Colds are among the most common ailments, especially during flu season. 5. Minor Cuts and Skin Irritations

Taking a break from my usual fandom posting to tell y'all to GET YOUR FLU SHOTS.
I am typing this with one arm double the size of the other, tucked up close by my body, because of the flu shot. I am allergic to it. Every year since I was 4, the flu shot has made me swell up near the injection site for days, sometimes even as long as two weeks. It looks like there's an egg under my skin, and I can feel the fluid moving when I walk.
And y'know what?
I STILL GET THE SHOT.
Because I would rather be in pain than spread the flu. Because there are people in my community who could die if they got the flu. And getting the vaccine is a simple precaution I can take to reduce their risk of getting the flu. I do not want their death (or life-threatening illness, or long-lasting complications, or even just unpleasant sickness) on my conscience.
Vaccines work. When everyone gets them, the herd immunity can protect those whose vaccines weren't as effective, or those who can't get a vaccine (like those with severe egg allergies).
Unless you will go into anaphylactic shock from a flu shot, or your doctor has told you not to get it, you should go get your shot. It protects you, and it protects the vulnerable people around you.
At least in the US, the flu shot is offered for FREE at many large supermarkets (ie Kroger) and pharmacies (ie CVS), in addition to clinics and vaccination drives run by organizations near you. For more information or if you don't live in the US, you can check with your county/other local government's website. They should have a page directing you to places to get vaccinations.

Stay Healthy This Season: Get Your Flu Shot at Flowercity Pharmacy in Brampton
As flu season approaches, it's essential to prioritize your health and well-being. Flowercity Pharmacy in Brampton offers convenient flu shots to help you stay protected throughout the season. This quick and simple vaccination is an effective way to reduce your risk of illness, protect loved ones, and promote community health.
Why the Flu Shot is Important
The flu virus changes every year, which is why an annual flu shot is recommended. This vaccination can significantly lower your risk of contracting the flu, which can lead to severe complications, especially for young children, elderly adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. By getting vaccinated, you contribute to "herd immunity," reducing the likelihood of flu spread within your community.
How Flu Shots Work
Flu vaccines stimulate your immune system to produce antibodies, equipping your body to fight off the flu virus. Flowercity Pharmacy offers up-to-date flu vaccines that are tailored to target the most common and potentially severe flu strains anticipated for the season. The vaccine is quick, requiring only a few minutes, but it offers several months of protection.

Seniors aged 65 and older
Pregnant women
Individuals with chronic health conditions (like asthma, diabetes, and heart disease)
Young children
If you’re unsure whether a flu shot is suitable for you, our Flowercity Pharmacy team can provide guidance and answer any specific health-related questions.

When to See a Wound Care Specialist: Knowing the Right Time for Treatment
Wounds are a normal part of life, whether due to accidents, surgery, or health issues. While many wounds heal by themselves with primary care, some need special treatment to heal correctly and prevent problems. Knowing when to see a wound care specialist is essential for the best recovery.
In this blog, you'll discover the signs that it might be time to consult a wound care specialist. Spotting these signs early can significantly improve your healing and overall health.
Wound healing happens in a few stages:
Hemostasis: This is the first stage where the body stops bleeding by forming a clot at the wound site.
Inflammation: In this stage, the body sends white blood cells to the wound to fight any infection and start the healing process.
Proliferation: New tissue and blood vessels begin to form to replace the damaged ones.
Maturation: This final stage is when the wound closes completely, and the new tissue becomes stronger.
Typical Healing Time Frames
Cuts and Scrapes: These usually heal within a few days to a week.
Deeper Wounds or Surgical Incisions: These can take weeks to months to heal, depending on how serious they are and how well they're cared for. Knowing these stages and how long wounds typically take to heal can help you understand what's normal and when you might need to see a specialist for further care.
Signs a Wound Requires Specialist Attention
Non-Healing Wounds: If a wound isn't healing within 2-3 weeks, it may be considered non-healing. This includes wounds that remain open, haven't gotten smaller, or still bleed or ooze.
Signs of Infection: Be alert for redness, swelling, pus, more pain, or fever. These signs suggest the wound might be infected and need immediate medical care.
Chronic Wounds: Wounds like diabetic ulcers or pressure sores are likely to become chronic and require special treatment to avoid complications.
Changes in Wound Appearance: If the wound changes color, becomes darker, or grows in size, it's essential to see a specialist. These changes can indicate more severe problems that need expert care.
Common Conditions Treated by Wound Care Specialists
Diabetic Foot Ulcers: These are open sores that usually appear on the feet of people with diabetes. Due to poor circulation, they heal slowly and need special care to prevent infections and other complications.
Venous Ulcers: These wounds develop on the legs because of poor blood flow in the veins. They are often painful and require specific treatments to heal properly.
Pressure Ulcers: Also known as bedsores, these occur in areas where the skin is under constant pressure, usually in people who are bedridden. Proper management is essential to prevent serious infections.
Surgical Wounds: After surgery, wounds need close monitoring to ensure they heal properly and don't get infected.
Traumatic Wounds: Injuries from accidents or violence, like cuts or puncture wounds, may need specialized care to heal without complications.
Benefits of Early Specialist Intervention
Preventing Complications: Seeing a wound care specialist early can help prevent minor issues from turning into serious problems like infections or tissue damage.
Enhanced Healing Techniques: Specialists use advanced treatments, such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy, where patients breathe pure oxygen in a pressurized environment. This method helps speed up healing and improve tissue repair.
Personalized Treatment Plans: Wound care specialists create customized treatment plans based on each patient's unique needs, considering the type and location of the wound, as well as any underlying health conditions. This personalized approach ensures the best possible care and recovery.
How to Choose a Wound Care Specialist
Criteria for Selection: Certifications and Training: Make sure the specialist has the proper credentials and certifications in wound care.
Experience: Look for a specialist who has plenty of experience treating the specific type of wound you have.
Patient Reviews: Read reviews from other patients to get an idea of the quality of care and their satisfaction with the treatment they received.
Importance of Multidisciplinary Teams: Wound care frequently requires a team approach, including doctors, nurses, nutritionists, and therapists. This multidisciplinary team ensures comprehensive care by addressing all aspects of healing and recovery, providing a more complete and effective treatment plan for the patient.
Conclusion
It's important to know when to see a wound care specialist to ensure proper healing and prevent complications. Understanding the healing stages, identifying when specialist care is needed, and recognizing the benefits of early intervention can help you make better health choices. Choosing a qualified specialist and considering a multidisciplinary team can provide personalized and thorough care. Don't wait to seek specialist care; timely attention can significantly improve your recovery and overall health

