Time: May Location: Ten
The back of Nettle and Bramble's truck was, once again, fucking sticky. The drive was long: the bed of the truck a little emptier without Slate. The whole thing excruciatingly awkward with Cat. Mahlon was certain that he would have fared better by just staying in Eleven, but that wasn't an option. No, just like he'd tried to tell Cat: the fucking jig was up. Time to call it quits.
The only consolation on the drive was Nettle's moonshine. At least the berries were good for something besides staining his clothes and skin. So when they dropped him over the border of Ten, Mahlon was already feeling it. By the time he made it to Victor's Village -- pretty solely inhabited by Greer -- he was plastered. Swaying in his steps, humming one of the songs the Vox used to communicate, he meandered through the center square, trying to remember which one she lived in. The one closest? The one at the far end? Thankfully, he didn't have to think too hard. A light turned on, flashing bright, blinding him in the middle of the night.
"Howdy," he smiled, lopsided, holding the bottle of moonshine up. "Thought you'd want some."

APRIL 9TH - 22ND
THE INVESTIGATION
The recent news story that broke in the past week explaining the investigation team believed had Penny been murdered due to awareness of why Greer left had everyone on campus shaken. Not only was it now public knowledge that someone on campus had overheard such a thing, they also knew someone had mentioned Greer’s potential trip to Portugal - and in all likelihood, neither of these people were even the same person who had thrown Link under the bus with the mysterious G, something that was seemingly only known to students. The list of people Ogden College students could trust was growing shorter and shorter. Even THE GOLDEN GIRL, who had held so many of their secrets in her hands couldn’t be trusted, if what had been reported about her time capsule video accusing her own boyfriend of steroid use could be believed. And who knew what else that video contained ?? If only someone - other than G - could get their hands on the full thing.
ooc; if your character wishes to report something, they may do so in an ask to the main.

What happened?!
This is my versions of Sweetheart, Darln, and Freelancer from the Redacted Audios, Redacted ASMR, or the Redactedverse
Whos Who: Sweetheart: Astral Darlin: Rever Freelancer: Meric
tw: meantions of injury, depiction of injury, and cussing
if you have any questions I’m happy to answer!
"See, this is why I told you to keep someone who can heal you on speed dial," Meric snapped as his grip on the steering wheel tightened, the feeling of the leather comforting him a little bit as his playlist blared around the Ferrari he was driving. It was a gift from his sibling's boyfriend. It always cracked him up to think that Vincent had sent him the car to ask permission to date his older sibling. Meric sighed at the good memory until he heard the shifter in his folded-down passenger seat scream out in pain as the Stealth by him held him down, trying to comfort and heal him simultaneously. "It's okay, you're fine," Astral said calmly, but their voice shook from using their powers, "It'll be fine," Meric repeated gently as he stared at the road. "What the fuck happened anyways?" Astral snapped, pressing their hand onto the open wound on Rever's side, causing the werewolf to groan and whine as his eyes opened wide, the pain shooting through him, causing him to jump.
"I SENSED HIM. I fucking sensed him. He and his stupid wavy hair. IT WAS RECENT LIKE A FEW DAYS," Rever said, gasping through pained breaths. The words made the Stealth's blood run cold, and the freelancer's heart almost stopped as memories flashed in his eyes. "What" Meric whispered as Rever tried lifting his head. "I saw him. I was out for a run I sensed him. I fucking ran following the fucking trace, but I wasn't paying attention. I slipped and fell off the fucking cliff. I left my bike at Sams." he gasped as the Stealth healed him, and he gasped. "Holy shit, well, no wonder your head is bleeding so much, and you have many broken bones, and you're all scratched up, and your side looks like it was stabbed," Astral whispered. They knew the shifter must have climbed their way out and crawled to the road as Meric said, "Give me a number. . . " Astral nodded before he looked down and quickly gave the first number he could find in Rever's phone. Staring at the shifter, who was now unconscious. "Hello?" The southern voice made Astrals heart soar and filled Meric with confusion, "Hello?" the voice repeated before Astral started speaking in a fearful tone, "Sam." "Oh hey, Astral, what's up?" "What are you doing?" "Lookn for Darlin, why?" "We have him. We're on our way to Davids. It's a pack meeting tonight, so Milo's mom might be there." "Why?" Sam's voice had started to fill with seriousness and fear, "Rever got into an accident. We found him by the road. He'll be fine; I just need healing help," Meric interrupted before Astral could explain. He didn't know who this guy was, but he could tell he meant something to Rever. "I'm on my way" was the only thing that Sam said before the call went dead, and Meric looked at Astral, "Give me the address," he said. Time Skip As the pack members started leaving Davids's home, David and Mirax were seeing Milo, his mother, and Asher and his mate. But the sound of a truck pulling up to the house caused them to look up at the red truck, "Sam?" David asked, confused. "Rever left like 30 minutes ago? He said he would run here in his shifted form. Why are you here?" David said, walking off the porch. Milo and Asher followed. The vampire went to speak but was interrupted by a red Ferrari speeding into the driveway. Astral jumped out screaming, "MARIE SAM" both Greers looked up, but nothing had to be said when the Stealth pulled the half-awake and halfway-healed shifter out of the car. "WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED" was the last thing Rever heard. The last thing he saw was his mate and aunt running towards him, his Alpha looking worried while holding his mate back, and Asher being held back by his mate.
