"Family Outting"

I am finally here to bring you my longest piece to date! I started this baby back on March 3rd. I recovered from art block and many other struggles to get to this point! I am so unbelievably happy!

[Something important to add: I’ve turned Markus into my OC, so he’s no longer a redesign of Offenderman! Since both of them are very, VERY different in personality, morals, and designs. I am however making another design and AU for Offender in another post! Which is why this post was delayed!]

Now onto the new and improved head-canons! [Going from left to right.]

Markus Sinclair:

The youngest! Yet somehow he is the only one to inhabit their father’s tallness gene. [He is the younger twin to Trender.]

Markus is a proud bisexual and aceflux man!

Markus Sinclair took his face name from his favourite character, from his favourite detective movie: The Twelve Painted Women. [He watched that movie religiously when he was a little boy.]

A hopeless romantic. A firm believer of love at first sight, he plans the most romantic candlelit dinners, and enjoys writing his own love poems. [A perfect golden retriever boyfriend.]

Despite being a prince, Markus has devoted his life to be the best detective he can be to help and protect the innocent. [Bonus: Markus does those cheesy dialogue intro lines, for example: “February 18, 1998, I was sitting down with a cup of coffee, reading the morning newspaper, until something caught my eye.” Basically that. Which I adore for him. His family also enjoys it, except for Trender.]

Markus is a well known writer and poet, under the pen name of "Sonnet V. Sparks” His popular works being: “In My Folly,” “My Broken Bones Will Mend Your Soul,” and “My Poems for Your Heart”

My dearest boy plays the guitar and piano, he enjoys playing tunes to his siblings and father.

Despite him loving his job, it absolutely destroys him. Which is why he’s the only child of Cabadath who doesn’t live in the castle. So that he can drink himself to death alone in peace.

Slender:

The second oldest [However this is not public knowledge, and everyone views Slender as the oldest twin.]

Slender is a distinguished gay who prefers to be called an it, but doesn’t mind being identified with male pronouns.

Slender will be the next in line to be king. [He takes his duties very seriously, but his father likes to spoil him, meaning he takes on less duties then it would like to.]

Slender very much adores and admires nature, most of his free time is dedicated to exploring the wilderness and documenting anything new. [Slender has written a well received encyclopedia of new types of plants/trees, animals, rocks/minerals, and insects.]

Speaking of him liking nature, Slender has been given a blessing from Mother Nature herself, allowing it to be able to talk to animals, insects, and trees.

To be honest, Slender is daddy’s boy at heart. He absolutely adores his father. When he was younger he would sneak into Cabadath’s wardrobe and try on his clothes and pretend to be him.]

Slender has mastered shapeshifting to a tee. [Its favourite things to shapeshift into is a huge white deer, wolf, centipede, spider, and raven.]

Since Slender loves animals so much, my little prince is a vegetarian.

Splendor:

The oldest son! [He hates this, which is why he states to everyone that Slender is the oldest twin.]

Splendor is pansexual and asexual.

Much like Slender, Splendor loves animals! But instead of being a vegetarian, Splendor is a vegan.

Splendor and Slender are identical twins! When they were younger the only thing telling them apart were their tendrils, until Slender started to get its scars. [The only reason why Splendor looks way different from Slender now is because Markus, his baby brother, was ashamed of having a visible mouth, so Splendor used his tiny knowledge of shapeshifting to make it appear that he has a mouth and eyes to help with Markus’ self-esteem. He’s grown to love these features.]

Splendor’s personality differs from who he is around at the time. He’s calm, level-headed, and intelligent around his father, Markus, Trender, and anyone else; but around Slender, Splendor acts silly, carefree, and energetic!

Dabbles in facepaint/makeup. To make his face stand out, examples: drawing on rainbow freckles, red swirls to mimic cartoon blush, little butterflies, paw prints, etc. [He also puts stickers on his face from time to time.]

A tad bit overprotective of his siblings, especially his twin, Slender.

While all of his other siblings have secure jobs, Splendor is the only one who hasn’t pinned down a job yet, not that he has to, being a prince and all. [He’s been a baker, ringmaster, toy maker, babysitter, nurse, and teacher! Right now he’s a daycare teacher.]

Trender:

The secondest youngest. [Only older than Markus by a whole two minutes.]

Trender is a triple A battery, with them being asexual, aromantic, and agender.

Trender is creatively gifted! Trender has explored many creative hobbies over the years, and has excelled at all of them in a small amount of time. Their favourites being sculpting, beading, photography, calligraphy, and drawing/painting.

If anything were to happen to Slender, Trender would be next in line to rule over the kingdom and their people.

Trender barely talks at all, they enjoy listening to people a lot more. Trender really enjoys listening to their family members. Although they do enjoy talking to their twin, Markus quite a bit.

Trender’s face name was not something they picked out themselves. Splendor picked it out actually to match both him and his twin. Trender doesn’t mind it, as they couldn’t decide on one for the longest time.

If you managed to see their bare back, you’d see that it was completely covered in scars. [From the time they were kidnapped and used as slave labour for their special and rare type of tendrils.]

Trender runs many successful side businesses! From selling their sculptures, paintings, and their beading works on an online shop. [Trender’s two main jobs is a therapist/psychologist, as once again, they enjoy listening to people and helping them. The second one being a fashion designer/professional tailor, although they despise fast fashion. Trender actually has a brain compared to the other greedy designers. Trender cares to bring affordable and stylish clothes for people who need them.

I wanted to add that any drawings before this that have head-canons are outdated! So please disregard them! I've already most likely deleted most of my old Markus Sinclair art because it is still attached to the tag: Offenderman. I can't wait to post Markus under the tag: Slender/Creepypasta OC! I'll leave the old drawing alone for you to see! [All new drawings/head-canons will be using the: No Humans AU]

Anyways! Thank you to all who waited for this drawing to come out! I hope you'll like it as much as you liked the old one I posted back in 2022! it's crazy to see the improvement! [Here's the old one for you to see!]

There was no sign off. But she could read his handwriting in the dark. Still. Like a fool she took the train from Atlanta to New York and waited at the docks for him on the day of his expected arrival. She has no idea how he did it. But he never showed. She saw the rest of his company. She even saw Margie’s Ron. But no Joe.

In his defense, he had a right to be jealous for her attention, since it was their first shared birthday party away from home. Hoping to appease him, she tried to include him in the conversation. But every time she turned to ask Sidney something Leckie somehow drew her attention back into his orbit. His wide blue eyes, so much like her old babydoll's that Sid had broken when they were children, sparkling with glee.

Soon talking had turned to dancing, and Genie, four beers in, had forgotten why she was out in the first place. Leckie whirled her about the room. He wasn’t a great dancer, but he made up for his lack of technique with enthusiasm. And anyways, she was a real dead hoofer herself, so she had no room to complain.

Sweaty and giggling, unable to catch her breath, lungs aching, they left the makeshift dance floor, only to find that their friends had all abandoned them.

Gene is sorting through his textbooks. He can’t see out of his left eye. It’s completely swollen shut. A smaller body sidles up to him, leaning against the cool, worn blue rows of lockers.

He looks over and sees that it’s Shelton. Snafu. Situation-Normal-All-Fucked-Up. He got the name from Burgie. Back in eighth grade when he snorted a line of coke in the back of the school bus on the way to the annual DC field trip and then immediately puked up bile onto the seat in front of him. Back then Burgie and Snafu had still been childhood best friends, so he had been in the splash zone so to speak. This was before he started running track with Gene and Bill and fell in with them instead.

