Valéria -- Na Mais Profunda Saudade (Festival da Canção 2021)

This song can be summed up by one comment--"if France can send something stereotypically French [to the 2021 contest], why can't Portugal"?

Curiously, Portugal rarely, if ever, sends fado songs in the contest. 1976 has to be the only exception, though it was quite underrated at the time despite being quite deep. Na Mais Profunda Saudade takes on the familiar angst in these songs, but with a certain elegance and longing with permeates through it.

Valeria sings of a lost love, trying to use song to convey her emotion. It simultaneously brings one to flight and down into the depths, as there's a sweetness throughout the entire composition. And she does it so well, with a maturity that radiates from her, despite her young age.

The winner would be the opposite of that--Love is On My Side takes on the blues and has a sadder background to the lyrics. Plus it's in English--Portugal's first song completely in another tongue. Yet it managed to do better than expectations at Eurovision.

I could imagine Valeria doing the same, but how would it be more accessible to the crowd? Especially considering how strong the class of 2021 was...

Some funny character development. Liam is a pretty flirty guy, while Valéria is kinda more on the repressed side/can't pick up cues well. Y'know, since she's big and kinda scary, if she flirted people would probably be afraid so she ends up not being able to flirt/notice flirting.
