Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I always try to. If I ever don’t respond, it usually means I saw the email while I was somewhere I couldn’t stop and write a reply, then forgot that I hadn’t actually responded.

What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

We’ll Have to Muddle Through Somehow, the Ragnor&Tessa&Raphael fic about what happened to Thule!Ragnor. No happy endings allowed in Thule

What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Probably Like a Storybook Story, the Princess Bride AU. It ends with a solution to the mortal/immortal ship angst

Do you get hate on fics?

Only once from a known troll. I think most of what I write is too niche for the majority of the fandom to have a strong enough opinion on that would make them upset enough to write hate comments

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I still write some, but I’m not comfortable posting it anymore. Most of what I write is character exploration through smut or hurt/comfort. I actually ended up working out some real headcanons for Ragnor and Hypatia through the nonsense I was writing a couple of months ago that I might be able to edit into something postable eventually.

Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I’ve never written one, but a friend and I used to joke about a warlock squad/Gundam crossover

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No. I wouldn’t be opposed to trying, but I think I’m too controlling and stuck in my own headcanons about certain characters to be a fun person to cowrite with

What’s your all-time favorite ship?

Catarina/Ragnor, mostly because I’ve put so much work into making content for them

What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

We Share the Weary Load, which was missing moments from QoAaD. There were a few more I wanted to write, but I just ran out of steam and never picked them back up

What are your writing strengths?

Filling in the holes canon leaves for more minor characters and relationships/friendships that happen mostly off-page, coming up with rules for how magic works, and swinging from humor into angst with no warning

What are your writing weaknesses?

Long plotty stories

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I use a word or two sometimes, but not whole sentences of dialogue. Japanese is the only second language I speak well enough to do it with, but I think throwing whole sentences of Japanese into a fic would just be jarring and confusing

#41: Favorite Fluffy Tropes Fake married/fake dating. Because I often find myself attached to repressed characters, and this is a great way to encourage them to move beyond their own boundaries. For science. For a friend. To save humanity. And then they realize they are actually in love and I start giggling. I'd mention more, but I instead keep thinking of FAVORITE tropes, and that's not the same. Too many of my actual favorites are angsty as hell. #11: Least Favorite Trope/Scenario All human. High school. Ooc. I'm sure if it's written well enough by an author I trust, I might try it, but these are the labels that make me steer clear of a fic. I read fantasy and scifi. I often enjoy stories that don't focus on the fantasy or scifi aspect, but I get offended when people pluck it right out. Ooc speaks for itself really. Unless the AU of the story makes believable changes to the character though circumstance. That's different. But right out the gate, just because? No. #32: Favorite AU tropes I prefer canon divergence to throwing characters into a new world. I can get very attached to the way characters developed specifically within their world, so I prefer to have that played with rather than erased entirely. That said, I do have a few crossover universes that appeal to me, and generally grant some leeway so that a character's backstory can resemble what it was in their canon world. So I like a general Fantasy AU where you throw in magic, swords, and dragons. Take any male character and turn him into a merman. I will be all over it. Mermen are underrated.I also love Pacific Rim AU's because watching characters you love meld minds and fight giant monsters is fun.

4: Is there a book that you think needs a bigger fandom: Echoing upagainstabookcase's answer of Coldest Girl in Coldtown - I love that book and I want to read a hundred stories about it and yet!!

30: Can you leave a series unfinished or do you try all the books?

Leaving a series unfinished is easy (I never finished Shadow & Bone) but I'm much worse at abandoning books; I keep slogging along hoping they'll get better.

38: My Sister's Keeper made me cry - I was a sickly child and for a bit they thought I might have cancer and reading it was like a glimpse of how my mother must've felt. And also, there's this line where she sees her daughter giggly on pain meds and thinks, this will be what it's like when she gets drunk for the first time in high school or college and then reminds herself her daughter might never be that old, and it just broke my heart.

This are my favorite scenes of Jem and Will written by the amazing! @upagainstabookcase

He said it because it took him by surprise. He had had time to get used to Jem's hair. It hadn't been so long ago that Jem's hair had still been streaked with brown before the addiction had claimed the last of the colour. Tessa had never known Jem with dark hair but Will remembered a time when he had looked like this. The eyes took him by surprise. Jem looked at him with dark eyes flecked with silver and Will was fourteen and Jem was blinking slowly in surprise because Will had the audacity to lean in and kiss him one morning. Dark Silver chapter 31

Will was looking down at her with a lopsided smile. The expression on his face was familiar but rare and Jem had never seen him look at someone else like that. Soft and indulgent and happy.

