Request: I would love to see something Like IT’s Career day at school and Jay and Will come to teach about their jobs along with others. And Halstead's sister gets bullied. During the break of moving in between careers someone comes and beats her up in like the bathroom and leaves her there and no one notices her being gone untill the end of the day. (I kinda want like Fire, Med, and Pd to find her)
sorry if it doesn’t make much sense you can choose how to end it and stuff
I also LOVE your fics I can’t wait to see more❤️
Authors Note; Y’all really love the angst huh, gotta deliver,, and hopefully you enjoy this little drabble. Also, part of me really wanted to title this, 'big sister hugs' because I think that Hailey would be the best big sister and also give the best big sister advice.
warnings: private girls school (yes that's a warning), bullying, getting jumped (i guess?), hospital and injuries,, Jay and Will not knowing girl bullying and being stubborn, a very poorly written plot
High school was not always easy, but you were comfortable at your school with your friends. That was until there was a security issue and Jay’s information got leaked. Your apartment, school, Jay’s license plate, everything that could be used to track him ended up in the hands of the ‘bad guys’. Jay and Will had broken the news to you that they were pulling you from your current school, and moving to another school closer to Will’s. A private girls school, the ones with the fancy uniforms and stuck-up kids who thought the law didn’t apply to them because they had money. You hated it. You had begged Jay and Will to let you stay, but there was no changing their mind.
The first week was hell, you knew no one. Starting in the middle of the year meant that everyone knew you were the new girl. You were enrolled under your mother's maiden name, for extra safety. It was weird not hearing your name followed by ‘Halstead’. After the first week was gone, you decided to stick it out until the problem with Jay blew over, by then, you could probably convince them to let you go back to your other school. Three weeks passed by and intelligence solved Jay’s leak.
“So,” You began on Sunday family dinner, “Now that the whole leak in PD is over…”
Jay and Will shared a look from across the table.
You narrowed your eyes, “What?”
Will ran a hand down his face, “Listen…”
“You won't let me go back.”
“It’s a better school-”
“Better?” You spat, “How is it better? I hate it there!”
“It’ll get better,” Jay said, “You just need more time to adjust.”
“I don’t want to adjust-”
“We’re not pulling you out,” Jay said, “I know you're struggling right now, but you’ll make some friends and-”
“I can’t believe you.” You pulled away from the table, leaving your half-eaten dinner where it was and stomping off to your room. Jay stood to follow, ready to scold you for storming away and having such an attitude.
“Jay,” Hailey grabbed his arm, “Let her cool down.”
Jay and Will didn’t budge on your school. You had gone from begging to bargaining with no success. Now you were giving them both the silent treatment. You knew it was immature and frankly ridiculous, but you were too mad to think clearly. Jay had already scolded you for not talking to him for the last week. You had ignored him.
Hailey was the only one you spoke too, because it wasn’t her fault that Jay was being stubborn. Even so, you didn’t tell her everything when she stopped by your room. Namely, the career day that was coming up. You knew telling her meant she would tell Jay. And Jay and Will had a terrible habit of embarrassing you at school. At your last school's career day, Will and Jay had come and talked for hours about their funniest stories. You knew if they came this time, your peers wouldn’t be as amused.
When career day did roll around, your dean stood in front of the school in the auditorium, introducing students and their parents. Your school was much smaller than your last one - something about smaller class sizes being better for learning - so the auditorium wasn’t fully packed.
Not everyone brought their parents, but the popular kids with parents who had good jobs came. Like the group of girls who hated you, who all brought at least one parent. Your dean invited students to the stage by class and then had the student introduce their parents. Your class was last, the biggest number of parents who had come. You were sat at the end of your class, mostly because you didn't have anyone to bring. Not that it bothered you.
“Next up, we have Olivia and her mom, Jen.”
Jen was a dentist, she spent 10 minutes explaining how her job worked and then opened for questions. There weren’t many, mostly a few questions from seniors about collages and other stuff.
Then it was Sophie, with her dad the Banker.
By the time the girls who hated you were called up, you were ready to fall asleep. No one here had an interesting job, most of the jobs were boring well playing jobs that you could never see yourself doing.
The main girl who didn’t like you was Madison. She wasn’t fond of how the teachers asked you for answers in class, not that you could do anything about that. Her friend group was made up of 5 or 6 girls who were seemingly lovely. All smiles and compliments around teachers but spread vicious rumors and lies when adults couldn’t hear. You had heard them speaking about you a few times, not that you cared. It wasn’t great to be the new girl with all the rumors, but you had banked on leaving the school before for long. Which, you knew now, wasn’t an option. So now you were stuck with the girls who all hated you for rumors or lies that you didn’t even know.
Madison brought her mum and dad with her, real estate agents who worked together selling multi-billion dollar houses. The whole time she had a smug look on her face. When she sat back down in her row, she turned in her seat, looking back at you.
“Didn’t bring anyone?” She asked.
You didn’t bother replying.
“Is it because your parents are coke addicts?” Her friend beside her pressed.
How that rumor even started you didn’t know, it was so absurd.
“Or is it because they’re dead?” Madison pressed.
You gave her a bored look, “I’ll take my family over your fraud family any day.”
Madison opened her mouth to bark something back, but was shushed by your teacher. She turned back to face the front, arms crossed over her chest. No doubt stewing in your words.
“We now have some guests to speak to you,” The Dean said through the microphone, “We reached out to some of our first responders and invited them to come speak to you too. Everyone please welcome Dr Asher and Dr Halstead from Gaffney Chicago Med.”
Will and Hannah walked to the stage, both in their Med scrubs with doctors coats on. Will was looking for you, you could tell from the way his eyes scanned the faces in the audience. You slumped in your chair, avoiding looking at him at all.
How did he find out? Did he and Jay find out somehow? Did your school contact them?
You really wanted to disappear now, your face was no doubt bright red by how much it was burning. You prayed silently that Will hadn’t told Jay, but you knew it was a useless prayer. If Will was here Jay would be too.
You got your answer when the dean explained that there were more guests outside on the fields. She ordered everyone to head that way, ushering students with promises of something ‘exciting’.
Outside, firehouse 51 had parked their rigs on the grass. 51 had their ladder extended, Mouch standing at the controls grinning like a champion. Not far from Mouch was Trudy, flanked by two patrol cars and their officers. Looking across the gathered first responders it didn’t take long to spot Jay and Intelligence. Their own cars were parked on the grass, the lights on. Everyone but Voight had their vests on, adding to the dramatic atmosphere already created.
Students huddled around, entranced by the cars and rigs which you had seen plenty of times. You tried to hide towards the back, but Kelly had spotted you and tried to usher you closer. You shrugged back at him, trying to make it look like you were stuck within the crowd.
“Firstly, we would like to thank Sergeant Trudy Platt and Sergeant Hank Voight, as well as Chief Wallace Boden for coming today. We are hugely appreciative to hear from you,” The dean spoke into a microphone, “Secondly, I want to ask students to be respectful, as these hard working men and women have taken time out of their busy days to come and speak to us. So we are going to listen and show respect. There will be time for questions and demonstrations at the end. Please Welcome Sergeant Trudy Platt.”
The crowd clapped as Trudy took the mic, but it wasn’t too enthusiastic. Trudy gave a similar speech to last year. Along the lines of what made district 21 special, intelligence and the hardworking patrol officers. She talked about fake calls and how breaking the law would wind you up in her cells etc. It was funny, a few quips earning laughs from teachers and parents. But you had heard it all before. You were dreading what the others would say. You didn’t want everyone knowing your brother was a cop, that would cause way too many issues.
So instead, you slipped away from the crowd, heading back towards the school building to hide in the bathroom.
You didn’t think anyone would notice, most people were paying attention to the speakers or interested in the rigs. You were wrong, of course, being followed almost immediately by Madison and a couple of her friends.
You got to the lockers before they announced themselves.
“What did you mean my parents were frauds, bitch?”
You turned around in fright, not even hearing them sneak up on you.
“I didn’t mean it,” You replied, “I’m sorry.”
You were, kind of. Mostly you were sorry that you had said it, because she genuinely seemed shocked. But this was Chicago, anyone with any money committed fraud, it was kind of the standard.
“I don’t care if you're sorry,” Madison snarled, she was taller than you so when she stepped closer you couldn’t help feeling intimidated. “What did you mean?”
“Madison-”
One of her friends pushed you hard against the lockers with a forearm over your collar, “Answer the question.”
You were by no means a confrontational person. Growing up, Jay always tried to teach you to talk out your issues, violence or fighting wasn’t a good solution. Will was the same, although both of them weren’t always the best at doing as they counseled.
“I just meant that,” You were panicking under the glare of all three girls, “You know, this is chicago and-”
“And what? Everyone is a criminal like your addict parents?” Madison got in your face again.
“My parents weren’t addicts,” You scoffed, now annoyed that she wouldn’t let that go.
“No?” The girl who was holding you back moved her arm further up your neck, pressing against your throat, “Then where are they?”
“If my parents were addicts, would you really think I'd be in a private school?” You pressed, “Use your brain for once, please.”
You should have known that would piss Madison off. She let out an annoyed scoff then pulled back her fist and punched your square in the nose. The force slammed your head back into the lockers, the sound echoing through the empty halls. The punch wasn’t hard enough to break your nose, but you would feel the blood start to drip down your lip. Madison shook her hand like she had taken more damage than you had.
“Want to say that again?” The third girl finally spoke up.
It was like they were all gaining confidence in the security of the three of them. When one of them said something the others would laugh and smirk.
“I don’t like bullies, you know,” Madison said.
God, the irony.
This time the punch came from the third girl, landing in your stomach. You didn't know her name, but she was on the volleyball team, so her punch was much stronger. Your body doubled over, arms crossing over your stomach as your lungs tried to fight your diaphragm for air. The arm holding you up was dropped, and your body fell to the ground as you tried to force yourself to take some deep breaths.
“This is what you deserve,” A girl said, before another blow landed on your ribs. The wind was knocked out of you again, causing you to cough and choke.
Madison crouched down to your level, “Bullies like you deserve to be put in their place.”
You didn’t have time to appreciate the irony this time, because she was kicking your head, hard.
Your body reacted on instinct, curling into itself to try to protect you from another blow that was sure to come.
