Rewrites are actually so much fun!! I have accumulated so much lore just by trying to patch the holes of Winx Club and reconcile retcons into a reasonable timeline that I keep catching myself going - wait is this canon or did I make this up?? And then there are the fun parts of the lore which are comprised of 7 year old me understood this concept as x although the show suggests y but frankly 7 year me was onto something there so its canon now.
Like yeah, Stormy is the last weather witch of Andros, which is completely different from Linphean weather witches! Of course the fall of Domino did not mark the end of The War! What do you mean that powerful mages do not have lifespans proportionate to their power? Wait the Legion of Witch Hunters and underground Witch Rights League don't exist in canon???
Canon can be whatever I want it to be!

Some doodles of the strong season 3 outfit contenders that I have yet to finalise.

+ A ton of other doodles, some old some recent, that I've never posted (I think)

in order from left to right:
Stella outfit idea, Timmy doodle, Young Stella,
Stella explaining the Magic Dimension to Bloom, Faragonda alt. outfit, the Winx Club (very old drawing),
some of Flora's family,
Aisha being a cutie, Faragonda, Griselda,
Sky, Brandon, Stella, and Diaspro playing as kids, everyone with a familiar (so far), some doodles of Wizgiz and Griffin,
Musa singing (old), Musa outfit idea, Aisha beach outfit doodle,
Sky, Brandon, Stella, and Diaspro as kids, Flora, Darcy and Icy annoying Valtor,
Bloom Andy and Selina being the closest of friends (sarcasm).
There were so many, but frankly these are the best pickings.

First year of partnership, Griffin casually judging Valtor's sexual life, but who wouldn't*
Griffin: You should get paid, you know?
Valtor: You don't pay for gifts.
Griffin: Uh-uh, and the gift would be you?
Valtor: Of course, Dragon-sent.