He had shouted with disgust, and declared his friend was acting completely and utterly fucked in the head. Robert Leckie, pretentious asshole extraordinaire, sitting a row in front, had turned in his seat and with his dumbass smirk had said, “So, then, he’s acting like his normal self?”

Burgie, still livid about the whole thing, turned to Shelton and told him, “Yeah. A real fucking Snafu.”

After that it just sort of stuck.

Friedrich had tried to insist that as lead for the mission, he should hold all the papers himself. But Isabella had argued incessantly that it would be odd for a man to be holding his brother-in-law’s identification. He could not find a reasonable rebuttal to her and had given up trying to express the deep dread he was feeling about this entire thing. No one was listening to him anyhow. Not the Commander, not Isabella, and frustratingly, not Pleun. Pleun was meant to always be on his side. But somehow, they all had been convinced that it was possible to get Andrews back to England. That they would be able to get away with it.

Pretty much agreed. After all, it's called a FAN Fiction, meaning loving the fictional work you're writing about is a key ingredient to writing stuff like that.

I know my fix fic for Beauty and the Beast by Disney, for example, would definitely try to be as close to classic (pre-Woolverton) Disney as possible, be closer to an actual adaptation of the Villeneuve/Beaumont Beauty and the Beast fairy tale, yet still having its old charm, rather than the more Dreamworks-esque version we got that was ham-fisted regarding radical feminism and barely even resembled the work it adapted at all, even regarding themes (on that note, I may have to write an entry explaining how the moral of true beauty coming from within and don't judge a book by its cover is one of the most abused morals in existence that always tended to be broken ultimately. It ought to be a good moral, but unfortunately, it has an annoying tendency to glorify ugliness as ideal while anyone who's even remotely conventionally attractive is villified in the worst manner possible. A similar problem existed with Shrek ultimately as well, especially in the sequels with Prince Charming. What a waste of a character. Could have gotten Phoebus from THOND by Disney in terms of characterization including Shrek and Charming actually becoming friends, or at least respectful to each other, but we got the cliched Mr. Wrong instead.).

I also intend to do a fix fic for Peace Walker that makes sure to align itself with canon up to that point (ie, I don't jettison canon like Kojima did willy-nilly in that game and later on. Even have some ideas for an actual way for Zero to start his fall WITHOUT him nearly framing Big Boss late in the game and tie it to Hot Coldman, and even have it follow up Gene's revelation in Portable Ops.), and even Metal Gear Solid V as well, one that gives dignity to all the characters and not basically be mouthpieces for political views by the creator.

And I have an AU planned where the Empire ruled unopposed in Star Wars, called Imperial Reigns, and in that case, while something of a radical departure, even that technically adhered to the spirit of Star Wars in so far as it being a direct response to George Lucas's repeated bragging about modeling the Rebels, the heroes, after communists like the Vietcong and the Empire on America, and also bragging about tricking American audiences. Of course, one of the biggest problems I'm facing is how to retain Vader's core character WITHOUT having him turn back to the light side. Unlike Woolverton and how she handled Maleficent, I FULLY intend to actually RESPECT Vader's characterization from canon. I'm also wondering how Luke and Leia will factor into all of this (Yoda and Obi-Wan I'm probably going to have them die out. Hey, can't have it be Imperial Reigns if they are still alive, can I?).

Fandom Problem #4050

i know this is a controversial take on Tumblr dot com but, sometimes I actually LIKE the canon, and would like to see more like it. Which is the reason WHY i participate in fandom in the first, too seek out fanworks by other people who ostensibly "like" the same thing as me, to expand on the canon.

But "fuck canon!" is the trendier thing so it's kinda bizarre to me how people resent canon so much that they take it apart and reassemble it it ways that don't even slightly resemble the canon. It's not always BAD it's just, "what does this even have to do with the original anymore?"

"What about This Thing, except in a completely different setting, with a completely different story, and characters that all look different and act different--" okay but that's no longer This Thing, it's A Completely Different Thing, and I just wanna find more like This Thing because I love This Thing so much, and thought I was looking for other people who also loved This Thing but instead they actually make a big show of how much they hate This Thing.

i'm sure i just spammed your notifs but sis!!!! usurper!gojo!!!!!! i'm in love with your writing ugh and i have a question. have you thought about the reader in canon? is she a sorcerer? a civilian? are she and gojo still together?

ADJFHDB ur good i think its so cool when i can tell someone's going through a specific tag of mine, im flattered u like the concept & my work that much!!!! ironically up until i got this ask i hadn't thought abt that reader in canon but after some pondering i kinda fell in love with the idea n here's what i came up with.

i think she is a sorcerer! not like special grade, id put her at around nanami's level; that is to say, having achieved black flash but not Hugely powerful (have i thought abt her ability? no i do not have the brain power for that sorry kajhbdf). now in the au she n gojo r childhood friends—i don't rlly wanna apply that here, bc his childhood in canon is implied to be v heavily influenced by his status & his clan and i imagine her to have come from a non-sorcerer family (or perhaps one only vaguely involved with the society, like maybe one of her parents was one of those people who could see curses but not a sorcerer??? idk, trying to apply the low-ranking-noble thing here) but either way not someone who he would've known since an early age. however since they're the same age theyd be in the same grade in hs! so i like the idea of her going to the kyoto school, while hes at the tokyo one, and they meet at the goodwill event thing they do every year where he.....

well, in essence, falls in love right away and in classic gojo fashion decides the best way to express that is though aggressive pigtail pulling in the form of beating her ass �� bc of course. so she Hates him at first, and he is Madly In Love

now i v much like the idea of them spending the next many years in that oh-so-classic frenemies situation where hes silently pining after her while being A Menace and shes slowly falling for him despite herself lmfao. maybe she even transfers to tokyo after their initial meeting for whatever reason??? idk! not gonna get too into it but i do think by the time they graduate it evolves from him pestering her while shes annoyed into a close friendship where...... he still. pesters her. bc hes gojo pfft do also like the idea of her becoming a teacher (or otherwise working for the school) when theyre adults as well <333 bc i am a cliche and i simply adore it <333 i love the idea of her being a radical progressive wrt the society much like him n nanami, n thats one of the reasons he's so head-over-heels (sometimes...... he gets her to rant abt how the higher ups suck and the system is broken...... and watches with heart-eyes as she's angrily rambling.....) but yeah. also i rlly like the idea of her n nanami being v close solely bc theyre very similar KJAHSBF (this is also true in the au btw hes one of gojo's royal advisors i just havent mentioned it lol).

ANYWAYYYY i think!!! round abt the time hes idk 25 he comes to her and is like listen so the elders in my clan r rlly riding my ass to get married and pass on my genes and shit (not a lie, he just doesnt really care) and like shoko said she wouldnt do it (blatant lie he never asked her) soooooo u wanna maybe get hitched??? n reader's hesitant at first but then hes like look u n i share the same ambitions abt sorcerer society, we both wanna change it, its good for us to get married yanno? i give u the gojo name and suddenly theyve got two of us to contend with, two of us to send off on missions if they dont want us around, whaddya say?

and as established in the au one-shots, miss reader is an ambitious lil thing. n sure this might pose some issues (despite herself she is in fact v much in love with this fucker shes not super sure her heart could take being married to him......) but hes right, marrying the strongest sorcerer puts her in a position to help him change their society for the better and also hes Loaded who tf Wouldnt want a piece of that gojo fortune so she says fuck it why not.

and cue the agonizing "we're literally married and pining but havent even figured it out yet" slow burn as shoko and nanami and megumi and literally everyone who even somewhat knows them is tearing out their hair watching them KSJDHFB

So I decided that for my day nine, I’d do a list of some of my favorite fics to give the fandom authors some recognition. Of course, all of our fanfic authors are amazing and I’m so grateful that they do what they do, but these are just a few of my favorites.

