☆ With that being said and done, Griselda has been removed from this blog (as well as from this site) and being replaced by Firtha. Firtha's bio (x).
Any asks for Griselda will now be aimed for any of my other muses. I'm unsure if I will ever return her back to this site or this blog. The reason for this action because I kept getting frustrated with what I can do with Griselda, which kept killing my drive and motivation to write her. That and - and mind you, it is mostly my fault for this - that she gotten little to no interactions. No matter how many times I went up to someone to bounce ideas off of them for her, I always left, feeling unsatisfied and that person and I getting nowhere with any ideas. Perhaps in the future if I managed to be more satisfied with her concept and wanting to go in a certain direction with her without backtracking, I may consider the thought of readding her.
For now, I will set down Firtha, who has been my highest muse for nearly as long as Vasco. Although Firtha isn't exactly a sci-fi based muse, I do have ideas for her being in that setting as well as the direction of her story. So, she might as well come onto this blog. And the verse being used the most will be in any sci-fi or Mass Effect setting, given this is a Mass Effect blog.
#☆ rocĸ αɴd rαмвlιɴɢ awαy! / ooc☆#tbd#now it gives me an excuse to sit down#and actually type out her verses instead of putting a few ideas down#and going from there#I am filled with ideas for my oc#but I need to kick myself into writing it down for F.irtha#I do apologize for the whole inconvenience for people#especially those who looked forward to writing with G.riselda#until I feel satisfied with her character and not keep trying to rewrite her every two seconds#I am putting her off this blog#And again I can't go to people#because like I said we will get nowhere with these ideas#because I'll be unsatisfied with the results#that is something I don't want to put on others either#I hate to burden people by bouncing off ideas and I am not satisfied with anything

Rewrite your stories until they tell you the truth.
This quote from Cornelia Funke in a Zoom Q&A I had the honour to be part of last January has genuinely changed the way I write. For those of you outside the German-speaking countries; Cornelia Funke is one of Germany's most popular teenage- and young adult novel authors, her bibliography at this point eclipses that of some history professors of mine, and her books are what got me into writing 15 years ago. I'm 26 now, so like many of us in fandom spaces, I started very young, got around a lot on the internet, and had my fair share of creator burnout over the years. I also have ADHD, unmedicated for a lot of reasons I won't get into here, so the wip curse is strong in me. I currently have three big longfic wips in three different fandoms - Yuri on Ice, Fantastic Beasts and Merlin BBC - all of which are just lacking the ending. I have worked on all of those for more than a year and a half now. Up until a few days ago, I felt like What few still understand, my House of the Dragon Long Night do-over, would become one of them.
Being on tumblr for something upwards of eight years now (and having created a tumblr account for the sole reason to keep up with the Sherlock BBC Season 4 speculations ahead of the disastrous launch), I have seen a variation on the "we are authors, not creators, for fuck's sake stop capitalizing fandom" post every other week on here for years now. And as wholeheartedly as I agree with that statement, somehow I failed to internalize it. To make it true for myself, for my works, the time and effort I put into them. I don't know if university has made me a chronic perfectionist or the rejection sensitivity aspect of ADHD, either way, I have a high standard for my own work inside and outside of fandom, which isn't a bad thing persé but lately i have found myself dissatisfied with my works as I was writing them. Coming back to them a couple days afterwards usually shows me what sections really do work and what needs editing.
"Re-write your stories until they tell you the truth" - I was never a fan of thinking of a story as a first draft, as the sand you just build your castle out of the second or even third go-around. Writing long fanfictions takes enough time as is, and living with chronic pain especially in my arms, I probably should be writing less than I already am. But this time, with What few still understand, I really tried to follow that advice from one of the authors I admire most in the world: Why does this conversation between three characters feel off? Why do I keep working on it in the back of my head like nagging a loose tooth on the way to work, why does this scene feel wrong days after I have written it? Why did I keep procrastinating the finale? (Because I hate writing battles. That's why.) Now, recently I have been reading everything dear Cecil (@softest-punk) over in the Sandman fandom puts out, and one thing they said a while ago also really stuck with me: Fanfiction isn't the published book world (thank the stars), so we're all just playing doll together. We can have our cake and eat it too. And somehow, this clashes with my perfectionism despite that it resonates with me so much.
So, lately I have been trying to find the golden middle for myself. At which point am I satisfied enough with my writing that I can publish it online and be okay with the result, and what does it take to get to that point without obsessing over the details? How do I get rid of the demon of doubt on my shoulder making the pain worse because I spent too many hours on my laptop pouring over the Targaryen family dynamics in this fix-it world I accidentally created? Let's leave aside this volatile fandom making my anxiety over publishing worse; what I am hoping to achieve is to brighten some people's day. If I am yanking on their heartstrings in the process, promise there's always a happy ending waiting at the end of my stories. I just have to find that happy ending to my own creation process, and that is going to take time, I suppose.
#yo ho a writer's life for me#Alex yapping#writing#House of the Dragon#fanfiction#Fandom discourse I suppose#Am I going to do this more often from now on? Maybe let's see

I am torn between telling myself I can write a novella version of "Tattercoats" so I can fit in all the character and setting details that could make this a full-fledged retelling that does full honor to this fairy tale that I love more and more with every passing day, and just writing the short story version as fast as possible so I can stop worrying about all the possibilities.
I love this fairy tale so much, guys. I'm loving it more every time I reread it. It's so good that I sometimes wonder if I should even bother retelling it, because it's so satisfying as a short fairy tale that making it longer just dilutes the impact. But that makes retelling it so difficult, because I want to make this my ideal retelling that lives up to what I love about the original. Lots of pressure.
I'm writing a straightforward, traditional retelling, keeping as many details as possible from the original tale. Sounds easy, right? But there is so much backstory here. The story doesn't really begin until the king sends out invitations for the ball. But to understand why this matters, you have to establish that Tattercoats' mother died in childbirth, that her grandfather refused to look at her, that all the servants abuse her, that she's called Tattercoats, that the nurse has tried to help her but has been severely limited, and that the gooseherd is her friend. And then I also have to set up her history with the prince, because this is one Cinderella variant where a retelling has to have them know each other beforehand, because the story jumps so quickly to marriage that there's no space to fit in a more realistic "getting to know each other" period anywhere else in the story. And then I have to figure out POV. Do I throw all this info into a first-person info dump? Do I try for past-tense to make this feel more "real", or do I want the immediacy of first-person-present, despite the difficulties this presents for fitting in backstory? I have tried to rewrite this story's opening at least five times and I have loved it, but I would also like to finish it, you know? This is going to be my Four Loves Fairy Tale entry, so I need to finish it quickly. The trouble is figuring out a way to do that while also winding up with a satisfying retelling.

Sweet But Psycho
Summary: Y/N despises the man who broke up her parents marriage, but when her new stepfather stops vying for her approval, and an accidental encounter makes her see him in a different light, she begins to make his life hell in a completely different way.
Characters: Stepdad!Bucky x Stepdaughter!Reader
Words: 1769.
Warnings: stepfather/stepdaughter relationship, age gap (reader is 18+), daddy kink, voyeurism.
A/N: A rewrite of a very old fic that I wrote while in another fandom. Yes, I am a slut for the stepanything trope. And no, I’m not ashamed. Betas: @sweeterthanthis and @nasabeck, but all the general bullshit is entirely mine. While likes are gold, feedback is golden. Masterlists can be found in my pinned post. Subscribe to Patreon and get access to fics, just like this one, two weeks before Tumblr for as little as $3.
With one magnificent thrust, he slides inside you, filling you right up to the hilt. You groan under your breath, shifting your hips back and forth in time to meet his slamming in the opposite direction. The tips of his fingers dig into your skin—just hard enough to bruise as he uses the grip to control his thrusts, pounding into you desperately from behind.
“Fuck. Harder,” you order, the words hissing through your teeth. His rhythm picks up instantly, and your eyes flutter closed at the increase in speed, feeling the tip of his cock brush your cervix.
While the rest of the house is silent, the sound coming from behind you— that wet slap of skin on skin, echoes profanely off the walls, until a key shifting in lock of the front door makes your eyes spring open. His hips begin to stutter to a halt as you snap your head around to glare at him.
“I didn’t tell you to stop."
He looks like he’s seen a ghost. "But your Dad—”
You watch his eyes drift over your head to the corner of the room, and you try to stifle the small smile tugging at the corners of your mouth.
Right on time.
“Keep going,” you command, before turning back to lock eyes with the man that stands in the doorway. If your lover was put off by the sudden appearance of someone else, he didn’t show it, his thrusts quickly building back up to a scintillating rhythm. “Hi Daddy.”
You take a moment to marvel at his features, even though you’d recently come to memorise them— full pink lips framed by perfectly sculpted stubble that you spent too many nights wishing you could shove between your thighs. The kind of sharp and strong jawline that you ached to bruise and marr with your teeth, and a pair of lust-blown icy cerulean eyes so irrevocably enticing you find you can’t tear your gaze away.
Your lips finally manipulate into a satisfied smirk, little whimpers falling from between them with every deep thrust. The man slowly edges into the room, unable to take his eyes off you. He comes to stand in front of you, leaning against the wall behind him as your eyes fall to the rapid swelling in his slacks, your bottom lip captured between your teeth, aching to feel his cock swell inside you instead.
“Are you jealous?” you cajole breathlessly.
“Yes,” the man at the wall manages to choke, hands curled up into tight fists, eyes glazing over. With his lips slightly parted, he breathes out deeply as the guy behind you is completely over his stage fright, fucking into you like there’s no tomorrow.
This is just the reaction you were hoping to get. And now you’ve got James exactly where you want him.
-
James “Bucky” Barnes married your mom three years ago, and you despised the sight of him. He tried so hard to bridge the gap between you, and at every opportunity, you pushed him away. He didn’t deserve to be here— in your house, in your mom’s bed after your parents had only split six months earlier. In your eyes, they were both to blame for your father walking out, and you weren’t going to let them forget their mistakes in a hurry.
You worshipped the ground your father walked on, and to have your mother disrespect him in the worst way meant she had disrespected you too.
As soon as James moved in you made his life hell, up until you turned eighteen, and then everything changed. He stopped trying to gain your approval. He gave up on attempting to be your friend, and deep down it frustrated you. You secretly liked the attention he gave you, even if you hadn’t reciprocated it.
A year passed in contempt. It wasn’t until summer break, while you were home from college, that your rancor amalgamated into a potent mixture of hating the sight of him swaggering through the home you still didn’t consider his, and wanting to ride him into the middle of next week.
It was one am when you quietly slipped through the front door after spending the night at a party, the sleepy silence violently shattered by his coarse cacophony of grunts and moans. It clung to you like a mist as you tiptoed upstairs, and followed you right into your bedroom— igniting something so raw inside you that you ended up coming just as he hit his own peak.
The following night, innocuous dreams began shape shifting into depraved ones— consisting of James subduing you with a pillow as he fucked you while your mom, entirely unaware, slept next door. Soon they became a regular occurrence, the excitement of going to sleep similar to the nights you spent studying, and the sight of your bed never looked so inviting.
After that, you began to see him in a different light, now paying him the attention he had previously wasted on you. You found yourself teasing him— parading around the house in nothing but a small towel after a shower, leaving your door open when you’d change, and once, when your mom was away for the evening, you made sure to enunciate your heady cries just enough as you came, knowing full well he’d be able to hear you through the wall.
Your mom was thrilled you were finally starting to get along, but she was completely oblivious to the sexual tension that was building between you with every day that passed. You wanted him— you needed him, but he wouldn’t have it. He rejected you once, sending you into an almost murderous rage, and you refused to allow him to humiliate you like that again, but that didn’t stop you. You were going to get James to fuck you one way or another. Even if he had to watch another man do it first.
-
You don’t even know the name of the guy kneeling behind you, and you don’t care. After striking up a flirtatious rapport with him at a party, you invited him home with the sole intention of coming just as James arrived back from the bar he’d been recently frequenting. With your mom out with friends, this was the perfect opportunity to put your plan into action.
“Oh god, you’re so deep,” you simper, your stare locked firmly on James, wishing your words were aimed at him to praise, not to make him envious. Watching the delectable way his tongue sweeps across his bottom lip, you direct your question straight at him. “You like watching me get fucked, Daddy?”
He nods silently, the anguish on his face clear for you to see. Continuing to whine, you make sure to keep eye contact with him as your body shunts forward involuntarily with every deep thrust. The guy’s hand snakes up to your shoulders, forcing you backwards, and you hiss through your teeth at the change in sensation.
“Yes, shit, right there.”
You watch intensely as James stands transfixed— entirely mesmerised by the scene unfolding in front of him. Arching your spine, you push yourself further back onto the guy’s dick, feeling your core begin to flutter with the onset of release.
“Fuck!” you cry, throwing your head backwards. As your gaze finds your stepfather’s once again, you manage to catch, at the edge of your periphery, the way he fidgets with his hands, balling them into fists and releasing them, you know he’s aching to put his hands to good use.
“You wanna touch yourself over me, Daddy?”
“Yes.” His voice is so deep, you almost feel it vibrating against your clit, just as a well angled thrust has your body almost shuddering to its end.
“Want me to come for you?” you mewl, the sweetness in your tone a complete antithesis to the words that just tumbled from your lips.
“Yes,” he growls, inching closer to you.
“Can I call your name?”
He swallows deeply, and you watch as his Adam’s apple bobs beneath his bronzed skin as he nods, trying to keep his composure. You slip a hand down between your thighs and begin stroking at your clit, quickly matching the rhythm of the thrusts pounding into your pussy.
“I’m gonna come so hard for you, Daddy, fuck, fuck, James!” Your screams echo around the room, and try as you might to keep your eyes fixed on the man in front of you, the sheer heft of your orgasm forces them shut. It takes wave after wave of euphoria until you find the strength to open them again, and when you do, the darkness that transforms the cerulean in James’ eyes to an inky navy is almost incapacitating.
You’ve barely stopped trembling from your high as he steps forward, suddenly gaining the confidence to push the other man away from you.
“What the fuck dude?” the guy exclaims, flashing you a disgusted look. You just shrug at him with a playful smirk, “I haven’t even finished!”
“Get the fuck outta here before I get her to bite your fuckin’ dick off,” James scowls, leaning down, and scoops up the guy’s pants to throw at him. He hurries to scramble them back up his legs and rushes from the room.
“Your family is fucked up!” he shouts as James strides after him and you hear the door slam shut in the distance.
Slumping back against the couch, you let out a delighted hum, pussy throbbing delightfully from your climax. The sight of James rounding the sofa pulls your attention towards him, his lips pulled tight into a frown, and his hands balled into fists at his sides.
You scowl up at him, expecting a different reaction from the one you’re getting. He strides in front of you, and tentatively you spread your legs, watching in awe as James’ eyes widen at the sight of your cunt.
“Are you mad?” you press, shoving your hand between the apex of your thighs. He drags his bottom lip through his teeth, giving you a curt nod, as the tips of your fingers begin circling your clit. “Don’t be mad. It’s your turn to have a taste now, Daddy.”
He remains glued to the spot, unable to tear his gaze from your pussy as you dip your fingers through your folds, soaking them in slick.
Realising he’s not going to make the first move, you slide slowly off the couch, and drop to your knees in front of him, hands brushing up his thighs teasingly, almost waiting for him to reject you yet again.
But this time, he doesn’t.

Kira Yoshikage x Fem!Reader Hand Fetish First Time NSFW
Anon said: "Ok but I love your work oml. Could I request a nsfw KiraxReader? Something where she and Kira have had a kinda vanilla sex life up until now, but during sex she decides to take control and realizes Kira has a hand kink and is actually into it? With lots of praise for her and degradation for him if possible 👉👈"
Once again, tumblr tried to screw me over with this one. Wrote 700 ish words, saved and then wrote another 400-500, clicked somewhere on my mouse pad and it closed the draft. I was nowhere near the close button. Tumblr. Do better. Auto save posts. And then my browser closed out of nowhere while I was trying to rewrite it. Fun, am I right?
Wanna know what I’m willing to write? Rules here!
Have a character, but no idea? Prompt list here!
Looking for more? Master post here!
WARNINGS: Mostly sweet kisses, breast play, hand fetish/kink (both parties), praise, oral (cunnilingus/vaginal and hands) choking (Kira receiving as well as reader at the end), degradation, teasing, riding, cream pie.
Word Count: 1523
Gentle lips trailed down your body, leaving kisses wherever they could. A light gasp left your mouth as they press into your soft breasts. Kira hums in appreciation, using his thumbs to massage into your hips. He wraps his mouth around your nipple, tongue swirling around it. You arch into his touch, letting out a pleasant moan.
Satisfied with the state he’s left you in, he lifts his head up, bright blue eyes looking sweetly into yours. You bring your hand up, cupping his cheek, watching him seemingly melt into your touch. More kisses were placed on your palms and fingers, gradually getting more feverous with every passing moment. You chuckled. He’s always been a little weak to your touch, it was sweet really.
You couldn’t count how many times you had watched him get distracted from whatever he was doing as your hands drift over his sides, wrapping your arms around him in a hug. Or how often he came home from work, clearly stressed about something. Without fail, you would walk over to him, gently brushing your delicate fingers across his cheekbone. And without fail, he would lean into you, lavishing your hands with gentle kisses until he felt better.
Though, it never quite lasts as long as you wanted. Kira’s kisses had always been special, but when your hands are in his; when his lips are brushing against your palm, there’s a rush that surges throughout your body. He always seems to notice this and cuts things off before you have the chance to make sense of the wave of feelings. You begin to wonder what would happen if he stayed. What would he do?
Your mind begins to wander as he continues to decorate your palms with his lips, gradually moving down to your collar bones. You feel his hips roll into you, sending you further into your fantasies. Images of his mouth wrapped around your thumb, enveloping it in warmth. A moan dances over your lips. The image changes to him cleaning something off your palm, but it’s only there for a minute.
“You’re so good, (Y/N).”
He breaks you out of your daze, moving his attention lower and lower until he’s hovering above his genitals. Kira places a delicate kiss above his prize before diving in. His tongue licks a long stripe up from the bottom of your vag then up to your clit. You keen, lifting your hips up into his mouth.
“Don’t move, (Y/N)-that’s it. Stay right there. So beautiful.” His voice is barely above a whisper as he kisses into your plush thighs for a moment, basking in the warmth of your skin. His lips return to your wet folds. Your hands run through his blonde locks, careful not to mess his hair up too much. The hum he lets out vibrates throughout your body, encouraging him more.
Kira’s eyes roll back into his head as your fingernails graze against his scalp, setting his nerves on fire. His hands dig into your hips a little more rough than he normally would, attempting to shift his focus to something other than your hands. He knows his nature all too well and has been trying to avoid it, not wanting to lose you just yet. The grip on his hair gets tighter as he hits a nerve in you, one finger slipping in, pushing on your sweet spot.
“Oh!” You cry out, not caring about his hair anymore, just wanting him to- “oh! There! Yes, yes, yes!”
The same dialogue is running through his mind as your hands tease him more, threatening to push him over the edge. His boner is almost painful now, pressed into the mattress. He moans again, losing himself in the moment all too quickly.
Suddenly, he pulls back, practically throwing your hands off him. Too soon. Not yet.
Kira catches his breath while you catch yours, avoiding your gaze. You lean up, bringing your hand back to his cheek. The desperate moan he lets out surprises both of you, wrapping his hand around yours. His breath is heavy. You’re so soft. So warm.
“Kira?” You whisper his name. Very rarely have you seen him like this, so riled up. Normally, he would leave, but your touch has him under some kind of spell. What would happen if you push him a little more? The images of him from before return to you, hanging in front of you, tempting you. You graze your thumb over his lips, testing the waters.
A desperate, breathy moan rips through his throat and he leans in further, holding your hand close.
“Do you like that?” You ask.
“Oooh~ yes,” he moans. You think for a minute, then decide to turn the tables.
“Get on your back,” you order, gently pushing on his neck, forcing him to lean back.
“What.” He looks at you a little perplexed, but there’s something in his eyes, some kind of spark that urges you to go further.
“I said-” you drove him further back, letting your voice drop into a more serious tone “-get on your back.”
He complies, hands drifting to your hips, helping you situate yourself on his lap. God, what a temptress you were, turning him on like this. You rocked your hips back and forth, teasing the tip of his cock with your slick folds. He loved it. Your hands squeezed a little more, watching his eyes roll back in bliss. You don’t know what came over you two, but you were thankful. Not that your sex life was boring by any means, but seeing him so-
“Uuuhnn!~” He moans loudly, matching the movement of your hips.
Submissive. It makes you wish you had done this sooner.
“Not so fast, dear.” You coo, brushing his cheek with your free hand. “Be good for me and stay still, you can do that, right?”
“Yesss.” Kira hisses. Control was what he did best, of course he could stay still. You moved your hand again, this time, gently raking your nails down his chest and he moans loudly again. Maybe he couldn’t control himself. You were so close, mere centimetres away from pushing him over the edge. “M-mooorrre.”
Your thumb glides up his chin, settling on his bottom lip. He opens his mouth, expecting you to put it in, but you don’t.
“More? Tch, greedy.” You smile down at him, slowly replacing your thumb with your index and middle finger. “Open.” He obeys eagerly.
With your free hand, you reach behind you, positioning his cock at your slick entrance. Slowly, you slide your fingers into Kira’s mouth. At the same time, you spear yourself on him, relishing in the way he stretches you perfectly. You both moan at the combined feeling, basking in each other’s warmth. His tongue swirls the underside of your fingers, setting your nerves on fire.
His fingers dig into your thighs, nails no doubt leaving crescent shapes in your skin. The confidence he had in his control was quickly fading the more you pushed your digits into his mouth. You rolled your hips forward, equally losing yourself in the newfound pleasure. Why hadn’t you tried this before? The feel of your fingers, enveloped in warmth affected you more than anticipated, leaving you with an ache in your core that was quickly satisfied by his length pushing into every sweet spot you had.
You wanted more. You bring your unoccupied hand to his throat again, watching his eyes roll back into his head.
“Do you like this, Kira? Do you like when I take control like this?” He groans under you, unable to contain himself. “Who knew you could be tamed this easily? I would have done this sooner if I had known it would have made you such a mess.”
That was it. That was all he needed to break. Your hips rocked just so, causing you to slip, pushing down on his neck more. Kira saw white as he pinned your hips to his, keeping you still while he quickly unloaded himself in you. Slowly, you pulled your hands back, watching his face as he came down from his orgasm. He seemed to be stuck in a perpetual state of bliss as you massaged circles into his collarbones.
Finally, he came back to you, satisfaction painted all over his face. He traced a delicate finger over your cheekbone before cupping it in his hand. You nuzzled into it, basking in the warmth. Then, his thumb trailed over your lower lips just like yours did before. You enjoyed it for a moment, then realized what he was doing, shooting him a shocked look. Playfully, you try to pull away, not wanting to get trapped, but he was too quick, grabbing hold of your neck and pushing you back while he sat up.
He was still between your legs as your back pressed into the mattress. Kira’s eyes seemed a little darker now.
“Did you really think you’d get away with that, (Y/N)?” He pressed his lips into yours, biting the lower one gently. You had a sneaking suspicion it was going to be a long night.