But the two sharp dark-red eyes staring at him from the darkness made his blood almost run cold.
Hope you enjoy!!

"He uses it for his rheumatism," said his mother.
"I am not an addict," broke in accused.
Whalen had a long record, which included theft and housebreaking charges. "I don't want to send you to jail," sighed the eadi. "It would do neither you nor your mother any good. You had better stop the drugs because they are only steps to more serious things. They will lead to your ruin. I am going to put you on probation for a year to Captain Bunton of the Salvation Army."
Betrayed By a Bottle When Harry Higgen got out of a car involved in an accident at the corner of Lowther Ave, and St. George St. last Thursday, a bottle. half full of whiskey, tumbled to the pavement. "Mike Hiba gave it to me and told me to treat my sister." she testified, in tears. "I didn't think there was anything wrong."
Hiba, she said, lived at her mother's house with her three little brothers and another man.
At the suggestion of the bench a charge of having was brought against Hiba, who denied everything, never saw the girl that day." he asserted. "I am hard-working peddler."
"Of alcohol?" queried J. A. Marshall, crown prosecutor. "Er-nh-no." replied Mike.
"I don't believe this man. He is not telling the truth." decided Magistrate Browne, fining Hiba $100 and costs or 3 months, with an additional one month in jail and discharging the girl.
Day of Young Criminals "Isn't it the boys of this age that are the experienced criminals of today?" remarked Magistrate Browne when Arthur O'Reilly, 20, pleaded guilty to shopbreaking. "I don't see many of the old timers involved in big crimes nowadays."
O'Reilly alias O'Brien, who charged jointly with Gerald was H. Browne with breaking into Herman Speers' drug store on Gerrard St. E.. March 19, had admitted stealing $13.40 and a quantity of cigarettes and tobacco. He was given 60 days in the reformatory while Browne was discharged.
T. B. Horkins made a strong plea for mitigation, pointing out the accused had only been married three months and was making a determined effort to reform and live down several other convictions of theft. "He is a wanderer from Nova Scotia without guidance," he pleaded. "He was perfectly frank about it all and accepts all the responsibility."
"He has had experience In crime," his worship observed. "If it were not for counsel's plea I would be tempted to send him to the reformatory for two years: his record warrants it. There is no doubt in my mind that he was shielding this other man."

GEORGIA
2024 June 7 (Fri) – At 9 a.m., we went to the marina to pick up our pontoon boat. Allatoona Lake is quite large and we saw a small part of it. Noah drove most of the time. He was so thrilled with the whole adventure. We even stopped at a beach to swim in the lake (Paul and Noah did; not me). When we returned, we rode into town for lunch at KFC. Then it was on to an RV dealer where Paul shopped for a part for the awning. There is a rubber strip that keeps slipping out of the track. Paul repaired it twice but it still slips out. What a pain in the butt.
2024 June 6 (Thu) – It rained overnight. Noah wandered in around 11 p.m. because the thunder scared him, but after a few minutes, he returned to his blowup bed in the living room. It rained on and off all day.
