Artisanal Ice Cream Market Survey Report 2022 Along with Statistics, Forecasts till 2030
Tumblr media
Artisanal ice cream is a type of ice cream that is made in small batches using high-quality, often locally sourced, ingredients. Unlike mass-produced ice cream, which is typically made with artificial flavors, preservatives, and stabilizers, artisanal ice cream is made with all-natural ingredients, and often incorporates unique and creative flavor combinations. Artisanal ice cream makers often take pride in the quality and uniqueness of their products, and may experiment with different ingredients and techniques to create one-of-a-kind flavors. Some artisanal ice cream makers may also offer seasonal flavors, using fresh ingredients that are only available during certain times of the year.
The artisanal ice cream trend has become increasingly popular in recent years, as consumers have become more interested in high-quality, locally sourced food products. Many cities now have a thriving artisanal ice cream scene, with small-batch ice cream makers opening up shops and selling their products at farmers markets and food fairs.
Major players operating in the global artisanal ice cream market include Unilever, Van Leeuwen, Nestlé S.A., Bi-Rite Creamery, Carmela Ice Cream Co., Gracie's Ice Cream, Boho Gelato, High Road Craft Brands, True & 12 Handmade Ice Cream, and Fiasco Gelato Cafes Ltd.
The demand for artisanal ice cream has been steadily increasing in recent years, as more consumers become interested in high-quality, locally sourced, and all-natural food products. Many people are willing to pay a premium for artisanal ice cream because they appreciate the unique flavors and higher quality ingredients used in the production process.
In addition, the artisanal ice cream market has been boosted by the trend toward small-batch, locally produced food products. Many consumers are seeking out products that are made by hand in small quantities, rather than mass-produced in factories. This trend has led to the growth of many small artisanal ice cream makers, who often sell their products at local farmers markets, food fairs, and through online stores.
Furthermore, artisanal ice cream makers often use unique and creative flavor combinations, which can attract customers who are looking for new and interesting taste experiences. Many artisanal ice cream makers also use high-quality ingredients, such as locally sourced fruit, and organic or non-GMO ingredients, which can appeal to health-conscious consumers.
The artisanal ice cream market has experienced significant growth in recent years and is expected to continue to grow in the future. There are several factors driving this growth, including changing consumer preferences and a trend toward locally sourced and all-natural food products.
One key driver of the growth of the artisanal ice cream market is the increasing interest in high-quality and unique food products. Consumers are becoming more aware of the benefits of locally sourced, all-natural, and organic ingredients, and are willing to pay a premium for products that meet these criteria. Artisanal ice cream makers have responded to this demand by offering unique and creative flavors, often using locally sourced or organic ingredients.
Another factor contributing to the growth of the artisanal ice cream market is the increasing availability of these products. Many artisanal ice cream makers are now selling their products in grocery stores, cafes, and restaurants, as well as at farmers markets and food fairs. This increased distribution has made it easier for consumers to access artisanal ice cream and has helped to build awareness of these products.
In addition, the growth of the artisanal ice cream market has been fueled by social media, which has helped to create buzz around new and innovative flavors. Many artisanal ice cream makers have used social media platforms to promote their products and connect with customers, helping to build a loyal following for their brands.

Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream - Los Angeles, CA
This place is right on par with Jeni’s and Salt n’ Straw for unique, edgy flavors and an upscale modern atmosphere. I sampled Honeycomb, Passionfruit layer cake, Vegan Matcha before landing on the seasonal Hazelnut Caramel Brownie. I enjoyed EVERY SINGLE SAMPLE and wish it were socially appropriate to sample everything (I got the vibe their employees were running out of patience with me). My friend Jaden and her friend split the traditional sundae (above) with honeycomb ice cream as the base. It looked awesome and there wasn’t a bite left. VLAIC is a bit pricey, but a nice splurge for an ice cream lover.
Travel tip: They are in the same plaza as UCB Franklin and Sushi Stop, across from the Scientology headquarters, so it is very easy to make an evening out of the trip - which I totally did.

You might have imagined that ice cream couldn’t get any better than “premium”; the word indicates the ultimate in quality, the top slot. But this is America, a place where brands regularly transcend the limits placed upon them by science or decency, where terms like “fast casual” or “wellness” can become synonymous with “lifestyle,” and where no one has ever minded the redundancy of a superlative like “super premium.”
More recently, an insurgent category, informally called “ultra premium,” has emerged. These ice creams have pornographic amounts of butterfat — 17 to 20 percent — while their branding reflects the new artisanal-American vernacular of “hand-packed,” “locally made,” and “small batch.” Ingredients aren’t just “the best,” they’re seasonal, organic, heirloom, “crafted in-house,” and sometimes, savory (fennel), unexpected (pickled mango), or disarmingly paired (milk chocolate and tarragon). Ultra-premium ice cream is also exceedingly expensive, with pints generally running between $8 and $12.
This article is everything I ever wanted to know about manufacturing ice cream.

The Golden Poppy Market, 1209 Cypress Ave, Los Angeles (Cypress Park), CA 90065
Tumblr media
The Golden Poppy Market opened in April of this year; it’s a stylish small grocery/convenience store/bodega. They carry a bit of everything, including organic produce, pantry staples, cold beverages, Harmony Farms meats, ice cream from Jeni’s, Straus, McConnell’s, Van Leeuwen, and Nancy’s Gelato, snacks, candy, Bub & Grandma’s bread, artisanal cheese and charcuterie, Cake Monkey treats, frozen pizza from a local vendor called Neon Pizza, dumplings from a local vendor, etc.
It’s not quite as high end as Cookbook Market and you can get most of the items they carry at Whole Foods but there’s nothing like it in Cypress Park. I didn’t find any new kombucha to try either. There was a sale section in the very back.
Jacobsen Salt Co. pink Himalayan salt grinder ($7.79): Same product is $9 on the Jacobsen Salt website
Beecher’s flagship cheese ($9.10): This was slightly more expensive than Von’s price of $8.99
They’re going to add a café in a few months. The back patio is a lovely retreat that even has free wi-fi. The owner couldn’t have been nicer.
4 out of 5 stars