Okay okay so this is a pretty dark fic, but god is it beautiful. After waking up from Cryo, Clarke and Spacekru try to figure out what to do about this new planet situation, but Clarke isn’t handling it very well and attempts a suicide. Like I said, pretty dark and serious, so if that isn’t your thing don’t read, but it’s amazing

Three Lives, Three Loves, One Face by @these-dreams-go-on (complete)

This fic has a ton of my favorite themes all mashed together and it’s amazing. Basically it’s similar to the Josephine!Clarke situation of s6, but Wanheda is an actual manifestation also inhabiting Clarke’s body so when Josie gets put into Clarke, Wanheda takes over and goes mass murder on Sanctum. Phenomenal fic, I’ve read it so many times and I adore it

Into The Anomaly by @fuckitup-in-style (WIP)

Time Travel AU!!! Starts after s6, but resets back to s1 canon divergence. The hundred all wake up on dropships and they all remember up until their deaths, and then it’s this thing where the mains all take charge and start herding up their crew. Just- if you like time travel fix-its, this is p e r f e c t please read it

And Now You’re Home by @asroarke (complete)

I just read this one recently and g o d is it amazing. After being left alone during Praimfaya, Clarke finds herself becoming desperate after being alone for so long. Until she finds out there’s been a grounder watching her the whole time. Grounder!Bellamy AU, with some accidental pregnancy that just makes it even cuter

I Found Peace in Your Violence by @eyessharpweaponshot (WIP)

I just found this fic a few days ago and holy shit is it a piece of art. I finally went through and read the entire 80k fic last night, it’s absolutely enthralling. Basically, there’s this gene called HTS and Clarke ends up having it, and so does Bellamy, and it’s just a beautiful story from both a romance and a plot standpoint. Such an interesting concept

This isn’t a super long fic, it’s 20k right now and hasn’t been updated in a few months but what’s there is amazing. So the delinquent group is desperately trying to get Bellamy and Clarke together since they’re constantly denying their chemistry, but what the delinquents don’t know is that Clarke and Bell have actually already been together in secret and it’s such a fun fic, highly recommend

Don’t Wake Me, I’m Not Dreaming by grumpybell (complete) (I can’t find their tumblr sorry)

A very interesting AU where Clarke can see into other people’s dreams. She’s been meeting Bellamy in his dreams for years, him being the only person who could actually see her. Guess what happens when they meet in person? Probably not what you expect. Read the fic to find out, you’ll love it

I haven’t finished this fic yet, but what I’ve read so far is wonderful. Basically Clarke, Bell and Octavia all grew up in a trailer park together, and eventually Clarke has had enough of her mom’s bullshit and decides to get out. Bellamy and Octavia go with her

Broken Body, Broken Spirit by @vmplvr1977 (complete)

I love love love this fic!! It basically mashes together the worlds of The 100 and Deus-ex, and if you don’t know what the latter is don’t worry too much, the fic gives all the backstory you’ll need!! Basically Clarke gets severly injured and ends up with augmented limbs, and Lexa, thinking Clarke dead, has some pretty severe reactions to it all. Kind of an enemies-to-lovers, but it’s set after the s2 finale

Clarke Kom Azgeda by FMLClexa (WIP)

This fic combines so many of my favorite ideas it’s amazing. Coming back after a long hiatus, basically Clarke gets sent down to Earth alone and ends up in Azgeda territory. She’s tortured and trained into Nia’s top assassin for years, and eventually gets the order to infiltrate Polis and kill the commander. You can guess how that goes

A Riffle and the Sea by Follower_Of_Mania (complete)

I will say it’s been a while since I read this fic but it’s amazing. Another Clarke gets sent to Earth alone AU, but she gets adopted by Floukru and trained to be a seriously badass killer grounder, like even Lexa is pretty put off by her. Clarke and Lexa develop this really interesting relationship where half the time you can’t tell if they love or hate each other and it’s amazing

Ascendants by whiteleopard1124 (WIP)

So this isn’t entirely clexa, it’s also clarke x luna but it’s clexa enough. Basically Clarke and the hundred get injected with this solution before being sent to the ground, and it causes certain people to develop supernatural powers. But Clarke gets injected with a special serum that causes her to be extra-OP but like in a very very good way

doing the impossible (with you) by snowandwolves (WIP)

Another Time Travel AU where Clarke kills herself and, after having a discussion with the goddess of death herself, wakes up back in time. She (and her accomplices) work out how to rewrite their story and make everything go better than it did last time. One of the best time travel fics, in my opinion

Healer on the Ground by Owlmemaybe (WIP)

This has long been one of my favorite fics, I love AUs where Clarke turns grounder, and that’s exactly what this is. Basically Clarke has a healing talent, so she can heal herself and others on command, and during s1 gets separated from the 100 and ends up with Heda. Another fic that isn’t likely to get updated, but it’s 100k of goodness that you h a v e to read

Whispers In The Dark (Lead Us To The Light) by JadelynDeath (WIP)

This one also hasn’t been updated very recently, but it’s still 50k good words to enjoy. Wanheda!Clarke AU where Death is a real being and takes a liking to Clarke before she even touches the ground, and once on Earth Clarke is an absolute badass in leading the delinquents.

(my) Destruction Within Your Mouth by @entirelytookeen (WIP)

It took me so long to actually finish this fic once I started reading because oh my god the angst, it was actually too much for me. This is a beautifully written story, so many emotions, can’t recommend it enough. Basically, Clarke gets separated from the 100 and ends up temporarily mute while she’s taken in by Heda

She’s a maniac by ChocDog (complete)

Another big-time favorite, this has badass commanders Heda and Wanheda. The grounder culture is different in this fic, but in such a good way. They’re much more tribal than is portrayed in the show, preferring not much clothing, bloodthirstiness, but it’s amazing. Also Bellamy comes in and makes a fuss of things

Through the Looking Glass by RhinoMouse (WIP)

Role Reversal AU where Lexa comes down with the 100 and Clarke is a BAMF Commander of the grounders. It’s been a really long time since I’ve read this one but I remember loving every second of it. Faintly follows the s2 plot, but it’s different enough that not a second of it is boring

Can you See Me? by clexawarrior (complicated)

Okay so basically this story was discontinued, but the author left a summary of how it would’ve played out at the end, so it’s... complicated. But this is another one of my favorites!! Lexa was at the explosion on the bridge and got injured, Clarke brings her back to the dropship to care for her. A lot of sexual tension ensues

From The Ashes by ArchonsVoice (complete)

I love love love this fic!!! So basically the dropship landed in the sea rather than on land, the ship explodes, leaving Clarke stranded alone in the middle of the ocean. She’s rescued by a clan called Tseekru and after years of living with them, has a run-in with our one and only Heda and sets this whole thing going. Amazing fic, so many twists

Returning to Hell by ElseworldKara, littleraider99 (complete)

If you haven’t read this fic what have you even been doing honestly. Set two years after the s2 finale, Clarke leads the coalition beside Heda, and she’s returned to Arkadia to finally tell them to get their shit together or suffer the consequences. Very dark, a lot of character bashing on Abby, Bellamy, and others. An inspiration for many of my own fics

Then There Were Two by TheWorldNeedsMoreOctaven (WIP)

