The Christmas that could of been.
OTD in 1944, Becuna has a run in with IJN Yamato off the coast of Vietnam. Unfortunately, Yamato’s bearing differed from that of her destroyer screen and Becuna could not correct the angle for a shot. Yamato sailed off unscathed.

Priority Research 7 Predictions - Sakura Empire
It is time for one of the biggest factions in AL to get their PR prediction post. Last year, the Sakura Empire got Shimanto, a choice I was honestly disappointed with - not because of her design or gameplay in Azur Lane, but because Shimanto is an utterly unremarkable ship in World of Warships.
So, as usual, I will mention some of their most likely choices. None of these selected ships are guaranteed to make it into PR7 - we may not get a Sakura girl this time, but all of them are ships I would be interested in seeing. Hell, some of them I've turned into OCs of mine lol ALSO, I mentioned some of these candidates last year. Because I just really want them in AL damnit.
Bungo
Bungo is funny.
She's an upscaled Amagi hull with 457mm guns (no clue why they aren't 460mm). Her gimmick is accuracy. Yamato is already well known as a very accurate battleship, but Bungo takes it to a whole another level. She's so accurate that, assuming you aim perfectly; you will most likely encounter aiming bugs that no other ship really experiences (because WoWs is built on a mountain of spaghetti code)
As a special consumable, Bungo gets access to a 'High-Precision Spotter Plane' that further reduces her dispersion by -20% for a minute and five seconds. You can get two whole salvos out very comfortably, due to her 26.4s reload.
Honestly, if you miss with Bungo, it is your fault. Easy DR material.
Adatara
Adatara is the predecessor of Bungo in the tech tree. She's Tier 9, her spotter plane reduces her dispersion by -10% instead of -20%, and has one less turret. Her reload is longer, too, at 30s.
If Bungo is DR material, Adatara is PR material.
Tsurugi
As much as I love Tsurugi, I see a lot of people compare her to Georgia, which is just innacurate.
Both ships enjoy 3 double 457mm gun turrets with short reloads and remarkable accuracy, but Georgia has American Super-Heavy AP that does devastating damage, and Tsurugi's AP shells do a pitiful 13.5k damage - Georgia's AP shells do almost 18k damage each.
Also, Georgia has very fun secondary guns. And can tank damage, since she's an Iowa hull variation. And is superbly fast. Tsurugi has none of those things.
Tsurugi has 15km-range deep water torpedoes (that can only hit battleships and aircraft carriers), as well as a 'Torpedo Reload Booster' consumable that reduces the 150s reload down to just 10s. Also, while not enjoying Georgia's 46+ knots speed, Tsurugi can easily do almost 37 knots, which is faster than a lot of cruiser.
Sadly, Tsurugi also suffers from pathetically weak armor.
Tsurugi could be a very fun PR battlecruiser in AL, however.
Iwami
Iwami is a variation of the Izumo design. Much like Izumo, she has fairly accurate 410mm main guns. Much unlike Izumo, her overall gun layout makes sense, with 2 frontal dual turrets and two back dual turrets, much like a Nagato.
Iwami has two gimmicks of particular interest: Two sets of torpedoes, one per side, which are taken straight out of Shimakaze (4 20km torpedos per launcher) that also deal devastating damage, but can be seen from orbit (relatively speaking - their detectability range is 2.5km. Normal hydroacoustic search detects torpedoes at 3.5km)
The second gimmick of Iwami is access to a surprisingly strong secondary gun array.
Iwami could be a PR battleship with a support role.
Shikishima
As I said last year, Shikishima is "The USS Georgia of the Yamato-class."
Her main armament consists of 3 dual 510mm turrets boasting of improved accuracy compared to the Yamato-class, as well as a 27s reload. She shares all the flaws of Yamato and Musashi, mainly having incredibly weak armor and a glacial turret traverse of a whole entire minute to turn 180º, but she's a fun ship that can do insane damage. She relies a lot on sheer overmatch, being the second ship to have 510mm guns - Satsuma is basically an upscaled Shikishima, and HMS Incomparable "only" has 508mm guns.
Also, for some reason, Shikishima also has a very nice secondary gun layout, guns that also have improved accuracy and reload times; meaning you can run a full secondary gun Shikishima build without losing much main gun accuracy.
Due to being a Yamato hull, she'd be DR.
Yoshino
Hey, wouldn't it be funny if Azuma had even more torpedoes than Shimakaze?
Yoshino is just that, a bigger Azuma with a total of 16 torpedoes. She gets a choice between the 'suicide' 12km torpedoes of Shimakaze, which deal almost 27k damage each; or the same torpedoes that Iwami has, 20km range.
She's different enough from Azuma to be somewhat likely, but she's also not really that much different than Azuma. She'd be DR, for sure.
Hayate
A unique (for Japan's standards) destroyer that has both good guns and good torpedoes. They normally excell only at guns (Kitakaze) or only at torpedoes (Shimakaze) - Hayate is good with both.
Past me summarized her pretty well. She's a decent mix between Shimakaze and Harugumo - Harugumo being Kitakaze's bigger sister.
PR rarity for sure.
Yamagiri
Ok, but what if you wanted a pretty good mix of Shimakaze and Harugumo, instead of a decent mix?
Yamagiri is an upscaled Hayate that mixes the two lines of destroyers. She gets access to the same amount of torpedoes Shimakaze has, while having access to some formidable main gun armament as well.
While Hayate is a PR, Yamagiri would be a DR. However, there's one main issue with Yamagiri as a PR7 choice:
She's a Superdestroyer. A Tier 11. We have never gotten a Tier 11 PR ship, and there are much more fun and bombastic options for the first Tier 11 in Azur Lane's Priority Research.