Secrets of the Shore (Chapter 3)
Pairing: Pogues x OC, Eventually JJ x OC
Summary: This is just my rewrite of the show Outer Banks with my own twist by adding another main character which also happens to be John B’s twin sister.
Note: I’ll be honest, this isn’t my best chapter, so please don’t judge too harshly I swear it gets better!!! (: Again, forever grateful for all the kind feedback. I truly appreciate it. If you asked to be on the tag list and I accidentally forgot, please let me know!
Word Count: 4.3k
Warnings: Slight insinuation to sexual assault.
Chapter 1 Chapter 2 & Chapter 4
Like I said before, I'm good at advertising. Although the cell phone towers are still down, making it harder for me to get the word out about a party in the boneyard, I still know how to get around to the other teenagers on this island.
I sneak in an hour of surfing on the beach, afterwards finding Tourons and even some Kooks. These are the best people to go to when you want word to get around. They're rich and live for gossip. They have the internet and cell phone service, which means they can text their friends and send out tweets. And that is exactly what they do when I'm finished talking to them.
Later, I go with JJ and John B to get the kegs. As they work their magic, somehow securing two, I walk around the lot where most kids who live on the Cut hang out, hoping to score cheap booze from a stranger walking into the beer and beverage store. I use to spend a lot of my weekends here when my dad first disappeared. A small part of me still wants to. It was so easy to forget about my life falling apart when I was too wasted to form a complete sentence.
I tell them about the party and tell them to tell their friends and so on.
As I expect, the empty boneyard fills up quickly. To Kie's dismay, almost every kid has a red solo cup in their hand instead of a reusable one by the time the sun sets. Music and the chants of people playing drinking games fill my ears like a bird chirping on a Sunday morning.
Beer dribbles down my chin and onto my pink v neck crop top. JJ has his arm linked around mine, also chugging his drink, trying to down his before me. However, I beat him by one gulp and slam my cup on the sand as triumph.
"Seriously, Mar?" Kie scolds. She picks up my cup and throws it away.
JJ just smiles at me, maybe even looks at me with some kind of pride. It's hard to beat JJ in any drinking match, but I'm his biggest competition. I usually lose against him, but sometimes I have my nights where I'm undefeated.
He points his finger at me, pretending to be mad without losing the smile on his face. He takes a menacing step forward and bends down to lift me over his shoulder. I squeal in surprise and laugh against his back as he swings me around in circles.
When he sets me down, I shove his shoulders playfully. "Looks like you've finally met your match." JJ just shakes his head. "Get me another beer, loser?"
"You're lucky you're cute." He winks.
You can't understand the Outer Banks without understanding the boneyard. It's kinda like a three-layer burrito. There's us and our friends, working-class derelicts. Then, there are the Kooks, the rich second-homers. They're mostly from pouncy-ass boarding schools, just rich trustfarian posers. Our natural enemies. And then, there are the Tourons. Totally clueless. Here for a week on vacation with their families. Chum for the sharks. They're usually my first pick. A night with no attachments and a more than likely chance I'll never see them again.
I walk past Kie, who's sitting on drift wood talking to someone about zodiac signs and horoscopes. And when I pass Pope, I hear him talking about dead bodies and how TV doesn't portray the biological condition of them accurately. I giggle to myself when I see who he's talking to. A really pretty girl who wasn't expecting to get an anatomy lesson from the boy next to her. I make a mental note to work on Pope's flirting tactics.
As I make my way to the back of the beach, I see Sarah Cameron leaning off a fallen lifeguard stand. Her boyfriend, Topper Thornton, is right there with her, trying to get her to come down. Sarah Cameron's known as the Kook princess. Kiara's best friend in the ninth grade, worst enemy in the tenth grade. None of us know why she started hating her all of a sudden. She doesn't like to talk about it so we don't bring it up. However, John B works on Sarah's dad's boat thanks to me.
My teeth clench together at the sight of both of them. The two of them and their friends are the worst Kooks of all. Bad memories prickle my brain like a million tiny needles and the palms of my hands sweat against my solo cup.
I walk to the back of the beach and lean against a tree that's as close to a palm tree as this island is going to see. I like being back here when the sun goes down. It gives me the perfect view of the party. Watching people laugh and have fun because of a night my friends and I put together makes me feel satisfied. Like I did something to make their day a little more enjoyable.
"Now what's the life of the party doing back here all by herself?" A voice that makes every muscle in my body turn to ice says.
I force myself not to look in his direction. My hands clench tighter around my cup until it bends and beer sloshes on my hand.
"Trying to avoid grimy wandering hands from pompous pricks," I say through clenched teeth. I'm surprised my voice isn't as shaky as I feel. "Go away, Rafe."
Rafe Cameron ignores me and moves to stand in front of me. His blonde hair is slicked back with a gel that's probably more expensive than my entire outfit. He's wearing a salmon pink button up shirt and white shorts. The sight of him makes me sick and I don't know if I want to drink more heavily or throw up and call it a night.
"Oh come on, Marleigh. Let's not pretend like you don't want to finish what we started."
I stand up straighter, feeling bile rise in my throat. "I'd rather rip both of my eyes out with a spoon." My insult wipes his stupid cocky grin off his smug face. At first I take it as a compliment, but the look in his eyes chills me to the bone. "Get out of here, Rafe. I'm not going to tell you again."
Rafe jerks forward and pushes me back into the trunk of the tree. His forearm presses against my chest, right below my collarbone. I try fighting him off but he's surprisingly strong. His eyes swing back and forth with craze, his pupils large and dilated. He's gotta be on something. Cocaine maybe. I've heard rumors.
"You think you can talk to me like that? After what my dad did for your friends?"
"Your dad only helped them in hopes to cover up the mistake that you made," I seethe, trying to push him away again. I try to keep my breathing even and my eyes unblinking. I don't want him to think I'm afraid of him. Even though I'm scared enough to vomit on his two hundred dollar shoes. "I owe you nothing." There's a pause as Rafe considers his next words carefully. So I push even harder. "You know, if you keep bringing it up, people might overhear and start to talk. I don't know if even your dad could buy the entire island's silence."
"You seriously think you can threaten me? You're nothing but a dirty walking piece of trash Pogue. No one will believe the Cut's biggest whore." Rafe shakes his head. "Remember that next time you think about talking to me like that."
His words cut through me like a stab in the chest, but I try not to let him see that. I push against him, keeping my face pinched and my eyes unwavering. "I'm not the same girl I was eight months ago," I say, finally pushing him away from me.
Back then I was a messed up girl who's dad had just left after a big argument that resulted in him thinking she hated him. All I wanted to do was drown myself with drugs and alcohol in hopes to forget about him, even if that meant following Kie to a Kook party when she was trying to roll around in the Kook life. I was easy to manipulate and take advantage of...easy to hurt. But not anymore.
"You think I'm above hitting a girl?" Rafe breathes heavily, his hands clenched to his side. I struck a nerve. One more and he might actually attack me.
"No," I say honestly. "I don't think you're above anything...or anyone. Including me - a dirty walking piece of trash Pogue." I use his words against him.
Rafe jerks forward and raises his hand to hit me and I'm ready for the blow and a fight back, but someone's voice forces us to halt, stopping us like she just pressed paused on a movie screen.
Kie watches us with wide eyes and glances back and forth between us. She looks both scared and angry. Rafe doesn't even bother looking in her direction. He's more disappointed that she got in his way.
I stand up straight again and walk past him, making sure to shove him backwards with my shoulder. Kie wraps her arm around mine and pulls me in close as she guides me away from him. She looks behind us one last time to make sure Rafe isn't following us. When the coast is clear, she stops and turns to look at me with a stone cold expression.
"What the hell was that?" She says, trying to read my face. "Are you okay?"
I can barely hear her behind the screaming in my head. Dirty walking piece of trash Pogue. The Cut's biggest whore. Who would believe you?
"Fine," I shrug, feigning nonchalance. I look back to where I was just standing. Rafe's gone, but the nausea he left me with isn't.
"Marleigh."
"Seriously, Kie. I'm fine. Just some unresolved built up resentment coming out full-fledged. I can't say I'm surprised. Now that summer's started, we're probably going to see a lot more of them."
Kie sighs and looks at me sympathetically. I hate that look. "You should tell the boys."
"What? No way!" I snap.
"What if he -"
"He's not going to." I glare at her.
"Why won't you just -"
"So they can think of me as some pathetic little girl who needs protection from some self-centered Kook? Besides, John B and probably JJ will go after him and the last thing either of them need is charges pressed against them."
The noise of people yelling at one another and some cheering stops Kie from fighting back with me. We turn to look towards the water, seeing a crowd form around two people fighting. Dread creeps up my chest. If I had one hundred dollars, I'd bet it all that one of my friends is the center of attention in that crowd.
Kie and I run to them, pushing ourselves to the front. My breath hitches in my throat when I see who's involved. John B and Topper are fighting ankle deep in the ocean, each one getting a few good punches in.
"John B, stop!" I yell. I don't care who started the fight or why Topper deserves to get beaten to shit. If John B gets caught, the two of us are more than screwed with DCS.
"We're suppose to be incognito, remember?" Pope yells at my brother next to me.
"Babe!" Sarah yells at her boyfriend, jerking back and forth, trying to grab him by the shirt to pull him back. But his movements are scrappy. Sarah would just get hurt.
"Fight! Fight! Fight!" The crowd around us cheer like it's a high school wrestling match and not my brother, the one that threw them this party by the way. I can't believe people find this as a source of entertainment. Half of them wouldn't even last a second if they were the one's getting beaten to a pulp.
Topper gets the upper hand and throws John B into the water. I flinch from the pain that must of caused to John B's back.
"Hey, John B, don't make me drown you like your old man, all right?" Topper says.
In that moment my vision turns red and a switch flips in my body. I picture my hands around Topper's neck and him begging for me to let him go - him taking back those words.
When I step into the water to reach him, arms wrap around my waist, stopping me from going forward. I glare at the blonde Pogue and try shoving him away from me but that only makes his grip on me tighten.
"JJ, let me go," I grunt.
"Sorry, pretty girl. Can't do that." His lips are so close that I can feel his breath.
John B tackles Topper to the ground and punches him in the face again.
"Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!"
"John B, let it go!" Kie screams. "Stop, you guys!"
Topper kicks John B's feet from under him and just like that, JB is back in the water. The Kook kneels next to him and punches my brother across the face before shoving his head into the water.
"Topper stop!" I yell.
"Come on John B!" Pope yells.
Topper lets John B come up for air before dunking him back in. I feel my chest tighten when I realize what Topper is going to do, whether he means to or not.
"JJ, please! He's going to kill him! JJ!" I cry against his hold.
"Come on, Man!" Topper taunts John B, keeping his head under water.
I'm going to kill him, I think. The second JJ lets go, I'm going to rip Topper apart.
"Topper, stop! No!" Sarah cries.
"Pope!" JJ says, swinging me around before pushing me into our other friend's arms. "Hold her."
"What? No!" I fight back but even Pope is stronger than I give him credit for.
JJ disappears to God knows where and I'm left watching like a stranded duck. I feel useless, like I should be doing more to help my brother. Everything I said to Rafe only minutes ago goes straight out the window. Maybe I am weak and still a girl who needs protecting.
Then the world freezes. JJ holds the gun we found in the motel to Topper's head, not only making Topper pause, but the rest of the crowd too. Pope releases his hold on me and I stumble away from him. I only watch the scene unfold in front of me with wide eyes.
"Yeah, you know what that is," JJ says, clicking the safety off the gun. "Your move, broski."
"Come on!" Pope yells. "Chill dude!"
"Stop! JJ!" Sarah cries. "Put the gun down!"
"Did you say something princess?" JJ turns towards Sarah and points his gun at the sky.
"We're good. We're good." Topper stumbles away from my brother to stand in front of his girlfriend.
The second he backs away, I'm in the water helping John B. I pull his upper back into my lap and push his hair out of his face. He coughs up a couple gulps of water before relaxing against me.
"Kie! Can you check your psycho friend, please!" Sarah yells.
"Okay, everyone, listen up!" JJ addresses everyone else who still watch in fear. "Get the hell off our side of the island!" He fires two bullets into the sky, causing people to shriek and cry around me.
"Are you crazy?" Kie yells at him. "Why do that?"
"I'm saving his life, okay?" JJ yells back at her.
When people begin dispersing, Pope runs into the water to help me lift John B back to shore. He's in a daze and barely able to stand on his own.
The four of them help me drag him back to the Chateau, the party long forgotten. Kie covers John B with blankets and places a glass of water on the nightstand for when he wakes up. I don't say anything as the night wraps up. I'm not mad at JJ like Pope and Kie. He did what he had to do to save John B. Topper could have killed him and the police would probably chop it up as an accident and I would be left with no family.
"You guys should go," I say.
I just want to be alone. Between Rafe and Topper, all I can think about is sleep so I can wake up to a new day. Start over and try again.
"Are you sure?" JJ asks, looking between my eyes to find any sign for him to stay.
As much as I want JJ to stay the night and let me cuddle into him like the night before, it's best if I'm alone. So I reluctantly nod.
"You can stay at mine tonight, JJ," Pope offers.
I offer a weak smile before turning around to lock myself in my room. When I hear the door to the Chateau close one last time for the night, I sigh deeply and stare up at my ceiling. I'm restless, anxious, sweaty. As much as I want sleep, sleep doesn't want me. I toss and turn hoping for a wave of darkness to hit me but it never does.
I glance at my clock. 3:04 AM. I roll my eyes and groan to myself, pushing myself up against my bed's headboard. I tip toe out of the Chateau and make my way down to the dock. I dip my toes in the water and lay back against the wooden slacks. The moon's half crescent illuminates the water, dark with a mystery glint. It's cold against the night, feeling refreshing against my skin.
Even my mind isn't tired. My head wanders with different thoughts. Rafe, Topper, Scooter, the gun...my dad. His words echo through my ears like a skipping record. The night before he disappeared he told John B and I that he might have to vanish for a bit. This only caused a major fight to brew between my father and I whereas John B only nodded and said okay. I think this is why John B still holds on to hope that he's alive somewhere.
John B was always the loyal one to my father. Although they fought almost as much as my dad and I, they were quick to move on and pretend like it wouldn't happen again. Even though it always did. He tried to help my dad keep me on track with school, friends, and other activities. Most of the time, he just joined in on my antics. Sometimes I regret not giving my dad enough credit. He was a single father to Pogue twins with the distraction of his own obsession. My last words to him haunt me every day I pass his office.
"I hate you!" I screamed. I didn't give him the satisfaction of seeing my tears. I wanted him to know I was strong and that I didn't need him. I think my main intention was to hurt him like he hurt me, but I would do anything to take it back.
~ ~ ~
I wake up to the low rumble of an engine and the crunch of gravel underneath some tires. I blink away the sleep in my eyes, looking out into the marsh. The sun is above me, warming the entire island with it's summer heat so early in the morning.
My back aches as I sit myself up. I twist to find the noise that woke me up.
"Shit," I curse when I see the cop car parked in front of the Chateau.
Sheriff Peterkin sees me walking up my yard and waits for me to approach her before barging into my house. I squint against the morning light. Even though I'm not in the mood for a pop in, I actually like Peterkin. She's the only one I trust to do her job right.
"I hope you brought some coffee," I say before opening the door for her.
"This will be quick," She says. I watch her eyes scan my kitchen and living room judgmentally. "Where's your brother?"
I point to his room. Peterkin gives me a look to go first. I sigh, knocking twice on the door before letting myself in. John B is still passed out. Half of his body hangs off the bed. His left eye is officially black and blue, a mark I know Peterkin won't subtly ignore. It's the first thing she sees and gives me a sideways glance. I cross my arms and look away.
John B blinks up at us when he hears our footsteps. His brows furrow in confusion, sleep still fogging his head.
"Get decent, sweetie," Peterkin says. "We need to talk."
As we wait for JB to get dressed, I sit on the pull out couch in my living room, fumbling with my thumbs until he appears, dressed in an open button up and swim trunks. He glances between Peterkin and I for some answers but neither of us give him any.
"Sorry to break in like this," She says, pacing the floor. John B stands next to me with his arms crossed. "But DCS called. They wanted me to check on you. See how you two are doing." Neither of us answer. "So, how are you, besides -" She points to JB's shiner and I hold myself back from rolling my eyes. So far so good!
"Oh, no, I'm - I'm great," John B says, shrugging like our life is just full of rainbows and butterflies. "Yeah, fantastic. Uh... thanks for coming by."
Peterkin just smirks. "I'm so glad to hear you say that, John B, but I heard a few things that worried me. Let me see if I can remember. Oh yeah. One of the things I heard was that your Uncle Teddy, your guardian, hasn't been in the state for three months."
"Yes he has -"
Peterkin cuts me off. "You don't have to say anything. I know it's true. I called the school. They said you used to be a good student," She says, looking at John B. Then she looks at me. "You not so much. But John they say now you're failing all your classes."
"No. No, I'm only failing one and it's history. He's a dick. He's out for me - "
"I heard," Peterkin continues, not giving a damn about John B's bullshit excuses, "there was a fight on the beach yesterday, and a gun was involved."
My eyes snap up to look directly at Peterkin. I feel my heart drop to the pit of my stomach. What else was she going to ask? Would JJ get in trouble? Are we going to jail?
"Okay, gun?" John B plays dumb. "No. Did I get in a dustup? Yeah, but was there a gun? No. No way," He scoffs.
"That's okay I know who it was. I'll get to him. All I'm worried about right now is making sure you're in a safe home."
"Yeah," I say. "Super safe."
John B knocks the table next to him. "Super sound, sturdy. You know?"
"Uncle T's coming so..." I say to get John B to stop talking. He's a lot of things but a good liar isn't one of them.
"That's what he told you?" Peterkin looks at me with a raised brow.
"Yeah."
"If he is coming," Peterkin picks up a cigarette and sniffs it. "I think you should be allowed to stay."
"Thank you."
"But if I stick my neck out for you, you have to help me. Tit for tat."
John B tilts his head in confusion. "What - what does tat mean?"
I squeeze my eyes shut and let my head fall back. I swear I'm going to buy duct tape to keep this boy's mouth shut.
Peterkin ignores him. "Let me see, how can you help me? Oh, I know. So, a body was found in the marsh yesterday. Were you in the marsh yesterday?"
"Yeah," I decide to answer. "We were fishing for some drum."
"You catch anything?"
"Nah, we were skunked."
"Strange," She says, not believing me. "Fishing's usually good after a storm. All sorts of things get stirred up. You come across a wreck yesterday?"
"No." My heart falls deeper, but I try to keep a straight face.
This makes Peterkin sigh and she glances between the two of us. "You two are skimmin' just above the surface. Now, down here is foster care, juvie," She says, dropping her hand to about knee length. "Pretty big drop for smart kids like the both of you." She moves her hand to eye level. "Up here is you and your little friends doing whatever you want. Outer Banks...or foster care on the mainland." I let her threat swim in my brain. "You one inch above the surface, Routledge. If I was you, I'd start flapping my wings." She looks at us one last time, no longer wanting to play games. "Now, you sure you didn't come across a wreck yesterday?" She looks at John B who's more likely to blab than me.
I look up at my brother, warning him that he needs to lie.
He shrugs his shoulder, the lie sliding across his tongue like silk. "Yeah. Yeah. I'm sure."
Peterkin looks between John B and I and nods slowly. "It's better if you didn't, you understand? I'm gonna look the other way as long as you stay out of the marsh." She runs her finger along the wooden kitchen table and rubs the dust between her fingers. "I got dogs living better than this. You might wanna think about cleaning' up."
Peterkin lets herself out without saying goodbye. John B and I don't say anything until her car pulls out of the driveway and only then do we just share a look that says how screwed we both are.

