“Can I have some-”
“No,” Yoongi tuts, cracking the top of Seokjin’s knuckles with the wooden spoon in his hand. Seokjin howls and yanks his hand away, skin reddening under the quick assault of Yoongi’s reflexes. “You can have it when it’s ready.”
“I’m the host!”
Yoongi looks around the spacious kitchen where his friends are carrying on. Taehyung is wrestling Jimin over the Bluetooth speaker while Hoseok swings his legs back and forth from where he sits on the counter, delighted as he flips through songs to orchestrate their fight. Jungkook giggles with his phone out, filming the bickering pair while Namjoon stands in the doorway, trying to decide if he wants to break them up or risk walking by them with the two bottles of wine in his hand.
Namjoon risks the wine and regrets it. Taehyung bumps into Namjoon immediately, causing the bottles to slip from his hand and shatter on the ground. Hoseok yells in fright and Yoongi’s hand grips the wooden spoon hard enough that it immediately splinters in his hand.
Seokjin immediately begins yelling and throwing his hand in the air, Taehyung starts accusing Jimin of pushing him into Namjoon on purpose, and Jungkook frantically opens and closes cabinets and drawers to look for towels.
Each sound of the chaos grates against Yoongi’s sensitive hearing. The smell of sweat on their skin, the pumping adrenaline and fright from Hoseok’s momentarily startle. It becomes too much and he feels the instinct to lash out curl up inside of him like a whip.
“Everyone out!” Yoongi hisses, hackles rising.
The sound of his voice cuts through the kitchen, stopping everyone in silence. Six pairs of eyes turn to look at where he stands at the stove, steam hitting his face. His gums ache where his fangs threaten to slip through, a sign of his irritation.
“But I’m the host!” Seokjin protests again.
Yoongi points the now-ruined spoon at him. “You, are doing fuck all as host.”
“You told me you’d cook!”
“I always cook!”
“Well, you’re the best at it! You’ve been doing it for like three hundred years!”
Yoongi hears you before he sees you. Immediately he picks up the shutting of the car door, the additional heartbeat as you walk up the drive. Even from the kitchen with the wine and the smell of his friends and the cooking food, Yoongi can smell your lavender scent from where he stands.
Immediately tension bleeds out of him. You let yourself into the house and find them in the kitchen, calling out for them as you step in and freeze, scanning the room. Your mouth forms an ‘o’ at the chaos and he watches you as your eyes drag to his, taking in the ruined cooking utensil, the wine of the floor, and his twitching lip.
You clap your hands together then. “Everyone out!” you order. “Out, out, out!”
Unlike when Yoongi orders everyone to do something, they all listen to you. Hoseok scrambles off the counter and bolts toward the living room, hot on Jimin and Taehyung’s heels who both give you sheepish laughs. Namjoon rubs the back of his neck awkwardly and spins on his heel to leave, Seokjin and Jungkook on his trail.
Once they’re gone, it’s just you and Yoongi in the kitchen, pasta nearly boiling over. You point to the pot, brows raised. “You focus on that, I’ll clean all this, okay?”
Fuck Yoongi loves you. Something as simple as giving directions and just addressing the mess with a plane soothes his irritated nerves. He nods, not taking his eyes off of you as he continues the meal. Yoongi is good at multi-tasking, and his favorite thing is to watch you even when you’re not looking.
Just being in the same room as you brings him peace. Hundreds of years of existence, and Yoongi has never known balance like this. Has never found someone who steadies his too-loud world, who brings him the silence that he needs.
Until you.
Even though Yoongi can hear the boys being rowdy in the living room, it’s silent in the kitchen. You begin sweeping glass, oh so careful not to cut your fingers, and put Yoongi on edge. He’s not worried - you’ve always taken extra steps to avoid bloodletting around him and unlike Namjoon, you’re good at it.
Yoongi wants you to come over to him. He chews on his lip as he works on sauce for the pasta. His eyes dart to you often, fingers flexing as if to reach out and beckon you over to him. You’ve only been in the house for ten minutes, but he wants to feel your warm skin beneath his fingertips. The heat of you is just a moment away.
When you finish, you come around the counter to greet him properly. His heart skips in his chest - for it does still beat - and Yoongi feels his mouth twitch upward and his edges soften out as you lean up to him, pressing a sweet kiss to his lips.
Your mouth is warm against his, lips soft. He sighs and melts into you, pressing his mouth against yours a little harder. He feels you smile against him before you nibble his bottom lip and pull away, looking up at him. “How’s it going?”
“Hm.”
You snake an arm around his waist and pull your hips flush together. He likes the closeness, the way your skin makes his buzz. His nose fills with the scent of lavender and the undercurrent of your blood, a smell so uniquely you that he could never forget it.
“Can I taste,” you as, pointing to the steaming veggies. Yoongi nods, finding a fork and stabbing a seasoned green bean from the pan. He offers it to you. He watches, hypnotized as your mouth works over it. You hum, brightening. “Ugh, unreal.”
He leans forward and steals a kiss, taking you by surprise. He licks into your mouth, tongue tasting the butter and salt, the sweetest of your lips. When he pulls away, you’re giving him a cursory glance. “Needy, huh?”
He feels himself flush. “Maybe.”
Your fingers squeeze his hips, making his heart flip.
“Why does she get to taste?” Seokjin’s voice shatters the moment. Yoongi looks over your head and bares his fangs, his eyes flashing from black to crimson, muscles rippling. Seokjin squeals and runs out of the kitchen, screaming. “He is hissing at me!”
Slowly, Yoongi’s fangs recede. He feels the feral instinct to tear out Seokjin’s throat recede, and looks down at you, where you watch him with mild amusement, arm still snug around his hips.
“They’re annoying me,” Yoongi says, as if to answer the silent question. “He picked Dracula to watch tonight.”
You arch a brow. “Is that so?” Yoongi pouts. You press a kiss to his shoulder and pat his waist. “Finish up in here and I’ll make sure they’re all set out there.”
Hunger rolls through him, uncontrolled. He feels it swift, a dam breaking. He watches you wipe your hands on your jeans and walk toward the living room, his eyes pinned to the empty door as you vanish. He hears you when you raise your voice, immediately laying into Seokjin.
Yoongi smirks and looks back down as he starts turning off the stove. Listening to you lay into Seokjin for his funny little joke for movie night makes Yoongi preen, lifting his chin a little as Seokjin whines and throws himself on the couch, letting you lash him.
By the time Yoongi is calling everyone to make a plate, Seokjin comes in with his ears red and eyes on the floor. You return to the kitchen, nonplussed and pointing to the back of the line forming to plate food. Seokjin grumbles about him being the host again but listens.
Yoongi leans against the counter, throwing a rag over his shoulder. You make yourself a plate and set it aside before going over to the bottles of wine, pouring two glasses before coming over to him and handing him one. He thanks you quietly taking a sip.
As everyone filters back out into the living room to start the movie. Yoongi pushes off the counter to join them. You catch his wrist, signaling him to stay back. Once alone, you pull him toward you, making him cage you in against the counter.
“Hungry?” you ask, gaze darkening. His stomach flips and he nods, looking down his nose at you. You tilt your neck to the side. “Want?”
He shakes his head. “You should eat and watch the movie first.”
“You’re a little on edge. Maybe a snack first?” Yoongi goes back and forth on it. He feels his gums ache, feels the burn set into his throat. His eyes drift to the soft spot on your neck where your pulse beats, his favorite song. “Come on, baby,” you coo. “Just small bites.”
That voice. That voice. Yoongi feels his knees weaken. He leans further into you and you slide your hands around his waist, pulling him flush against you. His cock twitches and he groans, lids fluttering as you lean your head back, baring your neck for him.
Fuck fuck fuck.
Slowly, Yoongi lowers his face to your throat. He brushes his nose along the slender slope of your neck, inhaling. A shiver ripples through him and he feels the pinch of his fangs slide through. Your pulse quickens and he smells the change in you - feels the way your thighs press together.
He salivates. He can’t help it, his mouth pooling slowly with water as he brushes his open lips against your warm skin in the ghost of a kiss. Your breathing is faint and fluttering, your heart hammering in your chest. You’re not afraid, though. He’d be able to tell.
You’re excited and turned on, your fingers twisting in Yoongi’s shirt as his tongue slips gently between his fangs to taste your skin. You suck in a sharp breath and he whines a little, so in tune with your sounds. Every sound.
So, so carefully, Yoongi scraps his fangs against your skin and presses his tongue against your beating pulse, right where he wants to bite. He gives in, slowly sinking his teeth into tender flesh, his mouth filling with sweet nectar immediately.
The reaction is immediate. His eyes roll back into his head and he grinds against you, seeking friction as his mouth suckles gently, pulling warm fluid into his mouth. You’re lax in his arms, letting the endorphins of the bite wash over you.
Yoongi can smell what it does to you, one of his hands dropping from holding your side to pressing between your legs, rubbing you through your jeans. Your head knocks loudly against the counter, making him open his eyes and look up at you through his lashes, mouth still attached to your throat.
Eyes shut, mouth open, you sag against the counter. He can see every flicker of your eyes behind your lids, drifting in his bite. In him. Yoongi’s tongue presses over the wound, staying there as he swallows his last fill. He’s more interested in the way he works to open your jeans, now, uncaring that they’ve started the movie in the living room.
Yoongi is intimately focused on your reactions as he pulls down your zipper. You press your cunt toward him, asking. Seeking. Wanting. So quickly this has turned into more than small bites, and Yoongi doesn’t care. He’ll give you whatever you want, and he can sense the vibration in you, his predator senses tuned in to your desire.
Your folds are damp as he slides his fingers in, seeking your heat. The fit is tight in your jeans but you lean back for him, pulling them down a little, giving Yoongi access to pull your panties to the side and slide the pads of his fingers up and down your slit.
“Oh,” you sigh, nails digging into his hips. “Please,” you ask. “Please please please, Yoongi.”
He gives in, sliding a finger down the wet, hot seam of you and pressing in. Your walls clutch around him, sucking him in as he moans against your throat. His tongue laps back and forth over the wound on your neck, not drinking more but healing the skin, tasting your sweat.
“Just like that, baby,” you encourage. You roll your hips into his hand, grinding your swollen clit against his palm. He’s fully hard now, cock throbbing as he works his fingers into your cunt, the wet sound muted by the loud moving blaring in the living room. “Fuck. Do you want more?”
Yoongi shakes his head and hides his face between your neck and shoulder, panting as he works you. You squeeze around him wetly, your entire body shaking against him. He can tell your close, the very fibers stitching you together shaking loose as he angles his fingers, pressing against that soft spot inside of you.
He will never get tired of this. The way you walk into his life when he’s having a less-than-ideal day and put everything right again. How you pick up the pieces and put them where they need to be, how you chastise his friends when they want to pick on his vampirism, and how you just give him what he wants but won’t ask for.
So ready to give in to him.
When you come around his fingers, Yoongi makes a needy sound at the back of his throat. He loves the way you squeeze him, the way you go silent and soft. Sagging against the counter. He sucks at your neck - not for blood, but for the intimacy. Just the taste of your skin.
Slowly, you peel apart. Yoongi pulls his hands from your jeans, watching you open your eyes as he grins - perhaps the first real smile all day - and pops them into his mouth. He moans around them, the taste of you sticky on his tongue, making him ripple in pleasure again.
When he retracts his fingers, you surge forward, giving him a single, wet kiss, tasting back.
“Better?” you ask gently, kissing the corner of his mouth. His chin. His nose. He nods his head. “Do you need me to -”
He shakes his head, feeling your hand move toward his cock. “Just need ten.”
“You sure?”
“Mhmm.” He leans forward, licking a soft stripe up your neck. “Thank you.”
“For?”
“Knowing what I need. Being a momentary lapse of peace in a world that is sometimes too loud. For giving me what I need.”
Your grin is blinding. “I love you.”
“You too.” His kiss against your neck is soft and sweet. “And that was much more than just small bites.”

🩸My Master List🩸
Intro;
I knew something was wrong in the small city I’ve been living ever since I was born here and after I graduated from high school I was sure it had nothing to do with the fact that the whole year this small hell of a city called Spring Villa always rained every day.
Every god damn day.
Not that i was complaining, one summer during a high school trip to California was enough for me to realize hot weather was not for me. One day to be more specific, it was my first time and everything seemed so more alive and colorful. But all come to an end since i had to spend the rest of the trip at the hospital with an IV inside my arm due to being exposed to the sun for too long, just one afternoon which was the same as everyone else did but i was the only one who almost died that day for burning on the sun and end up looking like a hot Cheeto. After that i even started to enjoy the cold humid air hitting my face every day when i left to work, the only thing it didn’t change was my hatred for the rain every morning. Getting wet before work was not very enjoyable, everyone could agree on that note.
But the beautiful weather of the city was not the most uncanny thing about it, it has been almost ten years since a serial killer was circling around the Spring Villa. I was only a teen when everything became known to everyone in the city that something wasn’t right, so many bodies were found around Spring Villa along the years people began to stay at home locked away from everything. Some left the city for once and never came back, those who stayed were people who had nowhere else to go, like me.
My father was terrified of the accidents involving the serial killer in town and he too left before anyone else, leaving me and my mother behind. I couldn’t blame him especially after my brother ended up becoming one of the victims, when the police officer called for my parents to identify the body it didn’t felt real to me. I was not allowed to go since at the time i was underage but, I didn’t even got a chance to say goodbye either. My parents didn’t do a funeral for him, it was all too much to bear so instead he was cremated and thrown on a river on the west side of Spring Villa his favorite place to hide with his friends. Ever since that happened my parents have not been the same, I knew that sooner or later this was bound to happen. When father left it was the last straw of sanity of my mother, she became an alcoholic and well… not good.
I’ve been working at the Spring Grill ever since I graduated high school, apart from so many people leaving the city many others came from cities around the town to get a bit of incloser about the serial killer of Spring Villa, he was never caught and that mystery seemed to amaze many tourists around town.
People from all over came to my stupid silly little city to make videos about the killer of my brother, at first I was so angry at them I wished they just didn’t came at all but, over the years it became dull and empty inside my heart. I had more to worry about then that and since I needed money to pay the rent I was more then happy so many tourist came to Spring Villa.
After all I meet my best friend like that.

Streetlights lined the damp roadway and sidewalk, casting hazy beams onto the pavement below. It was around 11:30 PM and you were heading home after a night out with friends as a way to wind down after a long week. You spent the late evening at a 24 hour karaoke bar where you sang (terribly) to all of your favorite songs and shared a few drinks with your small group of three; laughing and carrying on until your throats were raw from belting out lyrics for hours on end.
You reminisced on the new memories as you headed home for the evening, hoping to go out for karaoke again sometime soon. It was an ideal way to let loose have a good time.
Judging by the familiar buildings, you were nearing your apartment building, wanting nothing more than to shower and swap your fashionable, but mildly uncomfortable, attire for some loose pajamas.
A faint noise that sounded like a whimper reached your ears just as you were approaching a small alleyway. The noise was alarming and had sirens going off in your head. Someone was clearly in distress and with you being the only person walking the streets at this hour, you felt you should help.
You reached for your pepper spray, which you always carried with you, and cautiously approached the space between two buildings, peering around to corner to assess the situation before making any rash decisions.
A man with long, dark hair had a woman caged against the brick wall of one of the structures. It very much appeared that he was forcing himself on her.
Clutching your pepper spray in your hand and making sure your phone was in your back pocket, you stepped out into the opening of the alley.
"Hey! What do you think you're doing?"
"Get away from her!" is what you wanted to say next, but your voice was stuck in your throat.
The man turned towards you, his appearance making every limb in your body go completely numb with fear. Blood dripped from his mouth, dribbling down his chin. The woman's neck was covered in the dark ruby liquid, her body limp in the man's arms.
You could only watch as she dropped to the ground unconscious, staring at her motionless form, horrified.
When your gaze met that of the man before you, you knew you were in danger. He smirked, showing off a set of sharp fangs as he licked away some of the blood smeared on and around his mouth. His irises were the same deep crimson hue as the bodily fluid that coated his lips, his sharp gaze feeling as if it was burning a hole in you.
"What's a pretty girl like you doing walking around alone so late at night?" He inquired, striding towards you.
You couldn't speak. The paralyzing fear coursing through your body had rendered you speechless.
"There's some dangerous people lurking this time of night. Don't you know?"
"D-Don't get any closer." You backed away, clutching the small can of pepper spray in your trembling hand.
He was standing directly in front of you in an instant, appearing at the speed of light. In the blink of an eye, he had you pinned against the brick wall just like the unconscious woman was moments earlier. You were now in her position. With your wrists bound by his hands, you were rendered immobile and completely helpless. The man's gaze trailed to the can clutched in your hand.
"That's real cute." He chuckled. "You think that little can of pepper spray is going to save you?"
His grip on your wrists tightened, causing you to drop your only means of defense to the concrete.
"You interrupted my meal, sweetheart." He uttered, his voice low and threatening.
He inhaled deeply, moving his face closer to your neck where he dragged the tip of his nose along your skin.
"Mmm." He hummed. "You smell much nicer than her. I hope you don't mind if I have a little taste."
"Please no."
"Shh." He placed his finger over your lips, silencing you.
You flinched at the feeling of his sharp fangs grazing your neck, yelping when his teeth pierced your skin. Tears welled up in your eyes from both the overwhelming pain and the fear that you were about to be killed.
The sound of him gulping down your blood was all you could hear, wondering how long it would take for him to stop.
His hands dropped to your waist, keeping you pressed firmly against the wall. He groaned against your neck, savoring the taste of you while he held on tighter, the blunt tips of his nails digging into your waist. At that point, you could feel yourself slipping away quickly. He was taking too much too fast and your body was becoming weak.
With your wrists no longer being pinned down, you tried to push the vampire off of you, but it was no use. Your head was starting to spin and your vision was gradually becoming blurrier. At this rate, you would pass out soon.
"S-stop." You whispered weakly, your tingling hands still trying to force him away.
After fighting to keep your heavy eyelids open, you admitted deafeat, giving in and letting unconsciousness take over. Just as your eyes closed, you felt the man retract his fangs, your body going limp in his arms.
The last thing you heard before passing out was a low curse from the man.
Whatever dream you were having slowly faded out as you came to consciousness, your body gradually beginning to wake up. Light hit your eyelids and the faint sounds of the outside reached your ears. You hummed softly, rolling over onto your side and tugging the sheets up higher over your shoulders.
Wait.
You didn't remember coming home, let alone going to bed. You opened your eyes and abruptly shot up into a sitting position. A sharp sting surged through your neck causing you to hiss in response, clenching your teeth together. Instinctively reaching up to where the burning was, you felt a piece of gauze taped to your neck.
Oh no.
You took in your surroundings, realizing fairly quickly that you weren't in your apartment. In fact, you didn't recognize the room.
Whose house were you in?
A distant, male voice coming from somewhere in the house reached your ears. He was shouting curse words and, judging by the sounds of objects hitting the floor, he was throwing things too.
Your heart began to race, recalling the voice from the night before.
Swinging your legs off the side of the bed, you started to get up only for your knees to buckle. You were quick to catch yourself on the frame of the bed and pull yourself back onto the mattress. It was clear that you were far too weak to get out of there. Your eyes drifted over to the window, wondering how high up it was and if you might be able to drag yourself over to it.
Before you could try and come up with a solid escape plan, the door opened.
"You're awake." The man sounded relieved.
"Get away from me!" You demanded, trying to sound stern even though you were scooting back against the headboard to get away.
"Are you okay? Do you feel alright?"
"Don't come near me, you monster! You nearly killed me!"
His eyes widened and he stepped back as if your words physically hit him.
"Yeah." He chuckled dryly. "I am a monster."
For some reason you felt bad for calling him that. He was obviously the one who brought you back to his place, he bandaged the bite on your neck, and he came to check on you as soon as you woke up.
"Sorry." You murmured, glancing down at your hands that rested in your lap. "I shouldn't have said that."
"No, you're right."
You lifted your gaze. The man looked visibly distraught, shame and guilt painting his features.
"I almost killed you. I don't know what got into me last night. I never let my thirst get out of control. I already wasn't in my right mind and when you walked up, I got one whiff of your scent and it drove me to the edge. I went into a blind frenzy. I wasn't aware of what I was doing until it was almost too late. I know an apology doesn't fix it, but I'm so sorry."
"What happened to the girl?" You questioned after a brief moment of silence, hoping you wouldn't regret asking.
"She's okay. I healed her wound and wiped her memory. She won't remember anything that happened."
"But you didn't wipe my memory?"
He hesitated. "No."
"Why?"
"I don't really know. I saw your face and..." He trailed off, unable to really put it into words. "It was just something about you that made me decide not to erase your memory."
You must've had a perplexed expression because he turned away muttering, "I don't know. It's dumb."
"What's your name?" You asked him in an attempt to change the subject since he was obviously uncomfortable.
"Yoongi."
"I'm Y/n."
"Good to know." He smiled a little. "I'll go get you some water."
Your eyes followed him as he walked out of the room.
Well, he wasn't trying to kill you, so that was good. Maybe he really wasn't a bad guy.
He returned to the room almost as quickly as he left, handing you a glass of water. You thanked him and took a sip, the cool liquid soothing your dry mouth and throat.
"You never answered me earlier. Are you okay?" Yoongi asked.
"I'm still pretty weak, but I guess I'm alright. I tried getting up, but my knees gave out."
Yoongi lowered his head. "I'm sorry."
You pressed your lips together and fiddled with the sheets.
"How is your neck?" He gestured to the gauze.
"Sore."
"Do you mind if I check it?"
He could see you were hesitant to accept. He didn't blame you for feeling that way.
"I won't hurt you. I promise."
After a moment of hesitation, you nodded.
He took a seat on the edge of the bed and brushed your hair back to assess the damage. You suppressed a shiver at his actions. Careful not to be too rough, he started to remove the medical tape that held the gauze in place. You winced a little, the skin still tender.
"It's pretty bad. I can heal it for you if you want."
"How?"
"Vampire saliva is pretty powerful."
Saliva?
"Do you want your neck to stop hurting?" Yoongi asked when you sat for too long without responding.
"Yes."
"Okay. Stay still."
He leaned in, the warm sensation of his tongue gliding up the side of your neck following seconds later. Heat spread across your cheeks at how intimate the situation seemed. A tingling sensation was felt on the wounded area just before Yoongi pulled away.
"There. All better."
You reached up and gingerly touched the place where the bite mark was, but you didn't feel it nor did it hurt anymore. You skin was completely smooth and free of any puncture marks.
"Thank you."
"It's the least I could do."
"Why didn't you do that while I was unconscious?" You asked out of curiosity.
"I still wasn't fully in my right mind when I brought you back here to patch you up. The wound was still fresh and I was afraid if I tried to heal you, I'd end up killing you instead. I didn't want to risk it."
"Ah." You nodded.
He stayed put on the edge of the bed while picking at his nails, hesitant to leave.
"You may have to stay another day. You know, so I can keep an eye on you and make sure you're alright."
"I think I'll be okay with that."
"You will?"
You gave a nod.
"Are you hungry?" He asked. "Do you need anything?"
