12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

Well, I already made a post a while back about how I headcanon that the highest that Axis can count to is 255, so let's get a bit more serious. I don't think Axis has a "true SOUL" in the sense that monsters and humans have SOULs. In Undertale, SOULs are treated as actual tangible objects that can be held and interacted with (like humans with their persistent SOULs and Boss Monster SOULs that can exist outside of death for a few moments and how Flowey/Asriel pulled the SOULs out of every monster in the Underground when he went god-mode). Axis, meanwhile, is made of metal and magic and computer code, which is detailed enough that it can emulate what it's like to have a SOUL very accurately, but there are limitations (like how he still has to follow his programming and kill Integrity no matter how reluctant he is). Like what Alphys established in Undertale, creating an artificial SOUL (with all the properties of a real SOUL) is impossible. That isn't to say that his life/experiences have less value because he doesn't have a "true SOUL," he still has thoughts and emotions and such, but if he was around a bunch of monsters when Flowey pulled their SOULs out of their body, he would've been stuck there. Conscious. Completely untouched.

(Though considering his speech if he's spared on Neutral, he'll get past it. It's just another thing that makes Axis, Axis.)

20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?

Kanako and Axis, easily. Have you seen the little drawing that Kanako has of Axis in her room? Surely they must've met before. I bet that Chujin showed Axis off to Kanako to be like "Hey, check out this cool robot that your dad made." and she was like "Did you make a brother for me?!" And Chujin was trying to politely correct her by saying that "Axis is not the same as a child, he's my robot that I made to protect you, yadda yadda" but it's too late now, Chujin. She already has it in mind that Axis is her new sibling. She is already figuring out where to put stickers on his chassis. Axis loved the attention from Kanako as well, there's only one person out there who could "CAPTURE MY LIKENESS SO PERFECTLY."

... After Axis killed Integrity, Chujin cooked up a lie for Kanako about how Axis had to go to the Steamworks to be a guard robot there, since he was frightened of the idea of Axis's code going buggy and him attacking Kanako. "Oh, but don't worry, we can still visit him. Ah, when? Maybe next month, he's very busy." And on Axis's side, most of his memories of his domestic life with Chujin/the Snowdin Incident were sealed so there wouldn't be any risk of him spilling any potentially incriminating information. This included his interactions with Kanako. Then he was shipped off to the Steamworks under the pretense of "Whoops, accidentally stumbled across some of my robotics work that I had taken home and left in a corner of my house when I was still employed here. Here, take him. He's functional."

Can't help but imagine that in the Lucky Clover AU, if Frisk were to manage to sneak away and end up befriending Undyne and the skelebros whilst everyone in the Dunes is probably having a panic attack (maybe Flowey caused a distraction or something, like some scaffolding collapsing causing everyone to focus on figuring out how that happened, giving Frisk the ability to sneak away), by the time Martlet finds them they've already managed to make the Underground a bit safer for at least themself.

Doesn't stop them from being grounded though-

That's exactly the plot set up I had in mind for this AU!

Even though Frisk is under very strict rules by Clover to not leave the Dunes without them, Frisk is constantly wandering off (perhaps influenced by a certain someone...) and exploring the other parts of the Underground. This is how Frisk eventually meets Papyrus, Sans, Undyne, Alphys, and others! And yes, Frisk is always grounded by Clover once they're eventually found and brought home. Doesn't stop them from sneaking out again, though. Clover is getting a taste of their own medicine trying to control this kid LOL.

Oh hey you mentioned uty! Have you played it yet or watched a playthrough?

HIYA! I have played it!!! (There’s still a few things I haven’t seen yet though!)

UTY spoilers under cut:

I finished up playing the pacifist route… AND OW MY FUCKING HEART. I sobbed like a BABY. A whole ass baby. Like to the point where I was gasping for breath and couldn’t breathe, and most DEFINITELY could not continue to read my lines out loud. Like, I was legitimately rocking back and forth and dropped my laptop. I’ve NEVER cried over media like that before.

I played it on stream and someone commented that they didn’t think people actually cried over uty like that…

(I don’t normally cry. Maybe a single tear or two that never falls if something’s particularly sad in a book. …But child death is something that really, really fucks me up.)

And FUDGING NEUTRAL! A friend streamed a playthrough of neutral for me and HOLY SHIT I COULD NOT C O P E. it really hecking hammered into me just how messed up this all was. And I had thought I was an expert at saying how messed up what the fallen children had gone through was by this point!

