If we stop, the world stops
Millions of women around the world participated in events for International Women’s Day (IWD) on March the 8th. The most militant action was in the growth of the ‘Women’s Strike’, with 5.3 million people on strike in Spain. In Britain, the interest in the tactics of the strike on IWD is relatively new, yet still 7,000 women pledged to strike. In addition, links were made to grass roots unions such as the Cleaners and Allied Independent Workers Union (CAIUW) with support for their pickets for a Living Wage. Sex workers also co-ordinated their own actions for decriminalisation and trans women held an action over the problems of access to NHS services.
The organisers in Britain made it clear that the strike should focus on demands for working class women, including those who often face the most exploitation and discrimination, like migrants, sex workers, trans women. It is not just a strike about traditional work but also about ‘invisible labour’, such as care, domestic and emotional labour, and against male violence. The historical origins of the day make it clear that the purpose is not to have more women politicians or company directors (see box). Instead it is focused on the majority of women who are at the bottom of the pile, both in the workplace and in the home. According to one organiser of the Women’s Strike in Britain: “We are instead taking action – action against our exploitation under capitalism, where the domestic and emotional work we do for little or no pay is made invisible, while austerity measures force us into a more and more vulnerable position. This is feminism for the 99%”.
It was in Spain, however, that the strike was the most successful. This was partially because of the support it got from the mainstream unions. However, it is clear that they were forced into support as a result of the massive upsurge from the grass roots organisations. According to one source (thefreeonline.wordpress.com): “An important feature of this strike is that it has been promoted and organised from the bottom up, and not the other way around. That is to say, the initiative of the strike has been born first in the streets, in the neighbourhoods and districts and has developed in open assemblies. It has not been a proposal of the unions, but of the feminist movement.” The mainstream unions only called for a 2 hour strike whereas unions such as the CGT and the anarchist CNT called for 24 hour stoppages.
Despite calls for the strike to be based on working class women, it is uncertain to what extent many women could actually participate, given that they are the ones in the most precarious position. In Spain, headlines were given to women in media and other professional jobs. In Britain, the strike was most successful in the universities, with 61 universities taking part. However, the link to CAIWU and sex workers showed that there certainly was support outside the universities.
If women are to truly win all the demands put forward on the day then we must go beyond demands for equality in the system and call for both the end of capitalism and patriarchy. So how is this going to happen? The strike in Spain may have been very successful in terms of numbers on the streets but what will it achieve in terms of winning demands? Politicians and even bosses may pay lip service to the aims of IWD but they are unlikely to do anything about it. In the end, using the success of March the 8th, women and men must continue to organise at the grass roots level and build up a movement that lasts much longer than a day. The linking up of a number of groups on the 8th provides a good basis on which to move forward.
Origins of International Women’s Day
March 8 is International Women’s Day. This date commemorates March 8, 1909, when 129 employees of a cotton textile factory in New York were killed when their own owner set fire to the factory while all of them were inside making a protest demanding labour rights. In addition, the colour of feminism is violet because, it is said, the smoke that came from that fire was violet, like the fabrics that were there that day. At an International Congress of Socialist Women in 1910, Clara Zetkin proposed this date as the International Women’s Day in honour of the cotton workers.

Covid-19: nurses concerned amid summer upsurge - Published Aug 16, 2024
Most nurses are worried about the ongoing impact of Covid-19 on health and care services in the UK amid an apparent summer wave of cases, a Nursing Times poll has found.
In a snap survey of almost 550 nursing professionals, 85% said they had noticed a rise in cases in their workplaces over the last few months.
Six in 10 (61%) said they were worried about how Covid-19 was currently impacting health and social care services.
A bigger proportion – 77% – said they were concerned about how Covid-19 will affect services this coming winter, when pressures generally tend to be higher.
One primary care nurse in England said: “It’s rising and I worry if we don’t become preventative now it could affect our ability to provide a service.”
The survey findings come as the World Health Organization (WHO) warned earlier this month that Covid-19 was “still very much with us” and that cases had been rising globally.
It said new waves of infection had been registered in Europe, as well as the Americas and the Western Pacific.
Available statistics in the UK also point to a potential upward trend in Covid-19 cases over May, June and July.
However, with testing and data collection being much more limited than they were earlier in the pandemic, Nursing Times wanted to ask nursing professionals for their direct experiences.
The survey responses suggested a big variance between organisations in terms of approaches to Covid-19 prevention.
Of the nursing staff who took part in our poll, 61% said there were no longer any specific Covid-19 prevention measures in their workplaces.
For those who did still have some precautions, these varied from testing all patients for Covid-19 before a hospital admission and then weekly, to only testing patients if they have symptoms.
In terms of personal protective equipment (PPE), some said they wore masks for all face-to-face patient contact, others said PPE was only used when dealing with confirmed Covid-19 cases or if they had the virus themselves.
One NHS hospital nurse in Scotland said: “No masks unless you are coming to work with Covid. No precautions if you have no symptoms. It’s quite shocking.”
However, nurses were divided on whether there should be a return of more Covid-19 precautions, although more than half were in favour.
In total, 58% said they would welcome more Covid-19 prevention measures in their workplaces, 19% said they would not welcome them and 22% were unsure.
One hospital nurse from Scotland felt standard infection control procedures, which were in place before Covid-19, were sufficient.
They said: “There is more than enough. Wards get closed if one person has it and they’re not really ill so it feels like overreacting, it causes more disruption.
“Infection control procedures are enough in most cases.”

Market Dynamics of Payment Instruments: Opportunities and Challenges
The global payment instruments market was valued at USD 111.97 billion in 2021 and is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14.3% from 2022 to 2030. The growth is expected to be driven by the increasing digital payment platforms such as mobile banking, personal finance management, and digital wallets. The growing development of non-cash payment instruments such as mobile wallets, credit cards, and smart cards is anticipated to further fuel the growth. Moreover, the widespread availability of smartphones has led to the increasing use of mobile wallet applications, thereby contributing to the growth of the industry.
The rising digitalization in the banking sector has fueled the development of digital payment systems, thus increasing the demand for mobile wallets among others. The rise in digital transactions has reduced bank operation costs, eventually boosting market growth. Several banks, such as Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and others, have seen an upsurge in the usage of digital banking. For instance, in the U.S., bank loan sales accounted for 61% via digital channels in Feb 2021 compared to the previous year.
The growing consumer preference for cashless payment as it offers convenience is anticipated to increase the demand for payment instruments over the forecast period. Moreover, the rising adoption of digital payment among the younger generation further boosts the growth of the market. According to a survey conducted by Business Wire, 71% of the Gen Z population across the globe prefer cashless payment solutions and 68% of millennials have adopted cashless payment methods.
