In an attempt to save money I filled my acrylic set with builder gel I already had from the last time I thought I'd do my own nails. After 3 separate filing sessions and 3 actual emery boards later I came to this shape. It was very hard to match both hands. The right hand is still more wonky, but I gave it a good effort. I used the Olive & June Sandy Scallop polish over the top instead of gel (because it looked lumpy so I just filed that back off the next day). I overall love the color but I can't wait to try it over my natural nails to get a better finish (i hope).
Tumblr media
Theres a sale at Manucurist so I wanted to give their active collection a try. I've been very insecure about my cuticles and nails. The cuticle softener Émollient effcace is exciting for me because ive never tried one before. And the Active Glow polish in Raspberry seems nice because it subtly makes your nail bed look more rosy and healthy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've heard good things about Olive & June. I'm really interested in sheer, opalescent like pearl or mother of pearl polishes. I picked out Sandy Scallop (milky gold), BEB (sheer white), and Baroque (pearly).
Tumblr media
My last professional manicure I had done for my sister's wedding is a peachy acrylic powder with chrome powder to make them shiny. My inspo was actually Hailey Bieber, but they turned out very casual and brightening. I just want to be able to recreate that feeling at home.

Big Long Nail Care Post
I got into nail painting during the pandemic, partly because I was bored in lockdown but mostly because washing my hands constantly was making my terrible hangnails even worse, and I figured if I was painting my nails, I'd have to pay attention to my hands and that would help me stop going all Black Swan on my cuticles.
Anyway, I have amassed more knowledge than anyone needs about nails, polish, and nail care, so hopefully this information is of use to somebody.
Natural Nail Care
Cuticles
Tumblr media
Image taken from Dipwell.co
The cuticle is dead skin that builds up at the base of your nails. It exists to cover the opening where the nail emerges from your skin, to protect against infection. However, if too much skin builds up on the nail, it can become inflamed or snag on objects, peeling back and damaging the living skin it's attached to. To prevent this from happening, you remove the cuticle by pushing it back or cutting the dead skin away.
Cuticle Remover
A cuticle remover is a solution that helps to soften the cuticle skin, making it easier to remove. Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover is available in pretty much every US drugstore, but there also are vegan cuticle removers and homemade recipes. For some people, just soaking their nails in warm water is sufficient to soften the cuticle.
Pushing Back Cuticles
After softening the cuticles, use either the flattened end of an orange stick or a cuticle pusher to push back the cuticle. Apply gentle pressure and do not jab the tool into the base of your nail. Use small back and forth motions until the cuticle is removed. This process may look torturous, but because the cuticle is dead skin, you don't feel anything.
This is hard to describe in text, so here's a video:
NAIL CARE ♥ PERFECT CUTICLES
Cutting Cuticles
Cutting cuticles is a controversial decision. Because the cuticle exists to protect against infection, cutting too far and causing an open wound is a health risk. If you choose to cut your cuticles, be aware of the risk. Make sure your cuticle nipper is washed before use, and wash your hands before and after cutting. If you accidentally cut yourself during the process, wash the wound and apply an antiseptic.

Nail Oil
Nails that are hydrated are less prone to breaking or peeling, whether at the cuticle, the free edge, or anywhere in between. Nail oil can be purchased ready made, or you can use jojoba oil. Many jojoba oils come with a dropper, or you can buy an empty twist pen, fill it with oil, and refill it once you've emptied it. If you find jojoba oil on its own is too runny to work with, mix it with a small amount of Vitamin E gel.
As with all skincare products, test for a reaction on a small, inconspicuous area of your skin before using.
To use nail oil, apply a small amount to the base of the nail. Rub it around the nail base, across the nail itself, into the sides of the nail, and under the free edge of the nail. Repeated as needed.
If you are wearing nail polish, apply the nail oil at the base and sides of the nail and under the free edge.
Nail Shaping
Nail Clippers
If you are not trying to grow out your nails, using nail clippers to cut them is fine. If you are trying to grow your nails, filing is better than clipping because the pressure that the blades of the clipper put on your nail can cause the nail to snap lower than intended.
Nail File
Glass nail files are preferable over emery boards, as they last longer and are less rough. Nail oil needs to be applied before any sort of filing so that the file does not crack the nail or split the layers of the nail. File your nails in one direction at a time rather than back and forth so there's less risk of breakage.
Do NOT file your nails after a shower or bath. Water seeps between the layers of your nail and they are more prone to splitting.