“Hey!”
The three girls sprinted at the voice, running away from their actions.
“Hey, kid,” A hand on your shoulder made you flinch, when your vision cleared you realized it was just Kelly. He held his hands out to show you he meant no harm, then gently helped you sit up.
“You’re alright,” He said softly, steading you sitting against the lockers. You couldn’t even reply, focused solely on breathing through the pain in your head and side.
“I found her,” Kelly said into his radio, “North Hallway, bring a jump bag.”
Kelly gently touched the side of your face, tilting your head to look at the side you had been kicked.
“You still got that med kit in your bag?” He asked, knowing Kidd had taught you that in girls on fire.
“Yeah,” You said softly, your voice above a whisper.
Kelly ripped open your bag, rummaging through it until he found the small first aid kit. He was only after gauze, once he secured it, he ripped the package open and pressed the gauze to your head.
You winced, instinctively pulling away from him.
“I know,” He said, sitting down next to you so he could hold the gauze in place, “Sorry kid.
You both looked up as the sound of footsteps came running towards you. You might as well have been on fire, the entire house was rushing towards you. Jay and Intelligence were there too, Will and Asher running along beside everyone.
“This is overkill,” You said to no one in particular.
Kelly chuckled, shuffling so that Will could take his place next to you, “We’re all here for you, kid.”
Will replaced Kelly’s hand with his own, when Kelly pulled away you could see blood on his hand.
Jay croached on your other side, letting Will, Hannah and Brett take care of you.
“What happened?” He asked, looking over your bloody nose, head injury and the way you were holding your side.
You didn’t want to be known as a snitch, one glance behind your brother and you could see students being held back by teachers and 51. The school day was almost over, everyone would be gathering their things to leave. You hoped you weren’t in front of someone's locker who hated you, this would definitely make them hate you more.
You looked back at Jay, his eyes filled with worry, “What happened, squirt?”
“I, uh.. I fell.”
Will scoffed, “You fell?”
“Yeah, I’m clumsy,” You said.
“You fell and hit your nose and the side of your head?” Hannah asked, voice soft, “Are you sure that's the story you want to tell?”
Over her shoulder, Kelly was talking to Voight and Hailey. Hailey was pointing something out, a camera that was positioned above one of the classroom doors.
“Yeah,” You didn’t sound confident at all. But right now, you wanted to be anywhere but here.
Jay looked pissed, but he didn’t say anything. He got to his feet and stood out of the way as Hannah and Will helped you stand. They lead you over to the stair chair, despite your very vocal argument that you were fine.
Being wheeled through the crowd of students and their parents was the most embarrassing thing you had ever experienced. You passed by Madison at one point, who was leaning against her locker talking to her parents like nothing ever happened. You avoided looking her way, instead focusing on what Brett was saying about getting to the rig.
Outside the building things were less stressful and crowded. You managed to convince the four hovering adults that you could stand on your own to get into the back of the ambulance, even if you didn’t really think you needed one.
“I’m really fine,” You argued for probably the fifth time, “I think you're overreacting.”
Will sighed, running a hand down his face, “You are too stubborn for your own good,” He muttered.
Violet chuckled, “Just lay back, alright? You aren’t getting out of this, no matter how much you complain.”
She was right, but that didn’t stop you from pouting the whole way to Med.
At Med, Will hovered as Hannah stapled the laceration on your head. You weren’t too happy about the idea of being stabled back together, but Will had taken a photo of the laceration to prove you needed it.
“That’s so gross,” You said, pushing the phone away from you.
“That’s why you need staples,” Will explained, rolling his eyes.
Not long after Hannah had treated you and left you to rest, Jay, Hailey and Voight walked in.
“Are you doing alright?” Jay asked, hesitant to start another argument.
“I’m fine,” You repeated, “I don’t know why everyones making such a big deal.”
“You were attacked at-”
“I fell.” You interrupted.
“Y/N-”
“Jay.” You echoed in the same tone.
Jay's face flashed with irritation, he looked to Will for help.
“We know that’s not true,” Will said, giving you his best parental disappointed look.
“The whole thing was caught by the security cameras,” Hailey spoke softly, she was the only person in the room who knew what it was like to be a teenage girl in high school, “We just want to know what they said.”
You tried to come up with some kind of explanation that wouldn’t get anyone in trouble, but you came up short.
“It’s not that big of a deal,” You shrugged, avoiding eye contact with all of them.
Will leaned forward, he looked wary, “Listen, squirt, we want to help, but we can’t unless you tell us the truth.”
“That is the truth,” You argued back, crossing your arms definitely, “It’s not a big deal.”
“You’re in the hospital!” Jay gestured around, “What about this is ‘not a big deal’.”
You scowled, refusing to say anything else and just sitting silently.
Voight squeezed Jay's shoulder, “We’ll let her rest, come back later?”
Jay nodded, not bidding you goodbye as he stomped out of the room. You hadn’t seen him this mad in forever, you weren’t sure if this would blow over as easily as your other fights. Voight followed after Jay, he told you to get some rest then followed his detective to try to calm him down.
Will got up to leave too, he told you to rest and said he would come back soon. When the three left, it was only Hailey who stayed behind.
“I know you’ve been struggling at school,” She took a seat on the bed next to you, “I know what that’s like.”
You fiddled with your fingers, not wanting to admit she was right.
“You know what happened today wasn’t right,” Hailey continued, “Jay wants to press charges.”
“What? No! That’ll just make it wor…” You stopped yourself.
“Make what worse?” Hailey pressed.
You took a deep breath, trying not to get upset.
“Whatever is going on, I can help,” Hailey promised.
“You can’t get me out of that school,” You scowled.
“I think after today, that might be possible.”
You leaned back into the pillows. Dr Asher had given you some pain meds for your head, they removed the sharp pain and replaced it with a dull throb. You could feel it more as you got more upset.
“There’s this stupid rumor that my parents are addicts,” you explained, “Madison is always taunting me with it, saying that's why no one ever comes to parent evenings or teacher interviews…”
Hailey didn’t say anything, she just sat listening patiently.
“Before you guys came, she asked why my parents weren’t here and I said that I would rather have my family over her fraud one.”
Hailey nodded as she listened.
“It was stupid and as soon as I said it, I regretted it. When we were outside I went inside to go to the bathroom and Madison and her friends followed me… They, uh… Madison wanted to know why I said it and I apologized but she didn’t- she, she didn’t care and…”
Hailey got the cue, “Okay. It’s alright.” She pulled you into a gentle hug. “Everything’s going to be alright.”

How Many Detectives Are Needed To Sleep A Baby? || Jay Halstead x reader!
Cute and fluffy Jay, wife and baby + babysitter detectives
*re-posting this because I'm stupid and accidentaly delated my blog 🫠
Summary: Intelligence unit takes care of Jay's newborn baby while he and his wife are in court. Turns out it is the most difficult case they have worked on.
-"You can't go in there". Platt muttered in a scolding tone to Adam, who wanted to go into the coffee room.
-"Why not?" He asked strangely.
-"Shhhhhh". Kim gave him a punch on his arm. -"Keep it quiet, you're gonna wake her up".
-"Ok, alright". Ruzek kept his voice low. -"What the hell is going on, girls?"
-"Halstead's baby is sleeping in there. Don't you dare to interrupt her sweet dreams, bro". Kevin said from his desk.
-"Look at her. You can see her smile even from here". Hailey said, peeking through the window.
Trudy and Kim followed her.
-"She's so lucky she didn't get her father's mad face". The Sergeant enquired.
-"What do you think she's dreaming about? She looks so peaceful".
-"What's going on? Where's Jay? Where's her mom? What is she doing here all alone?" Adam was losing it, increasing his voice volume once more.
-"She's not alone. We're taking care of her!". Hailey frowned.
-"Adam, please". Voigh silently got out of his office and rushed towards him whispering. -"Would you keep it down? I can hear your voice even with my door closed. Let the baby rest, she's only weeks old and already has seen too much".
The detective opened his arms in a defeated gesture. He had just arrived and didn't understand anything.
-"Y/N is testifying right now, we couldn't avoid it. She and her colleagues published the investigation under their names, so...I couldn't stop it. Jay is by her side. The baby is here for protection".
-"She really is a hell of a journalist". Upton mentioned with admiration.
-"And a very brave woman. We owe her a lot in this case". Hank stated.
-"You know? You would have known about this if you had arrived in time to work". Burgess teases Adam.
-"Is there any news about the trial?" Platt wanted to know, worried about you.
-"Not yet, but Jay said he'll be in touch". The boss stated. -"You know these trials take time".
They weren't conscious about it, but the whole Intelligence squad looked hilarious talking with whispers and walking in tiptoes as they went back to their workplaces.
Time passed and the girl was still sleeping safe and sound, until Adam decided to stand up to stretch a bit and stumbled with some cables on the floor. Naturally, the clatter woke up the little baby.
-"It had to be you, right?" Kim mocked her husband as she helped him stand up.
Hailey and Kevin ran to the coffee room as if they were running a race. It was him who got there first and held the baby girl.
-"There, there. Uncle Kev is right here". He tried to reassure her. -"I had siblings and took care of them when they were babies. I can manage another one".
But after a few minutes, she was still uncontrollable.
-"Ok, it's my turn". Burgess got into the game and took the baby off his partner's arms. -"I'm the only mom here, the only one who has a real daughter. I know how to do it".
-"What are you talking about?" Trudy Platt laughed. -"Makayla was already a grown up when you adopted her!" And she grabbed the baby to accommodate her in her chest. But the crying did not stop.
-"Oh, no. What are they doing to you, sweetie?" Upton grabbed her and laid her in her arms. -"I am her godmother, she knows me better".
The baby Halstead slowed down her crying, but she was still restless.
-"Well, how many detectives do you need to sleep a baby, hum? You don't know anything". Hank Voight gasped. -"Give her to me, I'll show you all". But as soon as she was in the arms of the boss, her crying increased. -"Oh. I've lost touch!"
Jay and Y/N were already at the bullpen, waiting in the stairs. They got in time to witness the fluffy scene.
-"Hey, guys? She's not a rag doll, you know?" Jay said laughing at the scene and his friends turned around with surprise. -"She just needs her daddy's arms''. He took his daughter to stroke her and almost immediately she calmed down.