I haven’t read the most recent chapters of this, but it’s phenomenal. ABO universe where Clarke is the only omega sent down in the hundred (later followed by Raven), and they have to deal with the grounders and nature. It’s a lot more interesting than I make it sound, promise. Also very octavia/raven based too

Doctor on the Ground by @underneaththecovers-au (WIP)

Very angsty, very smutty fic. Clarke finds an injured Lexa while out of camp and takes her to the bunker to help her heal. Lexa pretends she can’t understand English, but even with the barrier, things get heated very quickly. You can imagine the chaos when Lexa’s secret gets out. Must-read

Modern AU

Vantage Point by thatoneloser_kid (complete)

This is pretty short, only 16k words, but god is it good. If you like dark!clarke, this is the story for you. Clarke, Lexa, Octavia, and Raven are all a bunch of criminals who run around- saving people?? That makes it sound like a superhero story but no, they’re all badass. Clarke is literally a psychopathic ex-assassin. It’s just an amazing fic

Are You A Kidnapper? (Because You Abducted My Heart) by 707 (complete)

This isn’t normally the type of fic that I like to read but I’m so glad I picked it up. So Clarke and Lexa have this hatred going on between them that’s actually just hidden attraction, and they’re finally forced to address it when they get kidnapped and locked in a room together. This fic has it all, fluff, smut, angst, an amazing plot, it’s just all around wonderful

Make Two Halves Whole by awkwardrainbow, Lexawoodz (WIP)

This one I also don’t remember all that much about other than that it was amazing. It’s been years since it was updated, though, so I doubt we’ll get any more, but what’s there is 80k worth of goodness. Clarke and Lexa meet online through Twitter, living on opposite sides of the US, but still manage to fall in love with each other

So this is another long-time favorite of mine!! It’s a 36k oneshot where Clarke moves into a house that ghost Lexa haunts but instead of being creeped out Clarke just starts chatting up the ghost and they become roommate buddies. Such a good fic, I highly highly recommend this one

So I’m working on building my version of the non AU JCU, so here’s RANDOM ASSORTED HEADCANONS G O:

• JJ is the handyman of the house. He knows more about technology than any of the others, mostly because while they all went off do to their jobs, (or in Marvin’s case, secluding himself in his room for weeks at a time), JJ was teaching himself mechanical engineering.

It started as just a way for him to take a burden off of his brothers, to learn how modern technology works so he didn’t have to inconvience them about it. However, he fell in love with the intricacies of modern machines. The septics save a l o t of money on electricians and mechanics now.

• Jackie’s “awesome superhero vehicle”™️ is a broken down sports motorcycle that Chase bought at a garage sale on a whim for way less money than would be expected of a bike that size, only to realize when he got the thing home that it hadn’t been ridden in 20 years and also didn’t turn on.

• With the help of JJ, google and some magical intervention, the brothers managed to get it into working order and actually made it a pretty impressive vehicle. It is also Jackie’s baby. He named it Gene.

Mess with Gene at your own peril.

• Though Jackie is the face of Jackieboy Man, he does all of the rescuing and dangerous stunts and bad guy rangling, the success of Jackieboy Man can be attributed to all of his brothers. Jackie is a very physically fit person, but he’s just a person, no magic or powers of any kind.

He gets his edge from his brothers. Marvin enchanted his mask to give him infrared and night vision options, as well as extremely enhanced vision and a zoom feature. JJ’s built him all sorts of things, from a gps for his bike to other handy gadgets like glass cutters, magnetic grappling hooks, smoke bombs, the works.

Schneep’s the only reason Jackie’s not dead fifteen times over. He’s someone with some sense to talk to. He holds down the fort, keeps the house and his more eccentric brothers from tearing themselves and each other apart.

Chase is his workout buddy, constant moral support and confidant, as well as his man on the ground. Chase knows e v e r y b o d y, and if you need information, Chase almost always “knows a guy who’s wife was friends with this other dude who could probably help you out” Jackie’s brothers are what enables him to do what he does and he never lets them forget it.

• JJ’s magic is much subtler than Marvin’s. While Marvin’s magic is very volatile and dangerous, with his affinity for pyromancy and his endless array of potions and charms and deadly curses, JJ’s magic is much more passive, yet still very potent.

JJ is able to see straight through a demon’s disguise. If someone is possessed, JJ will know it immediately. He can see the true faces of demons through any cloaking magic or human meat sheild they may be using to hide their true forms. Not only that, but he is very privy to the energy certain people give off. He doesn’t even have to see the demon to know they’re there, he can sense the change in the energy around him.

Bundle that with his ability to jump through alternate dimensions and even time without using a spell, and Jameson is not somebody you want to mess with.

• The only person in the house that knows more about demons and demon possession than Marvin is Schneep. After his time with Anti, Schneep became nigh obsessed with learning everything he could about demons to better protect himself and his brothers. He’s got four separate anti-possession tattoos, an entire linen closet full of blessed silver weapons, dark magic repelling talismans, syringes full of holy water, and several rolls of exorcism rites in seven different languages.

His in house clinic (or the old workout room he turned into an in house clinic, if you want to be more specific) is so intensely warded against dark magic that Marvin gets magic migraines from being in it for too long. Overkill? Sure. Does it work? Yep. It’s the only room in the house that’s 1000% Anti proof.

he’s not sure if they’re a good thing or a bad thing

like, sure he likes that he can help the elders carry stuff

you know, like their animals when they’ve broken a leg

or moving their houses to more convenient places

the whole village loves him bc they literally saw him grow up as a kid

he turned out so well for someone without a father

don’t be fooled—he can literally physically crush you like a grape, but he’s literally the sweetest boy

anyways

he’s been living normally

despite the whole ability to rip off a 100 year old tree

and lift up a wall

or a house

or a 200 pound horse

his life has been fairly normal up until the incident

one day, when Hoseok was about 16 years old

a couple of kids were stuck underneath a rock

okay, an understatement

it was a huge ass boulder

anyways

these kids were stuck underneath and Hoseok lifted it to let the kids out

since that day, the elders called him Wonho

meaning a brave lion, the protector of the village

since that day, he’s been doing around helping others a bit more

he started putting himself out there to help people

it was small but these tasks got gradually bigger

it started from saving kids

to fighting against monsters

to saving the entire universe (but that’s another story)

next thing he knew the entire village was calling him a hero

there were statues made of his figure

his face was slapped on e v e r y t h i n g

the gods made a star alignment for his stature

he became one of the most famous faces

some just like to call him a Greek god that fell from the heavens

he still blushes every time someone calls him that

the ladies swoon the hardest when he’s on his Pegasus high in the sky

and the light shines oh so perfectly to emphasize his perfect, chiseled face

geez this man is very attractive and he doesn’t even know it

moving on

it’s important to remember that he did not get to this position alone

he was able to train with/under Hyunwoo

Wonho wanted to understand how he can be a better hero

to protect the ones he loves

and those in the community

he is such a good boy, I want to cry

anyways

he heard about how Hyunwoo trains heroes the best so he made his way over and

here he is

even after completing his training, he continues to work on himself

so if he can’t sleep or when people don’t need help

he would be in the gymnasium to work out

or he’d be doing practice training in an abandoned field that Hyunwoo had set up

as he got older, all he really does is help people and train to be better at what he’s doing

since he’s been helping out, the chaos has decreased significantly and he finds himself wandering elsewhere for adventure

this is how he meets you

I mean, you wouldn’t say you were in danger

but also, you were in the woods and you didn’t know this one all that well

and you may or may not have ended up messing with this lake monster that you def shouldn’t have been messing with

so there you are

in the middle of a lake

being held hostage by some

ugly troll ass, centaur thing

(tbh, you couldn’t really tell what he was, a river guardian???)