I just plain and simple wanted to write down some of my headcanons for Winx Club, because as I've said before I have had a very big obsession with it (well at least some of the characters) as of late.
So, here we have some of my Winx Club hc's:
Headmistress Griffin's past with Valtor: I've seen a few of these as I've scrolled on Tiktok, Tumblr and ff.net but I wanted to explain how I see it. So as it is in the actual show, Griffin was fighting alongside Valtor and the Ancestral Witches, but Griffin and Valtor also had a relationship. To put it short, they were lovers. It was lust. Perhaps it was partly just a way to make people jealous and get more powerful, at least in the beginning, because Griffin was quite young when it all happened. Over time she started realizing the weight of her decision and because of that she wanted out of it. Away from him. I could also imagine their relationship becoming toxic over time, which also prompts Griffin to escape. How she managed it was because of her old friend Faragonda, who Griffin had obviously parted with when she joined Valtor. Faragonda always wants to help when she can and she never believed Griffin truly was as evil as she made herself look by turning against the entire magic dimension. So Faragonda was quite happy to be able to be of help to Griffin and help her return to the light and persuading the others to let Griffin join the Company of Light even if it was very difficult. When Valtor found out about all this, he was obviously angry and felt betrayed and thus he always held Griffin accountable for their misfortune and would count days until he could break her like she did his heart. Of course, Griffin was heartbroken too, when she made the choice to part with Valtor but she keeps telling herself she doesn't and will never truly regret it. I imagine when Valtor tried taking over the magical dimension in season 3, Griffin took it almost personally. She was afraid of what he'd do to her when he found her or what she'd do if she saw him again , and she tried her best to seek shelter from/with Faragonda, who offered it more than gladly, knowing it would be extremely hard on Griffin to have Valtor return. This is too, in addition to her close friendship with Griffin, why Faragonda was so worried about Valtor having done something to Griffin when she and Valtor fought in season 3.
Why Faragonda has no wings: This is also one I've seen here on Tumblr I think, but I do love it so here we are. I headcanon that during the Company of Light's fight against the Ancestral Witches on Domino the witches tore off Faragonda's wings. Yes, the worst thing to happen to a fairy. When it happened, I like to imagine, it was probably Marion who only barely managed to save Faragonda from the witches but she didn't make it in time to save the fairy from getting her wings torn off. And the queen still blames herself for Faragonda losing her wings. Now, if a fairy is strong and experienced enough, they could fly without wings but it would take a lot of practice and skill. It took Faragonda a while to recover and then learn the art of flying with no wings, but she did learn it and now does it without problem. She does not hold her friend accountable for losing her wings and will forever remain thankful to Marion for saving her life.
Faragonda and Marion's friendship: I already mentioned in the first one that Faragonda and Griffin are very good friends but I like to think that Faragonda was quite close with Marion too before she was supposedly killed by the Ancestral Witches on Domino and then they rekindled the friendship after the Winx saved Domino and Oritel and Marion. I think they went to school at Alfea together and when they got older and Marion married Oritel, Faragonda remained Marion's friend and avid supporter. After tens of years of not seeing each and thinking they never would again, the two women were very relieved to be able to call the other their friend still and they now go on walks in Alfea's gardens when Marion is visiting and she, vice versa, invites Faragonda for tea sometimes. Marion is especially grateful to Faragonda for being there for Bloom when she herself couldn't. Faragonda simply tells she would have dlne the same if the roles were reversed.
The fact that Darcy looks almost identical to young Griffin: Yes, they look alike and yes they are related. At least in my headcanon they are! In the first hc I talked about Valtor and Griffin's relationship but I did not mention that I also think that during her time with Valtor, as his lover, Griffin fell pregnant with his child. When she found out, she realized what a grave danger it would be to both her and the child. At this point Griffin was already thinking of parting with Valtor. So, in her panicked state she goes to Faragonda to see her in secret from Valtor and everyone else. When she tells Faragonda, she is, knowing Faragonda, met with support but also dissappointment. She asks for Faragonda's advice but she doesn't know how they could keep the baby a secret and that Griffin wouldn't have to get rid of it or give it up. But Faragonda promises Griffin that she will meet her soon and in the meanwhile come up with a plan or at least try to. When they meet again, Faragonda tells Griffin about an ancient spell that could possibly speed the pregnancy so that Griffin could have the baby now and then they would figure out where to hide the baby. (I know, a terrible and weird explanation, it sounded a lot better in my head.) It takes some convincing but Griffin agrees. So they barely manage to do the spell but luckily in the end they succeed and then Griffin basically has the baby about 7-8 months before it's actual due date. The problem is now that they have to figure a way to keep the baby a secret. Griffin spents the following days trying to figure out how and when she eventually comes up with a solution, she presents it to Faragonda. A forgetting potion, which when drank makes the drinker forget of a certain thing forever. She wants Faragonda to drink it so that she would forget Griffin's pregnancy and the baby completely. Faragonda doesn't like the idea and thinks it would be too dangerous. But Griffin is adamant, because she knows that if Valtor were to somehow find out (of course she doesn't doubt Faragonda but she knows how cruel the man can be) she would never be able to part with him and the baby would not have a life she wants for her. But Griffin can't bring herself to forget the wee baby, not her own daughter. She would take the secret to her grave if needed. So Faragonda promises to drink the potion and it is only many, many years later that Griffin confides the secret to her. Meanwhile, Griffin has to watch her daughter succumb to evil and darkness and make wrong choice after another without there truly being a way of saving her without telling revealing truth.
Oop. These got super long and tedious and probably make very little sense, but hopefully not! Let me know if you want more because I think I might have some left still and I would be more than happy to share them with you.

Valtor will insert himself in any conversation with Griffin in it, even more so if Faragonda is in the mix just to get a rise out of the witch. 🙄