Things that made watching Transformers (2007) easier and even enjoyable:
[note: B'verse gets the treatment that it gets by fandom for good reasons. There are tons of posts that dissect the bullshit of these movies far better than my second-language-english-non-american self could ever tackle, so I am not doing that, or plan on doing that. But if I decide that I'll get through every continuity of the franchise I will find a way to make it fun for myself. And so, this is my search for golden nuggets in these movies, because they did bring in new fans to the franchise and that's why we have other continuities that we might not have otherwise. Credit where it's due, and some positivity for those that did find B'verse at least amusing if nothing else. ]

Frenzy
Anytime Frenzy was on screen made me smile because his movements and personality were hilarious, he is just so expressive despite looking like someone super glued a bunch of knifes together. I wouldn't know it was Frenzy if I didn't go to the Wiki, but no matter that, he was funny and that's what matters.
The original Cybertronian robot modes
We don't see them for long, but the glimpses were glorious. Just look at Optimus
Gorgeous. What I wouldn't give to see the details up close. Maybe I'll go looking eventually, but this is just so nice.
We also get a "sexily rises from the pool" scene with Ironhide (probably unintentional and I am biased due to being a robofucker. In any case, very very nice and Cybertronians look so good as aliens)
"Excuse me, are you the Tooth Fairy?"
You see this kid?
This little girl was the only human I cared about in the movie until I saw just how badass Mikaela is, and how cool the military dude is. I don't like kids, but I would lay down my life for this girl.
This one scene just makes me think of what would happen if her parents showed up way earlier. Ironhide would be her guardian and it would be both adorable and hilarious because "Honey, you have to drive in a sentient alien that looks just like our car because the goverment men said so or there will be consequences and potential alien threats."
There are so many joke potentials there; the cultural barrier, the "I am the ine that is supposed to keep her safe" glaring contests, there is just so much shenanigans that could happen.
Also, tea party with the kid. Tea party with the kid.
Sam Witwicky actually reacts like an average human would when faced with the situations he finds himself in
Do I like Sam Witwicky? No, he is the kind of character that I would want to punch irl because of his personality and actions. He is disgusting. But watching him scamper and scream and stutter when faced with giant metal robot aliens that can squish him like a bug? Good, that was a beliavable reaction and I enjoyed it a great deal.
Megatron. Just, ✨Megatron✨
(the best screenshot of the few I could take while watching, no, I am not going back for a better one, he looks perfect like this)
I also laughted at how they kept him frozen like a popsicle. And not even well, like, they COULD'VE made an actual freezer and pop him in instead of using those couple of tubes just so he was displayed for all personell to gawk at. HE CRASHED IN THE ANTARCTIC!
The design looks so good, because it looks ALIEN and POINTY and AGH!!! The colors? There are no colors that would make him stand out, he looks like someone opened a cutlery drawer, mixed up what's inside, threw in some extra knifes for a good measure and then shook the whole thing until this guy materialized from the pile. It is both incredibly annoying and satisfying.
🔪
Mr. Welker did an amazing job with his voice, I don't know what the directions were, but oh man it sure sent shivers down my spine. That is the kind of voice that spells "You are going to die" and I already have my coffin picked out.
EDIT: SO APPARENTLY! IT WAS NOT WELKER THAT VOICED MEGATRON.
It was Hugo Weaving, and yes the man did am amazing job, but I apologize a million times, I was CERTAIN that THE OG VA OF MEGATRON WOULD ALSO HAVE VOICED MEGATRON. LIKE, OKAY BAY, OKAY!
🔪
LOOK AT THE AMOUNT OF ICE! With how quick he came back fully online once Frenzy turned off the freeze liquid tubes, I bet he was half awake through the whole thing. Systems just below idling or something, in any case, AGENTS YOU ARE SO DUMB! WHO WAS GIVING SUBPAR FUNDING TO THEM, THEY BETTER BE FIRED!
I also was glad that Sam refused to call him by the name the sector asigned to him, despite Megatron being in stasis. And that he insisted they use the correct name. Good job Sam, acknowledge the threat by the actual name and show respect to a fellow sentient lifeform. Even though said lifeform is hellbent on destruction of the universe and your world.
ALSO, AND I CANNOT STRESS THE LAUGHTER AND AMUSEMENT HERE; the sheer DISRESPECT! They don't disassemble Megatron's corpse. No, these idiots, these absolute morons decide to dump him into the ocean, letting him sink to the lowest possible point (not sure if they did say it was the M' Trench or not), where there are proper freezing temperatures - good! You're learning, good job!! - just... In full. Full corpse. What's left of him. Just blup! Down with the fishies he goes!
I understand that they probably didn't know how to approach Optimus about it, but... At least behead the guy. He came back ONCE, who is to say he won't come back again?! Safety precautions my dears.
They also completely disregard what a giant extraterrestrial metal alien rusting away on the bottom of the ocean could do to the ecosystem at large. Like, I find this incredibly amusing, because this ISN'T something most folks think about when watching a movie but we have giant squids down there. We have so much weird things down there, the ocean isn't even fully explored AND YOU WANT TO CHUCK AN ALIEN CORPSE DOWN THERE?!
Now the real question: is he a looker? *looks at the pictures* hmmmm, depends on if you like knifes. Like, really like knifes. Like really, really REALLY want to get it on with a fine assembly of kitchen knifes that were exposed to the elements but somehow haven't rusted away completely.
I think he's neat.
Needs a good long powerwash though. Preferrably with something to help the whole "I was frozen for more than 50 years and sprang back to action as soon as I woke up" thing that happened.
My man needs to take a moment and get his bearings, like dude. Please. You can conquer the world after some energon and slow system boot-up period. The strain on the systems my dude, you ain't young.
Also love that this "death" was probably reused in TFP because lord golly, do we love our faves ending up under the sea. (Though Megan took a much bigger fall, Bayverse WAS PLOPPED INTO THE WATER LIKE A NEWLY ACQUIRED FISH I CAN'T YOU GUYS I CAN'T!)
In short: I love the comedy of american military giving such disrespect to an Alien Warlord. These guys are really sealing their fate.
I loved the way they got the Witwicky family to be important to the plot
The whole "selling my great great grandpa's glasses on e-bay" thing gives us a very good self insert/OC/rewrite/movie AU potential. Don't like Sam and his disgustingness? Find a way to write a cousin or some far off relative or hell, even just someone who buys the glasses off e-bay and go wild with it!
Archibald was also clearly an inspiration for Isaac Sumdac as far as I can tell, what with both of them using Megatron as a means of helping technology advance.
Only difference being one of them lived and actually talked to Megatron after he came back online and the other got driven to madness and death due to the amount of information beamed into his brain. Isaac also acquired a space baby daughter, so the guy is absolutely luckier of the two.
Mikaela being fucking competent and badass throughout the movie, and not being just fanservice eyecandy
I could do without the fanservice, but her personality? I loved it. I loved that she wasn't crawling to Sam and wasn't being "hard to get". Which is also why I was very displeased at the very sudden "oh yeah, romance! She returns his feelings after he took her for a ride and let her vent her frustrations!". The movie is 2 hours long and they could throw in some moments where these two connect?
Welp, it is an action movie, boy gets girl no matter what, can't complain about the staple in the genre.
However, Mikaela x Optimus? Now THAT is something I considered as soon as the two locked eyes and interacted. Like, even taking my shipping goggles off, these two could have a very interesting dynamic and Mikaela could be a very good protagonist. I wonder what the movie would be like with her as the lead and Sam being the fucking moron she has to drag along with her.
BUT ALSO! Can we talk about the horrible, excruciating fact that her and Bumblebee drove around with Bee's damaged legs dragging over asphalt all the time he was shooting at 'Cons? There were sparks flying! SHE WAS DRIVING BACKWARDS! She took command of the situation and did what she could because Bee still wanted TO FIGHT!
Also, they way she beat up Frenzy? Gorgeous, I want to slap Sam's non-existent balls off for not atleast saying "thanks". The dude would be sliced thinner than cabbage if she wasn't there.
The millitary man we are supposed to care about because his wife gave birth while he was on duty and we see his baby three times in the whole movie, actually being a pretty awesome and well-written character
Look, personally, I was a little confused at the reason why we were seeing his wife and baby interacting/the scene where she thinks her husband is dead. Mostly because I don't like kids, so scenes like that, when I don't even know who the character is, have no impact at all. Him having a baby isn't going to make me like the guy more, unless I know his character. Him being absent because he's on duty doesn't mean he'll be a good dad (though he looks like the kind of man that will try his best, and I like that in a man). So seeing his wife and kid at the start of the movie seemed pointless to me.
BUT! FOCUSING ON THE POSITIVES HERE!
Lennox is a good character and whenever he was on screen I was invested in what is going to happen to him. He's the kind of action movie lead that would have me invested, despite my meh interest in mainly gun fight oriented action movies.
Essentially, loved the guy, would love to see more of him while also being able to tell what's happening on screen. Also the comedy scenes he was in were usually funny.
~
Okay so these are the things I like about the first movie! It was very long, had to watch it on 2,5x speed because it simultainously dragged while ALSO giving me too much information, but the moments like these and the way my imagination latched onto characters I liked made it watchable. It isn't a movie I'd use to introduce someone to the TF franchise, but it provided me with lots of material for my imagination to run wild.
#moca watches#transformers#transformers bayverse#moca screeches#Yes the cutlery divider is due to the Decepticons looking like they do. It amuses me greatly.

Winx Club Rewrite Is a Go
I don’t know how I ended up here because I’ve always maintained that rewrites aren’t my thing (and I still kinda do) because it feels a lot like reading the same thing over and over again and to me it can be annoying. Yet, here I am with my very own Winx Club rewrite.
I started writing the first episode today but I have A LOT planned out already. Seasons 1 and 3 are pretty solid already even if there is still a lot of character work to be done and logistics to be figured out. I also have some structure for seasons 2 and 4 and I figured out the backstory of the Wizards of the Black Circle yesterday and that gave me an indescribable feeling which is pretty much what I took as a sign that it’s time to talk about this project.
To explain what I am doing - I am taking everything and changing it while keeping it the same. If that doesn’t make sense, then imagine that I am keeping the major plot points and most of the episodes (I have removed some because they are just irrelevant) have the same starting and ending point as they do on the show but there are big changes between those. Seasons 5, 6 and - you’ll find out in a sec - are going to have a lot more changes. I have removed transformations and switched around some of the transformations so that they are earned at a different point than in canon. I have picked a place to end this already and I have arcs for each season.
Now when it comes to the seasons, I have removed season 7 which will be done as a “movie” and will have additional plot still because there really is THAT little to season 7. Season 8 becomes season 7 in my rewrite and is the last and final season. It is the end of Winx’ journey and I think it is a satisfying end to a pretty long story. I am keeping the movies but:
1) There will probably be “movies” after seasons 1 and 2 as well just to make the structure make sense and because I feel like there is enough to be talked about between the seasons.
2) SotLK is majorly different from canon because there was no sense to that movie and only plot holes instead. I’ve saved what was salvageable from it and mostly put it in season 3 to free the whole movie for more interesting and logical stuff to happen. The end goal is the same, though - bringing Marion and Oritel (and Domino) back.
3) Magical Adventure is the least changed but there will be several changes here as well. The plan is to make the movie relevant on a wider level than just to Winx and the Specialists but I still don’t have that clear a vision of it. Just some things that I want to see but need piecing together.
3) The “movie” after season 5 will deal with the season 7 plot instead. I have switched them around. There will be Kalshara and Griffin and Faragonda and some major Bloom drama as well. I need to make these pieces connect, too, but this one feels almost coherent at the current time.
4) Politea is saved for the last movie that is after season 6. You’ll see why. Anyway, major Daphne and Bloom feelings are planned for that movie... and I don’t know what else yet. We’ll see.
I am currently working on all of the seasons and all of the movies at once so it is a bit of a mess. I write down and rewrite ideas. Everything is one big map in my head that isn’t completely translatable to someone else. Anyway, you can find everything I have posted about this in the “wc rewrite” tag. You can ask me questions if you have them and I’ll see how much I’ll share while trying to resist the urge to spoil everything because I have been at this for about 5 months now and I have so many ideas that I adore and want to talk about. Despite that I have no idea how quickly I can work on it. This is bound to take years which was the hardest part of this project for me to reconcile with but I really want to do it. So let’s see how that goes.
I want to say that I am planning on doing one episode a chapter but because I have decided to both develop the characters and be self-indulgent, that will make the chapters long. I don’t think that they are devoid of tension or action, however, because this thing is packed with so much stuff happening. Here’s a little sneak peak from the first episode:
“Bloom, honey, wake up,“ Vanessa’s mellow voice reached her through the colorful explosion into which her dream was retreating.
“Just five more minutes, mom,” Bloom mumbled as she wormed her head under the pillow to block out the interruption. She reached for the fairy princess in her dream with hair of liquid light and a touch like sinking through the reflective surface of a mirror that showed none of Bloom’s own features to her. She’d lose not just the way but her own self if she let go of the figure in front of her.
“You’ll be late for school, sleepy head.”
The woman evaporated in a heap of steam with a nasty hissing sound that rattled Bloom’s bones as she jumped into bed. Vanessa’s apologetic smile came into focus to draw a groan out of Bloom’s parched throat as she threw her head back.
“Not funny, mom,” Bloom grabbed her fallen pillow from the floor and plopped herself back down on her mattress, eyes wide open as the image of the fairy burned in her mind. “I wanted to see where she’d lead me!”
“Who?” Vanessa sat down on the edge of the bed.
“The fairy from my dream,” Bloom covered her eyes with her free hand to narrow her focus to the woman. “I’ve seen her before, I just...” she threw the pillow next to her on the mattress. “I can’t remember where.”
“Well, I’m not surprised. You’ve read every book on fairies that you could get your hands on. It’s only natural that they’ve started blurring together,” Vanessa chuckled.
“Yeah, but it’s not that.” Bloom shot up once again, her vision spinning for a moment from the sudden action. “She’s not a character. She’s something... someone else.” She twisted a strand of hair around her finger looking for the warmth enveloping her at the presence of the mystery fairy. It couldn’t be the first time she’d dreamed about her but she couldn’t recall more than that. “Grandma always said that dreams are important.” Another reason not to let go of the fleeting imagery in her head.
“I’m pretty sure she meant the other kind of dreams,” Vanessa’s amusement was more of a ghost itself now that Bloom had mentioned the newest loss in their family. It was her who had to stay open and talk to Bloom about Mike’s mother when he froze every time the topic was brought up until Bloom could no longer bear to cause him that. “Did you finish your art project last night? I sure hope it was inspiration that kept you up so late and not the lack of it.”
Bloom beamed despite the deflection. “I did!” She jumped out of bed as her mom made space for her to launch herself at her desk where her masterpiece was covered by stray sheets to keep her parents from peeking without her there to see the reactions. Finals had really inserted themselves in all areas of her life–including dreams–to throw a wrench in her works. Finishing a drawing she’d been sitting on for over a month had let her breathe fresh air again. “Here it is.” She pulled two sheets from the pile. “This is the sketch I did during spring break.” She’d spent a whole day wandering Gardenia looking for the building to put her vision into. “And here is the one I’ve reimagined.”
Vanessa gasped, hands flying to her mouth as her eyes gleamed with unformed tears. Not unlike her response to Bloom’s first steps in art back when she’d been three but, somehow, her reactions had developed to match Bloom’s growing skillset without giving undue credit.
Bloom’s heart swelled in her chest with pride boosted by the trust she had in her mom. Her work was almost complete now that it’d accomplished the desired effect with one parent. She’d been in awe herself by the alterations she’d made to Earth architecture to make it elaborate and alien enough for a fantasy... something. She still couldn’t decide what format she wanted to create her world in. Comics were a handy option but a vision of an elusive deal for a TV show still reared its head every time she reached for a pencil and a blank sheet of paper. And there was, of course, the popularity of video games accompanied by her lack of skills or contacts when it came to coding. There was always one more step to the door of her fairy utopia but she had to focus on the art for now.
“I hope that keeping this up will be easier after school is done stifling my inspiration,” Bloom chewed on her lip as she waited for her mom to collect herself enough to give the verdict of whether a summer job was about to take over that function now.
“Uninspired? You?” Vanessa shook her head in disbelief. “Honey, you have the imagination to create worlds and I am sure that one day you will,” Vanessa reached out cautiously towards the museum Bloom had created for her fantasy world. Her fingers barely brushed the paper to leave no traces of their presence and the bittersweet look on her face was too much for Bloom to stand. Her art was not meant to be an untouchable monument. It was supposed to be a temple, a home. Maybe her yearning had come through too well.

Mall is Life | INTRO : She’s Broke, He’s Broke, We’re All Broke!
Summary: Your dad thinks it’s best for you to pay off the credit card that you just maxed out. Meaning, it’s time for you to finally get your very first job…at the mall. As a true blue spoiled daughter from a very rich family, what could possibly happen? Form a labour union and overthrow the oppressive government with 7 other underpaid and overworked guys??? Or maybe just form a bond with them and have the best time of your life?
Pairing: bts x reader
Genre: mall!au, lowkey a sitcom, fluff, eventual angst, and a whole lot of pure crack
Word count: 5.3k+
Notes: As I’m doing final rewrites for this, I overheard my co-teacher call one of our students a “crack” and I honestly have never related hard to a student. Anyways, transferring this from gdocs to tumblr took sooooo long. I literally aged 10 years. I didn’t think writing in this style would be such a pain so I really do hope you enjoy this! Keep safe and hang on while the world still seems like it’s on its way to destruction.