"Now that you mention it, I am a little hungry."
"I'll get you whatever you're in the mood for. I'm not much of a cook, but if it's something that can be made at home, I'll try to make it."
"You don't need to do all that."
"Please." There was a hint of desperation in his tone. "It's the least I can do after what I did to you last night."
"You brought me back here, bandaged my wound, healed it, and you've apologized twice. You've done plenty."
He shook his head. "I won't feel better about this until you feel better."
"I didn't know vampires cared so much for their victims." You teased.
Yoongi chortled softly. "We're selective."
You cracked a smile, releasing a short laugh.
Yoongi's undead heart fluttered at how pretty you were when you smiled. He much preferred the happy and relaxed you as opposed to the one that was terrified of him. He was glad to no longer see that fear in your eyes.
"Oh." He realized you hadn't told him what you'd like to eat. If you were going to get your strength built back up, you needed nourishment. "What do you want to eat? Like I said, I'll do whatever. I'll attempt to cook it or I'll go pick it up."
You thought about it for a moment before giving Yoongi a response. The food you were craving needed to be picked up, but he didn't mind. In fact, he hurried off to go retrieve your meal almost as soon as you gave him an answer.
His eagerness was amusing. Vampires in stories and movies were always depicted as heartless creatures who had no remorse for the victims they killed. Yoongi wasn't like that. Guilt was written all over his face for the first few minutes he was in the room with you, and even when the atmosphere was less tense, he was still doing his best to make sure you were taken care of. He was so ready to make up for what he did last night that you were almost certain this wasn't a normal occurrence.
Yoongi returned home less than fifteen minutes after rushing out, your bag of food clutched in his hand.
Your face lit up when he walked into the bedroom and presented you with the bag. You gratefully took it, thanking him for going out to get it to which he merely shrugged.
"I'll let you eat your meal in peace." He turned to leave, walking towards the door.
"Wait."
He stopped, glancing over his shoulder.
"I wouldn't mind the company."
Yoongi was surprised by the offer you extended. Though you didn't outrightly state that you wanted him to stay, it was very much implied.
He moved to sit at the end of the bed while you pulled your food out.
"So, do you always bring your victims home and take care of them?" You asked, opening up the takeout container.
"No. This is the first time."
"I must be special or something." You chuckled, taking a bite of food.
"You are."
You stopped chewing, glancing over at him.
"I brought you here because I couldn't bear to leave you in the alley. The thought of it made my stomach twist with guilt." He admitted.
"But you left the other girl."
"She was drunk, anyway. Since I wiped her memory she'll just think she blacked out from drinking too much."
Your nail picked at the edge of the styrofoam container, silently processing his words.
"I don't understand. Why did you bring me here? What was so special about me?"
"I... thought you were pretty." The last part was said under his breath, but he was close enough for you to hear.
Before you could respond, he started rambling.
"I shouldn't have said anything. I'm sure I've made you uncomfortable and after what happened last night, I'm certain you're not interested. Plus, you don't even know me."
"That can be changed though."
Yoongi met your gaze, his brows pulling together.
"We can start as friends and just get to know each other."
"Friends." He echoed, nodding. "Okay."
"Good. Why don't you start? Tell me a little about yourself."
Yoongi started by telling you some of his hobbies, easing in with a light subject before getting into the heavier stuff like when he was first turned and how difficult it was to navigate his new life. He even let you ask questions, openly answering all of them. In turn, you shared a little bit about your own life.
You still didn't know Yoongi, but what little you had heard about him made you see that he was a decent guy and someone you wanted to continue to get acquainted with.
You'd be staying with Yoongi for at least another day so he could make sure you fully recovered, but who knows? Maybe you'd decide to stay a little longer.

part i. chapter 4. "I want to hear you moan."
THE TRUTH UNTOLD;
pairing: yoongi as a gumiho x oc btvs saein (moodboard) content disclaimer: smut. oral, fingering, both receiving, unprotected sex [don't do that unless you're a mythical creature pls.] note: this is basically an advanced first draft for a larger fic i hope to put on ao3 when it's completed, but i'm documenting how it progresses here and letting you peek. It means it's not as good, not proofread and the story is still woombly, but I hope you can still enjoy. summary: Saein, a Slayer, in her effort to get rid of a Gumiho, Yoongi, trapped him in this realm by accident. After proving himself to be harmless, the Slayer offers herself up to the Fox as nourishment, a bit too willingly might I add, knowing full well he has a special diet (psst: sex, it's sex, he feeds on pleasure). prev > chapter 1, chapter 2, chapter 3.
"He was close. She could feel it by the way his muscles were twitching, his breathing accelerating. Another attention of hers, the slip of her tongue on a sensitive part longer than the other and it came, what she had been waiting for, no, craving for: a moan.
Yoongi froze, biting his lip to pretend it wasn't his. But there was no denying it.
A lustful moan. His moan, let out against his will, closer to a growl but indistinguishably the melody of a moan nonetheless. In it, she heard the frustration of his loss and yet, equally, a pure relief and the contentment that comes of the releashment of control and self-restraint. Now, she remembered all too clearly why she even wanted it in the first place, and couldn't believe she thought anything less was enough. The thrill of it all, the sound of it all, made a thousand pins and needles ran along her spine."
***
Fifteen minutes later, they were sitting down on the floor around the tea table. Her, in nothing but that white tee-shirt he had lended her, him still fully dressed in that fancy black silky outfit.
The night had come down. Saein was slurping on the ramen he had placed in front of her. To her surprise, he was slurping on his as well.
"You can eat that?"
"Of course."
"I just assumed, since you're...," she gestured vaguely towards him. Saein was used to her little bloodsuckers who swore by nothing else but their red "o neg" juice and spat on the rest. Even Taehyung, as sweet as he was, frowned in disgust every time he saw them eat actual food. Nothing that had come from the Hellmouth had share noodles with her before.
Yoongi scratched the back of his neck as he mumbled "It doesn't actually fill me up, but you know, I can still taste it."
"Oh. That's nice."
He swallowed the food and his stare met back hers, amused. "Am I getting a little too human for you?"
Oh boy, after what he had just pulled, he was gonna try to claim she was running away? She held the stare and, with a sly smile, rose her chin, "Actually, I think I might be getting a little too freaky for you."
The word choice made him choke on his noodles.
"What does that mean?"
Saein sighed and put down her cup. "It means... That it's getting late, I've got to start patrolling in an hour. Slayer duties, cemeteries, all that."
The banter in him suddenly extinguished like a cold shower. He plopped back down against the sofa he was using as backrest, his attention suddenly absorbed by his cup.
"Well, I'm not holding you back, you can go," he said with a pout.
"I don't want to go."
He raised an unconvinced eyebrow.
The Slayer munched on her lower lip, without moving a muscle, thinking how to phrase what was on her mind. Eventually, she merely scooched closer, swallowing the distance between them to mere inches.
Her voice mellowed. "I wanna stay, but... If we're gonna keep going, and I want to, 'keep going', but as enjoyable as that was, I'm gonna need some - your cup is empty," she removed the cup from his incredulous hands and put it on the table without a look. "- reciprocity."
"Reciprocity?" The word struggled to come out of his throat, half strangled by the surprise.
"Hm, hm."
Without anything to fiddle with now, all he could do was stare at her in disbelief. Ever since that kiss... Hell, ever since she walked in that door.
"I-, I am giving plenty of reciprocity, I'm the king of reciprocity!" He could not have been more offended, he was a fantastic lover! Being a great lay was his whole shtick, a big part of the whole Gumiho package. It was how he fed! He had made her come twice with his fingers alone not even an hour ago, for crying out loud. He had felt how good she felt, she couldn't have faked that, right? She had a good time, right? The doubt was suddenly eating him inside.
"Great, then I want to hear you moan," she said.
His jaw dropped. How many times had he almost choked while she was calmly staring at him? All he could do was hide the shock behind a half-laugh, half scoff.
"Oh you-, you-"
She smiled. "What? Afraid of losing control, little fox?"
She knew she won the moment a pernicious glint appeared in his outraged and yet burning dark glare. In a flash, he gripped her waist and pulled her on his lap. Holding her against him firmly with one hand in her back, his index was holding her chin up while his eyes filled themselves with a new fire.
"Go on then, Slayer, make me."
_
Schblam.
Her back cracked open the cabinet as he slammed her into the wall. She barely felt it. Her legs wrapped around his waist, his hands on her butt, her back, her hair, everywhere. His mouth on her neck, jaw, lips. Closer, he wants her closer.
They were having a hard time finding their way back to the bed now that they were navigating blind, too busy making out, or more accurately devoring each other, to look up where they were in the room, destroying furniture in the blaze of their fury.
Master of this clumsy waltz, Yoongi had their two braided bodies swirling for a moment in the ether, the ocean of her mane unleashed in the air, only to make them crash again, the plaster wall pressed against her back. She weighed nothing in his arms, but once she had an hold to rest against, she was pulling him to her with the strength no human had.
The fusion of their scattered silhouettes melded with complicit mischief. Her thighs tightened around him to ensure her hold, while she was gripping the nape of his neck, her slender fingers lacing caresses of delicacy and furor at the fluctuating demands of her storming mind.
The tempest of their bodies raged.
In the lovely torpor that had lulled him since she took off that stupid leather jacket, Yoongi uncovered the dephth at which her favors were bewitching. In a world that had only felt like an arrid strange land since his arrival, with the exception of the occasional ice americano, she felt, in this instant, warm and welcoming in an intoxicating way. Almost primal.
Giving up on the bed, the Gumiho pinned her higher against the wall, to make sure her ass wouldn't fall on the ground, and to be able to free one his hand to cup her face and deepen the kiss, slowing it in a decisive pace, guiding it beyond the teasing manners they had kept it at in their hurry, pressing in with a confused-by-how-good-that-felt frown as the flow of her pleasure slowly rose and sizzled and turned into pure blue energy when it slid in his veins.
Saein was drunk on him. It felt like she just took an entire line of vodka shots of pure him in a matter of minutes, and then went to do vaults to make sure it got straight to her head. He felt everywhere, pressing her up with the mere weight of his body, and he felt good. Too good. The promise, the challenge, it was all a distant memory. But not quite forgotten yet. As he imperceptibly went for air for a second, the Slayer got a hold of herself for just long enough to remember.
And bit his bottom lip.
"Not," he shut her up with another, lighter kiss, "holding up," his tongue teased hers, "your end of," she got lost momentarily, shutting herself up for a second, bringing him closer to feast on the lips he was urging on hers so eagerly, moving her up and down at the will of their heavy breathing, until he was the one adventuring himself along her jawline, and down her neck. She could feel his hand holding her partly on her thigh, molding part of her ass in a not-so-innocent way. It would be the easiest thing to lose herself in his touch. To let him lead again. If he can play with that tongue like that everywhere...
But she had other appetites.
Abruptly, she turned his head to bite on his ear, gently pulling on his earrings with her teeth and whispered with menace, "the bargain."
She didn't see his eyes flutter at the sudden touch, nor could have guessed the shiver that had stroke him all the way down. Yoongi escaped it, and her complains, by carrying her to the desk, sitting her down on it brutally, sending papers flying and a lamp crashing down, and started to partake on the nook of her neck while his hands were all over her breast and hips.
"Don't know what you mean."
Fuck, he's good.
Maybe if it hadn't been after the bath, maybe if it hadn't been after that kiss on the bed, maybe if she hadn't need the escapism like a drug, only maybe then it would have been easier to push him off her.
His breath alone was making her delicate skin quiver, her back bent towards his ivory-fleshed torso, so immersed in the hymn of their frenzy, that, one by one, her senses shivered and marvelled.
That's dangerous.
Call it ego, or stupidity, Saein suddenly pushed him off with a kick, sending him two steps away from her.
They stared at each other, still panting. Yoongi, worried for a second that he crossed a line, was looking at her face to figure where her mind was at but all he found was her checking him out shamelessly, still dripping in lust.
His black hair were as messy as could be, falling in curls above his wandering eyes. His shirt was holding on to a thread and revealed the sculpted torso she had starved for, and, lastly, the bulge in his pants had grown in a much promising way.
The sight made her lips stretch in a sly smile. She tilted her head.
"Reciprocity, remember?"
Without letting him answer, she jumped down from the desk and, rising on her tiptoes to reach high enough, grasped the rebellious locks of the ebony ocean of his tousled hair, tugged on the hold to resume the salacious dance of their mouths. Their noses meeting once more, brushing, fleeing, finding each other again, crashing when her top lip was teasing his bottom. Eager mouths learning to savor one another yet never imprisoned.
All the while, she was guiding him with command backwards across the room until his legs gave in under the couch and made him fall on it.
There, in front of him, the divine siren kneeled.
When her fingers ran up along his thighs, he swallowed hard, and she surprised herself at how adorable she found him and his disastrous inability to hide his emotions. That's not what she expected when she got there. Saein had been under the impression that Gumiho would be much more, hm, blasés, about it all, sex being part of their five fruits and vegetables a day type of food pyramid. Every single obvious pleasure wave she rose in him only duplicated ten fold hers.
She was barely brushing over the fabric of his pants up along his inner thigh that he had stopped looking at her, searching some elusive answer on the ceiling, but couldn't hide his shivering.
"Does that feel good?" she said, sheepishly.
He let out a silent protest that felt very much like a how-dare-you-be-right and raised his eyebrows. "Is that your attempt at... recriprocity?" he said, with a lot of aplomb for someone she had now a good view for how aroused he actually was, and would not take her eyes off of it, feeding on her own anticipation.
He was only wearing light black pants, barely a button and a zipper in her way. The silky shirt had already flown away some time during their trip around the living room.
"Is that permission to attempt?" Her fingers slid to mere inches towards the bulge. She knew she was torturing him, and she wouldn't say she didn't take great pleasure in it. It was, after all, a walk in the parc compared to what he did to her (to note: yoongi does not agree with that).
He laughed. "To attempt..." and as he laughed she could see him visibly relax, sinking in the coach a little more with a chucle.
For the second time, the word 'adorable' popped up in her mind. Which she quickly whisked away, what the hell is wrong with you, Saein? There were little of the Gumiho in his demeanor at this moment, and so much of the Yoongi that introduced himself prior to everything. The sweet, a bit confounding but confident Yoongi, the one that had pulled on her heart strings. The one she had now assumed was only the product of the ruse of a clever fox. Don't fall for the trick, not when you already pulled the veil
Yoongi was fighting his own battle. Why wouldn't he let her attempt? What was he so afraid of? Showing weakness? Or ... enjoying himself? Yes, yes, that exactly, answered a little voice from the depth of his subconscious. Truth is, he didn't want to fight it. For once, he wanted to surrender.
He exhales out. "Yeah, yeah it is. Permission."
"Good," she nearly purred.
A swear crossed his lips when he felt her fingers began to remove the barriers of his pants, sliding the zipper down and popping open the button. His pupils widened when she planted a thieving kiss above the elastic waist, and ... started making her way ... back up? Kissing his abdomen, lacing over his hipbone, his chest, and completely disregarding where he thought this was going. Was that disappointment?
Against all of his expectations, her nibbling mouth made her way fast, lingered just enough to lick his jugular, before she found his lips again. Hiding his dismay as much to her as to himself, Yoongi eagerly responded, hoping to fall back on their already established pattern, but this kiss was different.
Saein gave him no ground to stand firm on, no disillusions of chastity or shyness. Her tongue had a will and a purpose, and Yoongi could do nothing but submit to the venereal appetite of it. He was getting properly inebriated on her aphrodisia.
But Saein had not given up.
The moment she felt him lose himself in her again, loosening up in her embrace and familiar territories, her thumb came to tease and eventually replace her kiss. With it, she drew the rim of his lips with the care of an artist carving her own Galatea, her irises coating themselves with a hazy nitescence. His mouth was watering with an ambrosial bewilderment as the touch awakened a million tickles. Content with his response, her nose crashed further into him, her mouth right behind her thumb that she pressed further, beyond the rim of his pearly teeth and coated her digit with his saliva. To have her finger playing gently with his tongue and bottom lip, so vulnerable in between his wolf jaw that he could snap it off her anytime but there was no illusion on who was the submissive party in this instant. How the trust she was lending him only turned into authorisation from his to be molded into anything she wanted to.
She removed her thumb, applying more his saliva on his lips, mimicking another kiss with it before leaning back. Without breaking eye contact - he couldn't have even if he wanted to, completely transfixed on the confidence and playfulness that was oozing from her - she brought her index into her own mouth, carefully licking on it in a evocative movement. Then added the middle one, and the ring finger.
Shiii- The Fox's mind was blank. Nearly drooling. You could say it was fingerlicking good. (sorry)
Entranced, he should have easily guessed what her next step would be but he was still under the remnants of the feeling of her thumb taking hold of him.
Without more ceremony, her prepared fingers traced back down between his legs and slipped under the trousers and underwear she had already opened up in advance. His heated limb welcomed her with a shiver and a proof it had been preparing itself for her, coated in its own moist, moving with a will despite being still half trap in the constraint of the clothes.
The sudden wave of pleasure, relief, and exhilaration collided in a muffled mumble that came near to giving her preemptivaly what she yearned for. And, by the way her smile grew against his mouth, she knew it. Calm down, Min Yoongi.
Under her wandering hands, it didn't take long until she felt his frame tensing to the extreme. Everywhere. And especially where it interested her.
His hands gripped down to the hollow of her back, having reached under the tee-shirt hiding all of her divine curves, while hers were gliding over what they had, by all means, forged and that she finally freed to grow in the open air. The motion of her kiss matched the rhytmic movement she applied on his groin. It seemed that, impervious to the silent battle he was waging with himself, his anatomy had decided to take the lead in a more than demonstrative and virile way as she worked in a lascious manoeuvre.
Already, however, her fingers did not feel enough. Her kiss was becoming sloppy as her attention was elsewhere, and his too. Feeling the growth, even as his soft and moist and hard skin were throwbing between her digits, that was not enough. She wanted to see it. To feel it, differently, fully.
With one last light kiss, she let go. Fell down to her knees and started her descent to the desired spot. It was a mess. She had a mess of him. And it was glorious. It was glorious. Leaking, everywhere, ruining his pants, pink and wide, carved beautifully in purple veins and ornated below with his charged jewels. How could her fingers ever hoped to take care of all of this alone? Well actually, she already had ideas but it would be for another time (another time, Saein? Oh, shut up).
If the Slayer wasn't such an experimented girl, she might have had felt some shyness about how wet her mouth got just looking at this. It didn't escape her, nonetheless, how the appendix had grown even harder at the mere fact she was looking at it, and when her gaze rose to Yoongi's face, it was nowhere to be found, hidden away behind his forearm.
She kissed it, at first, right on the tip. To taste it. The sweet saltiness. Yoongi nigh on growled. Fine, time to end the tease. For both of them. Her fingers laced around the base for stability and her mouth, after drooling on it slightly, tackled the lovely task with great... great skill, it must be said.
Her deep chocolate locks flowing from side to side across her mischievous head as her nimble little hands busied themselves and her lips were redoubling the ardor her fingers had shown.
It is out of a misguided and prideful desire not to crack too soon, and maybe a fear to admit defeat that the Fox was trying his darnest to hold back the sounds of rapture that were rushing in, begging to be released, letting instead a flow of curses escape under his breath. His attempt at hiding the effect she had couldn't dissolve the unreasonable craving taking control of his panting body. On the contrary, every attention on her part heightened his debauchery.
He felt her wet rim slide to the most sensitive places, in a perfect pace, and another expletive escaped from his tongue. How the fuck did he end up here? He felt the grip of her hands, the watery warmth of her swallowing him whole as he threw his head back in abandon. Everything was spinning around him all at once. The ceiling was barely in focus anymore. There was his own pleasure building up, but there were hers as well that was not dying down, as he had expected, only mixing up with his. He was so dizzy he had to close his eyes.
She was feeling his muscles jolting under her touch. His sighs gave cadence to her movements. His body was the perfect indicator of the impact of her caresses on his manhood, guiding her, teaching her unknowingly his weaknesses.
Saein could hardly be more pleased with herself. If only her pretty face was not so busy, she would have the biggest grin to the point she had completely forgotten her original claim, while he was still so focused on it, losing his mind to not concede: to make him moan. The intermittent breathing of his torso formed waves above her, the way she could hear him struggling to contain himself as she continued to take hold of his intimacy was all she needed in her book. She had him squirming and driven crazy. She had already won
At least, that's what she thought until it came.
He was close.
The thrill of it all, the sound of it all, made a thousand pins and needles ran along her spine.
As of now, she knew she would only need one or two more back and forths to get him to his paroxysm. She wanted to get him there so badly. She wanted to hear those moans rain in her ears. But before she could enact it, she felt two large hands grab her shoulders and pin her down on the carpet.
His eyes were more predatory than human, lit with a crazed, contagious flame.
"I want you," he groaned.
"Oh, fuck." Me.
He must seem like a wild beast when she looked at him. But her eyes were responding with a similar avidity. Therefore, when she reached for him, the Fox joined her without waiting.
Covering her slender body, he plunged his head into her warm skin. With a few deft movements, he stripped off her of that damn T-shirt, strewing her chest with tormented kisses. His hands ran along her hips and cheeks again, as he nestled in the hollow of her neck, then her breast. He felt the shiver under his roving hands that grabed on the lingerie and pulled it down with such a rush it made the delicacy he had shown in the bathroom seem like another reality.
His shell were covering hers as he nibled on her nipples but not as long as he wished, despite the encouraging whine of the beneficiary. His mind was clouded by another need, quickly descending to place a thousand kisses on her belly, only to reach with victory the hollows of her already wet legs.
Without giving her time to protest, which didn't even graze her mind, he had his head between her thighs, and his tongue on a frenzy quest.
Saein, unlike him, made no effort to hold back any moan. As his tongue began sending her where she was already reaching for a long time now, all of her attempt of control was focused on not coming right here right now, and damn the volume she was showing instead. She would not last long under the furrows of his goddamn, jesus, what the, talented motherfucker, tongue against her.
Her feet crossed behind his back, her thighs resting on his shoulders as he applied himself with devorous passion, only helped otherwise by two crouched fingers in her heat moving in and out, pressing on, exploring what made her tick, and finding many, many tresures, while his other arm was still reaching for her tit, unable to forsake it, playing absent mindlessly with it, driving her crazy by the overstimulation.
Her hips arched in a convulsive movement, ravaged by an unexpected fire, unaccustomed to grazing the seventh heaven in such a brief lapse of time. Too fast, too much. After everything, she didn't know if she could ride another after this. And Saein refused to end it this way.
The moment she felt herself reach too high of a high, and felt him notice it and driving her there, she swiftly escaped, pushing him off.
He looked at her in disbelief, as if she had taken away his food from him. And she kind of did.
"Who's afraid of losing control now?"
"Oh, shut up."
She climbed over him, making him stumble back on his elbows. The assignment was clear the moment she straddled him. Yet, despite all that thirst that were blurrying any other thoughts, he stopped her. "Condom?"
"On the pill."
"I don't contract human diseases."
"Love doing business with you."
