I think Ahsoka can have two girlfriends. Also, she runs into Trace Martez by crashing her motorcycle into Trace's mechanic shop immediately after leaving the Jedi Order, and I think that contrasts very well with Barriss's organized and serious personality. Now, this throuple probably works best in an AU where Barriss didn't bomb the temple, but I think Trace and Ahsoka teaming up to try to bring Barriss back to the light after finding out she's been tortured into becoming an Inquisitor post-war could be very interesting. Honestly my main ethos for this ship is just Ahsoka Should Have Two Girlfriends. Also, I think Barriss could benefit from hanging out with Trace, if only to shake off some of her perfectionism. And given how similar Trace and Ahsoka are, personality-wise and style-wise, I think Barriss would very much be attracted to both of them.

Hrm probably Barriss Offee! This is of course directly due to the racism of Filoni & swtcw writers, but certain sides of the fandom tend to misrepresent her intentions… ie acting as though her goal was to betray Ahsoka, rather than that betrayal occuring as a secondary consequence to her bombing the temple. The temple bombing was an incredibly islamaphobic plotline to begin with but reconciling it with her character is… possible… in that she was so traumatized by the horror of constant death around her that she felt the need to orchestrate a drastic demonstration to get the republic’s attention. But I do not feel as though she was meant to be interpreted as desensitized to that violence but rather reconciling it within herself as a necessary evil to prevent further deaths. But again there are far better and less racist directions Filoni could’ve taken her character in order to make the same point. Like if she left the Jedi order to join resistance fighters like Saw Guerrera, for instance, and we got to see more of the development on screen of her difficulty with alligning the jedi code with her actions. But I digress.

6. Which ship fans are the most annoying?

The easy, obvious and throway answer is obikin shippers lmfao. I definitely understand the appeal of exploring fucked up relationships through fiction. I’m an AMC’s Interview with the Vampire fan. But the romanticization of that particular relationship is sickening to me and a lot of them like to pretend that there isn’t anything like… fucked up to explore there. Like a master/padawan ship’s power imbalance is not typically what these people want to tackly. They just want to draw horny sith obiwan fan art and write about those two fucking from sex pollen (I have perused their side of ao3 out of morbid curiosity. Sex pollen comes up a lot. Unsurprising given the dubcon nature of it, I suppose)

The easy, less obvious answer is probably dinlukes (sorry Ky aslkdjf) or dincobbs like I really do understand the appeal of shipping the single dad with hot young twinks or dilfy men but like there is such barebones support for the ship in the show that it’s nothing to me. Like sorry but these men barely interacted with each other. There’s no substance

12. The unpopular character you like and why more people should like them?

My biggest one is Barriss, but I already talked about her a little bit so I’ll say Arvel Skeen, from Andor. I’ve found his character and what he represents to Cassian fascinating since the end of his arc, which I talked about here. I think the fandom had a tendency to kind of two dimensionalize him / hate him unnecessarily. And then everybody forgot about him lol. When I found his final conversation with Cassian very poignant in establishing Cassian’s values and in exploring Skeen as a character himself.

a fic idea you want to write or read: Holy shit literally so many, I am FULL of wips and ideas..... Since I've been in Bo-Katan/BoPre/Death Watch purgatory for my past several published and in-progress fics, I was thinking about taking a break for one fic and writing an Anakin + Ahsoka gen friendship oneshot I've got bouncing around in my brain...

Basic premise, I was going to have them discuss attachment, with Ahsoka developing a crush on Barriss and trying to ask for advice on how to deal with it without fully admitting what's going on for worry of being judged, and then contrast that with Anakin trying to give her the Correct guidance towards non-attachment as her master, but also being unable to fully steer her away because of his own personal beliefs and struggle with the same issue.... but like also it's a cute fun fic where they go out to lunch or something! Idk.

WiP Wednesday on a Friday

Here's a sneak peek at the start of the Vampire Hunter AU. I'm inspired by @charmwasjess and their own WiP to get this underway.

  Autumn leaves crunched under her feet as Ahsoka reentered the long-abandoned power plant. The sky was turning vivid orange and purple behind her; but the rising sun did little to subvert the gloom of the building interior. The leaves were the only sound, and the dawn’s light and whatever anemic light penetrating the dust and cobweb patina on windows to the exterior provided the only light. 

