Apparently EU citizens can apply for British citizenship after getting settled status... but for some reason I doubt it would really be that easy... I bet they'll come up with some bullshit again and change the rules last moment... Also what use is there staying in a country that's in a horrific crisis after leaving the EU and the coronavirus pandemic...

British people arent human just saw a bunch violently arguing and kind of harassing a young american schoolteacher for using PEMDAS. which is. the acronym for it we use here. no apparently there its called BODMAS and when you imply that people in different countries use different words for things boy do they get angry!! tell you what get some astronauts. this wont let you weigh in on what children are taught in their country that isnt yours anymore because you couldnt handle a little tar and feathering but i think itd be better for your pr than this shit.
#emergency broadcast system#like they get so aggressive when people use different words...#i experience this a lot irl and have for years and seeing it online too really confirms like WOW yall need to chill#mutuals i have in britain or have lived there i know yallre normal dont worry unless youre not then you need to tell me

So this was at an Aldi’s
Awhile ago, a woman was asking for a quarter to get a cart. I searched my bag for a spare, turns out I have it, then I gave it to her.
It was no biggie.
So on a different Aldi’s trip more recently, Mom finds out about this, but she was mattering with the theme of “Whay the hell?? Why’d you do that?? Did you get a cart back?” And I’m like “??? Wtf does that even mean???” But Mom says that NO, I’m not SUPPOSED to help strangers get a cart when they can’t alone but I can. I’m allegedly SUPPOSED TO get something in return.
And I doubt that I’ll forget this anytime soon.
Cuz woooow, how DARE I be nice to people! /s
#This was similar to the pounds thing#I had a five-pound bill on my trip to Britain like last year or so and I saw a homeless person asking for money#Since I calculated that I probably wasn’t gonna use it anyway today I gave the old lady the bill#I hurrahed to myself because I possibly gave her an extra day to live!#But my parents threw a fit about it even though I explained my reasoning

Mother Ludlam's Hole, near Farnham, by Samuel Hieronymus Grimm, Great Britain, 1781.
#Mother Ludlam's Hole#Mother Ludlam's Cave#according to legend a white witch used to live in the cave#also the monks of Waverley Abbey used the spring in the cave as a water source#by the 1820s it was in a state of neglect and the roof caved in back in the 1960s or 70s which is unfortunate#from photos it seems it's not completely buried but there's a big pile of dirt and sand and rock#sandstone#wey valley#moor park#farnham#surrey#england#britain#europe#caves#places#natural springs#Samuel Hieronymus Grimm#1780s#18th century#Georgian era#watercolour#paintings

I really do wonder how much the fact that all the Americans we meet outside the US had the money for a holiday many of us couldn't ever afford in reverse leads to misunderstandings in the 'americans getting touchy about their bad reputation' discourse
#i meam there's an infamous class disparity between the Britain you'd observe from outside via media and tourists and real life#do you KNOW how many of the Famous British Actors old and young are practically aristocrats?#ghost.post#i know there's a divide in my head between Movie People (with the Lives in the Screen Accent) and americans like you talk to online#vs the horrible loud inane cheery things that talk with the screen accent and do tourism#maybe I'm being too generous though i know a lot of tumblr people are white middle class#and 'middle class' ranges to a lot higher in income in the us

#category five american moment#saw a post that was like 'it is absolutely SHOCKING that england has no predators. the british are barbaric for having hunted them out'#like. okay????#a tiny island with a big population and a whole lot more history than america has no wolves. big deal#like what are we supposed to do about it? die?#plus britain's been around a lot longer than the US and is a lot smaller. there's only so many places we can live man#would u have preferred it if we let the big bad wolves kill us all and run rampant across the entire country?#an american really assigning a moral value to another country's history is INSANELY funny to me#like babygirl. look at your own country first