Once this little necessity settled, she pushed him back on the floor, forcing him to lie down compltely on his back. She barely gave him time to react, as she angled her pelvis into his hard-on, one hand on his torso for balance, another on his hipbone. They echanged one meaningfull look before Saein impaled herself on him with a lustful swear. His jaw snapped back, his lips parted.
His considerable width deliciously furrowed in her sensitive furnace, throwbing against her twitching walls, filling her up inches after inches until it could no more. Her eyes rolled all the way back when he reached that floor.
For once, they were both in complete agreement of never admitting how they felt in this very moment. More intimate than ever, and yet refusing to even glance in the face of the other by fear of what they might find.
She started moving. With an acute care now that she had fully grasped what she was working with, relaxing and merging into it, trying not to get overboard and melting into how he pressed against all the right spots already, spots that were already teased beyond reason.
Maybe doing this minutes after grazing the orgasm was a mistake.
When she drew back only to move back in, deeper, Yoongi let out a gasp that he stifled by biting his lip. She felt too damn good. As if she was molded for him. Squishing his tender self to its paramount with no care in the world for how she was edging him.
An unstable assemblage of 'I want more' and 'get the fuck over yourself, Min Yoongi.' It's a mess in his head. Between his thighs. In his chest. And those ecstatic sighs she was letting out. And so did he.
He who thought he'd take, is taken. He knew he had lost control, and he didn't care. Sort of. Certainly not right now.
All egos had melted away in the blazing of their desire that only rose, and rose, and rose. With a low moan, he accompanied her languorous movements, as her face contorted, his hands gripping her waist, by lifting his pelvis and filling her up with a quick and strong thrust as deep as she could take him and watched her whiper under it with delight.
The last remnants of his decline slowly cracked as he let himself be swept away, as she pressed back and forth, taking her revenge in his own voice cracking now that he ne longer attempted to control it. The only reason they both didn't immediately came was this competition on who will crack first.
Taking advantage of a second of weakness on her part, Yoongi reversed the role in a grunt and flipped her over on the rug. On the next thrust, he leaned over her, kissing her, and swaying her finely crafted figure back. One hand planted in the floor by her head, he accelerating his desperate, raging thrusts. The longer he went on, the less suave he became. More aggressive. More relentless.
He waited for her to plunge first, he was The Gumiho after all. He had his pride. He heard the sounds of pleasure pressing through her throat faster and faster. His skin slapping against hers barely audible among her exclamations, as a litany of fuck fuck fuck fuck escaped her. The orgasm took her the second the dam she had been holding with all her strenght breached and crumbled. It only took his teeth grapping over her bottom lip to let it all go in a huge wave, and the culmination of all her overheating senses to curl her toes all the way to the seventh heaven. Saein could swear she saw angels and bells there.
Over her, he was gripping his knuckles white on the low table as her pleasure morphed into energy, once again, and had steadily grown as if it was electricity, wave by wave, suddenly flew in his skin like a thunderbolt, knocking the air out of him. What she felt, he felt. On top of what he was already fighting against. There was no sense resisting anymore. All the ebullition that had built in him bursted into her welcoming heat. Yoongi came in her, with only enough common sense not to crash down in her while poured himself with abandonment, ferosity and solace until it hurt to stay there.
He collapsed at her side. His hair stuck on his sweaty forehead, his pant still around one ankle, and incredibly, extraordinarily full.
Her strength left her the moment the orgasm calmed down in what she could only describe as peaceful quiet. It had been the first time in months that she did not think about monsters and end of the world matters. Her mind was completely free, only concerned with the ecstasy over her sweaty body. She could get used to this.
For a while, they just stood there, on the soiled carpet, staring at the ceiling, while their breathing steadied and sweaty beyond belief.
"So... Did it work?"
"Hmm?"
"Did you feed?"
She turned her glowing face to him. He found the detail of the carpentry fascinating. "Hm, hm," he confirmed. Oh, did he feed.
"Really? I didn't feel anything," she sounded disappointed as she perked up on a elbow. He looked tired, glowing, content, although also a little abashed, avoiding her gaze. Flushed and human, but she wouldn't dare say that. "So, are you like, full?"
"I am..." He smacked his lips with his tongue before slowly grinning. "For now."

Tear You Apart JHS & MYG
Synopsis - While out clubbing you meet two very friendly strangers. (Part 5 of the Monster Series)
Pairing - Yandere! Dark! Vampire! Min Yoongi & Jung Hoseok x AFAB! Reader
Featuring - Issa Rae and Hunter Schafer
Tags and Warnings - Death, Hypnosis, Vampire stuff, abduction
Authors Note - One more fic in the series!!!
“This club fucking sucks!!” Issa yelled over the sound the loud club music. So far the night was filled with bad shots, creepy men, and all around bad music. And you agreed, this club was literally the last place you wanted to be.
Hunter stood next to you on her phone looking for literally anywhere else to go. She let out a loud gasp and stuffed her phone between both you and Issa. “Guys! There's that new club downtown! It looks like it's gothic themed! Certainly they know how to party.” Issa raised a brow at the suggestion.
“Girl, we aren't goths.” Issa says simply.
“Yeah she's right, literally we'll stick out like a sore thumb.” You added.
“Attention! Duh. Listen we can stay here and get harassed by jocks or we meet some new people at the new vampire goth club. Which will it be?” Hunter said raising both hands. You rolled your eyes and smiled.
“So your saying that instead of bringing home douche bags we bring home goths?” Issac said her eyes seemingly thinking. “Checks out with me, how about you girl?”
You looked at Issa and rolled your eyes jokingly. “Fine, let's go!”
🦇
“Shit this place rocks!” Hunter said. You all went back to your shared apartment to at change into more darker clothes and makeup. Yet you all still stuck out like sore thumbs.
Yet this worked as Issa had already found some guy who interested her and you and Hunter danced with a group of girls. Bauhaus echoed in the background as you moved across the floor practically drifting aimlessly. However you would make eye contact with two men who stood on the wall watching you. Their gazes were sharp, but you brushed it off and kept dancing.
Hunter tapped your shoulder and you turned around. “Hey can you go get us some drinks?” She said dancing with you. Giving her a small smile, you nodded and headed to the red lit bar. You order two Bloody Marys, which you found somewhat hilarious to be served. You stood at the bar waiting patiently but were startled by a hand on your shoulder.
“You've never been to a goth club I bet.” One of them said smirking.
“Jesus! You both scared the shit out of me.” You said trying to catch your breath. The one with darker hair laughed and smiled.
“Sorry! We just got curious, your fashion is just not what you'd see here usually.” He continued. His friend kept looking at you, blinking rarely. You looked back at him but then returned to speaking with the main friend.
“And how do you know that huh? I could frequent these clubs a lot.”
“You don't trust me. You have that lost look in your eyes. Shit I forgot to introduce myself I'm Hoseok. And he's Yoongi.” You took Hoseoks hand, but shuddered at how cold his skin was. You pulled away laughing awkwardly. It almost drained you, touching him.
Then the drinks you were supposed to give Hunter slid in front of you. Taking them you almost nodded them both off but were stopped by Yoongi stepping in front of you.
“Aw you're leaving? Before you got one of our numbers?” Yoongi said snickering, surprising you that he would even speak to you. He took a sharpie from a nearby jar and wrote his number on your arm. “You should invite us over when you're not the ‘sober companion’” He added snickering. You didn't tell him that at all so you just nodded and stepped away.
You were going to clean that sharpie off your arm immediately.
🦇
Turns out that soon would arrive quicker than expected, as not even a week later you walked into your apartment to see Yoongi, Hoseok, Issa, and Hunter hanging out in the living room. The girls seemed intoxicated or in a daze as they were glad naked and dancing in front of them.
You stepped back and turned around walking out of the door and trying to close it quietly. You'd just return tomorrow, it wasn't your place to question the beginning of what was happening. Letting out a sigh you began to almost walk away.
That was until you were yanked into the house the door locking behind you.
“Hey!!” Hunter drunkenly yelled hiccuping as she grabbed both of your arms harshly. Shed never been this strong, in fact she was quiet weak compared to you. “Come on now the party was missing you!” She slurred practically dragging you to the living room. Her eyes had a weird cloudy look to them. You couldn't get a good look as she pushed you onto the couch in between the men.
Almost immediately Yoongis hand went to your thigh. You shivered but didn't move as Hunter and Issa drunkenly collapsed on the love seat. With a snap of Hoseoks fingers, they became sleepier and drowsier. Until they were both asleep. “Let us go!” You yelled struggling against Yoongis harsh grip on your thigh.
“You don't want that do you? You never texted us you know… broke poor Yoongis heart.” Hoseok spoke to you in a babyish voice. Yoongis head fell on your shoulder, him almost purring at your warm skin on his own cold one. “It's almost a rightful punishment, eye for a eye.”
“What even are you guys…?” You questioned but got your answer as you felt two sharp spikes poke at your neck. You tried to push away but Hoseok grabbed your chin forcing you to look at him. Your body fell in a trance as the pain of Yoongis fangs entering your body was dull and almost non existent.
Hoseok connected your lips, passionately kissing you. His fangs grazed your bottom lip, giving quiet moans into your mouth. “We thought you were so beautiful… and the fact that you're also a virgin… that made you even sexier.” Yoongi mumbled against your neck. He sucked at your skin peppering kisses on the bite. He licked it and pulled away. “She's so fucking good. Virgin blood, it's always so good… Come get a taste.”
Hoseok pulled away from your mouth as he went to your chest, taking a bite at your collarbone. Hoseok began to suck, this time the pain hurting. You hissed feeling your life almost drain away. Your eyes stared at your friends, seeing as they've already been drained. Bite marks littered their bodies and yet you couldn't even do anything about it as you're now their victims. Yoongi took Hoseoks arm and pulled at it making Hoseok pull away. “Don't kill her, I want to keep her…” Yoongi mumbled his body now falling on your thighs, kissing at them. The horror of your blood, turning into kiss marks on your body terrified you.
“I wasn't going to I swear. I just got lost in it all… sorry.” Hoseok said quietly. “So we're bringing her back right?” Yoongi nodded eagerly. And Hoseok kissed your lips again, as he snapped your body going limp. Your vision clouded as you laid against Hoseoks body. His hand went to your hair, stroking fondly.
“What about them?” Yoongi says pointing at Hunter and Issa. Hoseok shrugged and kept his focus on comforting you, yet you couldn't even see what was happening. But you began to cry, silently your lips trembling. Hands went to wipe your tears by what you could assume was Hoseok. You didn't even hear nor see your friends fate by you did feel Yoongi come near you again. “It's okay, we got you… we'll take care of you baby… we just have to tear you apart and rebuild you.”

𝓓𝓸 𝓡𝓮 𝓜𝓲 [Intro]
They say it only takes one bite for a vampire to get addicted.
Tags/Warnings: Vampire!Yoongi, Vampire!Jungkook, Human!Reader, Angst, poly AU, emotional confusion, blood (duh), did I mention Angst, fluff, romance, drama
Length: 3k words I think
There is no taglist for this fic!
A/N: Hi yes I wrote this somewhat drunk at a barbecue restaurant guys pls I didn't check ANY grammar this time
🩸.━━━━━━━━━━.🔴.━━━━━━━━━━━.🩸
Jungkook never wanted this life. He never chose to be like this, never made the same mistakes Yoongi did when he was younger. So even to this day, Yoongi sometimes feels a certain sense of pity for the young man.
Yoongi got infected when he was not even twenty years old. He chose the risk- knew what could happen if he was to participate in underground blood trading. But he needed the money. He needed to survive. And back then, even now, the quickest way to make a lot of money, is by offering your blood.
It didn't even take a month until he noticed the first signs of infection.
Fatigue, loss of sensation in hands and feet, odd food cravings and night sweats. It turned into cramps, dizziness, headaches and migranes, soon to be followed by nausea and the inability to really function anymore. He couldn't concentrate on anything. He couldn't live like this.
When he was sent to the ER by a roommate of his, back then, he already knew what would happen. And later that night, he was diagnosed.
Vampirism.
Yoongi wasn't surprised. Neither was Seokjin, his roommate, who knew what he had done to gain the money he needed to fund his survival. It didn't surprise anyone.
Everything changed.
He had to carry a specific passport of some sorts with him from then on, one that would hold all information regarding his condition, blood donations, everything. Even criminal records- though to this day, Yoongi has never had anything written down like that in his booklet. He's a calm one- or so the nurses say whenever he visits the donation center to receive his monthly donation.
Yoongi actually worked as an introductory patient here and there- helping new donors who feel scared of donating blood to someone with vampirism for the first time.
It's how he met Jungkook.
jungkook got infected only two years ago- by a now former lover, who never told him that she carried the infectious disease. She had promised, assured him that she wasn't carrying the active variant of vampirism- but that she instead was a 'sleeper', unable to infect other people by bite. And with jungkook so in love and trusting, he had believed her.
She had almost killed him, Yoongi now knows. Had almost murdered the young man who had done nothing to ever deserve to be used like that.
Today, Jungkook trusts again. Jungkook is happy again- he smiles, and grins, and loves everything around him again. Well- or so he would, if he could.
"Maybe today.." Yoongi offers, helping his now partner up the small set of stairs into the donation center. "I'm sure they'll have something for you today." he mutters, though he doesn't really believe it himself.
It's been months.
It happened almost three months prior, when suddenly no blood donation seemed to improve Jungkook's situation anymore. He just got sicker and sicker, like Yoongi when he was first infected and refused to get help or seek treatment- but for Jungkook, there was no treatment. The only thing they could do was test out other blood types-
but nothing worked.
And today, he waits again. Hour after hour, Jungkook already asleep on his shoulder in the waiting room, patient after patient being called in and leaving again-
but no one calls his name.
🩸.━━━━━━━━━━.🔴.━━━━━━━━━━━.🩸
You almost trip as you walk into the waiting room, apologizing silently to the people sitting down close by. There's an elderly lady, a mother with a young child- and two young men, one of them sleeping against the shoulder of his friend next to him, who seems to anxiously type away on his phone.
"Ah yes, we got your blood results today.." the nurse says, typping through some things before her eyes widen. "Let me just.. uh- let me ask something real quick, yeah? I'll be right back!" she rushes out, walking into a different room with some papers she'd printed out, leaving you a bit concerned with yourself as you stand there, next to where the two young men sit. One of them groans a bit, as if in pain- and you now notice how pale he is, sweat covering his forehead.
"I know, I'm sorry.." the man next to him sighs, watching how his friend's face scrunches up for a moment. "Fuck this." he suddenly mumbles, waking his friend up. "hey- Jungkook, come. I'll figure out something better." he says, helping his friend stand-
though he trips, falls right into you, who barely manages to keep him upright.
"Fuck- sorry, He's harmless." The man next to him apologises, and you wave him off.
"No problem." you say, keeping your hands close to the young man you now know is named Jungkook, who seems to almost lean into your touch, hazily turning his face towards you- eyes a deep cherry red.
"Vampirism?" you say, and the man next to him clicks his tongue.
"he's harmless." he repeats, as if you just insultet Jungkook- which you didn't actually intend to do.
"Oh, no no I didn't mean it badly!" you say, earning the gaze of the stranger on you. "just surprised, is all. Will he be okay?" You worry, and the man sighs.
"...yeah." he simply says. "I'll figure something-"
"Mister Min!" the nurse who just talked to you comes out the room, waving some papers. "We have a match!" She smiles, and mister Min next to you suddenly seemed to have turned 180 degrees- because now he looks almost cute, with wide open, round eyes and slightly parted lips. "miss, if you would follow me?" she says, and you nod, walking after her- mister Min and Jungkook right behind you.
"Oh, so he needed a donation?" you wonder, looking at a struggling Jungkook.
"Yes, his body has rejected all other blood options we've had." the nurse informs you, and you hum.
"Will she have enough?" Mister min from behind you mumbles, helping his friend walk. "Have you donated before?" he asks you almost as if to accuse you, and you shake your head, a bit nervous now.
"no- like, no I never donated, I don't know how much blood you give at these appointments." you say sheepishly, and the nurse opens a door down the hall before she steps aside to have you all walk in.
"for first-timers, we typically don't take too much blood." she explans, motioning her hand for you to sit down on a chair that looks awfully similar to the one's at the dentist. "So don't worry." she smiles.
"but-" you ask, watching Jungkook mostly fall into the chair next to you. "won't he need more than just a bit?" you worry, and the nurse sighs.
"anything will help." she tries to reassure, earning a glare from mister Min. "your donation is important either way."
"I'd like to give as much as I can." you say, determined- earning a surprised look from mister min- and even Jungkook seems to move his head to look at you with tired eyes. "I don't have anything else to do today, and the day off tomorrow. And I feel great!" you proudly exclaim. "I did all the stuff the clinic sent me- like, eat healthy, do regular sports, all that." you announce happily, and you could swear that Jungkook looks almost-
as if he wants to smile.
"we'll see how you do, okay?" the nurse says, a hand on your shoulder. "you can tell me to stop at any time, no shame in it." she makes sure to tell you, and you nod as you watch her leave for a moment.
"you don't have to do this." Mister Min says. "like she says, even the beginner amount is enough." he mumbles, but you shake your head.
"no, it's fine." you reassure them. "I wanna help. He looks like he really needs it." you joke a bit softly, watching Jungkook quietly bow a little. "are you guys close friends?" you wonder, and Mister Min scoffs.
"oh- Oh! I didn't know!" you laugh. "It must be hard to watch your partner suffer like that." you say, and he nods.
"somewhat." he says. "we've been together for.. two years now." he says, and watches how you seem to turn a bit red at that.
"I didn't know what to do." he confesses. "I'm.. thank you. For doing this." Mister min tells you. "he never chose this, so I'm glad you can help him for now until we can figure out something long term." he says.
"Oh I can keep donating!" you say. "I'm not scared of needles and stuff. See?" you point towards your ears, which are both heavily pierced with pink and silver jewelry. "I don't mind coming here regularly."
"you don't have to." Mister Min says again.
"I know." you say. "but I want to." you tell him almost teasingly, and he cant help but smile to himself a little.
reassured.
When the nurse comes back in, and sets everything up, you're still calm. "Blood pressure is nice." the nurse says to herself, writing something down. "we'll monitor how your body behaves during this donation, just to stay safe." she informs you, connecting some things. "and we'll monitor him, to make sure he doesn't fall into a blood-rush." she reassures you, and you nod, a bit unsure.
"what's a blood rush?" you wonder, and she nods.
"Sometimes, if people infected with the sleeping variant of vampirism, a blood donation can trigger the disease to 'wake', so to say. It could become active in that case, and would cause his body to go into shock." she explains, wiping a spot on Jungkook's arm with a disinfectant wipe before she places a needle there so he can receive the donation. "It's also why we won't let him.. reiceive the donation normally. We have to monitor and control how much exactly he receives." she explains. "because he might not be able to control his hunger."
"oh." you simply say, nodding.
"he won't go berserk and try to eat you." Mister min clarifies, glaring at the nurse. "but it's like refeeding syndrome in a human. You can't just give a starving person a buffet and expect them to only eat a bowl of soup." he tells you.
"yeah, that makes sense." you nod, cringing a bit when the needle is pinched into your arm as well.
For a good while, it's silent as you get comfortable, looking at the ceiling lights while you feel how your arm weakens a little. Meanwhile next to you, Jungkook seems to breathe deeper, stronger, color returning to his complexion.
"So.. what do you work as?" you wonder, a bit awkward as you look at Mister Min. "you don't have to answer.. just.. the silence is kind of weird." you giggle, and he nods.
"I guess." he agrees. "I'm a producer. I make music." he offers, and you nod, lips parted. He catches himself staring at them for just a second.
"Oh that's so cool." you smile brightly. "I always wanted to do somehing with art too, when I was younger. But my dad thought that was stupid, so he didn't allow me to go study it." you say, and Yoongi can spot the way you seem to grow a little more tired now.
"What did you do instead?" he wonders, speaks softly, gentle, as he watches you.
"hm, at first I studied finance and stuff. Because my dad wanted me to." you explain. "I always aimed for his praise, but I realized years into my studies that it wasn't worth the effort. So I dropped out." you shrug. "Now I'm an author, for like, fantasy novels. They're pretty embarrassing though, I won't lie." you giggle. "I work as a waitress on the side. To have enough to live comfortably, you know?" you mumble now, and the nurse chimes up.
"Can you sit up a bit for me?" she asks you, and you nod, doing as she says. "your blood pressure is dropping a little. How do you feel?" she checks in, and you look over at Jungkook, who takes in a deep breath as if for the first time.
"I'm fine." you smile with your gaze on him. "I think I just got a bit too comfortable in the chair." you giggle, and Yoongi watches.
You're odd.
"Hmhm-" she hums in approval. "we'll stop in a few minutes to not overwhelm him. You're doing great, miss." she praises, and you nod happily.
"Do you have someone to drive you home?" mister Min asks, and you shake your head.
"I'll take public transport." you inform him, but he shakes his head.
"I can drive you. That's safer." he offers, and you shrug, before nodding when the nurse gets up to clip up the narrow tube connected to Jungkook's arm, waking him up it seems like.
He blinks a couple of times, before he rubs his eyes, like things are too bright for a moment. His arm is free of the needle, as he looks around, at Yoongi- then at you. It's like he just woke up- his eyes finally open, his posture a lot straighter, and while he's still a bit pale, he doesn't look as bad as before.
"nice to meet you." you joke, slurring your words a little as you hiss when the nurse accidentally removes the needle too fast.
"Nice to meet you too." Jungkook answers for the first time-
voice gentle, and forever ingraved into your mind.
🩸.━━━━━━━━━━.🔴.━━━━━━━━━━━.🩸
You're yawning in the back of his car as Yoongi drives through the busy town, having received your adress earlier from you. "How do you feel?" he asks Jungkook next to him.
"hungry." he laughs. "honestly, I've not felt this good in a while. Like I can breathe again." he chuckles, before looking back, watching you in the mirror of the car- his eyes smiling at you when you smile back, sleepily leaning against the car door next to you. "You really didn't have to go all out for me." he says back at you, but you wave him off.
"nah, It's fine." you reassure. "I'm a big girl, I can handle it!" you joke, and Jungkook laughs in the front, shaking his head. You seem really bubbly and energetic- well when you're not all exhausted from donating blood, that is. And you also make him taste a bit of a bitter aftertaste- because you seem just like him, before he was so harshly kicked in the gut by his ex partner. So trusting, helpful, selfless. He hopes you won't have to make the same experiences that he's had to go through in the past.
You don't deserve that.
"Do you live alone?" Yoongi asks from the front- you've finally gotten his name a few minutes before. You nod, and he seems to think a little. "Will you be okay?" he asks, and you nod again- stubborn as ever, it seems like. "why did I even ask.." he sighs a little playfully, making Jungkook laugh from the passenger seat.
"Can I maybe have your number?" Jungkook asks. "Just to check in with you. If that's okay." he asks, and you nod, pulling out your phone to have him type in his number into your contacts.
Yoongi kind of wishes he was this bold too. But maybe that's where Jungkook fits him well- makes up for his own shortcomings.
"I'll probably leave you on read for the entire day today though" you laugh when you get your phone back. "I'm absolutely beat." you giggle, and Jungkook nods.