Payments Instruments Market Report Segmentation
The desktop segment accounted for the largest revenue share of over 39.0% in 2021. The growing integration of payment gateway platforms within the desktop by payment instrument solution providers is anticipated to drive the growth of the segment.
The retail & e-commerce segment accounted for the largest revenue share of more than 22.0% in 2021. The growth is attributed to the rising popularity of online shopping and consumers' preference for cashless payment.

BASICS OF ISLAM : Allah ( God Almighty ) :What are the Benefits of Zakat on Society?. Part3
ZAKAT LIBERATES SOCIETY FROM INTEREST
Interest has come to be an essential method of exploitation for the happy minority in their quest for greater wealth.
While attempting to establish a society where benevolence reigns, it is inevitable that an effective antidote be applied to extirpate interest, to its very last residue, to prevent the upsurge of many social predicaments.
God, the Almighty, has explicitly forbidden all types and forms of interest, the chief catalyst in causing the rich to become richer and the poor to become poorer—repudiating the common notion that interest increases wealth.
The Qur’an, which had aimed to put end to the widespread use of interest and liberate the believers from its fetters, again, makes use of the principle of gradualness, which was discussed earlier:
That which you give in usury in order that it may increase on people’s property has no increase with God; but that which you give in charity, seeking God’s countenance, has a manifold increase. (Rum 30:39)
Though, on the surface, wealth may seem to increase with interest, in actual fact, it fails to deliver prosperity which is, instead, promptly taken away by the Creator and replaced with gradual deterioration. Riba, the Arabic term for interest, holds various meanings, almost all of which are negative, like destruction and devastation; and it also refers to something that carries with itself misfortune. A sharp comparison is made above between, on the one hand, riba or interest that bestows the wealth perennial depreciation and, on the other, sadaqa, the prime inviter of prosperity. What’s important is the actual prosperity bestowed by God on the riches, not the ostensible increase. Seeing that God has given this assurance, it is unthinkable for Him not to realize this assurance, and He will perpetually shower prosperity on wealth out of which sadaqa is given, as confirmed by a copious amount of verifications. Abandoning all forms of interest and embracing sadaqa is a key step towards realizing social justice.
Interest contributes to an apparent increase in wealth but this increase is nothing but a veil put over its eventual depreciation. The above verse, through comparison, implicitly alludes to h o w sadaqa generates a prosperous economy for a society, as opposed to the overall deterioration caused by interest, in the purest sense of the word.
The Qur’an, by introducing the prohibition on interest, slowly prepared the early Muslim society for the  total acceptance  of zakat, by articulating how  the Jews, due to partaking in forbidden interest, were deprived of many things which were otherwise previously permissible:
Because of the wrong-doings of the Jews, We made unlawful for them certain good things which were otherwise lawful; and because they hindered many from God’s way, and of their taking usury when they were forbidden from it, and of their devouring people’s wealth by wrongful means. (Nisa 4:160-1)
O you who believe! Do not live on usury, multiplying your wealth many times over (as compound interest). Have fear of God, that perhaps you may be successful. (Al Imran 3:130)
This last revelation proved to be an unambiguous declaration, comprising serious threats for indulgers in interest:
Those who swallow usury shall rise up (from their graves) before God like the men whom Satan has bewitched and maddened by (his) touch, for they assert that usury is just like trading, although God has permitted trade and forbidden usury. He that receives an admonition from his Lord and mends his way may keep what he has already earned; his affair will be determined by God. But those that return (to usury) will be the rightful owners of the Fire. They will abide there forever. God blights usury and makes almsgiving fruitful; He does not love the impious and the guilty. Those that believe and do good works, and establish salat and pay zakat will be rewarded by their Lord; and no fear shall come upon them, neither shall they grieve. O you who believe! Have fear of God, and give up what is still due to you from usury, if you are true believers. And if you do not, then be warned of war (against you) by God and His Messenger. If you repent you may retain your principal (without interest). Wrong not, and you shall be not wronged. And if the debtor is in straitened circumstances, then grant him a postponement until a (time of) ease; but if you remit the debt as almsgiving it will be better for you, if you did but know. (Baqara 2:275-80)
As stated above, God and His Messenger deem interest-oriented transactions as a reason to wage war, which in effect, means an exile from Divine Mercy for the rebellious perpetrators. By retorting,
“Shall I bow to him (Adam) whom You have made of clay?” (Isra 17:61),
Satan had become the first rebel through his denouncing the Divine Command. Such a  seditious demeanor, therefore, iscommensurable with that of Satan’s who ultimately was branded with the curse and expelled from the Eternal Compassion of God.

Despite rumours, Russia hasn’t had an outbreak of coronavirus-related diseases
Concerned public think that the cases of COVID-19 in Russia are allegedly hidden behind coronavirus-related diseases and complications, first of all, pneumonia. If so, the death toll from this disease was to have skyrocketed in the first quarter. However, as Realnoe Vremya’s analytic staff found out, the rumours seem to have no foundation. Official mortality data earlier this year even decreased compared to 2019 — as of February 2020 (more recent summarised data isn’t available yet). And though the pneumonia mortality rate in Russia is comparable with the COVID-19 rate in Iran — it also reduced compared to last year.
uelledNo mortality upsurge earlier this year
The Ministry of Health Care issued temporary methodical recommendations on 12 April, according to which amid the growing coronavirus incidence any flu case should be considered as suspected of COVID-19 depending on the epidemiological background. Microsoft 365 ipad. This fuelled the rumours that the cases of death from the coronavirus are hidden behind similar diseases — pneumonia, acute respiratory infection or flu.
In this context, Realnoe Vremya’s analytic staff decided to study the latest currently available mortality statistics — particularly to find out what happened to the acute respiratory infection and pneumonia death toll. Such data is now available until February 2020 — and despite some rumours, some of them suggest that there wasn’t registered a mortality upsurge in Russia either in general or because of acute respiratory infection or respiratory diseases.
Over the first two months in 2020, 307,000 people died in Russia — this is 5% less than a year ago. Cardiovascular diseases (almost half, 145,000 cases), tumours (48,000 cases), external causes of death (21,300 cases), diseases of the nervous system and digestive organs (about 17,000 cases each) are the main causes. Multiple remote desktop windows 10. There are 5-10% fewer deaths in the first three cases compared to last year’s analogous period, in case of the nervous system and digestion — 10% and 2% more.