I literally mean held btw

you were literally in this creep’s hand bc he’s the size of a giant

so Wonho was walking around the forest with Pegasus, trying to find a new place and see if anyone needed his help

and very faintly he hears something from the distance

“if you don’t put me down, I swear to cut off your balls and rip off your—”

oo he didn’t wanna hear that

but he still rushes towards it

that’s when he spots you in this monster’s hand, struggling to get out

he slowly approaches you two

Wonho: “uh, excuse me? sir? could you, um, let them go?”

you speak up first, without taking two glances at him

You: “keep moving junior, I can handle this—have a nice day”

you flash him a sarcastic smile, hoping he’ll move along with his day

but he doesn’t

instead his shoulders kind of drop for a second, slightly disheartened, but only for a second

because he stands up straighter and pulls out his sword

Wonho: “you might be too close to his situation—I’m sorry to do this without your consent, but I have to do my job”

before anyone can say anything else, Wonho dives in and does what he does best

he fights off the bad guy

next thing you knew, you fell into the water and it’s all a blur

you fished yourself out, trying to dry off

Wonho managed to punch the living daylights out of the river guardian so he was just passed out and drowning in the river

but who cares about him

after Wonho ensures he’s not dead, but unconscious

(and Pegasus does his little cheer for him)

he moves over to you

Wonho: “..... hey”

You: “hi”

Wonho: “are you okay?”

You: “after getting all the water out of my ears, I’ve decided that I’ve been better”

Wonho: “sorry… about that—it was kind of stupid, I should have thought that out better”

You: “you think?”

you eye him up and down as you try to dry off your shoes

You: “they give you a name with those rippling pectorals?”

Wonho flushes, laughing rather awkwardly

Wonho: “they call me Wonho, but you can just call me Hoseok…”

you look at him again

he turns into a deeper shade of red under your eyes

You: “I prefer Wonder Boy”

he lets out another small laugh

Wonho: “what’s—what’s your name?”

you give him yours, as you wring out the bottom of your shirt into the water

he repeats it, with a small smile on his face

Wonho: “soooo, how’d you get mixed up with the—”

you finish for him

You: “the pinhead with hooves?”

he lets a little laugh out

it’s kind of cute

You: “well, you know how men are, they think no means yes and get lost means take me, I’m yours”

you let out an airy laugh as Wonho stands there confused

You: “don’t worry about it, Wonder Boy, you’ll figure it out eventually”

you stand up, ignoring the water that continues to drip down

You: “well, Seok, thanks for the help, but I gotta bounce”

Wonho: “ah…”

he can’t really hide his disappointment: “where—where are you going?”

You: “oh, you know, here and there”

you flash a smile at him: “I’ll see you around”

Wonho: “how?”

You: “life has its ways… bye bye Wonder Boy”

you walk off and disappear into the woods

Wonho finds himself still looking off, even as your figure disappears

Pegasus huffs at him, almost mockingly at how mesmerized he is at your presence

he turns to Pegasus and points a finger at him, as if he’s scolding him

Wonho: “not a word”

he continues to go on and eventually stumbles into a little town

…. your little town :)

obviously he didn’t realize

until he saw you again about a week later

you were hanging around a fruit stand that belonged to your friend’s

you looked just as beautiful as he remembers

and less angry

Wonho: “hey” :)

You: “Wonder Boy, back to me so soon, miss me that much?”

Wonho: “yeah, I did”

you didn’t expect him to be so straightforward

You: “so, you’re just hanging around town?”

Wonho: “it’s kind of like that”

You: “I heard some hero killed the monstrous lion, I should’ve realized it was you Wonder Boy”

Wonho: “ahhh…”

he flushes once again, rubbing the back of his neck

Wonho: “I—I’m no hero”

You: “sure you are, just remember, you are in a new town, take a break while you can”

You: “I will warn you though, it’s hard to find pretty sights in this dump”

Wonho: “I don’t think it’ll be that hard…. not without a guide at least…”

you look at him with a raised eyebrow

Wonho: “tHAt’S iF yoU wANT…. yoU don’T hAVE TO….”

you let out a laugh as he continues to flush into a darker red

he’s a cute boy, might as well shoot your shot

you wave to your friend as a silent goodbye and slowly start to walk off

without looking behind you, you shout out

You: “you coming, Wonder Boy?”

Wonho snaps out of his daydream that’s right in front of him

Wonho: “yes ma’am”

and thus the start of a beautiful relationship

Disney Prince!Wonho is as wonderful as it sounds

he already adores the life out of you

and he basically worships the ground you walk on

(as if you were the one with Greek god genes)

you, on the other hand, think he’s like a little puppy

a puppy that can kill you with his strength

but a puppy

he loves praise

he needs attention

he loves affection

he’s basically a soft, gigantic puppy

this view kind of changed when you saw him in action

I mean you did see him in action that one time

but his life wasn’t really in danger

and lowkey he looks hot fighting

but like….

when he killed the Stymphalian Birds…

when he captured the cattle of Geryon….

I guess you kind of drew the line when you saw Cerberus on your front lawn

(he’s absolutely more adorable than people said, but it is still a three headed giant dog)

you were just concerned for him and the danger he was putting himself in

and Wonho kind of ate that shit up

but he did console you

he became a lot more careful to consider your feelings

that did mean more official training with Hyunwoo

but anything to make you happy

anyways

most of the time, he stays to help the village

the elderly and kiddos there have grown to love him

I mean what’s not to love but

anyways

sometimes he does have to travel a bit farther for the king or something

but he always brings back some type of souvenir for you

he loves to spoil you

when he went to the Amazon, you got the most gorgeous flowers

another time, he brought some golden apples for you

he says it’s to make up the time away from you

and your heart absolutely melted

his presence makes up for it

he’s great okay

anyways

so you know how Pegasus is like his sidekick?

you two bonded

he’s not sure how but

Wonho loves that you and Pegasus get along

but y’all bonded a bit too much

like you two won’t say anything but it’ll be on your faces when you’re judging him

moving on

you haven’t stopped calling him Wonder Boy

some days he prefers it

others, he prefers it when you call him Seok

so, affection

this man needs it

whenever he’s in the same space as you

he’s like touch

it’s not like you’re gonna reject it

even if you roll your eyes, you always run into his arms

when he gets back from his trips

he doesn’t let you go for days

**cue you two waddling around because he’s backhugging you**

humor—while most of yours is dry

he still laughs and goes with it

he tells jokes unknowingly

like some of the stuff he says is ridiculous

and you just burst out laughing

you two are just very attuned with one another

very harmonious

very cute

V; Shred my Broken Body from my Mind ( Bioshock AU )

No one questioned it when the fourteen year old girl disappeared from the streets. It was just a day ago she had ran away from home, after all - and lived in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods there was. Good riddance - some even claimed, as she had been known to be a thief, and her mother no longer had to deal with her so called “lies” about what her boyfriends did to her. No one would come looking for her - especially not when she was taken under the ocean.

Akane’s entry into rapture was not voluntary. She came in as a test subject, kept at Little Wonders in a cruel of experiment of genetically altering her to be the ultimate guardian of the little sisters. They freely spliced her genes, forcing her to growth faster than her body could ever handle. The skin in her legs broke, her hands grew bony fingers that twisted at painful angles, and her ribs began to tear out of her chest. A broken, painful body - but she also became as fast as ever with all the plasmids they forced her to use- giving her new body nearly unmatched levels of strength and agility.

