pouring two cups of coffee.
“Damn right you did,” she laughed, “So I’ll go out and take care of the horses if you want to do the chickens.”
“We can do that,” you said, “I’m sure Tyler can show me the ropes, but I’m sure it’s no different than the chickens my parents have.”
“They’re a handful and I’ve threatened to turn them into fried chicken,” she said while plating up hashbrowns, bacon, eggs, and toast.
“My dad not only threatened but then held out on that,” you laughed, “Was pretty good chicken.”
“When Tyler was younger a couple of the older chickens were chasing him around and pecking his rear,” she said, “Was pretty funny to watch from the porch.”
“Yeah, it wasn’t very fun running away from said chickens with a basket full of eggs,” Tyler said, sitting next to you and putting his arm on the back of your chair.
“You were, what, six?” She asked, placing plates in front of the both of you.
“Somewhere around that,” he said, “Definitely wasn’t old enough to know I could just kick them and they’d leave me alone.”
“I mean, you’re just pre-tenderizing the meat,” you said, taking a sip of your coffee. This made both Auntie B and Tyler laugh.
“I like this girl, Ty,” she said, “What took you so long to get her?”
“Well,” he said, trailing off.
“It was mainly my fault,” you said, interrupting him, “My past relationships left me pretty beaten up so if anyone tried I would usually brush them off or they’d give up trying.”
“Why do you say that they’d give up?” She asked, taking a bite of her toast.
“Let’s just say my heart is basically in Fort Knox,” you laughed slightly, “It takes a while before I start to trust people, men especially.”
“Good for you, know what you deserve,” she said, “It’s why I’ve been single after my first marriage fell apart.”
“Well, he wasn’t much of a man, Auntie B,” Tyler chimed in.
“Oh hush,” she said, waving him away.
“I’ve never heard anyone who doesn’t have a job, work ethic, is an alcoholic, and occasionally beat his wife who would do anything for him, a man,” he said, shoving a piece of bacon into his mouth.
“Ty, obviously she doesn’t want to talk about it,” you said, smacking his arm.
“It’s okay, (Y/n),” she said, finishing up her eggs, “He’s just protective, just like his father.”
“Can’t help it, it’s in my blood,” he said, finishing his toast.
“Nothing wrong with that,” you said, drinking the last of your coffee.
“You kids ready to get to work?” She said, taking the empty plates and putting them into the sink.
“As I’ll ever be,” Tyler said, getting up and stretching, “Been a while since I’ve done chores.”
“Been a lot longer for me,” you said, grabbing his ball cap and putting it on your head. You pulled your ponytail out the back and headed over to the door.
“The baskets are on the porch, dear,” she said, “Don’t be scared to give them a nudge with your feet.”
“Will do,” you said while cracking the door open, “Thank you for breakfast, Ms. Owens!”
“Call me Auntie B, honey,” she said, giving you a smile and a wave as she headed out the back door to the horses.
“And you were so worried she wouldn’t like you,” he whispered in your ear, putting his hands on your waist.
“Can’t help I’m a likable person,” you said, as he grabbed the baskets and headed down the stairs with you right behind him.
“More like lovable,” Tyler said, pulling you close and kissing your temple.
“Somedays,” you said, opening the door to the chicken coop to see a couple dozen chickens.
“You take one side, and I’ll take the other?” He asked, handing you a basket.
“Are you making this a challenge, Owens?” You asked, smirking and gripping the basket.
“What if I am?” He asked, raising his eyebrows.
“Then you’re on,” you said, heading over to the first chicken box and grabbing the eggs left unmanned.
“Are we doing how fast or how many?” He asked, going to his first box where there was nothing.
“Why not both,” you said, grabbing another four eggs.
“Because how many is just a chance of luck with having the good side,” he said, going to the box under it and moving a chicken out of the way to collect the one egg.
“That sucks,” you said, laughing while already being down five boxes and having around two dozen eggs.
“Ow!” Tyler shouted while pulling his hand back and putting his hand to his mouth, “Mother clucker!”
“Careful, we don’t want a repeat of when you were six,” you laughed, “But on the other hand I’d love to see that.”
“It wouldn’t be as funny,” he said from behind his hand.
