posted a buncha rambling about this on my other blog but i want to be very brave and try to post about it here. warning it's very yappy, i'm not in a good headspace and i esp wasn't last night. but i want to talk about it anyway

this month i started a new little project/interactive game type stuff. it started because i was struggling to write cj and I was in the mood for dark fantasy (turns out that's my niche, i just start TYPING AWAY when it's that). it kind of spiraled and now i'm 120k deep

I don’t have a name for this project, I am very bad at naming things. But the premise/setting is a grimdark fantasy esque world. And there’s this type of magic that is actually more like a parasitic disease.

I really love the idea of magic as something that represents mental illness. And writing surrealism, dreams, memory issues, etc is my fave.

Combining it with a dream I had a long time ago of a world where they used children in war, this type of magic can be learned by anyone but they have to “survive” the initial sickness. And children are more resilient to surviving.

Because magic becomes a useful commodity in society (military, industrial, labor) there is an incentive to have a lot of magic users. So you end up with a society exposing children to a dangerous, not well understood phenomenon in order to shape them into something useful. A lot of children die or suffer very severe side effects that permanently alter their mind or body

That’s the setting, though. The main plot is more concerned with other stuff.

I just like world building fantasy stuff.

I wrote two origins the player can pick but one is sort of shelved until I can figure out the family situation. That one is the noble background and has deeply fucked family dynamics and I’m stuck on 1) did I make this too fucked up 2) I want to use character sprites because I’m an artist(tm) but if they’re related to the protag, how do I make it inclusive

The other one is you’re an orphan sent to a nice orphanage that’s really there to produce magic users. This one has the most content for now, since orphan means no family members I gotta worry about. further background customization would include having beef with the church, evil magic... stuff. this is called the scholar origin

Then there's the main story after all the origins (i want the origins to be kind of lengthy so they can deeply effect all the stuff on the main story, since there are lot of choices within those origins to shape your character) and I started writing it in a sort of episodic way or "arcs". The first arc is in the mountains with a necromancer.

I'm trying VERY HARD to not include complicated mechanics, I just looove coding so much. But I did include some exploring and stats/skills that are chosen in the beginning and can later be influenced... can't help it! 🥲

other stuff:

I kinda wrote in-universe misogyny . Maybe it’s wrong of me but I like settings that include that. Again kinda makes it hard for player options... also i know that's not everyone's jam but i'm writing for myself since I have no plans on making a commercial product

In the scholar origin, you get close friend, your mentor, a knight, and a priest. You can choose a variety of interactions with the, dynamics, etc

If you play female, the knight might be creepy to you. Otherwise he’s actually very likable and cool. I thought that could emphasize the reality of those situations If that makes sense (the predators/creeps in people's lives appearing as Just A Chill Guy To Everyone Else) Your childhood friend has potential to be an incel-like guy, a rival, or truly your closest friend depending on the choices. And the mentor is a major character to the main story and his dynamic with the player is variable. I put in so many options and branching stories, that's really what ended up making the word count when I started writing the script lol. Idk how to put a percentage on it but most of the background/origins are done and i'm midway into the first arc.

I haven't designed any visuals yet, I'm super focused on writing. WILD since i am an artist, you'd think that's what i go to first. But I get stuck in my head too much when making A Public Thing and not just my personal ocs so I'm constantly worried about the designs being palatable. I got to 120k now. It's impressive from an output number but i feel like game itself is barely any content... there's just A LOT of player reactivity. that's my fave thing in any rpg and i always crave more, so that was a leading factor in writing.

I struggle to complete projects sooo bad but the amount i made for this gives me confidence it's going somewhere. also setting limits on myself so i don't add too much rpg elements (I wanna code a combat system sooo bad but that is some difficult work and I want to actually write interactive fiction pls)

i have been trying to gauge wether or not the noble origin is "too fucked up" but i'm also worried if i say it's fucked up and then it's not then i look like a "Oh look at me i'm sooo depraved". heres a glimpse i guess

basically the Player is the youngest/baby of the family. You mom died in childbirth with you and the father has been destroyed by the grief. You get to choose which of the two older siblings you are closest to: The sister, who is a very maternal, loving, almost kind of too much figure in your life who spoils you. Or your brother, the heir who tries too hard and has some problems over trying to prove himself to everyone (but mostly himself) Additionally, your Uncle is visiting.

the family dynamic you're thrust into is already kind of wack. You're in a gilded cage sort of deal. the noble!player would almost always get a little birdie motif lol. Wrote in some choices here in there for some player decisions. You can be really into books, a naive idiot, rebellious, etc.

I don't really wanna talk about the main plot bc i DO actually want to release this some day. But since nobody's reading, you are lured by a sort of demonic figure (to long to explain what they are in this universe, demon is fine) to leave your big ol castle/fortress.

Your aunt visits. Your aunt is Fildraa and she is a very weird, weird person in your life. She plays a major role in the main story. But her relationship to a noble!player is really weird. She flips between being sickly sweet to you, to looking like she wants to murder you for breathing. You have always gotten the feeling that this lady f u c k i n g hates your guts and you have no idea why.

the answer is because incest. um. not sure how much i should go into it. is anyone even reading. But she's not really your aunt, except maybe she is, it's complicated.

i was gonna type more but idk lol i dont wanna just type out the plot. but i'm happy with the stuff that i wrote for this situation because i think i handled the horror and the suspense and the reveals very well. the basic plot is a bit soap opera-y with a lot of very out there twists but i think i handled it okay. My main concern is that it comes across as edgelord shit.

