Exploring the Craft: The Art of Carbon Steel Pipe Manufacturing
Once the molten steel reaches the optimal composition, it is poured into molds to form billets or blooms, which serve as the starting point for Carbon Steel Pipe production. These solidified forms are then meticulously shaped and elongated through a series of processes such as hot rolling, extrusion, or forging, depending on the desired specifications.

The mystery of the Half Life babies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Original post here!
Info under the cut !!
I got a lot of comments on my last post about old half life advertisements asking what the hell is up with the three separate posters including scary babies and children with lambda symbols burned into their eyes. I didn't really think much of it at first but in hindsight, yeah, that is really weird.
I decided if I wanted to keep my self-made title of "Black Mesa's Historian" I should go digging.
After searching and searching I've found...... nothing.
Old reddit threads and forums theorize it's supposed to represent the Nihilanth, the only baby-like creature in the game (ignoring the photo in Gordon's locker.)
In the Half Life 2 book Raising The Bar, Gabe Newell states the Nihilanth's design was heavily influenced "by the horror aspects of pregnancy and childbirth, to which Valve turned after being inspired by the birth of Gray Newell, Gabe Newell's son."
Tumblr media
The Nihilanth's wiki entry.
BUT this doesn't really answer much. Because these ads were NOT made by Valve. They were made by Sierra, a European publishing company responsible for publishing the Half Life series. After going through their games history I've discovered a crucial detail.
They had no idea how to advertise this game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Police Quest (1987), Leisure Suit Larry (1987), Quest for Glory (1989)
You see, these were the games Sierra was making. 2d point and click adventures. How they somehow managed to get their hands on Half Life is beyond me, and for another post.
All I can assume is Sierra didn't know how to advertise this 3D survival horror FPS made by rowdy Americans to their European audience.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Postal (1997), Resident Evil (1996), Doom (1995)
Remember, this was the 90s. Gaming was the next big hobby for boys. Advertising wasn't meant to show you gameplay, characters, and story. It was meant to be rough, scary, gorey, and awesome. Sierra probably took inspiration from the dozens of other dark shooters around at the time and based their campaign around that. Why they picked babies with evil eyes.. I don't know.
In the end, we may never know the true thought process behind the evil Half Life babies, it doesn't stop me from trying though.

I approve of Getaway getting whiskey dicked and valve plowed by Swerve
Couldn't happen to a better mech. Getaway thought he could rock Swerve's world, but it's his own valve that got first-class seats to Primus on a spike worthy to be featured in a pleasure magazine.
Swerve's dick-game is actually A++, and he's just a little annoyed that no one pays his valve any attention. Because, unlike his spike, where he onlined with all the extra bells and whistles in that particular appendage, he put in all the shanix into upgrading his valve for an amazing time. Getaway was the only mech to show real interest and had clever fingers, but the overdrinking between Getaway, Skids, and Rodimus locked down the mech's spike.

I see Veilguard is rated Mostly Positive, which I would tend to think means they're deleting almost all the negative reviews as "review bombing".

What’s with me and always being 80 years late to fandoms. Like ok dang, your immortal space pirates are cool and all, but they died 4 years ago. And man, your mercenaries are cool and all, but they’re all retired and old now.

I love physical media. It's comforting, encouraging in its corporeality, reassuring that it's an object that you own... but I also love gaming on pc, a platform dominated by digital downloads.
It's a topic I feel many don't really discuss, but I feel it is highly important for game preservation, which is a distinct weak spot in the pc platform's otherwise perfect image.
Once a game is delisted on steam, you can only really get it through key resellers, scrounging around in shady digital markets for forbidden goods. it's an insufficient statement of preservation, leaving the future of these games up to third parties.
In light of recent disappointments -Ubisoft, Adult Swim, Sony, and even Valve- the importance of game preservation is called into the spotlight, with initiatives like Stop Killing Games challenging publishers to keep their games alive and accessible.
I would like to challenge Valve themselves, if you wanna take game preservation seriously, introduce physical media into your ecosystem.
You already have family sharing, you could build the system off that to allow for a game that exists with its own account. Sharing with the system its plugged into through a form of family sharing is the most ideal way I could imagine physical games on steam could work.
