i love debate so fucking much dan with a beard is so pretty and men who are slightly unhinged always get me,, manic poorly rehabilitated dan has my entire heart and it will forever make me so upset that there is absolutely no indication of what occurred between special relationship and debate with dan. it seems like he went to some kind of therapy and jonah's comments about s/h makes me think dan s/hd or attempted something which lines up with him seeming very poorly medicated and generally off, basically how everyone is when they get out of a psych hospital? i humbly request to hear the rest of veepblr's headcanons for between special relationship and debate

“No rest for the righteous, eh?”

He’s teased her about her heroism plenty, giving her shite for the idealistic manner of throwing herself at problems that rails against all he knows. She often takes it with a roll of her eyes and a sharp quip bitten back at him. This time, though, he knows he’s said the wrong thing, her mouth snapping shut with a hard look that he’s never seen before on her.

“What is it?” Sidurgu asks, gentler now as he skims her for signs of, well, he isn’t even sure.

“S’fine.” D’alia clenches her fists at her sides, and when she lifts her chin, he spots the redness blotting her green eyes. But all the fight seems to drain from her as she crosses her own arms, shrinking in on herself, and tiredly adds, “Don’t worry about me, Sid.”

He swallows down the too late for that threatening to escape him. “We’re friends, aren’t we?”

“Of course we are.”

The ferocity in her admission forces him to turn away, passing it off as a glance down the dark corridor. He’s known it for some time, after all they’ve been through with their shared young ward and their training together, but the open certainty between them is new, almost too raw. It sears through him, even as he finally faces her again.

“You’ve been here for us,” Sidurgu forces out, the rough words dragging past his lips. “Let me do the same for you.”

the last book i read: the essex serpent!! fairly dense reading but extremely compelling and gorgeous; it's about superstition, science, religion, social progress, fear, love, and most importantly the terrifying spectre of a big snake monster <3

a book i recommend: northanger abbey by jane austen my beloved <3 it is so fun and silly and henry tilney is the man of all time while catherine is The vibe

a book that i couldn't put down: due to me being a wretched goblin this is most of the books i read because i Need to Know what happens, but most recently the sunshine court :((( the meow meows got to me... seriously though very devastating portrayal of tentative healing

a book i've read twice (or more): watership down by richard adams!!!!!! SUCH a good book, it is the odyssey with rabbits and it's so. BARK BARK BARK. it has such mythic energy and is such a fun read every time

a book on my TBR: mother night by kurt vonnegut!! i have really loved everything i've read by him, but haven't been able to find this book yet!! someday i will complete all of his works though

a book i've put down: rivers of london by ben aaronovitch... it's my own fault for reading a cop murder mystery novel... but this one is modern fantasy which i thought would make it better... reader it did not in fact make it better

a book on my wishlist: ... the wicked powers... by cassandra clare... nobody talk to me about this i just need it for reasons and it's not coming out until 2026 :(((((((

a favorite book from my childhood: THE TALE OF DESPEREAUX. KATE DICAMILLO I LOVE YOU. this is still one of my fave books ever tbh it's so gorgeous and dreamy, please read this book

a book you would give to a friend: highkey depends on the friend... maybe the golden compass by philip pullman because i can't imagine anybody not adoring that book so it would be a safe bet and also another person converted to the his dark materials agenda

a book of poetry or lyrics you own: 100 love sonnets by pablo neruda <3 poetry is super hit or miss for me but these are so gorgeous and beautiful, can't recommend enough

a nonfiction book you own: gods of the upper air by charles king! incredibly fascinating- it's about franz boas and his team of anthropologists who fought against the concept of race as it was defined and used to justify atrocities during the 20th century

what are you currently reading: sister outsider by audre lorde! i literally just started this so don't have much to say about it yet but so far it is incredibly incisive!

what are you planning on reading next: major pettigrew's last stand! tbh this has been in my TBR for a really long time at the recommendation of a friend but i don't actually know what it's about so i guess we shall see

D’alia misses a step and stumbles over her own boots, her gut lurching with the imminent threat of plummeting down the dark stairwell, but Sidurgu is ever there, steadying her against him. Her vision swims, so she grounds herself instead on the dizzying warmth of him. His hands are large, enough to nearly circle one arm and cover her plush waist, strong and calloused where her blouse has ruched under his grasp, and a flush spreads up her neck that settles high in her cheeks.

“You might be right about my cups,” she mutters into his chest.

Sidurgu laughs, more of a short, rough noise escaping his throat, and it rumbles beneath her head. “Are you staying here tonight?”

“I don’t have a room.”

“Rielle won’t mind if you stay with us. You can take the bed.”

She cranes her neck to look at him. “You’re offering me your bed?”

“Look, if putting up with a night on the hard floor is the price to pay so you don’t get yourself killed before you reach that fancy manor, so be it,” Sidurgu says, twisting away as he rubs the back of his neck. It takes him a few breaths to face her again, but when he does, his gaze is softer, half-hidden behind the silvery hair flopped over his forehead, yet pinning her in place as he observes her in turn. “Stay here tonight.”