Reading The Berlin Stories rn.
The way I have to double take so many times for different things because what do you mean Salvation Army was involved with the Nazis????
Yes, the same organization that rings bells around Christmas time for donations. The same on that has thrift stores. It’s complicated y’all…
#I live in a very Jewish town so I thought I knew a lot about ww2 but#apparently not#I mean I know enough but the Salvation Army thing and#the German transcripts about how Britain used German soldiers to fight the USA during the revolutionary war#I had to look up to understand#we read things like Night and watched things like Schindler’s List#(in school)#so these specifics I did not know.#it really… makes me understand my English and Social Studies teachers more now#they have been worrying and lowkey warning us for the past 7+ years#(to the best of their ability bc we were kids)#cat rambles#live reaction#reading#live the berlin stories reaction#the berlin stories

#reminder im british-indian#(which is just the term at least my family uses to mean indian immigrants living in Britain)#im..2nd generation?

every day i am ashamed to be british. my country is beautiful and i could never belong anywhere else but being represented by this government is ruining me. british actions both past and present are a horrific stain on this country and i will never forgive our genocide-enabling government for its inaction
#we truly are america’s little bitch and i hate it#one day we the people will look back on this and feel nothing but hatred and shame#the same way we look back on britain’s past crimes now.#i can’t speak for the other countries in the islands but as an english person#our people are so wonderful and diverse#and i’m so proud of the english people who have been speaking up for injustice in the world#the government may push us down but there are more of us than them#just because our government is happy to be complicit doesn’t mean we the people are#long live the people and FUCK the government

what is it with ya dystopian future novels and the trope of turning north america into an array of nondescript kingdoms/nations that are isolated from the outside world
#seriously so many ya novels describe this occasionally neat sounding world of kingdoms and stuff#and then i look at the map and its Just The United States. like most of the time they don't even bother to include canada or mexico#its like. did you just use that as a map because its easy and takes barely any work#did you just use that because you can't consider the concept of society past your nearest walmart and immediate friend circle#it feels so lazy#some authors actually do put thought into it and make it work well and i appreciate those#but so many of them are like 'yea i live in this country so I'm turning Only It into a whimsical land' ok#I've seen british authors do this too with britain ngl#so it's not just a US problem but i see a lot more of specifically US bc of population proportion and also i Live There

Smth smth thinking about reader being an escaped shifter experiment, escaped from the US to hide in Britain
You try to act like a normal civilian, but the urge to shift is building to be intolerable. So why fight it? It's easier to live as a cat anyway, maybe someone could take you in.
What you didn't expect was for 4 giant, bulky, military men to find you. They'd found you in an alleyway near a fish restaurant, searching for scraps. The one wearing the weird mask had been the one to pick you up.
Then, the other 3 rushed over after hearing your yowling. The damn masked bastard had you scruffed!
"I found a cat."
Wow. Brilliant observation.
"Simon, it's a stray."
"I was a stray."
There was a snort, "C'mon Cap, it's kinda cute, isn't it?"
You hiss indignantly, you were not an it! The one with a mohawk reaches out to you, letting you sniff his fingers.
"We do not need a cat, Soap don't touch it. Who knows what it has."
"It's too clean to be a stray, ah doubt it's a stray. Give 'er here, LT."
The masked man hands you over, and you're quick to scramble onto the mohawk man's shoulder, wrapping around his neck. You growl a little in your displeasure, but don't swat.
"See! Docile, little thing, aren't ya!"

For whatever it actually means, the U.S. Censes Bureau in a 2022 study says the number of U.S. children living with two parents has dropped since 1968. Fifty years ago 85% of children under 18 lived with two parents, but by 2020 it had fallen to 70%. The report also found that the number of children living only with their mother has doubled since 1968. The findings coincide with a significant drop in marriage rates in the U.S., making the country having the world's highest rate of children living in single-parent households.
#US children#less two parent households#mother only households has doubled since 1968#US families have changed#two parent homes has fallen to 70%#marriage rates in the US are dropping#living arrangements can affect children's outcomes#US has the world's highest rates of single-parent households#in Britain less then half of households have two parent homes