Red
Red is all you see.
Your vision has been clouded by the colour red since the moment you stepped inside the mall.
Sale season is upon you and red tags are everywhere!
Buy one get one for a girlfriend sized “boyfriend t-shirt”, a free cookie if you get 7 drinks, 5% off on your next purchase from Kucci and… Gasp! 75% off for a light sabre handheld immersion blender???
Do you even cook or watch Star Trek or whatever it’s called? Heck no.
bUT IT’S MORE THAN HALF OFF and it looks cool so might as well get it.
Right?
You saunter off towards the sights of free or marked down signs to start making damages.
“Ehem.”
The sound of your best friend, Taehyung’s voice, freezes you in place and you feel like a kid caught in the act of stealing a candy.
Literally, you have both your hands in front of you with your mouth open and watering.
“Just what do you think you’re doing?” His hands are placed on his hips, like a slightly inconvenienced Karen.
“Oh, uh...I was just, you know!? About to admire the general splendour!”
He was like, ya right sweetie.
“Shut up. This isn’t a Jane Austen book.”
Well, one can dream.
And lowkey, you were kinda expecting him to not get the reference.
…or even understand what you just said.
Damn.
You really need to give Taehyung some credit.
He is after all, your best friend and that is an achievement in itself.
“Focus, y/n. FOCUS. We’re here on a mission, don’t get distracted.”
Ugh, right.
Reality hit you again like a ton of bricks.
“And as if you can afford anything! Unless, you’re in for some service water.”
You scoff hard.
Though he isn’t lying.
See, the thing is, your family is rich.
Like rich 𝑹𝑰𝑪𝑯.
Like “rent a whole stadium for your dad’s morning run” rich
You, alone, though?
ʰᵉ ʰᵉ ʰᵉ
“Sorry, you’re absolutely right. We’re here for one thing only and that is to find a job! We’re not leaving until we get one.”
And that’s what you did for the next two hours
Job hunting
You might be wondering, “If we're so rich then why are we looking for a job?”
Well kids, let me tell you a quick story.
Here’s what happened
A week ago, you had probably the most embarrassing yet most eye opening experience of your life.
You were shopping
(like duh do you have anything else to do?)
And your credit card got…
Wait for it…
…………….
🚫DECLINED🚫
◉.◉
Like, that can happen????
Next thing you know, you’re on the phone with your dad and he is MAD
You don’t even know why he is so pressed about it.
Okay, so you maxed out one of his seemingly endless supply of credit cards.
BIG DEAL.
It’s not like he lost a bunch of money.
Maybe to a normal person, yeah…
BUT to you guys?
Come on! He can earn that money back in like two days.
Besides, he always goes on saying that he'd willingly give everything for you, his one and only princess.
bUT NOoOOoo! He has to teach you to be rEsPoNsIbLe with money! You need to be a 𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏.
"What? You think I'm a money making machine here?"
Well, tbh he kinda is.
"You think money grows on trees?"
Well, technically, money is paper so...ya it kinda does.
"I don't slave around just so you could plunge yourself in all of your whims!"
Uh, actually.
You kinda do though if we refer back to your whole willingly-give-everything-to-you shtick.
So that wasn't real, huh?
ALL MEN DO IS LIE.
smh
Taehyung, on the other hand...
Well, his mother’s old but rich sugar daddy just recently passed away and unfortunately all his money and prized possessions were inherited by his one and only beloved son.
All they got was a couple of stupid jewelry, which did allow them to pay for a new (less glamorous) apartment, but still
Eh.
What a complete disappointment.
11+ years of being a sugar baby, all for nothing.
So now it’s back to the slums for the both of them.
Sad reacs for a fallen warrior.
I’m talking about Tae’s mother, not the sugar daddy...
THOUGh rip for him. Uh,,,,
He’ll be missed? I guess???
(1 like of this post = 1 respect for him)
DW about his mother though. She doesn’t seem quite fazed by it.
“This is why if you find a rich old bastard, make sure he doesn’t have any kids. That or have an affair with their kid. Oh well, on to the next one.” She told you and Tae during the funeral.
It’s been three months since.
She’s currently working at a hair salon and also,,,,
Taehyung thinks she’s seeing someone again cause she’s been using her designated “𝑠𝑒𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑖𝑛𝑔” parfum.
WHICH you still don’t know if you should be impressed or be concerned about.
Nonetheless, you respect the hustle of this woman. ✊✊✊✊
Unfortunately, her efforts are still not enough to satisfy their expensive needs so that brings us to the present situation.
Actually, it couldn’t have been more perfect though!
You and your best friend coincidentally just happen to be in the same dilemma.
Kind of
Well, not really
Plus, it’s not really the most pleasant circumstance bUT STILL
The point is, you’re in this together and that’s enough for the both of you.
:’)
“Ugh, this totally blows.” Taehyung says as you both sit on one of the food court booths.
“Which one, us not getting any jobs yet or the fact that we’re hanging at the food court?”
“Get used to it, princess. Honestly, you'll find that the food here isn't as disgusting as you think they are." He says as he fishes for his phone in his man purse.
"Well, at this rate, I won't be able to get used to it since I sTILL haven't found a job. Why are the good stores so demanding? Like, an intensive classroom and in-store training only to have a possibility to get hired??? To think that I'm a loyal Louie Button customer!"
(A/n: This is actually a real procedure for Louis Vuitton, at least in my own experience. But I only applied and never went through with the training cause I figured that it just ain't for me.)
You continue ranting your little heart out about how you could sue these stores for unfair treatment.
Taehyung, though, has long tuned you out and has pointed his full attention to his phone.
This is turning out to be a lot more disastrous than what he anticipated.
So he needs to phone a friend in.
Orrrrr a couple.
He's getting desperate, okay??
The entire spring collection was practically screaming out to him when they entered Kucci.
He's a 𝓚𝓾𝓬𝓬𝓲 𝓫𝓸𝔂 through and through.
He hasn't missed a single Kucci season collection in years.
IN YEARS, PEOPLE!
He can feel his right eye twitch at this blasphemy.
"I'm telling you! These stores are absolutely ungrateful-hEY! Are you even listening??"
"No. I thought that was obvious the second I whipped my phone out."
( ͠° ͟ʖ ͡°)
Rude
He didn't even try to deny it.
"You know, I really don't need you to be mean to me right now."
"Sorry y/n but this…" He lifts his phone up, "is more important right now."
What could possibly be more important than your current problem??
If you don't leave today with any form of productivity, you just might have to sell the entirety of your closet.
And we all know that ain't happening.
"By 'that', you mean?"
His phone vibrates a couple of times, indicating that he just received a bunch of messages.
He instantly opens them, disregarding you once again.
I-
Seriously, thIS bOy!
"Hello???? I'm still here and we're still hideously unemployed!"
He looks up to you with a smile that seems a tad bit too eerie.
Okay, this is somewhat alarming ngl.
"I called in some reinforcements."
Reinforcements... Huh?
What's that supposed to mean?
You stare at him with scrunched brows and mouth slightly agape.
And as if on cue, a male voice rings from behind you.
"Tae! We're here!"
"Jimin! Seokjin hyung!"
Ohhhhhhh
*Looks at the camera*
Them.
♫︎DUN DUN DUN♫︎
For everyone's information, Taehyung grew up a hair away from the poverty line.
He was in his preteen years when their family found success through his mother's sugar daddy.
He didn't grow up rich whICH there's NOthing wrong WiTh THAT.
A person's financial status does not define them.
Taehyung's friends, however, already have a collective definition in your head.
One word
༼ つ ◕◡◕ ༽つ MESS™
♫︎DUN DUN DUN♫︎
A hot mess you are so not willing to become a part of.
Tae keeps them away from you because he knows that they are not the type of people you would associate yourself with.
Which is why you've never met any of them.
...Until today.
♫︎DUN DUN DUN♫︎
Guess being besties with a broke Taehyung means it only makes sense that you finally meet them.
♫︎dUN dUn- ok that's enough of that.
"We got the Code 17 message. I can't believe I'll ever get that from you. This is history, man! We need to celebrate!" Someone says accompanied by what sounds like someone wiping a window.
You look at Taehyung with a very displeased look.
May god and every higher being out there give you strength.
He doesn't even look the slightest bit bothered by what might be one of the boldest crossovers to ever happen.
Also, "Code 17"??? Wth?
"What's wrong? You never ask to meet at the food court… And who's this with--oh." A different, softer voice talks this time.
"You guys remember my bestie, right? Y/n? Well, I think it's time you guys finally meet."
From behind you, Seokjin and Jimin share a slightly wary yet excited look.
Jimin, being the natural people lover that he is, instantly thinks that he's about to have another best friend.
From what he's heard from Taehyung, you two are slightly alike, being a total softie.
So don't be surprised if a montage of things like the two of you going on picnics at the mall garden or watching the premiere of the next Disney movie plays in his head.
Seokjin, on the other hand, being the woman lover that he is, instantly thinks that he's about to score big time.
He's heard a lot about you from Tae but the only thing that stuck (and pretty much the only thing that matters) is that you are HELLA rich.
$ ℂ𝕙𝕒𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕓𝕒𝕓𝕪 $
So are we even surprised that what he imagines is him breezing through the luxury section of the mall, with his personal butlers in tow, and having everyone swoon at him?
“Y/n,” Taehyung gives you a pointed look as if telling you to be nice. “Meet Seokjin hyung and Jimin, two of my other best friends.”
Alright, you heard that these people work here at the mall.
So you’re gonna have to suck it up if it means being stuck with them for god knows how long.
You just hope they have some level of bearableness.
(Oh and some form of acceptable fashion taste too please, thank you very much!)
As much as you're not in the mood to smile, you still plaster on the sweetest one you can muster and turn around to face the two----
Oh
(o.O)
oh oh oh oh ho ho ho ho
Hello
hELLO indeed.
One of them has a white button up with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, black slim fit trousers, and a brown newsboy cap like a cherry on top.
He's also wearing a brown apron with a small name tag that says 𝓙𝓲𝓶𝓲𝓷.
The other guy's more casual with his baby pink t-shirt, french tucked into his black ripped skinny jeans.
Personally, you wouldn’t really call them amazing outfits…
bUT SWEET BABY JESUS ARE THEY DOING THINGS.
GREAT THINGS
(Tbh maybe it’s their handsome faces that do it for you)
"Hi, I'm Jimin! It's very nice to finally meet you."
He extends his hand and you take it in a heartbeat because my god that smile.
Wooooooooooo
Now, that's what greets you into heaven.
"Tae says a lot of good things about you and I think- oof."
Cute pink shirt guy (rudely) shoves him to the side.
Jimin almost topples to the ground and it makes you want to stand and check up on him.
The poor cutie.
For some reason, you feel like Taehyung and pink shirt guy get along well.
"AND I'M Seokjin!"
This time, Seokjin swiftly takes your hand without any warning which leaves you feeling flustered.
“Umm… Nice to meet you..?” You manage to politely croak out.
He gives your hand a kiss and then drops you a sultry wink.
Thank god you're sitting right now.
You'd be a lying fool to say that that didn't make your knees weak.
But ngl, that’s a face that definitely greets you into hell.
Like, no offense to his handsome face but you are sure there’s something completely devious going on underneath.
No one can change your mind on that.
"OKAY! Enough introductions, we’ll have plenty of time for that later... Where are the others??”
“Hoseok hyung said that he's with Jungkook and they're on their way to get Namjoon hyung." Jimin says as he fixes his hat that slightly slid off.
"Well, they better hurry!"
Taehyung DEFINITELY did not have any reasons to cut your introductions off.
He just did not like how you are practically drooling over Jimin and Seokjin.
He’s nOT JEALOUS OR ANYTHING
It’s just...
It’s not like you’ve never been close to any hot guys before.
Uh hello???
HE’S HOT
And you’re with him 24/7
Wait…
Do you even think he’s hot???
Okay now that’s a thought he never considered before.
Damn bro
Now Tae’s having an existential crisis…
anD hE’s dEfiniTEly NOT jEALous!!!
ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ
"WE'RE HERE!"
All four of you direct your heads to the sound of a new voice and you start to think that Taehyung might actually be playing a joke on you.
Come on!
THREE 👏 MORE 👏 HOT 👏 GUYS 👏
???
This can't be real.
This is literal heaven!
Gasp!
Are.
You.
DEAD?!
Maybe you're right about Jimin being what greets you into heaven!
It all makes sense.
“Dude, we came as soon as we could. We even pulled Namjoon out of his rabbit hole.” The handsome one wearing a sports jersey says.
“This better be important. I didn’t even get to ask permission to take a break! I’m supposed to be stocking utensils right now.” The handsome one wearing an atrocious outfit of a bright blue shirt and a much brighter yellow pants chimes in.
The handsome one wearing loose fitting jeans, a plaid button up and a black t-shirt underneath just stayed at the sidelines not saying anything.
Out of all of them, you think he’s the most stylish one.
Your eyes meet while you are assessing his outfit but he instantly looks away.
A noticeable blush blooms on his cheeks and you almost swoon.
Awww he’s extra cute.
“Yeah, cause organising cutlery is more important than a friend in a literal crisis.” Taehyung says in a sarcastic tone.
“So what are we doing here?”
“What is this ‘crisis’ you are referring to?”
“Yo, who is she?”
Namjoon, Jin, and handsome jersey boy all talk at the same time.
Ugh you need a massage.
Being surrounded by these broke handsome men is making you lightheaded.
“This is Y/n. You know, my other best friend.”
“Oh, your money buddy.” Handsome jersey boy butts in.
Uh EXCUSE YOU, WHAT’S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?
You scoff hard and loud.
Taehyung clears his throat and you thought he was going to make a comment defending you or something.
Oh honey, you are wrong.
Because for the nth time today, he just brushes you off.
“Yeah, yeah. Whatever. Anyways, Guys, meet Y/n. Y/n, this is Hoseok hyung, Namjoon hyung, and Jungkook.”
You didn't think it'd be possible but for the first time ever, you so badly want to rip someone's hair out.
And not just someone, it's Taehyung.
Normally, a sassy, moody, rude boy Taehyung doesn’t affect you at all.
But then again, his negative vibes were never really directed to you.
And given the current circumstance, you’re also not in the best mood as well.
So you aren't as inviting as you usually are when you shook hands with the three boys.
Somehow, even their overflowing handsomeness did not do anything for you now.
Your presence, however, did something to the three boys.
AND I MEAN A LOT.
Confused, attracted, intimidated, confused, in awe, slightly scared, nervous, confused, hungry…
What? Hoseok hasn’t had lunch and coincidentally, he started feeling his tummy rumble when he looked at you.
…..
Fun fact: Hoseok is DEFINITELY NOT A CANNIBAL NOR HE EVER PLANS ON BEING ONE.
If ever you were thinking...
“Okay, so here’s the sitch.” Tae starts to explain your situation and everyone listens to him intently.
Little did you all know, the final member of the friend group just arrived at the food court and is now walking towards where you all are.
It wasn’t difficult to spot your group with Namjoon’s obnoxiously brightly coloured towering self and the few girls hanging around.
Probably Jimin’s fanclub.
“And so, here we are!” Tae finishes, keeping everyone updated.
"Wow, so you two are looking for an actual job? Like, here? At the mall??" A very baffled Seokjin asks.
Tae rolls his eyes.
"Yes. Is that really hard to believe?"
"Actually, yes. It is."
Another male voice is heard coming from someplace.
“Yoongi hyung!”
Oh great! Another one.
Surely, this guy’s not that interesting.
I mean, what are the fricking odds that he’s also an immaculate being??
You turn around and your mouth drops to the floor.
No no no no no.
No way!
Another freaking gOOD LOOKING GUY HAS WALKED UP TO YOUR GROUP.
Okay, this is getting unbelievable now.
Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?
Like, where and how on earth did Taehyung manage to get and round up SIX insanely good looking guys??
What is this? Are you on The Bachelorette??
Wait no
It's like Oprah!
And instead of cars, she's giving away handsome men
You get a hot Asian man, you get a hot Asian man, you all get a hot Asian man!
OR MAYBE
Are you on MTV Punk'd?????
Statistically speaking, a hot guy can have two or maybe three equally hot best friends
BUT SIX???
ARE YOU KIDDING?
Is Taehyung like Thanos? Collecting the six infinity stones?
Thanos? lol.
If anything, he's more like Henry VIII with his six wives.
“So you guys didn’t even wait for me, huh?”
Yoongi, oh so casually, just takes a seat beside you
Without even giving you a single glance or whatnot.
“I didn’t know you'd be here at the mall today?”
“Yeah, what are you doing here?”
Yoongi raises an eyebrow. “It’s a free country, I can be here whenever I want to be.”
Well, can’t argue with that logic.
The mall is practically your second home at this point.
“... Also… uTunes is hiring and uh… I’m applying...”
You don’t understand why but everyone else looks either shocked or annoyed at Yoongi’s announcement...
Are you missing something here?
“Man, you need to give it up! That place can suck it.”
Yoongi gives Seokjin one of the scariest glare you’ve ever seen.
It could rival against your dad’s famous death glares that he gives to his incompetent subordinates.
Namjoon shakes his head disapprovingly, “You’re applying there again?? I can’t believe it.”
Yes, again.
This is going to be the seventh time he’s applying at uTunes Records, the most popular music shop there is.
So many people flock to it even though we’re already in the digital age.
But he doesn’t question it.
All he cares about is getting a job there because the employees get to play their own music in the store.
Do you know how much of a popularity boost that is?
A CRAP TON.
On top of that, one of the employees gets a chance to get signed by a record label every year.
And if you're not awarded by that chance, you can still meet agents and get signed through their many parties.
Because of that, so many people also apply for a job there.
But they unfortunately have such high standards which is why even after three years, he still hasn’t passed their vibe check.
"Listen, seven's a lucky number. I have great feelings about this one. Besides, I've built up a strong résumé. Winning one of uTunes' own rookie dj contests must mean something, right? They can't not take me!"
Wow.
You've only known Yoongi for a solid three minutes, but you can already tell that he's quite passionate about this.
"Hyung, all we're saying is that maybe you should consider doing something else? You could do so much more than run after that store." Jimin says and pats Yoongi's hand a couple of times.
"All of you perfectly know getting a job there could quite possibly set my music career!"
"Is that really it? Or is it because of a certain Daphne??" Seokjin teases him.
The rest just mutters an "ooh" or an "aah".
You seem to have been turned into an accessory.
You so cannot relate to anything they've talked about since Yoongi came.
It's like you're at one of your dad's social gatherings and all you can do is smile and nod.
"ANYWAY," Yoongi interjects in their teasing. "So Tae, you're also looking for a job?"
Jeez FINALLY.
Something you can talk about that involves you.
It felt like you were just back home watching some random show that doesn't require your input.
Taehyung gives an overly dramatic heavy sigh.
"Unfortunately, yes. Y/n and I both need one badly. But all the stores had been rejecting us left and right. Like, the audacity!" Taehyung rants all over again.
Jimin, listens to him intently as if he hasn't heard all of this before.
Seokjin seems to have been entertaining the surrounding ladies for a while now.
[by giving some ( ˘ ³˘)♥︎ and some (•̀ᴗ-)☞ ]
Across the table, Namjoon complains to Hoseok about getting in trouble with his boss.
Jungkook, well, he's just staring at the beautiful pizza this kid next to you guys is eating. (Someone's hungry too, okay?)
While Yoongi just openly stares at you.
Welp.
What the frick are you supposed to do now?
Is Taehyung or anyone going to properly introduce you two?
No???
Okay fine.
Seems like you're gonna have to get used to doing things on your own.
You smile at him and timidly hold your hand out.
"Uh hi. I'm Y/n. I don't know if Tae's ever mentioned me to you before but--"
"Oh, trust me. He's mentioned you plenty. He actually never shuts up about you."
ʰᵉʰ
Ok
You don't really know if he was stating that as a fact or if he's trying to be mean…
"Oh ha ha… That must be really annoying then."
"Yeah, it is actually."
Your small polite chuckle died down your throat.
Wow and you thought Taehyung can be rude.
hE'S STILL JUST STARING.
"Uh…" You finally lowered your hand that he obviously isn't going to shake.
That is definitely going in your top 10 most embarrassing moments ever.
God, can someone get you away from this guy?
What's his problem?
"SO, can any one of you help us? Like, any tips or something?" Tae concludes his really long and repetitive rant.
Everyone's eyes FINALLY focuses on Tae again.
Seokjin snorts loudly.
Eww.
He opens his mouth to say something but Tae immediately holds his hand up to stop him.
"Anyone except you hyung. I don't think you're classified."
Everyone laughs to that and again,
ARE YOU MISSING OUT ON SOMETHING HERE?
Seokjin raises one finger like he's trying to make a point. "If anyone is classified to give tips on how to get accepted, it's me!"
"Yeah, just not on how to last on one." Namjoon loudly whispers to Tae.
"HEY I HEARD THAT!"
Ohhh….
So,
Does he constantly get fired from a job?
Well, that's just sad.
Hopefully you don't end up like him.
😳
"Actually," Hoseok starts, "how do you end up landing on so many jobs? Like, don't they know your reputation?"
And that's your cue to finally insert yourself in the conversation.
"Uh, what reputation?"
"Sweetheart, you don't really want to know! It's not that big of a deal." Seokjin quickly steers you away from the topic but the other guys didn't allow it to happen.
"Oh, you know. Just that, he's known to be the "job eater" here. Cause he pretty much eats a job and moves on from it in a flash." Namjoon graciously fills you in.
So you were right.
That's kind of impressive though…
But a huge waste.
"Still! It makes me very much qualified to give the unemployed a tip!"
"Save it hyung, you might need it for your next job once you get fired from Uncle Aang's."
Seokjin gives everyone a sheepish smile.
What's that about?
It almost looks as if he…
"YOU GOT FIRED ALREADY?!"
"Oh you bet I did."
To be fair, how could he not stop himself from eating the free samples? Those pretzels are literal drugs.
"You just got that job four days ago. I can't believe it!"
"I can believe it." Yoongi says out loud.
Can't he say anything nice?
"Whatever! Point is, these stores still hire me no matter what."
"You know what, that is a good point." Taehyung mutters, slowly turning convinced by Seokjin.
Namjoon groans. "Are you for real Tae? If you want some job advice, maybe ask one from us who has only had one permanent job all throughout."
"Guys, let's give Seokjin hyung a chance!" Jimin, ever the sweet positive boy, suggests.
"Of course you would say that."
Not wanting to fade into nothingness, you insert yourself again in the conversation.
"I want to hear what he has to say."
Once those words left your mouth, you instantly regret it.
A.) Seokjin gives you another wink and gives you a flying kiss that has you weak in the knees again- I MEAN WHAT. I SAID NOTHING.
And B.) Yoongi is clearly not a fan of you sharing your opinions with the group.
Despite the obvious protests of Namjoon, Seokjin still gives his number one "professional" advice
And that is to have a perfectly 𝒉𝒊𝒈𝒉 𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 résumé.
"A high quality résumé? YOU? What the fuck are you talking about?" Yoongi says, slightly amused and slightly tired of the older guy's shenanigans.
"Don't believe me? Fine. But I'm telling you, it's all here on paper!" Seokjin takes out a folder from his backpack and waves it around.
Namjoon immediately snatches it from him
"5 pages long?? Are you for real?”
Seokjin hums and watches smugly with a cocky grin as the guys read through his résumé.
“Hang on, since when did you do balloon modelling?”
"I don't."
Hoseok gasps. "But bro, isn't that lying?"
"Yeah, duh! How else are these people gonna hire you? You have to sell them what they're looking for."
"What if they ask you to use these skills that you clearly don't have?"
"Then you're just gonna have to fake it till you make it, baby!"
Huh
No wonder he doesn't last long on a single job.
"And how's that working out for you?" Yoongi presses on.
"Well at least I get hired, Mr. 7th Time's the Charm!"
Yoongi is like ᶠⁱᵗᵉ ᵐᵉ ⁱ ʷᵒⁿ'ᵗ ʰᵉˢⁱᵗᵃᵗᵉ ᵇⁱᵗᶜʰ (ง'̀-'́)ง
"That's not really the point of having a job, but I guess, whatever floats your boat, dude!" Hoseok finally sides with Seokjin.
"So everyone is looking for a job then?" Taehyung realizes, "this is so cool if all of us get hired! We'll all face the real world together."
"All of us except Jungkook though."
Who?
Oh that extra cute shy boy.
You forgot he's here.
Boy really hasn't said a word at all.
"Did ya hear that? All of us are getting jobs!"
"You should get one too!"
"That would be so cool!"
"So what do you say? What are your plans Kook?"
"Guys, don't pressure the kid!"
The guys talk simultaneously, ultimately kind of pressuring Jungkook to say something before he even thinks about it.
The table falls silent and everyone eyes Jungkook.
The guys are like ( ・ิ ͜ʖ ・ิ) and ( ͠° ͟ʖ ͡°)
Jungkook is like (ʘ ͟ʖ ʘ)
Then the guys are like (≖ ͜ʖ≖)
So jungkook is like (¬‿¬ )
In the end, they are all like
(☞°ヮ°)☞ ☜(°ヮ°☜)
And through it all, you are just ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ
What the heck is going on?
"Yeah, why not?" Jungkook simply concludes and the guys make various celebrating noises.
Gasp!
He can talk???
"Okay, everyone calm down! Let's wait until after everyone gets hired before we celebrate." Namjoon scolds everyone.
"Well that might take a while considering Y/n and I can't find one!"
Namjoon places a comforting hand on Tae's shoulder. "Oh relax, there's like ten thousand stores in the mall!"
"Actually, there are only 613 stores in the entire mall." Hoseok points out a matter of factly.
You all look at him dumbfoundedly.
Aaaand he just stares back at all of you.
Is this some kind of trivia that you need to know if you work around here?
Are you gonna have to memorise a lot of facts about the mall???
Oh, you don't like that.
Seokjin was the first one to react.
"Dude?? What the hell?!"
"I got bored once while I was on a break and counted."
Huh.
Makes sense.
Yeah, sure.
Why not?
Why wouldn't you just go and count the total number of stores out of boredom???
…
THAT WAS A SARCASTIC REMARK IF YOU DIDN'T GET IT.
"Even if there are 600 stores here, there are only like, 20 good stores that exist!" Tae remarks
You want to say you can't agree more but you stop yourself because you don't think you can handle another cold stare from Yoongi.
"Are you perhaps pertaining to the high end stores?" Namjoon muses.
"Yeah. What else?"
Jimin's eyes widen in shock. "Hold on. So you two have only been looking at that small section of the entire mall?"
"Yeah. Why?"
Yoongi chuckles condescendingly.
"Bros, you know that saying… 'Beggars can't be choosers'?" Hoseok tries to enlighten you two.
You and Tae look at each other.
What an epiphany.
A very disgusting yet important epiphany.
"Are you… Are you guys saying that… We need to find a job… Outside of that section??"
They all nod.
Ughhhhhhh
You and Tae make an annoyed sound.
"Welcome to the real world, peasants!" Seokjin warmly tells you.
Could things get any worse?
"Hey, at least we'll all be here together!"
Ha ha
Great . Awesome. Wow.
"Well, on that note, I really need to get back to work. Lady and gentlemen, may the odds be ever in your favour. Good luck!"
Namjoon stands and walks away.
One by one, the other working guys went back to work as well, leaving you unemployed slackers.
Hey they didn't even give any actual help!
Wasn't that the reason why Tae called for a… What did they call it?
Code something something.
Oh whatever!
Anyways,
So to summarize things
You might end up working at an awful low end store.
And you're unwillingly stuck with the wrong set of people.
One of them is a total flirt and an actual pain to society.
Another one might possibly hate you for unknown reasons.
This tall dude seems to be really uptight.
Then there's this guy that seems really weird.
The other one, well… He's cute and doesn't really have any negative points yet BUT you're sure something's wrong with him.
And the last one literally said one thing during the entire time!
Oh, you've got a really really long way before you can pay your dad.
Good luck to you, indeed.

