"USA GP (19th Race): 2nd place (Circuit of The Americas) – 'I'm very, very happy for the team to win a third Constructors'. It’s been a tough year so far and they have been pushing incredibly hard; they deserve to win, as we have been the best team. Obviously Mark and I were pushing throughout the year. It was a shame for Mark not to finish today. It was a very good race and we did everything we could, but unfortunately we ran into traffic at the wrong time and lost the gap to Lewis. He used his chance well, I tried to cover the inside but he had more speed down the straight. I respect the positions; Lewis beat us fair and square. We showed we had the pace today and now it's full steam ahead to the next race.'" - january 2, 2025 📷 @.sebastianvettel / instagram

Still waiting for Spotify and YouTube to update their charts later today but Google has already come through with some beautiful data for a certain eclipse themed song we all know and love during the total solar eclipse we had in the USA on Monday, April 8, 2024...
https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=now%201-d&geo=US&q=%2Fg%2F1q5jzj36p,%2Fg%2F1q5j2__98,%2Fg%2F11bzvv1522,%2Fm%2F01qdc_p&hl=en
Look at the time of peak searches. And also note the path of searches on the map...
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Map - http://www.nationaleclipse.com
So then I decided to compare with a few top eclipse anthem contenders to see who won the battle. Bonnie blew them all away.
Dark Side of the Moon came in #2 in comparison, followed by #3 Black Hole Sun and #4 Here Comes the Sun. None of them really dominated any city on the map over Bonnie.
Tumblr media
Other potential eclipse anthems I checked that rated lower than the Beatles to the 4 listed above: Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel, Steal My Sunshine by Len, Total Eclipse by Iron Maiden, Dark of the Sun by Tom Petty, Promises in the Dark by Pat Benetar, Dancing in the Dark by Bruce Springsteen, Blinded by the Light cover by Bruce Springsteen (would be #5, this version was also more popular than the Manfred Mann's Earth Band version), Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone by Bill Withers and the individual song Eclipse by Pink Floyd specifically (the album ranked higher). I'm sure I'm missing some but these were at the top of multiple eclipse themed playlists I consulted.
I'm also not sure exactly how many searches this graph corresponds to yet, but I'm sure we'll get recap articles that might have numbers. From a different Google data product, it looks like over 200k searches were done for Total Eclipse of the Heart on Sunday, April 7th alone, the day before (still less than "how to make eclipse glasses" LOL).
Looking forward to Spotify's data. 🌞
Tumblr media
Also fun to look at: comparing searches for this song over time with total US eclipses. Possible spikes due to eclipse interest would be 2012 (annular) and 2017 (total) but the 2023 (annular) barely registered. The other spikes may be due to Bonnie performing it on TV (2005) and the TV show Glee covering it (2010).
Tumblr media
I'll look at this more later.
But just for fun too, if you've never seen it, check out the Literal lyrics version for the original music video (it was insane, even for the 80's) https://youtu.be/fsgWUq0fdKk?si=CRXE_Zd86GpZa1yG

An earlier ad for Sibenik tourism
How things change:
Source: Like Sibenik 2020
Hello everyone, everywhere it's Sunday. My response to the "Garcy Olympics" challenge is up on AO3, it's just a short little piece.
Summary:AU: A special trip for Flynn and Lucy to the 2012 Olympics in England. A chance meeting for her with the “Greatest.Of.All.Time.”
Tumblr media
Seems like someone is really happy with that news!
In the current Olympics, Donna Vekic of Croatia sadly lost to her opponent in the finals of the women's single tennis.
Once again, a positive overflow of goodies in the latest update from gv-archive.com
Hello everyone, everywhere, another day another lot of Goran! Hope your day goes as you would wish it to.

