Shiro is a rather flamboyant individual with a flair for dramatics and a streak of vanity. On the outside he is collected, charismatic and polite, fashioning his passion for those few he cares for into a sharp point, while hiding his emotions behind a masked smile perfected over the centuries. Yet inwardly, beneath this confident, social exterior lies a tired, lost soul who constantly wonders how much more blood will stain his hands- but never does he forget the importance of all the lives he’s ended to get this far.

The biggest source of pain for him, would have to be the heart-wrenching betrayal of his adopted son, Arian, who he raised by himself in hiding for twenty six years. Shiro bore witness to Arian’s rather tragic birth, and when his old friend Kyouhei, grief-stricken over the loss of the human he chose, tried to kill his son in true draconic fashion- Shiro was forced to kill one of the only two friends’ he’d ever known. And when Arian developed an aptitude for killing small animals, at age five, Shiro should have known things would have ended this way, he should have known when at age twelve, Arian single-handedly tore three grown men to shreds. But he still cares for Arian too much, even after Arian literally stabbed him for having too much compassion.

He takes the appearance of a tall, androgynous male with wild white hair and remarkably rich purple eyes lined with black eyeliner, and he takes in stride the ability to stand out in a crowd. 

Beneath this appearance he hides his true nature, that he is in fact a pure-blooded dragon, an ancient and powerful one at that.

While he can appear human or elven if he so chooses, a few tell-tale signs of his true nature can give him away. He hides a thin, white scaled tail under his coat with purple fur on the end, and if his adrenaline is high, scales form on his hands and the tips of his fingers turn into wicked, five-inch claws that can tear through flesh and gouge bone with enough force. If he has nothing else at his disposal and is not exhausted, he can drastically affect the temperature of a room and freeze the moisture in the air. While his build is deceptively lean, his physical strength unshapeshifted is at least several times that of an average person of his structure, at least capable of breaking open a man’s sternum, but all of this power is limited. Switching back to his true form requires the freedom of space to do so- he can’t do a full shift while restrained.

Arian’s betrayal when the dragon rebellion in Nijiryuu was at it’s peak has permanently scarred Shiro -both physically and emotionally- and he hasn’t really given himself the time to process his own feelings of the event. He still suffers from amnesia of the period before and during his hibernation, but due to his brush with death the mental block is breaking, and his best form of coping is losing himself in the study of other worlds while trying to make sense of the mess his own world has become.

SHIRO, PALE REAPER - FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST CHIMERA VERSE

Human-animal chimera are a taboo, but we know better than to believe any determined alchemist will follow the rules. Amestris’ government is rotten to it’s core, and rot will always draw in flies.

In this verse, Shiro was born Nicholas Crowley, twin brother of Cyrus Crowley. Their mother died at their birth- but their father, Alexander, raised them on his own.

A skilled civilian alchemist with a decent fortune to his name thanks to marrying into a wealthy family- Alexander was very into collecting foreign pets from Xing and other far off countries, and developed a fascination for chimera after meeting Shou Tucker.

He joined a secret ring of alchemists interested in forbidden or heavily frowned upon sections of alchemy- but when they abandoned him for not producing results from questionable sources, Alexander took his pets and his young adult sons and did the unthinkable- created chimera out of them.

Cyrus, who had been fused with a python, did not survive. His personality was too sweet and kind to really fit a reptile, and the mix turned out to be a fatal failure. Nicholas, ever the protective brother, loved his sibling- and was enraged over his father’s betrayal.

But Alexander forcibly took the remaining twin and chose for him his most expensive and dangerous pet, a massive albino, man-eating lizard from southeastern Xing. The fusion was a surprising success- a little too successful, really, thanks to Nicholas’ grave and protective nature taking a rather vengeful turn- and that day, the Crowley family died out. Shiro, the survivor named himself- And in turn took Alexander Crowley’s notes with him after tearing the alchemist apart into an unrecognizable mess.

The only evidence his killer left behind was a message written in the victim’s blood, and as a result the killer was given a moniker, ‘Pale Reaper’.

Not long after, back in Central, it was discovered that Shou Tucker had turned his dog and daughter into a chimera- and the whole debacle with Scar started up. As a result the whole story faded into obscurity and was promptly forgotten. Now, much later, rumors are stirring that the Pale Reaper has returned after the death of two state alchemists in the South with the same message. “Astride a pale horse Death himself was seated, and in his path Hell followed.”