She would have lost her mind if she thought of herself and her own fear in the lab. After the first two months of experiments, the once screaming, sobbing girl began to take the experimentation without any resistance. She began, instead, to think of the little sisters. She saw them begin to grow- conditioned and implanted with the ability to produce ADAM. Good behavior meant she could be let out of the lab to be with them, with the orphans that she would come to call her own family.

Little children did not care if she looked like a freak - they would thrive on the attention and company she had to give. Akane was a naturally nurturing figure, and perhaps the first true Big Sister figure among them. She could not remember the names of her old neighbors, but she never came to forget a face in that orphanage. It was all she could do to focus on their care; she couldn’t think of herself anymore.

They had begun the process of trying to push the limits of her DNA to its limits, giving her the shock and cyclone trap plasmids, when rapture began to fall. Before she’d be forgotten and discarded like a sick animal within that lab.

All right fellas... Time for some SCIENCE

I’ve been thinking about doing this for awhile and have finally decided to sit down and (likely badly) explain how that rocky alcohol from chapter 4 of the Firefly AU could work.

Now, bear with me because this will get long, but also keep in mind that brewing science, microbiology, ecology, climate science, chemistry, and physics are all not my field of expertise (hell I don’t even have a field of expertise, I’m just a humble lab technician with a biology degree) but I will do my best here.

Now then let’s get started with the basics.

Anaerobic Respiration through Ethanol Fermentation.

Fermentation reactions are used for making everything from biofuel, alcohol, and cheese, and are generally the less preferred pathway for making energy. They are typically defined as an ox/redox reaction that results in energy and a byproduct from breaking down sugars using enzymes. The one I’ll be looking at is one that produces ethanol specifically, and goes a little something like this:

C6H12O6 (sugar) --> 2C2H5OH (two ethanol) + 2CO2 (two carbon dioxide)

Now, compared to other energy producing cycles, this one sucks, and is only really used when other cycles are unavailable but sugars (glucose is preferred, but xylose, sucrose, cellulose, lipids, and starch all work too) are abundant. The byproducts of this reaction (the ethanol and carbon dioxide) are actually often toxic to whatever is using this process... which is why we use stills, centrifuges, genetic engineering, and bioreactors when we are trying to take advantage of the cycle.

Most organisms that undergo Ethanol Fermentation are microorganisms (yeasts and bacteria) but some genetically modified plants can undergo the process (and give us biofuel) and so can some fish (because reasons). For alcoholic beverage production, both yeast and bacteria are often used and each have their pros and cons.

The basic necessities for delicious alcohol production are an abundance of simple sugars (or at least an enzymatic way to break complex carbohydrates down), a good environment, and some specialized genes. Which means it’s time for some world building to create the best bioreactor.

Now, according to the description of the planet in chapter 4, most of the oxygen was found in deep valleys and ravines lining the planets surface with a toxic, unbreathable atmosphere above. The microorganisms responsible for fermentation lived underground and the drinkable alcohol came up from natural springs, and had a metallic and almost earthy taste. This could be possible if the atmosphere was made up of a mixture of air (oxygen and nitrogen), and let’s say methane, with some carbon dioxide, most of which would need to be in the cave systems (to keep it anaerobic). The atmosphere would more than likely have some extra stuff in very low concentrations, so let’s focus on these for now.

Based on density of gases, methane is less dense than air (let’s base the ratio of oxygen to nitrogen on our own planet just to make the planet mostly inhabitable) and would thus tend to be a little bit higher in this hypothetical planet’s atmosphere. If we say these planetary wide ravines and valleys are super deep and this planets atmosphere is a smaller size than ours, this would give us our toxic (at higher concentrations or where it displaces too much oxygen) and unbreathable atmosphere (where you would also not want to light a match). Arguably that might make landing a spacecraft a bit difficult since you’d have to be wary of accidentally exploding, but I did say it would be hard to get this liquor and exploding certainly makes things difficult.

Now that our atmosphere is vaguely established, the next step is sugar (which is always my favorite step). Sugar, specifically glucose makes life go around. Literally. Living things love breaking down sugar (since, you know, it is fuel), but they also love making sugar and use it for all sorts of things (at least they do on Earth). So let’s assume that what we got here is good enough for this hypothetical planet and assume that life there is also a series of proteins, DNA, carbohydrates, and lipids in various arrangements.

“Life finds a way” isn’t just a pretty phrase. It is highly accurate, and so it’d be no surprise to find a thriving ecosystem in say- an underground cave system. We have plenty of models here on Earth to choose from as well- but our main focus is finding stuff that can be broken down into sweet, sweet sugar.

Now on Earth, most of what we use for ethanol production is plant mass due to the high concentration of cellulose, maltose,and sucrose which are all found in plants. Now, finding a plant in a cave is... well kind of weird. Plants typically rely on photosynthesis for their sugar production, utilizing various pigments to convert sunlight and CO2 into glucose and O2- however life always finds a way.

And that is unfortunately often found through the form of parasitism.

It’s hard to imagine a plant being a parasite but we are, in fact, about to celebrate a holiday in which one is very prominently displayed so...(hooray for mistletoe). Parasitic plants tend to develop ways in order to feed off other plants, usually by siphoning nutrients straight from the roots of their victims. If there are plants able to thrive in the valleys of the planet, parasitic plants might be able to leech off their roots. It might be tough to get through all the stone between surface and cave, but there is also another way.

Decomposers and detritivores are often overlooked, but play a truly important role in breaking down and recycling organic matter. Often the role falls to things like fungi, bacteria, larvae, and worms, but there are some plants (such as some orchids) that fall (albeit loosely) into this category. The term is “myco-heterotrophy”, in which there is a plant+ fungus relationship that is not always mutually beneficial. Overall it’s a pretty cool set-up, but I won’t go into too many details because this would get 10x longer.

Between saprophytic plants and parasitism, plants have found ways to thrive without sunlight, and if we fill these cave systems with consumers (such as bugs and fish), saprophytes all vying for detritivore supremacy (yay poop-eating), decomposers like bacteria and yeast all hard at work cleaning up the aftermath... well that would vaguely take care of our food sources.

These microorganisms will, of course, need the appropriate genes to be able to break down less simple sugars (starch, lipids, cellulose) as well as ones that will let them turn that sugar into ethanol. Arguably this is the easiest part, as such genes are pretty common. What is a bit more tricky is finding genes that allow for tolerance. Alcohol tends to have a low pH, making things a bit more acidic, it also can act as it’s own inhibitor as well as being toxic in high concentrations. Inhibitors are things that can cause a process to stop- which is why having a high tolerance for both acidic environments and high concentrations of alcohol would be key.

Now having a steady flow of diluent (a solution that dilutes) would help with the accumulation of too much alcohol, which takes us finally to the good stuff. Alcohol is typically mostly water by volume (beer is a good 95% water), so a spring that is actually water (or in this planet’s case, fancy mineral water) washing that alcohol away into a spring would work just fine to keep concentrations from being too high.

Now, depending on how mobile or immobile the fermenting microorganisms are can affect the actual alcohol taste and production. This can take the form of natural aggregates (clumps) formed through flocculation (an actual brewers term, wow!) in which all the microorganisms sort of bunch up and then fall out of solution and become a sediment at the bottom of wherever they are. The second form is through something like a sponge, where bacteria or yeast can get trapped and the solution can still move through. The third form is just free-floating microorganisms.

