Yeah there’s gonna be plenty of little details in s5 confirming byler, but there’s one thing in particular that I feel like would be too hilarious to pass up on…
#byler#stranger things#this is so funny to me tho#bc in the show#the first time we hear the Russian code#the subtitles making us familiar with it#starts us at silver cat feeds then says when blue meets yellow in the west#it then circles back to the beginning#the week is long then the silver cat feeds#and just cuts us off#while we dramatically follow Alexei up the stairs and towards the opening gate#it was set up in s3 with a dramatic cut off that was literally pronounced#until we finally got the whole thing later on#but the fact that they created scores with the titles for the first two lines#cutting us off once again at that part#makes you wonder if there was always a plan to ease the tension of that awkward cutoff#a trip to china sounds nice if you tread lightly#always felt like a sort of p.s. to me in the first part of the code#not that it literally is#but the first three lines flow together#like they all rely on each other to occur#the thing about the blue meets yellow in the west is that it’s so many things#its who when and where#the other the rely on it to make any sense#meaning leaving it out at all doesn’t really make any sense#when blue meets yellow in the west score would be insane actually

Yeah. And the reason they're SAYING they want to do it, "Cuz Furrners are SPYING on US CITIZENS!!!" is 1)Pure Undiluted Warmongering about China, and 2)Complete bullshit cuz the consortium they want to SELL IT to, Liberty Strategic Capital, is Funded By Saudi Arabia.
Like: I fail to see how having the most popular social media for USians under 30 owned by Prince Bonesaw instead of ByteDance(and, by extension, partially the CCP since all companies in China must include a CCP oversight board) is SAFER or ~More Patriotic~ or Whatever bullshit line they're pushing on the subject.
And Furthermore, even if they WERE wanting to hand it over to a USian company that company would JUST BE USING IT TO SPY ON THEIR USERS TOO, cuz that's just the business model for social media. And all this is leaving aside the constitutional issue here, which is that passing a law forcing a company to sell itself is A Bill of Attainder, which is prohibited by the US Constitution.
hey since it's coming up again: no it's not a good thing that the government wants to ban tiktok. no you should not be glad that the government might ban tiktok. no you should not respond to this with "good riddance" or "hurry up I hate that app". I should not have to explain this to you but the government banning a social media app is still a bad thing even if you don't like the UI or booktok or having to say "unalive" or how you think it's killing the very notion of attention spans. It's still bad. It's bad.
#toss a coin to your stan account#TikTok#ByteDance#Steven Mnuchin#Liberty Strategic Capital#US Congress#US Politics#Bill of Attainder#US Constitution#Surveillance Capitalism#Our Staff#zA Opinions#zA's Inveterate Politicism#Full Disclosure: I do not use TikTok in part because of its connection to the CCP.#I'm NOT Afraid of them spying on me; I object to their censorship and conservatism#My main reason tho is TikTok has a shitty format#if the CCP wanted to spy on the US they'd just hardwire something into the computer processors they manufacture nearly all of#regardless: forcing a company to sell itself because its Chinese owned is racist and tyrannical and meant to stoke tensions with China#all of which are BAD THINGS#minitagrants#reblog replies#appreciative reblogs

Man... the vast majority of people just uh... do not get geopolitical stuff at all
#I was watching a show that... mhh... I don't know if it used to be good; but it was enjoyable; and then the last season was bad#(like... they forgot how to write it... I... assume some corpo meddling)#anyway; the finale for the whole show thankfully did end up being pretty good despite being mixed in the writing#cause it really did show a lot of respect for the past with the show and brought back a lot of one off characters in ways that worked#but... and this is what the post is about; China had developed a new bunker buster; and someone stole it#and they were gonna use it to start world war 3 (it turns out by... blowing up a damn in russia)#and... a) no one gives a shit about a new bunker buster; like yeah in that situation the US would rather China didn't have it#but the US doesn't like the fact that China's working on hyper sonics; and frankly no one likes anything anyone does#every country's ideal game plan is they get the ultra mega doom weapon and everyone else isn't even allowed sticks#but no one's really gonna care about a bunker buster; and it's unlikely to even be a game changer#between probably expense and... the existence of bunker busters already; and a finite number of hardened targets worth hitting...#just a bunker buster doesn't matter; it really doesn't; neither in terms of starting a war nor in terms of military application#it's like how F-16s have been good for Ukraine; ...whatever the acronym for attackems is good for Ukraine#(sorry; HIMARs and such are easy to remember; but it's like... ATKMs? I'm not looking that up)#but none of them are single handedly winning the war; russia's 'hypersonics' aren't doing shit#systems definitely matter; but you're not going to have one that just totally tips the state of the world#second though... that's not going to start ww3; russia blew up a damn in Ukraine and no one even gave a shit#(it's horrific; to be clear I'm furious at the lack of international response; we should have made it a clear red line on par with a nuke)#(but we didn't; despite the massive ecological devastation it caused; not to mention human lives lost; I'm so so so angry)#but even though the world values russia more... it would raise tensions; and there would be saber rattling but...#sorry; I don't think you could really frame this is something the US did and it would mostly just escalate tensions#just not believable in the slightest#no... what would be very bad is if China ever decides to invade Taiwan; if anything would be the spark it would be that#though even then it's likely to be more localized with US intervention (if our useless asses can even do that)#...that right there is one of the scariest actual... flash point situations on the table#(and the west has totally failed because the best way to make sure that didn't happen would have been overwhelming support to Ukraine)#(send a clear message that invading your neighbor gets your teeth kicked in by the west as they funnel unlimited military aid in)#now hopefully China never does that... but... that's the really scary one#not that there's not a lot of bad all over the world but like...#the middle east... while it has effects everywhere (most of all on the people living through things)