As for specific diseases that caused death, coronary heart disease with 75,400 deaths is first. Malignant tumours (47,000) are second, cerebrovascular diseases with 44,000 cases come next. There are 5-11% deaths less.
Twice fewer people died from acute respiratory infection and flu than from COVID-19
Descargar vlc para macos catalina. There were relatively few deaths from the flu and acute respiratory infection in January and February — just 95. Most importantly, this number significantly decreased over the year — 197 people died from these diseases during the first two months in 2019. So we can assume here that if there were patients with non-diagnosed coronavirus among the dead people, this didn’t lead to a higher mortality rate — January and February were average.
It is noteworthy that the acute respiratory infection death toll in general is comparable with the number of coronavirus deaths in Russia or, more precisely, the difference isn’t big. 148 people died from the coronavirus in Russia as of 13 April (approximately a month since the death of the first patient in the country).
At the moment this indicator isn’t very high (though the number during the month is already 1,5 times higher than the number over two months in the case of the flu and acute respiratory infection). To understand it, now fewer people have died from the coronavirus in Russia than in January and February from accidental drowning (202 people), poisoning and alcohol intake (314 people).
Pneumonia deaths in Russia like coronavirus deaths in Iran
6ff5ce 365. Apart from the flu and acute respiratory infection, there is another disease that can be disguised as COVID-19, especially if the coronavirus isn’t diagnosed — it is pneumonia. However, there wasn’t registered any growth in January-February compared to last year too. 4,125 people died from pneumonia in Russia during the first two months in 2020. It is 15% less than during the analogous period last year.
We should remind you that the first death from the coronavirus in Russia was registered only on 19 March — so there is no coronavirus case among these 4,100 deaths (at least according to those diagnosed). Nevertheless, it is interesting that the death toll even from usual pneumonia in Russia is comparable with, for instance, with the coronavirus mortality rate in Iran. The first death was registered there on 21 February, during almost two months the indicator rose to almost 4,500 people. We also should note that more people died from pneumonia in Russia in January-February than from coronavirus in his “homeland,” in China, over three months since the first death: 3,341 people died from COVID-19 in China as of 13 April, while the first death was registered on 9 January.
The COVID-19 death toll nowadays in some countries is comparable with the pneumonia mortality rate in Russia in January-February. For instance, it is Belgium (3,900 deaths since first death on 11 March), Germany (3,000 deaths since 9 March), the Netherlands (2,700 deaths since 6 March). However, it is important to understand here that generally speaking such indicators accumulated in these countries not during two months but over a month since the first coronavirus death. This is why it is more correct to compare this indicator with the pneumonia death toll a month. In Russia, 1,929 people died from pneumonia in February 2020. It is more than from the coronavirus in less than a month since March 17 in Turkey (1,198 people), Brazil (1,230 people from the same date), Switzerland (1,115 people from March 5). So, with the proper level of containment of the epidemic, regular pneumonia in Russia claims more lives than the coronavirus in these countries.

2020 Flu Deaths Worldwide
10k deaths from respiratory diseases in two months
Videos For 2020 Flu Deaths
This comparison, of course, should not cause vain hopes or carelessness. In the leading countries in terms of mortality, the figures are much higher (and the population in most of them is lower, so the per capita mortality rate is, of course, ahead of the Russian rate of pneumonia). Besides, the key difference that makes the coronavirus “no more dangerous than regular pneumonia” is the transmission rate. The mortality rate from COVID-19 is not a stable result, consisting of many days with approximately the same number of deaths, they tend to increase significantly, despite all the efforts being made to contain the epidemic — as a result, they lead to very significant peaks. For example, on the highest for Italy peak day by death toll — March 27 — the figure was 919 people, in France on April 7 the death toll a day reached 1,417 people, and in the United States on April 10 — 2,035 people died from coronavirus. That is, on April 10, more people died from coronavirus in the United States than in Russia from pneumonia over the entire February.
However, we would like to note that if we count not only deaths from pneumonia but also from other respiratory diseases (this includes, for example, the flu, acute respiratory infections and other respiratory diseases), the death rate for the first two months of 2020 in Russia is 10,300. This figure is less than a year ago by 11%. However, in general, this death toll is comparable, for example, with the coronavirus death toll in the UK (10,600 deaths from COVID-19 since March 5) and France (14,400 people).
The situation with the dynamics of mortality from respiratory diseases is quite heterogeneous. While the national figure has decreased by 11%, there are cases of quite significant growth in some regions. For example, Ryazan Oblast with an increase in the pneumonia death toll by 46% (from 106 a year ago to 155 in January-February this year), the figure has jumped by 35% in Mari El (from 74 to 100 deaths), by 29% — in Kalmykia, by 25% — in Ulyanovsk Oblast and Kaluga Oblast, by 23% — in Moscow Oblast (while in Moscow itself it has fallen by 16%). There is also growth in Tatarstan — by 16%. At the same time, in some regions, the mortality rate from respiratory diseases has decreased significantly: in Sevastopol — by 61%, in Magadan Oblast — by 48%, in Kurgan Oblast and the Komi Republic — by 43%.
By Maksim Matveyev, Realnoe Vremya’s analytic staff
What was claimed
First Death Of 2019-2020 Flu Season Confirmed In LA County
The flu killed 64,000 people in 2018.
Our verdict
Incorrect. 64,000 people died in January 2018 in England and Wales of all causes. Public Health England estimates that across the 2017/18 flu season there were around 22,000 deaths associated with flu in England.
A block of text making comparisons between the number of deaths from flu and the scale of the Covid-19 pandemic has been shared on Facebook.
The text claims that “a real pandemic would be self-evident” with “bodies piling up on the street”. It adds: “The flu killed 64,000 people in this country in 2018, and you didn't bat an eye.”
This figure for flu deaths is far too high, and Covid-19 meets the definition of a “real pandemic”.
What counts as a pandemic?
The outbreak of Covid-19 across the world certainly meets definitions of pandemics that we’ve come across.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) says flu pandemics specifically are characterised by human-to-human spread of the virus in at least two countries within the same WHO region and “community level outbreaks in at least one other country in a different WHO region.”
More generally it says a pandemic is the worldwide spread of a new disease, and that aspect of novelty is also shared by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with respect to flu pandemics.
The Oxford Dictionary of Epidemiology says a pandemic is “An epidemic occurring worldwide or over a very wide area, crossing international boundaries, and usually affecting a large number of people.”
Figures from Johns Hopkins University suggest that over 43 million people worldwide have contracted Covid-19, with over one million deaths.
