Spain PM aims to ban non-EU citizens from buying homes
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will propose a ban on non-European Union citizens buying homes in the country as part of a wider attempt to combat the housing shortage.
Sánchez said on Monday:
“The government will propose to ban non-EU foreigners from buying homes in our country if they and their family members do not reside in Spain and therefore engage in speculation.”
He also noted that in 2023 non-EU buyers bought in the country 23 thousand properties. At the same time Spain is experiencing a shortage of 200 thousand new homes annually.
Shortly before the Minister has already put forward a similar proposal, but then it was only about limiting the sale of housing by foreigners by introducing a hundred per cent tax on such transactions. Each of these measures must be approved by Parliament before they can take effect. Sánchez heads a minority government and his proposals have been rejected several times in recent months.
Financial Times reported that mainly property in Spain are purchased by the British, followed by Moroccans. Citizens of the United States, Mexico and Venezuela are also interested in property in Spain.
Last week, Asssociated Press with reference to a source wrote that the Spanish Government is going to introduce a 100 per cent tax on the cost of real estate purchased by citizens of countries that are not part of the European Union.

Apparently EU citizens can apply for British citizenship after getting settled status... but for some reason I doubt it would really be that easy... I bet they'll come up with some bullshit again and change the rules last moment... Also what use is there staying in a country that's in a horrific crisis after leaving the EU and the coronavirus pandemic...

Sign this European Citizens' Initiative for a fairer, more sustainable world.
We want a European wealth tax to finance the social and climate transition and help countries hit by climate change.
We need 1 million signatures in Europe to force the European Commission to make a proposal.
At the moment these countries are the closest to reaching the needed amount of signatures: Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Slovenia.

Tbh I feel like going to the US while the Nazis are in power is suicidal. So of course I don't understand your choice of going instead of your SO coming to Europe. But while I don't understand, I wish and pray for you to be safe. Whatever you choose, I hope you guys will be okay
You might be right. I have no idea what the future has in store or if I'll come to regret it. But I've already stated my reasons. As it stands, with the year-long process we've already started and that we can't just flip on a dime overnight, my partner can't come and stay in Europe legally just like that. Legal immigration is not that easy in one way or the other. Also... Yeah, I've stated that before, but one shouldn't underestimate how shitty things have been getting in Europe for the past few years as well, and how the influence of the US (which is huge) is likely to make things worse. So again I'm not 100% sure whether that'd have been better anyway.
Also also... Ima be real, I've shared that before, but the time where I was separated from my partner due to the travel ban was the only time in my life where I had actual suicidal ideation. I don't want this to happen again. That's why I'm making moves so it doesn't, first and foremost.
#tw sui ideation#tw sui talk#again i can't just pick and choose it's actually a really tough process and not just something i can go willy nilly about#it's a bit of a headache having people telling me otherwise#i'll do what i can and we'll keep doing our best to stay safe but it's not like i can just switch roads overnight#i wish i could but it's never as simple#or maybe it is for people who are already us citizens i have no idea#but i'm not quite sure#either way tbh i'm not sure moving to europe as so many people are throwing in online rn is that great a solution either#europe is the us's playground and geopolitically its bitch#some things definitely are better than in the us but in a world where money rules everything i don't feel it's quite as fool proof#as everyone makes it sound#as someone who was born and raised there respectfully#who's felt that influence for life#and btw as someone who also grew up not speaking english and who had to painstakingly learn#don't think you can just move to a random country you can't speak the language of and that everyone will be as nice about it#as if you were a tourist#language is important#my partner doesn't speak my country's language#so yep there's that#i've already said that several times anyway it's getting tiresome#we COULD have tried for the UK in a timeline where those dumbasses didn't choose to leave the EU#but that ship sailed almost 10 years ago#i wonder if anyone realizes that#sorry for saying that after such a wall of text but thank you for the concern though sincerely

How is this nigga studying law behind bars?? 😭🤦🤦my guy ain’t finna represent no one LMAO /j but also /srs
SAME QUESTION. Very "I'm bored as hell and I don't wanna work like the rest 😠" of him. And at the University of Latvia. Wow, okay, fancy pants "rich" McGee over here. 🙄 Serious answer & context. Anoufriev in a report to NTV's infoshow "Правда Гурнова" (True Gurnov) (released on February 10th, 2017): "I'm studying, uuuh, law at the University of Latvia. Well, that's the most important, what else right now. Need to find something to do, man, not getting into a noose... after all." Why? Because apparently, after 25 years, he can hope for parole (and in 2014, he said that his family was taking various measures to get him released on parole, but he wasn't counting on it (but maybe he became more hopeful)).
But there's another interview. In 2017, the crew of the TV program "Честный детектив" (Honest detective) also interviewed Artyom. I'll translate it one day, because it's SO BAD. LITERALLY the most SHAMELESS gaslight, gatekeep, mansplain, manipulate. It's not even funny, it's kinda scary. But I respect the grind. 🔥 I wonder if he really thinks that someone will believe what he's saying, or is he just trolling people with a straight face? He wasn't very fond of journalists in 2014, and he said he would only talk to members of the press if he was paid for it. Maybe it was him being a bitch and saying crap on purpose again, just not giving them the information they came for. Don't know what's worse: this or the possibility of him ACTUALLY trying to gaslight and convince everyone (and maybe himself too) that it was all a mistake. Imagine saying the dumbest and craziest shit with the most unflappable face and in the flattest tone. You're either very mentally ill or a very good actor. UPD. In another interview, he says something completely different about where he studies. He's taking a correspondence course at a branch of some philological university. So yeah, the law school was bullshit (yeah, the law school for a lifelong convicted murderer and (allegedly) former Neo-Nazi, SUUUURE), this is at least believable. But still take everything he says with a grain of salt.

