Who was your first TOA muse? If you no longer have them, can you see yourself picking them up again? My first muse was Flayn and I don't see myself writing her again. I wrote a lot of stuff for her both here and the previous MFRP group I was in and I feel satisfied with that.

Do you believe you have a type of character you gravitate towards writing? (If you filled this out last year, has this changed in any way?) My muse type is still the same I think lol! I gravitate a lot towards stoic women- Something about these ladies having a lot of responsibility on their shoulders and, for some of them, a colder exterior but a kind heart.

Do you have characters or types of characters you don’t think you can handle writing, but wish you could? Male muses never stick for me in general. Aside from that, I'm not really sure, but I guess maybe characters who's designs are neat but I don't have their lore as well-grasped.

What kind of scenes, situations etc do you believe you enjoy writing the most? (If you filled this out last year, has this changed in any way?) I enjoy a mix of things! I like fluff as much as I like angst stuff- It depends on the muses and context. I like steering my muses towards certain arcs and I like them developing friendships as well as finding themselves in difficult scenarios.

Do you have any scenario in mind for your muse(s) that gets you thinking “man I hope I get to write this one day”? I'd like to write more AU's! The 3H timeskip AU and Fell Xenologue AU's are two off the top of my head. Otherwise, I hope to explore more of Edelgard opening up about herself and Celine developing more knowledge on surrounding lands.

Favorite TOA-related memories? I enjoyed Fantom Loews and KKE a lot as two lore events that come to mind! I also really have liked every Ethereal Ball interaction my muses have had. The more casual setting allows them to meet both old and new muses.

Present or past tense? I switch around but I've written more in past tense overall.

Normal size text, small text, no preference? I default to small text and bolded dialogue but I change it around sometimes and don't have a preference for other people when writing with me!

Sua Hanunuma

Sua has light brown curly hair that's slightly longer than her shoulders.

Also, she has dimples on both her cheeks.

She wears little to no make-up.

After being bullied in school, Sua took classes in self-defense.

Her fear of loud noises and storms comes from the incident at the concert. Now she is afraid that after every loud noise, someone will be hurt.

Sua has an Instagram account where she posts cosplays. At least one client has recognized her because of it.

She cosplays Shu's favorite characters from time to time.

It took Sua a lot of time to sing in front of Shu.

She can play piano, and at her last concert with her k-pop group, she played it. Afterward, she didn't touch a piano in years.

Sua used to have a crush on Kuranosuke's brother, even if she interacted with him the least.

Kuranosuke likes her the most out of all the engineers in the company. He respects Noemi a lot for being meticulous in her work. Yet, Sua's friendlier nature won him over.

She is sure that the most popular female who worked in the company is either Shirayuki or Noemi. But no, it's her.

Sua and Noemi solve physics problems for fun. Shirayuki is the worst at physics, so they like to do it in front of her.

Sua is the only extrovert in their trio. Yet, most people think it is Noemi.

Out of all Shirayuki's friends, she knows JSL the best. Kuranosuke asked her to teach him too.

She is a very fast typer. When Shu has something long to write, he asks her to do it if she is free.

Her parents see Shirayuki and Noemi as their kids and always ask them to spend holidays with them.

Sua used to have a photo of a sleeping Noemi as her phone background.

Sua is known for her kindness, yet she never sugar-coats her words. So, she may come across as rude sometimes.

Shirayuki Kiba

Shirayuki hair wears her hair in a short bob. Also, it's straight and black.

Shirayuki has a lot of trust in her former skating partner (Kaisei) and is sure he will never let her be hurt. During their skating days, he always tried to ease her falls.

Kaisei doesn't think that Kuranosuke is good enough at taking care of Shirayuki as him.

Also, Kaisei once tried to scare Kuranosuke, being taller and heavier than him. No one knows if that worked or not.

Shirayuki is afraid of getting into a car with anyone except Kaisei and Noemi. Even with them, she sometimes asks to stop and leaves the car to walk instead. 

