A non-profit organization in Newark, New Jersey is a beacon of hope that shines brightly through the efforts of RisingSun Charities Organization, a non-profit dedicated to uplifting the community through a range of social services. From providing food assistance to offering educational support, this organization stands as a pillar of support for those in need. Through their tireless work, charities have become synonymous with compassion and empowerment in the local area.

I’m actually serious about this, if at all possible, right now is a very good time to request queer books from your local library. Whether they get them or not is not in your control, but it is so important to show that there is a desire for queer books. I will also say getting more queer books in libraries and supporting queer authors are pretty fantastic byproducts of any action.

This isn’t something everyone can do, but please do see if you are one of the people who has the privilege to engage in this form of activism, and if you are, leverage that privilege for all you’re worth.

For anyone who can’t think of a queer book to request, here is a little list of some queer books that I think are underrated and might not be in circulation even at larger libraries:

Since Pride Month is ending I wanted to make some things clear:

Intersex people belong in the queer community. Stop with the exclusionism and listen to what they have to say

"Queer" is not a slur. Queer is vague, queer is weird, queer is good, queer is History

"Drop the T" drop your bullshit. Trans people have been here since the beggining, and we always will.

The "A" stands for aspec

"Aspec" is not shorthand for aroace. We are a big community full of nuance, and aplatonics, atertiaries, anaesthetics, afamilials, etc. are included in that

Labels aren't set in stone. Everybody knows their experience best, and you just gotta believe them or leave them be. Even if they have controverse labels, like "lesboy" or "bi lesbian"

Queer disabled/mentally ill people belong at pride. Yea, even people with the "scary" disorders, imunocompromised people, and everyone else

Black people & non-white people can also be queer. We are important, have different experiences and our voices should also be heard

Gendernonconformity looks different for every culture and every person

"DSD" is a bad term. "Hermaphrodite" is a slur

"AFAB" and "AMAB" probably doesn't mean what you mean. If you mean "people with vulvas" or "people with masculine sex characteristics" say it

Just because Pride ended, it doesn't mean advocacy did too. Allyship is all year round

Gay people in Thailand can get married now

This is my first time attempting a comic… I don’t think I did a very good job, but I at least wanted to try it out because this is something I’ve wanted to share and talk about…

I’ve been thinking a lot about my past and future recently, especially as it revolves around my identity… and my health.

I never thought I’d make it to 20, especially not in the environment I grew up in. But I did it. I made it.

You can make it, too. Despite the things you hear, despite the way you’re treated. If you’re true to yourself, if you’re honest, if you’re able to come to terms with who you are… it’s because, somewhere, deep down, you want to live. You want to be happy.

So do that.

My transformation and transition was about survival so that I could see a day in which I was happy and comfortable and content, despite what I’ve been told and what has been done to me. I deserve it. I’m worth it.

I’m excited to be able to someday find that in myself and believe it a hundred percent.

I’m excited to live and finally feel alive.

This is, like, the third or fourth time (if not MORE) that I see a person apologize for talking about touken, showing enjoyment in the ship or needing to give some clarification. I know I'm not the only one who feels like the TG Tumblr space carries a negative atmosphere towards touken and it honestly kills my mood to post on here.

It also saddens me to see people show love for them so hesitantly. Like you're in the wrong for doing so. Like it's stupid. Like it's silly and unreasonable. Like it's almost shameful. Idk! That's how posting on here and see other people talk about them and acting ashamed about liking them makes me feel!

I'm so tired of logging on seeing queer discourse (among other kinds).

They are banning books, self expression, and HRT outside. You realize this? Our government is building cop cities, increasing police budgets, and bloating the military budget. They dropped affirmative action, disability lawyers don't want to bring forward lawsuits because they don't want to provide the supreme court an opportunity to gut the ADA because even they know it's hostile towards disability rights, NYPD interrupted BLM over their permit to celebrate Juneteenth.

I do not know how to make it more clear that literally none of us have room to fuck around and those of us are that are seriously wanting to make some change are watching y'all like teachers in a room full of kids that haven't got the hint to be quiet.

And before y'all say "we can care about 2 things"

Good for you, but as a community if one thing has been made very clear it's that as a collective we can not split our focus. When we do shit like this happens:

That averages to over 100 bills per state targeting the queer community and our rights.

Can we please focus on our collective oppression and solidarity instead. We all have shit to work on okay? Nobody is a perfect ally, even people in your community and yeah that's messed up! But maybe we can set that aside for the sake of our literal rights and lives. At least for a bit.

like is it just me or does it seem tone deaf as fuck to be calling members of your community ignorant bigots for having internalized xyz (that they weren't even fully aware of) when there are powerful, financially backed think tanks and white supremacist orgs currently spending every dime they have on elections and to spread as many hateful policies as they can? Yeah the lesbian cashier who assumed my gender is an asshole, but I think it'd be a better use of my time to address the crowd outside that's discussing whether or not to blow up the Queer Store I'm standing in. I will have my whole life to check queer assholes and educate and accuse other people of not being good enough allies to me specifically, but that's only if I do everything I can to save both our lives first.

as someone who's been doing fandom stuff for over twenty years, i think one of the most important lessons you can learn is not everything is for you. we're all nerds on the internet, banding together because we feel at least a little unhinged about our favourite shows/movies/ect. there's going to strong opinions any way you slice it, and other people's opinions won't always align with yours. maybe someone is obsessed with a character you don't like or a pairing that makes no sense to you, but that person still has as much of a right to be in the space as you do. that doesn't mean you have to interact with those ideas, i'm a big proponent of blocking whoever or whatever you need to, but you don't get to tell them to stop just because you personally don't like it.

obviously, there are cases where this doesn't apply. if a take is super racist/homophobic/transphobic or someone is using their personal headcanon to harrass others, then absolutely that's something that should be addressed. but if it's just something harmless that irks you personally, you need to understand that that is a you problem and not a them problem. and, quite frankly, if you can't come to terms with that, maybe fandom isn't for you.

What happens when you win the debate on who's the most oppressed group in the transgender community. What happens then. What could be accomplished by finding the one group that is the single most downtrodden demographic that suffers at the hands of every other community and putting them up on the 'most oppressed' throne with a 'most oppressed' trophy that could not be accomplished if we listened and paid attention to individual and group needs and worked to address them without the need to determine 'who has it worst', or worse, 'who actually belongs to the most oppressed group'.

It's like when people who hate trans/queer people are fine with rich white cis gay men. So they think it's not bigoted to blame "people with blue hair and pronouns" for the downfall of society.

We all know this means, "I only see some of you as human like me. You have to speak and act a certain way to count. Everyone in your group has to pass a test to get into the Good group."

Doesn't work.

Sure, it gives them plausible deniability to the people who matter to them. But everyone else can see exactly how they feel.

We've all known for years that it's bad to think of a marginalized group as having some "good ones." Rein it the heck in, please.

Because YES, all of those examples are ones I've seen implied, or stated outright, over and over, within the progressive community. This month alone.