I'm catching up on all the drama from Thor Piratesoftware (a game developer) having an awful take on the stopkillinggames.com initiative. Like this is a legit quote, he's not being sarcastic: "Of course we keep your money. Because you bought the experience, you experienced it, and then the game is over. And eventually the community dies, and we turn the servers off." And then what, you take it away from me so you can sell me the next game?
Like imagine having 2.14 million subscribers with the focus on supporting them in indie game development and having such an anti-consumer perspective.
And Ross, who's piloting this initiative, reaches out to him to try entering a discussion, and Thor is just like 'No, because you misrepresented how this initiative could feasibly actually become law.' ??? Not anything to do with the actual contents of the initiative itself? Wow

Hey, if you live in the EU the association ACT LGBT has launch an European citizens' initiative to call the European Commission to propose a binding legal ban on conversion practices targeting LGBTQ+ citizens in the European Union. This is a official channel, not a simple petition and in the context of far right progress in the world, an important opportunity to fight back. So if you live in a EU member country, sign and share the link to your friends and family. To be successful, a European citizens' initiative has to reach one million statements of support as well as minimum thresholds in at least 7 countries.
Finland, France and Ireland have reach the number of signatures needed but you still can sign if you live there. Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Slovenia are on the good track, Italy Germany, Sweden have a lot of efforts to do, so get on it and make this happen !

European Citizens' Initiative
We want a European wealth tax to finance the social and climate transition and help countries hit by climate change.
The present citizens' initiative calls on the European Commission to introduce a European tax on excess wealth. This tax would constitute a new own resource of the Union, the revenue of which would make it possible to increase and sustain the European environmental and social transition policies and development cooperation with joint financing by the Member States. This contribution would contribute to both the fight against climate change and the fight against inequality and would ensure that European citizens share the costs of these objectives.

I try my best not to bring up political issues here, considering that it is a topic that can quickly escalate and it's not this blog's focus. However, I excepcionally feel the need to address this issue today given the circumstances in which we live in our present time.
Since I gained the right to vote, I strongly believe that the next European elections on June 9th are the most important ever. It's not just about funds. It is, above all, the safety of all of us, millions of people spread across the old continent. To affirm and continue to defend human rights that so many people gave their lives and fought for. That we can be who we are. To be sovereign.
I'm worried about the unconsciousness of some people who do not intend to spare even 15 minutes to go to a polling station and vote even though they know the chaos the world is in. Knowing that hatred, discrimination, violence and misinformation increasingly divide society and that a certain ideology that I thought would never return to the surface is once again gaining strength and lurking for the best opportunity to achieve power. We must look to History as lessons so as not to repeat mistakes made in the past in the future. Freedom cannot be taken for granted.
So I'll be very straightforward:
There were so many people who fought for democracy and the right to vote and I think it's disrespectful towards our ancestors (reinforcement: women) and towards younger generations (and future ones) who don't intend to vote because they think it doesn't make a difference. It does.
Or they won't vote because they won't be in their area of residence (and it's not for work reasons). At least on my country's case this time it is possible to vote anywhere in the national territory thanks to the digital system that will be applied to the electorate's books.
Or because "it's annoying". Voting only takes 15 minutes, not 15 hours of your day.
Please be civil and go vote this Sunday if you're a EU citizen with legal age to vote. Voting is an act of citizenship. Don't let others decide your future and your rights for you. Think about your siblings, children, grandchildren, partners, everyone you have in your life and care about. There are no excuses.
THERE. ARE. NO. EXCUSES.

The EU wants every member state to develop a 72-hour survival kit for citizens to face any new crisis that might emerge as part of its Preparedness Union Strategy which also calls for more stockpiling of essential supplies and for improved civilian-military cooperation. The strategy unveiled on Wednesday by the European Commission includes a list of 30 concrete actions it says EU member states need to take to boost their preparedness against potential future crises ranging from natural disasters and industrial accidents to attacks by malicious actors in the cyber or military domains. "In the EU we must think different, because the threats are different, we must think bigger because the threats are bigger too," Hadja Lahbib, the Commissioner for humanitarian aid and crisis management, told reporters. Roxana Mînzatu, the Commission for preparedness, speaking alongside her, added that the bloc is "not starting from scratch". "The COVID pandemic has shown that the added value of acting together in solidarity in coordination, in the European Union framework is absolutely crucial, This is what makes us more efficient, makes us stronger," she said. One of the key areas identified is the need to enhance population preparedness with the Commission urging member states to ensure citizens have an emergency kit that allows them to be self-sufficient for a minimum of 72 hours in the event they are cut off from essential supplies. Several member states already have such guidelines with varying timeframes. France, for instance, calls for a 72-hour survival kit that includes food, water, medicines, a portable radio, a flashlight, spare batteries, chargers, cash, copies of important documents including medical prescriptions, spare keys, warm clothes and basic tools such as utility knives. The Commission's plan aims to harmonise guidelines across the 27 member states in order to make sure that "everyone, at different levels have, to put it this way, a manual of what to do when the sirens go off," said a senior EU official, speaking on condition of anonymity. "The level of preparedness across the Union, across different member states is very different. Preparedness is definitely understood in different ways across member states," the same official added.

My application for Polish citizenship is finally going to the head of the office for final approval so unless something crazy happens I should be getting my citizenship soon(ish)! It’s been years of independent research and tracking down documents and ship manifestos and death records from the camps and being told by Poland that no, Nazi documentation doesn’t count no matter how detailed, and literally hiring lawyers in Poland to help with the process, and I’m finally at the last step.
