Valenfangs - Day 6 - Heart-Shaped Locket
💘 Just a short, silly little drabble today for the @valenfangs prompt "Heart-Shaped Locket" 💘
“You can’t give Pandora this,” Daniel said, looking at the contents of the shiny gold box on Marius’ dresser. Marius frowned from his chair where he was reading over some emails on his iPad. “What?” “This thing.” Daniel lifted the heart-shaped locket. “It’s too cheesy.” Marius stared at it for a long moment. “You don’t think it’s romantic?” Daniel put it back into the box. “Sure, I do, but I’m a sucker for those kinds of things. Pandora is going to think it’s silly. Maybe if it were shaped like anatomical heart…” “Shall I gift it to you then?” Marius smiled. Daniel laughed. “What about a bracelet? That seems more her style.” “You’re as bad as Armand, trying to play personal shopper for everyone else,” Marius said. “What did you get him anyway?” “A vase dug out of the ruins of Pompeii that’s been restored,” Daniel said. Marius’ face dropped a bit. “That is quite good.” He sighed and stood. “Fine, yes, let’s go shopping. I can fly us to Paris.”

Valenfangs - Day 5 - Red Wine
🍷Red Wine 🍷
Daniel/Marius - Mature - 2733 words
Daniel stops in a wine bar to stare down a glass of red. Marius, worried he's out so late, comes to find him and ensure he's okay.
This is mostly fluff and banter with some kissing and light vampire murder, and Daniel having some lingering angst about his madness.
This is obviously for the Valenfangs prompt "Red Wine."
Short Excerpt:
Daniel sat at the back of the wine bar on a hard wooden bench that had been carved into the wall, with tables arranged very few feet. A glass of red wine sat in front of him, untouched. It smelled of fruity with the acerbic tinge of alcohol. He was sure it had a slight bite to its flavor. He tried to remember the taste of red wine. He could almost conjure the flavor in his mind, but it felt distant, like trying to remember the details of a dream. Wine had never been his drink of choice, but he’d enjoyed it with meals, particularly steak.
Now, of course, he had only one preferred vintage. The waitress came by to check on him and he smiled, forcing himself not to stare at her neck, not to listen to the flow of blood in her veins that made his mouth water.
When she left, he relaxed. He needed to hunt, but he’d stumbled in here out of some strange need to hold a glass of wine, smell it, and be close to it. Such a strange desire and yet he could not let the urge go.
It scared him a little, truth be told. Inescapable urges, no matter how reasonable, were a hallmark of his madness. He’d come out of it but little things like this could be seen as a sign he wasn’t completely recovered. Or it was just a strange burst of nostalgia. Daniel had always been impulsive.
Daniel was surprised to se Marius approaching his table. He was tall and slender, wearing a button up shirt and slacks. His long blond hair was tied back into a ponytail, making him look a bit like an art professor. The paint under his fingernails added to the impression.
Marius sat across from him. The waitress scurried over, her blood so aromatic Daniel held the bench while she took Marius’ order, and only let go when she’d gone. His veins tightened with need. He was pushing it again, pushing himself. He used to enjoy pushing his hunger late into the night, but these days, given his recent issues, doing so could be risky.
And yet he loved how tantalizing the smell of blood was when he got this hungry, the way his veins constricted in his body as they cried out for that welcome relief of blood flowing through them again.
“Nice place,” Marius said, looking around. The wall to the left had a carving of grapes on a barrel etched into the wood.
Daniel shrugged. It was fine. A classy wine bar that served bottles in all price ranges and a variety of tapas. The kind of place he might have gone as a mortal with Armand, to try different vintages while Armand rooted through his thoughts, trying to pick out the different flavors. His stomach flipped at the memory of his maker. He wondered what Armand was doing right now, back in New York City, which was lousy with places like this.
The waitress brought Marius’ wine—a crisp white—and left. He smelled it, smiled, and set the glass down.
“What brought you here?”
Daniel didn’t really know. “Seemed inviting.”
Marius laughed. “So it does. Though it would be better with a nice roaring fire.”
Daniel gave him a look. “It’s eighty degrees outside.”
“It would still add to the atmosphere,” Marius said.