U.S.S Montril NCC-97387 was a unquie protoype constructed from the Engineering hull of the USS Wisconsion following its loss in the 2409 raid on the Utopia Planetia Yards, testing an Aleternate arrangement for what would become the Yamato class Dreadnought Cruiser. Whilst not chosen to be the class template, the ship would go on to make her own legacy when Admiral Hazel Rendevez chose the prototype as her personal flagship. Serving as the 15th Fleet's flagship, the ship would play pivotal roles in may of the defining events of the 2410s.
I'm thinking about doing detailed lore posts for all my Sto ships. This is a small taste of what they might be like (if far shorter). Any interest?

I have been playing Azur lane for a while and have been noticing a sad trend in the new ships. In recent events they have been creeping more and more into really obscure ships that really didn’t do anything major irl, while they are ignoring extremely interesting and important ships from WWII.
I have, for a long while now, been hoping that they add some of the members of Taffy 3. Most specifically USS Johnston and USS Samuel B. Roberts.
Johnston in port
USS Johnston, when IJN Yamato and her escorts first engaged the small task force, provided smoke cover for the retreating CVEs. The ship broke off from the force much earlier than any others, and faced the enemy head on, forcing one heavy crusader, IJN Kunamo, to be scuttled later on. Johnston would score a couple hundred hits with her 5 inch guns, before being sunk, (reported as a cruiser by the Japanese). She would receive 6 battle stars, her captain was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, and Yukikaze saluted her as she sunk.
Samuel B. Roberts under way
Later in the engagement, the escort destroyer USS Samuel B. Roberts would earn herself one of the coolest titles ever. Once the carriers were somewhat safe in a rain squall, the rest of the destroyer escort was ordered to commence torpedo runs on their pursuers. The Roberts would assist in this task, and would end up expending the entirety of her ammunition before finally being sunk. She would receive a single battle star, with one of her gunners earning a posthumous silver star. She would also earn the title of “The escort destroyer that fought like a battleship” for her actions.
Both of these ships are extremely cool, and they prevented the complete destruction of American landing points on Samar. But they are completely ignored for ships as far back as WWI.

Note
I feel like USS Samuel B Roberts, USS Johnston, USS Hoel, and the other destroyers of Taffy 3 also had plot armor. Even if some of them eventually sank, they were fighting so far out of their weight class that Yamato outweighed them all by herself. And they still made the Japanese Center Force turn and run.
Naw that wasn’t plot armor.
That was sheer bravery and balls of BRASS.