Nail Buffers
Unless your nails are very thick, do not buff your nails. Buffing the nail means sanding down the top layers of your nail plate, making it thinner and more prone to breakage and splitting.
If your nails are ridged, look for a smoothing base coat to fill in ridges. If your nails are stained from dark polishes, do not buff or whiten your nails. Use a base coat before applying polish. Look for a base coat that prevents staining.
Why yellow nails DON'T MATTER / Don't whiten your nails
Nail Growth
Nail hardeners do not help your nail grow; they actually make the nail more prone to breakage by making the nail plate stiffer and more likely to snap rather than bend when stressed.
Nail oil helps the nail stay hydrated and flexible, which makes it less likely to break. A non-hardening nail polish can also help protect nails without making them too rigid.
If your nails are very brittle or will not grow at all, seek medical advice.

Nail Problems
Sudden changes to your nails should be examined by a doctor. While some issues with nails, such as ridges, can be related to age, skin conditions such as eczema, trauma to the nail matrix, or other relatively harmless causes, some issues can be signs of serious underlying conditions. Your doctor will be able to advise how to treat any changes to your nails and whether you would benefit from biotin vitamins or other treatments.

Nail Polish
There are three main formulas of nail polish: solvent-based, water-based, and gel.
Solvent-based polishes, also called oil-based polishes, are the standard nail polishes you find in most stores. They consist of pigments suspended in an oil or solvent base. When the base dries on the nail, the pigment is left behind. These polishes are the easiest to find and to use.
Water-based polishes suspend their pigment in water rather than a solvent. They do not have the strong odor associated with traditional polishes. However, they can be difficult to remove. I would recommend using a water-based peel-off base coat with water-based polish for easier removal.
Gel polishes do not dry with exposure to air; instead, they need to be cured with a UV light. Gel polishes are known for their durability and are often used in salon manicures because they will last for a month or more. Removing gel polish is a long process that involves soaking the fingertips in acetone, which can leave the underlying nails thin and brittle.
I have never used gel polish, but here are two video tutorials:
DIY Gel Nails! how to do gel nails at home
Apply & Remove Gel Polish Perfectly At Home
Types of Nail Polish:
Base Coat: Typically clear, this polish goes on your bare nail to help the polish adhere and last longer. There are various types of base coat depending on your needs: Long-lasting base coats, smoothing base coats, peel-off base coats, stain-blocking base coats, and more.
Creme: The most common type of a nail polish, a creme polish is an opaque colored solvent.
Jelly: Jelly polishes are colored but translucent.
Glitter: A clear or jelly base with glitter suspended inside.
Holographic: A polish containing holographic pigments or glitters which refract light and create a rainbow effect.
Clear: A colorless nail polish. Often used interchangeably with a top coat, but not all clear polishes are top coats.
Topper: Also separate from a top coat, a topper is intended to be painted over a creme polish. It may contain glitter, confetti, or other decorative elements.
Top coat: A hard clear coat that protects the paint underneath from damage and chipping. A quick dry top coat will surface dry within minutes, allowing you to go about your life without ruining your nails so long as you don't dig them into something. Get yourself a quick dry top coat, it will save your life.
Most top coats have a glossy finish, but there are matte top coats as well. Matte top coats typically have a mattifying effect without protective qualities, so you may want to apply a matte top coat over a regular top coat.
Note: Because quick dry top coats harden with exposure to air, the polish will become thicker the more it is used and the more air gets into the bottle. This is true of all polishes but happens especially fast with quick dry top coats. For this reason, I recommend buying a nail polish thinner.