At this point I was getting desperate. I think, that if another friend hadn’t decided to stream the justice route, I may have actually played it myself. Even though I cried when I accidentally shot a monster in pacifist (and they were okay). I was just desperate to find SOME ending for Clover that ended with them alive. A justice ending couldn’t be HAPPY by definition, but I just needed them to live.

At this point I’ve realized my hopes are dashed for that. I’m not quite done yet, but I know that this will end the exact same way as the other two… somehow. …I mean, Flowey can just reset, can’t he?

My friend still hasn’t finished the justice route for me, (so, anyone reading, please be careful with spoilers in reblogs/replies!)

Clover and Chara, Anna and jade, jade and Toriel.

Chara has some respect towards Clover for sacrificing themselves similarly to how they did. They also are quite happy that they weren't the only human to find a family while in the Underground.

At first, they were pretty jealous that Asriel was more Clover's best friend now rather than theirs, but eventually they accept it, and admit that while they and Asriel had been close when young, it was mainly due to Asriel not having many friends, and that they weren't really that good of a friend to him.

Anna and Jade get along pretty well, though Jade does feel like it was pretty dumb that the only reason Anna got caught finally was due to her own clumsiness. Jade appreciates that Anna is willing to let her take things at her own pace, and doesn't try and push her to be friends with every monster like most everyone else. Anna does encourage Jade to try interacting with the kids at the school once she starts teaching there herself, and is a big reason that Jade finally starts being more friendly with monsters over time.

Jade really sees Toriel as the only monster she can trust for a while. She appreciates Toriel giving her and her brother a place to call home both before and after the barrier was broken. In all honesty, she was quite content staying with Toriel in the Ruins, but Jax snuck out, and she insisted that she had to find him and bring him back. It's part of why the whole incident with Kanako even happened, as Jade wouldn't have let him even get near her had she been able to.

martlet first <3

martlet is clovers adopted parent :) she kinda just found them wandering and it was like “oh no!! where are your parents ?? :(“ and clover had lost their parents and so martlet took them in to help them find them! and so the search extended from a couple days to weeks to months to years and uhhh yeah they never found clovers parents.

(btw since it is kinda relevant starlo takes chujins place but him and martlet are just good pals who raised clover with her. ended up moving in together for convenience. starlo is dead whoopsies!)

so starlo is dead or something and martlets upset bc her good buddy just died. so she’s trying to figure things out in a not so great manner (i.e. trying to build something to extract human souls (alphys lookin ass) bc she believes that humans are evil. it’s like if zenith beliefs came early) and testing it with the previous fallen human souls but it keeps on failing!! but she also doesn’t have a viable test subject :).

so clover (still with a strong sense of justice despite not having a human soul or anything) offers themself up to test bc they believe it’s what’s right. martlet. isn’t sure what to do about that. because this thing is supposed to be dangerous…… but it’s been failing thus far, right?? so it won’t kill them and it’ll satisfy their whole need for needing to help right!! :D

….. it shatters their soul really really badly and they fall down.

so that’s a panic. and then uhhhh a call from the royal scientist for the fallen down and so clover gets sent off and yeah.

meanwhile, martlet isn’t sure how to deal with all that. she feels like she failed clover for not helping them out more and everything sucks honestly :( but her and chujin are buds and chujin likes to build even tho he’s a bit wack so she hangs out with him to try and get better (coping mechanism except she isn’t building things to kill now) ! and once kanako (human, kindness) comes around, hey…. maybe she can find clover and give them their soul to save them?? after all that’s a human and humans are evil right????? right??????? so that’s fantastic.

she’s still herself of course. but she’s really trying her best…. she ends up really not wanting to kill kanako but she thinks abt clover and its. she has to make a really tough choice. and it’s so so upsetting. she’s so incredibly torn but eventually it hits some point of no return and she attacks kanako :) in the no mercy route she just kinda gets really pissed after chujin is killed and she attacks ofc

ceroba is in snowdin because she’s a royal guard and that’s where her station is :) she doesn’t manage puzzles or anything but she does guard areas in snowdin! she’s a lot more firm on the rules for the royal guard handbook but she gets mighty confused when kanako isn’t really…. fighting (at all or not at the strength she expected, either or) and she’s like ‘yk what. whatever. come on i’m taking you to the queen or something we can figure out what to do from there.’ bc she knows they’re taking human souls and stuff but all she’s heard is that humans are violent and evil (which is emphasized with integritys swap having been attacking monsters n stuff) and kanako isn’t like that?? so she isn’t really sure what to do.