Hot Pink - Day 1
🪦 Grave Decisions
Armand/Daniel - Post-Canon - 3,031 words
Daniel is off by himself dealing with a personal matter when Armand finds him to make sure he's okay (and doesn't do anything stupid).
Written for @valenfangs for the prompt "Hot Pink," this went in a very different direction than I originally planned. But that's the fun of writing to prompts for me - sometimes things go places you don't expect. I do have more traditional V-Day content coming up in the next couple of weeks.
Short Excerpt:
Daniel sat in the bar, trying to do the crossword on his iPad, except the application kept changing the boxes when he typed and he ended up putting the answers in the wrong place. The whole process was frustrating and not helping to take his mind off things. He missed newsprint and pencils.
“Are you Daniel?”
He looked up from his iPad. A waitress was standing over his table holding a tray with a hot pink drink on top of it.
“I am,” Daniel said.
The waitress beamed. “Then this is for you.” She set down a cocktail napkin and then put the drink on top of it.
Daniel instinctively looked around the bar but he didn’t see any familiar faces. Certainly not a shock of auburn hair that belonged to the most likely culprit. He didn’t dare get his hopes up. Armand was busy at Court. And a scan of the room told him there were no immortals in the bar.
“Who is this from?” Daniel asked, annoyed. He wasn’t in the mood for these kinds of games. If someone was trying to cheer him up, they were going about it all wrong.
The waitress shrugged, clearly miffed at his attitude. “No idea. Someone called in the order. Enjoy.”
Daniel stared at the drink. It was the week’s drink special, advertised on the chalkboard at the front. Tomorrow was Valentine’s Day, so the cocktail was hot pink in color, with a pink curly straw, and a row of bright red cherries stuck on the stick of a small pink cocktail umbrella, served in a hurricane glass. It smelled of grenadine, vodka, and sugar. Daniel could practically taste its nauseating sugary sweetness. He would have hardly touched that kind of drink when he’d been mortal— hello, hangover —but even now, the smell made him feel mildly ill.
He did another mental sweep of the bar, but there was no sign of an immortal presence. So who’d sent over this abomination of a drink? Someone had to know where he was to call in the order.
He tapped his fingers on the table, waiting to see if the person might reveal themselves but no one did. Daniel made sure there wasn’t some kind of note on the glass or anything special about the contents of the drink.
And then, irritation building, Daniel stood. He left the bar and scanned the street out front. He was in a suburb of San Francisco, a town that was little more than housing developments. Its small downtown area had a few restaurants and bars but everything closed by midnight. At 11 pm, the streets were quiet.
He lit a cigarette and pulled out his phone. No messages. He did the time zone math. It was afternoon in France, so no one there was going to answer him now.
He took a drag on his cigarette and something in his awareness prickled. The presence of another immortal.

Armand/Lestat - Explicit - 3,097
Lestat comes across Armand alone in the Villa, and decides to see what he's up to. He teases him a bit but then one thing leads to another...
This was written for @valenfangs Day 12 - for the prompt "Fluffy Sweater"
Armand/Lestat are such a fun (read: hot) pairing because of all the tension, the bickering and bantering, and then the sheer amount of passion that leads to. This is Night Island Era, too, which is always fun to explore. I had a blast writing this and I hope you enjoy it!
Short Excerpt:
Lestat found Armand standing in the windows of the front parlor of his Villa, staring out. The window was over twice as tall as he was, extending up to edge of the high vaulted ceiling. Lestat approached him slowly, though he knew Armand must have sensed him, if not heard him. He peered around him to see what he was staring at with such determination.
Down on the private dock in front of the house, he spotted Daniel and Marius getting into a speedboat to go hunting. The boat left the dock and sped across the water toward the glittering lights of Miami.
“Your maker and your fledgling finding companionship together. That must be awkward, hm?” Lestat asked.
Armand turned and glared at him, his amber eyes filled with annoyance. “Don’t start.”
Lestat held up his hands. “I’m not starting anything. I’m merely observing.”
“You’ve never merely observed anything in your life,” Armand said stiffly, folding his arms over his chest. He wore a fluffy red sweater though the Spring air in Miami was too warm for it, and jeans. Such modern clothes, but otherwise he could have been the boy Lestat had first met, his auburn hair long and curling around his pale face, his cupid’s bow lips pressed into a tight line.
“Are you jealous? Perhaps you should have gone along,” Lestat said. He bent close and asked in a whisper: “Or were you not invited?”
Armand punched Lestat in the shoulder, his fist moving so fast that Lestat hardly saw it until it slammed into him.
Lestat shouted in feigned pain and grabbed his shoulder. “Still a vicious little monster,” Lestat rebuked.
“You should mind your own business,” Armand said tersely.

