One Dress a Day Challenge
October: Silver Redux
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery / Elizabeth Hurley as Vanessa Kensington
This metallic silver minidress with halter collar and matching go-go boots evokes the 1960s. The T-strap in the back may be a nod to Rosie Carver's white minidress from Live and Let Die.
Dr. Evil describes the outfit as "quasi-futuristic" and says he designed it himself. (Costumes for this movie were actually designed by Deena Appel.)

Found an Austin Powers collection and watched the first one this time !  It had been a while
Tumblr media
-- Austin Powers is in it, and plays a role in the events
-- He’s frozen and comes back later, not unlike Aang or Fry
-- He dresses like Miles Edgeworth--his favourite character !
-- I liked when Vanessa wears glasses.  You can also see her Feet, if that kind of thing is your bag.  It looked like they were having a lot of fun at that point !
-- I hope he didn’t make her uncomfortable at first
-- Alotta seems to be an Italian weeb [?]; I wonder what her favourite anime is...mine is Shaman King !
-- The FemBots exploding brought robot Foot Soldiers[TMNT] to mind
-- A right-hand man with an eyepatch brought Sagat [Street Fighter movie] to mind
-- Dr. Evil always says “Gentlemen”, even if there are ladies present.  And, that’s not even the worst thing he does !

*Mac, in a bad British accent* Yeah, groovy, baby!
Had the idea for months to draw Macdennis as Austin Powers and his girl for Halloween. (And for Vanessa Kensington, all they had to do was just make a few modifications to the silver dress Dennis already had.)

With the help of sexy sidekick Vanessa Kensington, he just might.

Note
Before I recently discovered that the fembot who landed on Austin was an actual stunt actress, I honestly thought it was some kind of animatronic or something. Would they have gone that route if they couldn't get an an actual female to do the stunt?
Tumblr media
Anita was down to also do stunts as Vanessa Kensington, plus her Fembot scene had her have hair on fire, lunging after Austin and also doing the cartwheels with Cris, so her hanging from a trapeze may not have been much more of a stretch.
That said, the B roll shows there were likely multiple takes, so I wouldn't want to be the one hanging.
Animatronics were used though, for the close-up shots of Cheryl's nozzles deploying, so it could have maybe been an option available, but I'm glad they went with what they did.

[PITCH]
The Night Hollow
What is it —
A 2D animated musical fantasy film that is a much darker take on the type of fairy tale adaptations that Disney, Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox would do in the 80s and 90s with it being eventually revealed to be a stealth sequel to one of them.
Tumblr media
PREMISE:
Set in medieval times and in a high ranking academy for girls, we follow Eilonwy Spring, a young blonde 15 year old girl who's struggling to live up to her noble family's name despite her almost bubbly attitude which leads to her being a social outcast that doesn't fit in well with any of her peers.
It's here that everything is about to change for her when after being humiliated in front of the whole school, she runs off alone into the forest surrounding the academy and finds, to her shock and surprise, little fire sprites who form a trail that she follows one at a time and Eilonwy discovers a series of different magical orbs of numerous different elements. Mesmerized by one in particular where a stunning singing voice is coming from, she makes the mistake of touching it and it absorbs into her. It grants her a magical singing voice that can turn into a smoky aura out of her mouth and control things with her emotions.
Realizing she can at long last prove she's worthy of her family name and isn't the laughingstock of the entire academy, Eilonwy decides to spread her discoveries around to the kingdomfolk herself as if it's Christmas and give all of the orbs to the boys and girls in her own way. All of this ultimately leads to a disaster of epic proportions all the while the woman she witnessed in the orb that gave her the singing ability, Queen Ariel, is quite literally dragged (or rather kidnapped and bagged) into this where she's brought to and confronted by an old foe of hers that may be more responsible for everything that's happening more than she looks.
Tumblr media
NOTES/TRIVIA/DETAILS:
• The voices for the three leads are Kensington Tallman as Eilonwy Spring and yes, Jodi Benson herself as both Ariel and Vaness..... Ursula with the latter's dual roles allow her voice actress to show the range that she does have.
• The animation style is believe it or not heavily inspired by the animation in The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning, with the smoothness, colors, expressions, thin lines and movements. But of course, with a darker and almost macabre look that's akin to The Black Cauldron, The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow (1949) and yes the animated works of Tim Burton WHILE at the same time clearly making it its very own thing and offering something completely new we haven't seen yet.
• As for who is the director of this movie, the choices are in my mind Gil Kenan, Shane Acker, Louis Leterrier, David Yarovesky and Kevin Munroe for different reasons. Gil and Shane so they can bring the same dark and intense, scary edge that both Monster House (2006) and 9 (2009) had, Louis so he can bring the same ambition The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance (Netflix) had, David so he can bring the same level of appropriately weird that Nightbooks (2021) had and Kevin so that he can definitely bring the same dark look and harsh shadows of TMNT (2007) to this.
• It will be kept ambigious how Ursula came back to life, retained her form as Vanessa and even keeping her Ariel voice but it will be alluded to a fair amount of times and an obvious but nice touch is she still has a hole in her stomach.
• What does make it interesting is that believe it or not, even though she starts off as the villain and is revealed to be secretly responsible for the events of the movie, Ursula ends up deciding to help Ariel stop Eilonwy and does sort of become an anti-hero somewhat, sort of. She's still not a good person and she enjoys being twisted but she does have more of a code now that it's been years later and has grown a soft spot for Ariel with her now being impressed by her.