  Ahsoka sought to swallow the knot of nervous energy in her throat and reached for the glowrod attached to her belt. She shined a vivid bright white LED beam cutting a blade through the gloom, light bouncing off every dust mote.

  She could have called out to her partner, but the plaintive exclamation died in her windpipe, blocked by that knot of grief at her trachea. 

  “Go on in, Ahsoka. That fiend must be asleep by now.”

  She was retracing steps she had taken with Barriss a week previously. Ahsoka looked over her shoulder as if she could see her companion, her fellow Jedi vampire slayer at her side.

  She looked up from her trusty datapad and smiled brightly. Her adorable Cupid’s-bow lips gently curled into a sly smile just for her. Just for her. Like lucious ribbons securing a present for her to unwrap. The screen left dual rectangles of reflected blue light on her glasses. Her stupid sexy glasses. She had her hair tied back in a bun and covered with a kerchief. 

  Otherwise she was dressed like an office secretary. Ahsoka never could grasp how she refused to alter her costume for missions. Ahsoka had her combat gear on, her plate-reinforced vest with the stiff metal collar over her throat. A garlic garland strung across her shoulders like a feather boa. She was holding her stake already, even here at the door in morning sunlight.

  And Barriss in a blouse, pencil skirt, kitten heels, and hose like it was a Tuesday at the office.

  “You’re sure she’s in here.” Ahsoka sought to intone it as a statement rather than a question.

  “According to my data this is the central point where the attacks originate. We are doomed to chase down its victims in villages all over the province unless we slay the monster inhabiting this old plant. Exterminate the queen, and the nest withers and dies.” 

  She pushed up the tortoiseshell frame of her glasses casually with a pinkie finger. Ahsoka was suddenly struck by the urge to grab her wrist and take that delicate digit into her mouth and surround it with her warm wet tongue. But she banished that urge lest her fellow Jedi hunter read her thoughts or emotions.

  She nodded and gave her a half-smile. “Okay.”

  Ahsoka was scared, but having Barriss here both as support and as a loved one to protect bolstered her. This wasn’t their first rodeo. As Jedi Knights they had joined a holy army of the light in opposition to these Sith bloodsucking freaks. Their masters had paired the two together after they showed how effective they were as a team. Perhaps they had also noted the attraction that grew by the day when they were together? Perhaps. Perhaps they sought the knights to overcome the temptations of the emotions and the flesh by serving the light together as a dyad.

  But damn, she wanted to kiss her right now. In this lull before confronting a great evil. Just to reassure each other and to get Ahsoka’s blood pumping rearing for the fight.

  “Let’s go, then. For light and life.”

  She tilted her head and her smile grew. Ahsoka’s heart leapt into her throat.

  Ahsoka sighed. She was returning here a failure and alone now. Barriss was either dead or a creature subverted by evil. And the best option was death. It would be a blessing to find her corpse inside.

  She spent a few days and dreamless nights at the tavern, in the room they rented together, in the one bed they had vacant, drinking herself into a stupor each night and secretly wishing to be awakened by Barriss’s fingernails tapping on the exterior of the third-floor window. Asking to be invited in.

Anakin's problem can be summed up with two words: Sheev Palpatine. Without him having access to young and impressionable Anakin and having authority to send Obi-Wan away on missions whenever he found it convenient, there's a good chance he'd have learned how to manage his emotions.

Almost every other Jedi could, and they were good: even without going to Ki-Adi-Mundi's ability to just shrug off the death of his wives and daughters (Cereans have a low birth rate and a horrobly skewed gender ratio, so the Jedi sent him back home to procreate), they were able to take the war and for the most part not fall. Even the one who literally acts as a Dark Side circuit every time he fights. Of the Clone Wars-era ones who fell without a Dark Sider's direct intervention, all had it worse than Anakin: Pong Krell had PTSD from the empathic feedback of his troops dying under him (apparently including his entire force if he was available to replace Anakin on Umbara) plus visions of the Republic's imminent fall, Quinlan Vos (who managed to recover) as a young child had been forced to experience how his parents were killed by vampires and as a Jedi went through insane missions before being sent to spy on Dooku, Barriss Offee's first solo assignment saw her lose her entire force and get addicted to a Force-amplifying drug in the vain attempt to save her clones on what turned out to be a pointless mission, and the future Grand Inquisitor was literally a Dark Side exterminator and got exposed to untold horrors before Ahsoka's trial and Barriss' fall damaged the faith in the Jedi that had kept him going right before he identified Darth Sidious (who probably got the scare of his life when a Jedi Sentinel went to him and told him he knew he was a Sith and was defecting).