“Yeah, it’d be ten times more funny since you’re a grown adult,” you said, looking over at him with a big smile to be met with an annoyed glare.
“I can’t help that chickens don’t like me,” he said, trying the next box.
“Chickens don’t like anyone, but they can sense fear,” you said, being close to the end of the row of boxes for your side.
“Okay, maybe I have an irrational fear of chickens,” he said, trying to get more eggs from under a chicken.
“Want me to help you?” You asked, trying to hold back a laugh while holding your basket of overflowing eggs, “I’m pretty sure I won.”
“Yeah,” he sighed, looking down at his basket to see maybe a dozen eggs.

DIONYSUS
Welcome to the divine assignment of the month! This February we want to celebrate with wine, in nature, wildly and with as much pleasure as possible. Therefore, here we have: DIONYSUS
Dionysus is the god of wine, madness, vegetation, pleasure, festivities and frenzy. Son of Zeus and Semele, married to Ariadne. There were two ways of representing him in art: as a middle-aged man with a beard, or as an effeminate young man.
His attributes are the thyrsus, a cup and a crown of ivy; and his sacred animals are the panther (sometimes leopard), the tiger, the bull and the serpent. He used to be accompanied by satyrs and maenads. The color most associated with him is purple.
The most important and well-known places of worship of this god are Naxos and Thebes, where his most renowned temples are located.
One of the best known myths of Dionysus is that of his birth. Zeus and Semele, princess of Thebes, conceived Dionysus. Hera, filled with jealousy, convinced the princess to ask Zeus to appear before her in his true form, in all his glory.
Zeus, obliged to comply with this request, did so, and Semele was burned to death by his form and lightning. Luckily, the god was able to recover the baby's body and sewed it in his thigh, where he could finish forming until he was born. Then, depending on the source, Zeus gave the child to Hermes, in other versions to Persephone or Rhea, and they gave it to Dionysus' aunt and her husband: Ino and Athamas. They convinced the couple to raise Dionysus as if he were a girl.
However, Hera's jealousy caused her to drive them both mad, causing them to kill their own children and then themselves. Zeus, to save Dionysus, turned him into a ram and took him to the nymphs of Mount Nyssa, where they raised him in a cave.
Nowadays, Dionysus has been associated as the patron saint of trans and androgynous people, due to the fact that he was raised partly as a woman and was associated with male and female characteristics in antiquity.
Other associations of Dionysus are theater and choral singing. In fact, during his festivities tragedies and comedies were performed, and the plays dedicated to the god had choral singing and dancing.
Dionysus is a god with multiple epithets and myths, all of them important to understand his changing character and his relationship with the other gods. Although some associations and relationships between them are more recent, such as the comparison between Dionysus and Apollo in Nietzsche's studies.
He is also a god known for driving mortals to madness, as he has myths in which his vengeance against those who go against him is shown in great detail. Such as the myth of Pentheus of Thebes or the Tyrrhenian pirates.
Now, what can be worked with this god? Mental health (please also remember to go to mental health professionals) is one of the aspects that can be best worked with Dionysus. Inhibition, the understanding of personal pleasures, the knowledge of your limits, the contradiction between what is socially correct and your vices or desires... He is a perfect god for shadow work and to delve into our wildest side and rooted to the most primitive pleasure, including leisure.
He helps you to express yourself, to find a way to show who you are in every step you take, to speak out and give your opinion no matter who hears it, etc. But he also helps with theater, acting, choral music (share with Apollo and the muses), etc.
Offerings to Dionysus can be grapes, wine, participating in plays or going to see them, being indulgent in your leisure time and in what you desire, honey, ivy leaves, cups, purple candles, hymns, handwritten prayers, one could even make a pact with him in self-pleasure (such as masturbation), purple crystals such as amethyst, and many more offerings.
And that’s the end of the thread! 🍇

Listen I totally get vegans and vegetarians substituting fish/ram's head for like....a head of lettuce or some other vegetables.....
But Trader Joe's vegan Scandinavian Swimmers are right there, and there's something a lot funnier and tastier about biting off the heads specifically from gummy fish to symbolize having a good new year.