-"That's not fair". Platt crossed her arms.
-"We brought you coffee". You smiled, leaving the box you were carrying on one of the desks. -"There's not enough caffeine when you take care of a newborn. There's one for each of you, just as each of you like it. Look for your name in the tags".
-"Geez, thanks!" Adam said gladly and balanced the table. -"I was denied entrance to the coffee room the whole morning".
-"I'm sorry". You turned red.
-"Don't listen to him". A chorus of detectives said.
-"She's really calm, it was no problem". Kevin asserted and everyone else agreed.
You approached your husband and as soon as you were in your daughter's sight, the baby started to smile and giggle, throwing little kicks into the air.
-"What? Why are you laughing so much, baby?" You raised your hands and freed Jay's arms. -"Come with mommy, sweetie".
Everyone stared at the scene with tenderness, especially Kim, whose eyes started watering.
-"You wanna hold her?"
She just nodded and took the opportunity.
-"How was the trial? Are you alright?" Platt inquiered.
-"Yeah, I mean it was really scary, but I think it went fine". Y/N hands started to shake a little bit, but she was fast enough to hide them in her pockets. Nobody noticed, except for Jay.
-"She did a great job". He hugged you by the waist, trying to secretly ease you.
-"I have no doubt about it, she already showed us how much of a badass she is". Hank smirked.
-"I will just be more comfortable if you stay in here at least until the Jury deliberates, or as soon as I can go home with you. It's just a precaution, I'm not being paranoid or something".
-"Yes, I agree". Voight followed the idea.
-"Sure. Whatever you think is better".
The baby yawned and stretched herself so adorably, that she caught everyone's attention again.
-"I should put her down to sleep".
-"Alright. Take my seat, Y/N. We don't know how much we're staying here". Jay pointed out.
-"C'me on, Kim. Give the baby back to her mommy".
-"If you need help with the baby or you get bored of these people around, I'll be downstairs". The desk Sergeant winked at you and you smiled back at her back.
-"She won't be bored. She has me here". Hailey pulled a face.
-"I'll take provisions just in case the little one takes the coffee room again". Ruzek rushed to the kitchen.
Everyone else rolled their eyes in a funny way.

Upstead Foster Daughter
Did you ever wonder how Upstead would be as foster parents for a teenage girl? Like Hank and Erin, Hailey and Jay welcomed Olivia to their home when she was 16. Olivia holds a lot of grudges and is full of mischief, but she is also incredibly sweet and has a tremendous need to feel like she belongs. To her surprise, Hailey and Jay will give her exactly that.
Masterlist
[Chapter II] “You’re on your own, kid, you always have been”
No one expected to hear a stranger's voice through their radio, let alone saying that Jay was bleeding out on the pavement.
“Who the hell are you?” Voight’s surprised voice came through the radio.
“My name is Olivia Rivera, I'm with your officer Halstead and he's been shot! I'm sorry I couldn't call an ambulance but I don't have my phone with me,” Olivia said everything so fast they almost couldn't understand it.
“Shot? What the hell?” said Hailey in exasperation. She was driving with Voight after Jay left by himself.
The whole team was checking the crime scene from their current case when Jay got a call from a CI. Hailey was busy interrogating a witness when he got the call. She told him to wait for her but he was so eager for whatever information his CI had to give that he decided to go by himself. Turns out it was a trap. Hailey did not know the details yet, but she couldn’t help but think that this would have not happened if she had been with him.
“Wh-where are you?” Hailey asked, already feeling her heart start to beat out of her chest.
Olivia told her the address as slowly as possible in her state; after that, Hailey started bombarding her with questions she did not know how to answer.
While they talked, Voight rushed in passing the address to dispatch requesting an ambulance and some patrol cars. The rest of the team followed behind.
“Is he conscious?” Hailey asked.
Silence followed her question, leaving them both tense.
“Olivia! Is he conscious?” Hailey repeated.
“I- He- He was until now when I called you.”
“Does he still have a pulse, Olivia?” Hailey guided her to check.
“Yes, he does!”
“Okay, okay, keep putting pressure on the wound.”
“What's the ambulance ETA?” Voight's rough voice questioned dispatch.
“We're close, hang tight Olivia,” Hailey said, trying to calm the girl and herself down. He would make it, he always made it. This was not his first time being shot, but she surely hoped it was his last. She couldn't do this last time and she especially can't do it now.
“He'll be fine, Hailey,” Voight's voice invaded her thoughts. “Halstead’s strong, he'll get through this.”
Olivia didn't like hospitals. She felt trapped, unsafe, and overwhelmed. Probably because of the amount of people coming and going, the voices overlapping each other. There was too much going on and she shouldn't even be there in the first place.
After Jay's co-workers got to them everything happened in a blur. The ambulance got there seconds later, along with the other members of the team.
When Hailey and Voight arrived, Hailey came running in Jay and Olivia’s direction. She stared at the teenager with a mix of desperation and gratitude. Olivia stepped away as Hailey took her place. As others approached, Olivia stepped more and more away from the scene, ending up a little far away from it all.
She watched the scene unfold before her eyes in a trance. Jay was put into an ambulance and taken to the hospital, with several police cars following behind. Should she leave? She wants to know if he is going to be alright, of course. On the other hand, she feels like she was not supposed to be there.
“Hey! Olivia, isn't it?” a tall man appeared in her field of vision, his eyes were gentle and his voice calm.
“Yes,” Olivia answered.
“Name’s Kevin, Kevin Atwater. This is my friend, Kim Burgess,” he pointed to the woman beside him, and she smiled softly. Both officers looked shaken but they masked well, Olivia thought. Of course, this was not easy for them. Seeing a colleague hurt like that, almost lifeless.
“There's someone we can call for you? Your mom or dad?” Kim asked.
The girl didn’t answer. Kevin and Kim exchanged a look.
“Well, just come to the hospital with us then, okay?”
Voight watched them from afar, getting ready to enter the car and head to Med. Jay was the priority now, but they all were grateful for the girl, she saved Jay’s life after all. He made a mental note to thank her personally later.
Olivia debated for a moment. She decided it was better if she went with them and found a way to leave later without them noticing.
She nodded and followed them to the car.
“You can get cleaned up there,” Kim said after getting in the car.
Kevin started the drive to Med. Olivia didn’t answer the officer, suddenly feeling hyper-aware of all the blood on her. The adrenaline was wearing down.
“Are you okay, Olivia?” Kim asked softly.
“Yeah, sorry… I'm fine.”
“It’s okay, we will get to the hospital soon.”
Sitting in the doctors' room in Chicago Med a couple of hours later, Olivia was clean and waiting for a chance to leave. The really nice nurse called April who helped her clean up and gave her some food came by minutes ago and told her Jay would be alright. She left again when another nurse called for her so now was the perfect time for Olivia to leave.
She did not need to be discharged since she was neither a patient nor a suspect, right? Olivia got up and left the room, bringing some of the snacks the nurse gave her.
“Don’t worry Hails, we’re getting the bastard who shot Jay,” Kevin said firmly, looking at a very distressed-looking Hailey. Olivia got to the hospital’s lounge and saw Jay’s team reunited talking. They had their backs to the door she entered and could not see her.
They started to talk about the man who shot Jay and what they were doing to find him, most of which Olivia did not understand or did not care to try to understand. She stopped paying attention and started to plan how she would get out of there. There was only one way out and she could not leave without them seeing her.
Olivia was scared. She knew she wasn’t in trouble or anything but they were still police so she might as well be in trouble if they got to know more about her. Hell, they might as well already know.
“Stay with your husband Hailey, we’ll get him,” Voight's words drew Olivia's attention. Husband? That explained why Hailey was the most distressed of them all. The look on her face when she saw him lying on the pavement.
“Oh! Olivia, there you are,” said April, the nurse who helped Olivia earlier. Olivia's name caught the group's attention and five heads turned to look in her direction.
“Olivia!” Voight said, approaching the girl. “How are you? I need to properly thank you for helping my detective, I don’t know what could have happened if you weren’t there.”
“I… well, he was…” Olivia did not know what to say, so she came with a simple “You’re welcome” and a shy smile. She didn't expect to talk with anyone, let alone have all the attention on her.
“Well, I’m Sergeant Hank Voight and this is my team,” he went on introducing each of them. “You met Officer Kim Burgess and Officer Kevin Atwater. Detective Hailey Upton was the one you spoke with on the radio. And that is Officer Adam Ruzek.” he pointed to each one and they gave her a nod or a small smile.
After the introduction, he turned to look at her again. He spoke in a more serious tone, “We’re going to need your statement.”
Shit. That is exactly what she was trying to avoid. “I can’t!” was the first thing that came out of her mouth.
“It’s okay Olivia, we checked your file and we’re going to call your foster family on the way to the station,” Hank said.
So they know about her foster family, but they did not know she had run away yet. That was why she was in that alley, in that part of town, by herself.
Olivia thought about running but she could never get far with this many cops around. On their way to the district, she thought about jumping from the moving car but that was too stupid even for her. She laughed at the thought. Sitting in the car with Kim and Kevin again, she accepted her fate.
All her effort running away was for nothing. She was back to square one.
Slow, I know, but this is me trying guys. I love this OC so I hope I can keep writing her story even though I'm slow af. Thank you so much for the likes and reblogs on chapter one! ♡

Away from you
Pairing: jay halstead x reader
Summary: y/n doesn’t know where Jay truly is and she got worried
Warning: angst, slightly smut, cheating,
A/N: i will probably write a part 2, stay tuned!
~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•
Next part
You and Jay had been together for three years and everything looked good, at least it was ‘till the end of the march. You didn’t know or understand why he changed his behavior when he was with you, especially since it all happened so quickly and unexpectedly that you just couldn’t understand what happened between you two. From one day, he just started to behave differently, coming home later and telling you that he was just too busy at work, doing some paperwork and getting his things ready for the next shift. He made it looked like he was just trying to impress Voight and for a moment you actually believed him.
You knew how much he wanted to become, one day, sergeant and to be on the lead of his own unit and you just wanted to support him in any ways you could; if he wanted to make a good impression in case of a new sergeant, you wouldn’t have stop him. Actually, it looked like Voight was having some issues lately, from how Jay talked about him after work anyway, and you really trusted him and believed him about his story.