Swipe Right [AO3]
Armand/Daniel, Louis/Daniel - 5 Chapters - Explicit
Y'all, I'm so excited about this because this is, no joke, the first AU I've ever written in terms of truly being an alternate universe (I've done some canon divergent stuff but that's it.) I've just been so inspired by the wonderful AUs and AU ideas in this fandom and when I saw the prompt, I knew what I wanted to do.
This was written for @valenfangs for the prompt "Dating App."
Anyhow, I'm a little nervous because this is something I haven't done before but I'm so excited about this fic and I'm really happy with how it turned out. It's 5 chapters, all written (so it is complete), although there is potential for more chapters or a sequel so we'll see. I will post one chapter per week.
Also, where is that anon who asked if I'd ever write Louis/Daniel because uh... here you go. They are not the main focus but the first chapter is pretty much them so... You're welcome! I told you I never know what might happen!
Summary: In this modern, human AU, Daniel is a radio intern with a podcast who installs a Dating App to find love. He matches with a strange, pretty guy named Armand, and meets another gorgeous man, Louis, in a bar. Dating is complicated and weird, but Daniel just wants to find love.
Short Excerpt:
It was an alert from the new dating app he’d signed up for. His pulse quickened. He’d made a profile in a fit of loneliness the other night, a little tipsy and unable to sleep. For all his time spent talking to people, he never seemed to make any lasting romantic connections and the app was a desperate attempt to change that.
Most of the matches had seemed wrong to him immediately and while he didn’t mind the odd dick pic, he didn’t understand the point of sending them without so much as hello to accompany the photo, nor what he was meant to do when he received them. He’d sent one back once and the guy unmatched with him, which hadn’t helped his confidence. Since then, he’d pretty much written the app off as a failed experiment.
He looked at this new match. The guy was gorgeous, that was the first thing he noticed. Auburn hair curling around his chin, big brown eyes, pale skin, and a dusting of freckles. He was young, maybe a few years younger than him. In the photo, he was wearing a t-shirt (a rarity on these apps, most dudes went shirtless), but the funniest part was his profile photo made him look kind of bored. He was smiling faintly but like the photo had been taken by someone else holding him at gunpoint. Daniel found that endearing.
His profile said his name was Armand. He was twenty years old and a student at SFSU. He liked video games, science, and museums. Daniel had to admit he was intrigued. He accepted the match and then sent a short message: “Hi! You’re hot. I also love museums. Maybe we could go sometime.” He hit send and then immediately worried it was stupid. He resisted the urge to delete it. He silenced his phone and tossed it onto his bed.
He went back to editing the podcast, because he needed to get it uploaded by midnight so it could go out tomorrow on time. Not that any of his 67 subscribers ever complained if he was late.

A Ghost in Our House [AO3]
Armand/Louis - Mature - 3098 words
After traveling to New York City together in the early 1900s, Louis is living like a ghost in their shared home. Armand wants to bring back his passion and joie de vivre, but doesn't know how.
This was written for the @valenfangs prompt "Unrequited."
Before anyone gets upset, let me just say I don't think Armand's love here is unrequited, but at this point in time, Armand believes it is. Louis is so mired in his grief and misery that he is unable to appreciate or reciprocate the way Armand wants him to.
I find this era with them so fascinating because Louis describes it as entirely miserable and cold, and then Armand leaves him because he can't get him out of his malaise, so we know that's true, but also, I believe they had good nights and intimacy during this era, too.
Short Excerpt:
Armand looked down at Louis' pallid face, soft in sleep, surrounded by a mane of inky black hair. He spent countless hours studying Louis’ eyelashes, the little lines in his lips, the way his head rested on the small pillow. He was a gorgeous man and the death sleep rendered him more stunning, like a sculpture.
Armand was lingering. He had only opened his coffin to make sure he was there. Normally he did this check before sunrise to ensure Louis had made it home safe, but he hadn’t done so yesterday and thus he’d come in now after sunset to ease his worries.
Last night, Louis had torn out of their shared home like a tornado, whirling right past Armand who’d been in the living room hoping to catch him. It was as if Armand did not exist. More and more, Louis treated him like a ghost. Or worse, a hideous end table he’d rather pretend wasn’t there. So Armand had gone to his room and stayed there, not bothering to listen for his return, not bothering to ensure he was back before the sun came up, as he so often did.
Louis was younger in the blood so the death sleep took him sooner, held him longer. It was lucky, really, or Armand might not see Louis at all.
At least now he could see him sleeping, for all the good it did. He reached down into the coffin, stopping short of touching his face, fingers dangling just above his forehead. He wanted to feel his smooth skin, to have that contact, brief as it was. But he pulled his hand back. It wasn’t the same if the touch was stolen.
He would have it again. Louis would come out of his malaise. He’d been distant and broken since they left Paris, but there were moments of awe, of pleasure. Moments when Armand saw a spark, felt a change, and thought he might finally be snapping out of it, only for him to retreat back inside of himself again.
And yet here in New York he’d only gotten worse. He’d sunk further into his dark moods and now Armand had to sneak into his room to get glimpses of him sleeping, lest he never see him at all.
He snarled at the sleeping form, annoyed that Louis seemed determined to exist as a phantom and in turn, was making Armand into one as well.
Louis’ face twitched. His eyes fluttered. Armand held his breath. He should close the coffin and go, he knew that, and yet he couldn’t look away as Louis sucked in a breath, his chest rising as he came back to life. His eyes opened, searching around in a panic until they locked onto Armand, hovering above him.
“What is it?” Louis asked, sounding breathless.
“What do you mean?” Armand asked.
Louis sucked in air as if his vampire lungs required it and sat up slowly in his coffin. “Is there trouble?”
He looked scared and Armand’s heart squeezed. He wondered if Louis was having nightmares again. Strange that creatures such as them could dream even in the depths of death sleep, that even the comfort of oblivion eluded them.
“No trouble,” Armand said gently. He reached out but again stopped short of touching him.
Louis frowned. “Then why are you here?”