If the microorganisms clump together, not all of the sugar will be converted into alcohol, but it will be less dry and strong as if they are all suspended. If the microorganisms are stuck in a bioreactor, they can produce way more alcohol. No matter which of the three, the end result would still probably be a very fancy mix of alcohol, mineral water (due to erosion and to fulfill the taste requirements in the chapter), and given the production of CO2, carbonic acid (carbonation).

Long story short, cave crawlies and weird stuff got broken down in a cave full of mostly CO2 and very fancy mineral water and turned into ethanol, where it sprung from the surface of a mostly inhospitable and slightly flammable planet in bubbly springs and then some truly adventurous people would try it and decide it was good enough to drink. Some time later, Guido Mista would try some and go, “yeah this is weird but not too bad,” and buy a bottle for the road.

James had been hallucinating before. When he’d been sick and the fever got too high, he sometimes saw things that wasn’t there. He had seen Steve a couple of times too, but no hallucination had ever been able to touch him. Feeling his father’s hand against his forehead made it all more possible that this actually was the real Steve Rogers. Real or not, James couldn’t help but smile. “It can be a bit stubborn sometimes, the fever.” It was a bit of a joke. If he didn’t joke about his own health, he would have died already.

Having just looked at Steve for a moment, the boy push himself up, arms shaking. Eventually he managed to sit up and then he leaned, or more like half-fell, forward, coming to rest against Steve himself. Yeah, definitely real. Solid. A heartbeat. “It’s really you,” he whispered and he could feel tears burning in his eyes. This was his real father. The real Steve Rogers, somehow alive and well. James wasn’t sure he’d want him, but right now he didn’t care. His dad was there and he was leaning against him and that was all that currently mattered.

Ten years ago, scientists discovered that, in mice, the hypothalamus was seemingly responsible for aging. After many experiments to determine that there really were age related hormones and genes locked away in this part of the brain, scientists were able to create something that could practically stop the continued aging and deterioration of the brain and body. It was supposed to improve the telltale signs of age and “reverse” the effects to keep the user looking younger and hotter despite how old they were. It came in the form of a shot that was administered directly into the hypothalamus during a surgery. They just needed to find those who were willing to be the first ones to acquire eternal youth. Despite not getting their new “miracle drug” approved by the government, people fled to them like crazy and before they knew it, the scientists had over two hundred test subjects.

But no one was ever able to predict the hell that was going to come next.

Within the next two weeks after surgery, everyone started getting sick. Each of the subjects were showing the same symptoms: a slowly approaching death via a total shutdown of the body. It turns out that drug they had administered was causing the hypothalamus to send out premature signals for cell death all throughout the body. The scientists scrambled to try and fix what they had done, but it was too late and every single patient was lost.

After their heartbeats went out was where it all started. Loved ones watched their newly deceased family and friends as their bodies were rapidly changing; their skin had become a pale gray, eyes wide and bloodshot with pupils that have clouded over. All of this happens within three minutes of death. That’s how long it took. One hundred and eighty seconds before people were set upon people, tearing, ripping, and devouring the flesh of anyone with a pulse. The drugs that had been put into these people mutated their DNA, causing a transmittable disease.

It wasn’t too long before things started to get chaotic as doctors and scientists from all over the world came together to start studying what had happened: holding subjects and trying to run as any tests as they could. The governments tried their damned hardest to keep everyone safe with quarantines and scheduled check ups, but what they didn’t know was that even though the new virus was transmittable through bodily fluids entering through eyes, mouth, nose and blood.

It wasn’t long until society seemed to crash and burned to the ground in the midst of an outbreak that was claiming almost everyone. Humanity had lost due to it’s own downfall. There was no more hope left in the world.

That is until small groups of people started banning together into things they’d soon call Pods. Three of these Pods grew bigger and bigger as more survivors started to flock to the promise of normality and survival. Pods whispered promises of a second chance at what used to be. But like all good things, that came to an end. Not only were they at war with the undead, they were at war with themselves. Supplies were limited, tensions were rising between leaders. Things turned sour very quickly and it became a bloodbath. What was left untouched by humanity was claimed back by Mother Nature and the moans and groans of the undead.

But that was six years ago.

People don’t travel together very often anymore and finding Pods bigger than two or three people is rare, but there are some small communities out there if you look hard enough. Many survivors have decided if you travel alone, it’s best to stay alone, because the zombies are out there. Their number is unknown, but it seems that they’ve been growing and learning. They’re getting smarter and faster and they’ve never been hungrier. If humanity wants to survive, it’s going to have to step up its game. Luckily for them, most of the living survivors have grown up in this new world and are prepared for anything. They may just have a chance.

I N F O R M A T I O N

This AU will be set within a three block area of a small housing district. Survivors that have come to gather themselves into a small community. Within this small community there are three jobs: Runners, Protectors and Insiders. Only two people are signed to one of these three groups as permanent statuses and they are the group’s overseers. Everyone else will be switching out through the three groups to keep a level of equality and to keep everyone from getting bored within their respective unit.

Runners are the hunting and gathering unit of the community. Each day, they leave the safety of the compound on foot, bike or by car with packs to be filled and weapons on hand. This is likely one of the most dangerous but necessary jobs in the entire community. Those who are apart of this group, be it permanently or only for the week, are expected to go out into the broken world in search for food, to check on traps, and gather supplies to bring back. They are separated into teams of four to six people and are each given a list of items to search for when they go out. They also are expected to return by sundown.

Protectors are the guards unit. They make sure that repairs are done to the walls and that the community is protected. Some units are split up inside of their ranks so that they can be put just inside the walls, right outside and on building duty to maximize protection and production as it is needed. They spend their days making sure nothing living or dead can sneak into the community. They are most often going to be the first ones stragglers will see when they come across the community.

Insiders are the inner workers of the community. They spend their time farming on what little land they have, preparing meals and homes, making sure that the sick and injured are tended to and that the inside of the community as a whole stays as healthy and as fed as they can keep them.

more rubber duck ‘verse

misc tidbits abt what i’ve dubbed the rubber duck ‘verse fic i won’t write bc i’m attached now.

under the cut bc it’s long.

max’s residual anger toward susan is complicated. she’s angry that her mother ever got together with someone like neil, that she spent yrs growing up in fear and that she has to bear the impact of that by proxy of susan’s decision to marry neil. but she also loves her siblings v much and she wouldn’t have them if susan didn’t get together with neil, and that gives her all kinds of weird feelings. acknowledges her mother was also a victim in the situation, isn’t rly angry at how it ended with neil but nonetheless wishes the rest of them could’ve left sooner— and left without the bloodshed —bc she defo believes neil deserved what he got, but she doesn’t believe susan or the rest of them deserved the fallout. she didn’t rly want to spent a decade without her mother and helping a v unprepared billy raise a child. :(

before neil’s slaying, at one point susan comes home whilst a babysitting billy’s stereo is blaring and she’s like?? ‘the heck?? ur gonna make the bby cry,’ >:( and billy’s all, ‘no, this is literally why it isn’t crying anymore,’ and shuts off the stereo to prove it. sure enough, ducky wakes up and promptly starts bawling. susan is speechless, totally mystified.

even long after neil’s slaying, when ducky’s living with her siblings in cali, she cannot sleep unless she blasts a lil metal before bedtime. it puts her at ease.

ducky looks more like neil than susan. has neil’s hair, neil’s eyes. gets the tall genes from both of them tho. grows tall v early on tbh, shoots up like a fucking weed. ends up around billy’s height even going from puberty blockers to hrt. ducky does not have susan’s proportionately long legs, she’s got more of a long torso.