While Covid-19 is not the deadliest disease the world has ever seen, in part the death toll has been kept down due to worldwide restrictions on behaviour that could cause the virus to spread more quickly.
And while the UK has not seen incidents of “bodies piling up on the street”, if that is the Facebook user’s criteria for defining a pandemic, it has arguablybeenmet elsewhere in the world.
How many people die of flu?
As for the claim that the flu killed 64,000 people in the UK (where the post’s author says they are based) in 2018, this is incorrect.
The only reference we’ve found to a UK figure like that in connection with the 2018 flu outbreak, is that in January 2018 around 64,000 people died in England and Wales, at the time the highest monthly total since 2006.
But this figure was for England and Wales and covered deaths from all causes, not just flu.
2020 Flu Deaths Worldwide
Public Health England estimated that over the 2017/18 flu season, there were around 22,000 deaths associated with flu in England. This was one of the highest flu death tolls in recent years, but is still significantly lower than the current death toll from Covid.
It’s possible that the post might be mistaking the number of deaths in the UK for a figure from another country. In the USA, the CDC estimates that 61,000 people may have died in the 2017/18 flu season, which again was the highest number in recent years. The CDC estimates so far that there have been 211,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the USA.
2020 Flu Deaths In Washington State
This article is part of our work fact checking potentially false pictures, videos and stories on Facebook. You can read more about this—and find out how to report Facebook content—here. For the purposes of that scheme, we’ve rated this claim as false because the flu did not kill 64,000 people in 2018.

My article “Why is Everything Liberal?” has gotten a great deal of attention. See in particular thoughtful commentary from Bryan Caplan and Robby Soave at Reason.
This post is a followup, with two main goals. First, I’ve discovered additional evidence that liberals care more about politics, which I will just add on to what already was an extremely strong case.
Second, some people criticized the piece for not addressing what has changed recently. I think I’ve found the answer to that too, which is that the mobilization gap increased precipitously in 2016. It is at that time that we see Democrats overtake Republicans in fundraising, liberals overtake conservatives in signing petitions, and the left’s already sizable lead in protesting become much larger. While it seems that liberals have always cared more about politics if we are looking at the tail end of the distribution–i.e., those who become activists, journalists, or academics–it is only in 2016 that we see more noticeable and significant gaps open up in the next level down in the pyramid.
Since 2016, liberals have achieved true mass mobilization in a way conservatives never have in the modern era.
In 2016, fewer than 1% of conservatives had been to a protest in the last year, compared to 15% of extreme liberals, 10% of regular liberals, and 5% of the slightly liberal. Even moderates, at 2.4%, protested more than conservatives. Remember, this was before the Women’s March and the peak of BLM! The estimates for protest size used in the original post were pretty crude, but it’s nice to see self-reported data match what we see in the real world. Petitions tell the same story, but the differences are not as extreme: 61% of very liberal individuals had signed one in the last year, compared to just 26% of the very conservative.
Liberals already tended to protest more in the years leading up to 2012. But conservatives used to at least hold their own. This matches what we know from the real world, as this was the height of the Tea Party. Glenn Beck’s largely forgotten “Restoring Honor Rally” in summer 2010, for example, drew a lot of people, though nobody really knows how many. Wikipedia says “a scientific estimate placed the crowd size around 87,000, while media reports varied wildly from tens of thousands to 500,000.” This was also the time of Occupy Wall Street, so liberals weren’t exactly sitting on their hands, but conservatives at least made a showing. By 2016, conservative protesting had collapsed to practically nothing, while liberal protesting stayed at similar levels or, more likely, increased (hard to know for sure because of the time frame of the 2012 question being different).
In 2012, liberals were more likely to sign petitions than conservatives, but the gap was pretty small and there were many more conservatives in the country, which meant the right actually had more total people signing petitions. By 2016, more Americans than before were calling themselves liberals, and liberals were more mobilized, giving the left a substantial advantage.
Another thing we can do to see how relative mobilization has changed over time is to look at campaign donations. In the previous essay, I went all the way back to 2012, and showed that for every recent presidential election cycle Democrats brought in more money. I didn’t go back to 2008, as I was sure Obama outraised McCain, and I was of course right.
However, if you expand the analysis to midterm elections and all federal candidates, we see the Democrat advantage does not open up until 2016. Here are numbers I’ve gathered from Open Secrets for every election from 1990, as far back as data go.
In response to my piece, Ezra Klein argued that liberal domination of institutions was better explained by age and education polarization than liberals caring more. This is an argument I’ve seen him make elsewhere before (see also this and this from Josh Barro on Woke Capital).
Romney won college educated whites by somewhere between around 5% and 15%, while according to CNN’s 2020 exit polls, Biden won the same demographic by 12%. CNN actually has Trump barely winning college educated whites in 2016 (48%-45%). Education polarization is real, and the fact that college educated whites vote something like 15-30% more Democrat than they did in 2012 should be having some effects on board rooms and the larger mobilization gap. Yet educational differences do not seem nearly massive enough to explain the total liberal domination of institutions, as Republicans hold their own well enough with degree holders.
As far as the age gap, it can cut both ways. When I was growing up in the 1990s, the stereotype was that retirees had a lot of time on their hands and were therefore politically powerful, while young people were largely indifferent. Old people certainly have more money, and so you’d expect age polarization to actually give Republicans an advantage in donations. Yet since 2016 the trend has been the opposite. As parties have polarized more by age, Democrats have started winning the competition over fundraising. Maybe young people are inherently more likely to protest, but wouldn’t you expect old people to be just as capable of signing petitions? Thus, I’m pretty confident that age and education gaps are less important than the simple fact that liberals care more about politics.
The left has always had an advantage in committed activists. Yet, no matter whether you look at donations, protests, or signing petitions, the mobilization gap increased in 2016. Liberals had always protested more, but in 2016 the ratio was absolutely massive, being around 3.7x larger than it was around the time of the invasion of Iraq. This was before an upsurge of liberal protest activity that has included BLM, March for Our Lives, and most importantly, the Women’s March. Finally, the parties raised about an equal amount of money from 1990 until 2016, when Democrats took a lead that has now lasted three straight election cycles (2008 was an exception to the rule of parity in the pre-2016 era, when Democrats ran a fresh faced Barack Obama against John McCain, who seemed good at exciting Republican elites and MSNBC pro-war centrist types but not actual voters).