Day Three-Yamigiri
The Yamagiri Maru was a 133m (437ft) passenger/cargo carrier launched in 1939 and converted to a military transport ship in 1941. This ship was damaged by two torpedoes in 1943 from the submarine USS Drum and repaired in Rabaul before sailing to Truk and then sank by dive bombers from the Yorktown and Bunker Hill.
Sitting at 36m (120ft) with its shallowest parts around 18m (60ft), this Yamagiri Maru’s most interesting feature is in hold #5. On their way to be delivered to the battleships Yamato and Mushashi were Armor piercing shells 45cm (18in) long, weighing over 3000 pounds each, that could be hurled 38 kilometers. These gun rounds were for the largest guns ever made for a battleship, the largest American battleships had only 40cm (16in) guns.
Being a lover of macro ocean life, I couldn’t help but be amazed at all the little creatures that could be found making their homes in these sunken ships. One second the dive guide would be pointing out 45cm ammunition and the next moment I would find a nudibranch crawling its way up across the bow of the WWII wreck. Anemones seem to have happily made their homes all over the wrecks and their respective anemone fish eagerly come up to look at you, looking back at them.
She went under taking 11 crew members down with her. From ARGunners.com
We signed up for this trip with James who I found through his Youtube channel Divers Ready. He dove with us today and also took this photograph of me.
Alichi-
Towards the end of this dive, we suddenly seemed to be enveloped by hundreds of brilliant blue jellyfish.
Fujikawa-
The Fujikawa Maru is one of the lagoon’s most famous wrecks. Covered in lush coral this ship was built in 1938 as a passenger cargo ship that carried raw silk and cotton between South America and India. Commissioned into the Japanese Navy in 1940 and outfitted with 15cm (6in) guns on her bow and stern, she was tasked for transportation, including the delivery of aircraft and aircraft parts to Pacific islands.
Carrying planes to Truk, the Fujikwawa Maru offloaded thirty B5N2 bombers (Jill planes) which lay in pieces on Eten Airfield (Eten Island) during Operation Hailstone. They were unable to help defend against the Americans. Bombed by air attacks on February 17th, the Fujikawa was still afloat on the 18th. Essex dive bombers hit the port quarter with a 1000 pound bomb and finally two Monterey airplanes attacked and witnessed a huge explosion and the ship in flames.
Still aboard the ship during the attack were three Zero fighter planes in cargo hold #2 and a fourth plane that is possibly an A6M “Claude” fighter, the only known surviving plane of that type. The Fujikawa sits upright and we followed our dive guide from the surface down into cargo hold #2 to see these mostly intact planes. In the clear water the planes look as if a pilot could sit in them today and fly right out of the ocean and back into the air. We also saw spare wings and fuel drums.
Often boasted as one of the most beautiful wrecks in the lagoon, this beautiful ship is covered in pink and white soft coral, blue sponges and every inch of it is covered in different colored marine life. On the deck a plaque dedicates the preservation and respect of the Fujikawa and other wrecks in the lagoon. Collections of artifacts from the inside are gathered on different parts of the ship including china with Japanese brandings. Schools of tuna and smaller fish circle the wreck, and a large barracuda seemed to be standing guard over the bow gun.
Often considered one of the best wreck penetrations, much of the superstructure of the Fujikawa Maru has collapsed recently, making it very difficult and potentially dangerous to enter the engine room due to its instability. From ARGunners.com
I think it looks like I have frog legs in this picture! The second is of the bow gun.