speaking of susan’s legs for days, uh. part of the emotional abuse on neil’s end was constantly degrading and nitpicking her appearance to the point that susan felt like a hideous blob. while she’s in prison she genuinely doesn’t notice when other inmates fight over her. even when one fight gets so bad the shivs come out and one lady gives the other a buck fifty to the face, susan is completely oblivious that she’s what’s being fought over.

ducky doesn’t just collect rubber ducks, she kinda waddles like a duck too, is the exact opposite of athletic. max tries to teach her to skateboard on numerous occasions, all of which end in scrapes and bruises, a grand total of three prompting visits to the emergency room. billy tries to play basketball with ducky and the poor thing can’t get the ball in the hoop even once. he also accidentally knocks her out when she fails to catch his pass and the ball hits her so hard in the face that when she drops, billy swears he sees the lil’ cartoon birds flying around her head.

ducky is v good at building things tho. has an affinity for super complicated lego projects. makes a hammerhead shark for billy’s 30th bday and it’s literally life-size.

max sticks around even after she’s eighteen both to help billy with ducky and bc, like. yk. it’s a modern au. equipped with the modern cost of living in cali. neil’s life insurance only went so far. max saves more staying at home, goes to community college and works in the cafeteria on campus. it takes her awhile to graduate bc she changes her major several times, but by the time susan’s out, she has her degree…and finds herself working a menial job in a skate shop anyway. yk how it goes tho, lotta competition out there and sadly community college degrees are often undervalued. max likes the skate shop tho. quickly rises from an associate to managerial position bc she’s v good at setting the customers up with the right boards.

susan’s return is p awkward for everyone, to say the least. at this point max has worked thru most of that residual, complex anger, and she and susan have written each other letters over the yrs where the reality of the household was addressed v frankly and she didn’t hold back expressing those feelings at all. nonetheless, some traces of anger still remain and while she’s glad to have her mom back, susan too is adjusting to life outside in an entirely different state and she’s not quite the person max remembers.

susan actually has a lot of trouble coping with freedom. even before being incarcerated, she lived according to neil’s rules and demands. being completely and utterly in charge of herself is a struggle to adapt to. sometimes she asks billy and max permission for small, odd things neither of them would ever care abt and it just. makes max. so, so sad.

billy is often ??? when it comes to susan. tbvh he’s grateful she killed neil and that fucks with his head a lil. bc neil was his parent and yes, he did love him. he hates that he loved him, but he did. and he wonders if that love is why he didn’t kill neil himself, bc he 100% thought abt it. he also has no idea if susan regrets it or not, has no clue whatever her various apologies over the yrs were for. killing neil, being promoted to parent against his will, or for errything that came even before the night of the slaying. susan turning away, shutting her eyes to his bruises.

also at first billy’s unsure if susan thinks she’s going to be head of household upon her return. since she’s like, the oldest and natal mother of max n ducky. this defo reveals itself to be an untrue concern in every way, quite the opposite. susan can barely comprehend freedom, let alone being in charge. some days susan dead ass asks billy permission to leave the dinner table even if she’s the one who cooked dinner.

ducky is also ??? when it comes to susan for v different reasons. she’s known the exact circumstances of susan’s incarceration since she was seven. before that, billy and max would be vague abt what she was locked up for and they never rly talked abt neil much beyond, ‘ur better off without him, he sucked big time.’

max is the one who eventually goes into graphic detail with ducky abt the whole thing bc she remembers that night and what happened before susan got home. how she had to step in bc she was fucking terrified neil was going to literally kill baby ducky. how she actually hit neil for the v first time even tho she’d wanted to many, many times. how she hit and kept hitting him, pummeling her fists against his body until he put ducky down. but once he did, that meant it was his turn. and ofc, neil hit much harder. max vividly recalls how badly her eye throbbed, swollen shut for two days. her nose wasn’t broken but it bled a whole lot, over her lips, into her mouth, down her chin, and the taste of blood lingered awfully.

ducky is naturally disturbed by the whole thing but her feelings toward susan aren’t as complicated as max’s or even billy’s for that matter. she doesn’t remember neil at all. and while she’s also written and received letters from susan, as well as the illicitly ordered rubber ducks, and she knows in a distant way susan is her mother, it doesn’t actually *feel* like she is. it feels more like susan is a kind of…special penpal, tbh. billy remains the person ducky goes to for parental guidance.

ducky still wants to get closer to susan tho. when the time comes for her to legally change her name, she asks susan to write a list of names she would’ve considered had she been afab, and goes on to choose one from the list.

even before she came out tho, ducky was p much called by her nickname at home anyway. both billy and max knew neil had picked her (dead)name out and neither of them rly wanted to acknowledge that. neither of them rly wanted to deal with the remaining traces of neil in their lives any more than they had to, any more than they already grappled with.

ducky has quite the degree of success getting susan into legos. this surprises both max and billy. but in prison susan would do crafts whenever available and she enjoyed stacking cups and stuff during rec time, so it’s not hard to translate these hobbies into legos. they build p neat things together sometimes— however, the hammerhead is all ducky, come billy’s birthday. she wanted to do that specially for her big bro, all by herself.

now, susan’s birthday present to billy is a big ass breakdown after midnight. lots of snotty sobbing. she hugs him so hard she’s hurting him a lil tbh and just apologizes profusely for errything and thanks him for taking care of her kids even tho he shouldn’t have had to. billy thanks susan too— it takes a min for her to figure out what for. bc they don’t talk abt that. no one’s mentioned that since she’s been out.

susan just nods a lil bit and lets go. they eat some more cake. life goes on. everything gets less awkward in time. susan stops asking for permission to move freely. ducky keeps filling up the shelves with rubber ducks of every variety, and dnd becomes another one of her interests in middle school, a hobby max nostalgically revisits with her. billy’s returned to surfing recreationally. swims a lot, finds it soothing and it helps keep him in shape. is a good low-impact workout to balance the weightlifting he still defo does, stereo blaring.

getting a job for convicted felons is difficult but eventually susan finds work on a commercial goat farm. she learns to herd goats and takes them out to areas where there are invasive grasses or dry brush particularly vulnerable to wildfire. the goats graze on the invasive vegetation and the dry brush, which helps prevent wildfires. no, i’m srs, this is an actual thing. she likes the goats a lot. they’re easier to talk to than ppl, sometimes.

Episode 47 - Icy Martian Crater, 2019 Box Office Movies & 2018 Year Review

So for this last episode of the year we have a special guest, Tahlya, from General Queeries, another amazing podcast from Thats Not Cannon productions. If you have the time check them out, they are cool and discuss some really important topics. Unfortunately the Professor was not able to join us, he was away on holidays, we wish him well and safe travels.

We also just wish to say here that we wish Stan Lee a happy Birthday and honour his memory and legacy.

First up we look at an article about a giant frozen lake on Mars that is 82 kilometers across. Buck wants to do snow angels on it with Voltron. We discuss who would be better to do that with Voltron (the origional – with the vehicles) or Optimus Prime. This leads to a discussion of the similarity between the Power Rangers and Voltron Lion force. Hey you know us we follow the train of thought and have a laugh.

We then discuss the upcoming movies of 2019, what we are looking for and which we are dreading. Surprisingly (NOT) no one is excited to see the new Aladdin movie with Will Smith. This is shaping up to be the biggest blunder ever from Disney. John Wick 3 is looking promising and exciting; let’s hope it continues to be an amazing franchise.

So we hope you all keep safe and have an amazing New Year, may the wind be at your back, the sun shine gently on your face and the road rise to meet your every step. Take care, look out for each other and drink lots of water. Nerds Rule, that is all.