So what about “Woke Capital”? In many ways, business was the last domino to fall. Yes, liberals have always had more noisy activists, and corporations tended to bow to them on some issues when they got really agitated, like MLK day. But big business is more directly answerable to a wider swath of the population than are schools or non-profits, and so held out the longest. Coca-Cola and Walmart care more about what the median citizen thinks than does Harvard, The New York Times, or the ACLU. Yet after 2016, when the mobilization gap exploded, almost nothing in society could remain neutral, and pressure has come from both within and outside corporations for them to take a stand on almost all hot button issues.
Why was 2016 the year everything changed? Take a wild guess.
Just as the previous post raised further questions, this one does too. The most interesting thing to me is not simply protests and donations, but why one side has for over half a century now drawn more idealistic people who want to dedicate their lives to changing the world. The journalist-academic-activist complex is ultimately where power lies, and it has grown much stronger in the last 5 years because it has started to engage many more people at the intermediate level in the mobilization pyramid, among those who give money, sign petitions, and go to protests, and who find themselves between true elites on top and the mass of the largely indifferent voting public at the bottom.
If the rise of Trumpism explains the last five years, why did the left begin with such a strong built-in advantage? I hope to explore this question soon.
Moreover, right-wing protest culture has collapsed since the time of the Tea Party. It’s hard to know for sure, but other forms of conservative activism may have fallen off too. So even the degree to which Trump has actually mobilized the right must come with a caveat: he has turned out more Republican voters and gotten more people to donate small amounts of money, but few seem to want to make more substantial sacrifices, even compared to 2012.
Overall, the Trump era has provided mixed electoral results for Republicans. They won unified control of government in 2016, lost the House but kept the Senate in 2018, and came extremely close to winning again in 2020. Yet it has been an awful 4 years for conservatives who care about controlling institutions, or at least keeping them neutral, although even here it hasn’t been a complete loss. After all, the Trump era has given conservatives a comfortable majority on the Supreme Court, probably the most important single institution of all.
Federal court appointments last until death, while the widening of the mobilization gap is relatively new. Best case scenario for Republicans is that Amy Coney Barrett and Brett Kavanaugh live for a very long time, while the Trump era ends up being an anomaly in mobilizing the left to an unusual degree, with things going back to something resembling the pre-2016 historical norm. Worst case scenario is that things continue as they have for the last 4 years, with anti-Trump hysteria combining with the Great Awokening having created a class permanently mobilized for confronting racism and other evils, plus Republicans not even getting the mobilization on their own side that Trump gave them. A generation shaped by the experience of Trump and a party currently led by such uninspiring figures as Kevin McCarthy and Liz Cheney may end up giving conservatives the worst of all worlds.

Virtual battle in Belarus as VPN become crucial weapon against dictatorship
Tumblr media
By Ray Walsh
Totalitarian governments understand the power of the internet for cultivating dissenting opinions and providing the opportunity for citizens to orchestrate protests against the state. In recent years, elections in places as diverse as Uganda, Kenya, Bahrain, Cameroon, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Iraq, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and Ukraine have been marred by internet blackouts, website censorship, and the blocking of social media and messenger services.
In total, around 30 countries have experienced internet restrictions due to the unrest caused by controversial or downright rigged elections. The aim of the game for those oppressive regimes is to prevent an upsurge of dissenting opinions and stop citizens from being able to successfully mobilise demonstrations and political opposition.
Belarus is the latest country suffering at the hands of government-imposed blackouts. On August 9th, following an exit poll in which it became clear that President Lukashenko would successfully retain the presidency, the government decided to engage in internet blackouts across the country.
For around 61 hours, large-scale blackouts caused social networks, instant messengers and search engines to become nearly completely inaccessible. Lukashenko's government claimed that those blackouts had been caused by a cyberattack originating from outside of the country. Despite these implausible claims, however, most experts agree that the timing of the blackouts indicates government involvement.
Even before the exit poll was released, citizens across Belarus had been engaging in protests. Citizens were well aware of the likelihood that Lukashenko would once again fix the presidential election. And in the month running up to the vote, large numbers of activists and journalists were actively rounded up and jailed to prevent them from speaking out.
With the strength of feeling against Lukashenko at boiling point - and citizens already protesting even in advance of the election results - the government must have been aware that it was going to face unprecedented levels of backlash. The timing of the internet blackout, which was set to occur alongside the results of the exit poll, suggests premeditation.
Throughout Belarus, the reaction to the government-enforced backouts has been one of shock. Leading proponents from Belarus' IT sector, including 300 Belarusian tech developers, executives, and investors have signed an open letter stating that the conditions caused by the blackouts were highly damaging to the tech sector and that the continuation of ongoing police violence would cause it to flee abroad. Early estimates from activists have claimed that the disruption to the nation's infrastructure, including digital banking and online shopping, has already caused losses of around $56m per day.
The chaos caused by the coordinated internet blackouts reveals that Lukashenko is desperately scrambling to retain his stranglehold over the nation. Despite his claims on Monday that he would be willing to call new elections and hand over power following a constitutional referendum, most observers agree that in reality the president will not do so without a fight.
Unfortunately for Lukashenko, the internet restrictions have not been enough to discourage the widespread demonstrations happening across Belarus. Ten days since they began, the protests are still going strong and have even begun attracting the support of groups and enterprises traditionally supportive of Lukashenko.
Russia has stated that it would be willing to offer military support if necessary, but there is a growing feeling that the protests have revealed too much weakness in Lukashenko's regime - meaning that even Putin’s support may now dwindle in favour of other options.
The fear of further internet restrictions is causing mass gravitation towards virtual private network (VPN) services. Leading VPN provider, Hide.me, has noticed an 84% increase in citizens accessing its VPN in Belarusand there are similar reports of VPN downloads skyrocketing from other providers.
The rush for VPNs, which citizens can use to bypass localised internet restrictions and website blocks, reveals that internet users are ramping up their efforts to protect themselves against government-imposed blackouts. They understand that the internet is a vital tool, not only for communicating and escaping the information vacuum but also for evading violent police.
VPNs are a pragmatic tool that give citizens the opportunity to bypass internet service provider (ISP) enforced internet blackouts. They also permit them to access information critical of the government without being tracked and monitored. This is critical considering Lukashenko's willingness to incarcerate dissenters.
However, it is worth noting that a VPN can only help in cases where websites and services are individually restricted. It will not provide relief if Lukashenko decides to completely pull the plug on the internet. With that in mind, Belarus could be approaching increasingly concerning conditions. The only real question now is just how far Lukashenko is willing to go to retain his control.