"I can only imagine." he watches you a bit, when Yoongi pulls into a parking lot in front of the tall apartment complex you live in.
"Home sweet home!" you exclaim, stretching your arms before you open the door. "thanks for bringing me home. I'll see you next month!" you joke, and both men say their goodbyes as you close the door behind you, walking towards the entrance of the apartment complex before you dissappear behind the door.
And in secret silence, as Jungkook and Yoongi drive home, both can't help but wonder.
Why does next month sound way too far away?

HOUSE OF THE RISING RED.
" for them, eternity could last an hour, and an hour infinity... "
title: house of the rising red
characters: jungkook x reader
genre: romance, dark, vampire!jungkook, slightly older!jungkook, mature content

a/n: chapter one will be up soon, share if you like. also follow me for more bts stories and content, and feedback is much welcome.
. . .
"Mr. Kim, I don't have time for stupid games. Step aside."
"And if I don't?"
"If you don't, we'll have a problem." the imposing presence of Jungkook makes itself known next to her.
She feels his hand on her lower back, his fingertips sending a slight shiver up her spine even through the thin fabric of her dress. Y/n glances to him, he's an epitome of perfection, from the top of his styled hair to his formal suit, but his eyes are fixed on Taehyung in a challenging stare.
Taehyung has the inclination to say something, it's clear this is not his first encounter with Jungkook. He doesn't in the end, swallowing a discontented gulp of his glass before walking away.
"Are you okay?" Jungkook's head swivels to her.
"I'm fine." she discreetly puts some distance between herself and the dark haired man, still avoiding to look him in the eyes. It's like he has such piercing gaze, searching for an inkling inside her that she's foreign to...
"Come, let's get you a drink. Don't just stand there all night." he grabs her wrist, not bothering with her evasion of him.
Her options are limited, she lets him maneuver her through the hallway and to a calm place in the foyer.
Jungkook whispers an order to one of the maids, not a minute later the woman's return bringing an iced, red colored drink with her on a tray that is unlike the champagne most other guests consume.
"I don't want alcohol."
"It's not. It's a cherryade receipe from Greece."
Satisfied with that explanation, Y/n accepts the glass, taking a few sips. The taste of sourcherries mixes a combination of sour, bitter and sweet, its fruity perfume offering it an aromatic taste. "Do you travel? Some of the items in the mansion are originar to other countries from Europe."
"You noticed?" he muses at her keen sense of observation. "Not anymore. I used to travel before old man Franco died and I inherited the mansion. I have to take care of business here." though that's not the entire truth.
"Aunt Charlotte told us you got your doctorate to the best university in France, why stay here when you could have become a successful businessman somewhere in a big city?"
"This island has sentimental value to me." his gaze dips upon her while she's glimpsing over the attendees of the party.
Y/n sees how it lingers on the curve of her neck from the corner of her eye, his irises darkening imperceptively, and she's shaken back to reality: even if he comes off as an ordinary man, it doesn't change the peculiarity of last night's scene.
"I know this might offend you, but please stay away from my sister." she hands him the drink, finally confronting the unspoken issue. "She's interested in you but if you have ill intentions, I ask you to think carefully about this. I will not let you harm my family in any way."
Jungkook chuckles. "Brave little thing, aren't you?" his touch is edged with the tug of his lips upward, stroking a strand of her hair between his thumb and index finger. "Pretty, too..."
Her brows knit, he's not taking her seriously, yet it's not just because she's a girl.
It's because she's unaware of many things.
"But are you really worried for your sister or for yourself?" he towers over her, once again messing her unyielding composure. "Do you want me to stay away from her...or from you?"

Defrosting Ivy [Yoongi x Reader]
Summery: In a world where the 3 apex predators (humans, vampires, and werewolves) have been in a long standing power imbalance, Y/n is tasked with going undercover as a diplomat for the start of peace talks. What do they need to do? Find a talisman their organization has managed to identify as vital in resolving the conflict and ensuring the safety of all humans.
Pairings: Yoongi (BTS) x GN Reader
Rating: Teens+
Chapter Warnings: Food, Internalized Bigotry
Series Warnings (will update as I write): Food, Bigotry, Violence, Major Character Death.
Word Count: 5.3k words
Genre: Supernatural AU, E2L, Angst, Fluff
A/N: This gift was created through @bangtansecretsanta and is for @nabiolive. Surprise! I’m your Bangtan Secret Santa (Eggnog)! I’ve had so much fun writing this and getting close to you! I can’t wait for our friendship to continue to bloom!
A/N2: Big thanks to @voiceswithoutlips for being an amazing friend and listener as I shared all my many thoughts on this series through the year and for being a beta for this series!
The halls yawned open, inhaling the diplomats greedily like they were air, welcoming them into the bowels of the renovated castle. It was a joint effort by the three apex creatures- humans, werewolves, and vampires. No one seemed to bat an eye at the powerful stone arches or the many paintings of magical creatures that once were. It was quite shocking because those paintings seemed to bat eyes at those who passed. You acted like you weren’t paying mind either, like you were trying to adjust your uncomfortable clothes after the long trek. Even though there was no adjustment possible that would make them any less itchy or tight fitting. The only plus of being inside though was now you weren't shivering your ass off. Despite no snow, this place was colder than where you'd come from and these clothes did nothing to keep you warm. You walked in the back of the group of twelve diplomats, sizing them all up as they walked. One seemed to have a limp. A few strutted around as if they’d owned the place (and if they were vampires, they might have owned this place). No one was talking though. No one even seemed to be looking at others.
They probably were. If the humans had a spy here, you wouldn't doubt that the vampires and werewolves also had a spy in the delegate. Hell, you wouldn't be shocked if all four diplomats were. They were sneaky like that. They wanted to gain power over humans. They longed for times before humans protected themselves with interspecies treaties. You shivered at the thought of a time without laws and organizations helping protect humans from the werewolves and vampires… or any of the other, now extinct, creatures that had harmed humans much more. There was a reason they were gone and most of it wasn't because of the world warming up. Thankfully, those horrors were gone and you only had to keep your guard against those present. They’d want the treaties to be rewritten, to give them more land and resources and that’d be a slippery slope to them once again lording over humans and causing harm. Humans might even go extinct.
Following behind everyone, you kept in mind the different opening arches that invited people to other parts of the castle. There must have been four other halls that one could explore along this straight path. Where it led to? You'd assumed it led to the large dining space that your boss, Chaewon, had talked about in the debriefing. You knew that if you were to memorize the layout of this place, you’d need to explore them soon. There was something you needed to find in these halls and it likely wouldn’t be in the main hall. The dining space was likely the throne room that had been converted and filled with a large circular table that’d hold all twelve diplomats and more. The circular table did mean that there wasn’t an easy place to position yourself with fewer places to keep an eye on. If there were three of these tables sized down, you would have been back in high school with the dingy tables with mysterious sticky surfaces and bad food. This was a castle though so the food better be good.
Everyone sat in the first seat that they could grab and you found yourself having to make the longest trek of them all to the seat furthest from the door. How dreary. It felt like everyone had their eyes on you, sizing you up for the first time. If they were, they would be trying to discern what you may do to help or hinder the delegate. Something you weren't sure about either. Despite the tension, you tried to plaster a small smile on your face and walk in a relaxed manner. You worked hard to ignore how ungracefully and unbalanced you walked (like a newborn bird learning to walk) or how your clothes doing nothing to hide your jerky movements. For this mission to work, you needed them to not have much of any opinion of you. The less they thought of you, the better. It shouldn't be too hard to coast by in a group of twelve. That was a big group.
“How was the trip for you all?” You asked once you sat down, looking around the room and taking the time to size up everyone.
“Decent.” A gruff person with a scraggly beard grunted, adjusting in their seat constantly as if they would rather be anywhere but here, “I wish I was able to see outside of the carriage.”
A soft melodious laugh followed, the owner a small but handsome person, their face returning to one that was sharp and intimidating after the laugh, “Understandable. I wish that too. I got horribly motion sick. Asked Taehyung-ah to knock me out-”
“Which I refused.” Another person interjected, their hands up as if to signal they were unarmed.
“Tragically. I spent the whole trip sick. Hopefully they are able to neutralize the smell inside the carriages.”
“Oh no! I am sorry. I got motion sick when I was human.” A person (or vampire) with shaggy black hair and a neat mossy brown outfit spoke, patting the motion sick person on the back, “How are you feeling now? Did the fresh air and little walk help?”
The motion sick person nodded.
“I am Hoseok, by the way! Use he, him, his pronouns. I am a vampire and come from the south peninsula.”
Creatures still lived on the south peninsula? You’d always thought that it was a barren wasteland after those living there turned on each other. Maybe there was some program to help repopulate it? With how much vampires were pushing to have more autonomy under the current treaties, you wouldn’t be surprised.
Despite this new information, no one in the room was reacting. Nor did you. Instead, you nodded and looked around the room, making eye contact with a fem presenting person across the table from you. They had long black hair, a soft, plump face, and was smiling at you. You smiled back.
“I’m Jimin. He, him. A human from right outside of Elding, near the South Eldmond forests.” The motion sick man said, smiling once again. You knew nothing about those near the South Eldmond forests. They were often farmer folk but had a strong education program (as with every city, town, and community that humans lived in). It made sense that the delegate had someone from the South Eldmond forests.
“I am Taehyung… if not clear when Jimin-ah said he asked me to knock him out. I use he, him pronouns.”
You laughed and nodded, “I’m Y/n. They, them. My trip was…” It was spent trying to place turns to the map Chaewon had you memorize but no one here needed to know that, “Uneventful. I am glad I brought books to read while here. Made a good dent in them.”
“Oh! What books?” Someone with big round glasses and soft brown hair perked up, their mossy green sweater shifting as they moved, “I am Namjoon by the way! I use he, him, his pronouns. But honestly any pronouns work. I don’t care.”
“Ah. It’s an Aradat textbook of mine. I am trying to learn how to speak with the tree guardians… I see so much deforestation in my area. It breaks my heart. I figured if I can talk with the guardians some, I’ll be able to better help the trees.” You looked down as you spoke, rubbing your cuticles as you spoke. Chaewon had given you a look when she’d found out about your hobby and although she didn’t say more, it felt like she had judged you for your want. Talking about your language interest now felt somewhat childish… most humans never met tree guardians afterall. There was even question about if they were still alive.
“Oh! I know Aradat too!” Namjoon almost shouted, his smile almost as wide as his eyes, “I’ve been studying it since I was ten and I love it so much. It’s such a beautiful language! I am sure we can spend some time in the library here and find some books to read together.”
If he was in his wolf form, they’d be wagging their tail. Honestly, if you had a wolf form, you’d probably be wagging your tail excitedly as well (as long as you didn’t think of the implications of being alone with a werewolf… this castle had protections for humans… right?).
“I’d love to!”
A soft and excited laugh broke you and Namjoon’s excited focus, “Your all’s excitement is so cute!” The fem presenting person was speaking, “Your excitement makes me want to try to learn Aradat! Oh! I am Minji by the way! She, her, hers pronouns.”
“Try learning it, Minji-ssi! It is such a fun language to learn and I am finding it somewhat easy to pick up.” You said, “I am happy to lend my textbooks as well if you wanted.”
“Maybe. I have a lot of work to do for my work back home though so I may not have time.” She shrugged, her expression dampened and worry lines growing on her face. Her frown made her look much older, like her work had worn her down and taken life away from her (something you related to).
“Were you not able to get off of work? The vampirism community made it so that if you were accepted for an interspecies delegation, you wouldn’t have to work your other job. They’re even paying us for this.” The person was small but had defined shoulders which were frequently brushed by his shoulder-length black hair. It was one in a half do… a manbun… and maybe it was the manbun or the fact that he didn’t have to do extra work when you knew the human community didn’t offer the same grace, but his words felt patronizing.
“Ahhh. That’s nice. Sadly capitalism runs the human societies.” Jimin said with a sigh, “I have to log into my computer for a few hours a day and do a bunch of paperwork daily. It won’t interfere with my diplomatic duties, though! I promise!”
Taehyung and you nodded.
The person with a manbun scoffed, “Humans were always so attached to capitalism. Overly attached if you ask me.” You bristled at that. Sure capitalism had its downsides… but humans being attached? Vampires were the ones who brought capitalism to humans! They lorded over us before we set up our treaties! Besides, it was the only way for us to survive. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be able to do much… What did this vampire know anyways?
“Potentially this delegate will help to lessen that attachment.” Hoseok said with a hum, “Oh! Hyung! Don’t forget to introduce yourself!”
“Min Yoongi. I am… 400 or so years old. I lost track after 200 so I might be older. Um… I use he, him or they, them pronouns.”
By then, the food came out and while conversation could’ve continued, no one seemed to want to eat. You lost all want to eat when you saw the large, glass cups full of thick red blood that the vampires were drinking. They had large smiles on their faces as they sipped away and you could've sworn Yoongi even laughed when Minji looked away. Yet you forced food into your stomach anyways. Couldn’t they have chosen an opaque glass to hold the blood? So that people didn’t have to see the blood?
Once dinner was over, you followed Taehyung, Jimin, and Minji with heavy feet to the human quarters. It was a drab small space in the back of the castle with two doors that led off to two bedrooms with two matching, uncomfortable twin beds. There was only one shared bathroom... for all four of you. The common space had enough room for a table and chairs, a couch, and a lit fireplace and the bedrooms only had two wardrobes, the two beds, and a shared bedside table. You’d need to find another place to meet with Chaewon and to get alone time, but this would do for the bare necessities. With that in mind, you found yourself retiring early to bed, your mind too full of new information and sloshing blood to stay up with the other humans.
“Ugh. Vampires are always so prideful. Sounds to me like they might pose a challenge during this delegate. Keep your distance.” Chaewon scoffed and though you couldn’t see her, you could imagine the disgust twisting on her face. She was the most squeamish person you’ve met. If she’d been here, she’d have passed out at the sight.
“I will try. Don’t want to get close to any of the others here. I want to find the talisman and get out.” You said, adjusting in the closet that you’d managed to find in an unused part of the castle. Sure, you’d be sneezing up a storm after all the dust you’ve sifted through, but at least it was a private place to be and hide your supplies.
She hummed, “I believe in you. Keep me in the loop.”
You nodded, even though she couldn’t see you.
“And Y/n-ah?”
“Yes?”
“Stay safe.”
Once again, you found yourself nodding as Chaewon closed the connection. You packed the small stone she used in your go-bag, setting everything into the bag with great care and caution before checking to make sure the map, water, and food were all still there. Once you were able to verify that, you hid it under some of the many half broken buckets and mops that the closet had. Straining your ears, you listened to see if you heard anything that could hint at someone nearby. When you didn’t, you quickly left the closet and raced to the window across from it to look out, your breath fogging it up. Maybe you didn’t have super good hearing or eyesight like werewolves or vampires but you knew how to act like you were exploring the castle.
“What are you doing over here?” Someone’s rough voice interrupted you, making you jump. Yoongi.
“You scared me!” You said, looking him over as you tried to calm your fast heart. He was in casual clothes and seemed to be looking you over as well. Frustration and anxiety grew in the pit of your stomach like a vine grows on the gound, slow and only hinting at a potential problem down the road.
“What are you doing over here?” He asked again, coming closer. You could almost see his fangs poke out from his mouth even when he wasn’t talking, his lips twisted into a scowl.
“I am exploring. Want to see what different parts of the castle have to offer. Isn’t this view pretty?” You asked, hoping he’d look out (even if you’d so happened to choose a window with one of the least pretty views, looking out at the brick wall of another part of the castle).
“I don’t see the beauty. Explain it to me.” You bristled at his demand. Damn vampires were characteristically demanding. Now you had to somehow explain to him the beauty of a brick wall with the start of a growing ivy infestation.
Taking a deep breath in, you looked down, “You see the ivy?”
“Duh.”
You scoffed, “Humor me please.”
“I am.” A small smile grew on his face at that and you wanted to smack it off. Why was he being such a smart Alec?!
“Sure. Well this plant only bears fruit when it’s climbing. It only matures when it’s climbing. It is only invasive when it climbs.” You were rambling, rushing to try to find something in this ivy that you could claim is pretty. Something in the bricks that were pretty. Damn Yoongi.
“That’s going to affect the structural integrity of the building. Someone should tell the grounds keeper.”
You shrugged, floundering as you tried to think of what to say, “Maybe. I kind of think it is poetic. This ivy is native to the wooded areas I can see near here. The trees and bushes that used to live here probably had a blanket of the ivy at their feet. They lived in harmony… and here’s a big castle-”
“It’s quite small actually. For castles.” Yoongi corrected, and you bristled at his laugh.
“Ok. Here’s a *small* castle that was made by removing a bunch of native stuff and put nonnative plants in the gardens and remove all natural diversity… But the native plants are still here. They’re even trying to take back the land that was taken from them.” You finally felt like you’d reached a place that could describe the beauty of this… at least to an extent and hopefully Yoongi would accept the answer, “It’s quite beautiful.”
Yoongi hummed and nodded, “Yeah. I see. Sort of like how the proposed new treaty has beauty to it. It will help return some natural order.”
You froze. He was taking this example of buildings and twisting it to fit this idea that vampires and werewolves deserved more than what humans had given? They were dangerous! They hurt people. This treaty was going to harm people and here he was trying to claim that native plants reclaiming what was their space was similar? You wanted to try to debate him but one look and you knew he wouldn’t listen. There was a cocky glimmer in his eyes and as he raised his eyebrows at you, you knew he was hoping for you to react.
Forcing a smile, you nodded, “Sure. Now, if you excuse me, I am going to explore more of the castle.”
Yoongi shrugged, “I’ll join you.”
You wanted to say no and ask to be alone but once again, you felt like he was wanting a challenge and you needed to be on your best behavior. Conflict between humans, vampires, and werewolves wouldn’t serve your mission. It’d only hinder you at getting more information and finding the talisman. Instead you smiled and nodded, trying to keep your distance from Yoongi. The further away you were from him the better.
He was suspecting you too much, challenging you too much, angering you too much.
Somehow, you managed to make it to lunch with him following you around like a plague, making snide comments here and there and wholly grating you. You guessed that it made sense for a vampire to be good at getting under your skin but that didn’t make you like it any less.
Lunch was a simple congee with a steamed sweet potato. Despite it being so simple, you found yourself excitedly eating it, taking extra care to relish in it as you eyed the vampires who seemed to be forced to sit and watch as the werewolves and humans ate. You didn’t know if they were frustrated or annoyed at having to sit in with them but you liked to think so. Yoongi at the very least rolled his eyes a few times at a few of your groans of enjoyment and that made your day all the better. The more annoyed he was at you, the more he’d leave you alone (hopefully).
“You seem to like the congee!” Minji exclaims with a laugh.
“Yeah! It is quite good. Reminds me of my mom’s cooking.” That was a lie. A bold faced lie but how else were you to explain your interest in such simple congee.
“Oh? Interesting! I think I only had congee when I was sick or food stores were low.” Jimin said with a hum and Minji nodded.
“That must’ve been nice. My family did-doesn’t have much. Rice was cheap enough that we could eat it frequently and be full enough to study and work in the fields.” You said, looking down at the few spoonfuls of congee left. This wasn’t a lie. Often a simple congee or some simple panchans were all you were able to eat, the food filling you up for a while but always leaving you wholly unsatisfied. This job was your way out of poverty in many ways. You could send your remaining family a bit of money monthly and work hard to start climbing up the social ladder. This job, though what you wanted to do to help educate and protect your loved ones, was also hard. You had to edit books that talked about the previous wars (often a tiring and emotional task), you had to help distribute the books to schools and libraries in need (often a demanding task), and you needed to help brainstorm new ways to protect humans from the growing threat of vampires and werewolves (often a mentally draining task).
“Were there not people who could help your family?” A wide eyed werewolf, Jungkook, asked, their fork frozen halfway to their mouth, rare steak dangling from it dangerously.
“The whole village didn’t have much. Everyone tried to help out others but with little to share, no one could help us.”
“I feel like the government should’ve helped!” Jisoo, a werewolf that had been quiet up to that point said with a start, almost dropping his steak on the table in shock.
“The government does. It isn’t always enough.” Taehyung shrugged with a deep sigh, “I’ve been trying to work on improving it with my job back home but there is only so much one can do with all the managerial tape in place.”
Jisoo scoffed, “Ok. Sounds fake.”
You looked at Taehyung, who was worrying his lip as he looked around the room and shrugged with him. Hopefully he knew not to take a hotheaded wolf’s thought to heart. They had different lives and thoughts on how the world should function. It led to conflicts frequently. Taehyung was doing his best to help out where possible.
“Well. I am done.” She said as she got up and leaned closer to you and whispered, “Y/n-ssi, would you want to explore the gardens with me?”
You looked down at the leftover congee in your bowl, shoving it in your mouth with an excited nod. The gardens was something you’d (intentionally) not explored with Yoongi earlier today and the thought of exploring them with Minji excited you, despite the cold of a snowless winter.
As it turned out, your excitement was well placed. She was thoughtful with her comments on the garden's looks, giving you a different lens than the native plants that were true to the general region.
“So… I am assuming you grew up in Naranaan?” She asked, looking at you with a thoughtful expression.
“Near it. What about you?”
“Elding” She said, looking around at the bushes. Elding was a richer area than your hometown, often relishing in the many lavish foods and materials places had to offer. You’d moved near them now but was always shocked at how much more Elding had to offer.
“Did you always want to be a diplomat?” You eventually asked.
She shrugged, “It’s been chosen for me for a while. I come from a well off family and they’ve always expected me to do something big. Working to reduce conflict between the big three? That’s something big. It’s something I might be able to do or at least help with. What about you?”
“I wanted to be a social worker. That’s what I went to school for. This is all so… so different. Even the work I do back in the city… it’s different. It’s less personal. I don’t see the people I am trying to help.”
“That sounds isolating.”
“Sometimes it is. I notice it most during the winter. It snowed back home but it’s been years since I’ve gone home so I barely even remember snow anymore.”
“Years? How come?”
You shrugged, “I… I don’t have the luxury of not working.”
She sighed, “When we return from this delegation, I will treat you to a trip to the Uncald Mountains. You’ll see snow again. Mark my words.”
You laughed and shook your head, “I can’t accept!”
“You can! And you will! Just you wait. I will tire you out from saying no.” She said with a smile, her eyes holding a warmth that reminded you of a sibling’s care.
You leaned into her warm shoulder and looked out, for once, imagining you had an older sister who would take care of you like Minji was offering to. Closing your eyes, you sighed and basked in her warmth, imaging a life where you didn’t have to fight for everything you had, where you had someone to lean on rather than going out without direction or support. Chaewon was the closest you’d ever gotten to someone supporting you but she was nothing more than a mentor and boss. Even with the barrier of worker-boss relationships separating you from ever completely leaning on her like you might an older sibling or parent, she was the closest you’d had of that and you admired her greatly. Like you, she seemed to have a rough upbringing, working tooth and nail to get her position and help her family. She also had such a strong direction in life. She took risks and did what needed to be done to help her community. She did so much and you wanted to be like her.