Priority Research 6 Predictions - Sakura Empire
I would love a Sakura Empire PR for PR6 but they don't have that many options :/ However, I am going to present the most likely to y'all. This is the last PR6 prediction post, to check the others you can see the #priority research tag because I posted them all with that tag.
As always: Do not treat any of the following choices as guaranteed. I would not bet money on any of these specific ones getting added as part of PR6 this year, it's just the ships I see as Very LikelyTM.
Hizen
Honestly, the most unlikely. She's a bigger Izumo, and in terms of gameplay she is just a bigger Izumo and nothing else.
Her reload time is atrocious at 38 seconds for kind of good 410mm guns, but Izumo is free and Hizen costed money.
And you can't even get Hizen anymore.
Iwami
A strange battlecruiser, Iwami may look a lot like Hizen and that's because they're based on the same pre-Yamato designs. However, Iwami has a total of 4 cannons less in exchange of slightly better accuracy and a reload that's 10 seconds faster than Hizen's.
She also has Shimakazo torpedoes - 2 launchers at the rear with 4 torps each, and they have 20km range with ludicrous damage. The problem is that it's the 20km Shima torpedoes, which can be outrun by some ships and can also be spotted from the Moon.
Iwami also has another gimmick: half-decent secondaries. Kii at Tier 8 has better secondaries, imho, but Iwami's can be fun.
She would be PR.
Daisen
I haven't read much on Daisen yet, but from her stats, she's a fast little battlecruiser with incredibly bad armor, mediocre secondaries, very good main guns and 8 torpedoes per side. Those torpedoes do 20k damage each and have a 10km range, meaning she's no joke.
I don't know if she is PR or DR material, but I think she fits as a PR. Besides, unlike Iwami, she's very different from Izumo; meaning she wouldn't step on Izumo that much - which is my main concern.
Shikishima
The USS Georgia of the Yamato-class, Shikishima is the same hull as Yamato with somewhat better secondaries and six 510mm guns instead of 9 460mm guns. She's more accurate and reloads faster than Yamato, meaning that sticking Isoroku Yamamoto on this baby is very fun due to his buffs.
However, unlike Georgia, she would be a DR. A very powerful DR that would 'powercreep' (if you believe that thing exists in AL) most other UR BBs until Yamato comes out.
I imagine Shikishima being the weird one of the Yamato family. She would be a stealthy assassin, who kills her enemies from within the shadows. Mainly because that's how she is in the Tegarrian Lore (@tegarrianlore) lol.
Yoshino
Honestly, Yoshino feels unlikely. She is, effectively, a bigger Azuma with 8 Shimakaze torpedoes per side. Her gimmick is that she has excellent 310mm HE shells but also has access to anti-camping 20km torpedoes.
However, if Yoshino gets added, she would be DR. Which makes me feel she's even more unlikely.
Shimanto
Takahashi
I group these 2 together as equally likely because they are the new additions to the Japanese tech tree - the Tier 8 and Tier 9 light cruisers - and both suck.
I enjoy the freemium Tokachi at Tier 7, as she's a Furutaka with 127mm guns and that HE spamming is fun, but these other cruisers with bigger 155mm guns simply aren't worth it.
However, we know their performance in WoWs doesn't mean shit for Azur Lane. The best example imho is FdG, who is just plain old bad in WoWs but is a murderhouse in AL. I believe they could be fun, little HE spammers in AL that have massive torpedo-buffing abilities, to both themselves and the whole fleet.
Hayate
A unique (for Japan's standards) destroyer that has both good guns and good torpedoes. They normally excell only at guns (Kitakaze) or only at torpedoes (Shimakaze) - Hayate is good with both.
However, in AL she could be the DR gunboat equivalent to Shimakaze's excellent torpedo perfomance. The Death by Thousand Cuts of AL.
BONUS - MOST UNLIKELY
Tokachi
As stated above, she is a Furutaka with destroyer guns. They reload incredibly slowly at 7 seconds between shots, but most of her turrets can spin 360º and do so incredibly quickly.
The problem is Tokachi is Tier 7. We have not gotten any Tier 7 or lower PR and I doubt Tokachi will be the first one.
Ashitaka
There is a saying within the WoWs community, "you can't say Ashitaka without saying shit".
She's bad. Attrociously bad. Absolute girlfailure.
A Tier 7 version of Amagi, she has worse guns, worse accuracy, worse shells, no armor, and worse health. With Kii being an option, and Amagi being researchable, there is genuinely no reason for Ashitaka to be in the game.

Talk to me or I will just flop down and fall asleep
fine
When the Yamato and Musashi were built, they caused a fishing net shortage because the nets were used as camouflage. There was also a third, the Shinano, but she was converted to an aircraft carrier and was the largest carrier until the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) was built in the 50s.
Or um how about
Koalas have fingerprints that are very similar to human fingerprints.