Other Products
Nail Polish Remover: Typically containing acetone. Water-based polishes may require their own specific removers.
Nail Polish Thinner: Used to thin nail polish and make it easier to spread.
Clean Up Brush: An angled brush that is dipped in nail polish remover and used during the painting process to remove any polish that got on the skin or in the cuticle. You can use a q-tip or regular paintbrush for this purpose, but the bristles of a clean up brush will be less damaged by acetone exposure than a regular paint or makeup brush.
Striping Tape: A thin tape that is laid on the nail to help keep lines straight and even when painting stripes. Can then be removed or left on as a decorative element.
Nail Vinyls: Stickers that are placed on the nail temporarily during painting and removed while the polish is still wet. They may be used to paint the white edge of a French tip manicure, or they may be used to make a more intricate design.
Nail Powder: A nail polish alternative that is buffed into a base coat. Typically a gel base coat is used.
Striping Brushes: Very thin brushes used to paint fine details on nails.
Dotting Tool/Bobby Pin: Used to create small circles on the nail.
Stamper/Stamping Plate: A silicone stamper that lifts a nail polish design off an etched metal plate and transfers it to the nail.
Makeup Sponge: Can be used to more densely pack glitter polish onto the nail. Can also be used to create a gradient effect with different polishes on the nail.
Painting Your Nails
Begin by rubbing the nail plate with rubbing alcohol or pure acetone. Do not use a nail polish remover containing a moisturizer. The purpose of this step is to dry out the nail plate to help the polish adhere, so moisturizers defeat the purpose.
Apply a base coat. Leave a small gap between your nail plate and your cuticle where there is no polish. Once the base coat is touch-dry, apply as many layers of your main color as needed. Once finished, apply a quick dry top coat. The top coat will be fully dry in roughly twenty minutes and surface dry very quickly.
Note: Clean up mistakes as you go! Polish on your skin becomes harder to remove and stains more the longer it dries. Make sure that you paint the tip of your free edge with the base coat, top coat, and at least one coat of your color. Doing this helps the polish to adhere and makes it less likely to chip. You can do this on short nails as well, you will just need to clean the surrounding skin with remover once you've painted the tip. If you get the polish in your cuticle, you can clean that up with the brush as well. To help your manicure last, avoid submerging your hands in water for extended periods. Use gloves when washing dishes.

Played L4D2 Hard Rain with a nearby window open, for a more immersive gaming experience.
Painted my nails with gold glitter polish.