When you get to know the background and lore created before the more famous shows, you get that while the Jedi failed Anakin most of the problem came from his extreme attachment to his loved ones and tunnel vision (had he petitioned to learn healing techniques to make childbirth safe he'd have got exactly what he wanted).

See, again, while I do agree with a lot of this

2.) Anakin might have had extreme attachment and some tunnel vision, and while I do hold him accountable, I do place much more of the blame for the root of the problem on the Jedi Order than on him. Because Anakin was a child when he first came to the Order. He was like. 9. They should have been able to help teach him to handle that stuff better. And in the long run Palpatine is the one to blame for all of this because he’s a manipulative bitch, but if the Order had helped Anakin more with what he was dealing with, then it’s more likely that he would’ve stuck to them when Palpatine became a bit more sketch.

My Top 10 Ships of 2020

It's been a weird year but I've seen other people doing this. Plus this year I've been way more into gen fics (love a bit of found family especially in clone wars and marvel) than anything shippy. So I genuinely don't know what imma put on here aside from two ships for sure. Sorry this post is super long idk how to do the below the cut thing and I've had this app for 5 years...

10) Viktor Nikiforov and Yuuri Katsuki - Yuri!!! On Ice

It was a real toss up between this, supercorp, kanera and wolfstar cos they're all very integral ships to my fan heart but this son because of the Yuri on Ice fandom's rebirth this year. I've never stopped shipping this, never stopped reading fanfic of them for any extended period of time, they're still my most bookmarked ship on ao3 (although I think now star wars - all media types may have overtaken them for fandom). They were one of the first things I watched where the queer ship I loved became canon and I can't wait for the film (and hopefully someday a season 2). Heck I even made my mum watch Yuri on Ice with me so I think that says it all.

9) Edelgard Von Hresvelg and female Byleth - Fire Emblem: Three Houses

My first fire emblem game was fates when I was like 14 (and finally gay awake lol). I was so disappointed that I had to be with a guy character because the only female option was kinda creepy and also I wouldn't get the character of kana. So when three houses came out I was so happy because finally there were beautiful incredible female characters my female byleth could romance (I'm so sorry mlm you deserved so much more than you got). I got the game as soon as it came out (had to search a lot of shops let me tell you) and started on black eagles. I was actually kinda disappointed back in 2019. I didn't like the explore the monastery bit (still find it kinda tedious) and the battle mechanics weren't quite the same as fates (no pairing up?! Aka my main battle technique for protecting the weaker units). So I got like 20 hours in and put it down. Came back to it in lockdown and finally finished it! I'm so proud of myself I virtually never finish games. And I fully fell in love with the useless lesbian edelgard in the process. When I started back playing in 2020 I was like eh I wish I'd picked a different character to romance (like shes an emperor that's morally very shady) but then the romance stuff started with edelgard and I fell the heck in love.

8) Cory Matthews and Shawn Hunter (and Topanga Lawrence) - Boy Meets World

Disney+ was released in the UK this year and I finally got the opportunity to watch boy meets world in its best quality (aka not on YouTube). I watched it back when I was like 12 or 13 and it's such a nostalgic show for me. Watching it again I still absolutely adore it (and my bi ass was low-key crushing on Shawn especially in chick like me - I'm 18 btw and I got so scared for a sec but rider strong was 18 when chick like me came out so it's fine woah). And of course now I see the possibilities of the beautiful Cory and Shawn relationship like they were so bromance it was basically romance and throw in topanga it's the perfect ot3 (but I'm also fine with just Cory and Shawn or just Cory and Topanga). Read some good fanfic for them this year. My favourite was one about Shawn stealing makeup and stuff and exploring gender (need more fics like this I'm biiii).

7) Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes - Marvel Cinematic Universe

I rewatched all the MCU films this year too. And got really into Peter parker whump and irondad. Plus my eternal obsession with identity and relationship reveals of course led me from Spiderman identity reveals (and found family cuteness) to stucky coming out. Especially when it involves the internet and social media. Not my favourite ship but it's been significant to my year due to the sheer amount of marvel stuff I've read.

6) Satine Kryze and Obi Wan Kenobi - Star Wars

I rewatched clone wars in prep for season 7 and wow Satine's death was sad and sudden. She first appeared in S2 E13 I think and just the sheer sexual tension of their bickering. "The sarcasm of a soldier. The delusion of a dreamer." Just ugnnhhh my bi ass can't take much more of this. And Anakin just sipping his wine in the background grinning. And I fully believe korkie is a Kenobi.

5) Commander Cody and Obi Wan Kenobi - Star Wars

I am very much an Obi wan multishipper. I don't really have a favourite but I fully believe he was with satine and Quinlan in his life. I don't think be would've actually done anything with Cody because of the whole superior officer thing. And this probably isn't even my favourite Obi wan ship - that honour probably goes to quinobi or obitine. However the most popular ships in the fandom are codywan, quiobi and obikin. No offence to anyone who ships these they're just personally not to my taste, but I can't stand quiobi, and obikin I find only slightly more tolerable and I think that's just because there's so much obikin content so if I like the concept of a fic that happens to be obikin I'll read it. I'm just not a fan of the mentor/student relationships. So I generally favoured the codywan fics when there was shipping involved meaning I read a lot of them this year. Needed that nice fix it content post season 7.

4) Zuko and Katara - Avatar: the Last Airbender

Again I am a multishipper I have nothing against zukka it's cute. But I'm a zutara shipper first and foremost because when I first watched avatar I was like 13 and denying my gayness and gayness in general so I shipped the straight things and the straight things only. Most of these ships I stopped shipping - dramione, spuffy, some my little pony ones which we don't talk about. Zutara stayed. (I have nothing against any of the things I used to ship I just stopped shipping them so much/shipped new things more). I've continuously shipped zutara since I first watched avatar even if I didn't necessarily spend that much time on it it has always been here as one of my favourite ships. It has such good fanfic I swear including my favourite ever fanfic from any fandom - love thy enemy. Plus like the black games (reread this for the millionth time this year), a delicate subterfuge (which I read for the first time this year and damn it's so good) and so many more. With the avatar resurgence this year I haven't actually rewatched avatar aside from my normal random episode every now and then when I feel like it. But there's been a lot of avatar on my dash from people I follow getting into it and people I followed for avatar returning so naturally I returned to the fandom and read quite a lot of fanfic. I also read just a lot of avatar gen fics which were great at the whole found family thing I've been so obsessed with this year.

3) Catra and Adora - She Ra and the Princesses of Power

Catradora is canon! They kissed! What more is there to say. Arguably they should've been top but I never shipped them that much since I was always very much a multishipper when it came to she ra so yes I was very happy it became canon because we actually won for once but also I've never read much fanfic for them etc. But they are very much a dynamic I love and watching she ra all again in prep for season 5 I really enjoyed the build up of their relationship. The other two only go above because Buffy is my favourite show ever and damn there's some good fuffy fanfic and Aphra and Tolvan is both fresh in my mind and star wars owns me. Would love some catradora fic recs btw if anyone has them tho.

2) Buffy Summers and Faith Lehane - Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I didn't realise it was last year that I got super into them but according to my ao3 bookmarks it was lol. 2020 I swear it's lasted an eternity. I got into them about a month before lockdown (which feels like another lifetime). I've loved Buffy since I first watched it when I was 13. It's arguably still my favourite TV show. I've been through a lot of ships for Buffy - bangel to spuffy and now fuffy. I still think angel and her were a beautiful ship back in season 2 and especially in the angel episode I will remember you. But faith and Buffy had so much chemistry in season 3 - she would've been a fresh start for Buffy and the amount of fix it fics I read I swear. My favourite has to be one where they met in LA during Anne and how that changed everything feat Buffy's internal homophobia.