I put a pause on writing the noble's content but 90% of the intro is finished and I do put their content in the first arc that I'm currently writing. They get a lot of "i know how to do social situations" but bomb at connecting with The Common Man and magical stuff (as compared to the scholar origin)

hi hi friends i've been jumping between different things, my own projects, beta reading something VERY EXCITING (and getting personally attacked by someone i thought was a friend😉)

What I bring to you today is a snippet from what i've been calling the untitled brunch project. It's Alex and Henry out to brunch with Alex's cousin Eddie, his son Chris, and some other dude he's bringing.

Buck’s grip is firm and strong, his hand nearly fully engulfs Alex’s. Alex stares at their hands for a moment before Henry holds out his.

His hair is brown and shaggy, it’s swept to the side to keep it out of his eyes. Taylor bites the inside of his cheek when he notices the guy’s lips. They’re plump and pink; they look like they belong wrapped around a dick, Taylor’s dick. He bites at them as he lines up his next shot. “Holy shit,” Taylor says under his breath. “He hasn’t missed a single shot since he got here,”

here’s my ramblings for my spg horror project if i ever do it

as of rn it’s just a lil concept so. things will change and become less cliche ig?? because it’s hard to find a concept that’s not Overdone but also i really. Do Not Care

but the main idea of it is the mc is doing a completely unrelated project and in their research falls into this rabbit hole of learning about the complete disappearance of a specific robotics company :3 it’ll take place within the universe of spg so there’ll probably be names of characters mentioned and stuff idk hehsgdgdvdh

anyway my scene idea is hard to describe?? but it looks So Good in my head. it’d be near the climax of the whole thing where our main person somehow accidentally. idk how yet. but the robots had been gone/shut off for years but. oops they’re evil. anyway the mc is hiding in this room, with the camera angle just barely showing them and like. the floor? like the camera would be on the floor. and they’re freaking tf out because who wouldn’t be? and in my mind a ✨blue portal✨ shows up and an arm comes out of it right before the thing ends. so. the scene idea is just Spooky Hatchworth

do i have any idea how to pull any part of this off? absolutely not. but kshsgdgdhd i want to Do It so bad. the filmmaker/writer/theatre kid in me is foaming at the mouth

Time and wind and weather had left the wall with plenty of convenient crags to use as handholds, which was a blessing and a curse, really. When she'd first thought up this scheme, a small, sensible part of Claire's brain had hoped she would discover the wall to be smooth and impregnable, but she had no such luck. The only thing to prevent her from doing the very stupid, very dangerous thing she wanted to do was her own self-control, and there was little enough of that to go around.

Oh I’m thinking of what the third origin should be. I mean idk how many origins I’ll add, but rn Scholar is the main one.

Noble has a lot of social benefits, scholar is magic and intelligence, so it only naturally follows I have a strength/physical origin. There’s a couple ideas.

Outlaw, be a pirate, bandit, or just someone on the run. So you’d know how to fight and deal with the underworld

Knight, be catholic and get a cool sword. This would have immediate reaction because the first arc has a certain cute paladin girl (music sting to indicate dread and bad things)

It’s gotta be specific but not too narrow. Noble is too narrow and I’m stuck on how to deal with it. Scholar has a lot of additional choices like being a “””rescued””” witch, your evil step mother sending you off to become magical to get rid of you, being an orphan of a massive plague. And more stuff…. It’s a lot, but the “scholar” origin is the exact customization I want

OC/Writing Art Asks -- copics for heinkel, the last supper for untitled oc wip, and photography for you!

Copics: what is this character's most expensive habit or hobby? Do they ever feel guilty about the money they spend on it?

Good question! Honestly my first instinct was 'there is exactly one other person who rivals Heinkel's fixation with custom firearms and he's working for England' xD But I think it'd be less hobby hobby and more a 'well, I need these for work so they're going to be as good as humanly possible' deal - she has her pistols, but that's it.

The cop-out answer is smoking lol. (& on that note: brand is 'whatever gets the most nicotine into her system the fastest'. It's purely for the buzz and okay maybe a little because she thinks it makes her look cool)

Actual answer that requires character building? ... little knick-knacks, particularly from anywhere she's had to travel. Heinkel doesn't strike me as the artsy type even for hobbies, but I can absolutely see a hoard of useless little memorabilia 😂 (She's particularly keen on decorated eggs)

The Last Supper: does this fic incorporate any symbolism based on religion, theology, or mythology? If so, give an example.

Not intentional, but the way everything came together, it's... well, at least I have an explanation for the not-Earth setting having a thinly veiled Christianity expy- though as much as I joke about 'fantasy catholic', it terms of actual practice it's drawing from a lot of traditions & absolutely flavored by my growing up around some of the 'rejoice! the end days are coming!' sort of mentality, with the way the Order is actively seeking to hasten what would be the end of the world.

thank you!!! i would love to post more of them (and i definitely will be in the future) but to be candid, i think writing frequently is something that requires me assessing my relationship with what i write and how much enjoyment i get from it, which is to say i need to stop Thinking so much about it and just do it. i love that you love summer fic because it's probably one of my least favourite things i've written, but i need to understand that my feelings about it are not the same as other people's reactions to it! and that's okay.

i do have several in-progress fics languishing in my google drive right now if you want me to talk about any of them - my only real project at the moment is my mail-order bride au, but i also have uhh retirement fic, an actors au, ski instructor fic, and canon divergence where jack went to the rangers instead, as well as probably like 500 others i've mentioned in tags at various points that i'm just forgetting about right now LMAO feel free to ask me anytime and i'd be happy to provide, and thanks again!!
