welp, this is probably the only Urzai week thing I'm gonna get out due to workload and burnout, but I wanted to at least do something for Urzai Week. SO here it is :3

The Only Difference Between Medicine and Poison is the Dose

"Then we have an agreement," her husband had said, and the triumph in his eyes had burned with the inner fire that had consumed his spirit. Had she loved him? Was it possible not to love the father of your children in some way? No matter the origin of their union together they'd brought such joy into the world. Ursa poured the powder into the starch she'd use to set it, then added a few drops of cold water and stirred, careful not to touch a single grain. Her questions didn't matter now. Azulon had made his decision, as had Ozai. As had she. All that was left now was to act.

Slowly, oh so slowly, Ursa spooned a few drops of the mixture at a time into one of the teacups and smoothed it gently into the sides. She'd chosen a plain stoneware cup because of its lightly roughened edges. Hardly fit for a royal. After fifteen minutes of careful preparation she set the cup to dry by the fire. Then she went into the kitchen and said the Firelord had asked her to have tea with him.

By the time Ursa returned the cup was dry again. The coating on the inside had turned clear, giving it a little shine. Would he notice the difference? Unlikely. It was only an empty cup.

When Ursa called at her husband's door he was already dressed for bed. "Is it done?" he asked.

"Almost." She held out the cup. "Take this for your evening tea. Serve yourself, and take nothing offered by anyone else. Use no other cups. I want to be sure. For Zuko's sake."

Ozai took the cup. "It is good you are thorough, my wife," he said. "When you come for a dragon it is best that you do not miss. I will not protect you should you be discovered."

"I know." Ursa bowed low and retreated down the hallway.

When you come for a dragon it is best that you do not miss. But Azulon was an old man now. Anything might happen to him. A heart ailment. A fall down the stairs. Quiet death in his sleep. Ozai was the one who was young, and strong. It would be years before he surrendered his throne to either child. Years in which anything might happen. Years in which nothing might change.

Had she loved her husband? Yes, probably. But tonight, Ursa loved her son more.

Urzai Day 2 Ember Island Headcanon - Ursa did not know how to swim when she married Ozai. The first time they went to Ember Island, Ozai took the opportunity to teach her how. Ursa and Ozai then taught Zuko and Azula how to swim at Ember Island.

Urzai week 2024, Day 7: Orders, Happy Fire Family AU with Fire Lady ursa @urzaiweekblog

"Orders! It's always orders!" Ursa yelled as she stormed out of the fire lord's office "Ugh" Ozai yelled, "How did you make mom mad this time?" Zuko said as he walked in with his siblings right behind him. "Your mother wants to go on a vacation as a family..." Ozai said with his head in his hands. "You're gonna cave ether way," Azula said.

5 mouths later~

"Thank you so much for this trip, ozai!" Ursa said, "This is your forth pregnancy it's the least I can do, " Ozai said, "You could have stopped at me!" Kiyi said, "They should have stopped at me!" Zuko said. "You think I wanted any of you?" Ozai said, Ursa laughing said,"Ozai! You can't say that!".

[Yes, I added a kid, well two kids, it's twins, and they will be named sozin and roku, and act like how they did when they were young]

day 6 heat:

Heat day 6

It had been a long day, a very long day of ceremony and celebration, and now she was forced to sit in a certain pose next to her new husband while a royal painter caught the forced ideal scene.

Beside her, the fire prince known as Ozai knelt too in his pose in a practised manner with his hands in his sleeves.

She admired how he could sit so easily and steadily, maybe because he was used to all of this.

Still she closed her eyes, feeling the heaviness of the day overcoming her, or was it something more? She felt hot in the heavy wedding kimono fabrics.

“Are we nearly done, my husband?” Ursa asked, tired.

She knew she wasn't to move, but she wiped her head with her hand, make-up coming from the sweat.

Ozai took note of his new wife, her face flushed, her sweat, and eyed up the painter and stood.

“You will finish this without us.”

Ozai moved toward Ursa and knelt to her and picked her up and assisted her to his room. He yelled orders out, and Ursa barely took them in. She looked to Ozai with tired eyes before she was wiped down and placed into her robes to sleep in. She felt a hand on her head.

“Your burning up, Ursa.”

She knew tonight was meant to be important, but here she was sick. She simply moaned in sickened disbelief; she couldn't talk or reply.

The fever overtook her that night. Ozai made sure she had some medication to cool the heat of her fever. Ursa rested that night, feeling the closeness of Ozai, who tended to her.

She remembered it well; when she awoke from her fever, she saw Ozai overlooking her with concern. The heat gone from her body, she took his hand that morning with a thankful gesture.

Prompt "poison"; @urzaiweekblog

Two the most venomous creatures fighting each other to create the deadliest poison.

The reason the poison is gold; Ozai holds a spidersnake and Ursa holds a scorpio-centipede as a sort of a reference to the concept of "five poisonous creatures" (four of them) and the "gu poison". Spidersnake is a canon animal mentioned in "Zuko Alone" and "The Rise of Kyoshi" (chapter "The Iceberg").

My submission for @urzaiweekblog day 3: Bittersweet

Context and personal thoughts below the cut

The submission is depicting to this scene from the morning after Ursa 'dissapeared', but from Ozai perspective.

I always thought this scene illustrated Ozai did in his heart of hearts, love Ursa. But i also think Ozai was in denial about this, because he told himself lies like love being for fools. So in the version of himself that Ozai likes to think of himself as. The decision to "trade" his wife for the throne was the easiest decision of his life. But i think with Ursa truly gone he now he to struggle (and ultimately fail) to reckon with the truth the he perhaps loved Ursa more than he loved power.

I think Ozai's silence when Zuko asks him where Ursa is, is quite telling. I also think the fountain statue Ozai stares at is quite telling. If we think of the ball the dragon holds with its paw as a globe, than perhaps we can liken the dragon to Ozai himself. If we interpret it this way then Ozai we see looking at himself having all the power in the world at his finger tips and he doesn't look happy about it.

One final point on this: Look at the exact moment Zuko asks: "Where is she [Ursa]." That exact moment Zuko asking that question blocks out the world.

Ursa: There are ways to make the poisonous things not poisonous. As for this seaweed, it needs to be soaked in limewater.

Ursa: *eats it*

Ozai and Zhao: !!!

Ozai: What are you doing?!

Ursa: It's fine. Probably.

Ozai: Probably?!?!

Ursa, holding up a pouch: Don't worry. I have the emetic right here-

Ozai: *Snatches the pouch* That's nothing to be proud of!

Ursa: Hey-

Ozai: Zhao!

Zhao: Right! *picks up Ursa from behind*

Ursa: Wait-

Ozai, shoves the emetic into her mouth: THROW UP!!!!

Ursa: *vomits out poison*

Ursa, disappointed: I was only going to test if a one-night soak would get rid of the poison...

Urzai Day 7 Orders Headcanon - Ozai and Ursa make it a point to never use royal privileges with one another. It doesn’t set up a very healthy marriage. The only time Ursa ordered Ozai around and Ozai listened was while she was pregnant and for the first few years after Zuko and Azula were born (because Ursa genuinely scared him during that time more than anything else).