Then, one evening, you decided to go talk with Kim, having some times together and trying to explain to her what you had in mind: Jay’s birthday was closer than you thought and you had to find a good gift for him.
“I need you to help me.” You said to Kim, smiling softly. “Jay’s birthday is in two weeks and i want to surprise him with a two-days holiday. I know that he spends a lot of time at the district doing his paperwork and trying to make a good impression in case of a promotion, but i really need your help. Can you please find a good reason to get him home earlier on Friday’s night?”
Kim was surprised by your statement, not because of the surprise you were preparing for him, but for what you said about him staying at the district till late.
“What do you mean that he spends a lot of time at the district to make a good impression? He always leaves before me, actually he arrives earlier to complete the paperwork he usually leaves at the end of the shift.”
You were confused, you were really confused. What did that mean? If he usually left the district early in the evening, why he came home every night after 11 pm, when you were already sleeping?
“Uhm… he usually doesn’t come home before 11 pm.” You whispered, looking at Kim while your mind raced through all the nights you waited for him to come back home, before falling asleep because of the tiredness of the day at work.
“Y/n, i swear to God that he usually leaves at 7 pm, 8 pm if we’re up to something ‘till late.” Kim said, looking sadly at you, while something you didn’t want to admit passed through her mind.
“But… it doesn’t make sense.” You replied, shaking your head slightly. “What does he do between 7 pm and 11 pm then?”
The girl just shook his head, looking ad you sadly and placing her hand on yours, trying to reassure you in some ways. “Maybe it’s not something you have to worry about, maybe it’s just some stuff he had to do or, maybe, it’s just a bad moment for him. I remember he was like this when he suffered from PTSD.”
You nodded, but it didn’t make sense anyway. You remembered when Jay suffered from PTSD because you were always by his side, you were always there for him and you followed him step after step, trying to help him find his way out of it. It couldn’t be PTSD that time, you would have noticed immediately.
He wasn’t distressed like he was when he suffered from it, he was actually really happy and he was usually calm when he came back home.
It could be PTSD, but what was it then?”
“Sorry Kim, i have to go.” You whispered, looking at your phone and finding out it was just 9:30 pm; you had still plenty of time before he could have been home and you wanted to find out what was happening with your boyfriend, actually with your future husband.
“Don’t worry darling, it’s okay.” Kim whispered, smiling at you. “We’ll see each other soon, okay? Maybe you can come at the district one day and we can talk a little? Also Adam and Kevin missed you, you know. With all the preparations of the wedding, we didn’t see you around in a while.”
“Yeah, when i’m not at work at the hospital, i’m around the city trying some white dresses.” You sighed, wearing your jacket and placing some money on the table, paying for your own drink.
“I can imagine that. Don’t worry, really. I hope to see you again soon.” She smiled softly at you.
“I hope that too. Bye Kim, goodnight.”
You left the bar just ten minutes after and you immediately called the one and only that could have tracked Jay’s phone without a word: Mouse.
When he came back from the army, for the second time, you knew that it would have been difficult for him to start a new life again, especially after the first time. Jay helped him and, after some weeks in which he tried to convince him every single day, Mouse accepted to come back at the intelligence as a tech. It wasn’t an easy decision for him and it was strange at first, but he knew he had no better option and working with his friend was something he missed a lot.
He picked up the phone after the second ring.
“Hi! Look who showed up!” He smiled and laughed. “I was actually asking myself when you would have called me to give me the official invite to your wedding, you know? I would have asked Jay, but he i’m pretty sure is not as much involved in the preparations as you are, so…”
“Mouse, i need your favor.” You told him straight away. “I can’t find Jay and I’m worried. Can you please track his phone and tell where he is? And, can you do that without anyone knowing it?”
It was a strange request, especially since it went from you, but Mouse got it immediately and he started to track Jay’s phone straight away. He was actually scared for his friend, he was scared that Jay got into real trouble, maybe with the ptsd or something liked that, but there was no time for questions. He tracked his phone and he gave her the address after only three minutes.
“Thank you, Mouse. Sorry if i interrupted your evening. I have to go now and, don’t worry, I’ll handle the invite in person, okay?” You said, getting inside the car while looking at the address Mouse gave to you. It could be true, why was he there?
“Don’t worry, no problem at all. I’ll leave you now, i guess you’re busy… just, tell me if anything happened to him, okay?” He replied, making sure that everything was okay, making sure that you would have called him in case of trouble.
“I will, thanks Mouse.”
When he hung up, you started the car and you drove to the location he sent you; why the hell was Jay at his old apartment? Didn’t he sell it?
When you arrived at the location, you parked the car and you got out as soon as you could, going up the stairs and reaching his door just few minutes after. Fortunately, you still knew where he used to hide the key and you went for it, opening the door as silently as you could. The first thing you noticed when you entered was the emptiness of the room: there was nothing there other than some furnishings and still you didn’t understand why Jay was there.
Then, you noticed it.
Then, you noticed them: heels and they weren’t yours.
Your mouth became dry and you stopped breathing properly, trying to find an explanation for what you were seeing. You took some steps forward and your eyes fell on the jeans and t-shirts that were on the floor, all the way up to what it was Jay’s bedroom before he moved out. You took the hallway, starting to hear voices, moans you didn’t want to hear, moans you just wanted to be from your neighbors, even if you knew that they were elderly and it couldn’t have been them. Just at the front of the door, you saw them: panties and Jay’s boxer.
Your brain stopped working, you stopped breathing and your heart almost stopped beating; you just couldn’t understand what was happing, you couldn’t believed it.
You zoned out, like you couldn’t have been there, like you were just in a dream, a bad dream, a really bad one, then you came back to reality when you actually saw and hear them.
“Oh, Jay.” She moaned, begging him. “Please, faster.”
Hailey.
Jay’s partner.
“God, Hails…” Your boyfriend moaned, lowering himself on her to kiss her breast while fucking her. “I… shit… you feel so good around me.”
“Oh, J-Jay!” She moaned louder, unaware of your presence on the frame of the door, where you were watching them, without breathing.
Jay took Hailey’s legs and he put it on his own shoulder, increasing the pace.
“Yes, cum around me, baby. Cum for me, i love you.”
Surprisingly. It wasn’t watching him fucking her that destroyed you: it was his last three words, the same three words he said to you every morning before going to work, the same three words he said to you on the phone when he was to busy at work to come home, even if he was actually heading to his old apartment, when he was able to fuck his partner whenever he wanted to.
You stepped back silently, to broken to face the truth, to heart broken to face him.
You stepped back and you left without saying a word, without make noise; you went back inside your car and only then, when Hailey’s and Jay’s moans were far away from you, you started breathing again.
Tears were streaming down your cheeks from minutes probably, but you couldn’t notice it before and you were to shocked to dry off your tears: you just wanted to add as many distance as you could between you and the man you thought was the love of your life.
You didn’t even went back to your apartment, you couldn’t have handle being again in the house that would have been yours, the house in which you hoped you would have started a family with Jay. You didn’t go back to your apartment to collect all your belongings, you just left.
You left a message to your boss’ office regarding your resignation and you drove away.
Away from Jay.
Away from your apartment.
Away from the life you dreamed of with him.
Away from the love.
Away from the pain.
Away from Chicago.

Just For A Moment - Part 7
Sorry for the long, long wait my loves, but I hope this was worth it!
There are probably going to be around 2/3 more chapters as I start drawing this series to an end👀
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
Part 6
Masterlist
No one spoke for a long while, eyes darting over the wilting pair as Aurora avoided their gazes, and Jay ached for her own to meet his pleading one.
It was Aurora who broke first, voice hoarse as she forced a cough past her lip and broke out of her stupor.
"I'm going to grab the last of my stuff, and then we can head out." She looked at Voight as she spoke, not even waiting for him to answer before she turned away and returned the same way she came. It did not go unnoticed how Kim mirrored her every step, as though she was unwilling to let the girl get too far.
Jay's bloodshot eyes met Voight's, unable to even try and translate his frustration in the form of narrowed eyes, furrowed brows and a clenched jaw.
He was an open book of raw emotion, stumbling like a toddler learning to take their first steps as he grew unsure of how to navigate the circumstances held before him.
Was this not what he had wanted? Was this not what he had been asking for- pleading and praying for since the day she had left?
And yet, it felt as though he was drifting through a dream - like she was an echo or a ghost of the girl who once roamed this very office, who now haunted his home and his dreams. And now she haunted this office.
Voight looked solemn as he met Jay's gaze, "I would've told you, Jay. But I didn't know when you'd be back."
"Why is she here?"
It was all he could say. And it was all he could do to hope that perhaps she had come on her own volition, that she had come because she had missed him. That she had heard his voicemails, every single one.
That she saw his regret, that she felt his misery and his sorrow, that she understood his guilt and forgave him.
That she came back for him.
But he knew from the look in Voight's eyes that he was way in over his head, that his wishes were simply unkempt desires and she hadn't come back for him at all.
Her flinch and stoic expression were evidence enough.
Aurora hated him, he was sure of it.
But he was also sure no one could hate him as much as he hated himself in that moment. So undeserving and unworthy of her love.
"I needed someone to go undercover in the Volkov case - she's the best."
She is, of course she is.
But to know she came back for a case, and not for him, hurt.
To know she saw Voight's call and answered him, when she had ignored his every call, hurt.
Jay knew she saw every call, it was why he never stopped. He prayed she listened to his voicemails and saw his regret, recognised his remorse and heard his devotion and his love.
But she came to help Voight, not him.
And that was a sign of its own that perhaps he was too late, that perhaps Aurora no longer wanted him - that she no longer needed him.
That she never needed him, not the way he needed her.
Not the way he wanted her- not anymore.
Jay shook his head free from such thoughts, grounding himself in the present as he chanted in his mind - she's here. She's here, and he has a chance. He has to have one. He has one until she looks him in the eyes and tells him he lost every single one, and lost her too.
His mind had finally processed Voight's words - finally, he thought.