Shirayuki's younger sister - Riyuki - spends holidays with Kuranosuke and Shirayuki.

To annoy Kuranosuke, Shirayuki takes out her hearing aids when he uselessly yells at her.

When Shirayuki found out that Shiori divorced because of her cheating, she started to sing songs about cheating every time they saw each other. The first was "Be alright" by Dean Lewis, which made Shiori cry.

Shirayuki used to be flexible too, yet after the accident, she can't bend her left knee like she used to.

Shirayuki and Kuranosuke's youngest brother compete in who is faster at making Naruto signs every time they meet.

Shirayuki suffers from panic attacks that are triggered by cars and her parents.

She has an enormous collection of mangas. Riyuki was the one who brought the ones that remained at her parents' place. To say that Kuranosuke isn't happy about the space they take is to say nothing.

Shirayuki is the richest of all three of them.

During her skating career, Kaisei was the one to give interviews most of the time because she didn't like talking.

Kuranosuke is her first crush. She had a crush on him when Ansetsu was still alive. The first time she talked to him was to stop him from saying something sarcastic and rude against her because she knew he would regret it later.

She is thinking about covering the scars on her left hand with tattoos.

Shirayuki is afraid she isn't as good of an older sibling as her brother.

Kuranosuke's parents didn't believe him when he told them about his wife. Shirayuki had to explain that they know each other for more than ten years.

From time to time, she wears her skates around the house to remember the feeling of being in them. Of course, she does it with the guards on, overwise who knows what damage it can bring to the floor.

She likes to go on long night walks. Sometimes she asks Noemi and/or Sua to come with her. Yet, she can go alone too. At least once, Kuranosuke was worried out of his mind because she went for a walk at 2 AM.

Noemi Daimon

Just like Shirayuki, she has black hair, yet it's long and with curls at the end.

Noemi used to form a dancing pair with Kuranosuke's younger brother. Shirayuki was the one to introduce them to each other. They did it to perform at events as a part-job. Noemi couldn't dance alone because of the sad memories regarding her parents' death.

Unlike Kaisei and Shirayuki, the youngest Kiba accidentally hurt Noemi a few times. That's the reason he is afraid of Togo. He doesn't want to know what Togo can do when he finds out his wife was hurt.

Noemi's brother - Konan, has a service dog that helps him with panic attacks.

Noemi used to have a t-shirt with "Daimon Togo's fan #1" even before they were married. No one knows if she had a crush on him or not.

Noemi taught Togo how to speak French.

Even after getting married, Noemi used to call Daimon by his last name and talk politely with him. It took her years to start calling him Togo.

Noemi was voted by Shirayuki and Sua as the one they would marry if they were men. Shiori agreed with them.

Kuranosuke's younger brother said that there was only one person good enough to be Noemi's husband - Togo. And he would have never accepted anyone worse than him for her.

Noemi used to have a pole for pole dance in their dorms.

She had a period in life when she slept for three-four hours each day because the rest, she was either studying or working.

Like Togo, she doesn't drink alcohol at parties. Instead, she drinks apple juice.

Noemi can fall asleep everywhere but wakes up easily.

Her nickname "Richard" was given by Shirayuki, who read Richard Feynman's autobiography and said that Noemi was his copy for lacking seriousness in day-to-day life.

She is the best driver in the trio.

She is used as a translator every time Miyoshi Concepts have international clients that speak French or German.

Noemi's siblings like Togo but tease him, saying he's old.

Kuranosuke's brother and Kaisei have some kind of a crush on Togo and always ask Noemi to take good care of him.

She has the best stage presence.

Her voice is very soft, which contrasts with her strong personality.

All three

Shirayuki and Sua were classmates, while Noemi was their junior.

You know the joke that in every group of three, one is responsible, one is always up for everything, and the last one is completely unhinged. So, in their group, it's like this: Shirayuki is responsible, Sua is up for everything, and Noemi is unhinged.