What defines him from your average human is the abnormal sharpness of his nails and teeth, and a long whip-like tail. But with abnormality being a staple of the Amestrian way, what’s one more, right?

The Greed I write is actually separated from Ling, and post-Brotherhood. Thanks to the Elrics and their studies involving the alchemy and alkahestry of various countries in the East and West, he now has a body to call his own, and he retains his shield, his unnatural features and the Ouroborus tattoo, but his regeneration is slow and has it’s limits, as he is dangerously close to human after his resurrection. 

In my older accounts he was single ship, but now I’m open to ships of varying kinds, as long as the chemistry’s right and you warn me first. He’s canon in personality, with a bit of a personal twist. 

 Greed, as his name implies, is filled with and motivated by his avarice. It could be said that the reason why he wanted all that life has to offer was because Greed didn’t knew exactly what he wanted, which fuels his desire to have it all. He is the only homunculus to defy Father, and the only one to openly taunt him. He has an easygoing charismatic arrogant personality and tends to do what he wants. He is also somewhat narcissistic, claiming part of the reason he doesn’t use his ultimate shield to his fullest extent is because it masks his attractive face. He claims to not hurt women and (to an extent children). In addition, he states he never lies. While he normally possesses a calm, confident nature, when angered he can be rather impulsive and ready to go into a fight with those he feels have wronged him but shows some capacity for adapting to his fights and is willing to protect his allies. On a side note, he seems very charismatic and has shown good leadership skills, first with his chimera friends and later with Edward, Darius, and Heinkel, which he attributes as to how he earns and deserve their loyalty in the first place. In addition, while he seems to see humans as weak and powerless, he never had sociopathic tendencies or even hatred towards humans the way the other homunculi were. In the end, he even grows to respect their power and tenacity.

Since his resurrection he mostly wanders from place to place, as now he has no roots to settle into with Amestris having moved on from the Promised Day, and he figures that Ling has his hands full in far-off Xing.

Greed finally goes to Xing, about two years after his resurrection and a year or so after the events of the Promised Day. While Ling was clearly pissed at him for lying and dying, he was very happy to see Greed again. And when Greed realized how much the kid had on his plate, he couldn’t very well leave again. While he stays in Xing, he comes to realize he’s way over his head when it comes to being human and what that means.

Greed grew up the third oldest child of a crime family. It’s been expected of him to work within the family business, and he has a love/hate relationship with the reputation his family name gives him. In reality, he’s got no interest in what his family does and dreams of one day opening a bar/nightclub. For now, he just works as a simple bartender, lives in a cluttered apartment, and he’s estranged from his family to some extent. It doesn’t stop them from dropping into his life and harassing him, though. All his life, he’s had some sort of mental connection with a man he’s never met. They share pain sometimes, and dreams, and all this time, Greed’s been raised to avoid the call of that connection- until that man finds him.

He probably shouldn’t have snuck into the palace the way he had, and though he loathed to admit it, Greed should have taken Mustang up on his offer to contact Ling before the former homunculus decided to cross the desert to Xing.

But Greed was impatient, after all it took him long enough to even consider the idea of seeing Ling again, and had been alive for almost two more years before he finally stopped making up excuses. It had taken meeting a stranger in a bar and venting his problems to her to realize how ridiculous his reasons had been.

Now, thanks to that impatience he was stuck waiting for Ling in a cell thanks to a very alarmed and very confused guard, who had sensed his chi when he snuck in and intended to kill him on the spot until they realized that he looked almost exactly like the Emperor. 

Laughter echoed through the walls of his cell. He knew he’d be out of here soon enough once Ling got wind that he was here, and that the wait wouldn’t be long at all. And a grin lit up his features as he heard the sound of hurried footsteps coming towards his cell, and a guard shouting, “Wait, your highness! The intruder is dangerous and I don’t-” 

His wine red gaze flicked up, and with the jerk of his head, the cowl he wore for travel fell from his head, revealing a very dusty homunculus that looked like the spitting image of Ling himself. The grin on his face widened to show shark-like teeth.

“Yo, took ya long enough.” His eyes flicked from Ling’s face to the cell around him. “Nice place you got here, kid. Very cozy.” Amused, he added, “I might’ve taken a nap if you took any longer.”