Valenfangs - Day 3 - Diamond
This is part 1 of 4 interconnected
💎 Diamond in the Rough 💎
Lestat/Daniel, Armand/Daniel - 2783 words - Mature
This is part 1 of 4 interconnected stories in a series I'm calling The Amethyst Ring which feature different characters and take place at different times but basically revolve around Daniel and Armand.
This was written for the @valenfangs prompt "diamond." (All stories in this series were written for a prompt.)
Summary: February, 1987. Daniel and Lestat search through the Night Island cellar for the perfect Valentine's Gift for Louis and discuss the situation they find themselves in with everyone on the island together.
Short Excerpt:
Daniel typed in the code. The keypad’s light turned an angry red. Daniel sighed. He tried another number, his own mortal birthday. Armand used Daniel’s birthday for almost everything. Again, a red light.
“Are you sure you’re supposed to go in there?” Lestat asked. “Seems as though you’ve been locked out.”
Daniel scowled at him. “It’s my house.”
“So you claim,” Lestat said, studying his fingernails, which he’d painted black earlier in the evening. “But Armand is the little master here.”
Daniel typed in another number. No dice. That was try number three. If his next one failed, it’d lock him out for the rest of the night unless he could get on Armand’s computer and figure out the override. Armand had taken Louis to the mainland, so he wasn’t around to unlock it.
“Is this really necessary? Isn’t there a jeweler on this island of yours?” Lestat asked.
“I thought you wanted something special,” Daniel said. “We have treasure from sunken ships down here. Stuff pilfered from the trickiest thieves. You won’t find this stuff at a jewelry store.”
Lestat leaned in close from behind him, putting his lips against Daniel’s ear. “Or you just want to get me alone.”
Daniel elbowed him in the stomach. Lestat grinned and ruffled his hair. Louis had been right, he was incorrigible.

Valenfangs - Day 14 - Pomegranate Seeds
💞 The Amethyst Ring - Part 4: Strange Beauty 💞
2013: Marius is ready to leave for Paris but Daniel wants to stay behind at Trinity Gate for a while longer… if Armand will have him.
This was written for the @valenfangs prompt "Pomegranate Seeds."
This is unapologetically a little bit sappy. There's angst, there's Armand being willfully obtuse and Daniel tugging his hair in frustration, but you know me. I'm a romantic. It's another Armand/Daniel reunion fic but you know I will never get tired of these, reading them or writing them. I hope you enjoy this final installment in this series of interconnected stories.
Short Excerpt:
Daniel caught up with Armand in the front foyer, where he was putting on a coat. He looked at Daniel with practiced boredom.
“Going out? I’ll come with you,” Daniel offered.
Armand fastened the buttons on his wool coat. Daniel wore a zip-front hoodie with light and dark purple stripes and jeans. Not entirely weather appropriate for New York in winter, but good enough.
“I’m just going for a walk,” Armand said.
“I like walks.” I like walks! Daniel immediately wished he could suck the words back into his mouth. God, no wonder Armand wasn’t taking him seriously.
Armand studied him for a long moment, and then shrugged. “If you insist.”
Not exactly an enthusiastic invitation but it wasn’t a no, so Daniel followed him out of the house and through the gate. The townhouse was on the edge of Central Park and they headed into the park, Armand walking at a steady clip in his gleaming Italian leather shoes that looked luxurious compared to Daniel’s worn Converse sneakers.
They walked in silence, Daniel trying to think of how to begin a conversation Armand wouldn’t run from. Finally, they reached a bench and Daniel grabbed his arm, pulling Armand to stop. “Hey, sit with me for a minute, will you?”
Armand stood still, Daniel’s hand gripping his arm, as he looked from the bench to Daniel. “You don’t need to explain, Daniel. I understand you must go.”
Daniel growled in frustration. “Just sit down, for god’s sake.”