During their university days, all three of them shared an apartment.

In the bathroom of their apartment was a sketch of a penis from 25 points of view, made by Noemi. She had never dated anyone during that time. Now, the painting is in the Daimon family's house.

Kaisei opened a cafe with his wife, where everyone gets together.

For a year, Sua, Shirayuki, and Noemi had a fourth flatmate who studied at the same university. Later, they met again when she was a client of Miyoshi.

They have many videos from the time they were living together. 

From time to time, they meet at each others' houses for girls' night. The only problem is that usually one of their husbands or siblings is there. 

Noemi and Shirayuki have matching ear piercings in their helix. 

Sometimes they perform together dances and songs. Lowkey, their husbands like to see them doing this.

How To Be: Joker from Persona 5 (in 4e D&D)

In How To Be we’re going to look at a variety of characters from Not D&D and conceptualise how you might go about making a version of that character in the form of D&D that matters on this blog, D&D 4th Edition. Our guidelines are as follows:

This is going to be a brief rundown of ways to make a character that ‘feels’ like the source character

This isn’t meant to be comprehensive or authoritative but as a creative exercise

While not every character can work immediately out of the box, the aim is to make sure they have a character ‘feel’ as soon as possible

The character has to have the ‘feeling’ of the character by at least midway through Heroic

When building characters in 4th Edition it’s worth remembering that there are a lot of different ways to do the same basic thing. This isn’t going to be comprehensive, or even particularly fleshed out, and instead give you some places to start when you want to make something.

Another thing to remember is that 4e characters tend to be more about collected interactions of groups of things – it’s not that you get a build with specific rules about what you have to take, and when, and why, like you’re lockpicking your way through a design in the hopes of getting an overlap eventually. Character building is about packages, not programs, and we’ll talk about some packages and reference them going forwards.

When I plan for the year in front of me, one of the things I like to do is put ideas in the schedule for much later in the year, so that when that time of the year arrives, I have something challenging to work on with a lot of time thinking about it in the lead up. I apparently wrote down ‘Joker’ at some point in 2023, and then… didn’t think about it much. After all, what kind of character is Joker? A chaotic, clownish fool who gives a lecture from inside a police station’s interrogation room — what was I going to do? He’s a cipher, he’s a mystery, he’s an enigma, and whatever we know about his backstory is inherently untrustworthy.

Well, at least we’ll put on some cool music when we do it.

Oh wait what do you mean I put ‘in Persona 5’ in the blog title, that’s going to give away which Joker I mean, oh dang. Anyway.

Analysing Joker

Before we can start talking about how to represent a character we have to look at the character as they exist in their original text. This immediately presents a problem when you translate a a character like Joker. See, Joker is a Persona protagonist, which means that they are nearly a blank slate. Oh, I mean he is a blank slate. I mean, I dunno, something about that name makes having pronouns in the first place feel like an inappropriate overstep. Still just because I interpret Joker on sight as a fundamentally agender queerbo cosplaying whatever identity they fancy, that doesn’t mean you’re going to. It’s the least important part of the character for this build.

Point is, JRPGs that are like Persona 5 tend to try and make the protagonist an everyperson player character that you, the player can guide through a certain narrative, and their input or choices are largely unnecessary; that is, most of them just do what they’re told or presented with a series of non-choices. Not just the classic ‘but thou must!’ story, but even characters like Butz from Final Fantasy V are rarely asked to make choices based on their values because they’re being confronted with a linear series of requests from a secondary character. This isn’t to say all JRPG characters are largely blank slates, but Joker very much is.

What there is of Joker in Persona 5 is mostly about the kinds of choices the game presents you with. Fortunately, there is a common thread of characterisation and behaviour there. It’s not like a truly freeform thing like, for example, a Dark Souls character who doesn’t even have a meaningful mechanical thread to hold them together. Joker is a thief, he’s capable of being sassy, and he’s an insightful planner. He uses knives, and sometimes guns, moves quickly and freely, wears a mask, a longcoat and maybe has wings.

