i find interesting the way the weapon designs in the Unreal series advanced & changed overtime, both visually and mechanically. the way the designs changed completely between UT99 and UT2K4, the weapons cut from Unreal and the ones that didn't make it to UT99, the weapons added in 2K4, the stinger minigun in Unreal turning into a regular minigun in tournament, the rocket launcher mechanics in UT3, there's a lot to be said about it all - though it's been a little too long since i've played all the games to really remember and make points on it, maybe some day.
maybe as a challenge for myself i could try to remake the UT99 weapons in my own style, while trying to adhere to the source designs, maybe the Unreal (+ return to Na-pali) weapons after, if i'm up to it (and maybe the UT3 designs though i see less point in that).
(i'm not mentioning U2, UT4, & both UC games, because i haven't played them yet, and know next to nothing about them, sorry)

I don’t expect much from Epic, and I haven’t ever since Unreal Tournament 3 came out and was... the way it was... but waking up to the news that they’ve de-listed the entire series from Steam AND turned off the master server for every game without prior warning really sinks my opinion even further. Didn’t know it was possible but here we are.

i've not played an unreal game in a decent while, and i've not really participated in the community like at all, but for some reason i seem to have started thinking about it again... maybe i should replay the games, and maybe i could talk about it on tumblr more (i've already 2 posts in my drafts that i'm leaving for later because it's 2 hours past midnight.....)

I just remembered one of Strange Aeon's levels being like a moving train/carriage in the desert or something.
Or rather, what seems like a fortress on wheels in a large desert.

Seems like a cool idea that could be done in a new Doom or any game id could make in the future.
Specially because it's a different take on moving train levels due to the wider space.

Thinking about Unreal
Remember back when Epic Games did more than just work on Fortnite and make a shitty game launcher? I do.
Unreal Tournament 2003/2004 were games I was playing long before I had any right to. You can't legally acquire them anymore, unless buying a used copy from somebody. But we're in a time and place now, where a viable successor to Unreal ought to be coming around. The boomer shooter revival was awesome, and I hope there's still more of it to come.
And I'm not just talking about the tournament games, but the actual first game Unreal, deserves a successor.
*sigh*
03/04 veered into a weird aesthetic that hardly fits with its sequel or previous iteration, but I think it's my favorite. It's almost like the predecessor to Gears of War, a hint of 40k and other sci-fi concepts thrown together to create these awesome gladiators.

The Juggernauts were cool. They're all some kind of criminal, with the exception of Arclite. Genetically modified to be big, aggressive super soldiers. I think my favorite is Rylisa, based on her bio.

I'd like to think she doesn't get along with the rest of her team much.
Headcanon is after the tournament, these guys were either "liquefied" or repurposed, the more stable trustworthy maybe becoming privateers for the Liandri Corporation.

do you plan on covering the Unreal and Return to Na Pali campaign maps? or other UE1 games like Deus Ex?
also do you intend on covering maps for UT2004 mods like Killing Floor or Alien Swarm? or UT99 mods like Thievery?
Yes I do, Unless I mess with the schedule, Unreals campaign is scheduled to begin being posted in sequence in mid January 2024, and Na Pali is scheduled for mid July of the same year. As for other games like Deus Ex, I'm open to doing it, but don't be surprised if it ever happens though. As for Mods, it may take a bit more fenagling to get more complicated mods like Thievery, Killing floor, and Infiltration working, since they're more than just alternate game modes compared to Jailbreak, Monster Hunt, and Soccer Tournament. However, I am very likely to try doing shots of Killing Floor at some point, no ETAs though.