We headed into Kennesaw to the Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History. It was fun and very educational. Afterward, we stopped at a pizza place for lunch. It was exceptionally good; considering how New York snobbish we are about pizza.
When we got back to the marina, I reserved a pontoon boat for us for tomorrow.
2024 June 5 (Wed) – Today’s adventure was to the Patrol Pinball Arcade. The place had about 70 or 80 pinball machines; some quite dated. For $12 an hour, we each got to roam around and play with different machines. It was fun.
We refueled with lunch at McDonald’s. Then the truck got fuel, too. We had a quick stop at Publix and then back to the campground. After dinner, we had a campfire where we tried to roast giant marshmallows. They were too big for the graham crackers and kept oozing off.
2024 June 4 (Tue) – We drove to Tellus Science Center in Cartersville. What a great museum! We had a great time and spent over 3 hours exploring the exhibits. We saw a movie and had lunch in the onsite café.
After the museum, we drove to a nearby Navy rec area to see about renting a boat. Turns out the Air Force arranges for the boat rentals (how ironic). We have to go online or call to arrange for a rental. When I called, the office was closed. I’ll have to try again tomorrow. I also called Memorial Sloan Kettering to have my medication refilled. Unfortunately, this marina does not accept packages so we had to find a nearby UPS store to accept the shipment.
When we got back to the campground, we went to the outdoor grill at the marina for dinner. I had shrimp tacos, Paul had wings, and Noah had chicken tenders with fries. We went back to the camper and watched movies before turning in.
2024 June 3 (Mon) – We packed up and left Greer, SC, at 9 a.m. with Noah riding with us. The weather was nice and the drive was without incident. We arrived at Holiday Harbor Marina & Campground at 1 p.m. After set up, we took a walk around the campground. There is a marina office, several boat docks (all off limits), an outdoor grill and an indoor steakhouse.

"She's got me whipped," Mahlon whistled, because that, too, was true. She could shoot him a look and it would strike him dead. That's how much power Greer held over him, how willingly he had given himself to her. "Maybe, if I ask real nice, she'll help with a chore or two."
But Greer spoke, and her tone grew serious. Not quite somber, but genuine in a way he wasn't used to. Mahlon fell silent, trying to reciprocate, even if the intimacy of the moment made him itch to joke, to brush past it, to move. Seriousness was reserved for danger. Environments were only safe if there was laughter, if there was levity. But being near Greer had never hurt, so he stilled, staying when it was uncomfortable to do so, fingertips tracing the inside of her arm, lips pressing to her shoulder.
"Ain't never felt more at home than Ten," he promised, lingering against her skin. "I chose t'come there the first time--" after Eleven, drunk on moonshine, covered in the sticky juice of blackberries from being jostled around the back of Nettle and Bramble's truck. "An' I'll keep choosin' it." He peered up, catching the side of her face, the corners of her eyes. Another kiss, this time to her cheek. "I'll keep choosin' you."
Mahlon blushed, embarrassing himself, needing to clear his throat and turn away. Greer drew liquid up into the dropper, placing a single dot down onto the paper. It absorbed quickly, disappearing entirely. "Mm, nope, that's perfect," he nodded, sucking in a deep breath, trying to make the intensity of his emotions go away. "Keep goin'," he encouraged. "You're doin' great."
"You got all'a that on your plate?" She asked, like she hadn't helped construct the list of things that needed to be done-- the odds and ends they'd stumbled upon and then put off for when the weather was nicer. "Your girlfriend sounds like a real hard ass," she teased. But really, she didn't expect Mahlon to do any of it alone. She'd be there in the garden with him, or next to him dipping into a can of paint.
Greer nodded as Mahlon ventured to guess how long it could take anything to be rebuilt in Twelve. She wasn't quite sure how to make herself understood here. She didn't want to sound dismissive, unaffected by what they did with Twelve. She did believe that Twelve mattered enough to be rebuilt, and she hated that it existed in ruin, even if she hoped Mahlon didn't go back to it. But at the same time, she wanted him to be able to choose freely. She wanted him to stay in Ten because it felt like home, not because he had no other home to return to.