More than that is going to be challenging, but the good news is it’s kinda not important, we don’t need anything else. Oh, there’s more stuff, if I wanted to dive deep into a very thoroughly written wiki, but that’s the exact opposite approach to this that I think is helpful. See, it wasn’t my plan to dedicate two of this year’s How To Be entries to the task of reading enormous wiki pages written by people who see a comprehensive sequence of events one after another as a meaningful explanation of who a character is. There’s just something about the fandom space of wikis that seems completely allergic to the notion of considering a character’s inner life or things they care about versus caring about a bulleted list of every single game memorised step by step, which, you know what, to some extent, you do you, Fandom contributors.

You absolute weirdoes.

Instead, the plan is to follow a much purer version of what it means when someone produces pictures of a character and says ‘I want to do what they do.’ They’re thinking not about the canon narrative of the character, but typically, the prototype of what that character is in how they’re presented. In much the same way that fanfiction boils a character down to their most memetic moments, How To Be is trying to capture a character in the moments you most want to ensoul.

If you show up to the table with Joker’s character art in the image section of your character sheet, you’re not here to have a conversation about menus that go click and animate nicely, you’re probably here to play a ridiculously hot boy who is also a bird, a thief, and the centre of attention whenever he wants to be, and absolutely unnoticed when he doesn’t want to be. It’s fascinating in that this is composed out of a superficial interest (this character looks interesting) and then involves a deliberate attempt to add depth to that interest (this look implies things).

With that in mind, then, here’s our First Principles for Joker.

The Basics

Joker wields two weapons, wears light armour but not no armour (coat and mask), is personable, witty, and driven, and he’s a leader in his group. A literal demonic conspiracy is what keeps his natural charm from taking over the world and all of those things cook together to present a character with a reasonably simple set of parameters to build in.

With that, there are some build options that are best considered in terms of the role you want to fulfil.

Defender

Your options for a defender who wields a knife have to get a little deliberately weird because knives are typically small, light blades and most defenders don’t tend to wield those. Not that they can’t, and light blades are a good category, it’s just that you might need to look at ‘knives’ and ask yourself how close you care about that specific idea.

I don’t think I care very much about the idea of treating a longsword and shield as a knife and the mask; the pieces are there, they’re attackable, and they both have similar purposes, and neither puts exceptional demands on the character mechanically. A DM can happily mess with both without needing to change any rules. To me, that’s a simple theme shift. Take a sword-and-board Paladin, use Charisma melee powers, and maybe even look at poaching the mount from the Cavalier with a power swap feat.

If you are a hardcore ride or die no-way-no-else option then the Paladin – the default Charisma-based melee defender – is going to need to rely on something other than its weapon attacks to punish people. Good news, the Paladin has Divine Challenge and Divine Sanction to manage both of those things. This pushes you towards a high-Charisma, highly mobile build of the Paladin sacrificing melee damage for spellcasting power, but it does open up dagger implement options for your divine powers, and the Accurate Dagger, which is neat.

Controller

I cannot believe I am saying this but in Heroes of Shadow, the Essentials lines presents the Binder Warlock.

I know I know I know, that book sucks. It’s got the Vampire and the Blackguard in it, those are not good classes. And I don’t think the Binder is a great class. It’s building on the Warlock, which has always been a class struggling to pull ahead of its contemporaries in the base classes. Not a bad class – few classes are bad – but less of an outright damage beast than other strikers.

The Binder sidesteps the Warlock’s problem by instead focusing on controlling enemies – dealing with larger groups of minions and having powers that deprived enemies of actions or made the actions they had inefficient. And at that, in terms of sheer ability to make a single target’s life difficult, the Binder is pretty good. What’s more, because the Binder gets powers with levels from the Warlock spell list, the Binder can just pick up Warlock powers, instead of being locked into a small number of specifics along with their starting package.

