Stan is very mature for a boy his age and that's what attracts you to him

He doesn't really notice you at first, because he doesn't have time for dating and he's more worried about keeping his things in order

You try approaching him multiple times, but you usually get shrugged off

You can go to the temple and wait until after Prayer hall, Shacharit, or the morning blessings, but he'll probably spot you and avoid you. If you're not Jewish, you'll approach his father, the Rabbi, telling him about your interest in the culture

I unironically think Tite Kubo is a misogynist for making Or1hime and Ich1go end up together.

And I'm not just saying this because ichiruki is my OTP but it's because the fact that this man knows how to write romance and ichiruki's bond is top notch even when you compare it to actual shoujo pairings - he could have written ich1hime into something that developed slowly over time that maybe could have at least made sense and delved into something organic, but till the very end they felt like awkward acquaintances. The gap in closeness between Ich1ruki ('more than friends less than lovers') vs the cannon Ich1hime ship bond is quite frankly jarring like there is seriously no competition. Now renj1ruk1a, while I'm not enthusiastic about, at least had something to it but again, comparing Ich1go's and Ruk1a's relationships with other people aside from the one that they have with each other, Ich1go's and Or1hime's relationship is hands down one of the most lackluster in the show. Heck, Ich1go even had a more dynamic relationship with Ury*u, Chad and even T4tsuki for god's sake.

I really think that the only reason Ich1hime ended up together is because Ich1go is the male hero lead and the "appropriate" love interest in Kubo's head was a woman who fit the "ideal" woman to start a family with and that's where Or1hime fits the bill. She's the typical ideal shy and submissive Japanese girl ( not to mention the ridiculous breast size) who is motherly and completely smitten and devoted with the male lead and I guess Kubo thought that was peak heterosexual romance as opposed to the duo with the sun and moon symbolism and moving 'she stopped the rain' 'i wonder if i can keep up with the speed of the world without you' poetry.

Also, you would think that male authors who put so much work into their male leads would develop the romantic bonds and individual character of whatever female love interest they plan to pair up the precious male hero but NOPE - they often don't do that and it's where you can clearly see men's misogyny and how little women matter to them.

And when you have a story where you can actually see the male author write such a beautiful deep relationship between two opposite sex characters without bullshit gender roles and then go ahead and make one pairing (involving one of the main characters) that fits patriarchal gender roles cannon ??!!! - in the same fucking story where you can directly compare them - it's the misogyny I'm afraid.

From Snow to Sabras, My Journey

I asked on Twitter what subjects folks would like me to write about and most people said they’d like to hear about my experience of moving from the Soviet Union to Israel. I was barely more than a toddler when it happened, yet I have some vivid memories and it will be my pleasure to share them with you. 

Note that this is my individual, highly subjective, child’s impression of international politics. Please don’t cite me in your research papers.

I was born in Moscow. I mostly have fond memories from the majestic, snowy city and our cozy little dacha, where we picked mushrooms in the forest, spent time by the cracking fire, and always made sure not to anger our domovoi. All my toys were hefty combat vehicles made from the same metal they made tanks from, but I liked them.

My only bad memory is getting nightmares from seeing Lenin’s pickled cadaver in the Kremlin. I liked the rest of it though. I especially loved the marching troops and the cathedral that looked like a giant child’s toy.

I’ve always known that I was a different nationality from most people in the city, and often asked my mother about random people, “Is he Jewish? Is she Jewish? Is this cat Jewish?” but never felt any hostility towards them or from them.

I was a few months shy of five when we made Aliyah in 1989. On the way, I heard someone in the airport (in Budapest, not Moscow) saying there was a whole TV channel just for kids in Israel. It sounded like magic to me. I talked about it with my parents, wondering if such a thing was possible, and they both agreed I've probably misheard this person or that perhaps someone was fantasizing.

All three of us were totally amazed when we arrived in Israel and it turned out to be true.

It's a small thing, but it's the best illustration of what it's like to move from a socialist society to a free society. What struck us the most was the bounty, the variety, the diversity, the fun, offered by daily life in Israel. It was as if life suddenly went from monochrome to color.

I don't recall thinking at any point that I was more or less free than before, and I don't recall my parents talking about freedom. The word "freedom" was mostly something we heard from badass American action heroes as they rained bullets on bad guys who were against freedom.

Don't get me wrong. This wasn't a passage from heaven to hell.

We still had to deal with prejudice, although of a different kind and not institutional. In the early 90s, Israel was plagued with hostility towards Russian-speakers, especially from North African Jews. I got into many fights because of this. In fact, my earliest memory from kindergarten was beating a boy with a pipe because he and his friends accosted me for my accent. Later, I was kicked out of school for throwing chairs out of a window at some kids below for much the same reason. I regret nothing. Fun fact about my family: every single one of us was kicked out of school at some point in life. I’d be a bad Kurlianchik if I failed to pass this rite.

Nevertheless, there was something magical about leaving the Soviet Union and coming to Israel. It was a shift from mediocrity and grimness to a life of plenty and variety. Highly recommended.

do you have any obscure hobby headcanons for any tokyo ghoul characters in particular? if you do, please share!! i think things like this help give the characters even more interiority.

for example, i have a headcanon that karren really enjoys basket weaving. like, they can do it really well and really fast. i think even shuu struggles to keep up with how quickly they can do it, and he's the one who taught them how to do it!!

and another one i have is that urie is really into writing haikus. though, i think it's something he's more shy about than he is with his paintings/art. he has a little pocket-sized notebook he carries around for when he gets struck with the inspiration to write a haiku when out and about.