She searched Mahlon's expression, his brows knit, and Greer thought maybe it warranted just saying how she felt. "I like havin' you at our place," she clarified. "And Edi would be crushed if she didn't get to fight with ya," she added, a soft smile ghosting her expression. "Jus' never want you t' feel like you got stuck in Ten." And she wanted to swallow the vulnerability that came with being honest about how she felt, but this was Mahlon. She'd moved past playing coy with him, dancing around what she wanted. "What we got in Ten is as much yours as it is mine, but I want you to be able to feel like that's on purpose," she admitted. "You deserve to feel like you didn't have your choices taken away." Greer had grown up in a world where choice didn't exist, and the little freedoms she did have now meant everything to her. So, when she chose Mahlon, it was because she meant it, and she believed that he deserved to get to choose too.
She took the dropper from his hand, eager for the levity of throwing herself into the task in front of them, tactile and straightforward. "Okay, I hear ya," she answered, waving him off and drawing up a bit of solution. Carefully, she hovered the dropper over the sheet, honing in on the cartoon alien of a corner tab. She let one drop fall and soak into the paper. "More?" she asked.

Halloween kills 2021 review
Director - David Gordon green
Studio - Blum house pictures
Spoilers below!
I was quite nervous going into this film after seeing the critics tear it to shreds and also being a massive fan of HALLOWEEN 2018, I was worried that this film wasn’t going to live up to expectations and instead ruin the new timeline 2018’s Halloween set up. But boy was I wrong. This movie was awesome! It was fun, it’s was violent and it was scary.
This film picks up a mere moment after 2018’s credits roll but before we find out what happens to Laurie and her family we go back to Halloween night 1978 and see how Michael was captured after killing Lauries friends. We get to see the old myers house looking exactly the same as it did in 1978’s Halloween and I was really impressed at the detail this film took in recreating the look and feel of 1978’s Halloween. Even going as far as using the original score in the flashbacks. The attention to detail making sure the film remains faithful to the original material is flawless. Any fan of John carpenters 1978 Classic will be pleasantly surprised! We even get a cameo from Dr Sam Loomis himself! This was very well done and the decision to use face prosthetics over cgi worked so much better! So after the flash back ends we see Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) her daughter Karen (Judy Greer) and Allyson (Andi Matichak) on the back of the truck. They have just trapped Michael in Lauries burning house and are on their way to the hospital. But just as they think they are in the clear they see the fire brigade on their way to put the fire out and that unfolds into one of the biggest slaughters haddonfield has ever seen. They unintentionally rescue Michael and he resumes his killing spree.
So this movie introduces a lot of legacy characters from the original 1978 Halloween. We are introduced to Lindsey Wallace (Kyle Richards) who reprises her role from 1978. Tommy Doyle (Anthony Michael hall) Marion (Nancy Stephen’s) and Lonnie Elam (Robert Longstreet) these are all Halloween veterans with Kyle and Nancy reprising their roles from the original movie. And even though it was pretty fan servicy to see the original characters return. It worked really well because it adds to the theme of trauma that 2018’s Halloween started and shows how Michael’s killing spree in 78 affected everyone.
This movie chooses to focus on multiple characters rather than one main lead which I think also works well for the type of film Halloween kills is. Jamie Lee Curtis’s Laurie strode take a side step in this movie as she is recovering from the almost fatal wounds that Michael gave her in the previous movie. This was a smart move as I feel it’s setting up the third and final instalment where Laurie and Michael will come face to face one more time! The rest of the cast form a mob who all decide to take matters into their own hands and go after Michael themselves. The mob being lead by Tommy Doyle. Michael is almost the main character in this movie as he gets a lot of screen time and does a lot of killing! He tears through the town of haddonfield and nothing seems to be able to stop him. Out of the town of haddonfield Tommy and Karen really stand out to me. Tommy who’s intentions are good he feels that Laurie protected him from the boogie man as a child and now it’s his turn to protect her. Tommy leads the mob and really does a good job of making sure the mob lives up to its name. There is a very controversial moment where Tommy mistakes another escaped inmate for Michael and causes the whole mob to chase him this eventually leads to him jumping from the hospital roof which is a very sad scene but also shows us that maybe the “mob mentality” isn’t always good. Karen played by the amazing Judy Greer takes on a much larger role in this film who takes it on herself to also protect her mother from this mad man. I feel Karen has a lot of guilt for almost disowning her mother and calling her crazy and not believing her that Michael was a dangerous man. She delivers in this film by doing a lot of the fighting for her mother and protecting her daughter Allyson.