Temporary Madness chapter 12

“He’s being ridiculous, we’ve all considered tossing him into the frosting blender more than once,” Jem said leaning forward to shake her hand and smile at her. She had the sense to look a little dazzled by it. Stupid adorable baker boy with his ridiculously colored hair and the powdered sugar on his face. He always smelled like sugar and yeast and nothing seemed to rattle him, even being yelled at about how blue was too blue when someone ordered blue cupcakes. He went home and gave violin lessons in the evenings and went for five kilometer runs before he started work at 4 a m. Will wondered sometimes if he also killed kittens or something to balance out all the perfection. Three cups of sugar. Chapter 1

... Per Category. Here they be, mateys. Faves from my own fic writing history.

THE INFERNAL DEVICES

1. What the Waves Can’t Provide I did Merman!Jem & Will and got away with it. ‘Nuff said.

2. The Wheel Ms. Tessa Gray-Carstairs is but one of many passengers aboard the RMS Titanic. In the end, her story is no more and no less remarkable than all the others. (I like ripping out people’s hearts and stomping on them.)

3. Isolated Incident An accident in Henry’s lab forces Tessa and the others to make some adjustments. (The time after CP and before CP2 came out was a magical and hopeful fandom limbo for me. And this captures much of the feeling of why.)

4. Undisclosed Desires Brother Zachariah is Tessa Gray Herondale’s one constant, and widows—sometimes—get lonely. (The time after CP2 was a torturous time in which I had been given so much of what I had begged for, but in ways that made me want to scream and turn back the clock. This kind of captures the angst of THAT.)

5. The Thread That Lines in Silver Five symptoms of Jem Carstair’s “illness,” and how Tessa soothes them all. (Honestly, if I could only pick 1 TID fic, this would be it. Romantic, sexy, and 100% much-needed Jem POV.)

DC COMICS

1. This Simple Life Somehow Gordon ends up fostering/adopting Jason Todd. (I didn’t realize when I wrote it that it would strike as much of a chord with people as it did. I still randomly get compliments on it. So that makes me happy.)

2. Converse in Enmity An AU in which Gotham is the last city standing against the Amazons. (I can’t believe that the timing as I read this fic actually matches the feeling of emotional progression that was in my head when I wrote it. High five, me.)

3. Barriers to the Soul Tim/Tam crossover with The Chronicles of Narnia. Narnia was always a place where sons of Adam and daughters of Eve could find their potential. In themselves and in each other. (A crossover of these two very different things still sounds weird when I say it out loud and yet, my story forces the two fandoms to gel in my brain. Apparently, it worked for other people too.)

4. Untouched Cass didn't save Tim. Pru did. But not so punctually. A drugged-up Tim is left to contemplate his overall exposure to physical contact in the last several months while a furiously terrified Tam Fox attempts to care for him. (As much as I love Tim, I don’t do his POV too often. This time I did, and it was fun and rambly.)

5. Waiting for What Will and Won’t Past Tim/Cassie, Kon/Cassie, mention of Tim/Tam. Cassie has a lot to reconcile when loved ones return from the grave. (Okay, so the one reconciling stuff was me. Way before nu52, I was just trying to deal with the fact that the ships I had started sailing in my fave Kon’s absence were about to be broken by canon. So this was me working through it.)

I am also curiously proud of angsty dark sh*t I've written for MISCELLANEOUS fandoms...

1. Last Living Standing {Lost in Space } Robot always said "Danger, Will Robinson! Danger!" But perhaps, instead of shouting "danger," he should have been whispering "tragedy." (I am so PROUD of this angst monster. That has like zero audience. Bc nobody remembers Lost in Space at all. Ah Well.)

2. Habit and Salvage {Inception} Arthur knows that in a job where the line between dream and reality blurs, the difference between murdering someone and setting her free is likely to grow murky. Arthur/Ariadne. (I loved the pairing and dabbled with the idea of full-on becoming part of the fandom, but it never went beyond this fic. Still like it tho.)

3. Nightmarish Stasis {Anita Blake/Harry Potter crossover } Fill for the promt “Nightmares.” A young wizards gets lost all too far from his home dimension with no one but the local vampire executioner to take him under-wing. Pre-series for Anita. Post-series for Harry.

4. Ash  {DC Comics, Tim/Cassie } aka A previously untitled request for wonder bird angst. Includes nostalgic comic!Young Justice references.(Whoops, another DC one. But this is angsty enough to file here, methinks, as my DC stuff is often less angsty than my other stuff.)