After stopping working to obtain a resolution passed on the topic, Alger Hiss, the Secretary General of the meeting, recommended using a declaration to establish such an organization. Sze and other delegates lobbied and a declaration passed requiring a global conference on health. Making use of words "globe " instead of "international " emphasized the truly global nature of what the organization was looking for to attain. Its first legislative act was worrying the compilation of precise stats on the spread and morbidity of illness. The logo of the THAT features the Rod of Asclepius as an icon for healing. In 1958, Viktor Zhdanov, Deputy Minister of Health for the USSR, gotten in touch with the Globe Health and wellness Assembly to embark on a worldwide effort to eliminate smallpox, resulting in Resolution WHA11.54. At this moment, 2 million individuals were passing away from smallpox annually. In 1967, the WHO increased the global smallpox obliteration by contributing $2.4 million each year to the initiative and took on a brand-new illness monitoring technique. The preliminary problem the WHO group dealt with was inadequate coverage of smallpox cases. WHO developed a network of experts who aided nations in establishing security and containment tasks. The THAT likewise assisted include the last European outbreak in Yugoslavia in 1972. After over twenty years of battling smallpox, the WHO declared in 1979 that the condition had actually been eliminated - the initial disease in background to be gotten rid of by human initiative. he adhering to is a chronology of the WHO starting in 1967: In 1967, the WHO launched the Special Program for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases as well as the World Wellness Setting up voted to pass a resolution on Special needs Prevention and also Rehab, with a concentrate on community-driven care. South Africa the land of Xenophobia.
By Mubarak Ajah Obiahu.
The word xenophobia is made up of the Greek words 'xenos', which means strange or foreigner, and 'phobos', which means fear so the word ‘Xenophobia simply means  ‘the fear of strangers or foreigners.
Some reasons for xenophobia.
The fear of foreigners can be attributed to one of the reasons responsible for having negative thinking about the foreigners and this can lead citizens to see strangers or foreigners as someone who have  come to reign chaos in the homelands , competition for jobs because of the incoming 'aliens'. The locals, along with the already existing competition, have to further face steep odds owing to the influx of foreigners. Even in case of the ones who are already employed, replacements are available, rather easily. Thus, foreigners might be a threat to their jobs. Foreigners are seen as a threat to the local heritage and legacy. The migrations result in sharing of resources, including the natural ones, which can lead to a stress on the economy and the general lifestyle of the natives. Hatred is passed along among the locals. Along with this, the hatred towards foreigners can be a reciprocated reaction when the roles were reversed, there might be a bad egg among the good but generalizing one negative experience from one foreigner or a bunch of them, and applying it to every stranger or foreigner leads to Xenophobia.
Xenophobia in South Africa since 1994 till date.
Most of us  think xenophobia started yesterday or last week in south Africa but hell no xenophobia has been one of the trending topics in South Africa and it has continued to gain media attention throughout the world with everyone asking why some South Africans go that far as to attack their fellow Africans because they are foreigners allegedly taking over local jobs and history has it on record that the current xenophobic attacks are not the first of its kind. As in past years, it has occurred and continues to happen.
Prior to 1994, immigrants from elsewhere faced discrimination and even violence in South Africa. After majority rule in 1994, contrary to expectations, the incidence of xenophobia increased in South Africa Between 2000 and March 2008, at least 67 people died in what were identified as xenophobic attacks. In May 2008, a series of attacks left 62 people dead; although 21 of those killed were South African citizens. The attacks were motivated by xenophobia. In 2015, another nationwide spike in xenophobic attacks against immigrants in general prompted a number of foreign governments to begin repatriating their citizens. A Pew Research poll conducted in 2018 showed that 62% of South Africans viewed immigrants as a burden on society by taking jobs and social benefits and that 61% of South Africans thought those immigrants were more responsible for crime than other groups.
Despite a lack of directly comparable data, xenophobia in South Africa is perceived to have significantly increased after the election of a Black majority government in 1994. According to a 2004 study published by the Southern African Migration Project (SAMP).
The ANC government – in its attempts to overcome the divides of the past and build new forms of social cohesion ... embarked on an aggressive and inclusive nation-building project. One unanticipated by-product of this project has been a growth in intolerance towards outsiders ... Violence against foreign citizens and African refugees has become increasingly common in south Africa and communities are divided by hostility and suspicion.
According to a 1998 Human Rights Watch report, immigrants from Malawi, Zimbabwe and Mozambique living in the Alexandra township were "physically assaulted over a period of several weeks in January 1995, as armed gangs identified suspected undocumented migrants and marched them to the police station in an attempt to 'clean' the township of foreigners. "The campaign, known as "Buyelekhaya" (go back home), blamed foreigners for crime, unemployment and sexual attacks.
In September 1998, a Mozambican national and two Senegalese citizens were thrown out of a train. The assault was carried out by a group returning from a rally that blamed foreigners for unemployment, crime and the spread of AIDS.
In 2000, seven foreigners were killed on the Cape Flats over a five-week period in what police described as xenophobic murders possibly motivated by the fear that outsiders would claim property belonging to locals.
In October 2001, residents of the Zandspruit informal settlement gave Zimbabwean citizens ten days to leave the area. When the foreigners failed to leave voluntarily, they were forcefully evicted and their shacks were burned down and looted. Community members said they were angry that Zimbabweans were employed whilst locals remained jobless and blamed the foreigners for a number of crimes.
In 2005 and first week of 2006, at least four people, including two Zimbabweans, died in the Olievenhoutbosch settlement after foreigners were blamed for the death of a local man. Shacks belonging to foreigners were set alight and locals demanded that police remove all immigrants from the area.
In August 2006, Somali refugees appealed for protection after 21 Somali traders were killed in July of that year and 26 more in August. The immigrants believed the murders to be motivated by xenophobia, although police rejected the assertion of a concerted campaign to drive Somali traders out of townships in the Western Cape.
Attacks on foreign nationals increased markedly in late-2007 and it is believed that there were at least a dozen attacks between January and May 2008.The most severe incidents occurred on 8 January 2008 when two Somali shop owners were murdered in the Eastern Cape towns of Jeffreys Bay and East London, then in March 2008 when seven people were killed including Zimbabweans, Pakistanis and a Somali national after their shops and shacks were set alight in Atteridgeville near Pretoria.
2008 South Africa riots Part of the history of South Africa
Result 62 people died and several hundred injured, voluntary deportation of immigrants to home countries, destruction of immigrant-owned property.
On 12 May 2008 a series of riots started in the township of Alexandra (in the north-eastern part of Johannesburg) when locals attacked migrants from Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe, killing two people and injuring 40 others.
In the following weeks the violence spread, first to other settlements in the Gauteng Province, then to the coastal cities of Durban and Cape Town. Attacks were also reported in parts of the Southern Cape, Mpumalanga, the North West and Free State.