She was so far from you right now- the furthest she’s been since you joined the organization- and you felt somewhat lost. There was no information she could give to help you, most she could do is advise you but even that felt empty. Once again, you were alone and while you knew you had to find the talisman, you had no idea what else you could do to help protect your community. You didn’t delude yourself with the idea that you dragging your heels into the mud and trying to undermine vampire, werewolf, and human relationships would do anything but isolate you and raise suspicions but you had no idea what else you could do. You were at a loss and it scared you. It brought you back to when you were fighting for your life to get through undergraduate school, each meal precious, each job a struggle, and each night a questionable rest.
“Do you think this will go well?” You asked, not wanting to look at Minji while she thought.
“I do. This will help ease the tension between the big three. A delegation and a small joint Yule celebration will be quite good! I don’t know if it will lead to any direct change right away but it will be the start of a lot of different delegations.” She laughed somewhat bitterly, “Given… I’ve been told I am optimistic to a fault. I want us all to be able to live in harmony and that has to start with communication.”
“Well, if you’re optimistic to a fault, I will try to be too. My life has been fairly sheltered from vampires and werewolves but I’ll try to get to know them and help.” Uncertainty was lapping at your feet, growing around them like juvenile ivy, but you wanted to follow Minji in that moment. You wanted to believe that all would work out if you were polite and kind… besides, it wouldn’t do you anything not to so you might as well try to be friendly.
She hummed, “It helps that so many of our other delegates are so good looking.”
You chuckled at that, your mind flashing the many good looking people here: Seokjin, Jungkook, Hoseok, Yoon- *not him*, Minji, “You’re definitely up there, Minji-ssi.”
A laugh rose up from her, floating into the night, “I’m honored you think so. You’re on the list too.”
You looked up at her, eyes wide and warmth rising on you, “Why thank you.”
The two of you settled into a soft silence after that, the night sky growing more and more, stars coming out of hiding and showing off to you. There were so many more stars here, something you imagined Minji and many of the others from around cities were shocked by. So much light pollution made it hard to see stars in cities and unless one was from a small town or camping, they rarely saw stars anymore. It made sense to you that there were stars way out in the yawning gap between the Uncald mountains and the Ardt woods, but of course, no one else knew where they were or why so many stars would be present. Breathing in the fresh air, you curled in on yourself, falling into some sort of meditative state as you listened to the many animals chattering away. Many of them seemed to be distant relatives of animals you knew in your area, finches and jays all with similar but slightly different calls, bugs and lizards that all sang songs of kinship to those native to your area.
Maybe one day, you’d sneak off or go with someone to try to observe the wildlife more, for now, you’d stick to looking out at the garden and past it to the woods that seemed to hug this side of the (small) castle.
At some point, Minji groaned and got up, quiet good nights leaving her as she hobbled inside. A part of you wanted to join her, to go back into the castle and call it a night, but the small town person part of you kept you in your place with a vice-like grip. The woods were calling to you, inviting you to explore and see the wonders that lay within them. As a kid, your mom would tell you stories of magical creatures like willow-o-the-wisps, brownies, gumihos, goblins, and many other creatures of the past. Of course it was all outlandish- many of those creatures have gone extinct (hunted out of existence by werewolves and vampires), but it was fun to think of, fun to wonder what might be waiting for you out in the woods.
You looked back up the castle, looking through the windows at the illuminated worlds of the inside. Someone was exercising on the third floor where a gym might be, someone was reading in the library on the first floor (maybe you should go there soon), and someone was looking out at you from the window next to the door.
What?
You did a double take and now no one was there.
You got up, your limbs protesting as you did, and called out to see if anyone would answer. No one did. When you opened the door to reenter the inside world, no one was there… had you imagined it? It wouldn’t be the first time you’d imagined something… like that all-too-real dream about a secret basement in the company full of labs and tests.
But it wouldn’t be impossible for you to have actually seen someone. Vampires had superhuman strength and speed afterall. Maybe they thought that they were sneaker than they actually were. Was it Yoongi? You bristled at the thought. If it was, he was getting too suspicious of you. Dude needed to back up. He needed to stop focusing on you. He could be dangerous.
Shaking your head, you figured now would be a good time to return to your room. It’s been too long of a day and you had another long day ahead of you. That talisman was waiting for you and if Yoongi was already suspicious of you, you had some acting that needed to be done soon too.

“You change universities after moving towns. Your new university is an old, ancient building with secret tunnels and whispered ghost stories. There are two fraternities, which for some reason always seem to be in a quarrel. Alpha consisting of Kim Taehyung, Kim Namjoon, Park Jimin and Min Yoongi. Handsome, porcelain skinned men, who act as if they are out of another century and for some reason everyone on campus seems to be scared of. And Sanguis consisting of Jeon Jungkook, Kim Seokjin and Jung Hoseok. Men with skin just as pale and their faces just as beautiful, who always wear sunglasses when it is light outside and who never seem to open their curtains. And for some peculiar reason you always find yourself in the middle of them….”

Summary: Five days a week in the library means you're very familiar with the senior research librarian. It also means he has no qualms about making his own book recommendations either.

This blog is intended for 18+ only! Minors/blank blogs will be blocked.
The sweet aroma of old books and strong coffee infiltrates your nose as the heavy doors into the library swing open, offering reprieve from the storm raging on outside. It’s far too early for anyone to be here beyond staff and a few other morning birds. You glide right to the circulation desk as if fatigue doesn’t pulse through your veins, barely quelled by the second cup of coffee you sip from.
As always, the same familiar head of dark hair with sparse silver streaks waits at the circulation desk. He’s the only person working this early despite being the senior research librarian but you never hear any complaints louder than muttered annoyance under his breath when he thinks no one is around to hear. Bent over his laptop, Yoongi doesn’t even bother to look up as he slides a heavy stack of books to the edge of the counter.
Eleven total, ten heavy volumes on ancient fertility cults across the globe, and one book you know he’s mixed in for his own amusement.
It’s become something of a game between you two. At first you thought he was mixing your materials with someone else’s, but every time you brought the additional copy back to his desk, Yoongi insisted he had no idea what you were talking about and questioned your reading choices. Each time the titles got more ridiculous: Castration: The Advantages and the Disadvantages, How to Enjoy Your Weeds, Amish Vampires in Space, the list goes on and on. But after he slipped Why Fish Don’t Exist into your stack a few weeks ago, you decided to start responding.
You left the stack at his desk like usual, ears perked for his reaction to Fishes I Have Known. An amused snort rang out just as you opened the doors to leave for the afternoon. The sound was so unlike the stoic man you’d become accustomed to over months working on your thesis; not that you heard him talk much to begin with.
Since then you’ve made a point to match every book he leaves for you. Yesterday, Yoongi chose I Could Pee on This: and Other Poems by Cats. At the end of the day, you spent thirty minutes searching shelf after shelf for an appropriate response, every book failing to meet your expectations. It wasn’t fair he knew the expansive collection like the back of his hand but nevertheless you found something up to par.
Yoongi rolled his eyes when you passed your books over the counter, a copy of Staying Dry: A Practical Guide to Bladder Control, like a shining star on top. A brief pink of his tongue flashed across his lips, a feeble attempt to muffle an amused smile. It was the most obvious reaction since the first time you responded.
Smiling like the cat who ate the canary, you left on clouds last night.
But this morning you have notes to write.
Snagging the collection, you make your way deeper into the building. Your unassigned-assigned desk tucked away on the fifth floor, far enough away from any noise so you can fully immerse in work without the threat of distraction. An uninterrupted view of the courtyard below is an added bonus.
The wooden table top is covered in a neat collection of pens and sticky notes in minutes; your laptop and the foot tall collection of references you devour over the next eight hours taking up the other half.
A few titles you request over and over sit on top, too valuable to be checked out for long term use so you settle for keeping them in constant rotation since no one else bothers to read the dusty yellowing tombs. For now, you focus on the new pieces you hope hold the information you need.
Earth rites: fertility practices in pre-industrial Britain, Archaeology and Fertility Cults in the Ancient Mediterranean, Metamorphosis of Baubo: myths of woman's sexual energy—
I’m in Love with Mothman…
Well there it is.
You thumb across the glossy cartoon cover, failing to bite back a smile. Yoongi has a penchant for tossing in the most outlandish romance books he can find. Maybe because he knows you spend just as much if not more time than he does between the stacks. The suggestion box at the desk was full of cards stained with your penmanship asking for longer hours; several of which you’ve seen Yoongi rip in half as he pointedly met your gaze.
Tossing it aside, you pull forward one of the more musty books and start reading.
When you finally manage to resurface from laborious tales on several cults of Aphrodite, the rain is long gone. Even the darkest corners of the old building seem to glow gold in the evening sunset filtering through the glass doors. They're the only thing standing between you and freedom in the form curling up on your couch with a glass of wine and a new episode of your favorite reality dating show. But first, Yoongi needs his books back.
His desk chair is abandoned and the return cart is gone as well which means he could be anywhere in the building. Disappointment leaches into your spine at the fact you won’t be able to witness his reaction to the twelfth book in your pile; the one you spent an extra fifteen minutes looking for in the corner of the third floor.
A thick piece of library paper lists the materials you’ll need for the next day lays atop the neon green cover of Pest Management Solutions: How to Manage Your Moth Problem. They decorate the corner of the desk until Yoongi returns to find them. Hopefully he appreciates your humor.
Yoongi isn’t at his desk the next morning when you come in either. Instead, a doe eyed man with a lip piercing occupies the chair, clearly playing some game on his laptop.
Approaching the counter, you begin to ask, “Where’s Yoon–”
“Staff meeting,” he interjects like he’s already answered the question a million times despite the library opening only five minutes ago. The white of his teeth threaten to blind you. “But I can help you!”
His name tag isn’t the same engraved golden metal Yoongi’s is, it’s a plastic sleeve with a paper insert with barely legible handwriting you decipher as “Jungkook” and below “Volunteer.” You’ve seen him before from a distance. Usually trudging through the shelves with the book return cart in tow, occasionally taking a quick read inside before putting them in their rightful place.
“I need to pick up some books. I gave Yoongi the list yesterday.”
“Sure.” Jungkook jumps up, approaching the shelf lined with piles for other patrons. “What’s your last name?”
He combs through the list after you answer, finding your stack easily enough.
“Alright so Yoongi left a note that the encyclopedias you wanted are on the usual desk you have upstairs. But other than that I’ve got: Historical Studies of Changing Fertility, Sacred Mushroom and The Cross, Archaeology and Fertility Cults in The Ancient Mediterranean…” Jungkook lists off the titles, checking to make sure they're all in order. “And, um, this one isn’t on the list.”
It must be Yoongi’s choice for the day.
“What is it?”
Jungkook looks like he’s trying to hide his own amusement as he slides it over for you to read.
If I Were a Bird, You'd be The First Person I'd Shit On.
“Huh,” you blush. “Wonder how that got in there.”
“He must have left it by mistake. I can put it ba–”
“No, I’ll take it.” You toss it on top of the other, less embarrassing books in your stack and gather it into your arms before Jungkook can get in another word. “Thanks for your help!”
Scurrying towards the hallway housing the elevators, you attempt to juggle the pile of books, your stuffed bag, and coffee without taking a spill. It’s one thing to have your silent battle with Yoongi, but having someone else witness it makes you feel downright silly. And for the first one witnessed by others to be such an absurd and downright passive aggressive selection sends embarrassment through your veins.
As promised, three encyclopedias sit neatly on your desk; the volumes so thick they protrude from the table top like a small mountain. No wonder he left them there instead of making you carry them up in individual trips. But Yoongi’s goodwill clearly ended there. A sticky note on top of the stack pens his discontent at your selection.
I had to spend 3 hours in the basement to find these. If you need them again, don’t.
Even though he hadn’t signed it, you know it’s from him. The tight script fits his personality; thin lines of annoyance bleeding through the ink, not just his words. A waft of musty old paper and dust breezes through your nose as you open the first copy. They must have been housed in a forgotten storage area. At least his bird book makes more sense now.
You don’t dig into the heap until after the sun is halfway through the sky but when you do it only proves to unravel your wits. Reading on, the wrinkle in your eyebrows deepens further. Page after page of conflicting knowledge passes by, each sentence more confusing than the last; minutes negating months of research. The thick pages hardly provide a soft landing for your head as you allow it to thump forward in exasperation.
The scrap of chair legs alerts to a new presence watching your meltdown in real time.
“Something wrong?” Yoongi asks.
With a heavy sigh, you respond.“I want to die.”
“Get in line.”
Shifting in your seat, you peer in his direction. A different day but the same wardrobe: dark button up, glasses, same unapproachable facade. But what Yoongi is doing sitting next to you is new.
Yoongi makes himself comfortable, picking at his nails as he waits patiently for an explanation.
“Everything in my thesis is either wrong or the world authority on fertility in Europe is full of it.”
“Bummer.”
“Your sincerity is overwhelming.” You snap.
Yoongi rolls his eyes. Boredom seeps across his face but he doesn’t move to leave, just sinks deeper into the chair. “You’ve read almost half the collection since you started coming here, why are some old dusty books such a big deal?”
“Because all of those books cite these books which means those books are wrong and all my work is in the toilet.”
“Those books are from the seventies, the information is probably out of date.”
Slamming the copy serving as a pillow shut, you take a second glance at the title: Encyclopedia of Women and World Religion, Volume 7.
“Yoongi,” you sing.
Yoongi’s gaze flashes to yours, a trickle of confusion flashing across his eyes.“What?”
You stack up the books and push them across the desk with some effort. Just to savor the satisfaction of besting Yoongi, you indulge a long sip of now cold coffee before speaking again. No one else is around to witness your victory but that won’t dampen the high.
“Looks like you’ll be back in the basement because you brought me the wrong editions.”
He opens his mouth to argue, snatching one of the books to investigate but you beat him to the punch.
“I asked for the twenty-fifth edition, not the seventh.” You smirk. “I think you're losing your touch.”
He watches you over the rim of the cover. A fleeting glance in your direction but it makes your heart squeeze with need.
“Well, I guess you’re right,” Yoongi sighs, standing. “Do you still need them for anything or can I go ahead and take them?”
With your approval, he heaves the heavy tombs on to his cart. The strain of his forearms, bare from rolled up sleeves, catches your attention. Veins raised under creamy skin, lean muscles leading down to hands you’ve noticed since the first day you started visiting the library.
If you keep staring, you’re likely to start drooling. So you dive back into one of the useful books littering your desk and pretend to read until he’s disappearing down the hall.
On your way out, leaving much earlier than a typical day due to Yoongi’s mistake, you drop the remaining books off at the circulation desk. Along with a copy of Avian Hunting Techniques. He’s absent again but it doesn't matter.
You continue out the doors and down the sidewalk only to spot him leaning against the brick exterior further down the street. Even from a distance you can make out the natural scowl he’s constantly sporting. Except this time his lips pout around a cigarette.
Of course he smokes.
The quasi-mysterious librarian who flirts with you through book titles, smokes cigarettes and looks hot doing it.
“You know those things will kill you, right?”
“That’s what the box says but they aren’t holding up their end of the deal,” Yoongi responds, flicking the ash before looking at his watch. “Wow, out before six. I’ll alert the press.”
“Well, if someone gave me the right books then maybe I’d stay longer. But I’m not about to wait around while you get the ones I need.”
Yoongi takes another drag of his cigarette before responding, “Are you trying to say I forced you to take a break?”
The realization dawns on you. Yoongi is the senior research librarian. He’s never given you the wrong books, even when you request the rare copies needed to be loaned from a different part of the country. The few times you’ve offered understanding if he couldn’t get them were met with a challenge in his gaze and smug satisfaction when handing them over a week later.
“You brought me the wrong copies on purpose!”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” He’s lying. You know it. Yoongi definitely knows you know by the way he smirks. But he’s already crushing the filter under his shoe and moving back towards the library by the time your brain catches up to your mouth. “Have a good night, Y/N.”
With a scoff of indignation, you stalk towards your car.
The next morning, you march straight through the class doors to where Yoongi sits, fueled by snowballed annoyance from the previous day. Waking up on the wrong side of the bed is an understatement. If there are any gods, Yoongi should pick one and pray.
Your free afternoon of yesterday was spent dealing with the chaos your apartment has become over the past few weeks. Unfolded laundry, stacks of random papers, out of place books, and errant dust bunnies all became new victims to energy usually reserved for a full day of research. Taehyung practically shit himself when he woke up before dinner and found you scrubbing the bathroom sink.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, hand to his chest like a flustered old woman.
Bleach curled in your nostrils. “I live here.”
“Not between the hours of eight and seven.”
But after the mess was dealt with, aggravation set in. How dare Yoongi purposefully meddle in your work. Well meaning or not you were an adult and could decide when enough was enough. The purposeful mishap hadn’t set you back far, one afternoon but a drop in the bucket in comparison to the months you’ve already spent chasing new leads. But the principle of the matter is that it’s none of his business what you do and when you do it.
Yoongi slides a slimmer stack over when you stop in front of him.
“Encyclopedias are on your desk,” he announces through a sip of coffee. He continues to type away, feigning disinterest as you sort through your stack with measured annoyance.
“Are they the right copies this time?”
“Double checked them myself.”
You open your mouth to verbalize your doubts but Yoongi’s pick of the day catches your eye.
Surviving Your Stupid Stupid Decision to Go to Grad School.
Scoffing, you flip the book around and shoot daggers into his face with your eyes. “Do you think you’re funny?”
The corner of his mouth twitches then becomes a full blown smile. Leaning over the desk, he drops his voice, “I think I’m hilarious.”
Remembering you are, in fact, in a library, you manage to muffle a frustrated groan. You dump the supplementary reading back on the counter for Yoongi to deal with and head upstairs.
Unlike the usual days where you put off finding a response to Yoongi’s extra copy until the waning hours of the afternoon, you drop your bags and head straight for the shelves. The fifth floor houses a collection of textbooks and other reference material. It’s why it's always deserted unless some poor fool stumbles on it by accident; the perfect place to work uninterrupted for hours.
You head down stairs, circling the fourth and then third floor like a shark in a feeding frenzy. A few covers spark interest but nothing captures what bubbles in your veins: annoyance, anger, confusion. A brief flutter of interest as to why Yoongi decided to mess with you but those feelings are more dangerous than the acidic ones.
Row after proves unfruitful in your quest for passive aggressive revenge. None have the same bite as his book, or seem to curb the homicidal thoughts raging in your head.
Until a little white book peeps back at you from the end of the aisle.
Yoongi jumps when you slam Bitter Is the New Black: Confessions of a Condescending, Egomaniacal, Self-Centered Smartass in front of him. A feat in and of itself to sneak up on him given the loan desk has a perfect view of the entire first floor but whatever he’d been clicking away at on the computer was distraction enough.
“What's this?”
“Thought you might like some new reading.” You flash your teeth.
His chin jerks towards the glossy cover. “I already gave this two stars on Goodreads.”
Of course he has.
Face prickling in embarrassment, you turn back the way you came without a word.
Hours later, when half the day has ticked by and the ache for more caffeine burns your eyes, Yoongi stops by your desk. He doesn’t speak, doesn’t try and gain the attention you pointedly withhold. He sets a paper coffee cup on the corner of the tabletop and leaves.
You snatch up the cup after he rounds the corner out of sight. The lack of sugar leaves much to be desired but free coffee is free coffee, especially to a PhD student with limited means.
It isn’t much of an apology but guilt blooms down your spine anyway. He meant well. You aren’t known for giving yourself breaks; unable to quit while you’re ahead. A voluntary day off is less likely than winning the lottery. You’re a busy body and the constant work keeps you from dissolving into chaos.
You don’t see Yoongi again until every book at your desk is exhausted, begging for a break from your manhandling. Double and triple checking notes and citations are the poor excuse you implement to delay the inevitable. At some point you’ll have to go downstairs to face the music.
He’s waiting like always, scanning the mountain of returns littering the counter from a long day. Each step closer withers something in your stomach.
The copies in your hand shift onto the wooden surface, joining the stack for him to work through. Yoongi flashes a polite grimace when you catch his eye before immediately diving back into his work. Hopefully he understands why you chose Thank You for Smoking. And why you covered the second half of the title with a sticky note.
Jungkook’s smiling face greets you bright and early. His name tag has been upgraded from flimsy paper to a plastic one and a printed label with his name.
Handing over your library card, he quickly scans it and grabs the books meant for today’s dissection.
“Yoongi wanted me to tell you that if you want more coffee while you’re working, you can go to the staff lounge on the second floor.”
“Oh.”
Jungkook continues sifting through your requests, making sure each is correct. “Between you and me, the coffee down the street is better. But don’t tell him I said that.”
“Why?”
“Because he’s a coffee snob and thinks his shit—sorry—stuff is the best.”
“Okay,” you say, grabbing your pile. “Thanks.”
You set up your station like always, sorting through each book and devising a mental to do list. The desk resembles a feast but instead of food it’s encyclopedias, printed articles, and dusty manuscripts Yoongi wrangled from who knows where. On the outer board of your work station rests the feature of the day: How to Beg for Cigarettes.
A few hours pass between the pages. Your previous research is confirmed by the significantly less dusty encyclopedias this time, corroborating the basis of your thesis. A new work you haven’t seen is cited in the back, piquing your interest for more evidence.
Instead of bothering one of the staff, you use the library website and find it in their catalog. It’s somewhere on the second floor where Yoongi offers free coffee. Two birds, one stone; a new book and a new cup of coffee.
The layout resembles all the other floors. A collection of study tables in the center crowded by bookshelves on all sides. One person, an undergrad by the look of pure dread on their features, occupies a table but that's it. Glancing at the note with the call number, you start towards the stacks on the left.
You find the correct area, eyes scanning up and down the different shelves to no avail. Hundreds of books, different sizes in an array of colors, flash by but none are the one you need. You’re about to call it quits when you spot it on the top shelf, just out of reach.
Call it a moment of stupidity, a brief blight of recklessness, but the book sits only a few inches beyond your fingers. You look around to make sure no one is around to witness the brilliantly flawed idea crest in your brain. With the coast clear, you hoist yourself up the shelf.
A deadpan voice nearly makes you fall.
“Looking for something?”
Yoongi stands a few feet away, head cocked to the side. Of course he’d find you in such a ridiculous position. Even through the blur of your peripheral vision, the harsh lines of his usual uniform clashes against the back drop of books. Dark jeans fitted over his thighs, dark button down rolled up his arms, and a pair of glasses that make him look hot. But you’re in no position to dwell when the risk of falling on your ass is so high.
“Nope, just getting in some exercise” you grunt, moving your foot to the shallow hold of the next shelf.
Yoongi moseys up behind you before continuing. “And climbing a decades old bookshelf is how you stretch your legs?”
“You smoke cigarettes, I climb old furniture. We all have our vices.”
Your foot slips from its perch, making you squeak before catching your balance.
“Alright spider-monkey, that's enough.” His hands slide across your hip, fingers curved around the softest part of your waist as he helps you down.
Distracted by the weight of him still on your hip, the heat of his chest a scorching across your back, you don’t even think to disparage him for the cheap Twilight reference. The few inches Yoongi has on you allows him to reach overhead to snag the copy you need with ease. But as you watch his hands close around the spine everything beyond fades to black; like the universe pinholes where you two stand.