gradually as time goes on she gets a more friendly with kanako (prolly says something about how she’s always wanted a daughter or something and how kanako especially makes her feel that way :))))))) and is like ‘well. maybe taking you to the queen isn’t the best idea…. but i mean she’s nice so like whatever’ and wants to get kanako home !

as for that one part where martlet and clover get separated bc martlet flies off when the boat crashes, ceroba just does one of those fox jumps that foxes do LMAO. i hope you know what im talking about because i think thats such a funny idea

her and chujin aren’t married or dating or anything but they DO know eachother. and the MINUTE he pops up with his whole bit she’s like “oh my god :|.” or something. she doesn’t get thrown in the jail but she’s kind of confined to the saloon bc they’re keeping an eye on her so she can’t ruin the fun or anything :P

in pacifist when the tapes stuff is found and stuff she’s AFTUALLY horrified. her and starlo were childhood friends and all but she hadn’t heard from him for a while especially after moving away from the dunes due to her position so to find out everything she did?? that’s horrifying. and it really makes her worried about kanako (a mothers love through every universe, you know?) because what would martlet plan on doing? and so now her mind is set on ‘i have to protect kanako no matter what’ and so they go and uhh tries to reason with her but martlet knocks her out cold. y’ouch. also she’s much quicker to come to terms with kanako giving up her soul than martlet is in true pacifist. this is getting long i’ll have to talk abt all the endings in a different post

now in the no mercy route…… she is PISSED. and she str8 up breaks into the lab (which is easy because evacuation and all but she does have to get past undyne or something, which is easy! because she’s super strong as we already know) and gets the determination. she goes to the rooftop and uhhh monologues at kanako. i imagine in her dialogue in the fight (after injecting herself) she brings up something about all the sudden awareness and how she KNOWS kanako could’ve been better. how she could’ve been kind. but wasn’t. and she knows she’s doomed to die but she’ll try to bring her down with her in hopes of making her change her mind. but she’s incredibly focused on taking her down but she does wind up dying (instead of being scared and stuff like martlet, she accepts it and tells kanako something like ‘next time you see me, you better hope i don’t remember. if i do, i’ll never stop trying to kill you.’ or something)

aughhh i need to flesh out this au some more but this is what i got so far i think :) some stuff might change but ykkk!!

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

I headcanon that there's no difference between Pepsi and Coke and everyone who insists there is is just making it up.

Joke aside, I headcanon that Kanako did discriminate against humans, even before Integrity. Since Chujin doesn't like humans at all, and humans are bound to come up in conversation at some point, I imagine that Chujin used any line of questioning about humans to be like "Humans are dangerous and incapable of decency and you should never ever trust them, they're all evil. Blah blah blah." And Kanako, being a young and impressionable child who has no reason to doubt her parents was like "Okay Daddy, whatever you say!" And then the Snowdin Incident happens and whatever goes on between her and Integrity helps to solidify those views.

(Yes, I know the Wild East is a thing and Kanako loves to play over there and watch movies with Starlo, but seeing humans on TV doesn't mean that it's impossible for her to not hold any sort of negative views on them. Those humans are characters on a screen, not actual people you meet. Kinda like how if you see a werewolf in a movie, you can think that they're super cool. But if you were suddenly put in a room with a werewolf, you'd likely be terrified. Also Chujin (and Ceroba, who would just roll with whatever Chujin says) have far more influence in her life and upbringing than Starlo does.)

The good news is that since she is still so young and impressionable, there's still a chance for her to grow past it if she meets some kind-hearted human(s) and learns that humans are just as diverse as monsters in terms of personality and behaviors and life experience and such.

6. does your self insert have any pets?

hmmmm probably not? she'd definitely want one. and maybe she'd take care of some sort of stray near her house. but i dont think she'd have a pet at home specifically

15. how does your self insert play a role in the plot of the story? do they help directly defeat the villain, support the heroes, etc.?

honestly, maiz is a bit of a side-character in regards to uty. she can't be killed and has no true bearing on the plot. her life is almost completely ordinary... she just... delivers mail, most days. it's really more like events affect her, rather than her affecting events.

in the pacifist route, she and dalv get to finally bond outside of the ruins, as clover would push dalv out of his hidey hole. in the genocide route, if you spare dalv, she hears about the evacuation and rushes to find him, hugging him in a fit of tears, relieved that he survived. but if you kill him in no mercy, she finds his dust and grieves there.

her grief, mourning, passions-- they just don't really have an impact on clover or the main plot. that's something that can be changed in the future but as of now, i dont mind the way it is ^^

honestly the most i could imagine for her as a major role is some sort of secret boss fight depending on fun value or specific choices....