What’s more, the Star Pact even gives you stealth and free movement around enemies’ behaviour, which plays into the roguish, playful vibes here. Intelligence and Charisma are important stats, take a dagger as your implement, and when the time comes to pick your powers, grab stuff from the core Warlock books, like Curse of the Dark Dream and Shadow Tentacles. You can also build to play with the Charm and Psychic keywords. Check out Psychic Lock in the paragon tier for a  reason to care about doing psychic damage.

Striker

I imagined when I started that our parameters would present a serious barrier for the striker role. Charisma is typically a spellcaster stat, and strikers that use Charisma are typically using it to cast spells, throwing energy. That’s fine and all, but it somehow seems out of type for a Striker version of Joker to have knives and not use them.

Guess what?

There’s a knife sorcerer.

Oh, the knife sorcerer is still a sorcerer, they still blast things and have access to blasts and bursts and all sorts of classic ‘fistfuls of dice’ style blaster platform. But it also has along with that, a melee basic attack that can be typed, an encounter teleport, and you don’t need to commit hard to using these things to make them good, they’re just solid on their own if you’re already starting from the position of ‘I want to hold daggers.’

If you take this route and go Storm Sorcerer, the character immediately slots into the space of a Mark of Storm build; you have a melee basic attack that shoves people away from you, your flights last longer and all your area effect lightning attacks can be used to sculpt the battlefield. But also because you’ve got a melee basic attack that’s not worth nothing, you can build for powers like the White Lotus line of Arcane power feats that punish people for retaliating against you.

It’s a nice, snug package, it all works together and none of the parts are bad without one another.

Leader

And really, this is is what this is all building up to.

As a leader, Joker can be a bard. Bards are great. Bards are in fact, amazing. Bards are so good as leaders that you can kinda just wing it with your powers. If you start with a Bard as your base and focus on the melee powers, you’re pushed towards the Valorous bard, which in turn means you’re going to be producing a lot of temporary hit points for the whole group, and your powers can focus on playing with that.

But also.

A bard has access to the amazing feat Combat Virtuoso. Combat Virtuoso lets you use your Charisma in place of the attacking stat for other powers you have, if you got them through multiclassing. Which means that a Half-Elf bard with Combat Virtuoso can have Twin Strike that feeds on Charisma. That’s spicy. But also you don’t even need to be a Half-Elf. If you multiclass Ranger, such as with Warrior of the Wilds (with the less strict requirements and a single-turn Hunter’s Quarry bonus in it), you can then use the feat Martial Readiness to swap one of your bard At-Wills for Twin Strike.

“Hang on,” you may say, “That needs a martial at-will attack power to swap.”

Okay, take any of the Skald Aura powers, which, for some reason, are listed as level 1 At-Will Bard attack powers. You can take them. And then you can use Martial Readiness to swap one for Twin Strike. At level 2.

This is obviously very silly, but it’s a way to get access to this trick – Twin Strike on a charismatic, magical supporting leader type – very early. Twin Strike’s really good, and it’s worth building to play around with.

Conclusion

Joker is a really sweet look and for this kind of exercise the problem was much more about finding ways to make a character who could justify it than it was trying to ensoul his specific ideas in a game. But the joy of this exercise is that each of these variations still carries within it something of the promise of Persona. There’s the mind-melting of the Binder, there’s the dashing team leader of the Bard, and there’s even room for the high-damage, high-impact flashiness of a sorcerer wielding those cool daggers.

Fun exercise, I liked it a lot.

Do toxic fans in some online spaces make it difficult to become or identify as a fan?