Finally, an emotion so foreign but familiar seeped through his blood. No longer was he full of misery and grief, regret and shame. His muscles stiffened with the familiar sensation of disbelief, something so small yet euphoric as it tumbled through him as though it was unsure of how to navigate in the confines of his tortured body.
"You want her to go undercover for him? To get close to him?"
Jay couldn't believe what he was hearing - they knew how dangerous Volkov was. His only casualties were not those who touched his tainted drugs, but men, women and children who dared to defy him.
A glance at the board near Voight's office proved his fears, the surface littered in a mass of photographs with the victims of his anger and his crimes.
This was the man they wanted to send her into the arms of, this was the man they wanted her to trap.
They brought her here, so close to him, only to send her to her death.
"She's a good cop Jay, an even better undercover operative," Adam spoke now, a supportive hand placed upon Jay's shoulder as he spoke consolingly, "if anyone can take this guy down, it's her."
Jay shook his hand off as anger bubbled through him, a comforting feeling that settled at the base of his throat as he struggled to fight off his nausea.
"Are you kidding me? We know how dangerous this guy is, how can you even think about sending someone undercover to get close to him? Especially her."
Adam put his hands up in surrender, "you're letting your emotions talk for you Jay - you know just as well as we do, with her track history she is the best person for this job."
Jay shook his head vehemently, "no, you're wrong. I know what I'm talking about, and this is too dangerous. She's going go get hurt."
"You can't stop her," Voight took a step closer, brows furrowed in disappointment knowing had Jay been here from the start they would've been able to ease him into the idea better and prevented such an outburst, "she knows the risks, and she's agreed to the terms. She wants to do this."
"She doesn't know what she wants!"
Jay's heart stuttered to a stop for a second, so sure that she would've heard his raised voice.
For a moment, he hoped it was enough to make her come find him.
His fleeting eyes were enough to confirm that it wasn't.
A scoff sounded before him, his shoulders stiffening as a familiar voice rang from behind him. He knew that voice, knew it so well from the hours she would spend outside his door or on the phone pleading for his attention, for his love and his heart.
But his heart wasn't his to gift anymore, it was Aurora's. It had always been Aurora's.
And if he had been in possession of the ill-fated thing, he was sure he would protect it fiercely from Hailey.
"Are you sure you're not just saying that because she decided she doesn't want you?" Her words were harsh, they were vile and brutal but true. They stung deeply because they echoed his greatest fears and resounded through the room.
He turned towards the blonde woman, green eyes flickering between her set of blue as he was taken aback again by just how closely they mirrored one another. How her thoughts reflected his own. How his fears were picked and pulled apart by her with ease.
And he wondered to himself why he had let her get close enough to him to allow such a thing to happen in the first place.
Yet, looking into her eyes and seeing a pool of misery and anger that matched his own, he knew he would never have been able to stop such a thing.
Jay Halstead was not in love with Hailey Upton.
He was never fascinated by her.
He didn't want to be her friend because he was a good man.
He wanted to learn her entire being thoroughly because had he been born a woman, he was sure it would be her face he saw in the mirror every morning.
They had lived the same life at different paces, faced the same horrors and the same setbacks, they navigated the same shortcomings and were plagued by the same nightmares. They had loved the same and lost the same and were so intimately designed like one another, it was difficult not to find distorted version of himself staring back every time he glanced at her.
And yet, she was so different to him.
Where he was filled with anger and fury, rules and stipulations, she was happy and joyous and free, she was optimistic and kind in a way he ached to be.
In the way Aurora deserved to have him.
Jay knew why he became her friend, he knew why he confided in her, he knew why he let her kiss him and touch him, and he knew why he did the same.
Jay wanted to be healed like Hailey. He wanted to be the man Aurora deserved. But such a reality was not possible, and Aurora did not deserve the twisted and broken man that he was.
But Hailey was a reflection of his own horrors, standing untwisted and preserved.
Jay didn't deserve Aurora, he wasn't enough for her. He never was.
At least he didn't think he was.
Not until after that night with Hailey, when he saw Aurora pull away and distance from him. Not until that night where she confessed she had always known and feared she was the reason he had done such a thing - that she was not enough.
It was then Jay realised that it didn't matter how alike him and Hailey were, because no one could understand him the way Aurora did.
No one could comfort him and hold him and love him like she did.
Jay didn't need to be fixed like Hailey was. He didn't need to overcome his past like she had. Because he wasn't like Hailey, no matter how many similarities they shared in their lives.
He didn't need Hailey to show him how to become a better version of himself, because he had realised much too late that Aurora had been the one that was mending his cluttered mind and brittle soul one fragment at a time.
He didn't know how to answer Hailey, he could only stare at her as he wondered how he had let their friendship twist upon itself to sour the bond they shared.
It was also then when he realised he would have picked Aurora every time. That he should have picked Aurora every time.
He blinked himself out of his daze, blinking furiously as he turned away from Hailey the same way he should have months ago now.
He met Voight's gaze, his own filling with determination as he spoke, "just let me speak to her-"
"Jay," Kevin sighed from behind him, a pitying look colouring his face, "we've been putting a plan together for days now. This is the only way we got to get this guy."
"Then let me go with her - let me go too, so she's not alone. So that he can't hurt her."
Voight clenched his jaw as he wondered how to navigate his way through Jay's volatile emotions, "you're not in the right state of mind, Jay. I can't have you risk this entire case beca-"
"Because what? Because I can't see the woman I love die? Because I don't want to think of her being hurt by the very man we're hunting down? I don't want her to end up as another picture on that board, Voight. Not when I've spent this long looking for her. Not when I've just found her."
Jay's eyes burned with fresh tears, his skin heating a deep red as he let his emotions bubble free, as he confessed and let his yearning out into the open.
She was so close. So close, only to feel like she was a lifetime away.
"You didn't find her," Voight's voice deepened, his tone stern as he crossed his arms over his chest, "I did. And she only agreed to come back for this case."
"Then let me go with her," Jay drew closer to Voight, eyes darting down the same hall Aurora disappeared. "Let me go, let me keep her safe. Let me be close to her again, just this one time. Just one more time before she leaves again."
Voight knew why he brought Aurora back, he had wanted this too. He had wanted to bring back Jay and Aurora together and see if they could heal each other.
But not like this.
He had hoped that after the case was done, Aurora might decide to come back and stay. That if she did, then she and Jay could once again navigate the parameters of their relationship.
He simply hadn't expected this.
He hadn't expected to see their raw wounds and conflicted minds, their silent longing and stubborn hearts.
But maybe this was exactly what they needed.
Maybe this was what Jay needed.
This could be the start of a new chapter for the pair, or it could be the closure they had denied themselves.
"Fine. Kevin's going to debrief you - you make sure you're ready for this Jay. You have an hour. If you're not, then it won't be Volkov you have to worry about, because you'll be the one that gets you and Gallo killed."
Jay nodded solemnly, a crushing weight lifted off his shoulders. He might have hurt Aurora, but he was repenting and would seek forgiveness until the end of time. Until then, he would not allow another to lay a hand upon the woman he loves.
Voight watched as Kevin steered Jay towards his office, turning to Adam to instruct him on getting an alias and outfit prepared for Jay. They didn't have long to prepare him, but they would do all they could to ensure the operation ran smoothly.
For now, Voight would have to break the news to Aurora and hope she didn't rescind her offer to help altogether.
Throughout it all, it did not go unnoticed how Hailey found her home in the paperwork before her once more, her harsh words once ignored and her burning gaze ceremoniously ignored.

Home for Christmas
They might not be home for Christmas, but they'll always have Christmas at home.
Good morning! Or afternoon/evening/night/whatever it is wherever you are. I meant to have this one done by Christmas. That didn't happen, so we'll consider this that gift you find hidden behind the tree five days later. I started out not really knowing what I wanted this to be. I wasn't sure if I wanted it to be all fun, a little angsty, sickeningly sweet, flirty, have sexual content- so I kind of said… all of the above? Basically the only thing I didn't do was attempt to write a case because, blech. So yeah, enjoy! I hope you all had a great holiday season with whatever or however you celebrate!

Broken Bonds-Part 30
Greg "Mouse" Gerwitz x Reader, Jay Halstead x Hailey Upton, Coparenting Jay Halstead x Reader
With a ticking clock there are no rules when it comes to Jay and Mouse finding you and Hailey
Warnings: TORTURE, MENTION OF RAPE (NO RAPE) LOTS OF VIOLENCE
The sound of Mouse’s cell phone ringing was nearly too loud in the marshal office. The guy Gwen had just dragged in was yelling from the holding but somehow the simple ring of his phone seemed louder. He glanced at the screen and the moment he saw Jay’s name he felt his world screech to a stop. He glanced at the time, ten forty five. The meeting was over. If Jay was calling…
“Jay” he answered and heard the other man take a ragged breath “Greg…” no no no, if Jay was calling and if Jay was using his real name? “Please tell me she’s not dead Jay. Please” he begged and Jay breathed “Greg….they took our girls” “Who took our girls?” he asked, eyes meeting Xavier’s across the floor as he grabbed his gear and headed for the stairs. He heard his team one by one falling in step behind him before he ever hung up with Jay.
He looked over his shoulder at them all. “I don’t have clearance to go, you could be risking your jobs” Gwen shrugged “This is Kidd we’re talking about. Let’s fucking go”
“You fall in line and there aren’t any rules” he told them before heading down the stairs not looking to see if they followed. He had to get to the twenty first. The more time passed, the harder it would be to get a lead. Not finding them was not an option.
The drive across town, hell he wasn’t sure if any light he rolled through was red or green. You were in danger. Some assholes decided they were gonna put their hands on you, hurt you, take you. He wasn’t here the last time you needed him, he was now dammit and nothing would keep him from finding you.
The moment Mouse parked his truck in front of the precinct he grabbed his gear out of the seat and stormed up the steps. Sure enough his entire team had followed him. The moment he stepped in the door Trudy looked up at him from her place behind the front desk, he could see tears in her eyes “Mouse, you and Jay bring them home” he nodded, knowing she needed him to sound certain “We will” she hit the button to pop the gate leading up to intelligence and he didn’t waste any time, taking the stairs two at a time.
