Puerto Rico is currently run by an imposed, non-elected fiscal control board with the goal of paying the island’s debt of over $70billion without audit, revision or restructure, putting the interests of vulture fund managers and their possibly illegal transactions with the Puerto Rican government over the needs of its people. The Financial Oversight and Management Board put in place by the #PROMESA bill, runs on a budget of at least $370million dollars paid by Puerto Rican taxpayers, and some of its members have been tied to the same corporations responsible for the crisis. With cuts in funding to public education and pensions, changes to health care, and government right-sizing, the board’s determinations are seemingly non-negotiable and exempt from local law. Update : the US congress controll board in Puerto Rico heavily suggested that the goverment cut 300 million dollars from the UPR budget (the “state” public college) which would effectively close 8 out of the 11 campuses in the island .

Seeing through whose eyes?

I have had a lot of beautiful experiences in life and all of that is because of my family. Also I’ve experienced some growing up physically but more important mentally and emotionally.  Reflecting on my childhood, I have a lot of memories that my family is teaching me things to prosper in life.  I am grateful to have them in my life.

My school was another important element that has shape me to the man I am. Teachers who were like family to me directed me to the university well trained and prepared. Being in the advanced program in school really helped me to understand a lot of stuff in the university. Although I didn’t appreciated at the time but I am grateful for staying in the program. There’s a lot of stuff   I didn’t appreciated while I was on school a lot of things for example, being lazy, not fulfilling my capacities to full potential and just being ignorant because I hadn’t matured yet.  My grandmother was a professor of literature in UPRB and a lot of scholars from all over Puerto Rico and United States showed up in the house and being ignorant an immature I didn’t think of speaking with them, learned  about their life or asked them for pointers in life.  This part I sometimes get angry because I really didn’t capitalize the chance to hear great stories and learned from some of the best historian and scholars of the country, but I won’t change the past because now I can realize what I should have done right. Now I know that when an opportunities comes by I have to reach and go grab it.

Sports were and still are an important activity in my life. It has presented me with good opportunities and has allowed me to meet many of my good friends now. I played over five sports but flourish in basketball. I became the point guard and captain of the basketball team and this really shaped me to be a leader because being the point guard means I have the control of the ball  and guide my teammates to score and that a lot of responsibility. My teammates saw me like a leader but I also saw my teammates like leaders, we learned from each other and that is a good quality we all have.  Thanks to all this experiences my perspectives in life has changed. I used to not care about the little things in life but now I know that the little things are the things that make life better.

June 6th - 2:10 a.m. Today was both a horrible, yet interesting date. I had to drop Data Structures because I honestly believe that trying to save that class would be too much of a hassle and would affect the remaining. That on its own felt liberating, but it also gave me a sense of slight regret. I don't know. But la crème de la crème was losing my wallet. I lost fucking everything. The little bit of cash I had, both ATMs, medical plan card, my license, mom's picture, among others. It just fucking disappeared out of nowhere. I retraced my steps everywhere and no avail. I hope it appears tomorrow, if not, I'm going to have to replace all that shit slowly. Now, the interesting part of the day came after all that. I was stressing out over the wallet, searching hectically pretty much for hours, until I just gave up. I went to Amadeus and just sat next to Elvin. He knew I was down and shit. He noticed instantly. But we didn't talk about it. Just being in his presence and joking around about other shit made the issue seem less pertinent atm. He then left for a bit, and his sister and Gabriela(?) appeared. Nahir is always a hoot. She and her friend were good company and when Elvin came back, his little brother-sister fights never fail to crack me up. Time transpired and I decided to move my car from Area Blanca to Stefani. When doing so, I received a call from Luis Flores. You see, the thing about him is that we don't see each other all that often, but when we do, it's such a good time. I swear, my conversations with him are the ones that flow the most naturally. No gaps, no awkward silences. Just straight back and forward conversation. He tells me that he was digging chinese food and asked me to tag along. I explained my overall situation, basically letting him know I didn't have a shred of cash. He told me to not to worry, just head over to the place and he'd take care of it. And so I did. He paid my food, and we chatted and shit. It was a very good time overall. I should appreciate those moments a bit more. Luis has always been a great friend since UPRB. I do wish him the best in all his endeavors, honestly. I'm losing the train of thought. Anywho, typical reunion for us two. Good ass convo, good laughs, no awkwardness, just good friendship at its finest. In the end, I thanked him and returned to Elvin and Nahir and the rest was history. Mostly good vibes and laughs. Elvin made me watch Yugioh: Dark Side of the Dimensions and discuss with him. Seeing that I wasn't in the mood to study at all during the day, I obliged. Granted, he was pretty much forced me, given that he had told me to watch that a long ass time ago. I watched it and whatnot, we spoke and yaddidah. That's not the important thing here. Elvin's being such a great comfort right now. I love talking with the guy. Him being 23 gives off that big brother-like vibe, very similar to Brian. It's comforting (redundant, I know). But as time has passed, I have more and more reason to trust the guy. At one point, irrelevant to the wallet shit, he noticed I was doing. I quickly shrugged it off and pretended otherwise. I don't know if he bought it. But at this moment, I honestly believe that I'm capable of sharing my situation with him. His feedback and his possible support would be such a relief right now. I value his take of various matters, so, we'll see. The moral is that no matter how shit your day is going, a good set of friends is just the remedy. Thank you, Elvin and Luis. I value you two both more that you two know.