Now we come to the end of Halloween kills. Last warning spoilers ahead. So the end of the film reveals that Laurie isn’t Michaels target and to be honest Michael couldn’t care less about Laurie more so that Laurie was in his way and kind of put herself in his cross fire. But because the town of haddonfield and Lauries family believe that Michael is after Laurie they all go after him. Michael as far as we can determine is simply trying to go home. He wants to return to his childhood home and look out of his sisters window like he used to do back when he was 6. When he gets to his home it is occupied by a gay couple big John and little John. These two act as the comic relief of the movie and are brilliant on screen. Michael quickly deals with the johns and finally has his home to himself again. Lonnie, allyson and her boyfriend Cameron (who is also Lonnies son) turn up at the myers house with the intention of killing Michael. Lonnie goes in alone first. After Alyson and Cameron hear a struggle they go inside too. Michael very quickly kills Lonnie and Cameron and very nearly kills off Allyson. This adds to a running theme that everyone underestimates Michael in thinking he is a normal human being. Karen turns up and saves her daughter while also removing Michaels mask. She lures him to the next street and this is revealed to be a trap. As I’m the next street is Tommy and his gang. Tommy and his gang all decide to beat down on Michael and Karen delivers the final blow stab in him in the back of the neck. The town has won. They finally have defeated Michael! Karen goes back to Allyson and comforts her. The Triumph is short lived though as Michael gets back up and attacks the group killing everyone. Including Tommy. This again adds to the theme that all these people seriously underestimate Michael. While Michael is killing everyone back at the myers House Karen sees an image of a young 6 year old Michael in his sisters window. She goes to investigate. When she gets to the window Michael springs up behind her and murders her. This death is very hard as Karen is such a good character and has been the driving force behind this movie. Again the theme of people underestimating Michael comes again. Karen who believed she killed the boogie man let’s her guard down and it costs her her life. The death was beautifully done as it echoed the same way Michael killed Judith all those years ago. We close the movie with Karen being murdered and Laurie in the hospital giving a speech on how she believes Michael isn’t human and is an unstoppable force. She says this not knowing that Michael his succeeded yet again in killing everyone she loves.
This ending also teases the fact that Michael might very well be supernatural. No normal human would be able to take as many blows he has and get up again after it. This is a theme that has been explored in the now non cannon sequels. I just hope this doesn’t go way over the top and ruin the feel of Michael. I am more than happy to see an explanation of what actually keeps Michael coming back for more. Is it his mask? Let’s just hope they don’t go down tho route of cults and men in black once again. This ending leaves the story wide open and ready for the third and final movie Halloween ends. Is Laurie going to be out for revenge for the death of her daughter? Will Michael win again finally killing Laurie? We will have to wait and see in Halloween ends next year!
This film really delivers as a sequel and also as a mid point in a trilogy. It delivers in true Halloween fashion the violence and nightmareish world John carpenter created in 1978. So I can’t stress this enough when I say don’t listen to the reviews go see this movie for yourself if you are a fan of horror but more so if your a Halloween fan. It’s a bloody good ride and won’t disappoint you!
Rating - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

One America News, the far-right network whose fortunes and viewership rose amid the triumph and tumult of the Trump administration, has flourished with support from a surprising source: AT&T Inc, the world's largest communications company.
A Reuters review of court records shows the role AT&T played in creating and funding OAN, a network that continues to spread conspiracy theories about the 2020 election and the COVID-19 pandemic.
OAN founder and chief executive Robert Herring Sr has testified that the inspiration to launch OAN in 2013 came from AT&T executives.
“They told us they wanted a conservative network,” Herring said during a 2019 deposition seen by Reuters. “They only had one, which was Fox News, and they had seven others on the other [leftwing] side. When they said that, I jumped to it and built one.”
Since then, AT&T has been a crucial source of funds flowing into OAN, providing tens of millions of dollars in revenue, court records show. Ninety percent of OAN’s revenue came from a contract with AT&T-owned television platforms, including satellite broadcaster DirecTV, according to 2020 sworn testimony by an OAN accountant.