The moment he hit the top of the stairs every set of eyes turned towards him. It seemed like Jay and Voight were mid conversation but he could’ve given a damn less “Tell me we have any damn thing we can track Jay. Give me something” Voight looked at him “Mouse, you can’t be here” he cut his eyes at Voight “Me and Jay honestly don’t need the unit or my team. More hands and eyes just come in handy. Are you gonna help us get them back or stand in the damn way? I’ve got five marshals here to help your unit, take the help and get your detectives back or we’ll do it ourselves”
Voight raised an eyebrow then nodded “I’ll get it cleared for your team to be here. You and Jay run point” Mouse nodded then looked back at Jay who told him “Kev’s running the plates. We got Phillip Jones in custody, best we can tell his brother Eric and his goonies grabbed them. We’re thinking they’re gonna contact for a trade” Mouse nodded and looked back at Gwen “Take the back stairs, tell Kevin you’re part of my team. Take over running these assholes down. Let’s find them before they ever have a chance to try to make a trade. Send Kevin up”
Gwen disappeared through the door Mouse pointed her in the direction of and Jay bumped his shoulder and leaned in “How solid is your team?” he nodded “Solid” “Like we can take Phillip down to the cage?” Jay asked and he nodded “Yeah, they’re that solid”
Jay looked back at Voight who nodded once “Do what you gotta do, I got the rest” that was pretty much clearance to do anything and everything. Him and Mouse had done some shit and that was for men in their unit but this? This was for the women they loved. This was for Addy. This was for everything that mattered, nothing was off limits.
Kevin walked back through the door about that time and Mouse cut his eyes at Jay before saying “Kev, go to fifty one and pick up Stella and Kelly. She needs to know” Jay nodded then breathed “After that I need to ask something of you that you aren’t gonna want to do” “What’s that?” Kevin asked and Jay shrugged one shoulder “Sit out of this? I need Addy safe and who better than her mom’s best friend. I need you to stay with her and Stella until we bring the girls home”
Kevin looked from one of them to the other “I can’t do nothing” Jay shook his head “Protecting Addy is everything” he nodded slowly “Promise me that you two aren’t stopping at nothing” Mouse nodded “You know us Kev. They’re coming home”
___________________
“What do you mean she’s been kidnapped?” Stella’s voice shook as she looked from Jay to Mouse. Kelly moved to put his hands on her shoulders and she shrugged him off. “Where the fuck is my little sister?” Jay swallowed hard “We’ll get her back Stel”
Stella’s head whipped towards him “How the fuck did you lose her? How does a decorated army ranger, decorated detective manage to lose two fucking women on a damn undercover?” “There’s a lot of moving parts to things” Mouse tried and Stella scoffed “You’re defending him?”
Kelly pulled her back against his chest “Baby, you’re upset. You’re saying stuff you don’t mean” her hands shook and tears were shining in her eyes when she said “Just please get her back Jay. She’s my little sister. Don’t make me bury her and you know she loves Hailey too. Get em back, they both believe in you” then she looked at Mouse “My little sister loves you, get her back”
She took a deep breath, visibly resigning herself to the fact that this was reality not some horrible dream then said “I’ll take vacation time and keep Addy home until you get them back. Don’t worry about her. Just concentrate on my sister and Hailey, ok?” Both men nodded so she turned to Kelly and Kevin “Let’s go”
They watched her walk out and Jay took a deep breath “Thank you” “For what?” Mouse asked and Jay shrugged “For defending me even if I don’t deserve it, I was right there man…a few steps too slow…” Mouse shook his head “Don’t fucking go there Jay. I need your head on straight. Don’t think about what you could’ve done. Think about what you’re gonna do when you get those son of a bitches that have them in front of us”
Pain wasn’t a stranger to you. Hell in your life of work, you’d been shot, stabbed and in a couple car wrecks. That was all since joining intelligence. You could handle pain, it was the burning that made consciousness rush back into you with a scream being ripped from your lips.
“Looks like this one is awake, what about blondie?” you fought against the pounding behind your eyes to force them open. Blondie...Hailey? Memories of what happened flooded back to you. You’d run right into it, worse than that was Hailey had followed you step for step. You’d never seen those damn guys or those fucking shock sticks.
The last thing you could remember was Eric Jones telling someone to “Shoot that damn guy” was Jay ok? Where was Hailey? Hell where were you? The moment you managed to get your eyes open you were face to face with a man that was taller than Kevin and twice as broad “Damn, what did your mama feed you?” you blurted out and he chuckled “Oh I like her, she wakes up feisty”
You shrugged, looking around the room and cutting your eyes up to see you were chained by your arms to a pulley system that was attached to the roof. Explained why you couldn’t currently feel them, also why your feet were barely touching the floor. “Unchain me and I’ll show you just how feisty I am asshole” he grinned “Oh she’s gonna be fun. Is blondie awake yet?”
About the time he said it you heard Hailey’s voice and it sounded like she was waking up in the same mood as you. You glared at the mountain of a man in front of you “Sounds like it” he chuckled “See, my boss is wanting his brother back. He’s gonna use you two to do so. The thing is that doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun in the meantime”
You felt your stomach churn at his words and it must have shown on your face because he shook his head “Oh no dear, we’re not animals. We wouldn’t take that from you…we just want to break you down in a little teeny tiny heap so when CPD releases Phillip they get piles of their detectives back. That way they know the Jones brothers are indeed untouchable”
“How do you plan a trade if we’re dead?” you asked and he grinned “Who said you’ll be dead?” and backhanded you across the face hard enough if you hadn’t been hanging by your arms you probably would’ve flown across the room. The coppery taste of blood filled your mouth and you turned your head to spit it out onto the floor “Should I start here with you or go to Blondie first?” you were shaking from a mixture of pain, adrenaline and fear as you said “If you touch her just remember I will get down from here eventually and when I do I will break your fucking neck”
“Tsk tsk tsk Detective. You’re in no place to make threats” you spit out more blood, damn your teeth must have sliced the inside of your mouth “Not a threat, it’s a promise I will make good on”
____________________
Hailey could hear you, she knew you were close. She couldn’t exactly call for you because you both didn’t know if these assholes knew your identities beyond being detectives for intelligence. When she heard you tell one of them that if they hurt her you’d break their fucking neck her eyes flew to the men in the room with her.
You had to stop fighting so hard. She could take it. She’d handled worse. You and her could make it through this. The unit would come, you just had to stay alive until then and you trying to take the focus off her wasn’t happening. The man in the room with her eyed her, your initial observation of “Damn what did your mama feed you?” was pretty fucking accurate. Where the hell did the Jones brothers get these men?
“She your girlfriend or something?” he asked and she grinned “Or something” he nodded “You gonna let her take everything to keep it off of you?” she shook her head “Not on your life asshole” and he grinned “Always loved the fact that women are always stronger than men. They take twice as long to break” “Lucky us” she breathed, turning back towards the sound of your voice. She had no idea of knowing how much time had passed since you and her had been taken. How close the unit was to finding you two or what had happened to Jay.
Hank walked down the stairs with Xavier next to him, both men pushing Phillip in front of them. Mouse and Jay stood on either side of the cage. Hank shoved Phillip in then looked at Jay and held the keys out “You two got five minutes, make it count”
Xavier looked at Mouse “I got the exterior door. No one is coming in” then he walked off. The man had the nerve to smirk at Jay “What’s wrong Jack did ya lose Veronica and Vivian?” Jay unlocked the cage and pushed the door open wide enough Mouse could walk in behind him. “I’m gonna ask you one time and one time only where would your brother take them?”
“Fuck you” Phillip told him and was met with a hard punch from Mouse. Jay nodded towards him “Did I mention one of the women your brother took was the woman he loves?” Phillip spit out a mouth full of blood, a tooth amongst it and shrugged “Let me go and you may see them again”
Jay cut his eyes at Mouse and held his hand out, Mouse laid his knife in it “Last chance. Give us a location” “Fuck you” Phillip repeated. “Suit yourself” Mouse told him and nodded to Jay who didn’t hesitate to slam the knife down into Phillip’s left hand, pinning it to the bench. Phillip let out a blood curdling scream as Jay leaned down face to face with him “A location, now”
“I don’t- I don’t know” Phillip tried and Mouse grabbed the handle of the knife and twisted it “What was that? Talk up Phillip!” Phillip groaned “There’s three places! Three places! He’ll have them in one of those”
“Good boy. Luckily you’re right handed so here ya go” Jay handed him a sheet of paper and pen “Write quick and he’ll get the medic from his team down here to patch ya up before you pass out”
He scribbled down the locations and Jay nodded then snatched Mouse’s knife out of his hand “Good talk Phillip” Mouse nodded “Very lucrative for us all” the two walked out and Xavier walked back in, eyeing the puddle growing under Phillip as Jay locked the cage “Guessing I should get Jonah?” Mouse nodded “Yeah, asshole doesn’t deserve to bleed out” then looked at Jay “We gotta get Gwen running these then we need teams hitting them all”
“What if he has more addresses?” Jay asked and Mouse shrugged “We hit every damn property he owns until we find them” Jay nodded “We gotta move fast and hit every damn place hard” Mouse nodded “We know how and we will. They fucked up laying a hand on her and Hailey”
Your ribs were aching, you were fairly certain you were losing circulation in your hands and your jawbone may very well be cracked or at the very least bruised deeply They’d given you one hell of a beating already. You heard the room next to yours open and knew they were going in on Hailey next “LEAVE HER ALONE DAMMIT! PLEASE, HURT ME NOT HER!” you screamed, groaning from the pain as tears slipped down your face.
You heard Hailey’s voice cut through the wall “STOP FIGHTING SO MUCH. I CAN TAKE IT” and flinched when the first blow landed on her. Tears streamed down your face as you listened to them beat her like they had you.
_____________________
Hailey took the beating, grunting when they hit her and tears flowing again when she heard your sobs. This would be how they broke the two of you. She could take the hits, she couldn’t take hearing your pain and knew you couldn’t take hearing hers. They would use you against each other. The worst part was they didn’t even have any real use for the two of you beyond pawns to try to get Phillip released. This? This was just a bunch of sickos playing.