In May 2009, one year after the attacks, the City of Cape Town said it would apply for an eviction order to force 461 remaining refugees to leave two refugee camps in that city
The attacks were condemned by a wide variety of organizations and government leaders throughout Africa and the rest of the world.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees expressed concerns about the violence and urged the South African government to cease deportation of Zimbabwean nationals and also to allow the refugees and asylum seekers to regularize their stay in the country.
Malawi began repatriation of some of its nationals in South Africa. The Mozambican government sponsored a repatriation drive that saw the registration of at least 3 275 individuals.
In late May 2009, reports emerged regarding a possible resurgence of xenophobic related activity and the organizing of attacks in the Western Cape. Reports of threats and secret meetings by local businessmen surfaced in Gugulethu,Khayelitsha and Philippi, Cape Town. Samora Machel in Philippi once again emerging as a flash-point.In Gugulethu, reports emerged of secret meetings by local businessmen discussing 'what to do about Somali shopkeepers'. The Anti-Eviction Campaign brought these issues to the open by organizing a series of anti-xenophobia meetings attempting to find the root cause of the crisis.
In November 2009, a community of 1500-2500 Zimbabwean farm workers was forcibly evicted from their homes in the informal settlements of De Doorns, a grape-farming town in the Western Cape. No persons were physically assaulted but homes were trashed and looted and this led to the biggest displacement of foreign nationals since May 2008. The Zimbabweans were then housed in a displaced persons' camp where some remained for a year until it was closed. Researchers identified the role of a ward councilor, Mpumelelo Lubisi, in inciting the attack in possible collusion with informal labor brokers who had financial interests in getting rid of their Zimbabwean competitors. South African workers also accused farmers of employing the Zimbabweans at less than minimum wage (farmers and Zimbabwean workers denied this).
On 30 May 2013, 25-year-old Abdi Nasir Mahmoud Good was stoned to death. The violence was captured on a mobile phone and shared on the Internet. Three Somali shopkeepers were killed in June 2013 and the Somali government requested the South African authorities to do more to protect their nationals. Among those murdered were two brothers who were allegedly hacked to death. The attacks led to public outcry and worldwide protests by the Somali diaspora, in Cape Town, London and Minneapolis.
On 7 June 2014, a Somali national, in his 50s, was reportedly stoned to death and two others were seriously injured when the angry mob of locals attacked their shop in extension 6 late on Saturday. Three more Somalis were wounded from gunshots and shops were looted.
After another round of xenophobic violence against Somali entrepreneurs in April 2015, Somalia's government announced that it would evacuate its citizens from South Africa.
In April 2015, there was an upsurge in xenophobic attacks throughout the country. The attacks started in Durban and spread to Johannesburg. Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini has be accused of fueling the attacks by saying that foreigners should "go back to their countries".
Locals looted foreigners' shops and attacked immigrants in general, forcing hundreds to relocate to police stations across the country. The Malawian authorities subsequently began repatriating their nationals, and a number of other foreign governments also announced that they would evacuate their citizens. More than 300 people were arrested. On 18 April 2015 a photographer from the Sunday Times, James Oatway, photographed a brutal attack on a Mozambican man. The man, Emmanuel Sithole, died from his wounds. Four suspects were arrested within days of the publication of photographs in the edition of 19 April of The Sunday Times of the murder of Mozambican street vendor Emmanuel Sithole in Alexandratownship the previous day. Sithole's name is not included in the official list of seven victims killed in the April 2015 attacks, including an Ethiopian, a Mozambican, a Bangladeshi, a Zimbabwean and three South Africans who were all killed in KwaZulu-Natal.
In October 2015 there were sustained xenophobic attacks in Grahams town in the Eastern Cape. It as reported than more than 500 people were displaced and more than 300 shops and homes looted and, in some cases, destroyed altogether. In these attacks Muslims were specifically targeted.
The Grahams town xenophobic attacks that took place on 21 October 2015, and coincided with the Fees Must Fall protest at Rhodes University, lasted for several days.
On 21 October 2015 taxi drivers attacked plaza shops owned by Pakistani, Somali, Bangladeshi and Ethiopian residents of Grahams town. There was a mobilization of people by the taxi drivers, with the aim of attacking and looting shops owned by foreigners. There was a rumour that insinuated that foreigners were responsible for the rampant murders in town: that an "Arab man had killed and mutilated women" around town and that the police had not done anything to address these rumours. Grahams town residents in the townships were angry at the police for not doing anything to dispel the rumours, despite having been warned by the councillors that the residents might end up taking the law into their own hands. Thus, it was these rumours that incited the attacks on foreigners.
On 23 October, the Makana Municipality held a town meeting at City Hall. The meeting was focused on how the municipality and the South African police would pacify the residents and address the situation. During that meeting, there was no representative from the police and one of the ward councilors further legitimized the attacks through xenophobic sentiments center on not giving foreigners a platform to have their own shops. The attacks continued, with taxi drivers transporting looters for free, according to the residents of Grahams town.
Reports from the residents allege that the police's attitudes were that of indifference, with some participating in the looting. The policing of the attacks was elitist as there was a line on Beaufort street which pointed out where looting would be tolerated and where it would not be. Thus, looting was allowed in the township and not tolerated in town. The police only pacified the situation and restored order after a week of attacks and looting. The xenophobic attacks in Grahamstown differed from the usual xenophobic attacks in South Africa as the ones in Grahamstown were mostly targeted at Muslims. The main reason why Muslims were targeted was mainly due to the rumour that an Arab man was responsible for the murder of women in the town.
From 20–23 June 2016 a wave of riots hit the City of Tshwane. Although the riots were sparked by political discontent within the ANC .Somali, Pakistani and other foreign owned shops and micro enterprises were targeted for looting and a number of foreigners were attacked.
On Friday 24 February 2017 a large scale and officially sanctioned anti-immigrant protest was organized and held in the Pretoria. Protesters marched to the Foreign Ministry and handed a petition to government representatives. Protesters accused immigrants of taking jobs from South Africans, causing crime and complained that "they are arrogant and they don't know how to talk to people, especially Nigerians."136 protesters were arrested during the march.
On the 25 March 2019 xenophobic riots targeting African immigrants broke out in Sydenham, Jadhu Place and Over port areas of Durban. Around one hundred people attacked businesses owned by foreign nationals resulting in around 50 people seeking shelter in a local police station and mosque. Three people were killed in the riot.A speech given by President Cyril Ramaphosa at the ANC's election manifesto for the 2019 South African general election was blamed for contributing to xenophobic feeling wherein Ramaphosa committed to cracking down on undocumented foreigners involved in criminal activities. The attacks on foreigners were criticized by both the South African government and political parties amidst calls to ensure that xenophobic sentiment was not exploited for electoral purposes.