CELEBRATING 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIP HOP, THE MUSEUM AT FIT PRESENTS FRESH, FLY, AND FABULOUS: FIFTY YEARS OF HIP HOP STYLE
The Museum at FIT (MFIT) presents Fresh, Fly, and Fabulous: Fifty Years of Hip Hop Style, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the birth of hip hop. The largest and most comprehensive exhibition to explore this revolutionary and influential style, this also marks the first time that the museum examines fashion exclusively through one musical genre. Over 100 garments and accessories capture the pivotal moments in hip hop fashion’s evolution, ranging from Kangol hats to custom Dapper Dan jackets and the Manolo Blahnik Okla Alta booties inspired by Timberland work boots. The exhibition is curated by Elena Romero, journalist and assistant chair of Marketing Communications at FIT, and Elizabeth Way, associate curator of costume at MFIT. Romero is the author of “Freestylin’: How Hip Hop Changed the Fashion Industry (2012).”
“It was important for The Museum at FIT to organize this exhibition, because hip hop—the most influential music genre of our era—has had such a profound impact on the world of fashion,” notes Dr. Valerie Steele, director and chief curator, MFIT. “Furthermore, hip hop fashion and music are cultural expressions of the African and Hispanic cultural diasporas, which MFIT seeks to amplify as part of our goal to expand the understanding of fashion.”
Visitors will see looks worn and made popular by artists Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, LL Cool J, Chuck D, Missy Elliot, Aaliyah, Khaled, and Cardi B, to name just a few. Fresh, Fly and Fabulous will also feature designs by 5001 Flavors, April Walker, Misa Hylton, Cross Colours, Karl Kani, Shirt King Phade of the Shirt Kings, FUBU, Rocawear, Wu Wear, Mecca USA, Baby Phat, Pelle Pelle, and Sean John, as well as Lee, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Versace, among many others.
A digital guide for Fresh, Fly and Fabulous: 50 Years of Hip Hop Style can be found at Bloomberg Connects, the free arts and cultural app created by Bloomberg Philanthropies. The Bloomberg Connects app, available for download from Google Play or the App Store, makes The Museum at FIT accessible for either onsite or offsite visits through photo, audio, and video features offering insights into the world of fashion and design. The digital guide goes behind the scenes of the museum with exclusive multimedia content about designers, exhibitions, programs, and conservation. Visitors can plan their visit, access helpful insights on site, and dive deeper into favorite works at home—anytime, anywhere. Guide highlights include interviews with hip hop experts, designer spotlights, and details about works from our collection, with new content added regularly.
The exhibition is accompanied by a book, Fresh, Fly, and Fabulous: 50 Years of Hip Hop Style, published by Rizzoli with a foreword written by Slick Rick, and a symposium on February 24 that will be free and open to the public.
Fresh, Fly, and Fabulous: Fifty Years of Hip Hop Style has been made possible thanks to the generosity of the Couture Council of The Museum at FIT and The Coby Foundation. Special thanks to Barrett Barrera Projects. The museum is open Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from noon to 8 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 5 pm. Admission is free. All visitors are requested to review the latest safety guidelines and protocols. For more information and the latest MFIT updates, visit fitnyc.edu/museum; register for the MFIT newsletter; and follow the museum on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

'I don't mind': Leighton Meester on Adam Brody's 'Nobody Wants This' kiss at Golden Globes
Anthony Robledo, USA TODAY
Mon, January 6, 2025 at 6:53 p.m. AST·2 min read
Teen TV fans' favorite celebrity couple took on the 2025 Golden Globes together Sunday night to celebrate Adam Brody's nomination for the Netflix rom-com series "Nobody Wants This."
While on the red carpet, "Gossip Girl" star Leighton Meester, 38, spoke about the viral kiss between "The O.C." alum and his costar, Kristen Bell. "I don't mind. It's okay, I like it," Meester told Access Hollywood. "How do I feel about the kiss? I think it's good."
Brody, 45, quickly chimed in to compliment his wife. He quipped that it's his wife that shows him how to nail those intimate scenes in front of the camera.
"She taught me. I mean, you know, she gets the good stuff. That's not even like the A-material," Brody said.
Tumblr media
Adam Brody and Leighton Meester arrive for the 82nd annual Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, California on Jan. 5, 2025.
Internet celebrates couple's red carpet moments
Fans couldn't get enough of the couple's appearance on the carpet.
In a viral video with nearly 9 million views, Brody invites his wife to join him for a photo op without hesitation. "the way she wanted him to have his moment but he wanted her there GOALS," one user wrote.
Tumblr media
A different user wrote that the two are "the nicest couple since the invention of marriage" while another wrote, "oh to be leighton meester being led by the hand through a crowd by adam brody."
The pair revealed their romance back in 2013 and married the next year, according to People. The two share two children, including a daughter born in 2015 and a son born in 2020.
Meester has starred in several films and movies but is arguably best known for portraying ambitious New York socialite Blair Waldorf on "Gossip Girl" from 2007 to 2012.
Brody played the self-deprecating, yet charming California geek Seth Cohen on "The O.C." from 2003 to 2007.
Brody was nominated for a Golden Globe in the best actor in a comedy or musical category for playing newly single rabbi Noah in "Nobody Wants This." The series dropped on Sept. 26 and was renewed for a second season just two weeks later.