I got an email from my grandpa today and all the draft responses I’ve been working on in my head sound like an 18th century letter that’s going to have to travel for months to reach him.
pandemic year 5 really has me feeling like me and a very small handful of people I know are living on an entirely different plane of existence than everyone else
#like I haven’t seen him in over a year. I’ve seen him 3 times since 2020#so I guess on the isolation and slow communication front it’s pretty similar#he used my chosen name. I haven’t changed my email yet but he used my chosen name#I don’t even care at this point if he never gets my pronouns right#I thought I’d never be able to tell him. I didn’t want to find out his politics were more important#he’s quiet and kind and he gives people expensive gifts any time he can afford it but he constantly forgets people’s allergies#so he might get you something you can’t have but whoever you pass it along to will love it#he cries at weddings and during church services and sometimes random holidays#he passes out in his rocking chair at every family function#he’s the unofficial photographer of every gathering ever since my great grandfather stopped being able to walk as much as the job requires#and he voted for trump in 2016 and has afaik an active nra membership#he once complimented my outfit by telling me he’d call me a stud if I was a guy#which like. ok. I have some notes#but uh. thanks?#idk I’m just. it sucks being so far away from everyone and everything because the rest of the world is ignoring an ongoing pandemic#I’m missing so much of my life and others lives and even parts of my own transition#I can make steps to reach out but it only goes so far if poeple#are unwilling to mask or vaccinate or even just ask what needs to happen to make it safe#so I don’t. idk. kill my partner#or become even more disabled than I currently am#my family’s been making steps and they’re taking me seriously but it’s all so slow and I’m still sore from bracing for rejection#I’ve been bracing for rejection for so so long it’s terrifying to reach out. about anything#this is not condusive to a healthy relationship lol#not sure what to do other than bonk myself on the head and say ‘get better’ tho#*bonk* ‘try again’#one step at a time ig#ahshitherewegoagain.jpg#.txt

have literally seen people go from posting abt like fuck cops 👎😡💢 EXCEPT OSHA 🥰💞💯 straight into boasting about ignoring speed limits. like i'm sorry for being a square ornwhatever but that is still a safety regulation. you are going to get someone killed.
#p#this is mostly about road safety because apparently this is a controversial opinion.#but also like.#get your fire alarm checked and your boiler serviced. get vaccinated. follow the instructions/risk assessments for medication and equipment#check that your crafting materials are actually food-safe if they're intended for food contact especially if you're selling them.#etc.#consider that even with small things you are very often not the only person you are endangering even if you can't see it#i have a v specific medical-adjacent example in mind bc it's come up a lot recently but there's SO many things this applies to#q

Lee Moran at HuffPost:
Then-President Donald Trump unloaded about Joe Biden and bombastically predicted he would beat his 2020 rival in a landslide in his expletive-laden last conversation with Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former longtime director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases revealed in his memoir.
Trump called Fauci from Air Force One on Nov. 1, 2020 — just two days before the election — in “what turned out to be” their final exchange, Fauci wrote in “On Call: A Doctor’s Journey in Public Service,” which debuted Tuesday. The Daily Beast and The New York Times shared excerpts from the book. Trump reportedly boasted to Fauci: “I am going to win this election by a fucking landslide. Just wait and see. I always did things my way. And I always win, no matter what all these other fucking people think. And that fucker Biden. He is so fucking stupid. I am going to kick his fucking ass in this election.” Trump lost the election, but continues to falsely claim it was stolen from him. Fauci served as chief medical adviser to the Biden White House until his retirement in 2022.
[...] Fauci also recalled his “first experience” of bearing the brunt of Trump’s rage during a call on June 3, 2020, when the then-president “started screaming at me” for correctly predicting immunity to coronavirus from vaccines would probably last six months to a year. Trump was furious by the implication that booster shots would likely be required after the administration of initial vaccines, which had yet to be rolled out.
Former NIAID head Dr. Anthony Fauci recounts in his newest memoir On Call: A Doctor’s Journey In Public Service that Donald Trump called Joe Biden “that fucker Biden” 2 days before the 2020 general elections and boasted about he was “going to win this election”.