Herring has testified he was offered $250 million for OAN in 2019. Without the DirecTV deal, the accountant said under oath, the network’s value “would be zero.”
Dallas-based AT&T, a mobile-phone and Internet provider, also owns entertainment giant Warner Media, which includes CNN and HBO. AT&T acquired DirecTV in 2015 and in August spun off the satellite service, retaining a 70% share in the new, independently managed company. AT&T’s total U.S. television subscriber base, including satellite and streaming services, fell from 26 million in 2015 to 15.4 million as of August.
AT&T spokesman Jim Greer declined to comment on the testimony about OAN’s revenue streams, citing confidentiality agreements. He said that DirecTV broadcasts “many news channels that offer viewpoints across the political spectrum.”
“We have always sought to provide a wide variety of content and programming that would be of interest to customers, and do not dictate or control programming on channels we carry,” Greer said. “Any suggestion otherwise is wrong.”
Although the contracts are confidential, in court filings Herring cited monthly fees included in one five-year deal with AT&T. According to an AT&T filing citing Herring’s numbers, those fees would total about $57 million. Greer said that figure is inaccurate, but declined to say how much AT&T has paid to air OAN, citing a non-disclosure agreement.
Herring and his adult sons own and operate OAN, a subsidiary of their closely held San Diego-based Herring Networks. Their AT&T deal includes Herring’s other network, a little-watched lifestyle channel, AWE. The Herrings declined interview requests.
Herring, who just turned 80, is a self-made businessman who amassed a fortune in the circuit board industry, then turned to television and boxing promotion. OAN’s influence rose in late 2015, when it began covering Trump rallies live, at a time when some of the media still saw the New York celebrity businessman as a longshot presidential contender. The network continues to shower Trump with attention and often provides a friendly platform for his Republican allies.
As president, Trump frequently urged supporters to watch OAN. In his final two years in office, Trump touted the network, known as @OANN online, to his 88 million Twitter followers at least 120 times.
“Hope everybody is watching @OANN right now,” Trump tweeted on December 1, citing a dubious report about a truck carrying more than 100,000 fake ballots. “Other media afraid to show.”
The state and federal court documents reviewed by Reuters detail a lucrative relationship for OAN with AT&T, even as the two occasionally tangled in court.
The records include a reported offer by AT&T to acquire a 5% equity stake in OAN and AWE, though the two sides ultimately signed a different deal. The court filings also cite a promise by OAN to “cast a positive light” on AT&T during newscasts.
The confidential OAN financial records are drawn in part from testimony, including by Herring and the accountant, generated during a labor lawsuit brought against OAN by a former employee and unrelated to AT&T. When that case went to trial last year, the network’s lawyer told the jury that AT&T was keeping OAN afloat.
“If Herring Networks, for instance, was to lose or not be renewed on DirecTV, the company would go out of business tomorrow,” OAN lawyer Patrick Nellies told the court, a transcript shows.
Researchers who tracked the rise of conservative media pillars Rush Limbaugh and Fox News see similarities between those pioneers to One America News and other new rightwing networks, particularly during their formative years.
Kathleen Hall Jamieson, director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, said the births of Fox News and OAN share common threads: money and opportunity. She noted that the late Republican operative Roger Ailes had the foresight in the 1990s to recommend that Fox create a conservative news network.

Only The Good Die Young ↠ Self Para
WHEN: Tuesday, September 17, 2019 WHERE: The side of I-40 WHO: Featuring Bailey Kingston, Easton McIntyre, and Detective Hector Chavez of the Albuquerque Police Department TW: Death, Overdose
“Hello?” The blonde said into the phone on the last ring before her voicemail would have kicked in, having barely heard it over the sound of the music blaring through her truck’s speakers. “Hello?” She said again once the music was turned down and she was able to hear. “Hello, can you hear me?” The gruff, unfamiliar voice filled her ear as she pulled the phone away to glance at it, an area code she didn’t recognize but her phone was telling her was from Albuquerque, New Mexico. “Yes, hi. I’m so sorry, darlin’. Had the music a little too loud. How can I help you?” She asked once she brought the phone back up to her ear, brows furrowed in slight confusion. She didn’t know anyone in New Mexico, but the ranch had guests and investors from all over the country. It could have been one of them, maybe, so she paid close attention as she awaited the man’s answer.