1) Cheili Lona Aphra and Magna Tolvan - Star Wars

I read Darth Vader (2015) and Doctor Aphra (2016) for the first time at the end of 2020 (got a comic subscription which has served me very well already I've nearly finished the star wars canon comics). Just to see canon queer ladies in star wars was so magical for me as a queer lady. I didn't think star wars would be so overt yet as to have a queer kiss in canon (even if it's in the comics) and especially not with the main character of arguably their main comic series. Now we just gotta hope that we'll get it in live action someday soon. They weren't the ship I consumed the most content of in 2020 but they were the highlight of my 2020 because star wars did that and I finally found out about it

(Those last four are ones I've shipped forever some of my og ships but nothing particularly big has happened for me this year with them so)

I got Disney+ this year so rewatched a fair few things from my youth and though hey my obsession with that character may have been a little gay.

Claws & Fangs Ch 1 - The Intruder, The Bat And The Wolf

Summary: Kaeden heads home from a long day of work and finds someone has broken into her house looking for something, the intruder attacks her with a massive bat creature. She gets saved by a massive orange wolf.

Words count: 1.5k

Warnings: an animal attacks and tried to kill Kaeden, I don't think I went into too much detail but I went into it a bit so I'll put this as a warning 🛑, so blood and violence ant attack.

Kaeden Larte had horrible luck.

The worst luck in the entire world? Yeah probably.

First, her parents die when she's fifteen and her little sister is twelve.

Then, after getting a job she could actually hold down as a farmer, rumors start to circulate about her parents, specifically her mother, a scholar and a woman of medicine.

The rumors were that she was a witch or vile sorceress, cause her garden always looked so nice and was never attacked by animals. That was serious nonsense, she had taught Kaeden how to grow plants properly and she knew how to keep the wild life away.

Besides she was already dead so what did it matter?

Third, the witch rumor had the Empire come in and conduct a search of her house, they found nothing and left it. Didn't stop the leering or cruel taunts she got from the townspeople when she went into work. Five years later and she was still being called a witch spawn.

Fourth, her most recent stroke of bad luck, there was an owl hanging around her house poking at her plants.

The stupid little bird kept trying to take from her garden, the damn thing was extra interested in her healing herbs and oddly, her sister's garlic. Miara liked to cook in her free time, she worked at a bakery too.

She frequently found herself waking up in the middle of the night to the cursed being raiding her garden and she had to chase it off multiple times, it just kept coming back.

Oh, and then there was her worst luck ever:

Some crazy madman was breaking into her house, she heard the window shatter as she approached her home.

It was late at night and Miara was staying in town with her "friend" Omega, who had insisted it wouldn't be safe for her to go out at night alone. A clear ploy to get more time alone together before she had to go leave again, but Kaeden hadn't pushed her sister.

Kaeden always felt safer at home and had gone anyway.

She was really wishing she had stayed with Miara right now.

She could see the invader through the window, they were dressed in all black, and had a sword or gun or both at their waist.

They suddenly spun around and fixed glowing red eyes on her.

Her blood froze.

The intruder stalked towards her.

Her brain screamed at her to do something, but her body was fully frozen with fear.

A curious coo snared her attention away from the imposing threat.

The thieving owl was sitting on the fence, a clump of herbs in its talons. It cooed at her and took off.

Kaeden made the decision to chase after it right before the glass broke.

She bolted after the owl as fast as she could, though she had a growing feeling she wouldn't be able to escape her pursuer.

The stupid owl lead her into the forest, the dark forests that most people didn't dare go into because of stories about monsters that dwelled within. It was probably just wolves, or at least that's what Kaeden hoped as she blindly followed a bird.

Oh gods, she was going to die, wasn't she?

The owl took a sharp turn and just vanished into thin air. Her heart pounded against her chest and the blood roared in her ears as she frantically looked around for anything she might be able to defend herself with or some way out of this horrifying nightmare.

Something heavy landed in the trees, she heard the wood creak and groan with the weight.

She spun around.

The intruder turned attacker and probably her murderer if she was being honest.

The ominous eyes glowed dangerously.

Kaeden dared to look up.

That was a massive mistake.