Paris Olympics 2024: USA icon Taurasi bows out of Games basketball with sixth gold
Diana Taurasi capped her international career with a sixth Olympic gold medal on Sunday, calling it “truly an honour” to represent the USA and see the growth of the global game. The United States won its record eighth straight gold with a gritty 67-66 victory over host nation France. Taurasi, with gold in 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020 and 2024, surpassed Sue Bird for the most Olympic golds by an…

Debby highlights that a storm's effects go beyond just wind strength: "The real impacts will come from water."
Experts caution that people might mistakenly believe they are safe with lower-category storms.
youtube
Hurricane Debby’s imminent landfall and the potential for up to 30 inches of rain in some Southeast locations vividly demonstrate a challenge meteorologist Barry Goldsmith faced back in 2012.
Goldsmith, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Texas, sought a memorable slogan to help the public understand that the traditional wind category system for hurricanes does not reflect the potential for rainfall or the impact of storm surge. At the 2012 National Hurricane Conference, he introduced the phrase: "There’s more to the story than the category."
Climate and Average Weather Year Round in 15243 - Pittsburgh PA:
weather-15243
flickr
"It's a great message," Brian McNoldy, a senior research scientist at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School, noted on X in July. McNoldy has repeatedly used this phrase to emphasize the critical importance of rain and storm surge.
The message has consistently proven accurate, and it's particularly relevant for Debby. The storm's main threats are expected to be storm surge and heavy rainfall, affecting areas from Florida’s Gulf Coast to Charleston, South Carolina.
"This is another case where the primary impacts will come from water rather than wind," said James Franklin, a retired branch chief of the hurricane specialist unit at the National Hurricane Center. "While the forecast category (borderline 1/2) will be significant for those near and to the right of the landfall point, other areas will experience severe impacts as well."
That said, the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale still has its value, particularly for personal preparation. "A Category 5 involves surge, rain, and wind damage," Franklin posted on X in August, emphasizing that he doesn't agree with the notion that category is irrelevant. "Category is a good indicator of the worst winds you might face."
However, the hurricane categories don't provide the full picture. They don't account for rain, surge, or the storm's forward speed, as noted by experts like Craig Fugate, former director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Experts also caution that people might mistakenly feel secure with lower-category storms, thinking, for example, that it's "just a Cat 1."
Why forward speed matters
Debby's designation won't reflect the potential wall of water up to 10 feet high that could impact the coast along Florida’s Big Bend overnight Sunday and throughout Monday. It also doesn't account for the severe flooding that could result from the anticipated rainfall along Debby's path.
"That's the key question—how much rain will fall and where," Fugate told USA TODAY on Sunday. "According to the current forecast, some areas in Northeast Florida could receive over a foot of rain as the storm progresses." Fugate also highlighted that even higher amounts are anticipated along the coasts of South Carolina and northeast Georgia.

At one point on Sunday, the forecast predicted up to 30 inches of rain for the South Carolina and Georgia coasts. However, by mid-afternoon, the weather service had revised that estimate downward.
A hurricane moving through an area at 20 mph causes less damage compared to a storm that stalls or moves slowly at 8 to 10 mph. A slow-moving storm can also produce significantly more rain than a faster-moving one.
Recent research by hurricane scientists has shown that Atlantic storms seem to be slowing down before making landfall, leading to increased rainfall and flooding problems.
Changing climate: The 2024 hurricane season sets an unusual record due to elevated sea temperatures.
Should the wind scale be revised?
Several researchers have proposed exploring alternative methods to more accurately communicate risks.
Jennifer Collins, a professor at the Geosciences School at the University of South Florida, has co-authored research examining how the public perceives the wind scale versus other proposed options. She contributed to a 2021 paper that suggested a Tropical Cyclone Severity Scale, incorporating wind speeds, rainfall, and storm surge to enhance public understanding of the hazards.
"Debby is another example of how a storm's category doesn’t fully reflect the severity of its impacts," Collins said on Sunday. "I’m particularly concerned about the potential for flooding, especially in areas that have already been affected by previous tropical cyclones."
Collins emphasized the importance of reviewing all the information available on the hurricane center's website.
While wind category reflects the strength of a storm's winds, it provides limited insight into the storm's size or rainfall potential, noted Phil Klotzbach, a senior research scientist at Colorado State University. "We argue that using pressure as a metric might be more effective for categorizing hurricanes."
Pressure better correlates with fatalities and damage and offers an indication of storm size in addition to intensity, Klotzbach said on Sunday.
He also suggested that rainfall should be assessed separately due to the challenges in communicating flood risks, such as those posed by slow-moving or very large storms.

Hurricane Beryl – Initially a Category 5 in the Caribbean, Beryl made landfall on July 8 near Matagorda, Texas, as a Category 1 hurricane. It caused severe flooding with rainfall reaching 13 to 14 inches and left millions without power. A week after the storm, around 300,000 customers in the Houston metro area were still without electricity.
Tropical Storm Allison – In June 2001, Tropical Storm Allison brought devastating flooding to Texas, with Houston receiving up to 40 inches of rain.
Debby in 2012 – Tropical Storm Debby resulted in an estimated $250 million in damages and caused the deaths of eight people.