A sigh of relief for those who might be overwhelmed by the mere thought of going against their color analysis, one can take solace in knowing that the biggest nail colors won’t have you reaching too far out of your comfort zone. The experts are predicting a call back to some tried and true shades that we all know and love. You’ve got the classics, such as bright red, deep cherry, and neutrals galore. Mix in a few bold pops of color like the bright Tiffany Blue or deep ocean shade and pretty finishes like light shimmers and iridescent shines, and you've got plenty of fun colors to choose from. Plus, a simple base will pair quite nicely with the more intricate nail designs that are bound to trend in 2025, should you want to elevate your mani. Everyone wins.Below are 10 of the biggest and brightest nail color trends for 2025, straight from the pros. Keep this guide handy for your next nail appointment.Tiffany BlueGucciVernis à Ongles Nail PolishOPINatural Origin Nail PolishAccording to celebrity nail artist Gina Edwards, the iconic Tiffany Blue will be everyone's go-to shade in 2025. Shades like OPI’s Cactus What You Preach, Essie’s Mint Candy Apple, Gucci’s 713 Dorothy Turquoise, and Olive & June’s KMC will give you a rich mix of baby blues, mint green, and turquoise that’s just really pretty on.Royal OceanHermèsLes Mains Hermès Nail EnamelIf you’re wanting a deeper blue shade, Edwards suggests going for a royal ocean blue. She loves the Manicurist’s Ultramarine, which is an electric deep blue that really pops. We also like JINSoon’s Cool Blue for the same pigment intensity or Lights Lacquer’s The Night Before if you wanted a pretty shimmer finish. For something more muted, try Hermès’s 81 Bleu Agate.Light CaramelA neutral base that’s rich in pigment without being too overwhelming, light caramel is one shade Edwards loves for 2025. For a warmer feel, we love CND’s Running Latte or Cote’s Adobe. For cooler tones, opt for Apres Nail’s Camel-Ot or Gitti’s No.15. As an added bonus, it will also satisfy that mocha mousse palette, should you want to lean into the Pantone’s color of the year.Deep Cherry RedNails Inc.Meet Me On Regents Street Quick Drying Nail PolishChanelLe Vernis Longwear Nail ColourCelebrity nail artist and Tweezerman Pro Artist Tom Bachik loves a deep burgundy for 2025. And while Bachik loves a good wine-colored or plum nail, deep cherry is the clear standout. Edwards agrees. Some of our favorites include Nails Inc.’s Meet Me On Regents Street, Dior’s in 047 Nuit 1947, Chanel’s Rouge Noir, and Essie’s Berry Naughty. The dark red with purple hues are a classic and there are many ways to approach the shade. “Just think of your favorite classic vampy colors,” he says.Greyish BluesEssieExpressie vegan quick-dry nail polishDeborah LippmannGrey Day Gel Lab Pro Color Nail PolishGreys are the perfect happy medium for when you want a neutral that’s still striking to the eye.Edwards particularly loves greys with blue undertones for next year. Something Like Zoya’s Nail Lacquer in Tommy and Essie’s Air Dry are deep and creamy shades of the moody grey. His go-to red is Essie’s Not Red-y For Bed for a bright take on the classic shade. We also love Chanel’s 147 Incendiare for a red-orange that’s bold and fun or the Hermès in 65 Rouge Pigment that has blue undertones for added dimension. And you can’t go wrong with the most iconic red of all: Christian Louboutin’s Rouge Louboutin.Bare NeutralsHabit CosmeticsHabit Cosmetics Nail PolishIf the paradox of choice overwhelms you, then stick to the basics. Neutral shades reigned supreme in 2024 and Bachik predicts it’s one trend that will carry over to the next year. “We’ll see a ton of nude and minimalistic nails in 2025,” he says. Opt for something like JINSoon’s Muse or Sunday’s No. 48 if you’re looking for something with a light pink base and a milky finish. OPI’s Bare My Soul has a mauve undertone which makes for a great nude for darker skin tones, while Habit’s Moon Rock has a bright white base that makes nails really pop.Pro tip: If you want your nude—or really any color—nails to look shiny and last long, he recommends the Tweezerman & Tom Bachik Nail Care Travel Set to cover all your grooming needs.Iridescent FinishesBachik also loves iridescent nails for the new year (“It’s more defined than glitter,” he says) and expects that we’ll see these metallic-like finishes in fun colors. Mooncat always makes the most fun iridescent shades and Witch Hazel is a pretty peach yellow that goes on so soft. OPI’s Oh For Oz Sake from its Wicked collection is a pretty silver-white shimmer that works for any season and Olive & June’s Pink Gold Fish is a barely there pink shimmer. He loves the Chanel Le Vernis in Songe D’été, which is a faint bubble gum pink with a subtle shimmer that’s still fun. We love to stick within the pink-purple shade range and love something like Addiction Tokyo’s Aurora Veil or Sunday’s No. 07. For a more striking contrast, Olive & June’s Frosted Gloss is a silver sheer shimmer that can work on its own or can be layered.Soft LavenderChanelLe Vernis Longwear Nail ColourNails Inc.Euphoria Highlight Nail PolishAs far as pastels go, nothing is as striking as a pretty lavender. 1. The Basics of Flawless Makeup
To achieve a flawless look, mastering the basics is key. Here's a step-by-step guide:
Prepping Your Skin
Cleanse and moisturize to create a smooth canvas.
Apply a primer to ensure your makeup lasts longer.
Foundation and Concealer
Choose a foundation that matches your skin tone and undertone.
Use concealer to hide blemishes or brighten under the eyes.
Setting the Base
Dust translucent powder over oily areas for a matte finish.
Use a setting spray to lock in your look.
2. Top Makeup Trends for 2024
Bold Eyeshadow Colors Vibrant shades like cobalt blue, neon green, and magenta are making waves. Experiment with graphic liner shapes to add drama.
Dewy Skin and Minimal Makeup Natural, glowing skin is still a must-have. Opt for tinted moisturizers and cream-based products to enhance your features without heavy layering.
Sculpted Brows Brow lamination and soft, feathered brows are in. Use a brow gel to achieve a polished yet natural look.
Glossy Lips High-shine glosses in neutral and berry tones are the perfect finishing touch. For extra dimension, layer a shimmer gloss over your favorite lipstick.
Blush Draping This technique, where blush is applied from the cheeks to the temples, is back. Choose coral or peach tones for a fresh, youthful vibe.
3. Expert Tips for Long-Lasting Makeup
Always start with a primer suited to your skin type.
Layer cream and powder products for extended wear.
Blot and reapply lipstick after eating to maintain color intensity.
Keep blotting papers or a compact powder handy for touch-ups.

