Be prepared that every hiking trip with me will take around 40% longer than the estimated time because I will be stopping at every pretty mossy stone and I will take too many pictures

It's great when your friends have friends who live in cool places and are willing to let you use their flat while they're on holiday.
The first week of November, Sunna and I headed over to Bad Gastein (or should I say Good Gastein lol) for a weekend getaway to the mountains. Sunna spent the weekend before I arrived in the sleepy mountain village, scouting out all the best places to go, which worked out for me because we had an amazing time when I arrived.
She and I spent the first full day climbing up from the Sport Gastein bus stop to the lower Hartbocksee. The hike was rated blue (low exposure, well marked trails, easy) but even Sunna (who is a much better hiker than me) said she thought it was certainly rated at least a full level too low. The hike was STEEP (though not ladder steep) and had multiple parks that were at high-tumble-to-your-death risk. But the view from the top! Boy, was it worth it. It was gorgeous to see the whole valley from the top of the small peak, the large 3000m mountains dwarfing the Bockhartsee. It was well worth the stress and exertion to get there.
That night, we feasted on chicken and roast vegetables before tucking into a huge amount of Kaiserschmarrn alá Sunna.
On our last day in the mountains, we cleaned the apartment and set out for the spa in Bad Gastein. It was a super beautiful spa, surrounded by snowy peaks, and it was great to relax in the warm waters and saunas before pulling ourselves together for the train ride back to Vienna. The train was packed, and when we got to Salzburg, we made the risky decision to sprint to a Nudelbox restaurant to get some dinner before our train back to Vienna left. We made it on the train with minutes to spare--happily munching noodles until we made it back home.
