Nagisa breaking the hearts of male classmates in 2-4 by being progressive as heck thanks to being comfortable wearing female clothes and acting like a girl while still accepting and loving that he is a boy.

No real changes here. I will say that it is pretty common for the anime to stick to one outfit for a character's appearance while the manga will mix it up. As you can tell, Sakura changed outfits since her appearance earlier. Oh and this trivia is from furinkan.com, but those rice bales are called "kome-dawara" and are 60 kg each. I've heard people complain that Nagisa is stronger than Ryunosuke just from beach sumo, but Takahashi was a sumo fan since childhood and realizes how intense it is. One of her former editors said she'd attend every tournament match if she could. Here's what Takahashi had to say about Nagisa on twitter in 2022.

"The concept for Nagisa was to be Ryunosuke's match. I thought of him as the exact opposite of Ryunosuke and also wanted to portray him properly as a man. I was absolutely certain that he was stronger than Ryunosuke, and I enjoyed thinking about the fighting style of beach-sumo.

Nagisa treated Ryunosuke the most like a girl. A real gentleman."

Urusei Yatsura 2022 reveals new character designs and voice actors for Nagisa Shiowatari and Mr. Shiowatari!!

Nagisa Shiowatari will be played by Ayumu Murase (Chikara Shigeno in "Undead Unluck", Dali in "Dali & Migi" and Ryo Asuka in "Devilman Crybaby").

Mr. Shiowatari will be played by Koichi Sakaguchi (Prince Hata in "Gintama", Cid in "Final Fantasy X" and Akamaru in "Kyoukai no RINNE").

You know, personally, I never liked how Ryuunosuke from Urusei Yatsura’s arc ended, with her in a forced engagement to Nagisa and having not beaten her dad. Granted, she sort of seems to warm up to Nagisa, but it always seemed a bit weird to me that the main Ryuunosuke ship was one forced on her by her dad. It feels like Ryuunosuke’s dad wins in a way if Nagisa and Ryuu get together. Granted, I am a big Ryuunosuke x Benten shipper, so this might just be my bias talking.

There’s a lot that can be said about how much wasted potential there was in Ryu, but teasing us with the idea of her dating multiple women throughout the manga (especially Shinobu, Benten, and Ran) only for the boyish girl to end up with the girlish boy is just so unabashedly Rumic that it’s almost hard for me to be upset with it

Ryunosuke. Just mostly Ryunosuke, haha. I've never actually found her dad's joke of preventing Ryu from getting what she wants funny and it was more irksome than anything, and it sucked cuz Ryunosuke's great! But what's worse is that she never gets a proper resolution about her feminine wants (even though that was the main point of her character in the first place) and it was just dropped and ignored in the end, so it never felt like her character got a true resolution. I feel like a good way to write Ryu would be to keep the relationship with her dad the same for the most of her story. And then in her last few chapters have them talk out and be in proper understanding for once. Shigeru Chiba, Mr. Fujinami's remake voice actor (and Megane in the old anime), states his view on his character in his character comments:

And the idea of Ryu's dad raising Ryunosuke to be male because he doesn't want her to leave him is a great idea!! I'd make it like that's the true reason why he does it and somehow they're pushed into a corner where he's forced to admit it to Ryu. He has shown to genuinely care at least a little about her (I'm pretty sure he protected her from the boys of class 2-4 that time she lost her chest wrap) despite how he usually acts. So have them reconcile, have Ryunosuke say she'll stay with her dad if he accepts her for who she is and have him accept her feminity as a result and allow her to act and dress the way she wants. Boom! Problem solved, both sides win and Ryu's dad is made more likeable while Ryunosuke's story has a proper conclusion.

RyuNagi. It's still about Ryunosuke, I know lmao. Anyway, I've discussed how I feel about the ship and other stuff about it here (read it if you haven't so what I say about them would make more sense). It's a bit all over the place discussing various stuff about them but I'll just copy-paste the bit where I talk about how it could be done better..

It had so much potential. Nagisa had to be introduced much earlier and they should've had more chapters together. Maybe, they could've made Nagisa and Ryunosuke discuss and bond over their stupid upbringing, maybe Nagisa could feel bad for Ryu, after hearing how much she wants to be a proper woman and how much her dad stopped her from enjoying herself and maybe help her enjoy things that her dad didn't allow her to (Christmas, Chocolates, etc.) and Ryunosuke fully falls for him because of his kindness... Then their romance would've felt even more natural.