Fanfic recommendations part three: Season 7 fix-its
Some of these stories are post season 7 finale, some of them take place during season 7 and diverge from canon. Season 8 who? We don’t know her.
I’ve read and enjoyed all of these stories, they are all worth the read.
(By the way this is a big category, so this post is huge)
All Our Yesterdays by ChronicallyChill
After the events of "Street Fighting Man", Jackie and Hyde wish more than anything that things had happened differently. The next morning, they wake up in the past, on the morning of Vanstock where Jackie promptly makes one dream come true. They are not together—but, soon enough, one change snowballs into another... Time Travel AU.
I didn’t knew if I should’ve placed this story on the season 7 fix-it category or in the AU category, in the end I chose this one, if you think it’s incorrect, please let me know so I can change it.
Okay so this story deserves a special comment because OH MY GOD, it’s incredible. It’s amazing how the author writes the characters so well, and I simply love the addition of Buddy Morgan to the gang.
This story is a WIP, it hasn’t been updated in a while but I still have faith.

Daddy’s Home by bellamarie
Jackie and Hyde’s relationship has been smooth sailing for the most part since their last break-up in ‘79. As Hyde begins to seriously commit to Jackie, her dad is released from prison and he returns home to supposedly rekindle his relationship with her. Hyde, suspecting that Jack’s intentions aren’t pure, enlists the help of his friends to try and expose Jack for the still crook man that he is. While Hyde may be a paranoid burnout, he knows that the wily politician is up to no good. There is one thing, however, both men have a common interest in: Jackie Burkhart.
Okay so this story basically ignores the existence of season 8, that’s why it’s in this category.
Oh, and I’m pretty sure this is an abandoned story. Unfortunaly. It only has two chapters and damn, I’m dreaming about the day the author will update this, I’m already hooked.

Hyde’s Long Way Home by MistyMountainHop
This story is perfect. It literally has no defects. I love ALL of MIstyMountainHop’s stories, literally, all of them, but this one has a very special place in my heart. It’s complete and it’s definitely worth the read.
Hyde goes on a self-destructive bender after finding Jackie with a towel-wrapped Kelso. The day after that, he wakes up ... and it's the same day as before. He's doomed to live the same day over and over — unless he can figure out a way to live it right.

Reflections Through the Glass by MistyMountainHop
Okay, this story is quite a trip, and it’s amazing. It’s based on a minisseries called The 10th Kingdom.
Six months after Chicago, Hyde no longer believes in love — or in Jackie. Donna's not speaking to Eric. Kelso's confused about his whole life, and Fez has gone missing. The only way back may be to leave it all behind.
This story is complete, and there’s a sequel, called Beneath a Shattered Sky. Honestly, I love the first story, but the sequel... The sequel is probably one of the best stories I’ve ever read. Those are both very long stories, but they are worth it.

Season 8 redo by tanith75
This is the most famous story of the fandom for a reason.
The story starts after the s7ep21 episode, so there’s no Chicago problems or people going to Africa over here :) It’s amazingly written, it’s funny as hell, and it honestly feels like I’m watching an episode of the show when I’m reading it. It’s amazing, it’s what should’ve happened in the show.
This story is not complete, but please, don’t let this stop you from reading it.

This story ignores season 8 completely and season 7 is canon, that’s why it’s in this category.
Hyde finds himself homeless on a night where Jackie is without parents. The gift he gave her last Christmas draws him to her, but his attachment lingers past that rainy first night, grows through countless experiences, and leads him across state lines. Their relationship is a high-stakes gamble, but Jackie may fold before Hyde can show all his cards.

This is mainly a season 7 hidden moments story until it diverges from canon, and it’s lovely. I wish it was complete, but it’s still worth the read.

Zenmasters: Seasons 3-5 by zdbztumble
I was having a lot of trouble categorizing this story, in the end, I decided that it was a season 7 fix-it of sorts, since season 8 doesn’t exist and season 7 ends in a satisfying way.
This story is a rewrite of some episodes, the author foreshadowed J/H relationship during seasons 3 and 4, and she added some pretty nice J/H moments in some chapters. The author also changed some things in some episodes (like the way J/H get back together after the nurse, and some other things). It’s a pretty good story, I like it a lot.
After "Jackie Bags Hyde," a certain subplot went into hibernation for a season and a half. What if it hadn't? And, if it hadn't, what other surprises would pop up along the way? "Tune in" to find out!

I’ll repeat this at the end of every single post: speaking as someone who writes, it would be really cool if you guys decide to leave a review (or a comment, if the story is on AO3) in the stories you read, especially the unfinished ones. It really motivates the authors, and receiving a compliment is always a mood lifter. I’ve seen some authors updating stories after years because of nice reviews, so… yeah, this is just an idea.
If you think I left out a good story, feel free to reply to this post!

⭐ for The Keep Going Song? Thanks! :)
(anh i would die for you)
Thank you for asking! I am going to be talking about the whole thing because it's fun, and because there's not really many ~secrets~ within the text to ramble about, just little fun snippets!
I'll do it under a cut because I will definitely ramble. Woohoo!
I came across The Keep Going Song (the song) after my Lookout 3 Companion Playlist (& my spotify discovery) introduced me to the Bengsons. The effect was almost instantaneous - it's the kind of warmth I try to encompass in everything I do, and for the next few days I had it on repeat as I worked. This was around the time I was finishing my Lookout script, and I had been toying with the idea of writing a Cornleyverse fic after absolutely devouring all 10 fics in the tag. What I knew was that I wanted it to be sweet, I wanted it to pull them all together, and I wanted it to be a progression. Despite only having seen the Goes Wrong Show, jumping into the fandom made me want to dimensionalize these characters and give them a story beyond everything that had already occured.
I also watched Christmas Carol before / during the writing process, but to date I have not watched Peter Pan or the full-length TPTGW. My prior knowledge comes from Wikipedia, the delightul amateur TPTGW production on YouTube, a friend's excellent transcription of the Haversham Manor script, and tumblr meta analysis. I think I did a reasonable enough job pretending I knew what I was doing.
Let's get going!
I knew off the top that it was going to be vignettes - they would give me room to spread the story over the long period of time it takes for a group of people to grow into something resembling a family. Like I said in the original author's note, there was supposed to be more of the early, snippy days - but I got so focused on making them kinder that I found I couldn't properly write a fight. In hindsight, it probably would have been easier if I tried writing that first, but, well. Once I realized that it was too late. The alphabet idea came later, once I had them all finished: I wanted to organize them somehow, but numbers felt too open, too infinite - closing the story on an organizational endpoint was just really satisfying.
a - Every good story needs a good beginning.
c - Starting with the end of Peter Pan is my sneaky way of slipping past the fact that I haven't seen the earlier shows! The Max and Sandra storyline is just so sweet, and I wanted to let it exist a little bit in between our jump from Peter Pan to Christmas Carol. This vignette came so easily when I wrote it and I love love love the feelings and the tentativity about the whole thing.
f - This was actually the last vignette I wrote. I realized I needed some front-end padding because otherwise my angst plot came rather abruptly, and what better way? At this point, too, I was trying to bring in POVs from each one of our characters, and when deciding on Trevor's POV I thought the exasperation-excitement combination would be an excellent choice. It turns out Trevor is my favourite to write, mostly because I can find his voice a lot easier than some of the others - and probably also because I hold a lot of fondness and nostalgia for stage crew work. Also, I wrote most of this one on a long evening walk in the notes app on my phone. Fun fact.
h - I did my original idea slam in a draft tumblr post, and this one just says "birthday party but one without all the drama of christmas carol". And what do you know, that's exactly what it is! I definitely took the birthday party (in CCGW as well as in this fic) as a kind of proof that they really do like each other, if they're doing things like this and if they want to do things like this - and that theme of okay, they want to be here formed the basis for this part. I think it's exceptionally sweet that Dennis came looking for friends and ended up finding, well, something. And I popped in a little MMNI reference with "one of the Janines" - Backwards Janine? Frontwards Janine? Original Janine? Who knows! It's one of them!
l - The thing about this plot is that it's actually one of the first ideas I had when dreaming up this fic, and I couldn't quite let it go. The point was, what if I somehow split them up? How can they get on when half the society is out of commission? And the most reasonable way I could find to actually get half of them out of commission was the car accident. To be honest, this one is mostly filler - it's also the second vignette I wrote, and it found its birth in the email drafts of my work laptop.
m - Trying to map out this little plotline without overdoing it might have been the most difficult part of this fic, and I'm still not 100% sure I succeeded. This is our explanation for the unease from the vignette above, and it took me 3 rewrites before I finally found something that settled in my brain. "Dennis gets chased by a goose" might be one of my favourite lines in the fic though.
Also, putting these letters right next to each other made me feel really clever for no reason.
n - My Jonathan perspective also took a few stutter-steps in its beginning, but this one ultimately came from the promo video's reveal that Robert and Dennis live together, and me playing with the continual idea of the remaining cast members being rather unmoored in their injured castmates' absence. Robert in particular because I love his character and I love making him Feel Things(TM) (fun hint: this will also be a small theme in the new cpds fic I have in the works!) and I want to see so much from this odd relationship between him and Dennis. Obviously they have to tolerate each other if they are willingly roommates - how far can I go with that? I love how this one turned out.
o - All I have to say about this one is that I still really love the sweetness between these two, and they deserve the world. Also, at some point during writing this I was really caught up with how striking Dave's face silhouette is (don't ask) so that ended up making it in somehow.
q - Girls' Night is SO important to me. After all the work they've done to make these gals friends I needed to capture it, and a pleasant night in just made a lot of sense. This one is the home of a few of my headcanons - Annie has a chef roommate and Max does a lot of the cooking, thus the "neither of us are the usual household cooks" comments, and I also think they're at the point where they can joke about their previous failures (especially with these three together) so the nod to A Trial To Watch (my favourite gws episode) was so fun. Also, Waking Ned really is a silly pick-me-up of a movie - would recommend. Special thanks to CBC for giving us Canadians quality British TV alongside our occasionally questionable homegrown programming.
r - It wouldn't be a fic about progress and growth with this crew without a disheartening moment turned into gold. I wrote this one while barbecuing, another fun fact, and no joke the hardest part was figuring out what to name the play they were doing. I kept pace with the whole "Jonathan can't get onscreen" gag, which was personally hilarious and made me cackle as I wrote it, and the rest of it just felt good. I will always have a soft spot for comfort and reassurance in a story and getting to write it has just been an absolute delight.
t - This was one of my other unplanned vignettes. It was originally to fill out Robert's POV, but also to express a bit of how things have changed in Chris's attitude towards his cast - if there's one thing I would change from Mischief's characerisation thus far, it's this brand of almost-kindness that I consistently need to write him with. It takes the aftermath of the car accident and uses it to kind of make him understand - this is a valuable group of people and I don't want to lose it. But of course he's not the type of person to actually express that in any way, so I thought the frenetic hovering was a good way to get the point across. As well, the kind-of-bonding between Chris and Robert - the two of them are such powerhouses of insistent personality that conflict so easily but they've also got a more secret kind of friendship that deserves to be explored a little more. I really like this vignette and how it ended up portraying how they are around each other, how they really do know each other, especially when they're not fighting. Makes me soft.
w - This is the first vignette I wrote! I honestly didn't realize until writing this just how much I identify with Annie - best of both worlds re. crew and cast, a bit of tenacity regarding getting through things, overall personality - I just love her so so much. She also seems like the most sensible of the cast, so the collective "why are we really here?" moment with Trevor really spoke to me. I love their friendship, I love the kind of quiet vibe this vignette gives off - this is one of the ones I can feel most strongly, the one I can step into and exist inside. I also spent most of my old drama rehearsals and classes without shoes, so that had to make it in just by virtue of the sock brigade (me).
z - One thing I knew for sure since the inception of the fic was that it needed to end on a victory. I took the images I had of this victorious adrenaline, everyone together having a good time, kind of getting smashed, and karaoke (I really wanted the karaoke, for some reason) and went the obvious route: the wedding. Ending on Chris POV also felt so right - possibly because he's the one with the most growth in this fic - and getting to finally feel this triumph with him after all these other trials and tribulations was an absolute joy. The wedding hall, in my head, looks like the one my cousin used (it was at a zoo... my sister and I went on a night walk and heard a lot of screaming peacocks) and I definitely threw all my wistfulness, all my love for the characters I'd developed, and all my love for this fantastic fandom into this part. The incorrect lyrics that Annie sings are exactly what I think every time I hear that song, because I've never looked up the lyrics before and my brain likes to play Mad Libs with my super-questionable auditory processing. And the image of the ballroom staff getting really exasperated with them and shutting all the lights off came to me at night and is hastily scribbled on a sticky note (it's a wonder it's legible) but I still strongly believe that it's the perfect, perfect way to end. I still get the warm feelings when I reread this part, even now, after so many reads.
And, finally - our end quote is exactly what started this whole thing. What is this drama society if not a rough beginning? But the concept that we'll make it through, that we can just take a step and then another and it'll be okay because we're together... it's hard to describe just how much it means to me, to my place in the world, to the world itself. I think one of my rather consistent aims in writing, no matter what it is, is to be able to have this collective - characters that become family, people that are important to each other, this constellation to lean on - because it's all I can say for the human experience. It's probably quite a bit of wishful thinking (as I said to another friend, "I am apparently letting loose on all my repressed social feelings of the past year and shoving them into fics") and a sort of subconscious confirmation that if I write it, I can be it. So this force of understanding and kindness and ultimately good people helping each other through the world is something I can't help but include, something that means the absolute world to me.
I'm so glad to have been able to share this fic with everyone, and extra glad that it's been able to touch some people along the way. I've found such an incredible community in Mischief and coincidentally I think The Keep Going Song represents that warmth, too - the community I've been so lucky to exist inside, how we're helping each other along, step by step. What a beautiful thing to be a part of! Thank you for reading and allowing me to give you a bit of my heart. 💖💖

can you please expand your thoughts on how aai1 handled turnabout ablaze? I noticed your (rightfully) low ranking of Alba earlier so I’m kinda curious about your opinion ^_^
Okay, before I go into this, I want to say: I love this game. I love all the AA games. Even the ones I have the most complaints about (this and DD) are wonderfully fantastic games with a fun cast and intriguing murder mysteries. You should play the ones you haven’t played yet, even the ones you’ve heard negative stuff about.
That being said, Turnabout Ablaze I think is sort of emblematic of every single problem I do have with AAI.
Ace Attorney Investigations is a little bit of a mess. At its best, it’s a fun murder mystery game with a stellar cast. It introduces Kay Faraday and Shi-Long Lang, it gives us more time playing as Miles Edgeworth, always a treat, and more time with my man Gumshoe. The mystery solving is fun and it offers a new kind of gameplay than the usual point and click style for investigations.
However, it also has a lot of weird pacing problems. Your new assistant and rival don’t show up until case 3 of 5. And Lang isn’t even in case 4, so he’s barely even a presence in his debut game, even though he’s a wildly interesting and fun character. All of his development is shoved into Turnabout Ablaze, and even though it’s welcome development, I kind of wish it was spread out more.
But going more into Turnabout Ablaze: It is long, arduous slog occasionally interrupted by some fantastic moments only to be dragged back down into the deepest recesses of hell. Its midpoint feels like a climax and everything past that point slowly and sadly peters away into a sad mess of one man slowly walking away from you to get on a plane.
To start with, this case in particular has so many different people being accused of murder. Kay, then Larry, then Shih-na, then Franziska, then Alba. AAI has this issue in almost all these cases, but it never feels as pronounced as it does in this one, this meandering, confusing mess of a case. It feels like we’re never really making progress, we’re just running in circles and occasionally hitting a brick wall while we get derailed from some bullshit or another.
I feel like the setup of AAI makes accusing people you care about far less impactful than it did in any of the other games, since that blame can be passed around so quickly and easily. Every single case has at least one moment where a recurring character gets accused, and it feels almost artificial? Like of course we’re going to have to care about Gumshoe and Maggey and Kay and Franziska and maybe not Larry but that’s a personal choice of mine. Yet most of those accusations never really last long enough to have anything meaningful happen plot or character wise, save for maybe Gumshoe in the flashback case? But there’s no tension to that one since we know Gumshoe ends up fine. The rest of the time it’s just an excuse to keep dragging Miles through a constantly meandering plot.
Also, there’re these weird distractions all over the place that lead nowhere. Having to deal with Larry and Oldbag for a few minutes hours even though it has nothing to do with the case at hand is annoying. If we got rid of that second murder, would anything have changed other than a few hours of gameplay? You just have to rewrite a few parts and boom, two hours of my life saved. Or the statue section, did we need to have that statue section? These would be well and good if they were fun to solve, or character building, but they weren’t. They were just there to add time to an already bloated final case.
Adding to that, I was not a huge fan of the Smugglers plot that they were pushing to be the overarching narrative. I feel like it was meant to be this big, intimidating force, but it ended up being so boring and impersonal. And boring. And did I mention boring?
You know what was interesting? Calisto Yew, betraying her friends. Calisto Yew murdering Byrne Faraday, and then Kay’s investment in hunting her down. Then you get to the big climactic showdown with Shih-na, and it’s amazing! It’s satisfying! We’ve been developing this Big Bad for three cases and watching her finally break down, getting to that reveal of who she was, the shootout, all of it was fantastic and wait, what was that? Shih-na didn’t do the murders for this case? She was just a cog in the machine? There’s more game? Oh. Uh. Right. Okay. Whoo.
Also Quercus Alba, uh, sucks? He sucks. He sucks so much. He’s boring and smug, but also he’s this nothing character. He sweeps in at the eleventh hour to be the final hurdle, but he had no buildup other than walking around in the background as this doddering old man we didn’t care about. It wasn’t even in a “Ooo he was always there the whole time” way that Shih-na had, it was just this boring old man doing boring old man things.
And then they have the audacity to make the final confrontation with him last for HOURS longer than it needed to. And every single time it feels like we’ve progressed, not only have we made no progress, but we are actively slamming ourselves into the same brick wall over, and over, and over again.
“Oh, you see, Miles Edgeworth, I have ✨Diplomatic Immunity✨!”
“Ah, well, how about this proof! Proof that you are involved with the smuggling ring! What do you think about that?”
“Well, what do you think about this ✨✨Diplomatic Immunity✨✨ that I still have. Oh well time to go on a plane—”
“Wait! Wait Quercus Alba, what about this new proof! This proof that you could have done the crime!”
“Wowie, my ✨✨✨Diplomatic Immunity✨✨✨ certainly thinks you’re making an interesting point.”
And then Lang shows up to get rid of his ✨✨✨✨Diplomatic Immunity✨✨✨✨ after we’ve been in the same fucking time loop for what feels like twenty years of my life and then suddenly we have to prove without a shadow of a doubt that Alba did the murder?? Why???? That’s not how it works?????? Can someone fucking ARREST THIS MAN???? GUESS WHAT GUYS YOU DON’T NEED TO PROVE HE DID IT YET, YOU HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH TO ARREST HIM YOU’RE NOT IN COURT?????????? END IT!!!! PLEASE!!!!! JUST END IT!!!! FUCK!!!!!!!!
I don’t care about the Smuggling Ring! It’s this weird nebulous idea that has no real bearing on any of the main characters other than Lang. And also like “Oh no, my country’s economy is in shambles” that’s so????nothing???? Again, if we could have anything tying us to the importance of improving Zheng-Fa’s economy maybe that would be different. Human beings as a species don’t really connect that well to a macro level if there’s nothing to make it feel personal, you know? We know nothing about Zheng-Fa and have no connection to Zheng-Fa, and we don’t have any way to conceptualize Lang’s struggle in a way that holds any meaning. Sure it’s important, but it’s not dire to us, and that makes for a shitty confrontation!!!
Let’s look back at the other final cases in this series. AA original: Miles is in danger. His smug mentor is not only trying to get him killed, but did the killings himself. AA2: Maya is kidnapped. It’s a struggle between your ideals of finding truth and justice and making sure your best friend isn’t killed. AA3: Maya is missing, and then later, suspected of murder. You’re confronting this big bad who's been a problem from case one and then also proving yourself to Godot.
They’re all personal stakes. They all matter to the main character, and the bad guy had a DIRECT hand in why. And yes, Alba ordered the killings, but again, it’s so impersonal, it’s like three steps removed so as rendered meaningless. Then you add on top that he’s got no motivation, other than greed and power I guess, he’s not fun, considering how many circles he makes us run in only to get to the same problem every single go around, he’s barely a character, he—!!! I hate him!!! I hate him and not in a fun way!!! Just end the case!!! Please Capcom!!!!
Again, the first half? When we were building to that confrontation with Shih-na? Great! Climactic. Fun. Interesting. But the rest? So deeply incredibly frustrating.
Sorry this was longer than I meant for it to. But I’m not too sorry. After all, I have ✨✨✨✨✨Diplomatic Immunity✨✨✨✨✨

Wayfinder’s Voyage
Oceanic (Chapter 1 | 2)
Word Count: 5785
I hope everyone enjoyed reading this! I'm honestly super anxious while I'm typing this because, not only is this my first fic in the KH fandom, this is also my first ship fic so I'm feeling a lot of pressure.
I want to apologize if the characters seem OOC in this, I was mainly going off of memory and a Wiki because I didn't want to sit through an entire LP of BBS just to get a few details accurate. It already took me a month and a half to write all of this and I didn't want to take up more time.
I do have more Terraqua fics in the works, as well as a couple other KH fics in general, but those will probably be posted way later. I just wanted to test the waters with this fic and see how I do so...
So some things to note:
*Both Aqua and Terra's first scenes in this fic were made entirely for the purpose of giving them build-up while not diminishing Ven's importance to them. I was already going to be fucking with canon a lot but I also didn't want to leave Ven to the wayside so I created those scenes. You'll see Terra's in the next chapter.
*I feel the need to apologize for the second half of the second scene because that still feels like word barf, even when I know why I wrote it like that. I hope the intention behind those words is still conveyed clearly but I'll understand if it's not.
*As for the last scene, I completely misremembered the sequence of events leading up to the end. I already knew that scene was going to be changed somewhat just for the context of the ship but I think it's pretty clear which parts I changed on purpose and which parts I was winging it. It's been years since I last watched that scene, it was super late into the night, this was my third rewrite, and I felt satisfied with my work before realizing I fucked up and decided to go along with it.