5. Reflections on Reflection {Paranormalcy} Lend usually sees himself pretty clearly... provided, of course, that he can see himself at all. (okay, so this one isn’t THAT dark, but still… this was mostly written for one friend in particular who loved the Paranormalcy series to death. It pleased her. So it fulfilled its purpose. But if you’ve ever read that book, you will probably enjoy the character sketch of Lend.)

Tessa/Catarina

when I started shipping it: like many ships, this is @upagainstabookcase’s fault; she posted a headcanon that got me thinking. 

my thoughts: they’d be so cute! nurses together inLondon, have been friends for a long time, they have great history and I adore a friends-to-lovers romance.

what makes me happy about them: The idea of them telling thewarlock squad about their relationship. Simon rambling and fanboy-ing like he does with Malec. the gang teasing them for even slight PDA. laughingat Magnus’s dramatics together. Just how delightedeveryone would be.

what makes me sad about them: in the thule universe, Tessa hearing aboutCatarina’s death :(

things done in fic that annoy me: the fact that there’salmost none of it. I know this fandom doesn’t have a lot of content for femslash ships but … come on

things I look for in art/fic: the only person I’ve everseen write about them is you and I love everything you write, so I don’t lookfor things so much as squeal and click the link to read.

who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not eachother: Catarina with Ragnor (also your fault). Tessa with Jem and Will.

their favorite non-sexual activity: Tessa reading her favorite books to Catarina (in some cases, because Cat overworks herself and she’s trying to make her rest). 

my happily ever after for them: I like the idea of them getting together after all of the mortalcharacters we know are gone and Tessa’s had time to heal from Jem’s death. Nothingdramatic or epic, just the two of them growing closer & closer and theirfriendship becoming more intimate, until one day they kiss like it’s the most natural progression in the world.

And later on: Catarina working in a hospital and Tessarunning a warlock version of the Praetor Lupus (does the Praetor already helpwarlocks, I don’t remember) and at the end of the day, them coming home to eachother.

What artists are you listening to right now?

Bryson Andres on loop. I’m on an instrumental musical kick and I love it.

Favourite comfort book, movie, etc?

Honestly if I’m just trying to watch something entertaining and mindless I’ll watch a rerun of Last Week Tonight cause it’s both educational and swears a lot, which I appreciate. If we’re talking book though, @upagainstabookcase‘s Poets is something I reread a lot if I’m tired. Got it downloaded on my phone and everything!

Favourite activity in whatever the winter weather is in your climate?

I added a u because I was in Pain

FLEECE SHEETS. I love winter because I can put fleece sheets on my bed and sleep basically with blankets all around me. Smother me in blankets.

Favourite cheesy self-care activity?

Taking out romance novels and reading like three in a day because I have library cards for four separate libraries and I am unstoppable. (I recommend Alyssa Cole to start out with. Or Courtney Milan. If anyone wanted to go looking.)

Winter headcanon for your favourite ship(s) or character(s)?

Jadzia absolutely prefers winter to summer. Snow is scientifically fascinating and Trills do not deal well with heat.

Current WIP (any fanwork type) you’re most excited about?

COUNTERBALANCE!!!!!

It’s a sister fic to Otherwise Occupied. Basically taking similar themes and the same original premise (what if both Kira and Jadzia were on the same planet and not on DS9?) and made it about being on Trill instead! It includes things like: taking down governments, making out, and arguments about how old is too old to drink coffee. 

I am. SO. Excited to be working on it honestly. I’ll probably post about it a little more when I get closer to finishing! But in the meantime, have two intriguing paragraphs. 

“Bajoran, right?” Jadzia took another sip of her ale, her throat going numb. Most alcohols seemed to warm the drinker, but this one froze them. It was a new experience. After all, wasn’t that what she was for? “What brings you out here?”

Kira looked Jadzia in the eyes, her gaze cold and clear and burning. “The Federation’s truth or mine?”

Ship It

1) What made you ship it?

@upagainstabookcase’s fics again. I binge read all the books up to LoS so fast the first time, I didn’t really get past Will being an asshole by the time I was done reading (Simon was also a victim of this when I read TMI). Asha’s fics made it easier to see Will’s good points.

2) What are your favorite things about the ship?

I like them best at the married with kids stage, especially in the snippets and short stories where the kids are small. They are very romantic and obviously adore each other.

3) Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

I dislike the names smushed together to make ship names trend in general, but Wessa is the worst word. I hate the way it sounds. But it does have way less porn bots in the tags than Jessa, so I guess that’s an advantage.