A massive bat… thing was perched in the tree, hungry yellow eyes looking down at her.

Kaeden cursed her horrible luck.

Her pursuer whistled a single sharp note. 🛑

The beast snarled and threw itself from the treetops down onto her.

It slammed into her with enough force to slam her to the ground. The air was knocked out of her chest.

Pain bloomed all over her body, the bat's razor sharp claws slicing up her skin.

Clawed wings cut thin, deep lacerations on her arms when she raised them in a feeble attempt to protect herself. She somehow managed to push the bat up away from her throat.

It snarled madly, savagely slashing at anything within reach in its rabid attempt to kill her.

It snarled and hissed in her face, baring its sharp fangs at her.

She screamed and kicked its underbelly. Her feeble attempt to survive only served to piss it off.

It screeched and thrust its head down.

Its jaws slammed down on her neck. White hot pain exploded in her neck. She screamed at the needle sharp teeth piercing her skin.

Her blood got hot, it was burning in her veins, the fire spread rapidly from her neck to her toes.

She cried out, her entire body was boiling!

Just when she thought it was all over for her, that she'd die here in this forest and never be found, that her little sister would be alone, never knowing what really happened to her, a fearsome yowl erupted from somewhere in the chaos and in a blur of fur, the violent beast was ripped off of her.

Kaeden screamed, the beast's teeth tore her skin as it was thrown into a nearby tree.

She instinctively covered her neck wound to stem the bleeding, but that was hardly going to do her much good with her injuries or the fire in her veins. Gods, the fire in her veins made her want to die right there!

It was all she could do to apply weak pressure to her wound and stare up.

Oh.

The owl was back.

It was perched in a branch above her.

Something growled.

Something big.

Kaeden, to her own surprise, managed to prop herself up enough to see what had saved her.

A massive, truly massive wolf with burnt orange fur and stripes going down its back stood in front of her, growling at the bat, which now looked so small next to the wolf.

The bat was reasonably afraid of the impossibly huge wolf, it cowered at the wolf's presence.

The wolf growled, low and threatening, at the beast and keeper.

The beastmaster grunted and both vanished in a puff of black smoke.

The wolf relaxed slightly but stayed alert, ears swiveling to catch any sound of a follow-up attack.

Kaeden jolted away when someone touched her head.

A hooded figure was sitting behind her, they gently lifted her head to rest on their lap and checked her pulse. Their face was concealed by a mask.

Their fingers trailed along the fresh, raw wounds, she would have objected but the fire in her body made her numb to any pain their touch caused. Suddenly the carefully investigating fingers stilled then pressed in on a particularly painful wound, the sensation of white fire burned in her neck, she screamed bloody murder.

"Ahsoka!" The hooded figure shouted.

The wolf stalked over to her, it was so much bigger than she thought it had been when it was looking down at her. Through the corner of her eye, she saw the hooded figure point out something. The wolf's lip curled up with the hint of a snarl.

It leaned in close, she could feel its hot, wet breath on her neck. It sniffed whatever was so interesting to these strangers.

Idly, Kaeden wondered if this hooded stranger was the same thing as the one who attacked her, they both had animals doing their bidding.

"What do you feel?"

She barely registered the words in her dazed, quickly bleeding out state, the stranger pressed her wound lightly. Kaeden couldn't even hold back the very undignified cry that ripped itself from her throat.

" …fire…" she choked out.

She could taste blood in the back of her mouth as the stranger and their beast exchanged a look.

She let her eyes close, she was getting colder and more exhausted as the moments passed, somewhere in her hazy mind, she recognized it as a symptom of blood loss, that she was going to die soon. She'd lost too much blood.

Something warm and damp pressed against her nose. She blinked open her eyes.

The wolf was standing over her, nose to nose while brilliantly blue gray eyes stared deep into hers.

There was something so human in those glowing eyes, Kaeden felt safe with this massive, deadly beast.

It was probably her dying brain.

"Don't worry, we'll take care of you."

She assumed that meant they'd take her body back home, to let her sister know what had happened.

Kaeden hummed absently, the wolf's eyes were so bright and so blue, she couldn't look away even as death pulled at her.

All she saw when the darkness overtook her was that brilliant blue.