Today started out like any other normal day. Aqua woke up, did her morning regimen, and set off for the great hall to begin her studies. She and Terra, her friend/rival, were to train under the watchful eye of their master Eraqus in the hopes of coming one step closer to fulfilling their lifelong dream. They would one day surpass the rank of apprentice and become Keyblade Masters in their own right, something she wished would arrive sooner rather than later.
Then came time for their daily duel. They would often spar with each other as a way of proving their capabilities in battle, seeing what areas they could use improvement in, and showing off the techniques they had learned from past fights. This seemed to be no different from their previous clashes.
She was on the defense, blocking and deflecting each blow Terra threw her way with relative ease. He managed to find an opening she didn’t account for and all but jumped on the opportunity. He charged in, his Keyblade held high, and she only had a split second to raise hers in an attempt to guard against it. Yet, whether it was due to a miscalculation on his part or her just reacting too slow, he ended up hitting her unarmored wrist. She quickly backed away, letting out a cry of pain as both Keyblades were dismissed in a flash of light. Eraqus rushed over to check if she was okay.
Terra was beside her with remorseful apologies spilling out of his mouth but she barely paid them any heed. Her eyes were focused on something much more alarming, something she knew Eraqus saw too. Emanating from Terra’s hand was an aura of Darkness, which vanished as soon as he noticed it. He tried to defend himself to Eraqus but the damage was already done.
Their master had an almost zealous hatred for Darkness, believing it’d bring nothing but destruction in its wake, and sought to rid the Land of Departure of any, even if some laid dormant in his apprentices’ hearts. This was a constant problem for Terra, who always seemed to harbor enough to fall back on, be it consciously or not. For it to flare up during training, that drew Eraqus’s ire.
It was hard not to feel sorry for Terra as he was being harshly scolded. It wasn’t like he was trying to use Darkness, at least not intentionally. She knew that it was only an accident but it wouldn’t help stop the shame he undoubtedly felt. He’ll probably curse himself for being too weak and letting Darkness in yet again once he thought no one was around, an occurrence she’s been privy to more than she had any right to be. She needed to talk with him once she had her wrist taken care of.
With a hand on her back, Eraqus began leading her out of the great hall. She looked over her shoulder to catch one last glimpse of Terra before leaving. He hung his head in shame as he clenched his fists in what she believed to be anger. It was just as she expected. She turned her head back to face forward, hoping he wouldn’t blame himself more than he already was.
They made their way over to the infirmary, where Eraqus gently took hold of her wrist to examine it. She could see now how bruised and swollen it was from the impact as she winced with every slight movement. He was able to determine she had a sprained wrist, which she regarded as a miracle. With the amount of force Terra had in his swing, she was thankful it didn’t result in a break. She was to keep it wrapped and iced for a couple days till it healed, something she had no problem with.
After it was bandaged, she was told to take it easy until then. She asked Eraqus about Terra and he said he’d have a talk with him once enough time had passed for things to settle down. There was an undercurrent of regret in his voice, made even clearer by the expression on his face. Their master may be strict but he still cared for them, similar in the way a father would for his children. This gave her some hope in that he realized what happened was an accident and he’d forgive Terra. Time would only tell.
She spent the rest of the day in the library. She figured she’d get some studying done if she couldn’t practice with her Keyblade for the next few days. Try as she might, though, she could barely focus on the words she was reading and that was if she didn’t reread the sentence to understand it. Her mind kept wandering to Terra, whether he was okay or not, and what he was doing right now. Worry gnawed at her heart until she couldn’t take it anymore. The sun was beginning to cast orange and violet hues across the sky when she decided and rushed out to find him.
He wasn’t in the great hall or his room when she looked in. Searching all around the building yielded no results, either. She wondered where he could be, her anxiety growing as she saw night quickly approaching. He had to still be in the Land of Departure and the only place she hadn’t checked yet was the mountain. She ran out to the Forecourt and then beyond its boundary.
Stars were twinkling into existence by the time she reached the winding path leading up to the mountain. If it weren’t for the lights set alongside the dirt road, she would’ve been stumbling about blindly in the dark. It was when she arrived at the overlook just before the summit she found him.
His back faced her as she saw that he was sitting on the edge of the cliff. Taking a few steps closer revealed him to be looking down below the mountain with an indiscernible expression. It was troubling to see him like this. What happened earlier today had to be weighing heavily on his mind.
Tentatively walking forward, she called out, “Terra?”
He stiffened and quickly turned around to face her, asking a barrage of questions like, “Aqua, are you okay? How’s your wrist? Is it bad? It’s bad, isn’t it?”
“No, no, it’s all right, see?” she replied, showing him her bandaged wrist. “Master said it was only a sprain and that it should be okay in a couple days as long as I took it easy.”
He let out a sigh of relief, no doubt feeling some of the guilt be lifted off his shoulders. “That’s good. I don’t think I would’ve forgiven myself if I managed to break your wrist.”
“Well, you didn’t, so don’t beat yourself up over it, okay?”
Silence fell between them. She noticed him staring at her wrist with clouded eyes, despite her assurances of being fine. Before she could think of a way to broach the issue at hand, he spoke up.
“Aqua, I’m…I’m sorry about what happened earlier. I swear, I didn’t mean to hurt you, it was an accident, and---”
“I know, I know! You don’t need to apologize, I know you would never try and hurt me,” she interjected, trying to comfort him. “I’m more worried about you and how you’re doing after Master had those…words with you.”
He averted his eyes from her. It wasn’t the first time she’d seen Eraqus scold Terra like he had before and those always left him feeling horrible with himself. She was used to being the one to get him back to normal but something told her this wouldn’t be as easy as previous times.
Turning away from her, he said, “I deserved it. Master was right, I could’ve seriously hurt you.”
“But you didn’t and that’s what matters,” she replied.
“I was wielding Darkness, Aqua!” he exclaimed, taking her aback. He ran a hand through his hair before continuing on, “I thought it was gone. I thought I had it under control but I guess I don’t. Maybe it never left.”
“Terra…” She walked up to him and placed a hand on his shoulder. “It’ll be okay. You’ve gotten rid of Darkness before, you can do it again. You just have to---”
He brushed her off. “What if I don’t? What if I’ll always have Darkness inside me?”
“What are you saying?”
“Maybe I’m not meant to be a Keyblade Master. Maybe I’m just destined to fall into darkness. It’s my fate to lose my heart and become a Heartless.”
“That won’t happen, Terra. You’re strong enough to resist it and---”
“What if I’m not, Aqua? How else would you explain why I keep having Darkness come out of me? You can’t, can you?”
To her horror, he was right. There was no way she could explain why Darkness lingered inside him, even with the numerous attempts to rid himself of it. It wasn’t because he had a weak heart, that much she was certain. So what was the connection between the two? Was Terra right in that he was destined to fall into darkness, either by losing his heart or some other means?
The thought rocked her to the core. She didn’t want to believe his fate was to be lost in a hellish abyss until he was put out of his misery. He was her dear friend and he deserved so much more than being reduced to a lowly Heartless. She refused to accept it, which was why she decided to do something about it.
“You won’t fall into darkness, Terra,” she affirmed, stepping around him to meet his gaze. “I know it.”
“How? How can you be so sure?” he asked.
“Because I won’t let you.” She took hold of his hand in a gentle yet firm grip. “I promise I won’t let you fall into darkness.”
He seemed genuinely shocked by her words. She meant what she said and she planned on upholding her promise. It may be hard and it may even be treacherous at times but it’d all be worth it if he remained in the light.
“And, if you do fall, I promise to always guide you back home,” she added, giving his hand a squeeze.
“...You have that much faith in me, huh?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
“Why wouldn’t I?” She cupped his cheek. “You’re my friend, Terra, and I know you’re strong enough to resist its temptation. I’ll just be there to remind you every so often.”
He said nothing, instead deciding to pull her into a hug. She was surprised by this, seeing as how he wasn’t a very affectionate person, at least in the physical aspect. She was about ready to question him on why he was doing this when she heard him whisper in her ear:
“Thank you, Aqua, for believing in me.”
Her heart fluttered in her chest from the sincerity in his voice. She could sometimes be slow on the uptake but this had to be a new record. It was only now she realized just how much her vow must’ve touched him and how badly he must’ve been feeling before she showed up. She was glad to have cheered him up some. Thus, she returned the hug and answered,
“You’re welcome.”
Terra wasn’t going to fall into darkness, not if she had anything to say about it. He won’t be led astray. She’d be his anchor to the realm of light. A promise is a promise, which she wholly planned to keep.
Aqua breathed in deep and touched the tip of her paintbrush on the small piece of glass sitting in front of her. Drawing it upwards left the top half in a pretty shade of cyan blue. She continued to paint with delicate and meticulous strokes until she was satisfied with her work. The bottom half was then covered in a dark blue, which almost matched the ocean she imagined in her mind. Once the piece of glass was completely painted over, she gingerly picked it up and set it aside to dry. One down, four more to go before she moved on to the next phase.
She was in the process of making her Wayfinder. She already crafted two others that happened to be sitting off to the side, one in amber and one in green. She hoped to give them to Terra and Ven soon once she was done creating hers. Seeing as how she and Terra were meant to have their Mark of Mastery exam in the near future, they were meant to be good luck charms and Ven was getting one simply because it’d be unfair if he was left out. They also had another purpose to them, something she thought was rather poignant and was the main reason she wanted them.
Wayfinders were said to be designed after star-shaped fruit called Paopu, which were also said to tie friends together. If they carried these on them, nothing would drive them apart. They’d even help find one’s way back to them if they were ever lost. It may be silly of her to believe in this but it struck a chord within her when she first heard it and, in some ways, she wanted it to be true.
The question of what would happen after she and Terra aced their exam had weighed heavily on her mind for some time. Eraqus had told them they could either travel beyond the Land of Departure and expand their horizons or succeed him and protect their world from Darkness. They hadn’t decided yet but she wondered what the aftermath of her choice would be. Would she choose to leave or stay? Whatever it may be, it meant Terra would have to contend with the other. Maybe the reason this was troubling her so much was because a part of her deep down was afraid of losing the two people she considered to be her best friends.
She knew she had nothing to be scared of yet she worried all the same. It wasn’t like the bonds she shared with Ven and Terra were so weak, they’d break upon setting foot outside their home. Their strength would remain steadfast, even if the three of them were far apart from each other. She just needed to remind herself of that whenever she was lost in her thoughts.
The last glass piece was painted and she put it beside the others to dry. With that out of the way, the next thing to do would be setting the five glass pieces into place and soldering them to the frame so they wouldn’t fall out when she held the Wayfinder facing up. It was too late to do it tonight but she would get straight to it after her training tomorrow.
She glanced over to where the other two Wayfinders were sitting. She stood up from her desk, reached her hand out to grab them, and sat back down. They shone brilliantly under the golden light pouring in from her window. A lot’s happened over the last few years.
She never thought Eraqus would take in another apprentice but it was at the behest of an old friend so that’s how Ventus came into the picture. Fragile was the best word to describe him when they first met, like he could collapse at any moment. It fit him even more when he actually did from Terra’s bombardment of questions, falling into an almost come-like state for several days. Her skepticism as to whether he was capable of becoming a Keyblade Master only grew when Eraqus said he was amnesiac and that was why he fainted. How could someone like him become Master when he was so weak, for lack of a better term?
Yet he managed to prove her wrong. The more time he spent with the two of them, the stronger he got, to the point he was able to keep up with them in battle. He wasn’t as powerful as Terra or as magically gifted as her but he made up for it with swiftness and sheer tenacity. The only reason he wasn’t taking the Mark of Mastery exam along with them was because of his age, though she believed it was also due to him needing to outgrow some things, like his rebellious streak for example. He’d be a great Keyblade Master one day, she was sure of it.
Terra’s changed so much over the years. He was no longer a child struggling to keep his head above water as he flailed his Keyblade about. He’s grown into a strong and capable man she was proud to call her friend and rival. He’d be her fellow Master in due time as well and then they’d stand together to protect both theirs and many other worlds from Heartless someday. At least, that’s what she envisioned before things somehow became different between them.
She couldn’t quite explain what changed between her and Terra. It wasn’t like the way they interacted with each other was different from normal. They still met up every day to talk and train so that couldn’t be it. The only thing she noticed was…well, things she had never really noticed from him before. Not that they were never there but they were only starting to make themselves known to her.
Before Ven, she’d only seen three sides to Terra. The dutiful pupil to their master, the reliable confidant to her, and the introspective self-doubter when he thought he was alone. It was only after Ven entered their circle she saw the kind and protective side of him, almost like he was an older brother to him. She always knew those qualities existed within him but it was different seeing them in action to someone other than her. It’s only now she’s really acknowledged them.
He was still her friend but there was a deeper meaning now. Her feelings towards him were different than her feelings towards Ven and maybe that was because she’s known him practically all her life as opposed to the four years for Ven. Maybe all this was was her growing up and becoming an adult, which meant changing feelings and realizing that things were going to be different for her now, whether she liked it or not. Throw in the anxiety of potentially drifting away from him and she was left with a jumbled up mess of complications she struggled to put a label on.
All this was doing was giving her a headache. She should be focusing on the road ahead instead of thinking herself into a corner and letting her mind run wild. She’s so close to accomplishing her dream and she couldn’t risk anything jeopardizing it. Whatever answers she wanted, she’d find them after becoming Master.
She looked down at the Wayfinders still held in her hands and pressed them close to her chest. She let out a heavy sigh as she tried to calm herself. Different was new but it didn’t have to be bad. Change was a part of everyone’s lives and she and Terra were no exceptions.
Things may be different between them but it didn’t mean they were bad. It could mean they were good and she just couldnt see how yet. As long as they were together, nothing truly bad would happen. That’s what she hoped.
Aqua sat at the end of the dock, watching the sun set over the horizon. A warm, pleasant breeze was blowing through, carrying with it the strong scent of salt. She could hear the ocean’s waves rolling along the sandy shore and leaves from the trees behind her rustling. This was everything she imagined a beach to be like. The only things missing from it were Terra and Ven.
The Destiny Islands was what this world was called. She only stopped by with the intention of taking a short rest but it was after reality began to sink in she had to give herself something more than that. She needed a moment where she could think clearly, decompress, and just breathe. She needed this before going back out there and starting the whole process over again. That’s where she was now.
Where did it all go wrong? She finally managed to achieve her dream of becoming a Keyblade Master but it felt like a hollow victory when it turned out Terra failed the exam on account of his Darkness flaring up again. Then she was asked by their master to keep an eye on him in case he strayed too close to darkness, which she didn’t agree with but knew it was out of concern for him so she followed. It was through that she learned of the questionable acts seemingly committed by Terra and it caused her to doubt him and his resolve. When she met up with him and Ven at Radiant Garden and she revealed the truth of her being there, their trust in her was shattered.
Then she found out Ven was being hunted down by a masked boy, who had ties to Master Xehanort. He’d been pulling strings behind the scenes and he was dragging Terra along for the ride. An encounter with the masked boy in Neverland left her exhausted yet she still trudged on before arriving here. All she was trying to do was make things right so why did it turn out like this?
Maybe she wasn’t cut out to be a Master. They were supposed to keep the balance between light and dark, protect the worlds from malevolent forces. If she couldn’t even protect her best friends, the two people she treasured above all else, then what good was she? Eraqus was wrong in making her a Master, much less his successor. She never should have become one.
She took out her Wayfinder and just held it. The orange hue of the sunset washed away the once vibrant blue into something dull and dark. Her heart grew heavier the longer she looked at it, running her thumb over the token in the center. Nothing would drive them apart, huh?
It was never that she thought of Ven as weak or doubted his capabilities. It was never, ever that. She just wanted him to be safe, to be unharmed because she knew she couldn’t always be there to save him. There was a part of her that still viewed him as the fragile boy she first met who fell comatose from one too many questions. Sure, he’s grown much stronger since then, but she felt the need to protect him regardless. He was her dear friend and she wouldn’t know how to live with herself if he got hurt and she wasn’t there to help him. She’d rather have him hate her for being overbearing than risk losing him because she wasn’t cautious.
She wished she could express how sorry she was to Terra. She vouched for him to Eraqus, swearing he was strong enough to resist the dark temptations, yet hearsay was all it took for her to lose faith in him. Xehanort’s machinations framed him as someone he wasn’t and she fell for it so easily. It honestly pissed her off that he was manipulating and taking advantage of Terra and his trusting nature. While he wasn’t exactly innocent in this, it was clear as to who the real mastermind was. She wanted so badly to apologize to him, to tell him she should never have doubted him.
Her grip on the Wayfinder tightened as she felt her eyes beginning to burn. Did they have theirs still, she wondered. She wanted to believe they did but was it childishly naive of her to cling to that narrow hope?
She was a horrible friend to them. She caused one to lose faith in her and she may as well have betrayed the other. She may have pushed Ven too far away for him to come back and drove Terra further into the darkness. She wouldn’t fault them for wanting nothing to do with her anymore. She wouldn’t, either, if the roles were reversed. Were their bonds now severed?
No, they couldn’t be. The magic she placed on each of their Wayfinders was still active and she could still feel Terra and Ven’s hearts through hers. That had to be her silver lining in this. Even if the cord connecting the three of them together frayed till it was only a thread, that thread was unbreakable.
She needed to protect them. She couldn’t let Xehanort and that masked boy do whatever they wanted with them. They wouldn’t hesitate to save her if she were in the same position so she shouldn’t, either. They were precious to her, she’d do anything, even give her life, if it meant they’d be safe.
She stood up from the dock, Wayfinder still in her hand, and looked up at the now starry sky. She didn’t know where they were but she didn’t need to. Her heart was going to be her guiding key.
They needn’t worry much longer. She was going to find them and the three of them were going to stop whatever Xehanort had planned. Then they would share one more night under the stars, like they had all that time ago.
May they find a way to each other once more.
Aqua watched on in horror as the man in front of her stabbed his Keyblade into his chest. She wanted to cry out his name but she couldn’t find the strength within her to do so, having thoroughly exhausted herself from their fight earlier. His body went slack, his Keyblade vanishing into thin air, as a portal of swirling darkness opened beneath him. He fell back and, quickly realizing where it led to, she dove in after him.
She had to save him. It may not have been Terra, not completely, but his heart was still in his body, she just knew it. Why else would he have let her go when he was so close to finishing her off? She couldn’t leave him to wander in the Realm of Darkness for all eternity. Even if it meant bringing Xehanort back, she’d never forgive herself for doing that to him if he was still in there. She made him a promise and she was damn well going to keep it.
The first thing she noticed was how cold it was. It wasn’t freezing but it was still too chilly for her liking, evident from her shivering. She felt like she was stuck in an empty black void as she searched around for any sign of Terra. She was eventually able to find a dim light just a few meters below her, a light she recognized as his. Summoning her Keyblade, she changed its form to that of her Glider and raced towards the light, not once taking her eyes off it.
It didn’t take long to reach him. The light grew dimmer and dimmer the closer she got before dimming completely upon seeing him. He looked to be just sleeping, even when he was plummeting straight down to what she considered to be hell. She grabbed onto his arm and struggled to lift him onto her Glider, only managing to accomplish that feat by sheer force of will. Giving him a quick once-over revealed no visible wounds and he seemed to be breathing normally. Relieved that he was physically all right, she turned the Glider around and began heading back up.
She had him and he was going to be okay. They would be back in Radiant Garden soon and she was going to fix him. She and whoever else could help her were going to find a way to get Xehanort’s heart out of him. Then she and him would go home and wake Ven up, like she said they would. They’d be together again. Their master may be gone now but they’d have each other to lean on and support. The hope of them being reunited again was the only thing keeping her going at this point. After everything that’s happened, she needed this to come true. She almost wanted to pray to whatever power there be to grant her wish, to give her this.
Well, a deity or some other higher being there was heard her and sneered. Her heart dropped once she saw the portal they came in from starting to close. They were still so far away and it was shrinking with each passing second. It would be gone by the time they reached it, leaving them stuck in the Realm of Darkness with no way out. She looked over at Terra’s unconscious form and, knowing what had to be done, made her choice without any hesitation.
That was when it hit her. She finally found her answer and she wanted to scold herself for taking so long to realize it. She finally knew what Terra was to her and it was so easy, so simple to understand that there was really no excuse. He wasn’t just a friend to her, he was more than that, he deepened beyond that. It was only natural, in some ways, for her to have fallen for him.
She loved him. She loved everything about him, from his ability to want to see the good in people to his devotion to her and Ven. She can scarcely remember a life where he wasn’t a part of it nor did she want such a life. He was irreplaceable, someone she confided in, a man she could talk to about anything without fear of judgment. He was her rock, her dearly beloved. She loved him, which was why she was able to decide on her fate with little regret.
She was going to take his place. Her promise came out of a love different from what it was now but she planned to uphold it all the same. Her love for Terra was stronger than her hatred of the man possessing him and she couldn’t bear to leave him behind to die in a hellish wasteland. It only hurt to know she wouldn’t be there to help guide him back home, to her and Ven.
She disembarked from her Glider and went around to the side. Terra appeared to be holding onto the handles somewhat, which seemed to be the only reason he was staying on it instead of falling. She brushed the back of her hand against his cheek before resting it on his, giving it a gentle squeeze. She was going to miss him when she was gone but this was for the best.
“We’ll meet again someday.” She squeezed his hand again. “Even if so much time has passed, we’ll meet again.” She was giving both him and herself false hope. “I’ll always be with you, okay?” She didn’t believe she would find a way out. “Goodbye, Terra.”
Then she let go and began falling. She didn’t take her eyes off him once as she fell, even when it became too dark for her to see him clearly. She wanted him to be the last thing she saw if she were to possibly die in the next few moments. She only wished she could’ve amended things between her, Terra, and Ven before their grand battle in the Keyblade Graveyard but she was resigned to contend with this. She’d be okay with taking that regret to her grave.
Tears rolled down her cheeks but she smiled through them. She saved him from a fate of wandering the dark realm alone. She hoped Terra would win out in his fight against Xehanort and reclaim his body as the image of him finally disappeared from her sight. Maybe, just maybe, they’d meet again in the next life.
She closed her eyes as she let the darkness overtake her. It was then she heard herself say those three little words that carried with them so much meaning. Whether she said them aloud or she only imagined she did, it didn’t matter. All she wanted was for those words to reach Terra’s heart, to let him know why she did what she did. That was her last thought before succumbing to the cold.
“I love you.”