On 1 September 2019 riots and looting targeting shops owned by foreign nationals broke out in Jeppestown and Johannesburg CBD. By the end of 2 September around 81 people had reportedly been arrested by police for looting. Around 50 businesses predominantly owned by Africans of which Nigerians was the main target from the rest of the continent were reportedly destroyed or damaged during the incident.
South Africa biting the finger that feed her.
Nigeria – South Africa relations refers to the current and historical relationship between Nigeria and South Africa. Both countries are former British colonies. Both countries are members of the Commonwealth of Nations and African Union but South Africans have forgotten the support that Nigeria rendered to ANC during apartheid.
The Apartheid
During the apartheid era in South Africa, Nigeria was one of the foremost supporters of anti-apartheid movements, including the African National Congress; the Nigerian government issued more than 300 passports to South Africans seeking to travel abroad. Sonny Okosun, a Nigerian musician, wrote the hit song "Fire in Soweto" in 1977 to commemorate the 1976 Soweto uprising against apartheid in South Africa.
Post-apartheid.
Following the end of apartheid in 1994, South African businesses sought for professionals to immigrate and a large number of Nigerians did so and Nigeria immigrant are part of those that developed south Africa.  Very sad that South Africa has forgotten all this in a short period of time.
Foreigners and the South African Police Service.
The police are meant to bring peace in the society and also to settle internal cases between Foreigners and citizens of that country but in south Africa the foreigners could not rely on police for protection because the police mistreating them, stealing from them and making unconfirmed allegations that they sell drugs, the police are also fueling the citizens to maltreat the foreigners.

South African Small Business Development Minister Lindiwe Daphney Zulu said  “foreign business owners cannot expect to co-exist peacefully with local business owners unless they share their trade secrets. According to Zulu, foreign business owners had an advantage over South African business owners due to marginalization under apartheid. "They cannot barricade themselves in and not share their practices with local business owners". Is this what a real African should say?.
African Union.
AU as the regional institution mandated to advance cooperation among African states and between Africa and the international community, the AU has the capacity to be a significant actor in addressing xenophobia and other issues.
AU is mandated to promote human rights, sanctity of life, and peaceful co-existence and cooperation between African states, as well as position the continent at an advantage within the international community.
To co-ordinate and intensify the co-operation of African states in order to achieve a better life for the people of Africa.
To ensure that all Africans enjoyed human rights. Raise the living standards of all Africans. Settle arguments and disputes between members – not through fighting but rather peaceful and diplomatic negotiation.
To bringing the African nations together and resolve the issues within the continent.
To defend the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of African states.
Xenophobia has been a trending topics in South Africa and it has  gain media attention throughout the world, they might claim that foreigners are into job or entrepreneurship competition with them but they forget they are south African citizens in other African countries doing legal and illegal businesses. Africans livinf in south Africa are been maltreated and  yet AU has not done anything tangible to put an end to this inhuman act, South Africa have to be Sanctioned.
“Total liberation and unification of Africa under an All-African Socialist Government must be the primary objective of all Black revolutionaries throughout the world. It is an objective which, when achieved, will bring about the fulfillment of the aspirations of African and people of African descent everywhere. It will at the same time advance the triumph of the international socialist revolution, and the onward progress towards world communism, under which, every society is ordered on the principle of –from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.” — Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah.
Some reasons why Africa should unit.
v  Resident permit  and visa free.
We say “we are on Africa” then why do we have to pay residence permit when we travel from our country to another African country?, why must we get visa in order to enter another African country?, why are we treated as a foreigner in another African country?. If Africa unite there will be nothing like resident permit for any African citizen living in another country within the continent and there will be visa free for all African willing to travel within the continent.
v  Africa is extremely wealthy! In fact, it is the wealthiest land mass on the face of the earth. This wealth can be found in its abundant mineral resources and in its huge agricultural potential. However, because this wealth is unevenly distributed, showing no relationship to the artificial, imperialist imposed division of the continent, this wealth can only benefit the masses of African people when it is shared on a continent-wide basis.
v  To invest in large scale production, in both industry and agriculture, a large amount of investment resources is needed. When Africa unites, it will be able to pool its investment resources to ensure that it will have enough money to invest in the large-scale production of industrial and agricultural goods and services. Once Africa unites, it will no longer have to go begging the World Bank, IMF, and various donor nations of the world for loans that are tied to very high interest rates and exploitative conditions designed to keep Africa impoverished and dependent. In short, genuine African unity, where the wealth and resources of this great continent are amassed in the ‘Great Bank of Africa’ and shared amongst its people, is the only alternative for Africa Separately to avoid begging for loans that are designed to keep Africa poor and in perpetual debt.
v  Only a united Africa will be able to protect its market! China protects its industries by keeping its currency, the rinminbi, relatively low, thus ensuring its exports will remain attractive on the global market. The United States provides millions of dollars of subsidies for its farmers—especially its rice, cotton, and maize growers—in order to protect their goods against local competition in countries.
v  One of the best ways to integrate Africa’s economy, enhance inter-African trade, and gain control in setting the prices of African exports is through the use of a common currency. A common African currency will eliminate the transaction costs customers pay when buying a different currency other than their own, especially for those involved in inter-African trade. the African common currency will become an international currency of higher value that billions of people, inside and outside of Africa, will have to acquire in order to purchase anything made and sold anywhere in Africa.
v  Africa will allow nearly 20 African countries to acquire the benefits of having immediate access to the sea. With slightly more than 70% of the earth’s surface covered by the ocean, the benefits of having immediate access to marine life are tremendous. They include, minimally, food, medicine, raw materials, mineral resources, tourism, and the protection of geopolitical strategic interests.
v  The UN, NATO, EU, USA, or any other entity outside of Africa can never and will never solve our problems. None of them have the interest, will, means, or mandate to do so; instead, if left in their hands, they will only make matters worst in order to make Africa more malleable for continued imperialist domination.
Nelson  Mandela said  “I dream of the realization of the unity of Africa, whereby its leaders combine in their effort to solve the problem of the continent. I dram of our vast deserts, of our forests, of our great wildernesses”.
We are one Africa so in order to stop this inhuman act in South Africa or any other African country.
Kwame Nkrumah once said “Africa must unite or perish!’ Without genuine African unity, our continent will remain at the mercy of imperialist domination and exploitation”.