Valenfangs - Day 8 - Rings
💍 The Amethyst Ring - Part 3: Rings 💍
In 2013, Daniel is searching through Trinity Gate for something. Benji catches him and wants to know why he's looking through Armand's stuff.
I had so much fun with this because I think it's so interesting how Daniel sort of arrives and Armand has this new family unit who don't really know him and he doesn't know them, and it's just a recipe for awkwardness and hilarity. (Daniel's reaction to the stepkids is another thing we were robbed of in canon, especially because one of them has a podcast! But I digress.)
This was written for the @valenfangs prompt "Rings."
Short Excerpt:
Daniel pulled the box out of the closet and took it to the bed, opening it to reveal dozens of rings in a velvet case, each slotted neatly into place. He searched through the first layer, then pulled it up and set it aside. This box was large: it had three layers of rings and Daniel had seen another one just like it beside it in the closet.
“Those aren’t yours.”
Daniel looked up to see Benji standing inside the doorway of Armand’s bedroom watching him reproachfully. He stood with his back straight to increase his apparent height and folded his arms over his chest.
“I know that,” Daniel said, trying to swallow his irritation at this guy—this kid —acting like he’d caught Daniel out. “Obviously.”
“You can’t just go through Dybbuk’s stuff,” Benji insisted.
Daniel snorted, remembering the hundreds if not thousands of times Armand had rifled through Daniel’s things as if they were his own. But Benji didn’t know their history beyond whatever Armand had told him. And given what he’d written in that damned book of his, he doubted it was very much, or very flattering. How the hell was Daniel supposed to explain?
And then he wondered if Armand might actually mind. He wouldn’t have years before, but so much had changed.
“I’m just looking for something,” Daniel said. “I don’t even know if he still has it, or if it’s here.” For all Daniel knew, it might still be in a drawer on Night Island, or Armand had thrown it into the River Thames when Daniel had left after their vicious fight back in 1994.
“What is it?” Benji asked, sounding a little less offended at Daniel’s invasion of Armand’s privacy.
“It’s a ring I gave him a long time ago,” Daniel said. “I wanted to get it engraved. If I can find it.”

Valenfangs - Day 7 - St. Valentine
❤️‍🩹 The Amethyst Ring - Part 2 - St Valentine ❤️‍🩹
Part 2 of 4 interconnected short stories about a ring. This part takes place in 1987 like Part 1, but this story features Armand and Daniel (with some very minor Armand/Louis). Daniel tries to connect with Armand after he's been avoiding him for a week.
This was written for the @valenfangs prompt "St. Valentine."
Excerpt:
“Of course,” Armand said softly, touching Louis’ shoulder as he sat in a chair by the window with a book in his hand. Armand pressed a kiss to his temple as Daniel watched from the doorway, trying to stay out of sight. “You know St. Valentine's Day is nothing to me.”
Daniel hadn’t intended to spy on them anymore than he’d wanted to interrupt. He’d simply come looking for Armand and found them in the midst of a quiet discussion, the bulk of which Daniel suspected was happening silently, at least on Armand’s end. He’d hung back to let them finish and now he was inadvertently watching as Armand’s hand was so lovingly set on Louis’ shoulder. He swallowed down the jealousy that threatened to bubble up.
“Thank you for understanding,” Louis said. “I’m sure you have others who long for your company tonight.” He shot the briefest look toward the doorway and Daniel inched backward along the wall, for all the good it did. Immortals could sense each other. Armand couldn’t get into his head but he could tell was there, if he hadn’t already heard his heartbeat.
Armand made a noise of acknowledgement and then came out of the room. He looked at Daniel pressed against the wall as if he were a fool and Daniel tried not to let it stoke the embers in his belly that were threatening to ignite.
“Hey, I was looking for you,” Daniel said, pushing off the wall. He played nervously with the contents of his pocket.
Armand stared at him expectantly. All of the warmth he’d had for Louis in the room was now gone. Daniel swallowed uneasily. Armand had been like this all week, avoiding him and acting cold whenever Daniel was around, if Daniel could even find him. He knew he was sleeping in the same coffin, if only because the scent of him lingered when Daniel awoke, but he was always gone before Daniel got to see him, and didn’t come to bed until Daniel was already in the throes of death sleep.
He looked through the doorway, where he could see Louis, and he heard someone else approaching. He grabbed Armand’s arm. “Can we go somewhere?”
Armand stared for another second and then finally said, “Lead the way.”