“That’s alright.” The voice replied, a tinge of exhaustion evident in the sigh that followed his words. “Is this, uh...” She could hear some shuffling of papers before he continued, “Greer Kingston?” Nodding her head even though she couldn’t be seen, Greer waited a beat for him to continue before she realized she had to respond verbally. “Yes. Yes, sorry. I’m Greer Kingston.” Turning off of the dirt road from the ranch and onto the highway, the blonde waived at her mother with a smile as she accelerated. “How can I help you?”
“Yes ma’am, my name is Detective Chavez with the Albuquerque Police Department. Are you related to a Bailey Kingston? Date of birth, uh...” More paper shuffling. Greer could hear her heart beating in her ears as she waited, hands gripping the steering wheel so tight that her knuckles turned white, praying the birthday he’d find wasn’t May 18, 1996. No matter the circumstances, the fact that no one in the family had heard from Bailey for three months and a detective from another state was calling her, couldn’t be good. Instantly, her mind went through various scenarios, each worse than the one before it. “May 18, 1996?” She asked, swallowing down the lump that had formed quickly in her throat. More shuffling. “Yes, 5/18/96.” He said finally, the papers stilling. “Yes sir, she’s my baby sister...” Taking in a deep breath, Greer continued on. “Is she alright? Did she get herself into some trouble down there?”
Her question was followed by a pause that seemed to last an hour, Greer’s gaze focused intently on the road ahead of her as she drove. “Ma’am, I’m sorry to have to tell you this, but your sister...” He swallowed, a poignant pause hanging between the two lines for barely a second before he continued, “She’s dead.”
Dead. As soon as the words left the detective’s lips it was as if all the air had been sucked out of Greer’s lungs. She couldn’t speak, couldn’t breathe, and she pulled over on the side of the highway. Surely he couldn’t have said what she thought he said. Bailey couldn't be... no, she was only 23. Sure, she had her demons but this was Bailey. The little girl was practically indestructible. “Ma’am?” His voice broke her out of her thoughts as she cleared her throat. “Yes.” She said quietly, her voice filled with an emotion she’d never heard in it before. “I’m still here. Did...” Pausing, Greer sucked in a deep breath but it didn’t give her any relief. “I’m sorry did you say she’s dead? That’s... that’s impossible.”
“Yes ma’am, I’m sorry. She uh, she was dropped off at a hospital last night in cardiac arrest. Unfortunately, by the time she’d gotten there she’d already had two doses of Narcan and had fallen unresponsive. They couldn’t revive her... you were the emergency contact in her phone.” She hadn’t realized it, but her foot had slipped off of the break and she’d been slowly coasting down the shoulder as Detective Chavez spoke. “Narcan?” She asked, her mind racing as tears welled up in her eyes. “Did she- did she overdose?” The question left her trembling lips as the truck drifted closer to the irrigation ditch on the right. “Yes ma’am.” Came the deep reply, “Accordin’ to the tox screen it was heroin.”
Every word spoken by the stranger felt like a knife being plunged deep into her heart over and over again. “Okay.” She replied shakily, her heavy breaths filling the silence of the cab. The truck rolled over a rather large log, causing it to lurch, which startled Greer back to her reality. “Shit!” She muttered, foot slamming on the break before she threw the car in park. “Ma’am?” “Yeah, sorry. Sorry... I--” She was blinking back tears furiously as the lump in her throat grew and the weight in her stomach anchored her to the seat. “What do you need from us? What do I have to do?” She found herself asking, her brain going into an autopilot mode she didn’t realize she had. “Well, right now she’s in our city morgue. You’ll need to make arrangements for her, you can contact the Medical Examiner at 505-541-3585 to set all of that up. There’s an investigation that’s been opened up... we’re tryin’ to track down the friend who dropped her off to see if we can find out more about what happened with her. But what I’m gonna do is I’m gonna let you get your bearings about ya and I’ll text you my name and number and the police report number and we can go from there. How’s that sound?”