I think the RyuNagi growth would take place before Ryunosuke's reconciling with her dad in case you want a timeline and by that time Ryu would properly be into Nagisa so the romance between them still stays, even after her being effeminate.

Introduce Inaba a bit earlier and give him another storyline with Shinobu. I feel like we still don't know much about Inaba and his dynamic with Shinobu entirely and that's like my only issue about Inaba and InaShino really, so have a storyline after they started dating where we can see how they bounce off each other and truly show that they're perfect couple, idk I just want more cute stuff for them, maybe Shinobu stands up for Inaba when the other bunnies bully him, maybe we get to know more about Inaba's interests and hobbies and maybe we can have the gag stuff be silly interactions between them and maybe Ataru (and Lum) spying on them or something idk.

Give great characters who don't have much spotlight what they need. Oyuki is a good example of this since she appears the least among Lum's alien friends. I saw someone online state that Kurama should've been brought back later on, instead of just disappearing, and could've attempted to mate with Tobimaro or Shingo; and I totally agree with it.. For the former, it could worked as an Asuka plotline and could've been a great arc and for the latter, it could be chaotic since Shingo doesn't know how to respect women. These two are the main examples but there may be others..

And that's all that comes to mind now. These are like the major, main ones and there might be others but they're probably incredibly minor or I just forgor about them..

We're both fictives (definitions here) the the Keshet System; specifically, we're part of a...sub-subsystem, a slightly seperate duo in the subsystem shared with our partner Ran and her median aspects. Both of us mostly use she/her pronouns these days.

My source is Ryūnosuke Fujinami from the manga/anime Urusei Yatsura, and Ocean is sourced from my fiancée Nagisa Shiowatari. Because the system we're in is in a body of non-Japanese ancestry, we've both adopted European names, and expect to be addressed by them. I'm Serafina Wister, and she's Ocean Waterford.

Per our exomemories, we're adults, living independently (co-running the café, with help from Ran), and although we're legally married we're also in an open relationship and especially in a committed throuple with Ran.

The blog title is a reference to both our names, and to one of my favorite animals, the clione (AKA a 'sea angel'):

Cliones are tiny little sea snails that shed their shells a few days after hatching, hence the scientific name "gymnosomata": naked-bodied. The idea of shedding something I was born with and swimming freely through life in my own way is pretty appealing....

I don't know why they rewrote the part where Nagisa shows off his chest to have Ryunosuke check. Maybe they just liked the joke of Nagisa squealing in embarrassment? "Queer" in the VIZ translation was probably a slur in Japanese which was pretty common in writing of this era ("okama"). But all that and Nagisa's father's stance on the matter got removed to avoid any trouble. Unrelated, they had Lum and Shinobu bring up that Ataru and Mendo didn't hit on Nagisa first, which is interesting as in the manga, it was just the boys reacting to each other at first. The final scene was rewritten to have an extra gag regarding the sea urchin shaved ice, presumably because it is a bit more interesting than Nagisa still chasing down Ryunosuke. I do like that Ryunosuke is still grilling corn and waving it around threateningly, even if she doesn't throw it. Oh and Lum kept her shirt on while sunbathing, she's gonna get an uneven tan. And Ataru doesn't get to snorkel.

All in all, this half was alright. It is hard to beat the OVA's visuals, but I will say it did have some pretty bad drawings. I don't mind the goofy off-model stuff for a gag, but some of these are clearly just a bit rushed.

URUSEI YATSURA 2022 2nd season ep#16; short review

We continue with the Ryunosuke incident.

While I love my girl Lum more than anything (please don't look at the figure I bought last week), the anime has been focusing on other characters for the past couple of episodes, and it's pretty nice to give them a chance to shine as well as some sort of closure (?) for their romance arc.

Nagisa is definitely made for Ryunosuke in a hilarious way, and the fact he's stronger than her is bound to make Ryunosuke grow and maybe think about things differently. Also, happy to see nurse Sakura! It had been a while. If they worked together, Ryunosuke and Nagisa would be such a powerful menace... Only if they don't ever kiss, as it'd mean Nagisa would pass on. There's an angst potential there, but I doubt the anime would touch on it.

The second part of the episode is absolutely hilarious. In order to avoid supplementary classes, all the students remain silent under any circumstances, even when they're being bombed by Ten. Their teacher is even moved to tears... Until the class ends, of course. The comedic timing is flawless, and Lum is adorable as always.

Very curious to see what next episode will bring...