cosy cosy cosy (un-cosy thoughts below)
performing a complex cultural appropriation calculation atm to determine whether i can get away with tatami mats & a shikibuton in my new flat
if the country of one's ancestors was historically subjugated by a major apac power that then suffered due to interwar japan's imperialist ambitions…imo the answer is yes? it's like two (extremely vague and historically contingent) degrees of cultural separation? and i should buy the tatami mat and also some house slippers from muji?
#i'm 80% joking 20% very interested in decentering the us perspective when it comes to cultural appropriation convos#lowkey sick of the phrase “cultural appropriation” at this point#what i am VERY interested in atm though is how china japan and south korea exert cultural influence and soft power within apac#plus histories of non-western imperialism#and i am patiently awaiting the essay where someone addresses their own fascination/fetishization with japanese aesthetics#and a certain level of ambivalence with that fascination#and perhaps the glaring blindspot when it comes to intra-apac political relations and tensions#and how japanese imperialism has been a significant painful part of still-very-recent chinese history and korean history#and yet the awareness of this does not seem to reside alongside discussion of japanese aesthetics#so how can we think about how other asian countries and cultures relate to each OTHER and each other's cultural production and influence?#also (over-intellectualisation aside)#i really am just looking for a cheap (ish) bed#and all the cheap (ish) bedframes look terrible#so naturally i'm like…what if…no bedframe…???

One look at Geopolitics Boys ch. 62 and that's how I knew not to trust the mangaka.
#yes it's a chapter ft. the philippines#his character design is giving elitist college student and i hate it lol#tbh everyone is a typical bishounen so they all come off as flat#and so do their personalities#geopol ph is also a hardcore Christian and it's such an annoying trait#the manga acknowledge the tensions between china and#vietnam and the philippines#i'm not surprised by the us-ph relations#it's jp-ph that got me suspicious#the govt sure likes to milk off of them too#but their embassy was the one who requested the removal of#the statue honoring comfort women#it hasn't been back up since#i haven't read the other chapters so i don't want to call this a review#but the manga does deliver on its premise of gijinka countries as average salarymen#it props up the status quo. nothing more.#The US may be the core of global imperialism but at least his Hetalia incarnation had one of the most fucking heartwrenching arcs#meanwhile geopol US is just a white man cosplaying as a bousouzoku#btw there are more ethical ways of experiencing whalesharks and cebu is just...not that

As Trump threatens a full-scale trade war, will the US be able to compete with China?
Photo by Kaique Rocha on Pexels.com The relationship between the United States and China may experience heightened tension. Some the bombs are made by vault tec(which game was it, I'm not sure, might be fa3 maybe vegas) if I remember correctly and the fact that they were making these "shelters" in the first place suggests a hand in the war in the first place
The Vault Tec base of ops also has a built in shelter that was supposed to protect some the higher ups(none made it, I think it was a board of directors, which honestly if I wanted to make money/no opposition as an owner I too would kill them)
The Chinese sub Captain also had no idea wtf was happening in fa4, which lends in hand in the argument that the nukes were of American origin.
I hate Fallout fans so much you don't even know
#and honestly while the tension was high(red scare shit and what not) china and the US didn't really have much going on(no trye motive) -#to choose the ultimate option of death#but Vault tec had everything to gain if nuclear war happened#which vault tec failed at too#this is what i know of in the matter