“This one?” You feel the vibration of his words up and down your spine, warm breath tracing across the shell of your ear.
Body on autopilot, you turn to face Yoongi. His mouth moves, eyes scanning the book cover but every word deafens in a muddy haze. He doesn’t seem to realize his hand is still on your waist, or how he crowds you into the shelves; chest to chest, stomachs barely an inch apart.
“Huh?” you ask, tearing your eyes away from his mouth.
“I said, if you asked for this book earlier I could have gotten it for you.”
“Oh.”
“You okay?” he asks, stepping further into you. “You look a little flushed.”
The bastard smiles. A God’s honest smile like his thigh isn’t between your own, or he isn’t waiting for a reply while his fingers dig in beneath your ribs.
Just when you open your mouth to say something, Yoongi silences you with a firm squeeze of his hand. His head lowers until his breath ghosts along your chin.
Then you’re kissing; lips sliding together easily like he anticipated it. The world shatters all around from just a few passes of his mouth across your own, the weight of his body flattening you against the bookshelf.
The first hint of his tongue against the seam of your lips makes you gasp and Yoongi takes the opportunity to taste you. You melt under his attention. Head tipping back, shoulders bowing to take more, your senses flood with the remnants of coffee and something else; something so quintessential Yoongi your head spins. It lights a new flame in your veins, one burning with pure want.
A handful of his shirt pulls him closer. Yoongi follows easily but gets more than asked for when one of your hands tangles in the back of his hair, tugging until he’s tilting his chin the way you want. It’s a bad habit other dates have subtly complained about but a noise bubbles in his throat at the dig of your nails; responding with his own palm squeezing roughly across your ass until your hips meet his.
The crash of the book near your feet is like a bucket of ice water.
“Oh my god,” you gasp. Jumping back proves futile as the shelf digs further into your spine. “I–”
Puffy lips and lowered eyes stare back at you, clear evidence that you haven’t hallucinated what just happened. Yoongi dips down to kiss you again but you slither out of his grip.
Forgetting the book on the tiled floor, you mumble an apology and flee back upstairs, beelining to the vacant restroom.
To your own mortification, your features mirror Yoongi’s; lips swollen, eyes glazed. Your sweater twisted around your torso clearly betraying your rendezvous in the stacks. Beads of sweat cling to your forehead and neck.
A few splashes of cold water help clear the fog in your brain but as it dissipates embarrassment sets in. Making out with a handsome man is one thing. Making out with the librarian assisting in the most important work of your life is an entirely different ordeal; one that can only spell trouble.
Pacing back and forth, the cool paper towel on the back of your neck helps calm your racing heart enough to leave the safety of the ladies room.
Try as you might to drown under piles of books, it’s useless. You pretend to read the same passages over and over but none of the words register. The kiss replays over and over and over again. You kissed Yoongi. Yoongi kissed you back. He tried to kiss you again when you pulled away.
The end of the day inevitably comes which means you have to face him whether you want to or not. But you won’t allow a single lapse of judgment to affect your work; a moment of weakness propelled by months of abstinence that just so happened to coincide with a surly librarian’s entrance into your life. You just needed to get it out of your system. If it hadn’t been Yoongi it would have been someone else.
At least that’s what you tell yourself.
A glance at your watch informs you that today is the second day you’ll leave the library early. Rather than give into the stubborn instinct to stay, you decide putting as much distance between yourself and Yoongi is far better for your mental health. With squared shoulders and a raised chin, you head downstairs.
Yoongi’s waiting behind the counter. He isn’t typing on his computer or scanning books. He watches every step you take, arms crossed in front as he leans forward like he’s eager for a confrontation.
“Yoongi,” you say.
“Y/N.”
You use every fiber of will to maintain eye contact as you pass your stack over the counter. “I’ll need these same ones tomorrow.”
“Okay.” He nods. “And the kiss?”
“What kiss?” you croak.
Yoongi’s eyes blaze like you’re a new puzzle to be solved, like he wants to take you apart and find exactly what makes you tick. You feel naked. “The one where you—”
“Must have been someone else. Sorry. Have a good night!” You rush for the door before he can say another word.
Another morning is another day in the library, but this time your roommate begs to tag along.
“Look, I’m not getting anything done on my thesis so maybe you’ll rub off on me,” Taehyung says.
Rolling your eyes, you step through the door he holds open. “I think you’ve had plenty of people rub off on you.”
Gasping with fake indignation, he catches up easily. “Are you calling me a slut?”
“Yes.”
“Good, I wanted to make sure we were on the same page. Is that him?”
Yoongi and Jungkook are talking behind the counter. Jungkook’s hands wave wildly as he recounts whatever information to his boss while Yoongi listens with fake interest. Or that's what someone else might think. The subtle signs he cares are hidden in the details; the miniscule lift of shoulders, a cock of his head, and when Jungkook pouts in a way too ridiculous for a man his size, Yoongi hides a smile in the shake of his head.
“Yes.”
“And I’m the slut?” Taehyung scowls as you pinch his shoulder. “What? He’s a nerd’s walking wet dream.”
“And he can hear you, so shut up.”
“Morning!” Jungkook calls on his way past with a cart full of books.
He grins like he knows exactly what happened on the second floor yesterday but that can’t be true. Yoongi doesn’t seem like the type to kiss and tell. Only the type to kiss and tease you relentlessly for it when no one else is around to hear.
Taehyung’s attention immediately locks on him. You love your roommate, always have and, unfortunately, always will; but he is a slut and Jungkook is definitely his type. However, he’s on your turf and knows better than to fuck where you have to eat for the next few months.
“Y/N, Y/N’s friend,” Yoongi says when you approach his desk.
“Taehyung.”
“Right,” Yoongi drawls, blinking lazily before sliding your books over and turning around to sort something on the opposite counter.
Taehyung, ever the gentleman, grabs the pile for you and follows upstairs.
“Well he seems like a cup of sunshine,” Taehyung whispers.
“Just because he isn’t fawning over you doesn’t mean he’s an asshole.”
“I’m very fawn-able, ask anyone,” your roommate argues as you approach the fifth floor. “Wait, what's this… How to Defeat Your Own Clone and Other Tips for Surviving the Biotech Revolution. This is the type of shit he’s giving you? You’re easier than I am.”
“Give me that.” You snatch the paperback out of his grip. “Stop being nosy.”
Taehyung lets you work in peace after that, disappearing to gather more of his own materials. Even in undergrad he’d never been one to sit still for long. But he still managed to get a spot doing an engineering thesis despite the constant changes in his attention.
After several hours of mind numbing typing you need a break, and another cup of coffee on someone else’s dime sounds perfect.
“I’m getting coffee.”
“Bring me some,” Taehyung says without looking up from his screen.
The staff lounge is nothing fancy. A couple small tables with plastic chairs tucked around, a cork board covered with fliers, and a white board stuck to the fridge scrawled upon with black dry erase marker. The coffee pot sits full in the machine, still hot to the touch.
You pour two cups. Taehyung’s gets loaded with creamer cups until it’s closer to white than black while yours is sweetened to sickening perfection. When you try to take a sip, the liquid immediately burns your tongue. Too hot coffee is better than cold coffee but an ice cube would help make it more palatable.
Moving back to the fridge, you go to open the freeze but stop when the white board catches your attention again.
Most notes are chores or friendly reminders about time cards but almost half the board is dedicated to a back and forth.
‘Unofficial Employee of the Month: Jungkook’
A note in Yoongi’s tight script: ‘You don’t work here.’
‘That’s why it's unofficial!’ in what must be Jungkook’s messy handwriting.
‘You’re my official employee of the month. - Namjoon’
At the bottom is a crude drawing of stick figures, two tall smiling ones holding hands under a rainbow labeled ‘JK’ and ‘Joon’ and a comically shorter one with evil eyebrows surrounded by storm clouds and ‘yoongi :(’ overhead.
“Snooping for secrets?”
“Jesus Christ,” you jump, turning to face Yoongi. “Has anyone ever told you it’s rude to sneak up on people?”
“You’re in the staff lounge, there’s gonna be staff here.” Yoongi crosses to the coffee pot on the counter and pours himself a cup. He doesn’t add cream or sugar or anything else to lessen the bitterness. Cliche. “So, was bringing your boyfriend here your subtle way of letting me down?”
“You think Taehyung is my boyfriend?” You whirl around in shock. Yoongi raises a brow, prompting you to continue. “Jungkook is more his type than I am.”
Yoongi releases a pleased hum, eyes shining. “So no boyfriend then?”
“Nope.”
You’re shaking but don’t look away from his hungry gaze. Yoongi takes a step closer, and another and one more until you're pinned to the countertop and his mouth is on yours.
This time, you're more aware of everything. The smell of his cologne, the tickle of his bangs along your forehead, all the tiny details that were muffled before. Yoongi’s lips are firm against your own, a little chapped but it only makes you hotter with each pass.
His mouth is everywhere; your chin, your jaw, peppering down your throat until he pushes aside the hem of your shirt and sets to work on the jut of your collarbone like he’ll never get a chance again.
“Yoongi,” you hum on the first rake of teeth.
He takes it as an invitation to dig in harder, sucking the skin until your spine threatens to break and you say his name again. Desperate for some kind of anchor, you knot your fingers back in his hair and pull.
A throaty noise responds and the need to hear more rears its head. Yoongi who always watches with measured fascination undone by some light petting. The power is addictive.
Legs spread, he presses in flat. The heat of his cock, rigid beneath the fabric of his jeans, teases across the seam of your own. You're technically still in public but the consequences concern you less than the knowledge that you’ll go mad if you don’t feel him. His arms circle your back, pulling you firmer against him, right to the edge of the linoleum counter.
Wedging a hand between your bodies, you manage to get his zipper undone while your tongue traces along his jaw. Yoongi angles his hips to help, curling into your palm when you cup him over the fabric of his boxers. Every press has him swelling harder.
His hands reach under your shirt. Skin on skin, the rough calluses of his fingers trace your ribs, thumbs following the cup of your bra in a tease. It’s a simple touch but your own hands falter when he brushes a nipple. You melt into each other.
“Hey, Yoongi, do you know where—HOLY SHIT!”
Jungkook stops at the door, eyes wide, mouth wider.
“Get out!” Yoongi barks. He’s trying his best to keep your body covered from the younger man’s view but even if Jungkook isn’t getting a full frontal he isn’t dumb enough not to realize what’s going on.
Yoongi shudders a few breaths. Head hung low, he tucks himself back into his pants without moving away. You’re already slipping down from your perch when he looks back up.
“I’m just gonna…go,” you mumble, scurrying out the door.
Jungkook waits outside, eyes still bugging out of his head but at least has the decency to pretend he didn’t catch you in the act.
Tugging your shirt down, you avoid his gaze. How far would you have let Yoongi go if Jungkook hadn’t interrupted?
“Coffee?” Taehyung asks as you approach the table.
You know what you look like without a mirror. The same as yesterday with glassy eyes and bruised lips, clothes wrinkled. Thankfully, Taehyung is more interested in his modeling software than where you’ve been.
“They were out.”
With a sigh like he is personally victimized by the lack of caffeine, Taehyung collapses on the table and plays dead. But he perks up at the sound of footsteps approaching behind you.
“You left this in the break room,” Yoongi says, dropping a cup of coffee by your side before disappearing.
You turn to follow his retreating for until he’s hidden back between the shelves. The back of his hair is still messy despite his attempt to fix it, same with the wrinkles in his shirt from your hands.
“I thought they were out?” Taehyung eyes you suspiciously when you look back at him.
Cradling the still hot cup in your hands, you avoid his gaze. “Shut up.”
“So you do have to sleep with someone to get a cup of coffee.”
“I’m not sleeping with him,” you spit in a harsh whisper.
“Why not?”
“Because…”
Because what exactly? There isn’t a good reason other than the fact Jungkook was the king of cockblocks. You would have let Yoongi do just about anything he wanted and he seemed to be in agreement. But you’d rather die than admit that out loud.
“You are so smart and so incredibly stupid.” Taehyung rolls his eyes, rising to pack his things. “I need to pee.”
You point him in the direction of the bathrooms and get back to work.
When Taehyung returns minutes later he starts shoving his things in his bag. “I’m leaving.”
“Why?”
“This is like the epicenter of hot smart men and I refuse to suffer any longer.”
“You got Jungkook’s number,” you deadpan.
Taehyung can’t hide his own shit eating grin. “Yoongi gave it to me.”
“If you’re leaving, so am I.”
“Why?” your roommate whines.
“Because I got you a hot date and that means you owe me dinner.”
“Technically it was Yoongi but I’ll concede.” Taehyung heaves his bag up. “Come now my dearest, we can still get happy hour if we hurry.”
You reach in your own bag and toss him your keys. “Go wait in the car. I’ve gotta go grab another book real quick.”
“Whatever,” Taehyung says, mumbling something like ‘nerds’ under his breath as he heads downstairs.
You find Yoongi while on your way to his desk, already toting around the cart piled high with returns from the day. Several of the covers are Taehyung’s picks and somehow the knowledge they’ve spoken almost knocks you off kilter. Taehyung is a good wingman and that’s what worries you most.
“Hi,” he says, kneeling to put a book on a low shelf.
It shouldn’t have the effect it does but something about the way Yoongi looks up at you, on his knees, head tipped back, has your mind running wild with the image of him in the same position with both of you wearing far less clothing. Maybe if you weren’t interrupted in the staff lounge you’d have seen it in real life.
“Hi. Mind if I add these to the pile?”
“Go ahead.”
The Stocking was Hung sits on top. You don’t wait around to see his reaction.
The temperature had steadily been increasing over the past weeks but this morning is the worst of all. That inescapable warmth fully seeded overnight and promised the comforting days of sweaters and pants are long gone.
Heat makes you lazy and fitful. In the early hours, long before you actually need to be awake, you stare up at the ceiling of your room. Not even a frigid shower helped the stickiness of your skin or laying still in your bed in nothing but one of Taehyung’s shirts and ratty shorts. It followed you everywhere until you left for the same brick building you spend more time at than at home.
Without thought, you throw on the first seasonally appropriate outfit in your closet; a thin dress that covers enough for the public but promises to keep you cool.
Yoongi seems to be taking the change in weather as well as you are. His usual attire is absent, nothing but a white shirt clinging to his torso. The pale skin of his forearms briefly catches your attention but you focus anywhere else to stop from rounding the desk and finishing what started upstairs.
You steel yourself and approach the desk, determined to act normal.
Familiar dark eyes flash up to greet you but Yoongi’s mouth doesn’t form any words. He just stares at you. You can feel the weight of his gaze on your shoulders, your neck, and then he pointedly keeps them trained on your eyes. Like he's willing to pretend yesterday didn’t happen.
He doesn’t speak when he passes over the same pile of books as yesterday but you can feel him burn a hole in your back. Even after you climb up the stairs and out of sight, the prickling sensation you’re being watched follows.
You don’t get anything done. The words on the page might as well be another language as your mind races.
Yoongi didn’t give you an extra book today.
An endless list of potential explanations race through your mind. Maybe you’d been too forward with your choice. Maybe he’s gotten it out of his system, a quick tryst in the employee lounge enough to satiate his curiosity. Maybe because it’s the second time you’ve brushed him off. Even if it wasn’t your fault Jungkook stumbled in before anything worthwhile could happen.
But he isn’t speaking to you and he isn’t giving you the random book you’ve come to look forward to every morning.
Channeling the restless energy of overthinking, you take a lap around the floor. You pause to flip through random books as you zigzag through the stacks. Anything to take your mind off the unshakable tension sticking in the air like syrup.
Your laptop is in sleep mode by the time you reluctantly come back. Everything is as you left except a book you’ve never seen before sits on top of the open one you’d been reading.
There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom.
A sticky note sticks up from the inside of the cover. A bolt of excitement shoots down your spine. When you flip it open a familiar handwriting stares back: ‘on the seventh floor’.
You hadn’t been gone too long but the fear of making him wait has you rushing up the stairs. Each step brings you closer to where he waits until you’re opening the bathroom door.
“Yoongi?”
A hand wraps around your upper arm, yanking you in. Another hand silences a surprised shout before you realize it’s Yoongi and not a murderer pinning you to the interior of the door you just came through.
“Jesus, you scared me.”
“Sorry,” he breathes. “It’s just not a good look for me to be up here.”
“Oh, really?” You smile. “And why is that?”
“This is my job.”
“Didn’t seem to stop you before.”
“Who says it’s stopping me now?”
He thumbs the strap of your dress, hooking under the thin material and dragging it down your arm. The heat and weight of Yoongi against you, touching you so simply, makes you vibrate. Yoongi moves into your neck, panting with a grind against your thigh. “I swear I don’t usually do this.”
You want to argue that you have two accounts that he does do this often, at least with you. But for someone who says they don’t, Yoongi is surprisingly natural. The tease prickling the end of your tongue fizzles out under his teeth across the curve of your shoulder, goosebumps blossoming along your back.
A whimper unbecoming of an adult woman breaks the lullaby of summer air conditioner singing through the vents. You’re sweating under the cling of your dress, skin hot to the touch thanks to Yoongi’s attention; long fingers curved around your waist, thumbs skimming just under your breast.
“Could have fooled me.”
“This is a very nice dress.” His mouth bites down your neck, taking advantage of the new strips of skin the neckline unveils.
“That’s all it takes?” you pant from the wet of his tongue. “A pretty dress?”
“If you think,” he whispers into your ear. “I’m doing this because of your dress then you really haven’t been paying attention.”
The dark locks of his hair are too alluring to resist, tempting one of your own hands to scratch against the tip of his spine when Yoongi rolls against you again. A firm tug brings him to your mouth, lips molding to one another in a searing kiss. You can taste the coffee from the lounge and the faintest hint of cigarette smoke, like he thought to hide it before asking you to follow him.
“How long? How long have you wanted this?”
Yoongi hooks one of your thighs higher, savoring the heat of your core against the crotch of his pants with a slow thrust. “Since you came in and busted my balls over not having that archived manuscript when the website said we did.”
You remember that day. Patience thin from Taehyung’s loud overnight guest, you stormed into the library looking to take it out on a photocopy of the manuscript only for the only copy to be AWOL. Yoongi became the surrogate for your rage, his eyes burning into your skull as questioned how he could let it happen.
The next day was when he started adding books to your stack.
“That was months ago.”
“I’m a patient guy.”
You want him naked; ache to catalog what he’s hidden underneath bulky sweaters and loose button ups over the past few months. But that idea has to wait for somewhere less risky. You settle for dipping your hand under his shirt, tracing your fingers over the elastic of his boxers peeking from the waistband of his pants.
Attempting to hide the effect he has, you loop your fingers in his belt loops and pull him even closer so your face is hidden in the crook of his neck. “There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom? A little on the nose, don’t you think?”
“Like The Stocking was Hung is any better?” Yoongi sighs as your mouth ghosts over the rising vein webbing the side of his throat.
“Hey!” you object, rising to face him. “I thought you’d appreciate it after that mothman book.”
“I appreciate you complimenting my dick plenty.”
Yoongi doesn’t let you go, hands palming at the swell of your ass the entire way from the door to the counter. He’s got one hand curved along your jaw, thumb hooked around your chin and his teeth bruising your lower lip. The edge of granite digs in your spine but not for long as he lifts you and settles on his knees to dive under your skirt.
He kisses up your calf, tongue snaking across the knob of your knee then the plush of your thigh. Just when you feel a puff of breath against the damp crotch of your panties, Yoongi falls to repeat the same path against your other leg.
You don’t suffer for long. Pooling the excess fabric around your waist, Yoongi blinks up from between your thighs. The pink of his tongue follows the edge of your panties, wetting the fabric more until it clings obscenely.
He pushes his glasses up to rest on the top of his head, keeping the mess of gray and black hair out of his eyes before diving back down.
His tongue lathers over your covered slit with a groan. “Taste better than I imagined.”
“You thought about this?”
“Couldn’t stop thinking about it. On my desk, yours, against that fucking bookshelf.” Yoongi punctures each word with more wet kisses against your core. “In my car, my bed. Everywhere.”
A cool breath has your thighs squeezing around his head thanks to the erotic combination of his spit and your own fluids drenching your panties. “Is this all you think about?”
“I had to come up here and jerk off yesterday because I couldn’t stop thinking about your hands.”
Your panties are pulled to the side before you can indulge in the new visual blooming on the edge of consciousness. “Yoongi.”
Eyes closed, his mouth circles your clit, tongue gently stroking you to life. Every pass against the sensitive bundle of nerves has your thighs squeezing around his head.
The first prod of fingers makes Yoongi’s hold on the crook of your knee tighten. He stretches you back open, eyes following the way you suck him inside; coating his spindly digits with more arousal each time.
“A-ah,” you shake. “Please.”
Yoongi chances a glance up at your face, the needy sheen in your eyes, the way your mouth gapes, and decides to take mercy.
He latches back onto your clit. Yoongi groans as you tug his hair, knocking his glasses to the ground. The pace he works your remains lethargic, savoring the kick of your hips until you grind against his mouth.
Throaty groans vibrate against your cunt, tightening the muscles along the inside of your thighs. Neither of you are doing a good job muffling yourselves but if it’s between getting caught and having him stop then you’ll deal with the consequences when they come.
“Oh, Yoongi.” Your chest pulls tight; spurred on by the sounds of Yoongi bullying your insides, his mouth smacking against your folds. “I’m— oh, oh, oh!”
The rough crook of his fingers sends you flying. Only the pressure of his shoulders keep you from slipping off the counter as you explode against his mouth. Euphoria rushes your veins, licks of pleasure overwhelming. Every muscle quivers as Yoongi works you through until you use his hair to pull him away.
He’s quick on his feet. You’re still recovering as Yoongi pushes your bra down and draws one of your nipples into his mouth, licking and sucking until you pull his hair again. Eyes cinched tight, face wet, you force his pants open then his underwear until Yoongi is almost as exposed as you are; pretty in your palm, sticky and hot to the touch.
But it’s not enough to feel him in your hand, you need to feel him inside. To fill you up where you sit hollow and aching without his fingers to provide a sliver of relief. “Fuck me.”
Yoongi doesn’t tease, has no quip about how needy you are. He keeps his mouth on your chest and uses his hands to grab something out of his pocket. It happens so fast you don’t even realize the condom is on until he nudges between your legs.
Your nails dig into his back, breathing through the initial stretch is the only way you stay quiet. Yoongi hides himself back in your neck, strained noises clawing out of his throat.
Yoongi isn’t gentle. Not caution or waiting. Months of push and pull destroy any desire for him to treat you as something fragile. He rushes into desperately, forcing your palm flat against the mirror behind you for some semblance of stability.
“God,” he grunts. “You’re incredible.”
You whimper a quiet acknowledgement, too fucked out to blush under his praise; pulling Yoongi closer until he’s scooping his hands underneath your ass, thrusting into you over and over. His mouth finds yours. Greedy. Hungry.