When they finally got tired and walked out of her room she sagged in her chains. “Hails?” you spoke lightly and she swallowed hard “I’m here babe” she could hear your voice shake “They’ll find us” “I know”
“Hit it fast and hard. Don’t give them time to alert anyone in case this isn’t the place with the girls. If it’s not we hand it over to patrol and move the hell on” Jay told the group and Voight cut his eyes at him “Unless there’s an issue. If so everyone go home and we got this because out of everyone I trust him to have my back and if goes both ways”
“Jay, we’re with you” Adam told him and Kim nodded. Gwen looked at Mouse “Let’s get Kidd and Upton back” the group surrounded the first location, waiting on Jay’s command. “Take it”
“CPD! US MARSHAL” The call sounded out and doors were kicked in. The guards inside didn’t have time to run. The group of men and women they had backing them were slamming them down left and right. They left them to cuff them while Jay and Mouse moved through the house, clearing it.
When it came up empty they moved back into the living room where Voight had gathered all the perps. “Who’s in charge” Mouse asked and no one replied so Voight kicked one of the men in the side and he grunted then pointed at one man “He is”
“Asshole” the man cursed as Mouse and Jay snatched him to his feet. “Kitchen?” Jay asked and Mouse nodded. Voight looked back at the team “Stay in here” then followed the two into the kitchen, hanging back.
Mouse looked towards the stove “Oh look Jay, gas stove. Actual fire” Jay nodded and looked towards the man they were dragging between them “This asshole has a pyro streak. Picked it up in Kandahar Valley. The problem with electric stoves?” They dragged him over to the stove as Mouse turned one of the burners on high, the flames flickering up as he said “The burners man. It’s too clean. Actual flames. They fucking melt skin”
They both grabbed one of the man’s shoulders and held him down over the flames, just close enough the smell of burnt hair from his beard filled the air. Mouse leaned down close to his ear “Your boss Eric Jones?” The man nodded, eyes wide. “Does he have a place where he takes hostages?”
“He’ll kill me man?” Mouse looked at Jay “Did you hear that? Jones will kill him” Jay nodded then shoved the man down just enough the flames burnt through his beard and he screamed in pain as his chin blistered then they pulled him up. Jay leaned in “Eric is not your biggest worry. You’re here so you didn’t actually have anything to do with. You can get by with a felony arrest. If you don’t tell us where your face is going down in this flame and I will fucking hold you in it until you stop kicking and swear we found you like that”
The man looked between them then nodded “It’s about an hour north..I…I can show you on on a map” Mouse slapped him on the shoulder “Attaboy!” then snatched him up by the burnt part of his beard “Let’s go”
You passed out at some point and when you came to you were being taken down from the roof and chained to a wall instead. You grunted from the pain in your side as they dropped you to the hard concrete floor. “What’s wrong killer, don’t tell me we already broke ya? I wanted you to keep some of that fight?” the man in front of you said. The way he looked at you made your skin crawl, then he reached to push your blood soaked hair back from your face “Not all of us have Dominic’s views on things. That fight may be fun, especially if we can rub that into CPD” you flinched away from his touch and glared at him “Go to hell” he grinned “Uh oh. There’s killer” and winked at you.
He walked out and a few minutes later Hailey’s limp body was dragged in and chained to a wall opposite you. You waited until the men who’d bought her in walked out then moved a little closer to her, straining your eyes to see if she was breathing.
The slight rise and fall of her chest as a reassurance. If she was here, in the room with you that meant you could protect her. If this was all a play against CPD to get their attention to get Eric out, you would get their eyes on you the next time Dominic came in. After all, someone who loved you more than anything worked for the marshal service. Using you, hurting you could get the attention of both branches. They didn’t need to hurt her.
___________________________
You sat in the quiet, listening to her stir and knew she was fully awake. You’d made your decision and had come to peace with it. You just needed her to now. This was the only way for either of you to make it out of this. That slimy guy said “Not all of them” that meant more than one of them went against Dominic. How long could he keep it to Physical abuse?
You’d already endured more than you ever thought you could. These men had beat every inch of your body to the point of near breaking before they had stopped. How your heart was still beating and how you were still drawing breath was beyond you.
“Hailey” you barely whispered her name but knew she heard you because of the slight flinch “Yeah Y/N?” you turned towards her as far as you could, the pain in your side feeling like it was tearing with every movement “Hails promise me you’ll be there for Addy” her head rolled to the side to face you, one of her eyes was nearly swollen shut but the other bright blue and wide as she stared at you “Always but why wouldn’t you be?”
You swallowed hard “I have to think about her instead of myself. Jay needs you coming home. I can’t break his heart again. So if it comes to me or you, get the hell out of here and get home to him and my little girl. Be a mom to her please” she shook her head, tears falling “I won’t leave you. I can’t face her and know I left her mom. I can’t look Greg in the eye and know I left you. You can’t ask me to leave you” you wrapped an arm around yourself, grunting from the pain but managed to get close enough to grab her hand “Hailey, I love you. I know you love me. I’m asking please if you get a chance, get out. Live for us both. Take care of my daughter, help Greg get on his feet. You’re so strong. They need you. I need you to live please live for me”
She squeezed your hand “If I get a chance, I’m taking you with me. There’s no future for me without my wife in it. We’re a family, family doesn’t leave each other behind”
You shook your head, tears falling “Listen to me dammit. Their goal is to completely destroy us. I can’t let that happen to you if I can stop it” she squeezed your hand “I am not leaving you, no matter what. We face whatever comes together”
“This is the place,” Mouse spoke, looking around at the team. “Surround it. Hit it hard. No one walks out alive” Voight ordered and everyone nodded. The teams going in were Gwen with Jay and Mouse. Jonah and Xavier with Adam and Kenny and Kim with Voight.
“If you can make it hurt, even better” Jay added then cut his eyes at Mouse “Let’s do this”
___________________
Jay and Mouse moved together through the halls. The two men didn’t have to speak, they knew where each other was, on feeling alone. “Two offenders down” Mouse called over the radio, stepping over the bodies of the men he and Jay just killed, their blood still drying on his hands.
“From the blueprints I pulled the cellars are at the end of the hall” Gwen spoke low and both men nodded. She moved first, opening the door and they moved in, shoulder to shoulder.
________________
You flinched at the first sound of gunfire “Hailey” you whispered, trying to nudge her and she nodded “I know” the door burst open and you would’ve preferred Dominic. It was the slimy guy. He looked from you to Hailey and smiled “Don’t have long but might as well have a little fun” you felt adrenaline rush into you and knew it hit Hailey too because despite your injuries you were both on your feet.
_______________
There was a door at the end of the hall that was open and they could hear fighting coming out of it. They ripped it open to find a man on the ground while you and Hailey had chains that appeared to be hooked to your hands wrapped around his neck, choking him.
Mouse called your name and Jay called Hailey. You both looked up and the moment you spotted them, collapsed. Gwen moved in, shooting the man without question and dragging him away from the two of you. Jay and Mouse started to step into the room but the moment they did you and Hailey curled into each other as far as your chains would let you.
They froze at the door. Mouse locked eyes with you “Sweetheart?” you barely met his eyes and shook your head “Please Greg” he nodded and hit Jay’s arm then tapped his com “We need you Kim” his eyes stayed on you but him and Jay didn’t come any closer.
Gwen slowly moved towards you and Hailey and the two of you let her unchain you but still didn’t move from your corner, wrapped around each other. Kim came running into the room and looked at them then at the two of you then ran over to you. “Oh my god” she crouched down in front of you and then looked back “Call a bus, specify we want Brett and Foster”
Mouse and Jay were forced to stand by while you and Hailey allowed Kim and Gwen to help you to stand and slowly make your way upstairs. A total of seven hours had passed. What had you two endured in that time?
They followed behind, watching as you and Hailey sat on the couch in the house, flinching if any of the men got close. Mouse had a pit in his stomach growing larger every time you or Hailey flinched.
Kim looked up and met his eyes and shook her head “No rape” she mouthed then squatted down next to Hailey while Gwen was squatted next to you. That took one horror off the table but the physical proof was still there.
The ride back to Med Jay was close enough to the ambulance Kim had called with a message from Emily of “Get off my ass Halstead”
Mouse and he both refused to let you and Hailey out of their sights. It didn’t feel like you were safe. Not yet.
The hospital had already been called. Maggie, Nat and April were waiting to be in charge of yours and Hailey’s care and Goodwin had ensured you wouldn’t be separated from each other. That was all they could do for now.
_________________
Once they got to Med they both rushed in behind the stretcher but were stopped outside of trauma which they knew would happen. “Stay here. I’ll update you” Maggie promised.
The door closed and they were left on one side while you and Hailey were hurt and terrified of even their touch on the other. They barely registered their teams or Will walking up. “How are they?” Will asked and Jay shook his head “I don’t know” “They couldn’t bring themselves to even let us touch them” Mouse added.
Voight tapped both of them on the shoulders and they cut their eyes at him “Can we talk?” “Here” Jay replied so Voight looked at the rest of the group and Will nodded “I’ll buy everyone a coffee”
Once it was just the three of them Jay looked at Voight “How big of a mess is this?” Voight shook his head “What mess? You were working a joint task force, took down a crime ring and rescued our detectives. Good job” then looked towards the room “They’ll come out on the other side, those two are strong” “They look so damn broken” Jay whispered and Voight shook his head “Nothing is stronger than a woman’s will”
A few hours passed before their teams trickled out, telling them to call if they needed anything. The two didn’t move. You and Hailey got transferred to a private room together but had been sedated to allow for your bodies to rest so they simply followed the two of you to the private room.
It wasn’t until about six the next morning that Maggie approached them “Jay, Mouse” they glanced up from the seats they were sitting in and she held up two bags and pointed behind her to Voight and Adam “I have clothes for you two. You’re covered in blood and scaring the hell out of everyone in my hospital. Please let Hank and Adam watch over them for a few minutes and clean up”
They nodded slowly, standing to take the bags. “Don’t let anyone but Maggie, Nat or April in” Jay told them and Adam nodded “Believe me, I’m listening to you two. No offense but you both kinda scare me now” Mouse shrugged “Don’t mess with the two in that room or Addy and you have nothing to worry about”
______________
They were almost back to the room when Jay’s phone rang and he pulled it out of his pocket and saw it was Stella. They’d called to let her know they’d got you back. He stopped and motioned for Mouse to get closer before answering “Hey Stel, what’s up?”