Headcanon for Greed

I never really explain how I came up with Greed's resurrection Post Brotherhood, but I put more thought into it than I've said so far.

Greed was brought back by both the Elrics, but as Ed lost his alchemy at the end of the Promised Day, he participated more with materials and research than the transmutation itself. There was a possibility that as Greed was a human-based homunculus the Gate didn't take the core of him and that bits of him survived. Pride claimed that as they were connected through Hohenheim's bloodline he was perfect as a vessel, and Ed remembered this. So Ed and Al went to the area where the Gate took Father, and using the right ingredients mixed with alkahestry, Amestrian alchemy and Cretan alchemy, as well as Ling's blood and their own, they create a "container" compatible with Greed and draw what's left of Greed into it- bringing him back. It's only enough to bring Greed's most dominant soul back- so while he still has his in-human qualities he only has one life to spend.

Not to mention the transfer took a lot out of Greed and he had to acclimate for a few months. Ed and Al probably didn't tell Ling the reason behind needing his blood and just answered "research" because they weren't sure Greed would even be the same Greed.

Also I imagine when Ed first pitched the idea Al looked at Ed like he had lost his mind and protested furiously before giving in with the research and variables they had access to this time around.

She then placed her forehead against his. " I don't know if you get this often, but you are cute." She laughed while closing her eyes.

He’s briefly surprised, but it quickly melts into amusement and he chuckles lowly. The hand with his ouroborus covers over one of hers. “Tch, I don’t know if you knew, but I do get that often, yeah.”

“I could say the same to a woman as beautiful as yourself. Shame though- I didn’t catch your name. Might’ve just forgotten, though- my memory’s not so great as of late.”

❅- Favorite time of the year?

Greed loves the springtime- particularly because people like to throw out perfectly good things while “spring cleaning” and he’ll sometimes catch someone having a yard sale. There was also this one time Dolcetto was acting particularly odd at the time and did some pretty amusing things. Stuff that Greed’s not sure how to feel remembering that time- that shit was hilarious, but definitely weird.

Shiro has a particular preference for autumn, surprisingly enough. One might expect it would be winter, considering his affinity for ice, water and the color white. Yet, Shiro loves the more temperate season- as Nijiryuu is rather cold year round. The myriad of colors that the Capital takes during the season of autumn give a real taste of why it’s called “The City of Lights”- as not only do the leaves of trees turn to shades of red, gold, orange and brown, but during the autumn solstice a festival is held and all of the many paper lanterns throughout the city are replaced with new ones for the next year- all of them every color possible. Then, as the sun sets, all of the lanterns are lit up and fireworks shoot off into the sky, while thousands of people from throughout the country gather with wares and food, children run through the streets, and the humans revere the Great Dragon with a massive paper replica, rather ironically. The humans and Shiro both have forgotten the deeper irony- and for Shiro, watching that paper dragon fills him with an indescribable sense of familiarity, affection, and loss in a mess he doesn’t understand yet always draws him in.

‽- Something your muse has problem in understanding

Greed doesn’t know how to speak or read Xingese in the slightest- and this can prove to be a particularly frustrating problem when someone from Xing approaches him and starts bowing while shouting rapid fire bits of the language at him. While he’s happy to be worshiped because who wouldn’t worship this? he’s pretty sure they’re just mistaking him for Ling. After all, the kid is Emperor.

In a few of the worlds Shiro has traveled, he did not take well to discovering the function of a pop-up toaster. Let’s just say the whole experience was rather embarrassing and he had to explain why there were bits of machinery and toast everywhere along with a square hole in the wall.

His first response will always be the same, but Greed honestly desires more than just power- he admitted to himself already that he already has what he’s always wanted, and that was rather cheesy enough, friends.

Shiro wants a world where children aren’t killed for being different- where dragons aren’t considered mere mindless, monstrous beasts, and are instead treated as equals. A world where dragons can be themselves- scales and all. He’s found however that the price he was willing to pay for that dream may have cost him too much, in the end. Was his ideals worth the crimes he and Arian have committed?

After sharing a body with Ling, Greed has developed a tendency to enter buildings through windows instead of the front door sometimes. He also likes to visit and bug Ed or Al occasionally since the Elrics brought him back and Ling’s a country away.