It’s Yoongi who struggles to stay quiet. Even through the kiss he moans loud enough you feel it in your throat. You listen to them all, twisting the hand knotted in his hair to hear the whine you’ve quickly become obsessed with.
“Should have done this sooner,” your back arches and Yoongi’s mouth slips back down.
“I tried. But you kept ignoring me.”
“I wasn’t—fuck—ignoring you.” Yoongi is everywhere. His taste on your mouth, cologne burned in your nose. The feel of him all over your body. “Shit.”
He fucks you harder to prove a point, hand slipping down to rub your clit. Your second orgasm glows on the edges. If Yoongi keeps playing with you, stretching you in half on his cock and biting a mark into your breast, you know you’ll come.
You focus on breathing. Letting it come to you instead of chasing it, overthinking it to the point it evades you. It’s easier than usual. Yoongi doesn't leave room for anything else beyond feeling good.
“Oh my god,” you whisper as the cord tightens.
Everything turns white hot, pleasure tearing through your muscles and ripping them to shreds. You convulse in Yoongi’s hold, only pinned down by his hips fucking you brutally. Nerves shot, Yoongi babbles praise in your ear but it's indecipherable from the headrush.
Yoongi follows you over the edge a few strokes later, twitching inside you until he stills. His hips give a few arrhythmic bucks as he fills the condom with his load.
There's something nastier about clothed sex. The way sweat makes your clothes cling tighter, the rush of needing each other so badly you can’t be bothered to do more than pull things to the side.
You feel dirty but in a good way. Yoongi kisses across the apples of your cheeks, your chin, your forehead, even your brows, but never returns to your lips. Each leaves you more frustrated than the last, muscles twitching beneath and head turning at the last second to try and meet his mouth.
Tricking you with a brief connection, he laughs when you chase his lips as he dodgers back. But a pout and whine bring him back into your orbit.
He cleans you up with paper towels, wiping away the mess between your thighs with something akin to disappointment. But he doesn’t complain as he fixes your clothes and then his own. Muscles like jelly, you fall into his side when he helps you down from the counter.
With a kiss to your temple, “Let's get out of here.”
“Morning, Yoongi.” You smile as you walk up to his desk.
A set of dark eyes rise to greet you, taking the cup of coffee you so graciously offer before smiling as well. “Good morning.”
Jungkook gawks like he’s never seen you two speak before. Round eyes bounce between you and Yoongi as if it’s a tennis match instead of a normal conversation. Probably because Yoongi was less than subtle when he pulled you out of the building yesterday, telling him to call Namjoon if anything came up.
Or maybe because you’re wearing one of Yoongi’s shirts.
You discovered much about the mysterious librarian overnight. He’d taken you back to his apartment; a perfect extension of himself decorated with dark furniture and more books than anyone could possibly read. Yoongi owned a collection of vinyl records that rivaled his book collection, he was a great cook, and he was studying to take the entrance exam for law school.
After you were wined and dined, Yoongi dedicated hours between your legs. On his couch, against the massive bookcase in his living room, between the sheets of his bed.
He also had a kink for eating you out while you explained your thesis in precise detail.
You’d only been allowed to leave when Yoongi was getting ready for work, not that you'd put up much argument.
You make a scene of sorting through the stack he slides over. It’s not that you don’t trust Yoongi. But now that you’ve had a taste, you’re addicted to his presence. But he unfortunately can’t follow you upstairs so you savor the time now.
“One of my books is missing,” you say.
“Oh, right.”
Yoongi passes over an unfamiliar copy.
Maybe He Just Likes You
And the blue sticky note attached, with his handwriting. ‘Dinner when you're done?’

♥━━━━━━━━━━━♡━━━━━━━━━━━━♥
"Yoongi... I never drink this much!" You whine pitifully, letting him lead you into your apartment where he turns the lights on for you before he closes the door, all while you cling onto him.
"I know." He simply reassures softly, well aware that you really do not actually drink that much. But you're also easily swayed by social pressure - always aiming to please people, especially if you're in a situation that's unfamiliar.
"Those guys were nice though.. why were you so mean to them?" You wonder with anpout while trying to undo the small buckle of your heels with a pout, not having much luck. Yoongi sighs.
He was mean to them- that's the tamest way of describing his words towards the group of vampires that had been filling you up with liquor only to get you weak and complacent for whatever sick and twisted shit they would've done to you later. Yoongi doesn't like that you're so easy to manipulate, but you're an adult and you usually stay away from things like that. But then, your date never showed up, and suddenly it all went downhill from there.
Luckily he texted you, just to make sure you're alright.
"Yoongii-..." you whine his name again when he carries you to to your convertible sofa, pulling out one of the sides because there's no way in hell he can actually get you into your bed like this. He unbuckles your shoes before he takes them off, putting them safely to the side where you can't stumble over them, while you already wiggle around, trying to get comfortable, and that's all fine-
Until you begin to slip out of one of your dresses straps hanging over your shoulder, his hand lighting fast at putting it back where it belongs. "Yoongi~!" You complain, trying to pry his hand off. "I wanna get out of this it's too tight-" You whine, and he sighs.
Too tight is right. The way it stretches over your behind and chest is sinful to say the least, making him shake his head as he forces himself not to look at your cleavage.
"I know love, but-" He sighs, realizing there is no other way to help, really. "I'll help you out alright?" He shakes his head, especially when you happily nod, as he puts a blanket from the side of the sofa over your shoulders, holding it shut. "Now you can get out of it." He instructs calmly, still averting his gaze though as to not catch any glimpse of you by accident. Only when the dress hits the floor does he swallow thickly, painfully aware just how almost naked you are underneath the blanket that he's holding. He could drop it now, paint it as an accident-
But he won't take advantage of you like that.
You and Yoongi are connected by technically less than fortunate events- his first blood high a horrible experience as he'd been left alone with his emotions and everything because the person he was with simply didn't care about anything but their own pleasure. He felt disgusting, used, and ever since then he'd never bitten anybody ever again, strictly sticking to his monthly schedule of getting pre-packaged and measured amounts of blood from Banks.
But what did that have to do with you?
Well, you found him when he was at his lowest, no job, no future, uncaring of anything any longer. He had nothing to his name, and yet, you bought him something to eat walked him home like a lost dog, and gave him your number just to make sure he'd be alright. And all that after having been attacked by a vampire not even a week prior, as you would reveal to him a few months later.
It made him awfully protective of you.
As he lets you pull a shirt over your head that he fetched from your bedroom (he just grabbed whatever was still on your bed, he'd never dare roam around in your closet because God have mercy on him if he stumbled over your underwear- that'll surely give him wet dreams like he's nothing but a boy stuck in puberty for sure), he makes sure to leave the bathroom door open in case you'd get sick later tonight- when you pull on his sleeve.
"Hm?" He looks down at you, where your gaze is distant.
Before you smile in an almost somber manner. "You won't stay- even if I ask, right?" You wonder, and he sighs.
"You're drunk." He argues softly.
"I know, I know.." you shake your head, letting go of him.
He knows he likes you as more than a friend. He really did fall in love with you along the way. But considering how your friendship started- he feels like it would be wrong to ask you out now. You're so sweet all the time- the chance that you'll say yes to him just because you don't want to hurt his feelings is more than just high.
He's almost certain you'd do just that.
And so he waits for you to make a move. Give him a sign. Anything so he knows you do actually like him back.
But how the fuck is he going to know what those signs look like, when all you do already seems to imply that you like him?

Of Storms And Vampires // Ch. 1
Pairings: Vampire!Yoongi x Witch!Reader x Vampire!Jungkook
Summary: During the worst storm you have witnessed in your life, a bat crashes on your window. When you bring it inside your cottage to take care of it, you realize it isn't simply a bat but a baby vampire. Your past has come back to haunt you because Jungkook's sire is no one else but Min Yoongi, who you had left behind when you disappeared five years ago.
Genre: fluff, angst
Word Count: 9.1k+
The wind howled outside with the voice of a thousand lost souls. You had read somewhere that the breeze and the sounds of the night were the dead singing. If that were true, tonight they were screaming.
The storm had hit in the afternoon in full force, getting only worse since then. In seconds, the first few droplets turned into arrows of water falling from the heavens. Dark clouds overtook the sky, wiping out the sun and bringing the night early. Lightning struck every few minutes followed by loud thunder that sounded too close for comfort. You had sensed the storm brewing a few days ago but only yesterday you had realized how strong it was going to be. It was like all the rage of the Gods had been released at once.
The rain splattered on the windowpane relentlessly, a constant murmuring in the background interrupted only by the thunder. You could cast a silencing spell but you needed to be aware of what was happening outside and the sounds were comforting in a way. It was the music of lonely nights and disasters.
You were curled up in the overstuffed armchair next to the fireplace, a book on kitchen magic leaning on your thighs. The fire flickered and danced, flaming tendrils reaching for above. It was a calm night for you, almost peaceful. You had been casting protections against the storm on your house, your garden, and the small farmhouse of your animals for days. There was nothing to worry about, you were more than safe. But your mind kept going to the town. It was the worst storm this part of the world had seen in decades.
You flipped the page to the recipe for an antipyretic potion and breathed in the smoky scent of burning firewood. Your eyes scanned over the ingredients of the potion and you considered how it could be improved to better fit your magic, without losing its essence. It was hard changing existing recipes and spells but when done right, it could be very rewarding.
You sensed the presence before you heard the thud. It was small and weak, pulsing in flashes. Something had hit your window but you had only seen a black blur before it disappeared. You closed the book and lowered your feet from the couch, listening for any more noises. None followed. The rain continued like before.
The aura of something—someone—, that hadn't been there before persisted. You had to see what it was, maybe it was an injured animal that needed your help. The forest would lead them to you sometimes, both animals and humans in need.
You wrapped your black cloak around yourself and raised the hood. It was woven with enchanted thread for protection and stitched with intentions of blending in with your surroundings. The protection applied to the weather as well, it wouldn't completely spare you from the heavy rain but it would be more like going out during a mild rainfall instead of getting drenched within seconds.
Outside, the world was dark and ominous. Trees lurched and bent under the force of the wind, its strength was enough to uproot some smaller and more frail ones. The rain bounced off your cloak and thunder boomed overhead. You shielded your lantern underneath your cloak and, with your boots sinking into the wet earth, moved carefully toward where you had heard the sound. At first, you didn't see it in the darkness but when your eyes adjusted, you noticed the outline of the crumbled figure underneath the window.
The creature was small and it was shivering, probably both by the cold and the fear of the storm. You approached slowly, trying to seem non-threatening. It was a small bat, one of its wings bent at a weird angle and the other hiding its face.
"Hello, little guy," you said, sending some of your energy to the bat to soothe it. The wind swept your voice away but you still tried. "I'm going to have to pick you up and take you inside. You can't stay out here in the storm."
With a short incantation, you enchanted the lantern to float in place and slid one hand underneath the bat's small form, covering it gently with your other hand. It struggled a little but settled soon. By touch, you understood two things. It wasn't a normal bat but, in your hands, you were holding a vampire. And it was a very young one.
"I'm going to take care of you," you promised, cradling the vampire close to your chest. "You don't have to be afraid."
You rushed back inside, careful not to jostle him. You unclasped your coat, took off your boots at the entrance, and carried the baby vampire into the living room, sitting down on the armchair near the fire. His small body was trembling and the fire would calm the cold leeching on his bones. You laid him on your thighs to take a quick look at his injuries. There were a couple you could see at first glance, one of his wings was broken and there was a shallow gash on his belly.
You touched his forehead with two fingers and transferred some more of your energy to him. The vampire flinched but when he felt life seeping into his veins, his eyes—which were larger than any other bat you had seen—widened, looking at you in wonder.
“Stay here,” you advised, laying him on the armchair as you got up. “I’ll be back with a few things to treat your injuries. Don’t move too much.”
You kept most of your potions and salves in the kitchen, they were in jars and tins of various sizes stored in your cabinets. Various herbs tied together with thick strings were hanging from the ceiling and potted plants lined the windowsills. The counters were cluttered with multiple ingredients for potions and spells, from the most common ones like dried daisies, mint, and sea glass to some rare—or mostly avoided—ones like bleeding nightshade, dragon hair, and heart crystals.
You opened the cabinet that contained most of your medicinal potions and a few salves. You skimmed over the labels, reciting their properties in your head and contemplating which ones would be better suited for a vampire. In the end, you grabbed a vial of dark green liquid and a small bottle, the inside of which was reflective like a mirror. The first one was to fight off the effects of the cold, it wasn’t easy for vampires to get sick but the vampire was young and he had probably spent too much time in the storm. The second one was to ease the pain and speed up healing and its effects could last for as long as twelve hours. Before returning to the living room, you grabbed a platinum tin containing a salve that would accelerate the process of the skin stitching together.
The baby vampire had obediently stayed where you had left him, his eyes were half-closed and he was still shaking. There was a small pang in your heart for him. Baby vampires weren’t supposed to be alone for more than a few hours, they needed the presence of their sire like humans needed air. But here he was, alone in the forest with a witch and his sire nowhere in sight.
“I’m back,” you said softly. The vampire opened his eyes a little and turned his head in your direction. His eyes were so bright, much brighter than any vampire you had ever met. “I need to take care of your injuries now. You need to drink these, they are going to help you heal.”
The vampire eyed the potions but, surprisingly, he didn’t put up a fight, opening his mouth.
“Good boy,” you said and if the vampire was in his human form, you were sure he would be blushing. As much as vampires could blush. You poured the green potion in his mouth first and when he swallowed, he made a face of disgust. “I know it doesn’t taste great but it’s one of the best potions for this.” He tilted his head and to distract him, you started explaining to him what the properties of each potion were.
You applied the salve on his wound with careful fingers, he whimpered but didn’t snap at you like you had expected. He was pretty docile for a young vampire, who could get violent away from their sire’s protection. Then, you made a small cast out of some cloth for his wing.
“By tomorrow night, you will be able to shift back. We can see how much your arm has been affected then. But I believe you will make a quick recovery,” you said and the bat let out a chirp. “Please, in the future, avoid going out before or during storms. Your bat form isn’t strong enough to withstand this kind of weather. You’re very lucky you hit my window.” He made a squeaking sound and lowered his head at your admonishment. “I’ll be back in a minute.”
Some of the most sensitive ingredients were kept in the refrigerator that was powered by magic. One of those ingredients, stored in a large jar, was human blood. It was one of the ingredients that was frowned upon but was necessary for your type of magic and a very powerful asset. You poured a good amount into a bowl and put the rest back in the fridge.
The scent of blood made the vampire’s head shoot up as soon as you walked into the living room. “Stay there, I’m bringing it to you.” The vampire made a few more chirping noises as you carried the bowl and set it in front of him. He looked at you and when you nodded, he dived head-first into the blood. “It isn’t fresh but it will have to do. I know that baby vampires need blood.”
He gulped down the blood hungrily and when the bowl was licked clean, he looked at you with his large eyes.
“That’s enough for now. I’ll give you more later,” you said, picking up the bowl. “Now, rest.”
Vampires stayed in nests with their sires while they were still young, so you tried to make a mock nest for the small bat. On the floor by the fireplace, you bunched up a fluffy blanket, placed two pillows on top, and laid the vampire inside. You thought you heard him sigh as he settled, making himself comfortable. After the events of the day and the two potions, it didn’t take long for him to fall asleep.
Near this side of the forest, there was only one small town from where he could have got lost. You tried to remember if there were any vampires that lived in the town but came up blank. You didn’t visit the town often and your interactions with its inhabitants were rare. Whatever you learned about them, you learned from Seokjin, who took it up to himself to fill you in on all the gossip he could remember. And he had a very strong memory.
You stayed in the living room for a while longer, picking up the magic book where you left off and throwing glances at the bat every few pages. He was sleeping soundlessly, shifting only when thunder struck somewhere nearby. Soon, you closed the book again and after adjusting the blanket around the vampire’s small form, you retired to your room for the night.
The next morning, you woke up to the sounds of the storm raging outside. The wind whipped the roof and the walls and the rain falling was enough to fill up a river. Outside the window of your bedroom, the world was being suffocated in gray. The sun had disappeared, hidden behind the endless expanse of dark clouds. The storm would last through the day and hopefully calm during the night. However, the signs showed that it wouldn’t be gone soon.
You dressed for the day and braided your hair to keep it out of your face. There were things you had to do, despite the storm outside. Most importantly, there was a baby vampire that needed your attention in the living room.
Said vampire was awake and lazying around in his makeshift nest. He blinked slowly at you before letting out a couple of chirps, shaking his not-injured wing in what you guessed was the bat equivalent to waving at you. You had to admit that he was adorable as he greeted you enthusiastically.
“Good morning. How are you feeling? Did you sleep well?” you asked and the bat nodded his head. He gestured to his belly with his wing and you were glad to see that the skin was already stitching itself together. “This looks good, you are healing quickly. By nightfall, it will only be a small scar and that will go away soon too. But you will still need to be careful, don’t go flying into a storm again.” He squeaked lowly and lowered his head, making you giggle. “Now, let me take a look at your wing.”
His wing was also healing nicely and, as you had predicted, he would be able to turn back into his human form, if he wanted to, by the end of the day. It would make communication much easier although you weren’t sure if you would prefer that over the cute bat. You had found over the years living alone in your cottage in the forest that you were better at interacting with animals than with people.
You let go of his wing and the vampire squeaked and pointed to his belly and then his mouth.
“Are you hungry? Do you want some blood?” you asked and he responded by pleased chirping. “Okay, I’ll bring some to you since you have been a good patient.”
You poured some blood for him in the same bowl as yesterday. The jar of human blood was enough to get you through more than a year of potions and spells but it could barely last for two days as the main food source of a vampire, especially a young one that needed feeding regularly. You hoped the storm would ease by tomorrow and you would be able to look for his sire. You would have to be on guard because sires were overprotective of their fledglings and if they believed you had been keeping them apart for no reason, it could get ugly.
You placed the bowl in front of the vampire, who chirped in thanks and started drinking messily. Blood stained the fur around his mouth and he looked almost angry at how good the blood tasted. For now, your priority was to take care of him, you would have to worry about his sire later.
While the vampire was drinking his blood, you bustled around the kitchen. You made a quick and simple breakfast for yourself, a cup of tea with ginseng for energy and bread with homemade strawberry jam. Like every morning, you lit up a fire in the hearth and filled your cauldron with water and a crystalline blue powder you had made for cleansing. Something was always brewing in a witch’s cauldron.
You were going to make a specialized potion for the little vampire to enhance his healing abilities. The effects of the one you had given him last night would have worn off and personalized potions were more effective. Opening and closing cupboards and drawers, you gathered a few of the ingredients you would use, consulting a recipe from a magic book focused on magical creatures.
After a few minutes, the cauldron was clean and ready for work. You measured the first few ingredients and put them in. They needed to boil a couple of hours on their own before you added a pinch of dried rosemary and red oyster mushrooms. Brewing potions was like performing a ritual, it wasn’t only about the ingredients and the quantities, it was about the timing, the intentions, and each action itself. You had to sense what the potion needed and how it needed it done. Some potions could take days to make and the more difficult ones could be ruined by a single wrong move or even a bad thought. It was a delicate process but you enjoyed it.
The rain persisted but you had to go outside to feed the animals and make sure that their protections were holding up. The storm must have scared them and your presence would calm them.
The vampire had closed his eyes again, the bowl in front of him empty. He opened one eye to look at you and as you picked up the bowl to return it to the kitchen, he bumped his head against your hand.
“Do you like petting?” you asked, stroking between his ears. He closed his eyes and wiggled happily at the attention. “You do, don’t you? You are really cute, such a cute bat.” He preened at the praise and you cooed. “I’ll go outside for a bit but I’ll be back soon, okay?”
The vampire chirped in answer although he didn’t seem happy to be deprived of petting. You threw on your cloak to protect yourself from the wild weather outside and made your way to the small farmhouse.
It was only a few meters away from the house, through a cobblestone path that at least saved your boots from sinking in the mud. The farmhouse had been there when Seokjin had first led you to this place but it had been in a much worse condition than the house. The roof had crumpled in and the walls would have followed soon, leaving nothing but a heap of decayed wood. The renovations lasted a couple of months, accomplished mostly by you, Seokjin, Jimin, and a few people from the town that Seokjin had called when he realized there were a few things that, magic or not, you simply couldn’t do.
The ground of the farmhouse was dry, evidence that your protection spells were still holding strong. The familiar sounds of the animals greeted you, the bleating and the clucking, the hooves against the ground, and the flapping of wings. There were ten chickens, six goats, and Daisy, your horse, who had got her name from her fondness of eating daisies. They all had their own fenced areas with enough space to roam and stretch their limbs—the fence of the chicken coop almost reached the ceiling because your chickens could somehow fly much higher than normal chickens could.
You visited all of the animals, petting them and replenishing their food. None of them liked the thunder and the wind howling but, luckily, they understood they were safe inside. They surrounded you and you spoke softly to them. You weren’t an animal witch but you were good with them. You had learned quickly and you had been surprised to find that animals enjoyed your company.
Last, you went to Daisy. You stroked her neck, fed her apples, and promised to take her on a long walk to the fields at the end of the forest and let her gallop for as long as she liked. Forests weren’t the most suitable places for horses but Daisy seemed to like it well enough as long as you took her to the fields from time to time.
Returning to the house, you found the vampire squirming and agitated. Apparently, he didn’t like staying still for such a long time, so you carried him with you to the kitchen. His eyes followed you while you worked on the potion so you started explaining to him what you were doing. You weren’t sure how much he understood or how much he knew about witchcraft but he was an attentive audience. He made sounds whenever you said something interesting and he stopped hopping around the counter whenever you told him to.
For lunch, you heated up some leftover tomato soup from the previous day and you fed the bat a plum. Once upon a time, there was a vampire you had been close with, or you had been getting there, and he had told you that plums were his favorite food to eat when he was in bat form. The little one on your table must be the same because he devoured it.
He kept you company for the rest of the day and at some point he somehow ended up clinging on your shoulder and refused to budge. He didn’t weigh much so you didn’t mind and you guessed he was missing his sire and needed some contact to stay grounded.
In the afternoon, the potion was ready. First, you poured the potion into the bat’s mouth like you had done the previous night and then filled his bowl with blood. Your work in the kitchen was done and you returned to the living room, settling in the armchair. The vampire curled up in your lap and you petted his head while you flipped through a random book from your stack on the floor. You had run out of space so your books were everywhere now. You should hire someone to make more shelves for you.
The vampire was getting drowsy so you left him in the armchair and you went to the kitchen to make a cup of tea for yourself. It was part of your routine to have a cup of tea along with some baked goods in the afternoon. Living away from civilization, you had discovered the comfort of mundane moments and the importance of a nice routine.
You boiled water and looked through your jars of tea. They were your own varieties, you had mixed their ingredients with light enchantments to boost their benefits. Black tea was one of your favorites to drink in the afternoon so you chose one with maple and vanilla pieces, hazelnuts, nutmeg and honeybush. It was fitting for the weather. The sweet honey fragrance mingled with vanilla tickled your nose when you opened the jar. You filled the teapot with the hot water and added two tablespoons of tea to the infuser.