In the present world, social media holds an incredible power which can affect or influence an individual’s social life which either can be in positive way or negative way. Among in this present generation, people constantly feeling pressured especially among the youngsters to keep up with what is popular and trying to seek approvals from their peers. In this case, fandom community are often facing this situation every day. While social media can be used by people who are a fan of a particular something which either can be a fan of movies, anime, favorite celebrities, and so forth, utilizing it to express their thoughts, or opinions on the platform, as well as maintaining connections can contribute to a positive atmosphere. However, what will happen when social media cease to contribute to an individuals’ happiness, sense of belonging, support and empowerment, fulfillment and enjoyment, and stress relief, turned into a source of toxicity in the fandom community? According to Taylor (2023), the term “toxic fandom” is used to describe admirers of popular culture who engage in behaviors that are seen as inappropriate and unpleasant.  Especially on social media, toxic fans that bring their negative behaviors can lead to a serious issue among the other fans within the fandom community as well as people’s perspective from the outside to have different views on the community in general. Which brings us to this question arises; Do toxic fans in some online spaces make it difficult to become or identify as a fan?

Let’s look at K-pop fandom as an example here. When an individual is discussing a K-pop group on social media platforms, disagreement from other fans can happen. But disagreement from a certain fans, the individual may expose themselves to cyberbullying. Online discussions about K-pop group very often it can lead to intimidation, racial slurs, misogynistic remarks, and even explicit death threats if the discussion using a single term that goes against the broader K-pop community. It could be criticizing K-pop groups or labels, making statements that don’t portray the group in the best light, even expressing support for different K-pop acts. In addition to that, even discussing K-pop cyberbullying can lead to backlash and be blamed for pointing out the evident issue by bullies who can’t accept valid criticism. Not to mention, engaging with trolls is also pointless as they might label the individual who speaks out as an  ‘ anti ’ and using whataboutism to justify their actions. Even for a journalist, who are also a passionate fans, may downplay the problem ,saying its minimal and limited to a small group. (Raphael Rashid, 2022)

As a fan of anime, myself, sometimes I like to discuss it with other people on social media even with the people who just started to get into anime. From my perspective it is a wonderful sight and interaction because I met other people who have the same interest as mine and consider them as fellow allies. However, there are some fans who gatekeeping other fans from taking part in activities, for example discussing anime shows. According to Urban Dictionary, the term Gatekeeping is someone who takes it upon themselves to decide who does or does not have access or rights to a community or identity. In fandom context, it is someone who acts of setting up barriers, criteria, or requirements to determine who is considered as a “ true ” fan and who is not. Often these gatekeepers use the phrase “ you’re not a true fan “ as a weapon that they throw around and uses those weak justifications and labeling others encourage new fans to keep their developing interests hidden until they feel experienced enough to proudly share them. For example, when Megan Thee Stallion displayed and expressed her love for anime on social media, many gatekeepers expressed their hatred because the character she cosplayed doesn’t match her skin color and isn’t worthy of being identifies as a true anime fan. (Nicole Trinidad, 2021).

In conclusion, every fandom has its fair share of troublesome fans. Though it is fun and enjoyable to engage and interact with other people who has mutual interest in particular fandom, these toxic fans that belongs in the fandom community that has been mentioned above, does make it very challenging for other fans to discuss, and express their thoughts on social media without ever have to feel of being judged by those “ so-called fans” just because they view it as a fact, and think it in a very close minded. Nevertheless, there are also numerous respectful fans combating the negativity of the fandom, trying to make social media a good platform to have fun with others that have real passion, mutual, and love for something that they like.

Bimonthly Media Roundup

- Hellsing Abridged (Webseries) - A rather old one but I do really like the aesthetic of this series - The kind of rough gothic look that was popular in the early 2000s. I appreciate that the author took the Dracula lore and just decided to go really weird with it with the multiple monster designs for Alucard himself, then applying that same "Rule of Cool looks over logic" monster lore for every other character in the series.