Subtle Nail Polish Shades for a Professional and Polished Office Look
When it comes to achieving a polished and professional look, small details can make a big difference. Just like a well-chosen, ironed outfit or a polished hairstyle, your nails play a role in how you present yourself. Subtle, neutral nail polish shades can complete a professional look, adding elegance without being too overwhelming. In this blog, we will talk about some of the best nail polish shades for the office and tips on achieving a long-lasting, polished finish.
Why Are Subtle Shades Ideal for the Office?
In an office setting, you don’t want your nail polish or any other makeup products to be the center of attraction. Neutral and subtle nail polish shades are therefore perfect for work environments, as they give you a polished look without drawing too much attention. These simple shades can complement your formal outfit, giving you a clean and professional appearance. Whether you’re in a creative field or a traditional office, subtle nail polish shades are universally flattering and easily match any outfit or occasion.
Best Subtle Nail Polish Shades for Professional Settings
When choosing shades for a corporate look, think about colors that are soft and blend naturally. Here are some tried-and-true shades that work well in professional settings:
1. Soft Pinks
Pink is one of the most popular shades for nail polish. What makes them an obvious choice is their ability to add a hint of color without being too overwhelming or drawing attention. Pale blush or delicate baby pink shades are particularly ideal for a barely-there look.
Product Suggestion: You can check out Pixie Petal shade from Colorbar’s Magic Dry Elixir Nail Lacquer.
2. Muted Nudes
The versatility of nude paints makes them a great choice. As they closely match your natural nail color, nude shades create a clean and minimalistic look. It is difficult to suggest specific shades as they may differ according to your skin tone and undertone. Consider trying out different shades to find the one that complements your skin tone best. Experimenting with various nude nail polish shades can help you achieve a polished and sophisticated appearance.
3. Elegant Taupes
Taupe nails give a refined and polished look without being too flashy. The muted, neutral tones provide a classy, professional appearance that suits both work and casual settings. Taupe shades have warm undertones that can bring a cozy, comforting feel during the colder months. Prefer this shade from matte nail polish rather than glossy or gel as it aligns perfectly with the seasonal vibe of winter, which often leans toward deeper, earthy tones.
Product Suggestion: You can check out the On D Mauve shade from Colorbar’s Vegan Nail Lacquer collection.
Tumblr media
4. Light Grays
Light gray is a modern neutral that pairs well with professional attire, offering an elegant touch without standing out too much. It’s a wonderful option for those who want a polished yet slightly edgier look. Choose a lighter, dove gray to keep the look subtle, as darker grays can be more attention-grabbing and might not suit the work environment.
Product Suggestion: You can check the Sky Line shade from Colorbar’s Vegan Nail Lacquer Collection.
Tumblr media
5. Pale Peaches
A soft peach shade is perfect for adding a hint of warmth to your nails while maintaining the professional look. Pale peach tones provide a subtle, fresh look that’s both friendly and sophisticated. Look for pastel peach shades for the best effect. Avoid brighter peaches, which may be too bold for the office.
Product Suggestion: You can check out the Blushing Rose Pantone shade from Colorbar’s Luxe Nail Lacquer collection.
