Friends, allies, I come to you now with a request. I’m mentoring a young woman applying for scholarships to afford college and there used to be a ton of resource posts floating around tumblr that I can’t seem to locate anymore (or are out of date since I saved them).

Does anyone have current links to posts that compile scholarship opportunities, text book resources, etc? Or links to websites with resources?

I know this is a very broad request, I appreciate all suggestions.

Sherlock Holmes Canon Content Analysis

My Holmie @cinny13 and I ran a content analysis on the Sherlock Holmes Canon, running through each "suspicious" description Watson gives of Holmes's hands. So this means "Holmes clapped his hands" does not apply, however "long thin hands", absolutely does. After gathering all the relevant passages (thanks to the author's personal annotated edition of the Canon), we have quantified the qualitative data.

That Watson may have an obsession with Holmes's hands is obvious. In future when I run over the Canon again I think it would be relevant to compare all of the hand descriptions, with all the rest concerning Holmes's body (e.g. "sinewy neck" or "gaunt limbs").

Anyway, I advocate for using science on the Sherlock Holmes Canon. Never stop being insane because this is what the world truly needs at the end of the day.

so i was thinking (in light of my recent comic) about how xigbar is, in fact, disabled. and how it'd be interesting to explore the consequences of that. so i started looking into what it's like to live with monocular vision, what the challenges are, how to cope with them.

and i noticed something, in one of the articles i read.

and that made something click for me.

there are quite a few differences between the braig and xigbar models. some are more subtle than others. there's one i'd always chalked up to a difference in age or level of activity. but no.

Gotham is a city with a lot of ambient ectoplasm, enough that the Fentons move here instead of Amity Park. Danny being a pretty smart kid being the son of 2 scientists gets a scholarship to Gotham academy where he makes friends with Tim and Damian. Well the 2 were only doing it at first because they wanted to keep an eye on them scientists rarely didn’t become rouges in Batman’s gallery so can you really blame them for being cautious?

Danny is telling them about the portal that they were trying to build and how it wasn’t working and how Danny felt guilty about it. The 3 venture down there when the parents are gone and Danny wearing his hazmat goes into the portal while the other 2 watch on. Danny trips and no one’s having a good time.

They decided to take Danny to Wayne manor until they can figure out what exactly happened to him, unfortunately Danny’s new powers act up and he winds up phasing through the floor into the basement… or more accurately the Bat cave.

I asked this on Bluesky as well, but maybe some of my followers here will be able to help. This is a question for medievalists and Bible people:

I'm currently working on some topics that involve a lot of Biblical refs and I think I need an English translation of the Bible that's closer to the Latin Vulgate these authors would've been using to help me catch the refs. What do you recommend?

(The only Bible currently in my house is a Contemporary English Version and for these purposes it is actively worse than useless. I'm sure it serves a purpose as a translation but... it doesn't serve this one at ALL.) (Not least because I need the apocrypha sometimes and this copy is aggressively Protestant.)