- Army of Darkness (Movie) - VHS night at my friends place, While I was familiar with Ash Vs the Evil dead I'd never actually seen this film and uh. Well I don't know what I was expecting but boy this sure wasn't that. I would not exactly call this a 'good' movie but it certainly was a fun one, and an incredible watching experience in a group setting. It reminded me a lot of Big Trouble in Little China with it's campy low budget energy where weird shit is constantly happening that the movie will never explain and the characters react very nonchalantly to the batshit things they are experiencing, Plot wise the movie could be described as Bruce Campbells No-Good Very Bad Day but the things that make it bad are honestly very funny and creative so good for it. I wish they made more movies like this nowadays honestly, just dumb little fun passion projects with obviously fake but still cool practical effects and an unnecessary skeleton army.

- Star Trek Strange New Worlds (TV) - Not too far in yet so not much to say, I like court themed episodes so I'm having fun with season 2 so far. Pike and Uhura are my faves as they are just very likable and silly guys who still know when to take their jobs seriously. Also this is a cool poster.

- Star Trek Lower Decks (TV) - Also only 2 episodes in so far but Season 4 is starting strong, I loved The Moopsy and everything about it and the menagerie in general, the vulcan girl getting a larger role with Tendi in particular seems like it will be a fun dynamic, and the humor and overall hyped vibes of the characters is still as strong as ever. Hmm I wonder if it would be worth it to paint myself green to do a Tendi cosplay or if Homestuck made that illegal for everyone forever.

- Dr Stone (Anime) - Yup.

- The S Classes That I Raised (Webnovel) - While I was never not invested in the story I've glad we've moved on to a new arc. Han Yoojin using his abilities to find people with unique non-fighting skills to take business away from what would be an evil mega corporation is a nice use of time-travel based knowledge, so I hope we get a bit more of that. I also would like some more downtime as I like all the characters and wish they got to hang out in low stakes situations more often. I suppose I'm also just a bit worn out of scrolling through action scenes, as while I quite like the art (and especially the coloring) style, the big effect explosions just don't translate super well to the scrolling style still-art pages of K-webcomics. That being said it could be a lot worse as Yoojin's relative powerlessness does make every fight at least interesting in how it needs to be thought through rather than just punched a lot - I just enjoy the fun character banter and political drama more.

- Ace Attorney Vs Professor Layton (Video Game) - Well that ending. happened. In truth I don't hate the twist necessarily on it's own, so much that it's the kind of twist that if you think about it too long it retroactively makes the rest of the story nonsensical. I also find the storyteller and Darklaw's motives to be very dumb which brings it down, not to mention they just axed Barnum from the last part of the game entirely despite him being arguably the best character in the game. Overall I didn't hate the game though, as I found a lot of the little character dialogue, puzzles, and Layton interactions cute - It makes me want to play a Layton game again that's for sure. I'm not sure it's a good Ace Attorney game as it feels very tonally different from the rest of the series, but hey with this I've experienced every Ace Attorney game in the franchise so that's nice, I'll have to do some character and case rankings at some point.

- One Piece (Anime) - Just finished Skypia and thinking about doing a liveblog from this point out. This was a pretty good arc honestly, I loved the villains design aesthetic and powers, lots of good crew bonding moments (Especially for Sanji + Usopp and Luffy + Nami), I liked the setting, the flashback episodes with Mont Blanc had uh questionable politics but the "we both have wives offscreen but are always shown together, think about each other constantly, and die thinking only of the other" gayness of it all made me laugh, and I think it did a good job giving everyone something interesting to do. Other notes would be how funny it is that Robin for the first half was having an entirely different, lovely experience wandering through the woods while everyone fights for their lives, that she nonchalantly snapped a guys neck when he told her to leave, and that poor Chopper had to fight 3/4 of the big bad guys all by himself that poor little deer.

- Genshin Impact (Video Game) - Still here, doing more co-op with my friend now, exploring the bonkers long Chasm quests in Liyue, hoping Kokomi comes back because I want her on my team so bad. Anyway Inazuma has been cool so far, I like the different environments on the islands (other than the lightning island which can sink into the ocean frankly) and there are lots of good character designs. Also I've been listening to the music more and its good!