Tom M. Riddle x Slytherin!Reader
Warnings: Manipulation & character death.
Word count: 1.2k Oneshot
A/N: Thinking of rewriting this!
⋆。˚ ☁︎ ˚。⋆。┈┈☂︎┈┈┈☂︎┈┈⋆。˚ ☁︎ ˚。⋆
You were walking into the Slytherin common room and sat yourself down next to window that gives views of underwater of the Black lake. Thinking about events happening around you. Muggle-borns keep dying around you at Hogwarts. You never see it because you’re usually in the library or in a class. You only get to hear from other people. Tom never mentions it either.
He requested that you shouldn’t interact with fellow witches and wizards unless absolutely necessary. He never told tell you why, now you only really talked to people in your common house. Distancing yourself from other friends who aren’t. It felt off, something isn’t right. You couldn’t put your finger on it.
One of reasons of you guys meet was by reaching for the same restricted section book. You and Him have the same thirst for the Dark Arts. Yours is more of a casual thing but his was something else. His consumed his life but he acts like it doesn’t.
Before knowing him, you knew some of the horrible spells that you felt guilty for knowing from reading constantly in your spare time.
He would say “Knowing them won’t make a difference unless you use them.” And that made you feel better about it.
It made sense so you didn’t say anything and now you don’t. Plus, He was always one step of ahead of you in everything so who are you to question him.
Back to now, Your eyes followed reflections of light until your body was forced to spin around and your face landing into someone’s chest. Recognizing the smell of musk and vanilla belonging to Tom. His hand wrapped around your head, Kissing your forehead softly and smiled at you. You always found it odd that his smiles never reached his eyes. His eyes were deadpanned and just dead. Emotions were never present in them but you didn’t really mind.
“Tom?” Looking up at him, he slide his hand to your throat and caressed it in thought. He grabbed your hand and dragged you out of the common room. His robe bellowed as did yours, his footsteps echoing throughout the barely lit castle hallways.
“I need you to be a good girl and listen to me. Tonight, you’re gonna do some great for me.” He slowed down a bit as he spotted Abraxas Malfoy with a group of slytherins. He then stopped in-front of him.
He was startled at first and Tom gave him a nod. “You know what to do Malfoy.” Malfoy just nodded. “I want it done before I get there.” Malfoy went off as the group followed him.
“Tom?! What are we doing?” Trying to gain his attention as you stopped walking, tripping over self. He gripped your wrist tightly and it was going to bruise not that he cared. He hoisted you back up into his arms.
“You love me don’t you?” He stroked the side of your face. Putting a strand of hair back behind your ear. “If you love me, you’re gonna do this for me without fail. Every word I say, you’ll follow through with it.”
What’s wrong with him, never seeing him desperate. There’s a first for everything. “Of course I love you but what’s happening? What is abraxas going to do?”
“It’s not about what he’s going to do, it’s about a what you’re going to do on the first try.” As he started to pat your head like a pet. His eyes gleamed and he held your hand. “Let’s go.”
Deciding not responding was the best option at moment. All of this wasn’t making sense but you loved him nonetheless and followed him. It was close to lights out but him being head boy so who was gonna question him being out of bed. What seemed like a life time, you stopped in-front of a bathroom. Why here? You tried to find any reasons of stopping here and there were none that came to mind. Tom whispered alohomora with his wand and the door creaked open. Locked? But why. He brought you in and letting out a small gasp. On the floor laid a half beaten muggle born Myrtle. You stood still trying to piece together what’s happening. You look at Tom but he was fixed on her.
“Tom, When you mentioned how you disliked mudbloods is this what you meant because isn’t this a little extreme?” Grabbing onto his robes pulling yourself to him.
He glanced down toward you and smirked. A smirk that finally met his eyes. “This is your chance to impress me even further, my dear. Now, you only have one chance and it’s a spell that both you and I know. It’s a spell called Avada Kedavra. You may not know the wand movement so if you mess up the first time but I see you actually mean it, I’ll possibly grant you a second try. Second tries are hard to come by from you as you know it. You’ll do this is you love and want to the rest of your life with me.” He walked you over to her and helped you get your wand out. He held hand with your wand to practice said wand movement.
After a few times, he seemed satisfied and sat on the sink countertop with his arms crossed.
“I simply can’t, she’s my and your age. She’s just a little a girl.” Tears escaped your eyes while looking at him.
Clicking his tongue, “I thought you were better then this. I always granted your wish, whatever it was. Have you thought about my wishes? What I wanted? You haven’t, haven’t you? You’re a taker but what I need is a giver. Can’t you give me this one simple sign of loyalty? Please, I love you. I don’t want to lose you” Hugging you from behind and putting his face into your neck. You felt him shake a little and feeling his lips move.
You tried to reason in your mind that you didnt need him and you’ll walk away. Forget this ever happened. Forget him.
You couldn’t.... Already so attached to him. Thinking all those times you snuck into the library at midnight, the Yule ball, hogsmeade dates, and lastly was because you given him all of your firsts. First date, first kiss, first boyfriend, first time having sex, and first love. Could you truly forgot all of that? Could you lose it? You couldn’t start over. Your school life was coming to a close and you thought you spend the rest of your days with Tom. Get a flat together, get married, and possibly having his children. He had you wrapped around him. He was in every corner of your mind and him knowing it.
You steadied yourself and casted it. After the deed was done, you collapsed and tried to hold yourself together. You were a criminal. A victim too in a way. Love makes you do crazy things. This is one of those times.
He turned your face towards his to kissed you. He picked you up and started walking out with you in his arms. His lips whispering sweet words into your ears. You ate it up, lapped up every word like a starved puppy. Turning your head to glance into the bathroom, her glossed over eyes met yours as the door slammed shut and locked. It was a sight that you would never forget. A feeling you would never forget. You would probably do it again for him if those lips kept on moving.

x Secrets of The Lake: The Company of Misery and Pain
{ Chapter 15 }
Summary: Vladimir Masters’ family tree has always been tainted by secrets swept under the rug. From generation to generation there have been countless reasons the Masters’ family had seemed to keep private from the public. Even to this day, Vladimir was no exception. But what was one to do when a restless spirit from the settlement years finally breaks free from restraints and demands you answer for your ancestor’s crimes? Vladimir doesn’t know. However, Clockworks does.
Notes: We just having fun, rewriting some of the canon, new adventure new characters. I will apologize now for any grammar, spelling, weird sentence structuring in advance. My brain writes faster than my fingers and even when I go back through to reread it I still miss things. Sorry about that!
Word Count: 8640
P.s: Chapters will be taking longer to get out which means they will get longer to read as well
Breakfast was quiet, Dani as usual came from her room and sat at the table half asleep waiting for her father to finish cooking. Vlad stood at the stove flipping the last few pancakes and scrambling eggs. But that form of silence Vlad was used to. This new silence felt strange as if it hung over his shoulders that something was wrong. Vlad crunched his nose and thought of something else to distract him. He settled for what he remembered yesterday night, it had been bugging him just who Dani was on the phone with. He knew that if she had started dating she wouldn’t tell him. Danny would be her to go to person or even Jazz due to how much closer they were in age; also the fact neither of them were her parental figure. But being a very nosy person by human nature Vlad had to poke at his daughter to settle the cat inside him. With a slow forming wicked grin Vlad placed down the spatula and cleared his throat.
“Danielle?” Vlad called over his shoulder to wake the other and received a hum in response. “Who was that you were on the phone with last night? I couldn’t help hearing you through your door when I walked by.” Vlad tried to sound as normal as possible without giving it away he was snooping. Vlad heard the sound of the chair carting against the floor and Dani struggling to sit up straight.
“Oh that was just some friends, I meant to call them yesterday after the graduation but I didn’t have the chance.” Vlad could hear the pitch in her voice rise in nervousness. He turned his head slightly to look over his shoulder at the young phantom and he saw how red her face became. Clearly a lie. Vlad smirked and finished cooking and placing the food on plates before using his powers to move said plates towards the dining table. Once seated he motioned for her to dig in and Dani was hesitant as she made her plate. Once the young girl was face deep in her pancakes Vlad smiled and cleared his throat once more to gather her attention.
“Surely if you were starting to date you would tell me, right?” Vlad had no time to react as Dani’s eyes widened and she slightly choked on her food. She managed to clear her airways and hide her face in her hoodie. Vlad had to keep from showing how satisfied he was at knowing he was right. A point for Vlad.
“Why are you bringing this up?!” Dani couldn’t bring herself to uncover her face, she couldn’t look Vlad in the eyes right now. But even though the thick fabric of her hoodie she could tell he was looking right at her and smirking.
“Is it a boy?”
“No!” Dani snapped back hard and Vlad chuckled as he shook his head and took a bit from his pancakes. She didn’t mean for it to come off so harsh but she did hope he would leave her alone about it.
“Ah, so a lovely young lady, is it? Care to share her name?” Dani groaned and finally lowered her hoodie but refused to look her father in the eyes. She shook her head and Vlad understood, he wasn’t going to push her on it nor was he going to demand it from her. He was happy though. It was so cute to see Dani branching into that age of discovery and possibly finding interest in someone. Vlad didn’t care who but he did have limitations on certain things. “They are of your age, correct?” Dani only shook her head ‘yes’. “Do they know you are...” Dani shook her head ‘no’ and Vlad was satisfied.
If this relationship his daughter was about to embark on was serious then at the right time Dani would tell this young lady her secret. Hopefully, she would be just as helpful as Danny’s friends were when he was growing up. Vlad remembered when he was young and had developed a crush. Unknown to everyone who knew him now, Maddie was not his first love. That title went as far back as a middle school back home in Wisconsin to a boy named Thomas. Vlad had no idea that the feelings he had then were romantic until he was older but he could recall how gitty Thomas made him. There was never the time the other held his hand every time they rode the bus home from school until Vlad was the first to be dropped off.
“C-Can we drop this now?” Dani muttered and Vlad smiled gently and nodded. The young girl sighed and tried her best to get back into her food but she knew her father had one more thing to say. She could see it in his eyes as he stared at her.
“Don’t you think saying you love them is a bit early? Unless you’ve been seeing this young lady for a while and I’m just now hearing about it.” Vlad said teasingly as he watched his daughter groan and once again cover her face. He let out a lite chuckle then promised he wouldn’t speak on it anymore unless she wanted to. Dani rolled her eyes and told him she was finished and that she was in her room if he needed her. But before she could float away they both heard the sound of faint groaning in the distance. Vlad turned his head trying to find just where it was coming from but had no luck as it still sounded far away.
“What is that?” Dani floated over to the sliding doors and looked through the glass. Vlad quickly placed down his fork and strolled behind her to see but saw nothing in the garden. Then like cold water, it washed over him that Tayonna was in fact missing in action. The night before he had looked for her and couldn’t find her. He didn’t think anything of it since she would just show up if he had a dream. But that was it, he didn’t have any dream last night, everything was a blank canvas and Vlad had woken up refreshed and well. He had expected Tayonna to be there but she wasn’t. When the groaning became a bit louder Vlad stiffened and clenched his fist.
“Danielle stays right here, I’ll be back.” Vlad turned towards his daughter with hardened eyes and Dani nervously nodded. Vlad unlocked the door and slid it back and stepped out into his garden before closing it back. He followed the whimpering which led toward the statue. Vlad took note that the roses that were wrapped around the statue were not wilting and one by one dried and dead petals fell to the ground. Vlad stepped closer and tried to figure out why this was happening all of a sudden. Just yesterday the roses were alive and beautiful and danced in the gentle breeze of the summer air. Vlad gently touched one of the rose heads and it crumbled to ash at his fingertips. Vlad flinched back and frowned, they were very beautiful and it was a shame. The whimpering continued and it pulled Vlad away from the statue to the left that travelled to behind the house. As Vlad slowly followed the sound he noticed a trail of green buds poking out from the ground. They were unblossomed rosebuds that seemed to pulse through the low cut grasses. Vlad did his best to not step on them as he followed them towards the back of the house, they were his only sense of where to go.
As he travelled along the path he saw that the buds began to change into the next stage of growth. They were frozen stills of a flowering cycle and it was fascinating, to say the least. When he saw the first peek of a petal he saw that they were vibrant green and glowing through the leaves. When he made it to the back the whimpering was a lot more clear and the ground glowed a faint green. Even with the sun out, he could see the pulsating glow from the fully bloomed roses that now clustered together like bushes. Vlad wasn't sure what he would find in the bush and he steadied himself. He ignited his powers in his left hand and held it low. As much as he preferred to handle ghostly fights in private he was not above settling the score out in the open. He inched closer trying to get a peek of what was to come before fully dragging himself over. When he saw the form of a hand and dark skin he shook his powers away and rushed over to the bush. Tayonna laid on her back in the bush breathing heavily in a pant and a twisted look of pain on her face. She was groaning and shaking slightly as she held onto her right arm in a tight grip. Tayonna didn’t seem to notice Vlad standing over her and rolled to her side to curl into herself.
“What’s wrong with her?” Dani’s voice scared Vlad and he jumped to the side, clenching his chest. He took a deep breath then narrowed his eyes towards where Dani could have been. The girl became visible and rubbed her arm with an apologetic expression. “I told you to stay put,” his voice was stern and Dani knew better than to disobey him when there could be a danger. But she was curious and also worried that he might have needed help if something went wrong. After the events of last time, she really didn’t want to see him hurt. Vlad held up a finger before she could answer and shook his head. “We’ll discuss later, right now, stand behind me.” Vlad pulled Dani behind him but the girl moved to his side and looked over his arm. Vlad wasn’t going to touch Tayonna, not when these weird green glowing roses cradled around her. He had never seen anything like these. He wasn’t too sure if they were related to Blood Blossoms or not. God knows if he touched one it would do to him, but at the same time, he felt they were in a strange way safe. They were inviting with how they pulsated and seemed to wrap their stems around her. A thick stem was curled around her ankle and up the ends of her long skirt. Another was wrapped around her waist and another was wrapped around the arm she was holding.
They didn’t seem tight as Tayonna twisted and turned and the stems would give way so she could adjust. Vlad was curious to know what other powers the ghost had, he also wondered what effects they had on ghosts. He could remember how the Blood Blossoms weakened ghosts, there was always the misconception that they killed ghosts but that wasn’t the case. A ghost could easily get away from them if they weren’t stuck in an enclosure of them but if they were they would just be weakened. Vlad knew firsthand what it was like to be affected by them and he hoped he never dealt with that again. Vlad took a deep breath and held it as he reached out and touched the petals. A shock of energy ran through Vlad’s body and he felt his core thump against his chest. It wasn’t painful but rather energetic as if Vlad had just had a day's worth of sleep and energy drinks. It felt amazing but Vlad knew he had to pull away before he became too intoxicated by it. Vlad pulled his hand back and stared at it trying to figure out what just happened and why.
“Those aren’t Blood Blossoms?” Dani asked, pointing out towards the roses.
“No, they seem to do the very opposite of the blossoms. They give you energy instead of taking it away. Interesting.” Vlad's voice trailed away as he saw the tips of his fingers slightly glow then the surge of the glowing travel up his body. He looked back to Tayonna and gently touched her shoulder to pull her towards him to uncurl her. When Tayonna gave way she let out a deep sigh and Vlad could now see the damage along her right arm. From her knuckles to her shoulder her skin was cracked like glass and dark like a fire had been set against her skin. He could also see the faint debris of what looked like ash coming off of her and being sucked up by the roses. When Tayonna groaned again the roses grew brighter and she rolled back over to cover her arm. The roses must have been a healing factor of sorts and Tayonna needed to smother her arm into the petals for it to work. Vlad felt in his core he couldn’t leave her there, he had better ways to treat wounds and injuries in his lab, it was best to get her there and handle whatever this was. Vlad wasted no time in rolling her back over and getting his arms under her to lift her up and out of the flower bed. The stems of the roses gave way with ease from around her and shrivelled back into the ground. Tayonna gasped then curled against his body and Vlad felt a small shiver run up his back.
“Are you going to help her?” Dani asked, Vlad could hear in her voice the uncertainty, but he simply nodded and pulled the girl closer to him. There wasn’t a foreign feeling this time telling him to do it, this was genuine and Vlad wanted to help.
“If I leave her here there is no telling how long it will take her to recover. It’s best if we handle it my way, wouldn’t want someone walking past the house and seeing her just lying there.” Vlad quickly took note as he spun on his heels that Tayonna felt like nothing. Despite her size and height, he lifted her with ease as if she surely was nothing but ghost matter. This was a bit odd considering solid ghosts did of course have weight to them. It was in their basic genetics of keeping themselves together. Vlad knew he could feel her snuggling against him, probably taking comfort from his warmth, but there was nothing in his hands. Very interesting. Vlad told Dani to get the door and he walked into his house carefully so as to not shake up Tayonna anymore, and sunk through the floor to get to the basement.
“Danielle, get me a table, please.” Dani ran off to clear off one of the tables that had Vlad’s papers and books on it. It was just the right size to place someone on it and Vlad was grateful he always overcompensated with furniture. He placed the girl down and Tayonna began to shiver as the cold metal touched her skin. Vlad quickly placed his hand on the table to warm it and ease Tayonna from discomfort. Vlad watches as Tayonna's face falls from knotted brows to an almost gentle sleep.
“Now what?” Dani asked, floating over Vlad’s shoulder a few feet back. She wasn’t as shaken up by Tayonna but that didn’t mean she wanted to be near her.
“Now I help her, and possibly study the roses she slept in. Do me a favor dear and go get a handful of those roses and bring them down here.” Dani nodded and shot through the ceiling. Vlad walked over to a large metal cabinet and pulled it open to retrieve the supplies he needed. A couple of months ago Vlad had the idea to create a cream specifically for ghosts that would jump start their healer factor in case a wound took too long to heal on its own. It mostly made it for Danny after he got in a really bad fight that left a scar down the middle of his back that could easily be seen at the tip of his t-shirts. Vlad hadn’t used it on burns before but he was sure it would help all the same. He brought everything to another table beside Tayonna and set everything out in order. First, he would need to get a better look at what he was working with, which meant getting Tayonna to let go of her arm.
Vlad reached over and took the girl’s wrist and tried to pull it away but Tayonna gripped it tighter and tried to roll away. Vlad huffed and let go to pull her shoulders back down and settle her. Vlad put his hands on his hips trying to think of the best way to get the girl to corporate. Sure tying down one hand and forcing the other was a method he was more used to but he knew that would only end up in a disaster. Then a thought formed in his head, he knew it wasn’t his own but it seemed like it would actually work. ‘It better work’ Vlad thought then sighed as he loomed back over the girl and took hold of her wrist once more.
“Tayonna,” Vlad called out gently as if he was trying to wake her. “Please let go.” Vlad rubbed his thumb across her wrist trying to ease her grip and with a few more caressing rubs her fingers loosened and she let go. “Thank you.” Vlad brought her arm to her side then walked around to see the wounded one. It seemed to have gotten better but it was still an unpleasant sight. Her brown skin started to fade back into itself but the cracks and wrinkles seemed like they drove deep. Vlad ran a hand over the skin and felt how warm it felt compared to the rest of her. He then took her hand into his and looked at her fingers. They weren’t small and fragile, they were rough like workers and seen better days outside of the sun. Vlad could easily tell Tayonna was not the type to sit around and do simple tasks that held no weight. From the dreams, he could remember, Tayonna was always busy with harder labour that required rough hands and a strong grip. Vlad ran a thumb over her knuckles and sighed before pulling himself away to grab the creams and wraps.
Dani watched from where she floated as her father went to work helping the other. She had already picked a handful of roses and came back just as her father was asking Tayonna to let go of her arm. She could see that he was gentle and maybe a bit too caring as he held up her arm or moved her a bit. It was odd seeing him so gentle with strangers who held no virtue in his life. When she left, her father had made it clear he didn’t take Tayonna as any more than a nuisance from the ghost zone. But the look on his face told her that during her time away something must have happened that put them on some equal level. Dani had to squint a bit as she saw how soft her father’s eyes became as he rubbed the cream into Tayonna's arm. He had the same look in his eyes he only ever gave one person Dani could recall. Dani didn’t know what to actually make of this and could nearly double over and question everything as she tried to figure out just what had happened during her time away. She cringed a bit when a certain thought crossed her mind.
“That should do it,” Vlad said, cleaning off his hands with a rag and stepping away from the table. Vlad turned around and smiled at Dani, she held out the flowers and he thanked her as he took them and brought them over to his testing table. “She should be fine within a couple of hours. Though I’m not sure if that is an appropriate time frame considering her wound looks more like burns than scars. But nonetheless. Vlad pulled one of the roses out from the bunch and cut the stem off from the bud. The rose lost some of its glow when he did so and he quickly took note of that. From the cut rose he plucked one of the petals and dropped it into a test tray of ectoplasm he kept for testing purposes. When the petal came in contact with the substance the ectoplasm started to glow. He pulled the test tray under a microscope and examined it, and what he found was truly impressive. The molecules from the pedals were absorbing the ectoplasm then spitting it out in doubles before binding them like a net with another abnormally shaped molecule.
Vlad has seen this before in blood clots and how they formed nettings to cover wounds to send in platelets cells for repair. The green roses were plant based immune system boosters. Vlad knew this could come in handy in the future and he quickly gathered up the rest of the roses and tied them off in a science bag. He walked over to the cooler he kept his other tests in and pulled the marker from the holder to write the date and time.
He put everything away and he turned back towards Tayonna who was now completely still on the table. He could see the shallow ups and downs of her chest and could tell she was now in a complete sleep. He walked over to check on her arm and saw the cream was in fact working and had already filled in the cracks. It was only a matter of time before her skin would turn back to normal and she would wake up. Happy with his results he turned to Dani and walked over to lay his hand on her shoulder.
“Seems like she’ll make a recovery, it's best we leave her be for now.” He gently squeezed his daughter's shoulder.
“She isn’t like dying or something, right?” Dani asked. Vlad shook his head then looked over his shoulder.
“No it was just an injury of sorts. They are healing so whatever it was only skin deep. When she wakes up I’ll have to ask her what attacked her to make sure we’re not in danger. I highly doubt we are, but just to be sure.” Vlad turned back around then motioned for the stairs. Vlad didn’t want to tell Dani that he didn’t feel like there was a threat. He didn’t want the girl asking even more questions that could potentially lead to him having to tell her about the core issues. It was best to just keep it under wraps. Dani let out a sigh and turned around to walk away, grumbling about how they could have flown. Vlad chuckled as he heard her and shrugged.
Tayonna handed Vladan the rose and the man couldn’t hide the amazed look in his eyes. He knew that flowers could come in many ways and colors, but for them to glow like this was beyond him. Tayonna was truly a master of her craft and Vladan couldn’t help but feel the tug of his heartstrings. It had been two months since he found out her secret and she never failed to amaze him.
“This is what you’ve been giving my brother?” Vladan rolled the rose in his hand then brought it to his nose to smell. He had thought due to its abnormalness it would smell weird, but it didn't, it smelled like any other rose. The girl nodded then backed away from him with her head low. Ever since he had found out she was a witch Vladan had spent every waking moment by her side. He knew it made the girl uncomfortable but he had to make sure she wasn’t trying to do any wrong. He also just had to quench his thirst for the unknown that lurked around. He felt like a child every time he asked her to show him something. Tayonna, always uneasy but not wanting to upset him, would lead him away from any prying eyes and show him the wonders of the unknown. Vladan could still recall the way her fingers lit up in a purple hue and she made sparkles of light float around them. When they finished he would awkwardly say thank you in German and hastily turned back towards the house as if hell was hot on his heels.
“They will heal him for as long as he wishes to be here,” Tayonna asked him but never brought her head up. “They are known as Green Whispers where I’m from and they are used for healing practices.” Vladan hummed and plucked a pedal off the bud and rolled it in his fingers. He felt a small pulse surge through him and he smiled.
“Can anyone grow these?”
“No, only those chosen to be priests.” Vladan’s brow rose in curiosity and he placed the rose back on the table in front of him. He knew nothing about Tayonna other than what his parents told him, which wasn’t much, and the few bits Luther was able to sputter out before falling to sleep. He wanted to know more about her whether it was personal or magic related. He wanted to know if the tales of witches he had heard back across the seas were true to those of different origins. He already debunked the one above all witches being ugly. Tayonna was far from with her hooded eyes and full features. Nor was she a sore to look at with her fuller figure and soft appealing skin. He could agree she was short due to his 6’3 height but that would be unfair to her 5’6. She stopped right below his collar when she stood up straight and it was tempting to pull her in and see how well she fit next to him. Vladan couldn’t excuse himself the more he chose to close the distance between them, he wanted to touch her. Maybe it was the rush of something new or maybe it was that he found her interesting. Since he arrived he couldn’t fathom the thought of a black girl with bright green eyes. Yet, there Tayonna was, tending to his brother, and always outside in the gardens, taking space within his mind for then she should.
“You were supposed to be a priest?” Vladan wasn’t too sure if that was a possible thing a woman could do. Not where he was from was it common to have a woman reach such status. She could become a nun or even a mother of the church, but to hold the title of a priest was few and far between.
“Destined to be until-” Tayonna stopped abruptly when the door to the front of the house opened and Vladan’s mother came in. Vladan quickly snatched the rose off the table and shoved it into his pocket.
“Dearest?” His mother called to him and Vladan stood and bowed his head to greet her. The older woman kissed her son’s cheeks then smoothed his dark hair. Vladan could tell there was something worrying his mother from the way her brows knitted together. She started to correct his clothing and hair like she would do when he was a child when she was anxious. Vladan used to think it was just her way of doting on him before they went to see guests; now he knew that meant something wavered at her nerves. As his mother continued her frantic apparel corrections she looked over at Tayonna who continued to stand as still as she could with her head bowed. “Tayonna there is no need to lower your head, stand with a purpose in a Mægisters’ presents or you will be eaten alive.” The servant took in a harsh breath and raised her head and stood up straight. Vladan couldn’t help himself from staring her on and drinking in the ghostly look in her eyes. “Much better,” The older woman nodded, then patted her son’s chest. Then stepped away to look between them, she saw the way her son looked towards the girl and it made her heart slow in fear. "If you are going to be known for something treacherous, I much rather you stand with pride than cower like the rest of them.” The women’s words weren’t bitter but rather a backhanded compliment of encouragement
“Mother?” Vladan snapped back around to his mother who was already sidestepping him and heading towards a different part of the house. Vladan didn’t go after his mother immediately, he looked back towards Tayonna who gave him nothing for a response then stormed away. “Mother, what are you on about?”
Vlad's fingers found home smoothing out Tayonna’s wild curls as he sighed then quickly pulled away when he realized what he was doing. It had been a couple of hours and Tayonna still hadn’t woken up but her arm was completely back to normal. He had only meant to come down and check on her, take notes of the effects, then leave to go back and enjoy the rest of his day. He had already been to work and quickly came home upon Dani request she not be left alone in the house if Tayonna were to awaken. When he ventured down the pull on his core told him he had to get closer. And when he did the voice inside him said nothing but silently pleaded for Vlad to touch her again. All day he couldn’t stop thinking about how he held her in his arms when he carried her. He wanted to do it again, or at least satisfied the burning in his fingertips that told him to do it again. He only wanted to indulge Vladan’s annoying pleading to make him shut up. However, when Vlad felt how soft her hair was and how peaceful she looked asleep on the table he got lost in a trance of his own.
The only other person whose hair he caressed was Dani’s when she was younger and would have terrible nightmares. He had thought of the countless fantasies he had of caressing Maddie’s hair and how that made him feel. But this was new and a bit refreshing. He couldn’t run his fingers through her hair, it was too coarse and filled with curls that went in every which way. Maybe if he had the chance to brush her hair it would be easier but he highly doubted it.
Vlad knew he should reach out and touch her again, he scolded himself to simply say she was alright and go back upstairs but he was too curious to know. Vlad told himself to make it quick before he felt his mind being taken over again while he reached out to run a thumb over her cheek. He held his breath as he cupped the side of her face and caressed her cheek. She felt so cold against his fiery skin and it felt amazing. Vlad was constantly on fire from the inside and the slight comfort of a cool surface always relaxed him. Tayonna’s skin was smooth but he also enjoyed the feeling of texture in her skin he did find. He was supposed to pull his hand away already but he found himself in a trance fighting with his fantasies of Maddie and the realness of Tayonna. They were so different and he knew nothing about Tayonna like he believed he did of Maddie. Vlad was only able to pull himself out of his trance when he felt Tayonna’s head roll into his hand and nuzzle his palm. He quickly calmed himself as he tried to pull his hand away before she opened her eyes but Tayonna’s hand shot up and held him there.
Tayonna took a deep breath then let out huffs as she continued to find comfort in the hand on her face. It felt so familiar and warm and for a moment she could have sworn she knew who it belonged to. Her eyes slowly fluttered open and it took a bit for her vision to get adjusted due to the change of sensory. She had remembered being outside and now she was in a dimly lit room. When she felt the hand on her cheek trying to escape she closed her eyes and chuckled and pulled it back kissing the palm.
“Where are you going?” Tayonna’s voice was sweet and playful as she smiled and let out a small giggle. Vlad felt his heart skip a beat and his cheeks heat to a faint pink. This wasn’t good and he knew that when she realized whose hand that actually was she wouldn’t be too happy. But Vlad would rather face the music than allow this to go on any further so he cleared his throat and pulled his hand away a bit forcefully. Tayonna's eyes flew open and she shot up from the table and looked around. When her eyes landed on Vlad she looked down at his hand then quickly back up to his eyes. Her eyes widened and she quickly jumped off the table and backed away from him. She gripped her skirt nervously and looked around frantically trying to figure out where she was.
“Please calm down, you were hurt and I brought you to my lab to help you.” Vlad held up his hands and walked towards her. When Tayonna jumped back Vlad quickly halted in his steps cursing himself. Tayonna touched her arm which had been damaged and she looked it over before locking eyes with Vlad again.
“You helped me? Why?” Her words hurt him as she narrowed her eyes, which earned her a tsk and Vlad rolling his eyes.
“A thank you would have been nice considering your method of healing would have taken longer than expected.” Vlad crossed his arms and leaned on one leg. “ You looked terrible curled up in a bed of roses.” Vlad knew that was a lie but it was the best he could come up with trying to save face. Like hell he would tell her he found her charming in her rose bed with stems wrapped around her. Like hell he would tell anyone that for a matter of fact. Tayonna seemed to realize she was being rude and she sighed and turned away from him.
“Thank you.” She muttered.
“You’re welcome, now if you don’t mind telling me what caused all of this that would be wonderful.” Vlad walked towards his work desk and took a seat in his chair. Tayonna once again gripped her dress and thought over what to say before raising her head and standing with a shaky air of confidence.
“I tried to leave.”
“Leave?” Vlad brows knotted and he pointed towards the ghost portal across from him. Tayonna shook her head ‘no’ and slowly raised a finger up towards the ceiling.
“I can’t leave.” Tayonna's voice was broken as it trailed off and Vlad swallowed hard. He felt his mind become split in two for a moment between yelling at him to stop her from ever trying that again and actually being surprised she tried to leave on her own. He wasn’t against her leaving, a matter of fact if she went maybe he would have a clear conscience to actually think. The voice in his head that filled with worry finally shutting up and leaving with her could possibly be a blessing. But when he realized that her trying to leave is what caused the damage he groaned and rubbed the bridge of his nose.
“Is it him that won't allow you to leave?” Vlad asked, waving a hand through the air. Tayonna shrugged her shoulders and Vlad gritted his teeth trying to make sense of this. “I take it this isn’t the first time you’ve tried to leave either, is it.” Tayoona shook her head and Vlad bit his lip and ran his fingers through his hair. He brought a hand to his face and stroked his chin trying to think but nothing could come to mind. While Vlad threw blanks after blank in his head he took notice that Tayonna now ran her fingers over her cheek. She looked so hurt and confused as she ghosted her fingers in the place his hand once were. He wanted to reach out and remove her hand and replace it with his and just hold her but he mentally kept his hand bound to his side.
“You touched me.” Tayonna pulled her hand away from her face.
“Well I didn’t want to but he did.” Vlad felt his cheeks heat up again and he turned to fake a cough.
“No, it was you, you touched me, I felt it was you.” Tayonna lifted a hand to her chest and took a shaky breath then dropped it.
“Miss Tayonna I can assure you the only reason I have touched you in the whole time you’ve been here was due to unwilling subconscious interference. I would much rather keep the distance we have, but this annoying nagging in my head from your ever so...lovely reminder of the past will not leave me alone.” Vlad pointed towards his ears, he wasn’t necessarily lying, half the time he touched her wasn’t his doing. Or if it was it was because Vladan had hinted in a way to calm Tayonna down from spiralling out of control. The last time Vlad was going to weasel himself out with pretty excuses and hope the ghost wouldn’t push for the truth. But he could see in Tayonna’s eyes she already knew the truth and his pretty lies weren’t going to work on her. However, at the same time, her eyes told him she wouldn’t hold it against him. She would pretend to buy his excuse and allow this time to pass.
“Then don’t touch me.” Her words didn’t hold a threat like the other few times she had said it to him. It almost came off like a little tease. Vlad didn't see or feel Tayonna’s skin to know she was blushing. He felt it in his core. Blasted! He had forgotten they were bound and could sense each other. It seemed it only made itself noticeable when emotions were a bit high or like a sick joke when the moment called for it. Vlad would have chuckled and made a flirtatious remark if this had been a different situation and a different person. He might have even played into it and teased the other right back. But this wasn’t that and Vlad was not going to cross any lines that were set by themselves with Tayonna.
“Very well,” was all Vlad could muster as he stood from his chair and hooked his hand behind his back. “I would like to introduce you properly to my daughter. Which you already met on a very sour first impression. But second time’s a charm I suppose, but fair warning, she’s not as excited to see you. So do be on your best behaviour, any harm that comes her way will be dealt with.” Vlad motioned for Tayonna to follow him up through the ceiling and she did.
“Danielle? Please come here, dear.” Vlad yelled throughout the first floor and heard a faint ‘coming’ ranging from the living room. When the youngest phantom flew through the walls she quickly dropped to her feet and gasped. Tayonna stood a few steps behind Vlad and stared right into the girl’s soul. Dani shivered a bit, normally green eyes wouldn’t freak her out, but Tayonna was the strongest exception. Dani felt herself become nervous and quickly shot her hands up to her head as she shook it back and forth.
“She’s doing the mind thing again!” Dani pointed her finger towards Tayonna who almost seemed taken back by the assumption.
“No she isn’t, you’re nervous.” Vlad sighed and placed his hands on his hips.
“How do you know?” Dani shot her father a look but quickly dismissed it when he returned a very fatherly one.
“Because,” because I could feel it if she did. “Because she agreed to not do that to you nor I as long as she stayed here.” Vlad sounded very sure of himself as he stepped to the side and allowed Dani to fully see Tayonna. “Danielle I would like you to meet Tayonna. Tayonna, this is my daughter, Danielle.” Dani gave a quick and nervous ‘hi’ as she took another step back and Tayonna lifted the ends of her skirt to bow. “Danielle, Tayonna will most likely be home with you while I’m away at work during the day. Which means you will have to try and get along with her. But also means that if anything happens you call me straight away or get ahold of Daniel to handle the situation. She has promised to not do anything but we must be sure. For the time being it is for the best of us that we find our common ground within this house and respect them.”
“Yeah, okay…” Dani anxiously started rocking on her heels and Vlad sighed and told her she may go.
“Dinner is in an hour!” Vlad called after the girl then grumbled something about teenagers before smiling. He turned back towards Tayonna, the girl had a small smile of her own and even soft eyes as she watched Dani leave. As the youngest phantom presents were gone, Tayonna's feelings leaked from her to Vlad. She had become unbearably sad.
“Did you two ever have children?” Vlad asked, the curiosity of the cat purred and clawed at his mind.
Tayonna raised a hand to her stomach and her eyes closed and brows fell in a sign of hurt, “We were, they would have been a girl.” Vlad now felt awkward for asking and turned away to hide his embarrassment.
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be, he wasn’t.”