Griffin and Valtor's backstory is so fascinating because Griffin is still alive.
Think about it. She was literally attacked by the Ancestral Witches as she was escaping, then she kept fighting in the war against them and Valtor, whom she'd just betrayed, and she survived all the way to and past the final battle while all of them plus Marion, Oritel and Domino's population were imprisoned. Now I know this is mostly because the backstory was, in fact, added later but the trope of a former villain sacrificing their life as redemption was successfully avoided. She got to live/had to live depending on how deeply you believe she regretted her former servitude of the Ancestral Witches and/or the time period (as I think all remaining CoL members were devastated right after the final battle on Domino). She got to build herself a new life, independent of her previous mistakes only to then - almost two decades later - be forced to face the man she betrayed again.
The fact is that no one but Griffin herself ever attempts to justify her betrayal. No one. Not even once. When she confirms to the Winx and Mirta that she was a member of the Company, her previous affiliations are never mentioned. She is allowed to be an equal member of the Company that's never treated as lesser because she was initially working against them; she gets to share in both their victory and their failure (an entire planet perishing is hardly a real victory but they survived and the culprits of the devastation were imprisoned); her past is never held against her to imply she might not be trustworthy. Her course of action is understandable if poorly motivated in the minute this backstory gets to be explained. She is also never exonerated for betraying Valtor, though, which is, frankly, more nuance than you'd expect from Winx Club of all shows.
But then there's the flip side of this whole situation, which is even more intriguing. Just like she's forced to live with her betrayal, so is Valtor. Again, she is alive. Not only did she run away from him, but she also survived any subsequent attempts at revenge on her and remained at large while he was imprisoned. Whether because he still cares for her or his power simply wasn't enough to grant him his vengeance, he has failed to punish her. And failure is a rarity for Valtor.
With the might of the corrupted Dragon Fire, he is so powerful that none of the characters that have handled threats of universal magnitude before are able to stand up to him for longer than a minute. He's also smart and cunning, always knowing what to say to get on top of the situation. As such any failures he endures are far removed from one another and temporary. Really, most of his schemes during season 3 were initially successful and later only failed due to lack of direct involvement from him as he would leave the execution to his pawns - either Cassandra & Chimera, Diaspro or the Trix. The things he personally oversaw in their entirety did always succeed up until the very end.
His one colossal failure - allowing to be imprisoned - was hardly a bigger challenge than anything else he faced and would have eventually failed to contain him even without the Trix' intervention. For one simple reason - he is effectively immortal. He had all the time in the world and no one that could kill him, considering that Marion and Oritel would have probably done that rather than simply imprison him if they'd been able to. Sooner or later something (like the Trix coming across him) would have happened and he'd have been roaming around stealing magic again, his defeat barely registering except... for Griffin.
She is right there, his failure - in the flesh - staring him in the face. There is no way to rationalize this away. She betrayed him and joined his enemies. Either he allowed her to play him for a fool or his charm and power weren't alluring enough to keep her by his side. He can pretend she was too weak-willed to achieve greatness beside him but that is still a lapse in judgment on his part since he had deemed her worthy of being his partner. In fact, despite anything else he may say, he still speaks highly of their joint abilities so he definitely believed her to be a good match for him.
He fucked up. There is no way around it. And to differ from all his other failures, including his imprisonment, this one is not going away. In fact, he only temporarily succeeded with taking revenge on her by imprisoning her in turn and taking over her school and her students' minds but that barely lasted a few episodes. Before he knew it, she was free and running around again. His one permanent failure that he cannot get away from, that's been haunting him for literal decades now since she left him.
With how overpowered Valtor is, introducing such a permanent reminder that even he makes mistakes that he can't always fix with a snap of his fingers is ingenious. Granted, they don't really explore any of it but the fact is that that is the only long-term failure that he has to deal with aside from his subservience to the Ancestral Witches. The implication that the soured relationship between him and Griffin is the only thing that is even comparable in any way (as a blow to his abilities and self-image) to his slavery to the Ancestral Witches makes me mentally unwell.
Regardless of the nature of their partnership, Griffin is the only person that has managed to force him to look past his self-importance and egomania, which could have very well been traumatic in light of his lack of agency where his bond to the Ancestral Witches is concerned and has never been framed as the right thing to do on Griffin's part. It adds layers of complexity both to Griffin's morality and to Valtor's image and self-image (or at least would have if they'd explored it a little as forcing him to acknowledge failure would have added more dimension to him and tamed how overpowered he is). It's the perfect ground for headcanons and fanfiction examining the complexities of the characters and their relationship to thrive.

WINX FANDOM! For my S3 rewrite I have decided to remake canon in my image and, as such, Griffin will have a much larger role both in the series but also an implied larger role in the past (canon compliant from S1).
I come to you to gauge interest in the following potential angles I might take her down but am uncertain on. These won't impact the plot or how she interacts with other characters (because in my heart all three are true) but it will impact how she responds to certain moments
#valtor girldad au#the role griffin plays in relation to the Trix is so messy in my headcanons#and this is my rewrite so I can say what is canon#not saying much because I want there to be surprises#but I have latched on WAY too hard to what the Ancestral Witches say to Valtor when they return him to the Dragon Flame#and that has completely influenced how I am positioning both Griffin and Valtor in relation to the Trix#winxposting#winx club#trix#winx trix#the trix#winx icy#icy winx#winx darcy#darcy winx#stormy winx#winx stormy#valtor#winx valtor#griffin#winx griffin#headmistress griffin#headwitchstress griffin#winx#sapien screams into the void