“That’s just fine, Detective Chavez. I’ll keep an eye out for your text and I’ll get in touch with you tomorrow if that’s alright... I have to go tell my mama and my daddy.” She tried to keep her voice as steady as possible as she spoke, but the weight of the news was quickly crashing down on her and she wasn’t sure how much longer she’d be able to have this conversation. The reality of the situation was hitting her hard, like a freight train right into her gut, and it was making it harder and harder for the blonde to focus. “Yes ma’am. Tomorrow will be just fine.”
“Alright, thank you. You have a nice day, now.” She hung up the phone without waiting for a response and set it down in the seat next to her, both hands now gripping the steering wheel tightly as she stared straight ahead. She sat there like that, her breathing becoming more labored as her eyes fixed on the seemingly never ending road ahead of her, for what felt like hours until finally Greer Kingston broke. A loud, unearthly wail left her lips as her shoulders sagged and her head hung, sobs echoing off of her ribs as a mixture of grief, guilt and anger spilled out of her. Every single thing she’d feared since Bailey’s fight with their mother and subsequent radio silence four months ago had come true in the span of a ten minute phone call and she could feel it. Every last horrible inch of it. It was worse than she could ever have imagined, worse than any pain she’d ever felt, and it was vast. A black hole that had opened up and sucked her inside, causing her heart to shatter into a billion pieces and her body to ache in a way she hadn’t ever known to be possible.
And there she sat, on the side of I-40, sobbing until there was nothing left in her. She didn’t know for how long, but when she was finally able to catch her breath and it seemed as if all she’d run out of tears to cry, Greer lifted her head and saw the sun setting out of her passenger’s side window. The amber glow illuminated the inside of the cab and with a shaky breath, Greer wiped her cheeks with the back of her hands. She had to get off of the side of the road. She had to go home and tell her family... she had to break the news to them. She had to be strong. But as she put the truck in drive, Easton’s voice echoed in her ears. ‘Auntie Greer, when is my mommy coming to get me?’ And the tears came again, her right foot stomping on the gas as the back tires spun before gaining traction and the truck took off, but instead of heading home Greer was heading towards town.

-- @unosbichotes (Greer)!
“Alright man, I’m gonna give you a story I ain’t told nobody. Not your brother, not even my mama got to hear this.” No, Greer won’t be treated to one of Louis’ tales of meeting Lucifer in a vacant parking lot at 3 AM. At the bottom line, those stories aren’t special whatsoever. All it takes is the right amount of liquor for Louis to dress them up and make it all seem as though this is the very first time he’s ever made the confession.
“There’s this casino I use to like to pop up at over in Pennsylvania. It’s about a three hour drive, and before I became the upstanding business man you see before you, I use to make the habit to head over that way about, twice - three times a week.” He could spare being gone about eight hours a night, didn’t even have to tell his mother where he was.
“So one night, on the way home I saw this hitchhiker. And no, I’m not about to tell you I had felt this need to slow up. On the real, I was driving, chillin’, but then my engine went out. I’m standing out in East Bumfuck, Pennsylvania trying to see if I can get a tow truck out there - and more than that, a signal on my damn phone, when I see this hick walking up to me like: hey brother, out of luck?”
“Now, you know as black men, we have a 6th sense. We just don’t talk to scruffy white dudes at 1 AM in the middle of fuckin’ nowhere. So I’m thinkin’ to myself - while trying to play it cool - if he tries something...am I going to have the time to get the gun I have in the glove box? I thought I could. So, we’re having this half-hearted conversation about our respective situations, and he suggests we hitch a ride together to the next city over. When I say, ‘that’s not going to work’ I’m suddenly feeling this knife at my throat! He’s gonna slit my throat for thinkin’ I’m high and mighty! We’re struggling like, three minutes tops, before I disarmed him and run. I wasn’t thinking about that fucking gun I had.”
“And I don’t know where the fuck I’m goin,’ man. I’m just running straight ahead like the moon is going to take me somewhere. And I know, I know I’m hearing his footsteps behind me - then I fall, ‘cause of course I did,” a shrug, “when I look back to see what’s waiting for me, I don’t see nobody there. Nobody. It’s just me in this great, big empty field with the moon. I walk back to my car, even slept in my car, didn’t nobody bother me.”
“But I’ll tell you one thing,” he smacks his lips, “I sure as hell ain’t left the city since.”