In the 4 minutes the tea required to brew, you cut a piece of the apple pie you had made yesterday and plated it. The aroma of the soft, spiced apples and the brown sugar drifted in the kitchen. A tiny bit of magic kept anything you baked as fresh as the day they were pulled out of the oven. Another thing you discovered while living in the forest was your love for baking. When you lived in the city, you had dabbled in baking, occasionally baking chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon rolls, but it wasn’t until you moved here that you truly fell in love with it.
You arranged everything in a tray, along with a smaller cup in case the vampire wanted to try, but you stopped short at the door to the living room. The tray almost slipped from your hands at the sight of a young man sitting where the little bat used to be. He looked young, with large eyes and messy dark hair that reached past his ears. A silver ring glinted on his bottom lip and more silver earrings adorned both of his ears. He was wearing all black and you could see the beginnings of a tattoo underneath the sleeve of his sweatshirt.
“Hi,” he said, sheepishly waving at you. “I’m sorry. Did I scare you? I didn’t mean to.”
You had to get yourself together, you had known since the beginning that it wasn’t a regular bat you were treating but a vampire that would need to turn back into his other form at some point. You had expected it, it was obvious that it would happen at some point. You shouldn’t be surprised. But you hadn’t expected him to look… like that.
“You didn’t scare me, I was just surprised,” you said, keeping your voice steady. “Sorry, I didn’t expect to see you in this form.”
He fidgeted with his sleeves, making himself smaller. “Did you like my other form better? I can change back. It just makes me feel a little weird when I’m a bat for too long. But I can change back, I can.”
“No, no,” you rushed to say. “I don’t mind really. This form is nice as well.”
Mentally, you slapped yourself, you couldn’t be more awkward if you tried. At least, the vampire looked pleased at that, a small smile making its way to his face. It was unfair that he was cute even in his human form.
You approached and put the tray down on the coffee table. “It’s good that you are back in this form. Now, we can finally meet. What is your name?”
“Jungkook,” the vampire replied shyly and you offered your own name. “I wanted to say thank you for taking care of me. I don’t know what I would have done if you hadn’t taken me in. I’m not sure if I would have made it.” His smile tightened and you shuddered just thinking about it. “I’m really thankful for everything. If there is any way for me to repay you, I will do anything.”
“There is no need for that. I wanted to help you and it was the right thing to do. Just promise me you will be careful in the future. Your bat form is small and you saw how dangerous storms can be for you.”
Jungkook nodded, abashed. “I won’t, I promise. I thought I had some time before it hit and I wanted to explore the forest. I’m really sorry.”
“You don’t need to be sorry to me, it’s you who was flung from tree to tree last night.” He chuckled a little at that. “Do you want some tea? It’s black with maple and vanilla.”
“Yes, please,” he said politely.
You picked up the black ceramic teapot and paused. “I brought a cup for you because I thought you would be in your bat form. Would you like a mug?”
“No, no, the cup is fine,” Jungkook insisted.
You poured some into the cup first and then into your mug. The cup was from the same set as the teapot, black and with the same engravings of flowers and vines. Your mug was a gift from Seokjin during his pottery phase, like many of his obsessions you weren’t sure how or why it started. It was weird cups at first that looked like melting pieces of clay but he got pretty good by the end. Before he moved on to his next obsession, he was able to make things like your mug, which was shaped like a cauldron and he and Jimin had painted it to look like the night sky.
Jungkook hugged his cup in his hands, bringing it close to his face. He breathed in the sweet aroma of tea and closed his eyes in delight.
“Do you want some honey or sugar?” you asked, taking a seat on the couch. “I usually drink my own without and I didn’t think to bring any.”
“No, it’s okay.” He took the first sip and you could tell that it wasn’t okay. He frowned, but not in the way you had seen when he was drinking blood, and pursed his lips. He didn’t say anything but it was clear he was trying to pretend that it wasn’t too bitter for him.
You chuckled and set your mug down. “I’ll bring some honey for you.”
“Thank you,” Jungkook said, wincing subtly.
You got the jar of honey from the kitchen and added two teaspoons to his tea. That way, he liked it enough that he asked for a refill. While you drank your tea together, he explained to you that he was in town for a few days visiting some friends with his sire. He had spent all of his life in the city and the small town and the forest fascinated him. He knew that there was a storm coming but he hadn’t realized the extent of it. He had been planning to go for a quick flight to stretch his wings before it hit, he hadn’t got to explore the forest yet and he was curious. Unfortunately, the storm hit early and the wind had dragged him deeper into the darkness.
“I thought I wouldn’t make it out,” he admitted quietly, holding his cup close to his chest. “It was so strong and so loud and I couldn’t fight it. I’m not very strong in my bat form, I’m still young and I don’t have much practice. I couldn’t hold on to anything and I couldn’t find shelter. I was thinking about my sire and how sad he would be. He must be very worried.”
The bond between sires and their fledglings was very strong and for the first months after the turning, some sires wouldn’t even let their fledgling out of their sight. For years, the sires would take care of the younger vampires, help them adjust, and teach them everything about their new life. It wasn’t commonly understood but sires needed their fledglings as much as their fledglings needed them. You had read that there was a part of them, an echo of their own blood from the turning in their fledgling’s bloodstream, that called for them to be by their side.
“The storm is messing up with any means of magical communication but as soon as it calms a little, I can send a message to town,” you offered. “We can let him know you’re safe here until the worst passes and you can safely return to town. The townspeople know me, it will be alright.”
“Thank you.” You had lost count of how many times he had thanked you since he had changed forms.
You finished your tea and roped him into a game of cards to distract him from the thoughts of his sire. He got engrossed into the game quickly and he won two out of the three rounds you played. He had a competitive streak and he learned quickly the rules of every game you taught him.
It had been a few months since you had played cards with someone. Jimin had been the one to teach you and you had only ever played with him and Seokjin. It was fun to share this with someone else, even when he pouted when he lost. You didn’t care about winning very much so you didn’t mind and his excitement when he won was heart-warming to watch.
He jumped when loud thunder cracked through the night and you told him that he didn’t have to worry. You had applied strong protections on the house and the garden. And the forest protected you too. The storm was interfering with its magic but nothing could change its core and nothing could turn it on you. Turning on you would be like turning on itself and the forest was too wise for that.
You played games until well into the night. Jungkook’s eyes were growing heavy and his mouth stretched in small yawns. It was time to go to sleep. Jungkook curled up on the couch and you carried two knitted blankets to the living room and wrapped them around him. His cheeks grew rosy and he giggled at being tucked into bed like a child.
You left the fire burning in the hearth to keep him warm in the night.
“Goodnight, Jungkook. Have sweet dreams.”
“Goodnight,” he said, muffled by the blankets. “Sweet dreams.”
There was a change in the air like the turning of the tides. Your limbs were lighter and something different was lingering on your skin. You padded to the window and drew the curtains to the side. The sky was cloudy but it was no longer the suffocating darkness of the day before. The trees swayed and the rain persisted but it wasn’t attempting to drown the earth anymore. The storm was breaking.
You threw on one of your long black skirts and a brown sweatshirt and climbed down the stairs to the living room. Jungkook was sitting up on the couch and already looking in your direction when you walked inside. Supernatural hearing, you forgot about it sometimes.
"Good morning,” you greeted him. “The storm is slowly calming down. I will probably be able to send a message to the town and by tomorrow, it will be safe for you to return.”
“Thank you so much,” Jungkook said. He was fidgeting with his sleeves again but his smile was unmistakable. “I hope my sire will forgive me for being so careless.”
“I’m sure he will. For now, breakfast blood?”
Jungkook’s smile widened as he eagerly agreed. You couldn’t offer him the amount of blood he was used to, you had to ration it to make sure that it would last. It would be very difficult to get human blood once your supply was gone.
You hadn’t reached the kitchen yet when you sensed someone pass through your wards. The presence was familiar, the knowledge sitting in a hidden pocket in your brain and you couldn’t touch it. Jungkook hurried to the window, the path leading up to the door could be seen from there. He let out a small yelp before bolting to the door and throwing it open.
“Yoongi!” he shouted the name that had circled your mind for years. The presence was in your house and the name fit like a glove. Against your better judgment, you walked towards them to see for yourself. It could be someone else, couldn’t it? You just had to take a look.
He was clinging to Jungkook, hugging him so tightly it looked painful. Half of his face was hidden against the fledgling’s shoulder but it was unmistakably him. The memories were as clear as when you made them, they resurfaced stronger than any of your nightly musings bordering on regrets. His hair was longer than you remembered, reaching past his nape, his cat eyes were clenched shut and his skin was white porcelain. He was also drenched to the bone.
“I looked for you,” he said and his voice awoke more memories. “I looked for you everywhere I could– But the storm was too strong. We were locked inside for so long. They wouldn’t let me out. Don’t ever do that to me again, do you hear me? Don’t ever disappear on me like that. I was going out of my mind.”
“Never, I promise.” Jungkook was hugging him just as tight and although he was bigger in stature, he made himself smaller in the older vampire’s arms. “I’m alright. I was safe here. The wind carried me here and I was well taken care of. I should introduce you,” he said with excitement, pulling back a little.
Yoongi opened his eyes, their dark color made your heart beat faster. He looked at you behind Jungkook and when your eyes connected you could see the myriad of emotions passing through them. First, there was surprise, then disbelief and confusion and all the minor ones in-between. You had disappeared from one day to another, leaving no trace behind and no trail to follow. He must have believed he would never see you again.
Oblivious to the change in the atmosphere, Jungkook introduced you to each other, telling his sire how well you took care of him and that you kept him warm and well-fed and healed his injuries. You couldn’t read Yoongi, there must have been a point in your history that you had been able to but that was lost now.
There was silence after the introductions were over. Jungkook’s eyes jumped between the two of you. “Did I say something?”
“No, no, we just– We knew each other. In another life,” you said. Before you had enough of the wary glances and offending questions and fled the city. Before the manifestation of everything you had been afraid of.
Yoongi’s lips parted and he looked away. “We did. In another life,” he repeated bitterly.
“Oh.” Jungkook stood awkwardly between the two of you, shifting his weight from foot to foot.
Thunder boomed outside and you rushed to close the door that they had forgotten half-open during their reunion. That served to remind you about the very important fact that Yoongi was wet enough to have taken a long dive in the lake.
“I’ll bring some towels, you’re dripping,” you said and climbed upstairs.
It was an escape but a necessary one. It gave you some time to think. Jungkook’s sire was Yoongi. Yoongi, who you had known for years when you lived in the city, who you had tried to forget for years while you lived in this cottage but gave in once you realized it was impossible. He starred in most of your favorite memories from the city. And that’s exactly what he was supposed to be. A memory.
What was he doing in your forest? You had run so far away from the city that no one from your past would be able to find you. Except one. You had one link left to your old life, Seokjin. Seokjin was the one who had shown you this cottage hidden in the forest that spilled into his hometown. When the incident had happened and you were desperate for an escape, he had been your savior and he had swore not to tell anyone about your whereabouts. Seokjin was also Yoongi’s friend.
The dots were connecting. Seokjin and Jimin were the friends Yoongi and Jungkook were visiting.
You grabbed two forest green towels and paused in the hallway. Seokjin hadn’t told you. The few times you had seen him in the past weeks, he hadn't mentioned anything about Yoongi. A twinge of hurt scraped at your heart. He should have told you. If he knew Yoongi would be visiting, why wouldn’t he tell you? He knew who Yoongi used to be to you. Had he thought you wouldn’t be able to handle it? No one was supposed to know you were here but that was all over now.
You took a deep breath and returned downstairs. Yoongi was where you had left him, a small puddle of rainwater pooled at his feet. Jungkook’s clothes were also a little wet from their embrace but it was nothing compared to his sire.
“Here,” you said, handing him the towels.
“Thank you. I’m sorry for your floor.”
“The floor can be cleaned. You will catch your death like this.”
He rubbed his hair with the towel. “I’m already dead.”
You scoffed. “That doesn’t work on me. I know vampires are not as indestructible as you would like to think. I have a spell to get all the water out of your clothes but I haven’t tried it on clothes that are currently being worn.”
Yoongi looked down at his drenched clothes. “It’s not that bad.”
“You are making a small lake on the floor,” you pointed out. “You didn’t even take an umbrella with you?”
“It was no use against the wind.”
The wind wasn’t so bad now but you guessed it must have been worse when he set out to find Jungkook. He could have been looking for hours before he stumbled upon your house. Usually, the forest helped along the ones who looked for you but the storm was messing with its energy.
Yoongi gave you permission to use the drying spell on his clothes, his face scrunching up when the water was removed. You didn’t use it often because it left the clothes stiff and weird to the touch for some time. They turned too dry but in the present situation, you didn’t have many options.
Jungkook was still looking between the two of you in confusion as he held on to Yoongi’s arm, although witnessing the spell had put a smile on his face.
“Now that you’re dry, let’s move to the living room,” you said. “I’ll get the fire going and make some tea. None of you are going out in the rain.”
Yoongi studied you and you felt naked under his eyes. He was the only person from your past, other than Seokjin, that you had seen since you fled. He knew a version of you that no longer existed and you hadn’t been prepared for that. In the end, you should have known. The past always comes knocking regardless of how long and how far you run from it.
Yoongi didn’t pretend to turn you down to be polite but silently followed you to the living room. Jungkook pointed to the armchair by the fire that he had claimed for himself and gushed about how comfortable and soft it was. However, he didn’t sit there in favor of staying close to Yoongi on the couch. It was clear he had missed his sire and he needed to be as close to him as possible.
You picked up a few logs of wood from the metal box near the fireplace and stacked them inside. You added two layers of kindling and reached for the matches.
“How do you know each other?” Jungkook asked, breaking the fragile silence.
Yoongi looked at you, staying quiet. He was going to let you share as much as you wanted. You were surprised that he wasn’t asking more questions himself. Maybe he hadn’t cared as much as Seokjin had told you. Maybe it was the shock.
“I used to live in the city,” you started. “I went to the Academy of Magical Arts and Sorcery and we met on campus. Yoongi was visiting a friend of his.”
“Namjoon?” Jungkook asked and Yoongi nodded.
Namjoon was another person who you hadn’t seen in years. He was a powerful witch but he had chosen the academic route and didn’t practice magic much. You hadn’t been very close but you could have got there. You enjoyed his company and you could talk for hours. You would see him in the library and around campus and you had coffee together a few times and talked about magic theory and how energy flowed through living things. Seokjin was your only link to him as well and you had learned from him that he was still teaching at the University and he had been promoted from assistant professor to professor. When the news reached them, Seokjin and Jimin had traveled to the city to celebrate with him.
“We haven’t spoken since she left the city,” Yoongi said it simply like you had decided to leave one day instead of fleeing in the night, taking the last train to a town in the middle of nowhere. That had been five years ago.
You lit up a match, the action familiar and comforting, and threw it between the logs. The fire spread slowly, enveloping the wood. You stroked the flames with the poker, pushing and pulling the logs until the fire was burning strong.
You got up and wiped your hands on the soot-stained towel that hung from the same hook as the poker. “I’ll make some tea to fend off the cold.”
In the kitchen, you put on your apron with the embroidered mushrooms and marigolds, taking a moment to pull yourself together. It felt like everything was spinning out of control. The ghosts of your past never disappeared but they hadn’t been more than ghosts until now.
You focused on the task at hand, setting the water to boil and opening the cabinet that housed your tea jars. Echinacea and elderberry tea with dried angel lotus leaves was the most effective for preventing colds and boosting the immune system. Its taste was also nice and soothing.
You were putting spoonfuls of the tea blend into the strainer when Yoongi walked inside. His footsteps were soundless and you felt his presence before you saw him. Vampires’ energies were different than most creatures. They weren’t alive, not exactly, and energies were tied to a creature’s life force. Therefore, for vampires, their energies were unique and as a witch who could feel life and death very acutely, you could detect them easily.
“Have you been here all this time?” he asked after a few moments of silence.
The sounds of boiling water caught your attention, steam was coming out of the kettle’s spout. You removed the kettle from over the fire and poured the water into the teapot.
“I have,” you replied. There was nothing else to say, any explanations you could offer were useless.
“That’s it? That’s all after all these years?” Yoongi asked.
You couldn’t look at him, fiddling with herbs there was nothing to do with and glancing at the large clock on the wall for the brewing time. “I don’t know what else to say. You know why I had to leave. I couldn’t stay after what happened.”
“And you chose to disappear without a word?” When you didn’t answer, he continued. “I was sure that Seokjin knew where you were but he swore he didn’t. He said you disappeared without telling him anything and that he hadn’t heard from you since. Regardless of how many times I asked, it was always the same answer.”
“I asked him to say that to anyone who asked,” you admitted. “I didn’t want anyone to know where I was.”
From the corner of your eye, you saw Yoongi shake his head slowly in disbelief. “Why? Why didn’t you want me to know?”
It hurt to keep quiet but there was no way to make this better. You couldn’t tell him that you had been afraid although a part of you knew Yoongi wouldn’t judge you, like Seokjin wouldn’t judge you. But your fear had been too big and all-consuming, fear of what he would think and also fear of what you could do. Your magic had proved to be much stronger than you had believed and you needed to regain control of it to ensure you wouldn’t make the same mistakes.
And Yoongi was too strong of a link to the city. Your feelings were too much and too complicated. If he had known where you had run to, there was a chance he would have followed and it wouldn’t be only Seokjin you had doomed to a life in a small town he hadn’t wanted to return to.
Yoongi sighed. “That's all then. I came here to thank you for taking care of Jungkook,” he said, breaking the silence. “I will forever be in your debt. Jungkook told me of how you found him and how you cared for him. I was out of my mind when I couldn’t find him and I realised he was out in the storm alone. I wouldn’t be able to bear it if anything had happened to him, I would never forgive myself. Thank you for being there for him when I couldn’t.”
“I will tell you what I told him, there is no need for thanks or debts. I wanted to help him and I did. The fact that he is a very cute bat also helped, I couldn’t resist.”
Your attempt at a joke was rewarded with a weak chuckle. “It’s those big eyes. It’s impossible to tell him no.”
“I can imagine that.” You glanced at the clock again. The tea was ready. “I guess you are visiting Jin. Now that the weather won’t interfere as much with my magic, I should send him a fire message to let him know that you are both here and safe. Knowing him, he will be fretting over where you are and driving Jimin crazy.”
“That’s a good idea. I didn’t tell him I would be leaving in the morning,” Yoongi confessed. It made sense, Seokjin wouldn’t have let him leave while the rain was still this heavy and definitely not without an umbrella. “Should I take this to the living room?” He gestured to the tray you had set up with the teapot and the three mugs.
“Yes, go ahead. The tea is ready.”
Yoongi picked up the tray and left the kitchen without saying anything more. There was a painful tightness in your throat as your shoulders slumped. You had to send that message to Seokjin but your feet were rooted to the ground and your knees were weak. You had thought you would never see Yoongi again and although it hurt, after years you had made peace with it. All that was [changed] by the storm and you didn’t know how to feel about it.
You opened one of the drawers and pulled out a crinkled loose leaf of paper from the stack you kept there. On the counter, there was a pen next to the old witchcraft recipe book you had been studying the day before. You gripped the pen and debated how you should start the letter. He had known Yoongi was coming to town and yet he had told you nothing when he knew why you had run away and why no one should know where you were. He was supposed to be your best friend and best friends looked out for each other. For the first time during your friendship, that wasn’t true.
Suppressing your stupid anger, you wrote a quick message letting him know that Jungkook and Yoongi were safe in your house and that you would send them back to town once the rain and the forest’s magic calmed down. Towards the end, you added that you would like to know about any future guests of his from the city. You considered crossing over the bitterness that bled into the page but you let it be. Using black chalk, you drew the sigil for the fire message at the top right corner.
You lit up a blood-red candle and burned some thyme over the flame first. You recited the incantation while you held the message over the fire and watched it consume the paper. The magic was a lazy tingle at your fingertips and a warmth curled in your chest.
Yoongi and Jungkook were talking in hushed voices that were swiftly silenced when you walked back to the living room. The tea had been poured into the mugs but they were untouched. You picked up one of them on your way to the armchair. Conversation was stilted. Jungkook tried to alleviate the awkwardness but was soon shrinking into his sire’s side, clutching onto his mug of tea with both hands.
“The rain is growing weaker,” you observed. “The forest’s magic is settling, it can be unpredictable during storms and it’s dangerous to tread through it when it is like that. It will be best for you to return to the town before it picks up again.”
There would be another spike in a couple of hours before it broke in the night. That’s how storms like this one worked and what your senses were telling you.
You accompanied them to the door and they thanked you again. It felt like you didn’t deserve it with your past mistakes clinging to you like vices. Jungkook was quieter than last night when you were practically a stranger.
“Here,” you said, handing Yoongi the only umbrella you owned. It was a black one with little mushrooms Jimin had painted on it and enchanted them not to be washed away by rain. “I don’t use it much and I won’t be going into town for a few days. Seokjin can bring it back when he finds time.”
“Thank you,” Yoongi said.
You picked up your cloak from the coat stand and offered it to Jungkook. “And this is for you. It’s charmed to protect you from rain.”
Jungkook’s eyes widened, making him look like a baby deer. “I can’t take your cloak,” he said, shaking his head. “You might need it.”
“Don’t worry about that. I don’t have anywhere to go.” You would have to go to the farmhouse later in the day but it was only a short distance away and a little rain wouldn’t phase you. You took it up to yourself to wrap the cloak around him and pull the hood over his head. “I didn’t nurse you back to health for you to get sick now.”
Suddenly, there was a blur of movement and strong arms were wrapped around you. Jungkook was hugging you and, when the shock wore off, you hugged him back.
“Thank you for finding me,” he said, his voice sounding a little wet.
“If anything, you found me,” you joked. You pulled back, although you didn’t want to let go of him. “Go now. The forest will lead you to the town.”
“I will bring the cloak back to you,” Jungkook promised before he and Yoongi left. On the path, Yoongi glanced back at you over his shoulder but you averted your eyes and closed the door.
Five years and your heart still fluttered. But it was different. There was guilt tainting everything surrounding him. You had imagined meeting him again countless times, of course, you had, mostly during restless nights and too quiet mornings, but it hadn’t played out like this in any of your scenarios. It was too… simple, too mundane, even though your heart was still racing, but it also felt a little like the end of the world.
Their mugs were sitting empty on the coffee table. You placed them on the tray to take everything back in the kitchen and you realized that you had forgotten to at least put some cookies in a plate for them. Vampires didn’t eat much human food but it was simple courtesy to offer.
There was a spark in the air, followed by another, before flames erupted and formed a letter. You caught it before it floated to the ground. The loopy handwriting belonged to Seokjin. The first line was an apology, the second line was an apology as well. He promised to visit as soon as he could to explain and that you had every right to be angry at him. He thanked you for letting him know that Yoongi and Jungkook were safe since Yoongi had taken off in the morning before Seokjin had woken up, otherwise, he wouldn’t have let him go off in the rain. Reading his letter, the jagged edges of your anger smoothed but Seokjin would have to explain himself in person.
You picked up the tray and set yourself to tidying up. It was strange, you had lived alone for five years but the house felt emptier than ever before.
