hi! I wanted to ask if you could help me understand this argument

my dad told me that we're giving animals the gift of life and not being born at all would be way crueler no matter how their life is after they're born, if we didn't breed them they wouldn't exist at all

I just don't get how this is an argument against vefanism, how is not existing crueler than suffering and intentionally being killed?

Beings that have not been conceived, much less born, are not morally relevant because they literally do not exist. You could argue on this basis that it's immoral for anyone who is capable of having children not do so indefinitely, even if they can’t look after them - because failing to do so is unethical for the children who could have been born, no matter how miserable their lives would be. Animals start morally mattering when they are born, because that is when they have interests and are capable of suffering.

I can tell you based on experience that your Dad does not actually believe this argument - not one bit. He is arguing for the sake of arguing. He already believes exploiting and eating animals is fine, and he's come up with this nonsensical argument as his defence. The reason you find this argument so difficult to deal with is precisely because it doesn't make any sense. Your Dad hasn't given this more than two minutes of thought so you shouldn't either - laugh it off as the drivel that it is.

actually fuck it im just gonna give my thoughts about zoe completely unwarranted

first impression: shes so pretty i think i have coviud

impression now: unfortunately one of the weaker characters in the mon prom series. double unfortunately i have caught the brain worms regardless and now im obsessed with her.

favorite moment: its kinda hard to pick one but the one where she tries a vefan brownie and is genuinely suprised at being able to eat something other than sanity/person flesh comes to mind

story idea: cult of the lamb crossover where zoe meets the lamb and their cult and just has a terrible time. does not vibe at all.

unpopular opinion: i think zoe/oz is better if its platonic. not sure if thats unpopular or controversial but hey im a basic bitch whaddya gonna do

favorite relationship: i think liam and zoe being friends would be really fun. chronically irony poisoned bitch and weird trans girl who has killed the concept of cringe with her bare hands.

favorite headcanon: i actually have a couple that ive already shared so im just gonna put them here real quick

her whole thing with shipping naruto/garfield started as a jokey crack ship but she started genuinely liking it as she kept writing