He could tell she’d been crying even if she was trying to make her voice sound cheerful “Hey Jay, is there any way I can video call you and Mou so little Miss can be assured that you two are ok and making sure mommy and Hayhay are getting their booboos checked?”
Mouse nodded so Jay said “Yeah, I’ll hang up” he hung up and half a second later the video call alert came through. Him and Mouse locked eyes and took a deep breath before he swiped to answer it. Stella and Kevin’s face was first in the screen “Hey Jay” Stella greeted and he nodded “Hey Stel”
Kelly came walking up to the couch behind her with Addy and sat her down in Stella’s lap. Addy smiled big when she saw him “Hey daddy!” “Hey baby” He greeted then turned the screen so she could see Mouse too and she giggled “Hey Mou!” “Hey sweetheart” Mouse greeted.
Both men were working to keep their emotions in check and that proved to be a feat when she asked “Where’s mommy and hayhay?” Mouse swallowed hard then said “They’re asleep sweet girl. They were tired” she nodded “I stay with Aunt Stel and Uncle Kelly till mommy and hayhay not hurt?”
Jay nodded “Yeah baby, you’re gonna get to stay with Aunt Stel and Uncle Kelly. Daddy loves you so much. So does Mommy and Hayhay” “And Mou” Mouse added and Jay smiled, tears in his eyes that he blinked away “And Mou”
She nodded “Kay daddy. Love you! Love you Mou” then shoved the phone at Stella and wiggled down to go chase Kelly. Stella watched her then looked back at the screen, tears in her eyes “She’s ok, we got babygirl. You two get our girls healed up,you got me?” they nodded and she cut her eyes at Jay who shook his head “We’re good Stella” she smiled “I love you two idiots. I hope you both know that” they nodded “We do. Take care of Addy” after she hung up they headed back to their posts outside of yours and Hailey’s room.
You were semi conscious. Nat was giving you both pretty strong sedatives to combat panic attacks but Maggie had let you stay together. You reached out and could brush your hand against Hailey’s your beds were close enough.
@desimarie12
You knew without looking that Mouse and Jay would be right outside of the door but you both couldn’t do that yet. It was too much, too soon. Hailey called your name lightly and you turned your head to look in her direction, she was already looking at you “Told you we’d make it out together” you smiled slightly “Now we have to face it together” she reached out for your hand and you slipped yours into hers, she squeezed yours lightly considering neither of you had a lot of strength at the moment. “For now, let’s just go to sleep” she whispered and you smiled “Deal”

Exciting ||Jay Halstead x Daughter and reader
Jay has to take his daughter to work for the first time and he’s not excited about it.
For the one that voted Jay x daughter on the poll (this is not a Christmas story though)
Jay wasn’t comfortable with the idea of taking his 4 years old daughter to work, but seemed like luck was not on his side. The girl was on vacation, Y/N was on a work trip, the nanny got sick, Will was on shift and the little girl’s grandparent’s couldn’t take care of her all day long, so he had no choice. He called Voight, who with his raspy voice and without any problem said “Bring her.”
He sighed, “Ok, baby girl. You are coming to work with me today” He notified his little daughter who was sitting with her short legs hanging from the couch.
“To the police station?” Her eyes were shining bright out of excitement.
“Yea”, her dad chuckled. “Mommy will pick you up later, when she comes back home from her trip, ok?”
“Okay. I am excited!” Excited was the last feeling she learned in school and from then on she would use it for everything.
“I am excited too”, he lied, he was more nervous than anything. “Go get your backpack”, he ordered and when she was gone he muttered to himself, “I’m already running late”
It wasn’t common to take one’s son or daughter to the bullpen, but is wasn’t so strange either. Voight and Al had done it in the past with their kids; Burgess and Adam had done it with Malayla too, even Kevin had to take his little sister from time to time. This was the family Hank talked about.
Jay went upstairs with a small pink and shinny backpack with unicorn form on his arm, making a funny contrast with the gun hanging from his hips.
“Where’s the baby girl?” Adam said when he saw his friend arriving alone.
“Platt stole her from me”, he answered. He would have arrived even later if he had waited for Trudy to give her back to him. Kim smiled at the image.
“We haven’t seen her in a while”, Al peeked his head from his hidden desk to participate in the conversation, “A bit of her cheerfulness will do good to this place”
“Well, she is, and I’m quoting, “very excited” to see you all”, the proud dad smirked.
But as much excited as she was, the baby Halstead was very shy to even say good morning to them. As soon as Trudy Platt carried her upstairs, the girl ran towards her father as fast as she could.
“Why are you crying?” Jay asked in a very low voice, while sitting her on his lap.
But the one answering the question was Platt, “She started to worry when she noticed you weren’t around downstairs and then silently started crying”
Ashamed, the little Halstead girl hugged her dad’s neck and buried her face on his shoulder. A chorous of “aw” was heard around. This wasn’t what she expected, visiting the police station didn’t make her feel excited after all.
“It’s alright”, Jay kept whispering into her ear. It was only after a few minutes later that she calmed down, but even when she was acting as if nothing had happened, she was still embarrased.
Al passed by from the coffee room to his desk and handed a coockie to the girl. She hesitated on accepting it, she first turned to her dad who nodded in approval and she stretched her tiny arm to take it.
“Precauted girl. Good”, Olinsky smiled at her and she smiled back.
“Why don’t you take your colors and get to work in your coloring book, hm?” Jay said more like an order as he put her down. He couldn’t really advance in his work if she was there right beside him.
They walked to an unoccupied desk right infront of Adam. The girl climbed the chair as her dad took her belongings out of the unicorn backpack, “There you go. I’ll be right there if you need me. Remember to…”
“…be quiet, shhh” his daughter completed.
She stayed there for a while, coloring different pages. The detectives, specially Kim, would praise her artistic work whenever they had to walk by her side. She liked Kim, that woman was funny, but she couldn’t really take her eyes off of the man who had gave her the cookie: Alvin Olinsky, but he was too busy to noticed.
“Daddy”, she silently stood up an whispered, trying not to distract the people around, “I don’t want to color anymore. I want to draw”
“Uh, let me check if I have something for you to—“
“I have some white sheets in here”, Hailey opened a drawer and handed a bunch to the Halstead girl. She liked Hailey too, she had a bright smile.
“How do you say?” Her father encouraged her before going back to her place.
“Thank you, Hailssss”
She was immersed in her own world, drawing, coloring and cutting. She stood up to get closer to Adam and touched his leg to call his attention.
“How do you write ‘I love you’?” She asked the detective.
“Oh!” He took a notebook and a pen, “Very easy, let me just show you”
Jay looked up to witness the scene, altough he couldn’t hear any word they were exchanching, “Hey, sweetie”, he called out, “Let Ruz work, ok?”
“No big deal” His collegue said handing her the sheet.
A few minutes later, the little girl stood up once more to go with her father. She stretched her hand to hand him a very colorful circle of paper.
“Wow! Is this for me?” Jay exxagerated his emotion, and then melted when he read the phrase ‘I love you’ followed by a crooked heart.
With excitement, she explained it was a cup holder: “Yea, you can put your mug there”. Following orders from such a smooth voice, Jay placed his mug over the gift.
“Just what I needed” He kissed her head. When she withdrew of his side, Jay immediatly took the paper with the witten phrase and placed it in a spot where he was able to see it all the time.
Before going back to sit on her chair, the girl passed by Al’s desk and stood next to him staring, until he finally noticed.
She took him by surprise, a cute surprise, “Hey, you scared me!” That made her laugh.
“What do you like the most?” The kid asked wothout any other introduction, “Ducks or unicorns?”
Detective Olinsky took his time to answer the question. He observed that Halstead’s daughter was wearing a T-shirt full of unicorns, her pink shinny backback also had the shape of a unicorn, so he went by that, thinking it would be the correct answer.
“Unicorns, I love unicorns”
But she didn’t had the reaction he expected, instead she sadenned, “Oh! I was going to draw a duck for you”
Being in a space close to Olinsky, and paying attention to what his daughter was doing all the time, Jay listened and couldn’t help to smile to the reaction of his parter.
“Oh, well, I love ducks too!” Alvin tried to amend his error.
“A duck, then?”
“Yea, a duck!”
And she moved her tiny legs as fast as she could. Both detectives shared a look and laughed.
It didn’t pass a lot of time when the girl was next to Olinsky’s chair again, but this time he noticed. Without speaking, she handed to him the drawing of a duck happily swimming in a lake.
“What? Is this for me?” She nodded. There was something peaceful in his voice that she liked. “Thank you very much! I really love it. What’s this?” He pointed to a brown circle tha was close to the animal. The answer make him smile showing his teeth.
“A cookie”
“Well, this masterpiece deserves to be in a special place” The detective took a bit of tape and pasted the drawing where it could be seen by everyone.
Little Halstead ran to his father to tell him what just had happened.
“That’s not fair!” Adam teased her later on the day. “I want my own drawing too! I showed you how to write that phrase, you gotta remember that!”
“It will have to be another day”, Jay intervened. “Time to pick everything up, your mom’s on her way to pick you up”
“Mommy’s back?” She asked with the same bright eyes she had when realizing she was going to the police station.
“Yeah!” Her dad smirked.
“I am excited!” She stated while putting her stuff back into the backpack.
“Say goodbye, time to go. Mommy’s downstairs”
She waved her little hand to everybody in the bullpen, “Bye bye”. She even peeked her head into Voight’s office, “Goodbye, Serge”
“You are leaving already? Goodbye, little one” Hank said in a very friendly tone, “Come back soon, whenever you want”
She laughed at the idea, “I will”
It was a bit hard for her to walk down the stairs. “Do you need help?” Jay asked with his arms opened to carry her and she jumped to him.
As soon as she spotted Y/N at the desk with Trudy she yelled at her. Jay put her down on the floor when the stairs were over and his baby ran towards her mom, who picked her up in a tight hug.
“Mommy!”
“Ugh, how much I missed you” Y/N said covering their daughter in kisses.
“Me too!”
“Did the detectives threated you good?” Trudy asked, “How was your day at daddy’s work, hm?”
Wothout hesitating and with a lot of emotion, the girl answered “Oh! It was exciting!”