Earth, Wind, and Coffee: Chapter One Analysis
helloooooooo :) welcome to my chapter analyses for my fic Earth, Wind, and Coffee. here, i’m just going to be breaking down my writing process, choices, and fun stuff, among other stuff as well. you can read this after you’ve finished the first chapter (i’ve excluded spoilers!) or you could read all 45k words and then come back to these one by one. either way, i’m v excited to be doing this so i hope you guys like it too. lets begin with chapter one, shall we :)
some fun stuff before we start!
every chapter title is modeled after the fic title!
you may have noticed that there are two center line dividers in the chapter(and every chapter after), meaning there are three sections to a chapter. going off of this, i thought it might be cool to title each chapter based on the sections, either of its main topic or my favorite part of it. so, chapter one’s first section is korrasami meeting (hence, Meetings), section two is where i introduced Artist!Korra, and i really love Artist!Korra so naturally i had to name the chapter about her (and the thing that brings korrasami closer, Sketches), and the third section is where their friendship is solidified (i think i achieved this by giving their numbers to each other, but i also just thought it was a cute scene, Phone Number Exchanges) and now we put it all together and get: Meetings (Earth), Sketches (Wind), and Phone Number Exchanges (and Coffee) (pretty cool right??? *wink wink*) the same formula is used to title every chapter afterwards. i usually suck at chapter titles but i thought this was a super cute thing to do and it ended up working fairly naturally :)
i started this fic on sept 23, 2020. chapter one didn’t get posted until oct 15, 2020
so basically, i sat with this first chapter for almost a month before posting (which actually was a good thing, i’ll tell you why later!) i really wanted this first chapter to stand out and be lowkey perfect, so i kept writing and rewriting and rewriting my rewrites. then you know, i’d start reading and then edit and then edit the edits; it’s a vicious cycle but one that i’m used to. i finally decided to post the fic when i read the first chapter through and thought “yep, this is it”
i was inspired by the fic it’s such a gorgeous sight to see you in the middle of the night by softshocks
mostly for the idea of having a full-length fic in only three chapters. buuut, that was also one of the first korrasami fics i read after finishing lok on netflix and i remember thinking “damn, now THIS is how you do an au” character progression in the story is great and not once during the fic did i feel bored or in a lull. i really wanted to do the same with my fic and tried my best
now, lets get into the chapter itself.
sentence structure:
i used sentence structure to (hopefully) show that something is off with korra. we don’t know what yet, asami chalks it up to working through the night, but just like the summary states, there’s more going on here with our new favorite barista, it’s just a matter of what. even with this being in asami’s pov, i wanted to show a sort of disconnect between her and korra. let me show you an example
“Asami smiles warmly, excited to try the drink. She thanks Korra and watches as the girl nods lightly and walks back over to the counter. She begins cleaning the espresso machine. Asami takes a sip from the mug, lightly moaning from the taste. She feels Korra’s eyes peer up at her for a moment. Their eyes meet and Asami blushes, putting the mug and her head down. She opens the binder on the right side, pulling out the pen tucked into the inside cover. She thumbs through to the next clean page and begins squinting at her sloppy notes, rewriting them neatly once they’re deciphered.“
i’ve italicized sentences that, even while in asami’s pov, describe korra’s actions. in comparison to the sentences around it, the two italicized sentences are rather plain and simple. they’re very subject-predicate - “She (subject) begins cleaning the espresso machine (predicate)” you have your noun/subject and verb/predicate, give or take some words for proper english and action. asami’s sentences are more complex. colored in red is what i’ve donned as my classic form of writing, which basically takes two sentences - “She opens the binder on the right side. She pulls out the pen tucked into the inside cover.” and smushes them together by keeping the first sentence as is and taking away the subject of the second sentence and tacking on an -ing to its verb. i’m not sure how writing sentences like this started but i feel like i always come back to it because it gives sentences just that lil bit of edge. the sentences are not super simple but they’re also not super hard to understand. it’s a nice balance of simplicity and complexity, in my opinion.
now in bold is the combination of korra’s - “Their eyes meet and Asami blushes.” and asami’s - “Asami blushes, putting the mug and her head down” sentence forms. it’s a nice little indication that even with this disconnect from korra, these two girls are going to come together and make magic.
this play with sentence structure pretty much continues throughout the rest of the chapter, have fun finding them :))
next on my list is what i brought up earlier! i saved this lil first chapter in my back pocket for almost a month and you know what, it was a really good thing i did. for one thing, asami’s original “tormentor” we’ll call him, was going to be tahno. the same idea of this character being a soccer player was kept but i changed the character from tahno to iroh for a number of reasons:
1) iroh’s connections to the fire nation throne were a biiiig thing in me deciding to change him.
i loved iroh ii in lok, i thought he was super cool, but we needed someone in this story to be an obstacle for asami to face. we already have her dad hiroshi, and some of you may be thinking “isn’t that already enough??” and for a while i thought so too, but we needed a vehicle to show how hiroshi is an obstacle asami is facing. and i decided to do that with iroh.
2) i really wanted said character to be a conceded jerk and who better than a well known heir to a nation’s throne? (it really went to his head)
tahno was really already a jerk and pretty ruthless character in lok, which is why he came to mind first. and i’d had him only be a soccer star but that was cause for explaining how he and hiroshi have connections. i was struggling for a bit of how to tie the two together but ultimately realized, “hey hiroshi is a business man, he’s bound to do business in the fire nation. and iroh is from the fire nation, he’s prince! he could be a key factor in pulling strings to get more business there” and so that is why i changed tahno to iroh
3) it doesn’t stop there though! at first, iroh was only son of the firelord and soccer star mvp. he was in asami’s stats class but that was it. i realized he needed a bigger role to have connections with hiroshi, which is why he’s now a business major too
this reason is why it’s great i waited!! had i been an eager beaver and posted whatever the first draft of the chapter was, i would’ve been facing some challenges later on, so thanks past me for giving future me some help! this was the perfect way for iroh to be a conceded dick who’s in asami’s life even tho she doesn’t want him to be. i added on the bit about him joining future industries in section two of the chapter and was suuuper glad i figured it out because it helped me envision the rest of the story.
honorable mentions:
korra was going to be wearing a tee shirt when korrasami met but i changed this 1) so asami could leave up ✨korra’s muscles✨ to her imagination and 2) because gloves are a regularly used trope that someone has something to hide. i couldn’t really find a way to give korra gloves but i thought the next best thing would be covering up, so now she wears a sweater.
i googled different types of coffee. The Avatar is a latte macchiato, it’s a play on an espresso macchiato. espresso is added to milk rather than milk to espresso and features more foam than hot milk. i used this one cause i’ve always enjoyed seeing foam art and thought making aang’s classic arrow in foam would be cool. Aang’s Special is a play on his favorite treat, egg tarts. this one is a vietnamese drink and is exactly as i describe in the fic.
earth, wind, and coffee is very much a pun. one so many different levels though: earth, wind, and fire, esteemed multi-genre singing group, known for songs like september and fantasy. earth, wind (air), and fire are elements that are bended in the atla universe and while this isn’t a bending au, it’s still pretty cool. and now earth, wind, and coffee, it’s a coffee shop au. i mean come on, so many layers, i love myself for creating it but hate myself for how much i love myself for creating it.
anything i would’ve wanted to change?
honestly, no. i think because i’d already did all of the changes before publishing, but also cause any time i read through the first chapter, i just feel satisfied. i achieved all of my goals in that first chapter about setting up what would happen and it’s also just a good read.
have any questions? let me know! wanna comment your favorite things from chapter one? do it !! interact with me !! i demand it.
thanks for reading, i really liked doing this :)) (even tho more than once my writing for this got deleted and it was big sad because i’d gotten a good portion done but whatever we’re still here)
